- 0:06SPEAKER_00: We've become so addicted to instant results.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: We expect our business to explode in three months.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: We want our investments to double overnight.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Everything meaningful in life just it grows slowly.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: The difference wasn't the task, it was in the vision.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Purpose changes ordinary work into meaningful work.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: So my challenge to you, stop asking, how fast can I get there?
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Start asking, what am I building?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Because when you know you're building a cathedral, laying one stone today doesn't feel so insignificant.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: It feels like central.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go if you're tired of not feeling fit, tired of just not having a focus, tired of just not having the light that you deserve.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: This is the place to be.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I'm Jason Your City today.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about the cathedral builders.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Imagine at one point in time, you were given the opportunity to build the most fascinating building the world has ever seen.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Just truly transcendent debt, beyond what the mind can imagine that you were given that opportunity that you became the one to build it.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: But there's just one thing.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: As part of this process, you would never ever get to see it finished.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Would you still show up to work tomorrow or just even start this process?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: You know, this this question's fascinating to me for years because for hundreds of years, that's exactly what's happened across Europe.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: You know, many of these cathedrals that we admire today, they weren't built in five years, I mean, or even ten.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, some of these took decades, centuries, hundreds of years to be built.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Think about this.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: You know, a stonemason could spend just forty years or more carving pillars, arches, and walls, knowing full well that what he was working on, he will never get to see finished.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: And maybe even his grandchildren could never even fully admire the full scope of the work that was invested.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: He laid stones for a future that he would never experience.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Today, we've become so addicted to instant results.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: We expect our business to explode in three months.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: We want our investments to double overnight.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: We go to work out and we can understand why we don't have six-pack abs in six months.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: We uh want our marriages to just be perfect, right?
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: That they thrive without actually uh ever putting in the intentional work.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Everything.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: It's become about speed, right?
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: AI today.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: We were not even thinking anymore because we're using AI to predict our thoughts or just uh put out our emails, right?
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And to to forecast all our results.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Everything meaningful in life, just it grows slowly.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: You know, there's this old story where a there was these three stone cutters and a traveler came up to the first one and said, What are you doing?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Then he replied, I'm cutting rocks.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: The traveler then went to the second one.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Well, what are you doing?
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And that second one said, I'm earning a living.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Finally, he asked the third one, and that man smiled and said, I'm building a cathedral.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: You know, all three of these men were doing the exact same thing, uh, the same work, just the difference wasn't a task, it was in the vision.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: That's true in our lives.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: You know, what one person, they see someone that is making a sales call, another sees it as a work in workout, another sees it as a bedtime story for their children.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: But someone else understands is that I'm building trust, I'm building discipline, I'm building a family, I'm building legacy.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Purpose changes ordinary work into meaningful work.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And history just it gives us incredible examples of this.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: The builders of the Great Wall of China didn't complete it in a single generation.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: It evolved over centuries throughout dynasties.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: You know, generation after generation, added another section, it just hundreds and hundreds of miles.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: And they understood that something we forgot.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Great things, they're not inherited.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: They're rarely created overnight, and the same truth is of our business, our family, our faith, our character.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: These aren't built-in moments.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: They're built throughout thousands of faithful days.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: You know, I think about my own life.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: I uh people might see investments into apartment communities, into my businesses, into the these podcast episodes and investments, but that's not really what I'm looking at building.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to build men and women who who think differently.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to build a family who knows integrity matters.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to build a reputation that my kids can be proud of long after I'm gone.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: You know, one of the greatest things I can do today is to invest in my kids that in the future, when they're poised to make decisions in challenging times that I prepared them, that they can have the thought process to look at that challenge and make a clear choice of how to proceed.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Things don't happen because of just one speed or a speech, one deal, or a podcast.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: They happen because you choose to consistently do them over decades.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: And the danger in our culture, I mean social media, it's convinced us that everyone else's cathedral was built overnight.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, look at this person.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: They've done so well, right?
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Look at this other person.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Man, well, look at what they have, right?
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: That they've all had this.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: And you don't see the 20 years of invisible mournings.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: You see this championship, not the empty gym.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: You see the business, not the years of rejection, the pushback, the failures.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: You see a marriage, not of the investment, of the conversation, of the time spent to be a great couple together.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: You're comparing your foundation to someone else's rooftop.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Don't do that.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, the Bible says in Galatians, let us not grow wary in doing good.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: For all the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Notice it doesn't immediately say, it says a proper time, not right away.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: The harvest has a schedule.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Your job is simply to keep planning.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: So my challenge to you, stop asking, how fast can I get there?
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: And start asking, what am I building?
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Because when you know you're building a cathedral, laying one stone today doesn't feel so insignificant.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: It feels essential.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: That workout today, it matters.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: That meeting has to happen.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: The prayers, daily.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Bedtime stories, the hard conversations, every stone matters.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: One day, someone else may stand inside the life that you've built and never realize how many quiet days it took to get there.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: But that's okay.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: That's okay because the cathedral builders never needed applause.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: They simply knew that what they were doing, the work mattered.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: So remember, you may not control how quickly your cathedral rises, but you absolutely control whether or not you lay another stone today.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: All right, that's what I have for you today.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: This is the Living Windows Podcast.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: I'm Jason Russi.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Let's do this.
