- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 102! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. And today we're going to a café. Luna: Oh, I love cafés. Are we ordering coffee? Lucas: We'll get to coffee. But first, let's start with the most popular drink in East Africa: chai. Luna: Chai! Right, tea. So how do I say 'I want tea'? Lucas: Nataka chai. Nataka means I want. Chai is tea. So: Nataka chai. Luna: Nataka chai. Nataka chai. That's easy. What if I want tea with milk? Lucas: Great question. Chai ya maziwa. Ya means of, maziwa is milk. So chai ya maziwa is tea with milk. Luna: Chai ya maziwa. I love it. So I'd say: Nataka chai ya maziwa. Lucas: Exactly! Now, how about coffee? Coffee is kahawa. Luna: Kahawa. That's similar to the English word. Nataka kahawa. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want coffee with sugar? You can ask: Kahawa ya sukari? Sukari is sugar. Luna: Kahawa ya sukari? So I'm asking if it's coffee with sugar. Lucas: Yes. Or you can say: Nataka kahawa ya sukari. Luna: Nataka kahawa ya sukari. Got it. And we need 'please' and 'thank you', right? Lucas: Tafadhali for please, and asante for thank you. So you could say: Nataka chai, tafadhali. Luna: Nataka chai, tafadhali. And then asante when they bring it. Lucas: Yes. Let's put it together. Imagine you're at a café. You say: Nataka chai ya maziwa, tafadhali. Luna: Nataka chai ya maziwa, tafadhali. Lucas: And the server brings it. You say: Asante. Luna: Asante. So simple. What about ordering coffee the same way? Lucas: Exactly: Nataka kahawa, tafadhali. Or Nataka kahawa ya sukari, tafadhali. Luna: Nataka kahawa ya sukari, tafadhali. I can do that. Lucas: You're a natural. Let's practice a quick dialogue. I'll be the server. You order. Luna: Okay. Hujambo? Lucas: Sijambo. Karibu. Luna: Nataka chai ya maziwa, tafadhali. Lucas: Sawa. Hii ni chai yako. Luna: Asante. Lucas: Karibu. Perfect! You just ordered tea with milk. Luna: That felt great. And now I can order coffee too. Lucas: Absolutely.
