- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on. Uh huh, I sure will. Good morning everybody.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You're listening to the voice, come on, dig me now
- 0:10Speaker 1: for it. Only Steve Harvey got a radio show man
- 0:14Speaker 1: instead of trying to be about the business. To y'all,
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm doing all I can. But you know what's crazy
- 0:23Speaker 1: in the efforts that I make, I can do more.
- 0:28Speaker 1: When my father used to tell me something when I
- 0:30Speaker 1: was growing up, he says, son, when you've done your best,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and you've done all you can, sit still for a
- 0:40Speaker 1: second and just do a little bit more. Always remember that,
- 0:46Speaker 1: he said, when you've done the best you can and
- 0:48Speaker 1: you can done all you can think of, he say,
- 0:51Speaker 1: sit still for a minute and do some more. And
- 0:54Speaker 1: you know what I've discovered in my life, always have
- 0:57Speaker 1: a little more. I ain't ever just out out out completely.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I can't take another step. There ain't another breath in me.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The ain't another thought I can produce. I'm never completely out, man.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Just take a rest for a minute, man, and then
- 1:15Speaker 1: just do a little bit more. And I can't tell
- 1:18Speaker 1: you how many times that's helped me get over the top.
- 1:22Speaker 1: You know, I was watching a documentary about people climbing
- 1:25Speaker 1: on Mount Everest and how difficult climbing Mount Everest was,
- 1:29Speaker 1: and how they have on the hill something called like
- 1:33Speaker 1: a death zone or a killing zone where the majority
- 1:37Speaker 1: of people run out of oxygen and they have to
- 1:39Speaker 1: turn back. Well, what's crazy is it's right in view
- 1:45Speaker 1: of the summit. You can actually see the top of
- 1:48Speaker 1: Mount Everest from there, but it's that little bit that's
- 1:53Speaker 1: left that's just most difficult. Now, I forgot all the
- 1:56Speaker 1: reasons why they said most people don't make it from there,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and more people have lost their lives in that area.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I don't know what it is, but the people that
- 2:06Speaker 1: make it to the top of Mount Efforts, they all
- 2:10Speaker 1: had to go through that same zone of that same area,
- 2:14Speaker 1: but they had a little bit more that allowed them
- 2:17Speaker 1: to get to the top. You know, a lot of
- 2:20Speaker 1: people have had accidents up there trying that. So I'm
- 2:23Speaker 1: not even really sure if Mount Everest analogy is a
- 2:26Speaker 1: good one. But let's just break it down a little
- 2:29Speaker 1: bit more. Let's just talk about life. There's a poem
- 2:33Speaker 1: I learned back when the host pledging. It's called don't Quit.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It goes like this, if I make a mistake, I'm
- 2:40Speaker 1: just trying to drum it up. So here we go,
- 2:43Speaker 1: it says, when things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
- 2:46Speaker 1: when the road you're trudging seems all uphill, when your
- 2:50Speaker 1: funds are low and your debts are high, when you
- 2:54Speaker 1: want to smile, but you have to sigh when cares
- 2:58Speaker 1: are pressing you down. A bit, rest if you must,
- 3:02Speaker 1: but don't quit, for life is queer with his twist
- 3:06Speaker 1: and turns, as every one of us must sometimes learn.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And many a fellow has turned about when he might
- 3:14Speaker 1: have won had he stuck it out. So don't give up.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Though the pace seems slow. You may succeed with another blow.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Often the gold is nearer than it seems to a
- 3:28Speaker 1: faint and a faltering man. And often the struggler has
- 3:32Speaker 1: given up when he might have captured the victor's cup,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and he learns too late, when the night came down,
- 3:40Speaker 1: how close he was to the golden crown. Success is
- 3:45Speaker 1: failure turned inside out. It's your silver tin of your
- 3:50Speaker 1: clouds of doubt, and you never can tell how close
- 3:54Speaker 1: you are. It may be nil when it seems afar
- 4:00Speaker 1: to the fight. When your hardest hit is when things
- 4:04Speaker 1: seem worse that you mustn't quit. I remember it because
- 4:09Speaker 1: I had a special method of helping you remember stuff
- 4:11Speaker 1: back then. But I remembered it, and that poem right
- 4:15Speaker 1: there has kept me. You know, we often talk about
- 4:18Speaker 1: scripture and everything, and then I don't see how I
- 4:21Speaker 1: could live without it. But every now and then, man,
- 4:24Speaker 1: somebody has a writing. God puts a writing on somebody's
- 4:27Speaker 1: heart that delivers a message, man, that can help people.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I use every motivational tool that I possibly can to
- 4:34Speaker 1: climb this letter of success or try to be the
- 4:36Speaker 1: best father and the best husband I can be. I've
- 4:39Speaker 1: done a lot of changing over the years, and so
- 4:41Speaker 1: have you. But change is necessary in order to grow.
- 4:45Speaker 1: If you don't make changes, folks, you can't grow. I
- 4:48Speaker 1: was a young man on my set. I kept looking
- 4:51Speaker 1: at him in a sharp little young dude just on
- 4:54Speaker 1: my set, and he had these dreads and I mean
- 4:58Speaker 1: they would they was super long, man, they will well
- 5:03Speaker 1: below the middle of his back. I mean it was
- 5:05Speaker 1: just long. And he kept talking to me, and he
- 5:07Speaker 1: kept talking to me and talking to me. So young
- 5:10Speaker 1: man kept talking to me, and I said, hey, man,
- 5:12Speaker 1: you know, you do your a huge self of favor
- 5:15Speaker 1: in the business you're in. If you got a haircut,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you would do yourself a huge favor. I said, your
- 5:20Speaker 1: image is everything. Man, I said, he keeps stopping me
- 5:22Speaker 1: in the hallway to try to tell me what you're doing,
- 5:24Speaker 1: what you are, But all I see is your hair.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Now I keep trying to figure out what you're doing
- 5:29Speaker 1: with all that hair. Man, Now you can feel how
- 5:32Speaker 1: you want to feel. But I'm like an employer. I
- 5:35Speaker 1: employed people. So when I'm walking through the hallway and
- 5:39Speaker 1: I try to think of you traveling with me and
- 5:41Speaker 1: you sitting in a meeting with me, I try to
- 5:43Speaker 1: imagine you and your suit sitting there talking business with me.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And so, just like other employers are, I'm just having
- 5:50Speaker 1: a real story with you. So I said, man, you
- 5:52Speaker 1: ought to consider cutting your hair. He said, Man, mister Harve,
- 5:56Speaker 1: I've been growing his hair I as a little boy.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I said, holy you now he said twenty eight. I said, well,
- 6:02Speaker 1: how long you want to hang on to what you
- 6:04Speaker 1: was when you was a little boy? You know, if
- 6:07Speaker 1: you started growing your hair when you're a teenager. I mean,
- 6:09Speaker 1: you're twenty eight now. And I said, so let me
- 6:12Speaker 1: help you understand something. Let me let me ask you something.
- 6:15Speaker 1: What does it do for you? He said, Man, it's
- 6:17Speaker 1: just who I am. I said, so you your hair?
- 6:22Speaker 1: He said no, no, but it's a part of me.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I said, that part of you that you're hanging on to,
- 6:28Speaker 1: What does it do for you? I just like it? Well, dog,
- 6:33Speaker 1: I like ice cream, but I feed that. But if
- 6:36Speaker 1: I hang on ice cream and eat ice cream every
- 6:38Speaker 1: single day, my body gonna reflect that. What is it
- 6:42Speaker 1: that you hanging on to that you don't want to
- 6:45Speaker 1: let go of? That's prohibiting you from being what all
- 6:47Speaker 1: you can be? See, it's hard to be what all
- 6:50Speaker 1: you can be if you want to keep being all
- 6:52Speaker 1: you was? Don't that make sense to you? So I
- 6:57Speaker 1: can't tell you how many times I've had to change.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Change is necessary to grow. You can't be all you
- 7:05Speaker 1: can be if you want to keep hanging on to
- 7:09Speaker 1: all you was. That don't make no sense. How do
- 7:13Speaker 1: you go forward? If you keep going backwards? You can't
- 7:17Speaker 1: stay here and go there? Do you understand that if
- 7:22Speaker 1: you want to go over there, you must remove yourself
- 7:26Speaker 1: from right here? Oh? I got right here is comfortable,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I got right here is safe. But over there's where
- 7:34Speaker 1: the shade is over. There's where the fruit is over.
- 7:38Speaker 1: There is where the opportunity is over. There is where
- 7:42Speaker 1: the mountain of goal is so, why you stuck on here?
- 7:47Speaker 1: You got to leave here to go over there. You
- 7:50Speaker 1: can't be all you can be if you want to
- 7:53Speaker 1: stay stuck on who you was. Change is growth is necessary.
- 7:57Speaker 1: All let's go. You're listening to The Steve Harvey Morning Show.
