- 0:00Speaker 1: Now it's Labor Day. That's the unofficial end of the summer.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Now that it's football season, gentlemen, what is your favorite
- 0:08Speaker 1: part of football season?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Fall? I love the fall end of summer. Same answer.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Welcome into jags Am presented by car Shield or here
- 0:35Speaker 1: in Hyundai Studios, our new studios. This is going to
- 0:37Speaker 1: be our new home from now on for jags Am.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So we're really excited to kick off the season here
- 0:41Speaker 1: and get to talk a little bit of football. Finally, guys,
- 0:44Speaker 1: I know I don't know what fall actually means. The
- 0:46Speaker 1: terms weather wisier, but I am excited.
- 0:49Speaker 2: For football to start.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Fall shows up about November okay here, which is great.
- 0:52Speaker 3: You get that little kool breeze in the morning, but
- 0:56Speaker 3: you've got two months of summer still, which is what
- 0:59Speaker 3: Southern football fans like because it's an advantage for them
- 1:01Speaker 3: when teams come down from the norths.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, once October hits, it's not quite as bad.
- 1:05Speaker 4: You'll get a little more fall. And answered up your question.
- 1:09Speaker 4: I had a hard time answering a football season fall
- 1:13Speaker 4: except for when you were a kid and it meant
- 1:15Speaker 4: the start of school.
- 1:16Speaker 2: What's bad about it?
- 1:18Speaker 1: It's the best time of year.
- 1:20Speaker 4: To me, it's always been the default best season, maybe
- 1:24Speaker 4: because probably because it's football season.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Well, and you know it starts on Friday morning around here.
- 1:27Speaker 3: There's a really intense vibe all the way through, and
- 1:30Speaker 3: Friday morning seems to have a little different feel and
- 1:33Speaker 3: NFL Friday, and then it continues through high school football,
- 1:36Speaker 3: right because I've got one playing and people who love
- 1:38Speaker 3: high school football, and then Saturday you've got college, and
- 1:41Speaker 3: then Sunday you got It's three days of this feeling
- 1:43Speaker 3: of football that makes it so much fun.
- 1:45Speaker 1: It's certainly a turn in the calendar. And we love
- 1:47Speaker 1: it of course here because now we get to finally
- 1:49Speaker 1: talk about some actual football games. Are we're gonna start
- 1:52Speaker 1: with our big things for our first week of the
- 1:54Speaker 1: regular season. So the first thing that is our big
- 1:57Speaker 1: thing is the Hunted. Now that they won division, they've
- 2:01Speaker 1: proven themselves to a certain degree by the way they
- 2:03Speaker 1: finished last season, jack Wards are gonna be hunted this year.
- 2:06Speaker 1: They're not sneaking up on anybody, So, Brian, when you
- 2:08Speaker 1: look at the team this year in terms of expectations,
- 2:11Speaker 1: or not necessarily that, but just when they go out
- 2:13Speaker 1: and face these games and their opponents are ready for them.
- 2:16Speaker 1: What's the difference when you face teams that way.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Well, there's two guys in particular that I'm looking for, right,
- 2:20Speaker 3: because last year this team was all about that upstart
- 2:23Speaker 3: energy and you know, they were all new and together.
- 2:27Speaker 3: But this year, Brandon Scherff on the offensive line and
- 2:30Speaker 3: Roy Robertson Harris on the defensive line to me, epitomize
- 2:33Speaker 3: what you're looking for, which is that mentality of I'm
- 2:35Speaker 3: a badass, You're gonna line up against me and I'm
- 2:38Speaker 3: gonna win, right, And that's the mentality whether you're playing
- 2:41Speaker 3: the Chiefs in Week two or whether you're playing the
- 2:43Speaker 3: Ravens or Bengals, you know, on prime time in Jacksonville,
- 2:47Speaker 3: you've got to have that mentality when you line up
- 2:49Speaker 3: that you were equal to them. And those two guys
- 2:51Speaker 3: sort of personify that because no matter who they line
- 2:53Speaker 3: up against, their equal to the task.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm gonna go a little bit of a different direction,
- 2:58Speaker 4: and I get that they're the Hut, but my senses
- 3:02Speaker 4: that there's still a little bit of a thought around
- 3:05Speaker 4: the league of are.
- 3:07Speaker 2: They for real yet?
- 3:08Speaker 4: And talking to my friend Mike Chapl who's covered.
- 3:11Speaker 2: The Colts for forty years.
- 3:14Speaker 4: When he was listing off the top of the Colts schedule,
- 3:18Speaker 4: he mentioned Jacksonville, but then as a whole, he said
- 3:21Speaker 4: the schedule, if the Colts are okay, they can get
- 3:24Speaker 4: through it.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Jackson in Jacksonville sort of still had to prove itself.
- 3:28Speaker 4: They went nine and eight, and I think they'll be hunted,
- 3:31Speaker 4: but there's still a feeling on this team, and I
- 3:33Speaker 4: think it's what'll protect them from feeling hunted. They went
- 3:36Speaker 4: nine and eight last year. Guys, they were one game
- 3:39Speaker 4: from not being in the playoffs. They still have to
- 3:41Speaker 4: prove themselves and I think that'll work to their advantage.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Sure, but I do think when you pick up an
- 3:45Speaker 3: article right the Athletic this morning has the top twenty
- 3:47Speaker 3: three most intriguing players, and you've got two of them
- 3:50Speaker 3: on there, and the quarterback happened to be listed very highly.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Calvin Ridley's there as well. I get that they went
- 3:55Speaker 3: nine to eight last year, but no one's going to
- 3:57Speaker 3: overlook them like some teams probably do. I mean Dallas
- 4:00Speaker 3: in here last year, they were not thinking they were
- 4:02Speaker 3: going to have a fight on their hands. They thought
- 4:04Speaker 3: they put up thirty five points, they'd put a little
- 4:06Speaker 3: pressure with their top rated defense on Trevor and everything
- 4:09Speaker 3: would collapse. So I do get it, John, I mean
- 4:12Speaker 3: nine to eight is not world beaters. You haven't won
- 4:14Speaker 3: a trophy yet. But this team has enough traction. It's
- 4:18Speaker 3: probably the best word kind to describe it.
- 4:20Speaker 2: It's got enough.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Traction in the media and thus in the football world
- 4:25Speaker 3: to make people stand up and take notice of them.
- 4:27Speaker 1: We cover this team every day, so obviously we have
- 4:29Speaker 1: high expectations. That's our second big thing, just from what
- 4:33Speaker 1: we've seen. If everyone stays healthy and they, you know,
- 4:37Speaker 1: accomplish what we think they can accomplish. What are realistic
- 4:40Speaker 1: expectations for this team this year? John, I want to
- 4:43Speaker 1: start with you, what's the ceiling for them? If they
- 4:45Speaker 1: play to their highest capability.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Well, if the offense is what it looked like in
- 4:51Speaker 4: the first quarter of the third preseason game, which to
- 4:56Speaker 4: me felt like an offense that was flexing its muscles,
- 4:58Speaker 4: and you know, it was almost like at started the
- 5:02Speaker 4: Kentucky Derby when the horses are kicking.
- 5:04Speaker 2: At the gate to get out.
- 5:06Speaker 4: It felt like that if this offense is that high powered,
- 5:09Speaker 4: if it's top three, then I think AFC Championship Game
- 5:13Speaker 4: two or three seed, and you're in that group. I
- 5:17Speaker 4: think of the Bills and the Bengals and the Chiefs
- 5:19Speaker 4: as sort of the group in the AFC. If they're
- 5:23Speaker 4: what we think they could be offensively, then they're in
- 5:26Speaker 4: that group.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I don't know how you tell the difference in that
- 5:28Speaker 2: group right now.
- 5:29Speaker 4: I don't know that I can put them with Patrick
- 5:31Speaker 4: Mahomes and Burrow and Josh Allen on those teams. I
- 5:34Speaker 4: can't see the Jags being above that group automatically going
- 5:37Speaker 4: to the playoffs, but they should be in it.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I would think they're in it. You know, last year
- 5:41Speaker 3: the Jaguars had that five game streak where they were
- 5:44Speaker 3: losing games by a field goal or a touchdown at
- 5:46Speaker 3: the end of the ball game when they gave up
- 5:48Speaker 3: the lead in the final two minutes. So I asked
- 5:50Speaker 3: the head coach after the season, did you think nine
- 5:52Speaker 3: wins was achievable? And I'm not gonna tell you the
- 5:55Speaker 3: number he told me, but he thought more than nine
- 5:58Speaker 3: wins was achievable last year. So with an improved roster
- 6:01Speaker 3: this year, with a quarterback who's got another year in
- 6:04Speaker 3: the system, you know, eleven twelve wins seems to be
- 6:08Speaker 3: something that you can look at now, you got to
- 6:10Speaker 3: stay healthy, and they stayed healthy last year. I'm with
- 6:13Speaker 3: John And when you look at the best teams, you
- 6:15Speaker 3: look at those three teams that he mentioned, and you
- 6:17Speaker 3: throw the Eagles in the in the NFC, and you know,
- 6:20Speaker 3: maybe San Francisco out there as well. But you know,
- 6:23Speaker 3: I think the Jaguars are in that next group of
- 6:25Speaker 3: teams that if they have a good year and if
- 6:27Speaker 3: the quarterback takes the step the next year, we're talking
- 6:29Speaker 3: about them in in this way.
- 6:31Speaker 1: And it's nice to be at a point where you
- 6:33Speaker 1: could maybe say super Bowl and it's not completely out
- 6:36Speaker 1: of the realm of possibility, because certainly, if you're talking
- 6:38Speaker 1: AFC Championship game, anything can happen at that point. And
- 6:41Speaker 1: while we like to make fun of some of those
- 6:42Speaker 1: lists where Trevor Lawrence doesn't get as much credit as
- 6:44Speaker 1: we think he is due, they have been giving him
- 6:46Speaker 1: some praise nationally at least the last couple of months.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I feel like people have taken notice and people do
- 6:51Speaker 1: expect that jump from him this year, as we do
- 6:54Speaker 1: as he hits the field, and hopefully we see that
- 6:56Speaker 1: in Week one against the Colts on the road, our
- 6:59Speaker 1: final big thing this week is our new digs because
- 7:01Speaker 1: we want to show you show off our new studio.
- 7:03Speaker 1: We finally we're in the Miller Electric Center. We have
- 7:05Speaker 1: our new home out here. John's a little upset we
- 7:07Speaker 1: didn't let them wear shorts and flip flops today.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I'm not a flip flop guy.
- 7:10Speaker 4: But I do have socks because Dave, you can't just
- 7:13Speaker 4: told me towhere socks all right?
- 7:15Speaker 3: And I like my seat here because I may or
- 7:18Speaker 3: mind I have socks on.
- 7:19Speaker 1: We'll never know. Anyway. We love our new studio. We
- 7:22Speaker 1: got a lot of new technology in here. We're gonna
- 7:24Speaker 1: be doing film room, touchscreen, a lot of fun stuff
- 7:26Speaker 1: we can bring to you here with our new resources.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So we love our new digs and just want to
- 7:30Speaker 1: show them off a little bit. Stay with us. Coming up,
- 7:32Speaker 1: we're gonna go over the AFC South, what we have
- 7:35Speaker 1: going on in the division and what you can expect
- 7:37Speaker 1: there coming out later on jags Am presented by Carshield.

- 8:03Speaker 1: we're back here. We're going to talk a little bit
- 8:05Speaker 1: about the AFC South because while the Jaguars won the
- 8:09Speaker 1: division last year, there are high expectations and what are
- 8:11Speaker 1: they facing off, what are they looking at across the
- 8:13Speaker 1: rest of the division. We'll start off with the Colts
- 8:15Speaker 1: because that's who they're playing first, and not a great
- 8:19Speaker 1: year last year, they're definitely in rebuild mode. We look
- 8:21Speaker 1: at their new head coach there, of John What stands
- 8:24Speaker 1: out to you as the biggest change for them this year?
- 8:27Speaker 2: Well, I think everything you know.
- 8:29Speaker 4: It's again I spoke with Mike Chappell, who's been around
- 8:33Speaker 4: that team for forty years. Not having Jonathan Taylor in
- 8:38Speaker 4: this league right now, a running back typically isn't seen
- 8:45Speaker 4: as the Bellweather at most franchises.
- 8:48Speaker 2: He's the guy at that franchise.
- 8:50Speaker 4: As recently as two or three months ago, they were
- 8:53Speaker 4: talking about needing him on the field to compliment Anthony
- 8:56Speaker 4: richardson that with that sort of dynamic, and now all
- 8:59Speaker 4: of a sudden and they don't have that they're going
- 9:02Speaker 4: into the season with a rookie quarterback. I expect them
- 9:05Speaker 4: to challenge the Jaguars on Sunday, because Week one can
- 9:07Speaker 4: be weird. I don't expect them to be consistent enough
- 9:10Speaker 4: all through the season to contend anything close to the
- 9:13Speaker 4: division title.
- 9:14Speaker 2: But it's a franchise.
- 9:19Speaker 4: That oddly seemed very very close until by midway through
- 9:23Speaker 4: last season, and then all of a sudden they sort
- 9:25Speaker 4: of fell off the map, and now they feel like
- 9:28Speaker 4: it's sort of in shambles a little bit, and they're
- 9:30Speaker 4: trying to put it back together.
- 9:32Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be a long year for them.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Oh it's gonna be a really long year for them.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Maybe they win five games this year. But to me,
- 9:38Speaker 3: the biggest issue is that they are completely retooling John
- 9:41Speaker 3: the way that they played football. This was always a
- 9:44Speaker 3: team that was built on the passing game with Peyton
- 9:46Speaker 3: and Andrew Luck and of course you know they tried
- 9:48Speaker 3: with Philip Rivers through Matt Ryan, and they never got
- 9:50Speaker 3: it the way that they wanted to get it. Well,
- 9:52Speaker 3: now you're radically overhauling because you're going to that Philadelphia
- 9:55Speaker 3: style that was so effective with Jalen Hurts in that
- 9:58Speaker 3: running game, and of course they had that number one receiver,
- 10:01Speaker 3: that guy that they brought in they traded for aj
- 10:07Speaker 3: from the Titans, and it opened everything up. Well, I
- 10:10Speaker 3: don't see them having that over the top receiver. They've
- 10:12Speaker 3: got a quarterback who never really threw much in college
- 10:15Speaker 3: and now he's coming into the NFL. What he does,
- 10:18Speaker 3: I mean, he does really, really well. It's just not
- 10:20Speaker 3: a very big body of work. So I think this
- 10:24Speaker 3: is a team in transition this year, and it's probably
- 10:27Speaker 3: two maybe three years away in terms of being completely
- 10:30Speaker 3: effective like the Eagles system is.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I think they're dangerous because this kid once a
- 10:38Speaker 4: half can do something like this.
- 10:39Speaker 3: You can keep it close for sure.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Can he do it enough in pressure situations you would think,
- 10:44Speaker 4: not being a rookie quarterback.
- 10:45Speaker 3: One other thing to note on them is that, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 3: last year, their offensive line, which I think we would
- 10:49Speaker 3: all agree was one of the best in the NFL
- 10:51Speaker 3: for a number of years, it really fell off sharply.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I mean, even Quentin Nelson, they're all pro left guard,
- 10:57Speaker 3: fell off sharply. They've dropped did a young tackle. They're
- 11:01Speaker 3: excited about him, Ryan Kelly in the middle of that
- 11:04Speaker 3: offensive line, when he's playing well, is one of the
- 11:06Speaker 3: best centers in football. They could see more success running
- 11:10Speaker 3: the ball if that offensive line is what it was
- 11:13Speaker 3: in twenty twenty twenty twenty one as opposed to what
- 11:16Speaker 3: it was in twenty twenty two.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I know we mentioned that. Obviously, Jonathan Taylor is the
- 11:20Speaker 1: big story of him not being there. It's gonna affect
- 11:22Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson a lot because when you don't have that
- 11:24Speaker 1: safety valve of a very talented running back to help
- 11:27Speaker 1: distract a little bit of the attention, all the focus
- 11:30Speaker 1: is going to be on the rookie QB. So definitely
- 11:31Speaker 1: could be a long year. Now we're gonna look at
- 11:33Speaker 1: Houston because they've had a lot of change as well.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But I feel like the upside for them is huge, right,
- 11:37Speaker 1: There's a lot more positive, you know things coming out
- 11:40Speaker 1: of that camp. Everybody loves Jamiko. Ryan's over there. Obviously,
- 11:43Speaker 1: they're enamored with CJ. Stroud what they think he can be,
- 11:46Speaker 1: and I feel like the vibe Brian is different for them.
- 11:50Speaker 1: They were in a not great place. I think it's
- 11:53Speaker 1: a little bit wells.
- 11:54Speaker 3: You the one thing that they did, John was they
- 11:55Speaker 3: went out and they spent a ton of money, kind
- 11:58Speaker 3: of like the Draguars did, but on mid level guys,
- 12:01Speaker 3: just guys that would allow them to line up and compete.
- 12:04Speaker 3: They still lack that explosiveness down the field that Brandon
- 12:08Speaker 3: Cooks gave them. The young running back from Florida last
- 12:12Speaker 3: year who had what four or five hundred yard games,
- 12:15Speaker 3: is a guy that I think they have a lot
- 12:17Speaker 3: of upside for. It's just you've got a rookie quarterback
- 12:19Speaker 3: and a defensive minded head coach who doesn't have the
- 12:22Speaker 3: players that he had in San Francisco. Here's the one
- 12:26Speaker 3: thing they do have. They have lots of draft capital
- 12:28Speaker 3: and lots of cap room. So if Stroud can play,
- 12:31Speaker 3: they can turn this thing around quickly. Because unlike Richardson,
- 12:33Speaker 3: he threw the ball all over the field at Ohio State.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Remember all the great receivers that he had in Columbus.
- 12:39Speaker 3: So if they can get that defense going and find
- 12:41Speaker 3: a couple of guys in free agency in the draft,
- 12:43Speaker 3: it shouldn't take them long.
- 12:46Speaker 4: It's interesting this division right now has two teams in
- 12:49Speaker 4: very similar spots. When you've sort of torn it down
- 12:53Speaker 4: and now you have rookie quarterbacks who are going to start.
- 12:58Speaker 4: I think the phrase you would use is both of
- 13:01Speaker 4: these franchises. Probably with the Colts for years obviously they
- 13:04Speaker 4: were sort of piece me on the quarterback position, trying
- 13:07Speaker 4: to get there that year.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Well, now they.
- 13:09Speaker 4: At least have hope for the future. If this kid's okay,
- 13:12Speaker 4: then you've got a Trevor Lawrence situation, you know, or
- 13:16Speaker 4: a Josh Allen situation, any of those guys.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Same story with the Texans. So you would think.
- 13:21Speaker 4: The Jaguars have a little window Jaguars and Titans, I
- 13:24Speaker 4: would where they're gonna be the two teams in the division.
- 13:28Speaker 4: That window doesn't all always last this time last year,
- 13:32Speaker 4: teams thought they had a long window waiting for the
- 13:34Speaker 4: Jaguars and then a sudden Jaguars took it.
- 13:35Speaker 2: So it's not.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Guaranteed, but those two situations should give the Jaguars and
- 13:40Speaker 4: Titans a window where it's just each other well.
- 13:42Speaker 3: And both of those franchises are willing to be patient,
- 13:45Speaker 3: right because both of them weren't in recent years. Now
- 13:49Speaker 3: they're all in on the rebuild and they understand that
- 13:51Speaker 3: sometimes in the NFL, being patient and accepting where you
- 13:55Speaker 3: are puts you in a position to improve dramatically. In
- 13:57Speaker 3: the draft, right if you're picking in the top ten
- 14:00Speaker 3: of the draft. The next two years, these two teams
- 14:02Speaker 3: have a chance to really restock.
- 14:03Speaker 4: And it'll be interesting to see how patient the Colt
- 14:06Speaker 4: Stata because since.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Jim's been the owner there, they have not had to
- 14:09Speaker 2: be patient.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Yeah, they got Peyton and the next year they were good.
- 14:13Speaker 4: They got Andrew Luck, the next year they were good.
- 14:15Speaker 4: He's not that known to be patient, so be It'll
- 14:18Speaker 4: be interesting to see how they play that out. I
- 14:19Speaker 4: think the Texans will be patient.
- 14:20Speaker 3: But that's such a huge decision to take Anthony richardson
- 14:23Speaker 3: because we all know what we do, especially because we
- 14:26Speaker 3: saw him in games. But we all know that he's
- 14:28Speaker 3: gonna take time. He is a legitimate project. Peyton wasn't
- 14:31Speaker 3: that much of a project, and neither was Andrew Luck.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So you just wonder if you're making that institutional decision
- 14:37Speaker 3: if the owner doesn't know that he has to be
- 14:38Speaker 3: but you know him better than.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Most And as we have seen here, once you have
- 14:42Speaker 1: the quarterback or what you think will be the future
- 14:44Speaker 1: of your franchise, you can rebuild around them very quickly,
- 14:47Speaker 1: as we've seen the Jaguars do in the last two seasons.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Doug Peterson, All right, let's check out the Titans because
- 14:52Speaker 1: that's gonna be the real threat within the division. Obviously,
- 14:54Speaker 1: so they were seven and ten last year, they did
- 14:56Speaker 1: not finish very well. Jaguars finished very well and ended
- 14:59Speaker 1: up winning the division. Mike Rable's been around for this
- 15:01Speaker 1: will be his sixth season, so he's had tons of
- 15:04Speaker 1: success since he's been there. DeAndre Hopkins is added to
- 15:08Speaker 1: that offense. Ryan Tannehill, Derrick Henry is amazing as always. Uh,
- 15:14Speaker 1: what is it gonna be for them? Is it just
- 15:15Speaker 1: staying healthy?
- 15:17Speaker 2: John?
- 15:17Speaker 1: What are you looking at in terms of them being successful?
- 15:20Speaker 4: Well, I think they're dangerous because they know exactly what
- 15:25Speaker 4: they are and who they want to be, and they
- 15:28Speaker 4: know how Mike Rabel wants them to play. So when
- 15:31Speaker 4: you have that and you've got some experienced guys, meaning
- 15:34Speaker 4: you have Derrick Henry that you know that that's your guy.
- 15:40Speaker 4: I anticipate the last three weeks of the season, the
- 15:43Speaker 4: Jaguars and Titans will be close enough to each other
- 15:45Speaker 4: with this team's.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Gonna be a factor.
- 15:47Speaker 4: There's a lot of fans and a lot of Jaguars
- 15:50Speaker 4: fans saw the Titans lose what's seven in a row
- 15:52Speaker 4: at the end of last year and think, well, the
- 15:54Speaker 4: JAG's gonna run away for the division. I don't think
- 15:56Speaker 4: they're running away from the Titans. I think this team
- 15:58Speaker 4: knows how to play to what it is, and I
- 16:00Speaker 4: think they're dangerous. I think those I think the two
- 16:02Speaker 4: teams will split this year and it's gonna be interesting
- 16:06Speaker 4: going into the second half the season.
- 16:07Speaker 3: I'm not as high on them because I think they
- 16:10Speaker 3: realized they're at the end of the run. Tannehill and
- 16:13Speaker 3: Henry are both still there. DeAndre Hopkins feels to me
- 16:17Speaker 3: like that receiver you know, everyone grabs one. We grab
- 16:20Speaker 3: Tory Holt here in the you know, two thousand and
- 16:22Speaker 3: eight and bring him in. Oh, we've got Tory hold
- 16:24Speaker 3: here we go. Right, it's gonna change everything. Their offensive
- 16:28Speaker 3: line is being entirely rebuilt. You saw they brought in
- 16:30Speaker 3: Andre Dillard, who was a bust in Philadelphia. Their defense
- 16:34Speaker 3: is very talented. That was their downfall last year. All
- 16:37Speaker 3: those guys got hurt and the offense couldn't score enough
- 16:40Speaker 3: points to overcome a defense that couldn't keep other teams
- 16:42Speaker 3: out of the end zone. But I just they feel
- 16:45Speaker 3: like a team to me, that's holding on and it's
- 16:48Speaker 3: because of Tannehill and because of Derrick Henry. And you
- 16:51Speaker 3: know Derrick Henry at some moment he's just and it
- 16:54Speaker 3: may even be now he's not the same Derrick Henry
- 16:57Speaker 3: right where he can just take over a game and
- 16:59Speaker 3: just run the roost. Maybe maybe I'm wrong. It just
- 17:03Speaker 3: seems to me like this is a team. I do
- 17:06Speaker 3: think that they are going to be dangerous, but I
- 17:08Speaker 3: am not as convinced. Here's what I do like about them.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I think Mike Vrabel is a tremendous coach. You saw
- 17:15Speaker 3: his record fifty and thirty seven, and he's got a
- 17:18Speaker 3: couple of AFC South titles to his name, so they
- 17:21Speaker 3: can get something done. I just they seem to need
- 17:24Speaker 3: to be like that team like the Colts the last
- 17:25Speaker 3: couple of years, unwilling to just move on.
- 17:28Speaker 1: They're definitely gonna work with what they have there. And
- 17:30Speaker 1: as we mentioned, Rabel finds a way usually, so we'll
- 17:32Speaker 1: see what he rolls out this season and see how
- 17:35Speaker 1: things fare coming up. We're gonna do some hot takes
- 17:38Speaker 1: for Week one and for this season, so stay with us.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Move the freight, Move the freight.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Magellan Transport voted the coolest office space in Jackson. Bill.
- 17:47Speaker 1: You can apply a line at www dot Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Welcome back into Jags am here in Hyundai Studios, and
- 17:55Speaker 1: we're doing hot takes because why not. We've won, you know,
- 17:58Speaker 1: less than a week away, so now they we're finally
- 18:00Speaker 1: talking football. Brian, you got a wider.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Team, eleven friend, let's swing right, yes, let's bring it
- 18:06Speaker 2: to it.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I just couldn't wait to go. Jags go undefeated in
- 18:09Speaker 3: the division, which they've never done. And here's why I
- 18:11Speaker 3: say that. I think they're too much for the Colts
- 18:14Speaker 3: and the Texans. A high powered offense like John talked
- 18:16Speaker 3: about against Miami. I think these guys are going to
- 18:19Speaker 3: put up a lot of points, and I just don't
- 18:20Speaker 3: know what rookie quarterbacks that you're going to be able
- 18:22Speaker 3: to overcome the points the Jaguars are going to score.
- 18:24Speaker 3: I think the Jaguars beat the Titans here in November,
- 18:27Speaker 3: and then it all comes down to the final Saturday
- 18:30Speaker 3: night or Sunday. That game has not been officially scheduled yet,
- 18:33Speaker 3: and I think the Jaguars overcome and I beat the
- 18:36Speaker 3: Titans and take their second consecutive division crown will be
- 18:39Speaker 3: the first time since the ninety eight ninety nine seasons
- 18:42Speaker 3: that they've won back to back division titles. And I
- 18:44Speaker 3: think they do that this year with a dramatic win
- 18:47Speaker 3: in Nashville to go six and zero in the division.
- 18:49Speaker 3: And we're talking, by the way, about a team the Jaguars,
- 18:51Speaker 3: who've never posted very good records in the AFC South, Right,
- 18:55Speaker 3: they did in two thousand and seven, twenty seventeen, and
- 18:58Speaker 3: twenty twenty two. I think this year they post the
- 19:01Speaker 3: best record possible in the AFC South.
- 19:04Speaker 4: It would be impressive because it's hard to win six
- 19:07Speaker 4: division games, even if you're really really good, because your
- 19:10Speaker 4: division and that's know you so well and just think
- 19:15Speaker 4: about you know, as much as teams may think the
- 19:18Speaker 4: Jaguars are favored this weekend, all of a sudden, you're
- 19:23Speaker 4: going up there a second time when you play them
- 19:25Speaker 4: and say, it's just hard.
- 19:26Speaker 2: So if they do that, Ryan, well, I think they're
- 19:29Speaker 2: going to the super Bowl.
- 19:30Speaker 3: She asked me for a hot take, not a mile take,
- 19:32Speaker 3: so I figured I'd swing for it. But here's what
- 19:35Speaker 3: I think. I think, John, that it's gonna come down
- 19:37Speaker 3: to the Titans and the Jaguars, right, obviously, if the
- 19:40Speaker 3: Jaguars don't beat them here in November, well then that
- 19:43Speaker 3: take is out right, and then it all comes down
- 19:46Speaker 3: to that final Sunday of the or Saturday night of
- 19:49Speaker 3: the regular season, which is kind of what we've been
- 19:51Speaker 3: seeing that the league try to do with the Jaguars
- 19:53Speaker 3: and Titans recently. So at least they'll be fun in
- 19:55Speaker 3: some drama to see if they can get there.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Pretty good, John, your hot takes a little more specific
- 19:59Speaker 1: to our game.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah, And I don't know if mine's hot.
- 20:03Speaker 4: It's maybe it's mild, maybe there's some heat. But I
- 20:08Speaker 4: think this game, it's been amazing how this fan base,
- 20:15Speaker 4: after years of feeling sort of like the underdog, all
- 20:19Speaker 4: of a sudden it's flexing its muscles, and boy we
- 20:22Speaker 4: should many fans are just looking past the Colts and
- 20:27Speaker 4: and they're actually asking me, are you worried that they'll
- 20:30Speaker 4: look past the Colts to the Chiefs. I don't think
- 20:33Speaker 4: a team that made the playoffs last year in the
- 20:35Speaker 4: last three minutes of the season and we're nine and eight,
- 20:38Speaker 4: is gonna overlook anybody.
- 20:41Speaker 2: This game.
- 20:41Speaker 4: I would be decided in the last five minutes, not
- 20:44Speaker 4: necessarily because the Jaguars are bad or the Colts are good,
- 20:47Speaker 4: but because Week one is so weird and you see
- 20:51Speaker 4: the weirdest scores. Sometimes it results in a blowout if
- 20:55Speaker 4: a team's just not ready. I think what you're gonna
- 20:57Speaker 4: see is Anthony Richardson have a couple of weird plays
- 21:00Speaker 4: that go for touchdowns.
- 21:02Speaker 2: I think it'll be a fight into the last.
- 21:04Speaker 4: I think the Jaguars a winning at the end, but
- 21:06Speaker 4: I think I'll be getting a lot of emails on Monday, guys.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Of what's wrong with the Jags?
- 21:10Speaker 4: They're one and oh, well, you know, okay, take one
- 21:14Speaker 4: and oh out of this game because if you win
- 21:16Speaker 4: Week one, right, take that and go home because it's
- 21:19Speaker 4: such a weird week, don't.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I don't disagree with any of that. The one thing
- 21:22Speaker 3: I'll accept, well, okay, except now you know, you and
- 21:25Speaker 3: I talked for years about the Jaguars, and when you
- 21:26Speaker 3: looked at the Jaguars roster, you know, from an objective
- 21:30Speaker 3: third party perspective, right, who really did you worry about?
- 21:33Speaker 3: Who made you work harder on Wednesday and Thursday and
- 21:37Speaker 3: sleep a little less secure on Saturday night? And they
- 21:40Speaker 3: really there wasn't anyone, right, Jack Wars didn't have that. Well,
- 21:43Speaker 3: now they've got players all over the roster that you
- 21:45Speaker 3: have to worry about. But here's my question, who is
- 21:48Speaker 3: it in Indianapolis that you're staying awake?
- 21:50Speaker 4: Probably only a quarterback and if they had Jonathan Taylor,
- 21:53Speaker 4: you've got two.
- 21:54Speaker 2: It's a much different dynamic.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Forest Buckner, but he's an interior defensive lineman, right, he's
- 22:00Speaker 3: the only other guy. They just don't have it. And
- 22:03Speaker 3: I'll say, as I went through my exercise of hot take,
- 22:06Speaker 3: there's nobody really in Houston.
- 22:08Speaker 2: That makes you do the same thing.
- 22:09Speaker 3: You know. JJ Watt isn't there anywhere. Whitney Merciless isn't
- 22:13Speaker 3: there anymore. The Colts just don't have those those players
- 22:17Speaker 3: that make you do that. Now, Richardson make any that
- 22:20Speaker 3: in time, but I just don't see it yet.
- 22:22Speaker 1: My hot takes for Week one as well, because I'm
- 22:24Speaker 1: expecting our defense to do a little bit of something
- 22:26Speaker 1: that we're hoping is a trend for the rest of
- 22:28Speaker 1: the season. I think they will sack Anthony Richardson on Sunday.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I think they'll probably get more than one, and that's
- 22:33Speaker 1: based off I know that Anthony Richardson is elusive. I
- 22:36Speaker 1: know that he can do some crazy things and get
- 22:38Speaker 1: his way out of certain things. We've seeing that in
- 22:40Speaker 1: the preseason already. But you don't have Jonathan Taylor out there.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You don't have anybody to bail you out. And I
- 22:45Speaker 1: think being a rookie quarterback in the NFL we overlook
- 22:48Speaker 1: at maybe because of what Trevor. You know, Trevor had
- 22:49Speaker 1: his growing pains as well, but like it's not easy.
- 22:52Speaker 1: This is a huge transition for him and what we're
- 22:54Speaker 1: actually going to see out there. As we mentioned John,
- 22:56Speaker 1: Week ones a little weird, but Anthony Richardson's in for
- 22:59Speaker 1: a big dose real check. I think when Week one starts.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I think they'll get a couple of sacks.
- 23:03Speaker 4: I think they'll get him late because I do think
- 23:05Speaker 4: by the last drive, the Jaguars will have the lead.
- 23:10Speaker 2: And Anthony Richardson will be going against the defense that
- 23:12Speaker 2: knows he's coming.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I think they'll get a couple of sacks to end it,
- 23:16Speaker 4: but I think he'll be dangerous early.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Well, yeah, the size Steed ratio with that guy. Jack
- 23:21Speaker 3: Derrio always just talked about Ben Roethlisberger and say his accuracy,
- 23:26Speaker 3: his passing, completion percentage went up on plays where you
- 23:29Speaker 3: hit him. And this guy looks to be someone who
- 23:31Speaker 3: can stand in the pocket. He's six four, two fifty
- 23:34Speaker 3: and maybe as muscular quarterback as we've seen since Cam Newton. Right,
- 23:39Speaker 3: big strong guy who'll stand in the pocket. It's early
- 23:42Speaker 3: in his career. He's obviously going to get a little
- 23:44Speaker 3: bit flushed. He's gonna see jerseys across his face and
- 23:47Speaker 3: just decide it's time to run. So I'm interested to see,
- 23:50Speaker 3: you know, how long it takes him to stand in
- 23:52Speaker 3: the pocket, because he.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Can do it.
- 23:53Speaker 1: We'll definitely see some flashes, but excited to see him
- 23:55Speaker 1: in game action on Sunday as JAG's head to Indianapolis.
- 23:58Speaker 2: All right, stay with us.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Coming up, we'll preview what we've got coming up the

- 24:29Speaker 2: Jack's Wired obviously comes up on Wednesday night.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Excited to you know, kind of recap the preseason and
- 24:33Speaker 3: get her and focused forward. Really, I mean it's the
- 24:38Speaker 3: energy level around the first week is a lot of
- 24:39Speaker 3: fun because you get in the locker room for the
- 24:41Speaker 3: first time. Now get guys in their own setting, John
- 24:44Speaker 3: get talked as many guys as you can, and I'm
- 24:47Speaker 3: excited about the regular season start.
