- 0:00First Peter chapter 3, let us pray our Father who is in
- 0:10heaven, Lord, we acknowledge that you are high and lifted up
- 0:17over everything, everybody, over the entire universe, over the
- 0:22globe, God, over every authority.
- 0:25You are higher and more lofty. You are El Elian, El Shaddai
- 0:35Adonai. You are Jehovah Rafa and Jehovah
- 0:41Nisi, Jehovah Jireh. You are.
- 0:47I am. You are the God who sees.
- 0:54You're the healer. You're the banner God.
- 0:57You're almighty, your Lord, you are the Creator, You're the only
- 1:04uncreated, and God, we worship you in spirit and truth today.
- 1:11We enter in to the most holy place today with clean hands and
- 1:16a pure heart. We have not bowed down to idols
- 1:21or swore by a false God, for this is the generation that
- 1:25seeks thy face, O Jacob. May we keep your name holy.
- 1:35May we keep your name set apart. Father, help us not to
- 1:40blasphemy. Help us not to take it lightly.
- 1:43God, we pray for your Kingdom to come upon this earth just as it
- 1:52is there. We pray, God for your will, not
- 1:55our own selfish will and vanity. God, we pray that we'll get out
- 2:00of our own way and that we'll step into your way.
- 2:03We'll step into the reality, God, that you are far greater
- 2:07and better than anything that we could ever come up with.
- 2:13God, I pray for your daily bread.
- 2:16I pray that we'll get a fresh loaf of bread out of the oven
- 2:20today. Lord, help us not to eat upon
- 2:24the successes of yesterday. Help us not to live in light of
- 2:30what you have done, but help us to press towards what you want
- 2:36to do. Lord, for this generation, for
- 2:40such a time as this. God, I pray that you'll help us,
- 2:45Lord, to eat sumptuously upon the flesh of Christ and to drink
- 2:51upon His blood today in remembrance of what He did for
- 2:54us. Lord, I pray that you will
- 3:01forgive us for all of the sins that we have committed, are
- 3:06committing, or will ever commit. God, help us to be graceful and
- 3:11generous to all those around us. Father, never holding on to a
- 3:17root of bitterness. Help us not to be critical, God
- 3:20and negative, but help us to be loving and graceful and merciful
- 3:26and forgiving our brother. 70 * 7 or keep us from the enemy.
- 3:34Keep us from the schemes of the enemy.
- 3:36Help us not to fall into the pitfalls, God.
- 3:40Help us not to fall into the traps and the deception and the
- 3:44trickery, God and the gimmickry of all of this false allegiance
- 3:51and all of the false teachings. God, help us to stand upon the
- 3:57inerrant, infallible Word. Help us to know that it is the
- 4:01Logos and the Rhema. Lord, help us to know that it is
- 4:05You and you became it and it is flesh.
- 4:08God, Your Word is all that we need for here and for now and
- 4:14for this time. God keep us from all of the evil
- 4:20within this world. Form a hedge of protection
- 4:22around us as we take the whole word to the whole world.
- 4:28For yours, God Almighty is the Kingdom forever and ever.
- 4:35For yours, God Almighty, Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac and
- 4:40Jacob the Great, I am the Most High.
- 4:43God is the power for you ABBA. This is a glory and we pray in
- 4:56Jesus Christ holy and precious and powerful and awesome name
- 5:06Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 5:13Likewise you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands,
- 5:22that if any obey not the word, they also may, without the word,
- 5:27be won by the conversation of the wives.
- 5:30This was written in a time where it was unheard of for a wife to
- 5:38be practicing any other religion than her husband's.
- 5:44And you can see here that Jesus Christ did more for women's
- 5:48rights than anyone else has ever in the history of mankind.
- 5:54And it is not that the man is better than the woman.
- 5:59This is not what Jesus Christ ever preached.
- 6:04He revealed His deity to a woman at a well.
- 6:09He revealed the resurrection to a woman at the tomb.
- 6:14Jesus Christ is pro women's rights.
- 6:19But I want you to know this feminist movement is satanic in
- 6:23its core and it is meant to dumb down the role of the man and it
- 6:30is to make them seem as if they are inept and unable to lead and
- 6:35that is satanic at its core. You need to understand that God
- 6:39puts people in their respective roles on purpose and the family
- 6:46in the way that the family operates is holy and pleasing
- 6:50unto God Almighty. And it is God at the head.
- 6:55And then it is the husband and then it is the wife and then the
- 7:00children. And if we will operate in that
- 7:03model, you will see peace and unity.
- 7:06And it is the the wife's role to be in submission unto the
- 7:13husband. And you need to understand that
- 7:17the husband has to submit. He is not free from submission.
- 7:22Friends, the husband must submit to God Almighty.
- 7:28And Peter here is going to tell us that we are Co equal laborers
- 7:34and inheritors of the Kingdom of God.
- 7:38And it is not that man is better than woman friends, but it is
- 7:43the way of God in the institution of marriage and
- 7:48family. And if we will play our roles
- 7:52you will see so much peace flood into your home.
- 7:56And if you have become hostile to what some perceive as
- 8:02misogynistic and machismo, and when we step out of line and we
- 8:11put women in leadership positions over a man, whether it
- 8:16be in the church or in the home, We have overstepped our
- 8:21boundaries within the confines of God's Word and we will reap
- 8:28the effects of that disunity. Verse 2 while they behold your
- 8:39chaste conversation coupled with fear.
- 8:43So these were women he's speaking to who are believers
- 8:48but their husbands are not. And he's saying, stay in the
- 8:53marriage, and perhaps by your holy conversation that he will
- 8:59come over and become a believer unto God.
- 9:03And this was written to women who had husbands who were
- 9:08hostile towards God. Verse 3 whose adorning?
- 9:14Let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair,
- 9:20wearing of gold or of putting on of apparel.
- 9:25So here Peter is telling the women to let their beauty shine
- 9:29from the inside. It is incorruptible.
- 9:32You cannot take it away. You could dress up Cinderella in
- 9:36rags, but she is still beautiful within.
- 9:41And that is the difference, friends, and that is what is
- 9:43pleasing to God and that is what He's after.
- 9:46We don't need to rely on the outward things to make us
- 9:51beautiful. He's telling the women to let
- 9:54their beauty come from within, for but let it be the hidden man
- 10:01of the heart in that which is not corruptible, even the
- 10:05ornament of a meek and quiet spirit which is in the sight of
- 10:09God of great price. No one can take it away from
- 10:13you. They could snatch the pearls off
- 10:16of your neck, they could RIP the very dress off of your body, but
- 10:21they cannot take the quiet and gentle spirit that is pleasing
- 10:26unto God and is beautiful in the sight of a holy God.
- 10:31And that is a call for women to find their beauty in Him and not
- 10:36in their outward dress, not in their hairstyles, not in their
- 10:40jewelry or makeup. Friends, it is from the Lord God
- 10:44Almighty, and it comes from a gentle and quiet submissive
- 10:48spirit which is pleasing unto God. 5 For after this manner, in
- 10:58the old time, the holy women also, who trusted in God,
- 11:02adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own
- 11:07husbands. So here Peter was writing to an
- 11:12audience that was not much different than the one that you
- 11:17and I live in today, where the women had access to all kinds of
- 11:25luxury and finery. And he's telling them to look
- 11:29back at a time when all of that was not even available, and to
- 11:34go back and look and see how the women of old behaved and to
- 11:39mirror and model their lives after them.
- 11:43And this is a hard lesson for us friends, in our day and our
- 11:47hour, where men's eyes wander and women feel inadequate.
- 11:55And that is a call for the husband to make their wife feel
- 11:59beautiful and to know that she is honoured in their sight.
- 12:04And that his eyes are not for any other woman, his eyes are
- 12:07not laying upon any other, that his eyes are only for his wife
- 12:14and his wife only. And if men would do that, then
- 12:18women would not feel the need to go out and to spend the awful
- 12:23amount of money and time and energy in all of the outward
- 12:29appearances which fade away. And when they do, because they
- 12:33will. But when they fade away, they
- 12:36feel even lower and more degraded than ever.
- 12:40And that is a call for husbands to uplift their wives and make
- 12:45them feel beautiful. 6 Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling
- 12:52him Lord, whose daughters you are, as long as you do well and
- 12:58are not afraid with any amazement.
- 13:01So Peter here, the Holy Spirit here, God Almighty here, He is
- 13:08wanting the women to know that their beauty comes from within
- 13:12and not from any outward extremities.
- 13:17They do not need to live in fear is if they are beautiful or not
- 13:22in the sight of God. And that is a call for the
- 13:25husbands to make sure that they are practicing the heart of God
- 13:32and the mind of Christ and they're actually thinking things
- 13:35through and they're not like little animals or boys.
- 13:39They're acting like men, and they're honoring their wives,
- 13:43and two becoming one. 7 Likewise you husbands dwell with them
- 13:52according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife as unto the
- 13:58weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of
- 14:07life, that your prayers be not hindered.
- 14:13What a call for husbands. If we want to fast track our
- 14:18prayers to Almighty God and we want our prayers to be heard and
- 14:24to be answered, we honor our wives.
- 14:30We become one with our wife. We are not autonomous.
- 14:35We do not just keep her in her role as we go out and do
- 14:39whatever we want to do. Your prayers will be hindered if
- 14:44you do so. And she is the weaker vessel,
- 14:48friends in strength, but she is not lesser than or less
- 14:54important. 8 Finally, be you all of one mind, having compassion,
- 15:08one of another. Love as brothers, be pitiful, be
- 15:16courteous. So he's telling us all to have
- 15:20the mind of Christ and to be banded together as brothers and
- 15:25sisters in Christ Jesus, the bride of Christ.
- 15:29Friends always helping each other out and thinking of others
- 15:34as better than ourselves. What a hard concept for many. 9
- 15:42Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing, but
- 15:49contrary wise blessing, knowing that you are there unto called
- 15:57that you should inherit a blessing.
- 16:00So he's telling us, don't repay evil for evil.
- 16:04That is what the world does. They backbite, they gossip, they
- 16:07slander, they break each other down to climb to the next rung
- 16:12of the corporate ladder. They don't care who they have to
- 16:15step on to get there. And it's all about greed and
- 16:19it's all about pride and it's all about position to the rest
- 16:24of the world. And we are not called to behave
- 16:27in that manner. We bless when we're struck.
- 16:31We're blessed when we curse, knowing that God will repay us
- 16:35back with a blessing. What a hard concept for many. 10
- 16:43For he that will love life and see good days, Let him refrain
- 16:48his tongue from evil and his lips that they speak no guile.
- 16:53You could evade so much hardship if you just keep your mouth
- 16:59shut. The world's going to do what the
- 17:04world does. Lost people are going to do what
- 17:08lost people do. You need to understand that.
- 17:14You need to know that we are called to be the difference
- 17:18makers in this world, the peacemakers in this world.
- 17:23We are more than conquerors. And if God is for us, then who
- 17:27can be against us? We serve God Almighty and God
- 17:33alone is the one who takes care of us.
- 17:36He feeds us and He clothes us and he sends the angelic host to
- 17:42encamp around us and to make sure that we make it home
- 17:48safely. 11 Let him eschew evil, do good.
- 17:57Let him seek peace and ensue it. That's what we're called. 2
- 18:01friends. We're the peacemakers.
- 18:04Don't find yourself on the wrong side of history.
- 18:09Far be it for a Christian to ever persecute another person or
- 18:14to be hateful towards someone else made in the image of God.
- 18:19We do not need to be racist friends.
- 18:22We do not need to be this elitist mindset thinking that
- 18:27we're better than others. We do not need to be those who
- 18:32are hateful for the sake of being hateful, or to be
- 18:36prejudice friends. That is not pleasing unto a holy
- 18:40God. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his
- 18:51ears are open unto the prayers, but the face of the Lord is
- 18:57against them that do evil. Write it down, highlight it,
- 19:02underline it, mark it. Friends, write it in the margins
- 19:07of your Bible, in your journal. Put it as your screensaver.
- 19:11Friends, if you do write, God will listen and answer to your
- 19:16prayers. But when you are evil and you
- 19:19care nothing for God, His face is against you.
- 19:25That is a promise contained in the Word of God, and it does not
- 19:30work any other way. 13 And who is he that will harm you?
- 19:43If you be followers of that which is good, There is no harm
- 19:48that could befall someone who does good.
- 19:51Even if you are persecuted, martyred and killed for the
- 19:55faith, Jesus Christ will become sweet to you and He will be
- 20:00there to lead you through the waters. 14 But if, but, and if
- 20:09you suffer for righteousness sakes, happy are you.
- 20:14Be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled.
- 20:19Don't let them intimidate you. Satan just has a roar.
- 20:24He's been defanged and declawed. There's no power that He has
- 20:29over you. Jesus Christ holds the keys to
- 20:32death and to hell, and there is no power that is greater than
- 20:38God Almighty. And all Satan can do is
- 20:42intimidate you. And you might have to die the
- 20:46first death, but you will not have to die the second if you
- 20:49are in Christ Jesus. 15 Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and
- 20:58be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks
- 21:02you for a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness
- 21:08and fear. This is apologetics 101.
- 21:12Everywhere that we go and every person that we meet, every arena
- 21:17we find ourselves in, we always need to be ready to give the
- 21:22reason of why we smile, of why we have joy in the midst of pain
- 21:29and trials and tribulations. Why we can be so positive when
- 21:33the whole world is going to hell in a handbasket, friends.
- 21:39And it is because of the love of Jesus Christ that lives inside
- 21:43of us that we do not place our hope and finances.
- 21:49We do not place our hope in governments.
- 21:52We do not place our hope in our nationality.
- 21:55We do not place our hope in our bank account or in the stock
- 21:59market. We do not place our hope in good
- 22:02looks. We do not place our hope in any
- 22:05other place than in Jesus Christ and Jesus alone, but we need to
- 22:13be able to articulate that in a clear manner where people
- 22:21understand it at the most basic principles.
- 22:28Always be ready. Sanctify the Lord God in your
- 22:33hearts. Do not let your hearts be
- 22:35troubled. Do not let your hearts be filled
- 22:38with all kinds of evil and malice.
- 22:41Give no place for those things. Take every thought captive, and
- 22:45make it obedient unto Christ Jesus. 16 Having a good
- 22:50conscience, that where as they speak evil of you, as of evil
- 23:01doers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good
- 23:08conversation in Christ. That is the way of God.
- 23:13The world's going to do what the world does.
- 23:15Lost people are going to do what lost people do.
- 23:18They're going to talk smack and trash of the things that they're
- 23:21ignorant of. But if you will be patient in
- 23:25the affliction, it will put them to shame, and perhaps they will
- 23:30see the error of their way and give their life over to the Lord
- 23:35Jesus Christ. 17 For it is better if the will of God be so
- 23:44that you suffer for well doing than for doing evil.
- 23:49What a simple principle. Don't suffer for doing wrong,
- 23:53but if you suffer for doing right, count it all as joy.
- 23:57Friends. They persecuted the prophets of
- 24:01old, and they killed our Lord Jesus Christ on a criminal's
- 24:05cross, and he was perfect and innocent.
- 24:08And if they did that to him, don't be surprised if they do it
- 24:11to you. 18 For Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just
- 24:23for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to
- 24:29death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit, the
- 24:35Holy Spirit, Jesus himself and God Almighty resurrected Jesus
- 24:41from the dead. And we're going to get into a
- 24:44little section here that's very interesting and we can surmise
- 24:48all kinds of points about what is about to be said, but suffice
- 24:53to say that this Silent Saturday was Friday.
- 25:01Jesus Christ hung on a criminal's cross and he breathed
- 25:05his last. He said it is finished to
- 25:07Telesty, paid in full, and no one took his life from him, but
- 25:12he laid it down willingly. And then here on Silent
- 25:16Saturday, he goes down into Sheol.
- 25:21And the Bible is clear, and it teaches us that there was this
- 25:27place for all of the spirits of the dead, and for the
- 25:31unrighteous it was torment. But for the righteous it was
- 25:34Abraham's bosom. And this is not purgatory,
- 25:37friends. Jesus went down and snatched the
- 25:40keys. He made a triumphant lap and a
- 25:44victory over all of the evil spirits of Noah's day, and he
- 25:52showed them that he was victorious as he snatches the
- 25:56keys and he shuts down that place.
- 26:02And you need to know that all of the dead before the cross of
- 26:09Christ, every single person still had to come in the same
- 26:15way that you and I have through Christ Jesus.
- 26:20And you might ask yourself, well, how could they if they had
- 26:27never heard and Jesus was never born?
- 26:30But you need to understand that God gave them this ability to
- 26:42obey what was revealed to them from Adam all the way up to John
- 26:50the Baptist. They all had their limited
- 26:56revelation from God of what to obey and to practice their
- 27:03faith, which God would accept them.
- 27:07But it was always in light of Christ.
- 27:11It was always in light of what Christ was going to do, and God
- 27:16had a plan to bring Christ as the atonement for our sins.
- 27:22Before He even breathed His breath into Adam, before He
- 27:26formed him from the dust, God already had a plan.
- 27:30It is not that God is pacing back and forth trying to figure
- 27:34out what to do. Every single human being on
- 27:39planet earth must come to God Almighty through His Son Jesus
- 27:45Christ. And Abraham was the father of
- 27:48faith, and you can see that it was faith through Jesus Christ
- 27:59in Jesus Christ. And what the promises of old
- 28:03pointing towards Jesus Christ was painting this beautiful
- 28:11masterpiece that culminated. And now we all look back.
- 28:16We have the finished artwork, we have the finished revelation.
- 28:24Nothing added to it. And we don't need to wonder as
- 28:29the prophets of old did. And they longed to see what was
- 28:33given to them only in pieces, in part, in fragmentations.
- 28:38But as they placed their faith in what was revealed to them,
- 28:42God accredited to them as righteousness.
- 28:47And they were saved friends. And this is a lot to munch on,
- 28:53but we will read what the word of God says, and form our
- 28:58opinions off of God's word, not off of man's ideas or thoughts.
- 29:05Let every man be a liar, and the only thing that we can truly
- 29:09bank on is what does the word of God say?
- 29:1619 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in
- 29:22prison. 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the
- 29:30long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark
- 29:36was a preparing, wherein few, that is, 8 souls were saved by
- 29:43water. So Jesus goes and preaches to
- 29:46the spirits in hell. He snatches the keys, and he
- 29:54leads a procession up and out of that place.
- 29:58Imagine that friends, what an amazing thought.
- 30:04And you can see here that they were sometimes disobedient.
- 30:10And the long-suffering of God. It says in Genesis that it
- 30:14grieved God that he had even made mankind, that every thought
- 30:17continuously was evil, and now he only saved 8 out of the
- 30:23entire world. And it is likened unto our
- 30:27baptism, where we are laid down in the death of Christ, but were
- 30:33raised up in the resurrection of life. 21 The like figure where
- 30:41unto even baptism does also now save us, not the putting away of
- 30:46the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience
- 30:49towards God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- 30:54That's what we want more than anything, is this clear
- 30:57conscience, knowing that we can stand before God Almighty one
- 31:01day, and He's not going to look upon any of our sins.
- 31:05And you need to know that it is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
- 31:11that saves us and the Holy Spirit comes and dwells within
- 31:14us. And baptism is only the outward
- 31:18expression of an inward change. That is what you need to
- 31:22understand. Baptism in itself does not save
- 31:26anyone. Verse 22 who is gone into heaven
- 31:35and is on the right hand of God, angels and authorities and
- 31:41powers being made subject to him.
- 31:46What an amazing thought here. Jesus Christ descended into the
- 31:52lower parts of the earth. He proclaimed His victory to
- 31:57all. The evil dead shut down that
- 32:01place. Now they all are awaiting the
- 32:06great white throne, where every knee will bow and every tongue
- 32:10will confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord.
- 32:14And if you were to take your last breath today, there are
- 32:17only two places that you will go.
- 32:20You will either be in paradise with Him.
- 32:24To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord for
- 32:28those that are in Christ. But if you refuse His love, you
- 32:34will be eternally separated from Him forever.
- 32:41I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 32:44Word. I know I sure have.
- 32:46We've been munching on a lot of deep theological thoughts here,
- 32:51friends. You can spend an entire lifetime
- 32:56studying this passage and what it all means, but we have very
- 33:03limited knowledge and one day, what we only see in part now, we
- 33:09will see fully when we take our last breath in the culmination
- 33:14of it all. Whenever he makes heaven, a new
