- 0:05Speaker 1: I've written a letter to Daddy.
- 0:12Speaker 2: His address is heaven.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Above I've written, dear Daddy, we miss you I wish
- 0:25Speaker 1: you were with us through love. Instead of a stamp,
- 0:34Speaker 1: I put kisses.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I guess as we get into this, we should tell
- 0:39Speaker 3: everybody about the movies that we could watch unless they
- 0:43Speaker 3: give us a better option. Because normally I'll go through
- 0:46Speaker 3: the ones that I've run into in the real world
- 0:48Speaker 3: and I'll look at the, I usually will find these
- 0:51Speaker 3: weird ones in stores and I'll be like, what the
- 0:52Speaker 3: hell is this? And it's a legit question most of
- 0:55Speaker 3: the time. I don't even know that some of them
- 0:57Speaker 3: are movies. But this time I'm looking through the list.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I'm like, we usually at least try to find a
- 1:02Speaker 3: tie in or some sort of weird theme to what
- 1:05Speaker 3: we're actually watching this week. Nothing really fit. So I
- 1:08Speaker 3: was like, I wonder what other stuff could be tied
- 1:12Speaker 3: to this movie that we watched this episode. And, you know,
- 1:17Speaker 3: you find you go online. Don't get me wrong. The
- 1:21Speaker 3: Internet is a wonderful place and I make use of it.
- 1:23Speaker 3: All the time. But a lot of times people who
- 1:26Speaker 3: think they're like, 10 horror movie remakes you never knew existed.
- 1:32Speaker 3: I'm like, really? The fog? Because I knew it existed.
- 1:35Speaker 3: You're not blowing my mind here. Every once in a while,
- 1:38Speaker 3: I'll get the one that I'm like, oh, you have
- 1:40Speaker 3: dug deep. Good for you. So there were tons and
- 1:44Speaker 3: tons of those same remakes from the beginning of this
- 1:46Speaker 3: century that we all know about. But I did get
- 1:49Speaker 3: to this and I went, oh, well, this has a
- 1:51Speaker 3: direct tie into our movie of the week. In 1991,
- 1:56Speaker 3: there is a made for TV redone version of Whatever
- 2:01Speaker 3: Happened to Baby Jane.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Oh, really? Yes.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I did not know that. And I guess impressively at
- 2:09Speaker 3: the time, it stars the Redgrave sisters.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Really?
- 2:14Speaker 3: As the sisters. So I'm like, that's an even more
- 2:17Speaker 3: direct route than the original one. So there's a threat.
- 2:21Speaker 3: And truthfully, I watched the little promo on ABC, and
- 2:24Speaker 3: it's like, tonight's movie of the week. And I was like,
- 2:27Speaker 3: you know, this at least looks interesting. I don't know
- 2:30Speaker 3: that I'm going to say better, because I'm a pretty
- 2:33Speaker 3: big fan of the original, but I would watch it, so... I've.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Never seen the original. It's one of those ones, it's
- 2:40Speaker 4: like one of these days.
- 2:42Speaker 3: It is worth seeing. It is, especially for as old
- 2:46Speaker 3: as it is, it is pretty crazy. It is a
- 2:49Speaker 3: nice portrayal of weird and crazy for that long ago.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I haven't seen that either, but I want to.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I know I would like it. The original version?
- 2:58Speaker 4: The remake, I'm looking at stills from the remake and
- 3:01Speaker 4: it looks fairly creepy.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, so.
- 3:05Speaker 3: There was a good one to throw out. I was like,
- 3:07Speaker 3: you know, I could go either way on that. Yeah.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Usually it's a threat that I don't want to see,
- 3:11Speaker 3: but watching the promo, I'm like, I'd watch this. So
- 3:14Speaker 3: if you think we should watch that, you know, join
- 3:17Speaker 3: the Meltdown Horror Club and suggest that is the movie
- 3:20Speaker 3: we actually need to watch.
- 3:22Speaker 4: There's so much going on in that picture.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Ooh. If you think the... Oh, yeah. Disturbing. If you
- 3:29Speaker 3: think that remake is a terrible idea and it's a
- 3:31Speaker 3: travesty to ever try to remake the original, then... You
- 3:35Speaker 3: should join the Meltdown Horror Club and give us a
- 3:38Speaker 3: better option than this remake that you think we shouldn't watch.
- 3:42Speaker 3: These are your options. It's good to have options. That's
- 3:46Speaker 3: what we're hoping for as we get into these episodes
- 3:49Speaker 3: where we say crazy things like this.
- 3:53Speaker 6: And it's kind of slow and it's a lot of
- 3:56Speaker 6: different sources of this footage. So you're like following a
- 4:00Speaker 6: guy who has like a paranormal TV show. And kind
- 4:03Speaker 6: of seeing his cases, but then it cuts to like
- 4:07Speaker 6: a variety show TV thing where they're testing psychic skills
- 4:11Speaker 6: of children, which I guess happens in Japan sometimes.
- 4:14Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 4:15Speaker 6: And then so it kind of is back and forth
- 4:17Speaker 6: and you're putting it all together.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I almost feel like instead of making that a twist ending,
- 4:24Speaker 4: if they had incorporated that into the story as it
- 4:27Speaker 4: was happening, you might have been like, ooh, okay.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Maybe not from the get-go, but maybe midway in, you
- 4:34Speaker 3: might be like, oh. Into the second act, maybe throw
- 4:36Speaker 3: it in there. Dude, but it does like a really
- 4:40Speaker 3: cool way of like throwing you into this scenario. And
- 4:44Speaker 3: that's really the only thing that ties all of this together.
- 4:46Speaker 3: It's always just sort of like, weird story arc that
- 4:51Speaker 3: you're like oh i feel bad for this guy and
- 4:53Speaker 3: as he goes on you're like he keeps making these
- 4:56Speaker 3: horrible decisions that you're like i don't know what to
- 4:59Speaker 3: do with you as a character anymore so.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Fun but i saw it when i was 14 it
- 5:05Speaker 2: was like one of the first horror movies i watched
- 5:07Speaker 2: with my best friend at a sleepover we've watched it
- 5:10Speaker 2: many times since it's campy it's fun i like the setting.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Technicality they even address in the movie well i think
- 5:19Speaker 4: it takes about 39 years for bones to turn to
- 5:21Speaker 4: dust and i don't know if that's true or not
- 5:23Speaker 4: but you've already established something and then but that.
- 5:28Speaker 6: Whole thing it was like these women are hot i
- 5:32Speaker 6: want to do violence to them yes i.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Don't like her but i still want to do her
- 5:38Speaker 3: and that makes me angry yes i don't know yeah
- 5:42Speaker 3: if your family's messed up your family's messed up and
- 5:45Speaker 3: it's going to not necessarily get better or worse, but
- 5:48Speaker 3: it's going to be weird and different and possibly even
- 5:50Speaker 3: more intensified when you're in this little isolated world or
- 5:53Speaker 3: they ship you off to weird places because they have
- 5:56Speaker 3: money to do that. Just, ah, she's causing trouble. Let's
- 5:59Speaker 3: sweep that under the rug. We'll get rid of her
- 6:00Speaker 3: and send her off somewhere.
- 6:03Speaker 6: Although one of the women who's kind of a central
- 6:06Speaker 6: character is an actress going by her own name. So
- 6:11Speaker 6: I don't know how meta that is, because I don't
- 6:13Speaker 6: know how famous she was.
- 6:16Speaker 4: And then when we find out they're from Florida, I'm like, oh, really?
- 6:19Speaker 4: If I cared about everybody who died horrifically or mysteriously
- 6:22Speaker 4: in Florida, I would get nothing else done.
- 6:26Speaker 3: But it is weird. Like, she was kind of, like,
- 6:28Speaker 3: thrown into these lead roles and was sort of poised
- 6:30Speaker 3: to be a huge star. And then it just didn't
- 6:32Speaker 3: work out.
- 6:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 2: And it's really creepy.
- 6:36Speaker 6: It's a creepy, very well-done, spooky... There's some kind of
- 6:42Speaker 6: like folk horror stuff going on there.
- 6:44Speaker 3: What the hell's a cousin's keeper?
- 6:47Speaker 6: He's a little, he's his cousin coming from out of
- 6:50Speaker 6: town to visit, but he's a puppet, but no one
- 6:52Speaker 6: else is a puppet and it's never spoken of.
- 6:56Speaker 3: That's what I'm thinking of now. I was like, well,
- 6:57Speaker 3: it does add an extra layer of creepy to things now.
- 7:03Speaker 4: With his character, it wouldn't take all that long because
- 7:05Speaker 4: his eye holes or his eyes are still exposed.
- 7:08Speaker 3: And he was still alive kind of. Yeah, that sucked.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I was just like, what?
- 7:12Speaker 4: Especially when his buddy's like, I'll help you, and peels
- 7:14Speaker 4: his face off. And then says, oh, my bad.
- 7:17Speaker 6: I'll help.
- 7:18Speaker 3: And then just keeps doing it.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I know, he keeps doing it.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Face off.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Because he kills them in such violent ways. Like, he
- 7:25Speaker 6: literally chops the one guy's head off. And I'm like,
- 7:27Speaker 6: you're making your job harder for yourself. Wow, the volume
- 7:32Speaker 6: on that outfit. There's so much going on.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Is it easy to cut a person's... Or is it
- 7:40Speaker 4: that easy to cut a person's tendons?
- 7:41Speaker 3: I don't know, but everybody... I don't know anybody who's
- 7:45Speaker 3: not horrified by the thought of that. Everybody who's ever
- 7:48Speaker 3: seen Pet Simulator still talks about that. Nothing else in
- 7:51Speaker 3: that movie has stuck with people over the years, but
- 7:53Speaker 3: they're just like, ugh! Everybody freaks out.
- 7:55Speaker 4: I'm just saying, in this movie, they just walk up
- 7:57Speaker 4: behind him with a pair of scissors and just snip it.
- 8:01Speaker 6: I don't even know how big it is. Does it
- 8:03Speaker 6: run the whole length, or is there a certain spot?
- 8:06Speaker 4: I feel like... With the F for me with the scissors,
- 8:09Speaker 4: you'd be like, excuse me, what are you doing?
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yeah, with scissors, it'd be a little more fighting. If
- 8:13Speaker 3: you had like a scalpel.
- 8:15Speaker 4: You'd be like, what is this pet cemetery bullshit?
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like, hey, hey, hey, hey. You know, permanent monster,
- 8:21Speaker 3: get off me.
- 8:23Speaker 1: No.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Stop, stop, stop.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Just once, I'd love to see a reaction like that
- 8:29Speaker 4: in a slasher film.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Just, no, you go over there. Get away from me.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Put those down.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Stop it. A little spray bottle?
- 8:39Speaker 3: I want you to think about what you've done. He's
- 8:43Speaker 3: still working. Wow, good for him.
- 8:44Speaker 4: This is not what I would expect a show Cousin
- 8:48Speaker 4: Skeeter to be at all.
- 8:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 8:52Speaker 4: And how did this sail past my radar? 1998.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Someone put Cousin Skeeter on the list.
- 8:59Speaker 3: It can count as horror. Oh, no. Okay, moving on.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Before I get sucked down the baby Jane rabbit hole.
- 9:10Speaker 3: That's what happens, see? You'll be baby Janed up real quick. So,
- 9:15Speaker 3: go to MovieMeltdown.com, join the Meltdown Horror Club, and give
- 9:18Speaker 3: us a movie to watch. Better, worse, or that one.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Whatever you want to do. Even if you just hate
- 9:23Speaker 3: us and want us to suffer. That seems like it
- 9:26Speaker 3: happens sometimes, and not even... I think we do that
- 9:29Speaker 3: to ourselves. There's some Spangoolie somewhere pulling the strings on
- 9:33Speaker 3: this nonsense. Pull the strings.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Pull the strings whatever happened to baby jane she could
- 9:42Speaker 5: dance she could sing make the biggest theater ring jane
- 9:48Speaker 5: could do most anything whatever happened to baby jane whatever
- 9:55Speaker 5: happened to baby jane when she'd walk at her feet.
- 10:00Speaker 3: There was no one half as sweet.
