- 0:00Overpowered the next PTU patch. There's there's just a lot of
- 0:04incoherence with how those are being balanced right now.
- 0:10And hey. Can I?
- 0:11Let's not be right there for a second, hobo.
- 0:13Yeah, sure. I forgot to hit record.
- 0:19No, that was such a great opening.
- 0:29The thing is though, now that you say that, I can't see it.
- 0:31You're absolutely right. We're claiming.
- 0:33Let's let's talk about that first because I was going.
- 0:35To go in a totally. Different direction.
- 0:37You can make as much money as you need and work your way
- 0:40towards any ship in the game. They they were trying to cash in
- 0:44off of that nostalgia and that hype.
- 0:49Welcome, citizens to Open Comms Radio, your Star Citizen call in
- 0:54show every week Wednesday nights at 9:00 PM Eastern Time, 6:00 PM
- 1:00Pacific Time. If you're in the middle or
- 1:02someplace else, you got to figure out that time on your own
- 1:05because at this show we have trouble just figuring out how to
- 1:09hit the record button. I'm Jar Jar Jabroni and I'm your
- 1:13host here every week. And this week I have a very
- 1:15special Co host who's going to help save the day.
- 1:19That's Duke, later the second Duke.
- 1:21How you doing today? Doing good doing good jar jar.
- 1:25Oh, Duke, did you catch that? Simone Biles.
- 1:30I didn't. I didn't catch her.
- 1:32Were you watching? Gee whiz, I was watching.
- 1:36She's so good. She's the best at what she does.
- 1:37Speaking. Speaking of people, who who are
- 1:39the best? Cosmic Hobo is here.
- 1:42Cosmic Hobo, Come on up. Oh wow.
- 1:45Hey, I'm here. What do you know?
- 1:48Hey, Cosmic Hobo, thank you for joining Opencoms Radio.
- 1:52This week's question. Duke, what's this week's
- 1:54question? This week's question is can you
- 1:57smell what CI GS cooking? Wow.
- 2:02Yeah, I've had some time to think about this.
- 2:04In fact, I've rehearsed what I will say.
- 2:08Yes, I can, and I like what I smell, but do I have to do the
- 2:12cooking metaphor again? Some things you don't like what
- 2:15they smell. You know when you're cooking
- 2:18some and you're not entirely sure if you are going to like
- 2:22what the end products going to be?
- 2:24G waves. Not me.
- 2:24I don't really cook. I use no flavors.
- 2:27Yeah, none at all, right? No, but I love your cooking.
- 2:29You were great. And you too, Duke, you.
- 2:31You did a great job at the Red Scar BBQ.
- 2:33Yep, Yep, cooked in your in your little kitchen for for some
- 2:36sorties kitchen. We're doing good.
- 2:38This sounds this sounds really natural.
- 2:40Yep, very natural. There are no accidents involved
- 2:43in the production of this recording.
- 2:46I'm very I'm so happy that everything went smoothly and we
- 2:50remembered to record. Yep, so.
- 2:55So how about that PTU? Smell that smell right so.
- 3:01All right, so your your real thoughts the PTU?
- 3:05Yep. What's CI GS cooking?
- 3:07They're doing a good job. But you're thinking I think
- 3:09they're cooking. Yeah, sometimes.
- 3:10Sometimes you're cooking and doesn't smell quite right at 1st
- 3:13and you got to let it simmer. So what does CIG need to simmer
- 3:18down? What what they need to what they
- 3:20need to do here to get the sausage right.
- 3:23First, figure out the balance for fighter meta, because where
- 3:28they fit in with big ships being what they are now being
- 3:32components, pretty much components with armor and holes
- 3:35around them. So everything's based on
- 3:37components now. And so fighters, you don't have
- 3:42access to components. And fighters, see you are
- 3:44sitting in your seats, you have your magical repair buttons, but
- 3:50your components are not your weakness.
- 3:51But in a fighter, you're so small does that it doesn't make
- 3:55a lot of sense in some ways, but OK.
- 3:58But really where I'm thinking that fighters need to be figured
- 4:02out about is how they damage or lack thereof for like capital
- 4:10ships and bigger ships and medium ships.
- 4:12That's like, what kind of threat are they?
- 4:16They have said, CIG has said in the past they want them to be a
- 4:21swarm threat in a manner of speaking, but that only makes
- 4:25sense for like really big ships, because then you're, yeah,
- 4:29you're going to totally need a swarm of fighters to take down
- 4:32an interest. But then you have to ask the
- 4:34question, should they even be able to damage, say, an interest
- 4:37or a Polaris? And if so, in what ways?
- 4:41There's still. Some funkiness there.
- 4:44I think they should be only able to.
- 4:48I've heard I've had this argument with other discussion.
- 4:50Sorry this discussion with other people and other discords about
- 4:54star season before and some of them want to treat.
- 4:59Yeah, I'm going to put mine on right now just so I can throw
- 5:01them. Some people want fighters to
- 5:04have absolutely no effect on capital ships.
- 5:08Like, that's me. I'm one of those.
- 5:11If. You know what side you're on.
- 5:13I want to hit a middle ground there where they do they can
- 5:18target specific things like they should be able to strip weapon
- 5:21mounts, so like turrets, Yeah. And their attached guns.
- 5:26They should be able to get PDCS. They should be able to target
- 5:30PDCS and any. Sort of.
- 5:32I don't think they should be able to do that while the
- 5:33Shields are up. Well, no, you got to get through
- 5:36the Shields and. Right, Well, that's there you
- 5:38go. So that's why like, you know, a
- 5:40single, a single Saber or something just shouldn't be able
- 5:44to do anything unless those Shields happen to come down,
- 5:47then yeah, then they can swoop in and they can fly around and
- 5:50Ballistics. And their shield pen are just
- 5:52weird though. And that's, that's where kind of
- 5:56the segue into the second part of my big concern right now is
- 6:02with big ships is their time to kill.
- 6:06And ballistic pen, ballistic penetration in its current form,
- 6:10and I'm talking anything shooting at you with ballistic
- 6:12pen weapons is kind of overpowered right now.
- 6:17Like it 'cause if you hit a component, you're going to do
- 6:21damage to it and it smaller ships should not be able to do
- 6:28as much as they do right now in CI GS defense, I've not done.
- 6:33I've not played the most recent patch that just went live or
- 6:38onto the PTU, and I know they've been actively balancing every
- 6:43single day. And that comes back to my
- 6:45they're still cooking metaphor or their whole theme of this
- 6:48show is everything is still being changed, everything is
- 6:54still in flux. So anyone freaking out right now
- 6:58about any balance aspect needs to be quiet because it's stop.
- 7:07It's clearly happening. Just calm down.
- 7:10We we we see rebalancing happening every single PTU patch
- 7:15in some way or another. So just chill.
- 7:19Yeah, but I saw a YouTube video and and the ship blew up with
- 7:22like two shots and and this game is you don't know.
- 7:25How many people have been like Oh well I shoulders and the
- 7:28game's going to be ruined after this patch?
- 7:30Came over, man, came over. It's over.
- 7:33It's. Awful.
- 7:35I know, but yeah, that's so, yeah, those are my two things.
- 7:39Fighters, what are they? What are they doing with ships?
- 7:43And get that time to kill up like that, figure that out
- 7:47because time to kill is a big deal.
- 7:49And how ships, how they want ships to survive long enough for
- 7:55us to be able to recover them is a big deal too.
- 7:58Also, the armor implementations kind of FRAP with the way it is
- 8:02right now. I don't like it.
- 8:04Someone on Reddit said that maybe they said maybe ships
- 8:08should never blow up. I saw.
- 8:11They want to blow up. I still want them to blow up at
- 8:13some point. Yeah, I want I want my big boom.
- 8:17I want my big explosions like come on, everyone should want
- 8:19that. That's.
- 8:20Yeah, I think, I think they should blow up.
- 8:22I mean, the weapons that we're using, the, the amount of power
- 8:25they're supposed to have, obviously they're going to be
- 8:27able to blow shit up. Well, Speaking of blowing shit
- 8:32up, our next guest does that almost weekly here on Open Comms
- 8:37Radio. We're going to bring up this.
- 8:40This next guy, Duke, you know him.
- 8:42I do. You love him, you're indifferent
- 8:44to him. Oh, I'm indifferent, right?
- 8:47Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:49You know, wicked. Citizens.
- 8:55That was a real shoddy intro, Duke.
- 8:58'Cause I was expecting he usually.
- 8:59Starts talking. Before we introduce him.
- 9:02Yeah, yeah, that's that's what I I said wicked because I was
- 9:05like, shit, is he asleep? You know, I was waiting for his
- 9:09disdainful. You know, citizens.
- 9:12Yeah, long time. Yeah, we've given the occasional
- 9:17caller. You want to try it again?
- 9:20Long time listener. Last.
- 9:23Time. Dude, shit, we just we.
- 9:25Just. We just took out our audience
- 9:27for like 80%. Unbelievable.
- 9:30Unbelievable. Yeah, so wicket you've been,
- 9:35you've been playing around, you've been, you've been playing
- 9:37in Ptua little bit a trial. Can you smell what CA GS got
- 9:43cooking in PTU? Yeah, and it's like the cook got
- 9:49a little bit too close to the flame and all I can smell is
- 9:51burnt hair. Hair terrible.
- 9:56I was. I singed my eyebrows once.
- 10:01Well, then you know what I'm talking about.
- 10:03I mean, I know it's all iterative.
- 10:05Everything is changing. I, I hear what hobo was saying.
- 10:09I, I, I totally agree with what he's saying, but I still don't
- 10:13want to let him off the hook so easy because I mean, they've
- 10:16been cooking for months and months and months and months of
- 10:19talking about this stuff and, and how, how it came out the way
- 10:23it did. It was just like kind of
- 10:24disappointing, to be honest. And I know it's changing.
- 10:29It's, but then I started, I mean, I don't pay as close
- 10:34attention to some folks do. And I get a lot of my
- 10:38information from hobo from guys like Rob and kind of paying
- 10:43attention to what they're saying in the, in the, in the chat and,
- 10:48you know, and then reading a little bit about what, what,
- 10:51what's being put out in the PTU in the messaging from, from cig
- 10:56and so forth. And everything I'm thinking, you
- 11:01know, they're, they're putting all the stuff out and then
- 11:06almost every single patch we're dialing it back to 4.4 levels,
- 11:13dial this back to 4.4. It's like, what's the point?
- 11:17I'm I'm going to have a rare, I agree with you entirely there,
- 11:20Wicket. Whoa.
- 11:23Change the name of the show 4.4 You guys agree?
- 11:28It it pisses me off that they keep doing that.
- 11:32You know, it's, it's like, what's the I keep thinking to
- 11:35myself, what's the point of even having this patch if it's, if
- 11:40we're just going to go back to the previous patch with a new
- 11:44now we have a new health bar. Basically, you know, you've got
- 11:48Shields, you've got armor, you've got your bait, you know
- 11:54your structural hit points, for lack of a better word, the whole
- 11:57hit points, I guess, and. It's just three different health
- 12:01bars to. Me yeah, that's, that's kind of
- 12:05like what it seems to me. And then on top of that,
- 12:07sprinkle in components, you know, that's just another health
- 12:14bar. And and I, I mean, I, I know I,
- 12:19I'm just speaking for myself here, but I just, I don't see
- 12:23the, the, the, the, the fun of engineering.
- 12:27It's not my jam. I'm glad there are people that
- 12:30are really impressed by it and are really into it.
- 12:34Good come and go. Come on, one of my bigger ships
- 12:37because I don't want to have anything.
- 12:40To do with it, I'll be there. So your complaint is that
- 12:43there's too many health? Bars lately, well, it it just
- 12:48seems like OK, how many health bars do we need?
- 12:50You know, it's like there's layers up on layers.
- 12:54I mean, it just seems like we're going into so many different
- 12:57directions. You know, it the I don't know if
- 12:59the the, the simplicity of, you know, number go down ship go
- 13:04boom. Was that more fun?
- 13:06Was that easier to manage? Was that easier to digest?
- 13:08Now it's number go down, the next number go down, the next
- 13:12number go down. Oh, fire.
- 13:15You know, and I'm of course I'm simplifying, simplifying all
- 13:19this stuff, but that's just kind of how it plays out in my mind.
- 13:23And it's like, well, can't we just have one big health bar?
- 13:26Yeah, but we can, but we'd have to split it into three parts
- 13:32exactly. Yeah, it's shield armor.
- 13:34I think that's an important and. I see.
- 13:39Yes, I, I understand that. But in reality, really that's
- 13:43what it is. It's a health.
- 13:45Bar you. Know, I know in in it's supposed
- 13:48to be armor layers, but the way they've implemented it, that
- 13:52doesn't come. It doesn't come across like.
- 13:54I know the intention is not that.
- 13:56But that's, I do think, the armor.
- 13:57I know. The at the moment, right, like
- 13:59you said it, it's basically just another health bar.
- 14:02Like at least with shielding, right?
- 14:04I mean, it's, it's a shield. There's, there's lots of
- 14:06complexity there with, you know, charge rates and downtime and
- 14:11things like that. But you're right, the armor just
- 14:13appears to be another health bar.
- 14:17Well, you know, even even in Star Citizen, you know, let's
- 14:23look, look at the character, the player character, if he's
- 14:26wearing heavy armor, they're slower.
- 14:30You know, if they're wearing medium armor, they're a little
- 14:32bit faster. If they're wearing light armor,
- 14:34they're even faster. They're wearing no armor.
- 14:36They're super fast, but they're just a lot more.
- 14:38Fragile. And of course, even I don't, I
- 14:41think even at at I think the implementation of body armor for
- 14:46the character, for the player character isn't even that great
- 14:48at this point. I think that needs some
- 14:51tweaking. But you know, when we start
- 14:54getting into ships in in most Mmos, they have all these
- 14:59things. They have Shields, they have
- 15:01armor, they have, you know, the base health pool structure in
- 15:04this case. And, and yeah, you have to
- 15:08different different weapon types, damage, different aspects
- 15:13of your health. Pool you.
- 15:14Know your shield health pool, your, you know, your arm or
- 15:16whatever. At the end of the day, if your
- 15:19structure that upholds all that stuff, your hit points goes
- 15:22down, you know, you start losing ship integrity or your character
- 15:25starts flailing about or whatever.
- 15:27Point being is that the implementation of the damage
- 15:30model now to with all these different health pools?
- 15:33Basically it's just seems kind of, I don't know, I don't know
- 15:38how I feel about it because I haven't seen the final, whatever
- 15:41that is going to be, but the iterations I've seen now I'm I'm
- 15:45just not. I definitely think my my thought
- 15:48on armor was that it was going to make sort of what you were
- 15:52saying cosmic with it was going to put fighters in their place,
- 15:56right? Like modern day armor, right?
- 15:59Like if you go up to an M1 Abrams tank and you have, you
- 16:03know, a little a pistol that that's not going to do anything.
- 16:07It's not enough for that armor. And I kind of thought that's
- 16:10what they were going to do where, you know, a little ship's
- 16:14size 1 of size 2 weapons weren't going to get through that armor,
- 16:18or at least it was going to take a really long time.
- 16:20And it seems like that's not how it's working.
- 16:23Well, that's the point of it. That's what heavy fighters are
- 16:25for. That's what that big gun on the
- 16:28Ares and and the Stinger is. Right.
- 16:30And that's because that's the size, whatever the hell it is.
- 16:33What is that like a size seven or something gun?
- 16:38But like, did your average fighter?
- 16:39Would I? Do want to say something about
- 16:41the whole the whole the battlefield in the way, you
- 16:44know, treating small light fighters and the medium and the
- 16:48heavy and then the the capitals and subcapital ships.
- 16:52You know, again, this is supposed to be a space game and
- 16:55obviously I mean, it's kind of super unrealistic anyway because
- 17:00they're trying to do World War 2IN space just like they did in
- 17:03Star Wars, just like they did in almost every sci-fi franchise
- 17:08you can think of. It's like World War 2IN space.
- 17:10That's just not how it would ever play out to begin with.
- 17:12But this is where we're at. And even in World War 2 ships
- 17:17back in World War 2A, small fighter could do massive damage
- 17:21to A to a large capital ship. You know, it just took one
- 17:25torpedo or one shot in the in the in in the ammo magazine and
- 17:29it blew half the ship apart. That happened all.
- 17:32The time that's specialized weaponry, you know, the regular.
- 17:37Not necessarily. The regular, you know, machine
- 17:39guns on the side of a, you know, super Marine Spitfire or
- 17:43something wasn't going to take out a bat ship.
- 17:46But if you get a ship coming in with a torpedo, yeah, that
- 17:48torpedo is going to do serious damage.
- 17:52Think about the scenario right. You're you're you got an.
- 17:56Idris, I like it. The Idris is open in the front
- 17:58and the back. It's deploying fighters out
- 18:01right and a fighter gets a lucky shot and he goes right into the
- 18:07hull, inside the hull and happens to go through the
- 18:09shield. As soon as the same time a ship
- 18:11is coming through, explodes and takes the.
- 18:14Could that take the? Should that take the whole ship
- 18:15out? Could it take the whole ship
- 18:17out? Could it severely damage the
- 18:19ship because all the components for the a lot of the components
- 18:23are right inside? There, that's where the main
- 18:24reactor is. That's how Anakin Skywalker did
- 18:27it. That's right.
- 18:27I was going to say, I think I think they should Anakin him in
- 18:30that scenario. It should work.
- 18:32Because that's cool rule. Rule of Cool I.
- 18:35Will accept a little cool. There, but it's not even rule of
- 18:37cool too, right? I mean, it's, it's realistic.
- 18:41Yeah. You want.
- 18:43We've seen it in real life. Anakin did it.
- 18:46So I, I wanted to go back to armor.
- 18:48Yeah, that was real life. That was just in a Galaxy far,
- 18:51far away. So back to armor.
- 18:54Armor is the way it's implemented right now.
- 18:57It's just a damage reduction. So your light fighters against a
- 19:02ship with armor will do almost nothing from size 1 to 4
- 19:08weapons, but it those weapons will slowly chip away at said
- 19:13armor. So it does work like armor, but
- 19:19it's it's very much a gamey style right now.
- 19:22And I and it's also you hit anywhere on the ship, you'll
- 19:25lower that armor assuming Shields are down.
- 19:28So I don't like that aspect is you just hit anywhere on the
- 19:31ship and that does your whole ship's armor like that's I don't
- 19:36like that. I I think.
- 19:37I was surprised about that. Yeah, Rob and I, like some of
- 19:42our first testing was with the Perseus, and he would just shoot
- 19:46the bottom turret and it would break the bottom turret as
- 19:50expected, but it would also strip away the entire armor and
- 19:53then start doing whole damage. It's just like, OK, that doesn't
- 19:58make any sense. But I think the only solution to
- 20:01that is another game system, Maelstrom.
- 20:07Well, that's a pretty good time for you to fuck off, hobo.
- 20:12It is. I do have to fuck off early
- 20:15tonight. Well, thank you for thank you
- 20:18for stopping by Hobo and you segwayed into right into our
- 20:21next guest here who was playing with Hobo the other night.
- 20:25And maybe he can speak a little bit more as to what he smells
- 20:30here in the PTU. And if anyone else there out
- 20:33there around the world would would like to join us.
- 20:37You can call in a Wednesday nights.
- 20:38We're live on Twitch. We're, we're pretty, we're
- 20:42pretty cool. We're, we're pretty, we're
- 20:44pretty chill. And we're looking for a new
- 20:47sponsor because Cruz Lux abandoned us.
- 20:51Here I am standing up off the couch and I won the seat for you
- 20:54buddy. Brockley, Rob, welcome to Open
- 20:58Comms Radio. I'm Jar Jar Jabroni.
- 21:00I'm here today with my Co host Duke and lovely Wicket on the
- 21:03couch. This week's question Can you
- 21:06smell what CI GS got cooking and PTU?
- 21:11I absolutely can. I'm I'm pretty excited about it.
- 21:14Was testing a little bit of it. I see the vision.
- 21:18I do think there's needs to be a little bit of balance.
- 21:22Overall I I like it. OK.
- 21:26This end of show. Yeah, that's.
- 21:31Also, one thing I do want to touch on is the relation to like
- 21:36real world comparisons. I don't think that's, I think
- 21:40it's a good starting position, but I don't think it should be
- 21:43balanced based around that because I'm sure World War 2
- 21:51Navy and Air Force would love to have balance changes, you know,
- 21:55when they were fighting which. That's that's deep.
- 21:58Honestly, we kind of did already take a like, to be completely
- 22:04honest, we took a a lesson from World War 2 and we started
- 22:08nerfing ships that were ramming other ships.
- 22:10So we're taking lessons from the real world and being like,
- 22:15that's not a good idea, we shouldn't do that.
- 22:19Not a good use of resources. Yeah, so like kamikaze pilots
- 22:25are not the meta the way that they were in Imperial Japan.
- 22:32Well, the, the, the thing I was getting at with the this real
- 22:36world example is this whole idea of fighters, corvettes, you
- 22:42know, capital ships, that all stems from the starting point of
- 22:48like world, the World War Two kind of romanticized naval
- 22:54battle. But now, you know, you do it in
- 22:563D in space. That's where Lucas started with
- 22:59all his stuff. I mean, if you watch some of the
- 23:02early documentaries, they talk about that, and that's what
- 23:05almost every space game franchise has kind of gone to.
- 23:10Yeah. And again, it's a great starting
- 23:11point, but it needs to be immediately taken for the
- 23:16concept and then morphed into something that is good gameplay
- 23:21and I don't think. Yeah.
- 23:23And I don't think we're anywhere.
- 23:24Close to it was good gameplay. No, no, no, that's not what my
- 23:29intention was when I brought that up.
- 23:31What I was saying is that's where we get all this stuff
- 23:33from. This is the beginning of it.
- 23:35This is the starting of it, you know.
- 23:37But you know, and and and a lot of the the game play you see is,
- 23:41you know, big ass ship in space being strafed by a bunch of
- 23:46fighters that happened in real life, you know, aerial battles
- 23:52above the above of battlefield that happened in real life.
- 23:55That happens in these space games, but instead of above a
- 23:58battlefield, it's out in space around an asteroid field.
- 24:01You know, all these all these mechanics and all the starting
- 24:07point is is, you know, reality. And you know, a lot of it goes
- 24:11all the way back to World War 2. And you see it in, in, in
- 24:17movies, you see it in books, you see it in, in our current, you
- 24:21know, wonderful space game we all love and hate.
- 24:25Yeah, I basically what I want is I want light fighters to be a
- 24:32niche that takes out like turrets and like the Idris Roe
- 24:37gun. And then it's like, OK, good
- 24:39job, buddy. And then, you know, the big boys
- 24:41come in and start trading, you know, trading shots with each
- 24:46other. I like, I hate the meta of like,
- 24:50oh, we have, I don't know, like a Paladin.
- 24:52All right, light fighter with Panthers, we have an interest.
- 24:55Life Fighter with Panthers, we have people on the ground.
- 24:58Oh, let's get Life fighter with Panthers.
- 25:00It sucks. It's so.
- 25:02Boring and. Like we need we those.
- 25:07They need to just nerf light. I don't They need to nerf light
- 25:10fighters into the fucking ground and then build it back from
- 25:14there. Do you think weapon ranges can
- 25:16solve it? And I see this one come up a lot
- 25:19where weapon ranges need to be tied to, you know, maybe power
- 25:23plant size or something, but to stop light fighters from being
- 25:27able to kite things like the Hammerhead.
- 25:31Yeah, I, I've, I think, well, I've seen people talk about it.
- 25:34I think ranges work well. I think slowing down works well.
- 25:37But I like the idea of having to draw in fighters into like the
- 25:43danger zone. Danger Zone.
- 25:47Danger Zone. To the danger zone.
- 25:53OK, sorry. No, they never apologize for
- 25:57singing that. But then every time, like every
- 26:03time they engage a hammerhead, Hammerhead has nothing but size
- 26:06force, so they're always going to be within striking distance
- 26:10of a hammerhead. Yeah, and also, we were in the
- 26:14Hammerhead recently and it's not all it's cracked up to be.
- 26:19There's a lot of. Flats, it's been a long time.
- 26:21Yeah, you can't. It's harder to hit those tiny
- 26:24ships in that thing. And then if the pilots moving
- 26:27around like your turrets don't have good a good angle all the
- 26:32time at what do you call the rotation of them?
- 26:34But. Multi turret ships require a lot
- 26:36of coordination between the pilot and the Gunners.
- 26:40And that's, that should be just like flying the, the, the, the,
- 26:47the your fighter or any other ship.
- 26:50That's a skill that's going to have to be acquired as you do it
- 26:52more and more. It's just that for so long the
- 26:56turret meta has been such a crappy meta that and it's so
- 27:01ineffective. And now it's starting to become
- 27:04a little bit effective, like flying with Murphy in his
- 27:09Paladin and I'm on the top turret.
- 27:11I mean, we are super effective now.
- 27:13I don't know how effective we'd be in PvP, but in PV we've been
- 27:17pretty effective. And we've had, I don't know if
- 27:20we had if I was with him or somebody else when I had some
- 27:23PvP before, but it was OK. It it it didn't, it wasn't the
- 27:27greatest, but it wasn't totally ineffective either.
- 27:32The one thing I would say about the light fighter meta, I think
- 27:35the light fighter has has to have a role, OK.
- 27:40I think every, every kind of fighter needs a role, whether
- 27:44they're medium heavy or they're they're they're a sub capital or
- 27:48capital ship. I think the way the way I think
- 27:52it should be solved is we don't want to neuter the light
- 27:56fighter. We don't want to neuter any
- 27:57ship. The way you combat a light
- 27:59fighter taking out an Idris, or a couple of light fighters
- 28:03taking out an Idris, first of all you make it to where if they
- 28:06can do it, it's going to take them an ungodly amount of time.
- 28:11I mean this Idris would have to be sitting still.
- 28:14The guy at the controls of the Idris brain dead slopped over
- 28:17his console and they're just allowed to sit still and shoot
- 28:21as long as they have capacitor to shoot and that should take
- 28:24hours. In other words, what it boils
- 28:27down to is, is that the way you fix this, I think is some damage
- 28:32mitigation. In other words, most light
- 28:36fighters have what the at Max a size 4 weapon.
- 28:41Most of them are size 3, right? That's the lightest of light
- 28:45fighters, the arrows Gladius, you know the the the quote UN
- 28:49quote meta ships that are always the meta ship.
- 28:52Those should be. They should still stay super
- 28:54effective against one another and maybe medium chips to some
- 29:00extent. But since they're bringing in
- 29:02armor and this was what I thought armor was going to do,
- 29:05you know, the magic. Oh, wait till armor comes.
- 29:08It'll fix everything. And I was hoping it would fix
- 29:11most things like this and size 3 or size 4A heavily armored ship
- 29:18that's like a heavy fighter. It should take an exorbitant
- 29:21amount of hits from that light fighter to kill it, or even.
- 29:24To hit the component, I think that's the big thing because
- 29:26they were talking about light fighters wanting to hit those
- 29:28components. I think there was like a video
- 29:30back in the day about it. But even if you have armor on,
- 29:33it shouldn't be. You shouldn't be able to Pierce
- 29:34that unless maybe you have like a special.
- 29:36Gun. This is this is what I was
- 29:38saying. Your shield should be down.
- 29:40Your armor should be next to nothing.
- 29:42You know should be had been chewed away.
- 29:44The armor can't come back. The Shields can come back, you
- 29:48know, they can recharge. The armor can't recharge once
- 29:50they whittle it away. Now they have that they had that
- 29:54small hole of opportunity and they have to be super accurate
- 29:57to hit that component, you know, and that comes, you still have
- 30:02the skill aspect of piloting a light fighter.
- 30:05I think it comes down to that mitigation that somehow they
- 30:08have to to to bring some sort of Dr. damage reduction in.
- 30:12I think we're going to rename this episode Small Hole of
- 30:15Opportunity. So we got a we got a couple more
- 30:20people in the waiting room. Broccoli, Rob, I'm going to give
- 30:22you last, last day here. I was just going to say I think
- 30:26to further differentiate kind of to keep life fighters somewhat
- 30:31relevant, just have like Ballistics student almost
- 30:36nothing to armor even less than lasers, but have them have a
- 30:39chance to damage components. So that way, like if they are
- 30:44sitting there and the Idris, I don't know, solo interest guy is
- 30:48AFK, they can sit there and just like really dig in and just hold
- 30:54down left click on like while looking at a component with
- 30:57their ballistic weapon and get a chance like start a fire and
- 31:01like basically get make give them a problem.
- 31:04Like they don't have the ability to blow up their ship, but like,
- 31:07give them something that they're going to have to worry about.
- 31:12That's brilliant and that's don't think and like see a
- 31:15thieves or something because you have like different types of
- 31:17cannonballs. So you can have like fire
- 31:19cannonballs and then they have a fire to deal with.
- 31:22It's the same like concept. Yeah, make them.
- 31:25Make them helpful, but don't make them the only show in town.
- 31:31Well, do you have one helpful fight fighter or one type that's
- 31:35the like the Mantis, the Scorpion, right?
- 31:40The one that traps up the snare. The snare.
- 31:43I'm not, I'm not good with words.
- 31:45I'm not good with words. I don't know a lot of things.
- 31:47But I did manage to put together a little production value for
- 31:51the show today. We have segments now.
- 31:54This is this is our first segment.
- 31:56Yeah, yeah. And this segment is called
- 32:01Questions about Other Things. And Duke, you got the Jingle for
- 32:05it. I, I got the Jingle.
- 32:08I did. Isn't it someone?
- 32:12No, wait, that was Jeopardy. Now there's Power Rangers.
- 32:19I I don't think I have the Jingle.
- 32:22I like the Power Rangers one. We can stick with that.
- 32:24All right, the Power Rangers. This is not that song.
- 32:28Questions about other things? Yeah, there we go.
- 32:32We're going to bring up our next guest here, but instead of
- 32:34asking him our weekly question, we're going to ask our next
- 32:37guest a question about another thing.
- 32:42So our next guest into into the show is Lord Anubis.
- 32:46Lord Anubis, you can bring yourself on up here.
- 32:50Lord Anubis, welcome to open comms radio.
- 32:52I'm Jar Jar Jabroni. I'm here with my Co host Duke
- 32:56later the 2nd and my good friends Broccoli Robin Wickett.
- 32:59We're all wondering why are S S DS always like 3.89 terabytes
- 33:05and like 1.91 terabytes, but not just like 4?
- 33:08Terabytes because you have boot sectors that you're and also
- 33:18lead insurance. And then also you do got to have
- 33:21to remember that when you partition, you do have that data
- 33:26that is used up for that as well.
- 33:29You know, so you there there's quite a bit of of space that is
- 33:33lost to that, plus also the conversion from bits to bytes.
- 33:40So am I getting ripped off? No.
- 33:46I feel like we're getting ripped off.
- 33:48I feel, I feel like I'm getting ripped off.
- 33:50So you've heard it here, folks. No, they're selling.
- 33:52From Lord and Ubis they're selling.
- 33:54You RAW. They're selling you the raw,
- 33:58unformatted, unpartitioned, unallocated.
- 34:02Yeah, that just sounds like false advertising.
- 34:04And also also Windows, since we're most of all of us are
- 34:09Windows. Windows calculates a TB, a GB, a
- 34:12MB differently in from other. Sources.
- 34:18So I bought a four terabyte hard drive SSD and I only have 3.63
- 34:23but there there's like nothing on it.
- 34:26Well, there's, there's partitions.
- 34:28You have a, you have a, you know your, you know, your file system
- 34:35that's in there. So when you format to NTFS or
- 34:39FAT 32, if you just really want to hurt yourself, you know when
- 34:44you do that, then you know you're, you're actually writing
- 34:48data to the disk that you know, basically, you know, encodes how
- 34:51all the data is going to get, you know, all the stored data is
- 34:54going to get arranged. But it had, but it has to write
- 34:57data to the disk to set all that.
- 34:59You know, like what's called scaffolding up.
- 35:05Well, this has been questions about other things.
- 35:11Going to be a semi weekly second jar jar.
- 35:13Ask questions to looking for answers for for things that that
- 35:18he's just not sure about. So it could be some hardware
- 35:20questions. I thought it was just.
- 35:22Might be how to pick up strangers at the airports, you
- 35:26know, just whatever whatever's rolling around in his head.
- 35:29What arm do I use? It's alien technology and we
- 35:34just don't know how it works. Well, our new abyss.
- 35:38Well Lord Anubis, thank you for joining Opencoms Radio today.
- 35:41We have a regular question for you and that is can you smell
- 35:45what CI GS got cooking in PTU? I mean, they're just, they're
- 35:52just adding subsystems basically like an elite, you know, some
- 35:59effect. What is that?
- 36:01Do it again. Blast, Shut up.
- 36:04But yeah, I mean, look, if you pop someone's power plant, an
- 36:08elite like you can target the power.
- 36:09Plant pop and pop, power plant and what baby?
- 36:13You know, and that does happen in PvP and sometimes it you
- 36:18know, but there's there's other reasons why not to just go
- 36:20straight out to their power plant.
- 36:21It's a little harder to hit sometimes so.
- 36:23You got to go around them. You got to start.
- 36:26Start. You got to start.
- 36:27Start as far away from the power plant as you can.
- 36:30That's what I usually go with. Yeah, maybe send them a comms
- 36:33message first, you know? Yeah, talk to.
- 36:36Them for a little bit. So that's all they're adding.
- 36:40They're just they're just adding more, as you said, more health
- 36:43bars. You know, some are more critical
- 36:47than others. Some will have different effects
- 36:49than others. So you can knockout Shields, you
- 36:52can knockout engines, you could knockout weapons, who knows?
- 36:56You know, I mean there's reasons to do that.
- 36:58You know, sometimes you're not, you know, you're not going to be
- 37:02able to hit that hole, but you can target Shields and then have
- 37:05someone else hit that hole, you know, So I mean, like it, it
- 37:08does lend to strategy. However, it it, this is a game
- 37:15that's incredibly complicated to create dynamics for for some
- 37:19reason, I still don't get it. I mean, there's plenty of other
- 37:25models out there to copy. I don't think that you can
- 37:29really technically copy anything because everything is a copy of
- 37:32a copy of a copy from going back 20, 30 years, 40 years of video
- 37:38games. So you know.
- 37:41But CIG likes to reinvent everything.
- 37:45Yeah, but they're they're also and then.
- 37:47Realize their reinvention isn't up to par and then scale it back
- 37:50to something that already exists.
- 37:52Yeah, and and and that that's that's The thing is that your
- 37:58question? Can I smell what CIG is cooking?
- 38:01Cig can't smell what CIG is cooking.
- 38:05They don't know yet. Burn they don't know yet.
- 38:10So so you're you're hypothesizing that they have no
- 38:13plan. They have no menu, No.
- 38:15Recipe they they have a system in place and they'll figure it
- 38:19out later. They don't know what they're
- 38:21doing yet. This is this is I mean the
- 38:25flight model come on, the flight model.
- 38:28I mean, they still don't know what they're doing.
- 38:31Yeah, it's not finalized. They have plans, but is that
- 38:35going to be the last one or how many times it going to get
- 38:37redesigned master modes, whether or not like Ballistics work in
- 38:43game, which has been a long time since Ballistics has been
- 38:47important at all. And, you know, I mean, these are
- 38:51these are things that they constantly just kind of throw
- 38:54into the air and change Willy nilly.
- 38:56And you know, I mean, from one year to the next, they got a
- 39:01different vision and. I don't know about that.
- 39:05It feels that feels like such like a a tired argument.
- 39:09But it is, it, is it. Can it be tired?
- 39:12I mean, if it's been this long and it's still going on, yeah.
- 39:17I mean, I think I think. It's not going.
- 39:19On I think the argument there. Is the way you're describing it.
- 39:21You're you're looking at it. It's iterative, right?
- 39:26Their, their viewpoint and their plan all along is that it's
- 39:29going to be iterative and it. I'll get the great example of
- 39:32his weapons balance and the flight model.
- 39:36I don't think those two things will ever be both finalized.
- 39:41Yeah, as long as people are playing the.
- 39:42Thing they will. Be changing those things it it
- 39:45won't be I mean as far as like little things here and there
- 39:48like they'll always be oh you know we've this patch we decided
- 39:51to you know, tweak, you know, heavy fighters or something
- 39:54like. That tweak it but.
- 39:56Not like. It's.
- 39:57Just it's just going to be introducing, introduce one new
- 40:01ship, which you know, they're bound to be introducing ships
- 40:03left, right and center. Introduce a new weapon or a new
- 40:07something a little bit faster. As soon as that happens, you're
- 40:10going to have to rejigger everything.
- 40:12You're going to have to balance. And that's just part of.
- 40:16Yeah. And then that's the thing.
- 40:17You know, it's just a small indie company.
- 40:19I mean it. Takes time.
- 40:21I mean, that's the thing. It's it's they've got a system
- 40:25in place, but even they don't know where it is going to go.
- 40:29Yeah. I think they have plans they
- 40:31have. Plans Brock Brock They even in
- 40:35the PTU. They have plans.
- 40:37They're not, they're not sharing everything with us.
- 40:40I think that our concept of like what their plans are is not a
- 40:46good idea of what their plans are.
- 40:50Like we've seen, we've seen like what the modern iteration of
- 40:54what engineering is looking like.
- 40:57It's looking good. It's looking like the next step.
- 41:00And I feel like to say to look at it be like, no, they don't
- 41:03know what they're doing. Actually, it's just like, I
- 41:05don't know how long we've been doing this for.
- 41:08Like they've shown that they're like getting better.
- 41:11They're they're a different company than we're in 2016.
- 41:13Like we can always say like, oh, CID is dumb.
- 41:15CID doesn't know what they're doing.
- 41:17But like, doesn't that ever get boring?
- 41:19The do you never feel like it's like not relevant still like
- 41:24it's not the same company it was 10 years ago?
- 41:27I feel like it's not relevant because everyone keeps buying
- 41:29ships and playing the game anyway.
- 41:32Exactly. So it's like a fun little like
- 41:34fun joke to make, but like in a serious conversation, like, do
- 41:38you, do people actually think that?
- 41:42I'm sorry, was was anything I say I'm not.
- 41:45One of them, but. I don't know.
- 41:48I don't. Know, I mean, it's it feels like
- 41:50when it's like they don't know what they're doing, they don't
- 41:52know this, they don't know that it's like.
- 41:54Not what I'm doing, I said. They don't know where they're
- 41:57going with this yet, yeah. They don't.
- 42:02They they don't have AI mean to some extent that is true that
- 42:05they don't have a they don't. Say they don't know what they're
- 42:07doing. I mean, they obviously know how
- 42:08to build a game and systems. They don't know where this is
- 42:11going to lead to yet. I mean, they may, they may have.
- 42:14However. Yeah.
- 42:15You have a plan. You have a concept of a plan.
- 42:19You you have a thought of a concept of a plan.
- 42:21New systems you introduce larger and larger things you introduce
- 42:25crafting. All of this stuff has to change
- 42:28like it will change. It is a system in place, but
- 42:32even they don't know how it's going to evolve because they
- 42:35can't. No one really can know because
- 42:39because it it, it reacts between the community versus features
- 42:42versus new gameplay. It all has to change every time.
- 42:46And there's no way for them to plan out.
- 42:48OK, well, by this year we're going to have all of this
- 42:52perfectly set in stone because they can't.
- 42:53They can't. They can't possibly say that.
- 42:56And they say they don't know what they're doing and said they
- 42:58don't know where it's going yet. I mean, they probably, I mean,
- 43:01they have a plan, right? They've got an idea of what they
- 43:03want to do. But I think as they bring on
- 43:06these, these massive new systems and put them in front of all
- 43:10these, these crazy people who we meet online in the verse, that's
- 43:16going to give them some feedback.
- 43:17And it it's definitely going to evolve over time.
- 43:23Yeah, Speaking of evolving. I will say this.
- 43:26All right, wiki last word. Let's let them talk.
- 43:29Go ahead, let the Guild master talk.
- 43:31Oh, very good, very good. So our our next guest here on
- 43:33Open Comms Radio is Murphy Jack. Murphy Jack, you know what's
- 43:38going on? This week's question Can you
- 43:40smell what CI GS got cooking in PTU?
- 43:45Hello. Yeah.
- 43:46I mean, yeah, it is. It seems like it's very much in
- 43:52flux from when I played with Rob and Hobo last.
- 43:57And now I think it it this is definitely a step in the right
- 44:04direction. But one thing that was worrying
- 44:08me, but I see they're addressing it now was like the time to kill
- 44:13and like you guys were saying, the light fighter meta and all
- 44:16this. I I just feel like eventually
- 44:20they're just going to have to switch turret weapons to be
- 44:26different from the rest of them because they've shortened the
- 44:31distances already, but it's still like not enough.
- 44:37You know what, you know what I mean?
- 44:38Like the turret has taken. Up the fighters too quickly.
- 44:43And PvP fighters are still like it's it makes more sense to have
- 44:49two people and two fighters versus 2 people.
- 44:53And like the paladin, you still the the weapon projectile speed
- 45:01is still low enough where they can sit out at the at the fringe
- 45:04of the effective range and you just cannot hit them.
- 45:10It's just, it's just hard. And I'm talking strictly PVPI
- 45:13mean PV, like we could said earlier, we were doing really
- 45:17well, but that's Pve. But I just feel like everybody
- 45:20has said it a ton of times. Make turret weapons like
- 45:25different, make projectile speed faster, make them dangerous.
- 45:29I mean, there's somebody show up in an arrow and they see a
- 45:33pallid and they shouldn't be like, well, this will be easy.
- 45:37You know, there's just a Bob and a pallid and like I'm going to
- 45:40take them out. So isn't that what the armor is?
- 45:43My worry with it? I don't I our original
- 45:50understanding of armor is not what is in there now.
- 45:54I I didn't I didn't think armor was just a second health bull or
- 45:59that's what it was going to be. That's what it seems like it is,
- 46:02but you know it it make you're gonna you're you're putting more
- 46:10people on these bigger ships now and you're gonna be running
- 46:15around doing stuff in a in a fight.
- 46:17And I'm talking particularly PvP and all this and you're gonna be
- 46:20running all around in a fight. So you now you've gone from, you
- 46:24know the paladin being the two person.
- 46:26Well yeah, I mean two person to to have three people but still
- 46:33get takes out taken out by an arrow.
- 46:35That's I just in this current iteration, we're still like sort
- 46:40of wasting some people's time by going out in a big ship to a
- 46:46light frighter furball with people that know what they're
- 46:50doing. I just that that's to me needs
- 46:53to be addressed. You need to make it fun to be in
- 46:57that big ship in a PvP situation.
- 47:02Not everybody's PvP, but you know, we all ended up
- 47:06gravitating towards it, right? So you need to make it a little
- 47:09more enjoyable to be on this big ship in a PvP situation versus I
- 47:16got this life writer buzzing me and we're just going to die like
- 47:19a madness in an arrow and a paladin.
- 47:21They interdict a paladin. There's no way that they should
- 47:25just be able to pick apart the paladin.
- 47:27Easy peasy. The paladin should be able to
- 47:29put up a fight and win if the people are competent.
- 47:36Well, I think there's, there's two parts there.
- 47:37If there's the the weapons, the turrets that you can change and
- 47:41enhance like make them stronger, make them shoot farther or not
- 47:46far or not near enough or there. Faster.
- 47:49The armor well, or you have the armor where there's smaller
- 47:52ships just aren't going to Pierce the.
- 47:54Armor real quick, like there was a time that just the guy and I
- 48:01would take the Hurricane and we would put Singes off of a banner
- 48:05defender on it. Those things were like almost
- 48:08like a hit scan in terms of the I forgot how fast they shot, but
- 48:13it's like 5000 meters a second or something.
- 48:15It was like, you know, and in reference, Rhinos repeaters are
- 48:191600. So these things like boom, they
- 48:22shot and we were taking people out left and right like easily
- 48:28because we could just sit. We didn't have to, we didn't
- 48:30have to keep closing the gap to be effective.
- 48:32He could sit out, we could sit at like 1.5 kilometers and just
- 48:36light these people up sort of, well, you know, I say easy, but
- 48:40there is still quite a bit of skill involved with it.
- 48:44You had to, you had to time the shots and all that.
- 48:49So it's like that. It showed us that it's possible
- 48:52and it's there, but just they got to do something.
- 48:57Well, I mean, when when we're talking about, you know, ideas
- 49:01of having large fleet battles and things like that, I mean, we
- 49:05talk about World War 2 and space or Star Wars or whatever.
- 49:10You know, you have your fighters and the fighters are a threat to
- 49:13capital ships and that's why they have to bring their own
- 49:16fighters. And that's what makes it a fleet
- 49:18battle. And that that's kind of like, I
- 49:21see the difficulty in trying to encourage that style of
- 49:24gameplay, but like than we facing the reality that it's
- 49:28largely just two people, you know, encountering each other.
- 49:34It shouldn't, don't take it in. I'm saying like it should be
- 49:36impossible to take this ship out, right?
- 49:39What I'm getting at is it shouldn't be a no win situation
- 49:4498% of the time because they're just gonna out.
- 49:48They're just gonna sit at your fringe and you're not gonna be
- 49:50able to hit them 'cause that's the, that's the reality of it
- 49:52right now. That's what everybody talks
- 49:54about. That's why there's nobody in
- 49:56multiker ships. There's hardly anybody even
- 49:59running a Hurricane or Scorpius right now.
- 50:02Yeah. PvP, Yeah.
- 50:05Is this thing back to the previous flight model where we
- 50:07used to be in Hurricanes and Distorpiuses?
- 50:10Remember. I mean that during the
- 50:11distortion meta, it was like it was there, it was possible just
- 50:17because I fly, but. And, and the weapons, you know,
- 50:21they all had distinct and, and very real, you know, differences
- 50:27in how they affected the other players.
- 50:29And, and that's something that we haven't had in a long time.
- 50:32And how I mean that that that definitely has to, has to really
- 50:38come back. I I I think just to add more
- 50:41depth. It's well depth, right?
- 50:45Something else that worried me with this whole thing.
- 50:48Well, not, not so much worried, but kind of was like, man, I
- 50:51hope they get this out back in like what 310 whatever you used
- 50:57to be able to over clock components.
- 50:59There's a section you could over clock them.
- 51:01I remember. You got more like the I feel
- 51:06like a lot of us, I don't want to speak for everybody, but I
- 51:08feel like a lot of us talked about the tuning aspect of
- 51:12engineering, like, hey, you know, I got a good shot.
- 51:15Give me give me over clock my weapons or, you know, and run
- 51:19the risk of lighting your components on fire.
- 51:24Like that sort of thing is going to make it even more like
- 51:28enjoyable to be engineer because as it is right now, like it's
- 51:34going to be fun to an extent, you know, running around doing
- 51:37fires and stuff. But in order for it to like be
- 51:43really neat, like and share these presets that you can save,
- 51:48imagine overclocking and tuning your ship and like, Hey, I got
- 51:51this awesome tune for your, for your ship.
- 51:53Just click this if you get lined up for a good shot or, or click
- 51:57this if you, you know, you're in the ship and you know you're
- 52:01going out and constantly like tweaking cooling values or
- 52:05shield values, shield faces. I mean, you can do shield faces
- 52:08on bigger ships, but just think of all that, like engineers
- 52:12watching what's happening to the ship more than just, oh, shit,
- 52:15this is on fire or there's fire here.
- 52:18Oh, I got to repair this. You could have crafted and
- 52:22modded components. You know, I'm an engineer.
- 52:26I can tune this engine up to be 10% more efficient without
- 52:29losing the, you know, the heat problem or whatever, you know,
- 52:33or you know, hey, I can get the I, I know how to over clock
- 52:36these Shields without, you know, draining more power.
- 52:40You know, I mean, there's a there you can put a little
- 52:42percentage of every little tiny thing on your own little thing
- 52:45and get it purring. Yeah.
- 52:48And I think, I mean, they have talked about it.
- 52:50So I'm sure they intend to do something to this extent.
- 52:53And I know we're in the very beginning stages of getting
- 52:55engineered alive, so they get a pass, but like this, this sort
- 53:00of stuff needs to be, you know, cooking.
- 53:05Right. It's good to talk about it.
- 53:06It's good to. Be.
- 53:08Get everyone talking about it, get the feedback, get the ideas.
- 53:11I mean they they're listening. I'm sure CI GS listening in
- 53:15right now 'cause they. Know what they're.
- 53:18Listening right now, you know they see.
- 53:19In the room with us. Right now.
- 53:21And they did listed like the turret change or the, well, not
- 53:24turret changes, but the, the weapon range changes.
- 53:28And I was optimistic at the start of it, but after getting
- 53:30in and playing with it a little bit, it's like, well, it's,
- 53:34it's, it's better, but it's still not there.
- 53:38And I just, that's why I say, like everybody talks about make
- 53:41turret weapons different from ship weapons.
- 53:44But I understand that, you know, that's would be a really big
- 53:48undertaking the way they have everything built.
- 53:53Yeah, yeah, this is a big, big old PTU patch.
- 53:58They got a lot going on in in this one, which is pretty cool
- 54:00for the end of the year to be honest.
- 54:03You know, usually if I don't remember call last year, if we
- 54:07were as had had as much to talk about at the end of the year as
- 54:14we do this year, it seems, but someone who has some maybe some
- 54:20new insights, something new to talk about.
- 54:22First time caller of the show is going to join our guests on the
- 54:26couch. On the couch today we have
- 54:27Murphy Jack, we have Lord Anubis, we have broccoli Rob
- 54:31Wickett, my Co host Duke. Later the second I'm Jar Jar
- 54:34Jabroni, and joining us on Open Comms Radio for the first time
- 54:38ever is Crotch Mullet. What's radio?
- 54:44Well, thanks for having me. I want to put my Oh, thank you.
- 54:48I want to put my two cents in here.
- 54:51I have no idea what's going on in Star Citizens, so I just know
- 54:56last time I was on here, Broccoli Rob led me to fig Tree.
- 55:00We got some worm teeth. Murphy Jack shot 6 people in one
- 55:05little plate. It was impressive.
- 55:07Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. In game.
- 55:08No, that was in DC. Yeah.
- 55:12So. I'm going to have to edit that
- 55:14out now. They're they're.
- 55:16Listening in but I have an idea. Does everyone know like this
- 55:24show, Comedians, cars getting coffee.
- 55:26It's just the title's good. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:30What is this? Comedians in cars drinking
- 55:33coffee. It's just Jerry Seinfeld
- 55:35grabbing random people in cars and just talking.
- 55:39How about? You guys should kidnap people
- 55:42and. Let him, let him speak, Let him
- 55:44speak. Or, well, that could be one part
- 55:47of it, but like maybe getting people to come pick you up in
- 55:51their ship, putting the paint they have or whatever, and then
- 55:55start a conversation. But now that you guys are
- 55:57talking about all this, how about trying to get some
- 56:00cigarettes to come pick you up and talk about things?
- 56:03That'd be pretty sweet. Well, they're listening,
- 56:07apparently. Hey guys, they're listening.
- 56:10So Yens, Yens, can you, Can you maybe help us out there?
- 56:15Just take us around Yella or something.
- 56:19Yeah. Or what about Wicket?
- 56:21What you would like citizens and ships getting Lux?
- 56:24Oh nice. Crouch your mouth this really
- 56:29balls of you have your first appearance on the show and tell
- 56:33and just tell us to do a different show.
- 56:34Drop that bomb. No, no no.
- 56:36This would not even harm your live thing.
- 56:38This would be a separate sister thing that you don't do.
- 56:40Live another day. Never Wednesday.
- 56:43You never. Yeah, you stayed.
- 56:45Sacred. Oh, it'd be it'd be a whole
- 56:48another. We'd have to do it on another
- 56:50day. Well, what?
- 56:50What about Friday? Not everything needs to be live
- 56:55streamed. Some of it can just be.
- 56:58Oh, this would definitely have just.
- 56:59Put on like a like a special. I have a a question that maybe
- 57:05you guys can help me with. It's part of our new segment
- 57:09questions about other things. How long should jar jar put his
- 57:14leftovers in the micro? No, dude, dude, you're supposed
- 57:16to do this. This theme song.
- 57:18Oh, what was the IT? Was Power Rangers.
- 57:22It was Power Rangers. I can't remember how the Power
- 57:25Rangers theme goes. It goes down.
- 57:35OK, Power Rangers. Questions about other things but
- 57:40when CIG does the newsletter it says like Thursday and like free
- 57:47Jatag. What is that and why do they do
- 57:51that? Because we asking crotch mullet
- 57:55or. I'll ask crotch mullet first.
- 57:59Oh, I I'm lost. I have no idea.
- 58:02Well, you know, skip Thursday. You ever heard of Thursday?
- 58:07Yeah. That's.
- 58:09Thursday. No, I know what days course but.
- 58:12Days of the week were named. After the gods of.
- 58:15Thermology, yes. Monday.
- 58:18Sunday, that's the moon and the sun.
- 58:23Tuesday, that is. Yeah.
- 58:27Wednesday is for Leo Adams. No.
- 58:33So then once. Then it was a different day.
- 58:38Well, you learn something new everyday.
- 58:43Speaking of learning new things, I learned that the Vandual
- 58:47models are very big and pretty cool and pretty neat.
- 58:53I'll say a lot of what I've been doing when I've been jumping in
- 58:56the game is being like oh that's neat.
- 59:01I don't know if anyone else has a similar feeling.
- 59:06I don't, I don't know that that whole like slugging down the
- 59:10throat of the of that one vandal ship is a little disconcerting.
- 59:18Why is that? It just, oh, I don't know, it
- 59:22just feels like you're being eaten by the ship or something
- 59:27like that. It's just.
- 59:29Gross. It's neat.
- 59:31It's just, you know, through esophagus.
- 59:35I'm serious. I think it's been a lot of neat
- 59:37stuff every, every patch because they're putting out content.
- 59:40It's neat. And then, you know, you
- 59:44supposedly have this new single player game coming, coming down
- 59:46the pipe next year, What video game awards are like tomorrow.
- 59:52What's the? Squadron 42.
- 59:54What's that? I've never heard of that.
- 59:56It's like it's like Grand Theft Auto in space.
- 59:59OK, cool. Yes, it's actually like Star Fox
- 1:00:02in space. Do a barrel roll.
- 1:00:06Yeah, if you think about Squadron 4/2 is basically
- 1:00:10basically seems like it's just like, yeah, contemporary Star
- 1:00:12Fox because Nintendo couldn't do it.
- 1:00:15It dropped the ball too many times.
- 1:00:18Yeah, because you'd get it. Yeah, so, but all the all the
- 1:00:22set pieces, all of the environments, all of the, the,
- 1:00:27the stuff that isn't like mechanical stuff, that isn't
- 1:00:29like, you know, features and stuff, it's all, it's all pretty
- 1:00:34neat. The worm, the tanks, crotch Moet
- 1:00:38back me up here. Yeah.
- 1:00:40No. I think since I've been gone
- 1:00:44I've missed out on a lot of stuff and now that I'm back I'm
- 1:00:47more like, I've been playing with Wicked and I've been owing
- 1:00:51and awing and he's just been like, no.
- 1:00:53No, don't do it all. Don't you do that?
- 1:00:58Yeah, see, I think a lot of this bitterness comes from these old
- 1:01:02men who are play this game like every day.
- 1:01:06Shots fired. If if you just fuck took a
- 1:01:09break, you know. If you just.
- 1:01:13Cut some, touch some grass, you know.
- 1:01:16And Wicked. Let me enjoy the magic.
- 1:01:18Just just let me enjoy it. I mean, I don't get to play as
- 1:01:22much as I did have been working a lot.
- 1:01:24But like I will say, like some of the last couple times I've
- 1:01:28been playing Wicket was there ever, but I think everybody here
- 1:01:32was there, maybe not crotch mullet, but engaging over at the
- 1:01:38at the worm and that other org just dropping ichtes left and
- 1:01:42right. Oh, that was hell.
- 1:01:44That was awesome. Is this the last time we went?
- 1:01:48Because yeah, that's what I was talking.
- 1:01:50About listen that that that event, that event brought to
- 1:01:53light that I had had a severe problem in my computer and it's
- 1:01:56cost me a, a probably $5000. Oh yeah, my Moran, that seems.
- 1:02:01Like a lot. That that that worm, that worm
- 1:02:04event sucked. You needed another 30-2 gigs of
- 1:02:08DDR5. No.
- 1:02:12It's all grand I. Won't get into it here, but
- 1:02:15let's just say. Did you need to buy a shed to
- 1:02:18put your computer? In I was.
- 1:02:21I swiped when I shouldn't. Have oh I should just swiped
- 1:02:23left. In any event, in any event,
- 1:02:30crotch Muller, I'll tell, I'll tell you this.
- 1:02:32I'll make this promise to you once 4.5 comes out and we have
- 1:02:36this, this whole magical, you know, wonderful engineering
- 1:02:42experience. I'll make sure you're down in
- 1:02:44the dungeon of engineering and you can experience all the magic
- 1:02:48you want on any of my engineering requires Sexual.
- 1:02:52That's a promise. I'll be like, oh, what does this
- 1:02:55button do? I'm just turning.
- 1:02:56Around Oh my God, I'm. Going to give you.
- 1:02:59Dexter's last vibe. Yeah, he's going to have the the
- 1:03:02engineering suit with the zipper.
- 1:03:04Oh God. There there is one thing that I
- 1:03:07don't know if it's been addressed on here yet or not,
- 1:03:10but there's one person here that spent more during A i.e.
- 1:03:14IAE than the rest of us. God damn.
- 1:03:19Oh really? All the poo poo and all the all
- 1:03:22the, you know, dream destroying comes from Yeah, somebody that
- 1:03:29spent more money on IE than. The.
- 1:03:32Rest of us combined the soul. Question What'd you buy?
- 1:03:35Wicked. Why are you pointing fingers at
- 1:03:39me right away? Listen, listen, listen.
- 1:03:45I'm the biggest space hypocrite there is.
- 1:03:48I know. I'm always the the first guy to
- 1:03:52throw cold water on the Star Citizen flame of innovation.
- 1:03:57It's all. Right.
- 1:03:57So the the wicket, wicket. You're just going to be throwing
- 1:04:00out money left and right. I, I, I, I.
- 1:04:03You track orders, phasers. You want a lightsaber?
- 1:04:06How about a suit of armor? Share with us then share with us
- 1:04:10this light share with us the little light that keeps your
- 1:04:13wallet opening up. What is it about the game?
- 1:04:16Despite all these the problems that that you bring up on the
- 1:04:20show here, what keeps you coming back I.
- 1:04:23Just. Just keep it positive.
- 1:04:24So what is it? What's the secret?
- 1:04:27Well, you know, I'm a big, I'm a I'm a Drake fan and the, the
- 1:04:31Drake Clipper just spoke to me. I don't know why, sorry.
- 1:04:34I could see you bathing on a cling.
- 1:04:37Oh yeah. Like, I just love the whole
- 1:04:40aesthetic of it. And then and then Stupid Autumn,
- 1:04:45she's like going on and on and on about the wolf.
- 1:04:48And then we had the show where we realized the real name of the
- 1:04:52wolf is a wolf. I couldn't resist, so I had to
- 1:04:55get that. Makes better.
- 1:05:00So you're here. You're here for the lols, Is
- 1:05:02that what you're saying? And it, and it was I, I didn't,
- 1:05:06I, I don't like to, to melt stuff.
- 1:05:09I just, you know, I did melt. I got a gift from another guildy
- 1:05:14because I got him something in the real life and he decided,
- 1:05:17oh, I had to, he had to gift me something in games.
- 1:05:19So he gave to me one of those MTCS that several months ago I
- 1:05:23did upgrade that to something one of those ships.
- 1:05:26So it wasn't all new money. But then I'm not even going to
- 1:05:31say it. I bought.
- 1:05:32Oh. Three things.
- 1:05:35Javelin. Yeah, I bought.
- 1:05:37No, I bought the thing with the new gun with the new, the little
- 1:05:42car with the new gun. On Oh my word, I didn't even
- 1:05:47know about this one. Oh, I'm telling all myself.
- 1:05:52What are you going to do with that thing?
- 1:05:55Take the gun off and put it on a ship.
- 1:06:00Oh no, dude, you have a problem. I do.
- 1:06:04I remember there there were the good old days when you wicked on
- 1:06:07was only flying the Avenger, the Penguin.
- 1:06:11The the the Avenger Titan is you know, I, I used to rail at
- 1:06:16people any that that that bought anything besides.
- 1:06:19And your resolve was so strong that when we made shirts to go
- 1:06:24to Los Angeles, Murphy put the little Penguin on everyone's
- 1:06:30shirt in honor of Wicket, who could not be swayed to to
- 1:06:35purchase tickets or or new ships.
- 1:06:41Yep. Lo and behold.
- 1:06:44Everybody's just calling me out, left, right.
- 1:06:45I mean, I mean, it's embarrassing.
- 1:06:48It's not the substance, it's usually the addiction part of
- 1:06:51it. So he was a spice addict as of a
- 1:06:53couple months ago and now you're addicted to war bonds?
- 1:07:01It just goes to show that like we bitch about CIG all the time
- 1:07:05and like, oh, it's taking forever and blah blah blah blah,
- 1:07:08right, all this stuff, but it went.
- 1:07:09Probably down to it. When it comes down to it, look
- 1:07:14what we're doing like we're we're here.
- 1:07:17We're here for the long haul, right?
- 1:07:19What they do? I, I, I, you know, despite you
- 1:07:23my, my negative out outlook at times, I will say this, this,
- 1:07:27this. I see the potential.
- 1:07:30I see the dream. I want to be in that dream.
- 1:07:33I don't want it to be a nightmare, though.
- 1:07:36Not only that, I look, you know, I, I was looking at the funding
- 1:07:39dashboard again. Now we're at 148 million.
- 1:07:42We'll probably hit 150 before the end of the month for this
- 1:07:45year. All right, Then I start thinking
- 1:07:48about what? Yeah, that does sound like a lot
- 1:07:50of money, right? You know, we're almost, we're
- 1:07:52over 900 million and since 2012 of, of funding, that's just in
- 1:07:58funding, not investment by, by by financial folk, but actual
- 1:08:05game backers, players, us. That's how much we've
- 1:08:08contributed. And you know, truth be told,
- 1:08:12that's a lot of money, obviously.
- 1:08:14But then when you think about it, look at some, look at a
- 1:08:17company like Blizzard Entertainment, they make
- 1:08:21multiple billions a year in revenue.
- 1:08:27If you look at Activision Blizzard, they make you know, 3
- 1:08:30or $4 billion a year. Now, we don't know exactly what
- 1:08:33they make now anymore because they've been purchased by
- 1:08:35Microsoft and this another line item on theirs on the on their
- 1:08:40financial sheet. But I didn't you know Rockstar,
- 1:08:45they make probably close to a billion a year just on one
- 1:08:48title. So yes, a lot of money has been
- 1:08:53invested. Yes, you know, I'm a sucker for
- 1:08:56pretty spaceships, yes, I'm a hypocrite, yes.
- 1:09:00But the end of the day, I still get into this game almost every
- 1:09:05day. When I don't take long breaks
- 1:09:07and I have some fun, I do something that's fun, it's
- 1:09:11rewarding, and it keeps me coming back.
- 1:09:14And not only that, you know, I have this shared delusion with
- 1:09:18this Guild. We're all in the, in the, in on.
- 1:09:22And we all, you know, we're the, the, the Guild keeps me coming
- 1:09:29back. And, and, and I think that's a
- 1:09:33good thing. You know, I think it's a good
- 1:09:35thing. I think this community, we've,
- 1:09:37we've, we've all participated in the red score nomads or Guild
- 1:09:43that we've created or org, whatever you want to call it,
- 1:09:46whatever makes you happy. I think it's, it's a positive
- 1:09:49thing. And you know I'm glad to be a
- 1:09:51part of it, no matter how much fun of you make of me for
- 1:09:56spending stupid money. All right, so I'm going to go
- 1:10:00around. I'm going to ask everyone one
- 1:10:02question. But before we, you know, reach
- 1:10:05toward the end here, that question is if you weren't
- 1:10:08playing, spending all this time playing Star Citizen, what would
- 1:10:12you be doing? We're going to start.
- 1:10:15Let's start with Wicket. If I wasn't playing Star Citizen
- 1:10:22all the time, I'd probably be playing some other MMO or maybe
- 1:10:27spending more time in my real life hobby of astrophotography,
- 1:10:31or probably just working more because I work from home.
- 1:10:36So, you know, I have a lot of disposable income.
- 1:10:40I have a lot of disposable time. I could be doing anything I want
- 1:10:43but I keep coming back to to my space nightmare.
- 1:10:47Lord Nubis, if you were if. Hopefully it's a space.
- 1:10:50Frame Lord Nubis, if you weren't playing this, what would you be
- 1:10:52doing? Same thing I do every night, try
- 1:10:57to take out dumpkin. You know, most of the time I'm,
- 1:11:03you know, like working on electronics, making electronics.
- 1:11:05A lot of time when I'm playing I'm doing that as well.
- 1:11:08You know, if we're going on a long thing, I'll just solder a
- 1:11:11couple things here or there. So I'd probably do that more
- 1:11:13often and just I, you know, I do carve out time for the game, but
- 1:11:25not, you know, I mean, I, I don't, I don't really think that
- 1:11:30much would change if I, if I didn't have it, except for not
- 1:11:33having the friends that I, you don't have right here, you know,
- 1:11:38with, with all of you. So I, I, I guess if I didn't
- 1:11:43have this game, I would be missing that part of my life.
- 1:11:47Gay. Murphy, Jack, if you weren't
- 1:11:51playing this game, what would you be doing?
- 1:11:54It's tough because this has taken over such a huge part of
- 1:11:58my life. Like I before this, I was did
- 1:12:01like motorcycle trips, motorcycles, cars, you know, I
- 1:12:06was doing all sorts of stuff. I got to shop, but I'd always
- 1:12:11tinker in and stuff. But this is just Rutzgar and the
- 1:12:15game is just taking over. So I really, I don't know,
- 1:12:19probably work, be working more. I don't know.
- 1:12:24That's tough to say. Broccoli Rob, what would you be
- 1:12:27doing? I don't know.
- 1:12:30Train simulator maybe? Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:12:35I yeah train simulator. I've seen people play.
- 1:12:46Train simulator. It seems so boring.
- 1:12:49Murphy decided to actually play train.
- 1:12:52Yeah, well, that's different. Yeah.
- 1:12:56Crotch, mullet. Crotch mullet.
- 1:13:01You there? Yeah.
- 1:13:01Yeah, I'm here. It's hard because yeah, it takes
- 1:13:06a lot to sit down and play this game, but I love playing with
- 1:13:11like all of you guys and don't judge me, Jar Jar.
- 1:13:15But if I wasn't doing this, I guess I'd just make, I'd make
- 1:13:20more time to make creative videos and stuff.
- 1:13:23I love doing that. All right.
- 1:13:28And Duke, Duke, buddy, what would you be doing?
- 1:13:31Probably, probably something constructive, you know, helping
- 1:13:35my fellow man, maintaining my physical health, you know,
- 1:13:39learning a new skill. But thankfully we don't.
- 1:13:42We don't have to worry about that because we do have this
- 1:13:44game. Thank goodness for that.
- 1:13:48It is a bit disconcerting how many people would have these
- 1:13:53much more productive and fulfilling lives, apparently
- 1:13:55without this game. Yeah, I'd like to add something.
- 1:13:59They're just lying to themselves.
- 1:14:01Who's who? Who?
- 1:14:02Who really believes any of us? Yeah, you wouldn't be better
- 1:14:05people. Yeah, I.
- 1:14:07What about you jar Jar. What would you be doing?
- 1:14:12Just sleeping. I'd probably be eating more, you
- 1:14:16know, I don't know. Probably nothing.
- 1:14:24It's not. Sitting in a room, staring at a
- 1:14:26wall. Yeah, I've used.
- 1:14:28I've done that a lot. My day, I don't know.
- 1:14:32I don't know what I've been doing.
- 1:14:35I'm making a game right now. It's a lot of fun.
- 1:14:39Wicked also said he had a lot of disposable income, so I'd like
- 1:14:42to add that I'd buy more ships. Maybe with it convince him to
- 1:14:48send me some money so I can buy ships.
- 1:14:50Oh, you're lobbying him now? Wonderful.
- 1:14:53First appearance. Crutch mullet, right?
- 1:14:56I'm on the show. Just go all over the show.
- 1:14:58Just do something different. No, Trump doesn't do something.
- 1:15:00Different and then he's. Begging.
- 1:15:02He's over here calling Wicked Daddy, you know.
- 1:15:07Get into my engineering Bay. You.
- 1:15:09This, this, I feel like this, this new patch, when it comes
- 1:15:13out to PU, I'll be in Wicked's engineering thing, and then I'll
- 1:15:17come back upstairs to look at the view and be like, oh wow.
- 1:15:21And he'd be. Like get back down there, you
- 1:15:23don't look out this. Window.
- 1:15:28That's why he got the Clipper, so that you can be a floor below
- 1:15:31him. Wasn't this an episode of The
- 1:15:34Boys I. Don't know, never seen it.
- 1:15:44That's the one with the racist superheroes.
- 1:15:46No, no, it's. I mean, some are, I'm sure.
- 1:15:52It's like it's it's it's the wire but with capes.
- 1:15:57It's fucking crazy, actually. It's just it.
- 1:16:02Yeah, never mind. Anyways.
- 1:16:05Alright, anyway, any anything anyone want to add anything
- 1:16:08anyone want to add about about the patch before we take off
- 1:16:11here? I can't wait to have to
- 1:16:17rearrange on my shit again and find 800, you know, white
- 1:16:23helmets and have to dispose of them.
- 1:16:26That's going to be fun and hopefully I don't lose any
- 1:16:30ships. All right.
- 1:16:34Let's let's hope for things that are real, you know?
- 1:16:38Well, look, let's, let's end the let's end the show on a very
- 1:16:41positive note. In a couple of weeks, we're
- 1:16:44going to give this new patch 4.5.
- 1:16:46It's going to be fraught with difficulty and strife.
- 1:16:50Yes, positive, positive with it. CI GS going to go a on vacation
- 1:16:55until sometime in January and we're going to be left with a
- 1:17:00pile of engineering, pile of positive engineering.
- 1:17:06For Christmas. Like we do every year.
- 1:17:10Thank you for thank you for being positive with you.
- 1:17:14January 3rd. Come on.
- 1:17:16I don't want to go off brand too far, man.
- 1:17:19Come on. Yeah, well.
- 1:17:20Duke, you know how we end the show, usually.
- 1:17:26With some sort of technical issue.
- 1:17:29No, we go around and we ask everyone if there's anything
- 1:17:32they'd like to say to Chris Roberts, CIG or the people on
- 1:17:35the Internet. Silly goose.
- 1:17:37Silly goose, I'm just silly goosing over here.
- 1:17:42We usually go in reverse order, so we're going to start with
- 1:17:44crotch mullet. Crotch mullet.
- 1:17:46Is there anything you'd like to say to CIG Chris Roberts of the
- 1:17:49People on the Internet? I want to ask you a question.
- 1:17:53Did you press record? Yeah, we're recording.
- 1:17:57OK, OK. Did you?
- 1:18:00Did you? Listen to the beginning of the
- 1:18:01show. Yes.
- 1:18:04This is like strike three, dude. You just so now you're just
- 1:18:06insulting me. This is unbelievable.
- 1:18:11I'm sorry, I'm sorry, The last. Appearance.
- 1:18:15Yeah, that's not even the question I asked.
- 1:18:17Yeah, I know. It kind of is you, you asked,
- 1:18:20you know, if there was anything he wanted to say to CIG or the
- 1:18:23people on the Internet. We, we are people on the
- 1:18:26Internet. And he said something.
- 1:18:30Guess that's fair. Anything else?
- 1:18:32Crotch mullet. I'm good, thank you.
- 1:18:34I'm probably going to never be invited again.
- 1:18:37No, you're invited every week. It's a it's a fun house here.
- 1:18:40Everyone can come on the show. All you got to do is pop on in.
- 1:18:43We we let people come in the show and they were playing all
- 1:18:46kinds of inappropriate music. Wasted a lot of our time.
- 1:18:51We had a we had to cut it out. Murphy Jack Anything you want to
- 1:18:55say to CIG? Chris Roberts of the People on
- 1:18:56the Internet. Keep cooking.
- 1:18:59Yeah, Lord Nubis, anything you want to say to CAG, Chris
- 1:19:03Roberts or the people on? The Internet, yes.
- 1:19:09I am looking forward to this next Luminalia.
- 1:19:14May everybody have their Alia lumen.
- 1:19:19Yeah. Well said, well spoken Broccoli
- 1:19:24Rob. Anything you want to say to CAG,
- 1:19:26Chris Roberts or the people on the Internet?
- 1:19:29Yeah, keep. Keep cooking, keep having fun.
- 1:19:36Wicket Anything you want to say to CAG, Chris Roberts or the
- 1:19:39people on the Internet? Yes, Sandy.
- 1:19:46Chris Roberts, we spoke about this before and I knew you were
- 1:19:52going to ignore me. Fire extinguisher, jet packs.
- 1:19:56What happened? Seriously.
- 1:19:59It was such a win win situation that you could have been in and
- 1:20:04you let yourself down. You let me down.
- 1:20:06You let you let the whole community of stars.
- 1:20:09Could have been a win, win, win, absolutely.
- 1:20:15That is all. Yeah, fire extinguisher,
- 1:20:18Jetpack, CIG make it happen and Duke, we did it, buddy.
- 1:20:25We. Did it nice, apparently skin of
- 1:20:30our teeth. Oh, yeah.
- 1:20:32Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:20:32One more for the books. All right, Duke.
- 1:20:36Well, you know how we usually do this.
- 1:20:40Play us out. This is not that song, so please
- 1:20:51don't sue us. Please.
