- 0:26Speaker 2: HiT's the classy. I'll go hold all right, thank you,
- 0:32Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Mixed Company Podcast. You're
- 0:36Speaker 2: joined by myself Jamison Welsh, and of course we are
- 0:39Speaker 2: here with Classic Alcoholic as well. Classy. What's going on?
- 0:42Speaker 3: Oh man, we're here with episode five and because we
- 0:45Speaker 3: released every other Thursday, I guess Discounts is our official
- 0:47Speaker 3: Christmas episode. So you know, Mary Christmas, everybody listening. I'm
- 0:51Speaker 3: getting in the spirit literally with some eggnog here spiked
- 0:55Speaker 3: with bourbon and listening to that one Coldplay Christmas song
- 0:58Speaker 3: on repeat. So get it in the hull the spirit.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, that's what's up. That's what's up.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yeah, So what do we got going on the news? Jameson?
- 1:07Speaker 2: We've got a lot going on, man. Of course, the
- 1:10Speaker 2: never ending battle between Devin Handy and Ryan Garcia. It's
- 1:14Speaker 2: never ending, like they're in court, like it's not a
- 1:16Speaker 2: rise in court now arising each other, now this in general,
- 1:19Speaker 2: but there in court, we got you know, some Crawford Canelo,
- 1:25Speaker 2: you know rumors we have you know, Tyson Fury fighting
- 1:29Speaker 2: this week. We got a lot going on, man, there's
- 1:31Speaker 2: a lot, like there's a long list of just stuff.
- 1:35Speaker 3: You think it'd be a little bit more chill at
- 1:36Speaker 3: the end of the year, the holidays, a lot of
- 1:38Speaker 3: stuff going on. But there's there's a lot going on
- 1:41Speaker 3: in the news. So, uh, just before we get into
- 1:43Speaker 3: the news, let's let's get into the last episode. We
- 1:47Speaker 3: talked about the Man versus Oscar Valdez fight, and uh,
- 1:52Speaker 3: just a quick recap of that thing that I went
- 1:54Speaker 3: to last weekend man, two weekends ago. That was an
- 1:57Speaker 3: excellent event. It was a really good time. But you
- 1:59Speaker 3: got that fight, jameson did. I did cash the fight?
- 2:02Speaker 3: It came on a little later than normal, Like I
- 2:04Speaker 3: don't know, I know, you're our head. It felt like
- 2:07Speaker 3: it could have came on earlier, but it came on
- 2:09Speaker 3: a lot later than I thought it would. Let's just
- 2:11Speaker 3: say I was waiting in that stadium for a long time.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I was there for like five five hours or something
- 2:16Speaker 3: like that, for a moment hand.
- 2:18Speaker 2: How did you handle it? Because I know you enjoy
- 2:20Speaker 2: some adult beverages in your time and when you're waiting
- 2:24Speaker 2: for a boxing match, how did you How did that
- 2:26Speaker 2: all go down?
- 2:27Speaker 3: Well? Yeah, so, first of all, fuck stadium prices on alcohol, man,
- 2:32Speaker 3: you know that. I think next time I go into
- 2:33Speaker 3: event like this, I'm going I'm going on the wagon.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I'll be the classy teetotaler because it's like seventeen dollars
- 2:39Speaker 3: for a tall boy.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it was rough. It was that drain in the bank,
- 2:44Speaker 3: and then the bat The men's bathroom line was a disaster.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It was so long, it was a shit show. And
- 2:50Speaker 3: then guys, we have to stop being disgusting. That bathroom
- 2:54Speaker 3: was so gross. Shout out to the janitorial staff at
- 2:56Speaker 3: the Footprint Center. So that part was kind of was
- 2:59Speaker 3: not fun. It was a lot less fun, just kind
- 3:01Speaker 3: of waiting in between the rounds, waiting in that damn line.
- 3:04Speaker 3: But overall, man, you know it was It was a
- 3:06Speaker 3: great time. Live boxing is always fun. In an event
- 3:09Speaker 3: of this magnitude, the energy was just unreal in the place.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Some of the coolest things that happened in boxing happened
- 3:17Speaker 3: at that event. Like a lot of stoppages, a lot
- 3:19Speaker 3: of knockouts. Nobody got put to sleep, that's the only
- 3:22Speaker 3: thing that was missing. But Oscar Valdez got hit so
- 3:24Speaker 3: hard as mouthguard flew out during the fight. And I
- 3:27Speaker 3: saw it live and it was it was amazing. It's
- 3:29Speaker 3: just it was so much fun. It's set a real
- 3:32Speaker 3: high bar for live boxing event. So for the next one,
- 3:35Speaker 3: it's it's got a lot to live up to.
- 3:38Speaker 2: And that's interesting because in Phoenix, you don't think of
- 3:40Speaker 2: that being a boxing market, right, you don't think of
- 3:43Speaker 2: Arizona being a hotbed for boxing events. They have plenty
- 3:46Speaker 2: of venues to where you can hold an event at.
- 3:48Speaker 2: You can hold it in Phoenix, Tucson, Glendelle, et cetera.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But you don't think of Phoenix as the first place
- 3:55Speaker 2: special on West Coast hold a fight. But it's good
- 3:58Speaker 2: to know that and hopefully going forward they continue doing
- 4:01Speaker 2: that because it felt like it was a dope fight.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It felt like there's a lot of energy in the
- 4:05Speaker 2: building for that one.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's especially helped it was it was a
- 4:09Speaker 3: Mexican event. You know, there's a lot of Mexican fighters.
- 4:11Speaker 3: The main event was two Mexing guys and you know,
- 4:13Speaker 3: of course you can imagine a lot of Mexican population
- 4:16Speaker 3: in Arizona, so that really helped, you know, the energy
- 4:21Speaker 3: people were. Nobody was getting too too rowdy in terms
- 4:24Speaker 3: of like you know, Agro, but there are people, you know,
- 4:27Speaker 3: shouting at each other, rooting for different fighters, but it
- 4:30Speaker 3: was all in good fun. There was a one fight
- 4:33Speaker 3: between Rafis Pinoza, Mexing guy, and Robesi Ramirez from Cuba,
- 4:37Speaker 3: and that was very close to a small group of
- 4:40Speaker 3: people shouting, you know, Cuba, Cuba. Then one guy just
- 4:44Speaker 3: started shouting fuck Fidel Castro, I don't know where, which
- 4:46Speaker 3: is not funny, so I guess that works. But but yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 3: you know, like I said, really good energy, a lot
- 4:53Speaker 3: of fun. Maybe the long wait in between those matches
- 4:58Speaker 3: was was less fun, but I was just happy to
- 5:00Speaker 3: be there.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Man.
- 5:01Speaker 3: The seats were really good. Yeah, I can't say, I
- 5:03Speaker 3: can't say enough good things about the experience, so I
- 5:05Speaker 3: can't wait for the next one. Good to here.
- 5:07Speaker 2: No, it's dope to hear as a as a boxing fan,
- 5:11Speaker 2: you know, I think everyone should experience at least one
- 5:14Speaker 2: fight in person, if financially possible, you know, not everybody
- 5:17Speaker 2: has the means to do so, so I get it,
- 5:19Speaker 2: But if you are a boxing fan, I think you
- 5:21Speaker 2: should at least at least try to at tempt one
- 5:25Speaker 2: because nothing replaces the arena or the city of a
- 5:30Speaker 2: big fight weekend. There's nothing that replaces. I don't care
- 5:33Speaker 2: what you think. There's nothing. You know, super Bowl of course,
- 5:37Speaker 2: Kentucky Derby, NBA Finals, maybe World Series. But in terms
- 5:41Speaker 2: of this a fight weekend, there's a certain energy that
- 5:44Speaker 2: you can't really describe unless you're actually in the arena.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Sure. Yeah. The only thing I could personally like describe
- 5:50Speaker 3: it to is I actually went to Philly for my
- 5:53Speaker 3: birthday a couple of years ago in February, and that
- 5:55Speaker 3: was the weekend that the Eagles were in the super
- 5:57Speaker 3: Bowl in Phoenix. The game was held Phoenix, so that
- 6:02Speaker 3: whole weekend people were like I heard so many times
- 6:04Speaker 3: people say, oh, you're coming out here and everybody's going
- 6:06Speaker 3: over there, and I was like, shut up, stop saying that.
- 6:09Speaker 3: But the the energy in the town, the Eagles fans,
- 6:12Speaker 3: everybody was in their their jersey and stuff. That was
- 6:15Speaker 3: really cool. I'm not even a football fan. I don't
- 6:17Speaker 3: dislike it. I just don't follow it, but that was
- 6:19Speaker 3: really cool experience being there on the super Bowl weekend
- 6:22Speaker 3: in Philly and it's a cool town. I had a
- 6:24Speaker 3: lot of fun.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Good good. No, that's cool, that's cool. But no, You're
- 6:28Speaker 2: definitely in twenty five more boxing events, whether they're in
- 6:31Speaker 2: a z Nevada, Cali, wherever they are, where it's manageable.
- 6:35Speaker 2: We can definitely get that set up. Because once you
- 6:38Speaker 2: go to once you start waring to fights, it's it
- 6:41Speaker 2: becomes addicting. It becomes very addicting going forward, Like you
- 6:44Speaker 2: want to go to more, you want to be in
- 6:45Speaker 2: the you want to be on the plaps. You know
- 6:47Speaker 2: you want to be you want to be there. So
- 6:48Speaker 2: that's huge.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, Skuy's the limit for the Mixed Company podcast
- 6:52Speaker 3: in twenty twenty five, we're just getting started. Baby. Also
- 6:56Speaker 3: literally for this episode, for the next news story, I
- 7:00Speaker 3: want to give a shout out to a listener from
- 7:01Speaker 3: Blue Sky named Michi who asked if we were going
- 7:04Speaker 3: to talk about this particular fight. We love taking questions
- 7:06Speaker 3: and suggestions on topics from the audience, so please don't
- 7:09Speaker 3: be shy, y'all. Whatever you want to hear on the show,
- 7:11Speaker 3: let us know The story is that last weekend, Mexican
- 7:14Speaker 3: boxer Himen Mungia, who is a very good boxer, was
- 7:17Speaker 3: knocked out by Frenchman Brunos Sudras. So this was a
- 7:20Speaker 3: homecoming fight for Mungia and his native Tijuana and it
- 7:24Speaker 3: was supposed to be his big comeback after his first
- 7:26Speaker 3: ever loss to Canelo in May of this year. Although
- 7:28Speaker 3: that loss was by decision and uh man, it was
- 7:33Speaker 3: an upset definitely, people did not expect it. Let me
- 7:36Speaker 3: say this, if there's one thing that would make this
- 7:38Speaker 3: show truly successful, I think is if we could inspire
- 7:41Speaker 3: boxing fans to be better and not just repeat the
- 7:44Speaker 3: same shit they hear over and over the cliche comments.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Because when the mcgia fight was announced against Sudas, you
- 7:51Speaker 3: might guess what happened. A bunch of people were commenting
- 7:53Speaker 3: on ig that, oh, he's fighting an uber Driver. That's
- 7:56Speaker 3: the current thing that fans are parroting. He's an uber
- 7:58Speaker 3: Driver because it's a name they haven't heard of. Like
- 8:01Speaker 3: if the name isn't familiar, this guy must be a bomb.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Like I think that's dumb. If there's anything good that
- 8:06Speaker 3: comes from a Mexican guy getting knocked out by a
- 8:08Speaker 3: French and maybe we'll get people to shut up with
- 8:10Speaker 3: that uber driver stuff because right, you don't know, man,
- 8:13Speaker 3: You know when yeah, I got knocked out in the
- 8:15Speaker 3: sixth round was a good clean knockout. And sure Sudasa's
- 8:18Speaker 3: record wasn't as extensive, but nobody's is until they get
- 8:22Speaker 3: more experience.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Right, It's true, this is true. But what you're asking
- 8:26Speaker 2: for is people to be rational. Remember fans so short
- 8:29Speaker 2: for fanatics, So you got to realize that you're asked
- 8:32Speaker 2: for a fanatics to be rational. It's very hard to
- 8:34Speaker 2: do with. With that being said, I do wish people would
- 8:39Speaker 2: analyze the whole situation of a fight rather than this
- 8:41Speaker 2: root for their own If you analyze and break down
- 8:44Speaker 2: the fight itself instead of just your rooting interest, I
- 8:47Speaker 2: think we'd all be a lot better off, especially since
- 8:49Speaker 2: if you know the sport, if you know how to
- 8:51Speaker 2: you know how the sport works, and you can break
- 8:53Speaker 2: it down of the strengths and weaknesses of each fighter.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I think if you could do that and be non biased,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I think we'd be all better off. Problem is a
- 9:00Speaker 2: lot of people get their feelings and emotions involved in
- 9:03Speaker 2: these discussions and it never works.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Out well, sure, and you know I'm I'm guilty of
- 9:08Speaker 3: it too. You know, I want my guys to win.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I wanted the Mexican got to win. But at the
- 9:12Speaker 3: end of the day, it only takes one punch to
- 9:15Speaker 3: change the course of a fight, and anything can happen
- 9:17Speaker 3: in boxing. That's why I think it's the greatest part
- 9:19Speaker 3: of the world, to be quite honest with you, So
- 9:21Speaker 3: you know, and don't forget. Every country in the world
- 9:24Speaker 3: has a boxer, so there's gonna be a lot of
- 9:26Speaker 3: names you've never heard of. So don't immediately assume that
- 9:29Speaker 3: you know somebody's above just because you had You know what,
- 9:33Speaker 3: I am going to paraphrase the film Ratitui. Not everyone
- 9:38Speaker 3: can be a great fighter, but a great fighter can
- 9:40Speaker 3: come from anywhere.
- 9:42Speaker 2: No, that's real. That's real, And I think that in
- 9:45Speaker 2: this era is way different because not a whole lot
- 9:48Speaker 2: of people experience struggle like they did back in the day.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Like most of the boxers always came from bad backgrounds, right,
- 9:54Speaker 2: very poor, poverty situations, immigrant whatever, how do you want
- 9:58Speaker 2: to slice it. So, yeah, it was a little bit
- 10:01Speaker 2: different nowadays. You don't see that, like Ryan Garcia wasn't poor.
- 10:05Speaker 2: You know what I mean, Like, certainly the other guys
- 10:07Speaker 2: weren't like dirt poor. It just didn't happen that way.
- 10:10Speaker 2: It's just a different generation, different era. But with that
- 10:13Speaker 2: being said, you don't play boxing, you gotta have it
- 10:17Speaker 2: in you. You cannot pretend you will get exposed at
- 10:21Speaker 2: some level, some way, shape or form. You will get
- 10:24Speaker 2: exposed if you think you can play boxing. It never
- 10:26Speaker 2: works out that way.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know Mungia, like I said, he is
- 10:30Speaker 3: a good fighter. He has had a very good record,
- 10:32Speaker 3: but maybe he was coasting. You know, he thought this
- 10:35Speaker 3: is my hometown. This guy has got you know, half
- 10:37Speaker 3: my fight Slimbacy. I got to hear. Uh, let's see
- 10:39Speaker 3: Mungia before this fight, he had forty three fights, thirty
- 10:43Speaker 3: five knockouts and only the one lost to Canelo. So
- 10:45Speaker 3: I said, twenty five fights, zero losses and only four knockouts.
- 10:50Speaker 3: So he probably thought, this guy ain't got shit on me.
- 10:52Speaker 3: You know, I'm gonna my people got they got me.
- 10:56Speaker 3: My people got me a Mintijuana in my hometown. Easy work.
- 10:59Speaker 3: And sorry brother, you know I love you, Hymet, But
- 11:02Speaker 3: uh that's you got to give credit where credit is due.
- 11:05Speaker 2: How many times have we seen guys lose at home.
- 11:08Speaker 2: You know, guys will either have a belt or just
- 11:11Speaker 2: came off a big fight. They'll fight at home and
- 11:14Speaker 2: they'll just not be focused or just lose. And yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 2: it's it's an It happens more often than you would
- 11:21Speaker 2: think looking back at all things, especially over the last
- 11:23Speaker 2: like twenty years, a lot of guys would fight back
- 11:25Speaker 2: at home and it just doesn't plan out well forever. Reason.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I maybe just they're high on their
- 11:32Speaker 3: own supply. I think that's another lesson that I hope
- 11:35Speaker 3: people take from the show is don't get high in
- 11:36Speaker 3: your own supply.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. If you're good enough, it doesn't matter, right,
- 11:42Speaker 2: if you're just overall talented is what it is. But
- 11:45Speaker 2: if you need to be focused, like if you need
- 11:47Speaker 2: to have all your your ducks in a row, then
- 11:50Speaker 2: you need to do that. Like, so that's where I
- 11:52Speaker 2: think it's a little bit different. So for instance, I'll
- 11:56Speaker 2: give a perfect example. There's bos who can fight a
- 12:02Speaker 2: B minus fight and still win. Not everybody's all the
- 12:06Speaker 2: time of boxer. There's a game more for than to win,
- 12:09Speaker 2: and it's just based off whether the skill set, whether
- 12:12Speaker 2: it's circle whatever, whatever those circumstances are they need to have.
- 12:15Speaker 2: So every box is different. Now. I think the elite
- 12:18Speaker 2: guys they can come in a bit unprepared or just
- 12:20Speaker 2: non focused and still have an ugly win. But not
- 12:24Speaker 2: everyone's like that, And I think that in the past,
- 12:26Speaker 2: we've seen a lot of guys just get caught. Whether
- 12:28Speaker 2: it's just distraction, whether it's immaturity. I think a lot
- 12:31Speaker 2: of times I remember zad Judah fighting in the garden
- 12:33Speaker 2: and getting dry. It's a lot of it just is
- 12:36Speaker 2: real immature, very immature, not being focused. Corey Spinx's another
- 12:41Speaker 2: guy fought in Saint Louis and didn't work out well,
- 12:44Speaker 2: and he had a belt, I believe as well. So
- 12:47Speaker 2: it's just those things that I don't count. Vegas. There's
- 12:50Speaker 2: not a whole lot of people relocate to Vegas. They
- 12:52Speaker 2: don't are not not from here, So I only don't
- 12:54Speaker 2: count that. But a lot of guys that they go
- 12:56Speaker 2: back to their hometown. It's a big struggle. It's just
- 12:59Speaker 2: hard to stay focused. Man really is.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Wasn't tell female Lopez playing or fighting in New York
- 13:04Speaker 3: when he lost the belt to Camboso's that big big
- 13:07Speaker 3: upset do we expected? Yeah, I mean that one was
- 13:09Speaker 3: a flip though. Cambosa's kind of trash. But that's another
- 13:12Speaker 3: conversation for you. Just you know, get tail headed off night.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Another thing too, since we're on the subject, I've seen
- 13:18Speaker 3: a lot of fighters who get a big win, big upset,
- 13:21Speaker 3: and their next big fight boom, tanket uh tell Femal Lopez,
- 13:25Speaker 3: Andy Ruis. After you beat Yes, yeah, Josh had a supply,
- 13:30Speaker 3: you know, major upset, nobody expected it, and you think
- 13:33Speaker 3: this guy's the next big thing, next fight, you know,
- 13:37Speaker 3: beat that.
- 13:38Speaker 2: You can't have guys that aren't expected to win all
- 13:42Speaker 2: of a sudden when everybody's saying how great they are,
- 13:46Speaker 2: and then they're just not as focused. You have more
- 13:48Speaker 2: interviews now, more people are watching, you have more follows
- 13:50Speaker 2: on social media, you have more interviews request. So it's
- 13:53Speaker 2: just everything changes, and if you don't have a strong camp,
- 13:56Speaker 2: or if you're not strong yourself, you have no chance.
- 13:59Speaker 3: That's fair a right, speaking of people that sometimes are
- 14:03Speaker 3: less focused and come out with ugly wins. This Saturday,
- 14:05Speaker 3: December twenty first, we have a very anticipated rematch between
- 14:08Speaker 3: heavyweights Alexander Ussik from Ukraine and Tyson Fury from British.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Did you watch the last fight in May of twenty
- 14:13Speaker 3: twenty four?
- 14:14Speaker 2: I did, I did, and I knew what was going
- 14:18Speaker 2: to happen was going to happen based off of the
- 14:21Speaker 2: conditioning of one Tyson Fury. That is the thing. Like, so,
- 14:26Speaker 2: when a guy is that big, when he's that large
- 14:28Speaker 2: of a human being, if he's not in great shape,
- 14:31Speaker 2: if he does not take conditioning well, and his opponent
- 14:34Speaker 2: is ready to fight, that can be more worth more
- 14:37Speaker 2: than just the overall skill set of the two fighters.
- 14:39Speaker 2: The conditioning and the preparation is key when the guys
- 14:43Speaker 2: are at this size. It never fails. If a guy's
- 14:46Speaker 2: not ready to fight, you will see it immediately.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Sure. I mean, the bigger you are, the slower you are,
- 14:51Speaker 3: and you got to really manage that if you're going
- 14:53Speaker 3: to get into a fight with somebody that's faster, has
- 14:56Speaker 3: better accuracy. I mean, I think Usik was always a
- 14:59Speaker 3: much better fighter. Opinion, especially probably the best competition the
- 15:02Speaker 3: Fury has had in recent years, Deontay Wilder. While a
- 15:06Speaker 3: good fighter, he's never had the actual boxing skills I
- 15:08Speaker 3: think to really be elite. So I think I think
- 15:11Speaker 3: that last fight of theirs was a lot of brute
- 15:13Speaker 3: force between the two of them, which you know that
- 15:16Speaker 3: could just go either way. If you just want to
- 15:18Speaker 3: big giant dudes, you know, throwing hands at a brawl,
- 15:22Speaker 3: that's cool. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a
- 15:24Speaker 3: great fight. But when you got somebody like Usik that
- 15:27Speaker 3: is very skilled head to toe, great footwork, great accuracy,
- 15:31Speaker 3: I think it's going to turn The second one is
- 15:32Speaker 3: going to turn out just like the last one. But
- 15:35Speaker 3: I don't know, what do you see happening after the fight?
- 15:38Speaker 3: I mean, do you think there'll be a trilogy And
- 15:40Speaker 3: then let's say that Usik wins, maybe maybe there's a
- 15:44Speaker 3: trilogy maybe after that. Fury kind of like coast on
- 15:46Speaker 3: his name. He's already said he's looking for the biggest
- 15:50Speaker 3: payday with the easiest fights he can get, just the
- 15:52Speaker 3: do domestic for his family. What's going to happen in
- 15:55Speaker 3: the future of the heavyweight division. I mean, like I said,
- 15:58Speaker 3: Deanty Wilder's kind of on the way out. He might yeah, yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 3: Anthony Joshua, like the promote lady hearn said, you know
- 16:05Speaker 3: he's still the king, and nobody believed him, so you.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Can't be you know, no one, no one cares about it.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I agreed, I don't care about him. So what's what's
- 16:16Speaker 3: the future of the like? I don't know a lot
- 16:18Speaker 3: of names I was. I was really interested in Jerry
- 16:20Speaker 3: the big baby Anderson, but then he took his first
- 16:23Speaker 3: loss a few months ago when he actually fought some
- 16:26Speaker 3: elite competition and maybe kind of kind of stopped his
- 16:30Speaker 3: his rising fame in its tracks. I don't know. I mean,
- 16:32Speaker 3: do you know what of any names coming up that
- 16:34Speaker 3: might be worth looking at?
- 16:36Speaker 2: So that's the thing. Unfortunately, we're in a weird time
- 16:38Speaker 2: again with the heavyweights. We had that for longest time,
- 16:41Speaker 2: and then we had some guys come up and become
- 16:44Speaker 2: names and have fights. We also never saw Wilder verse Joshua,
- 16:48Speaker 2: even though they both had their flaws. It's two big
- 16:50Speaker 2: names that drew a lot, that would have drew a
- 16:52Speaker 2: lot of interest. It would have been a mega fight
- 16:53Speaker 2: at one point in time. However, that just never took place.
- 16:57Speaker 2: When you miss out on those events in this day
- 16:59Speaker 2: and age, it's really difficult, and that's kind of where
- 17:01Speaker 2: we're at in this situation. That's why we're still relying
- 17:04Speaker 2: on Tyson Fury, who is severely out of shape and
- 17:07Speaker 2: who hasn't taken training seriously the last few fights he's
- 17:10Speaker 2: been in. However, he is a small underdog on Saturday
- 17:15Speaker 2: plus one thirty five meeting. If you do bet one
- 17:17Speaker 2: thirty five or you bet one hundred, you get one
- 17:19Speaker 2: thirty five plus one hundred back. It's not a bad number.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I preferred a little bit more based off what I
- 17:24Speaker 2: saw last time. But also there's a lot of questions
- 17:26Speaker 2: to be asked, like how focus is he? You mentioned
- 17:29Speaker 2: that he's trying to fight without he's trying to fight
- 17:31Speaker 2: the easiest fights to make the most money. Doesn't necessarily's
- 17:34Speaker 2: not a guy focused on winning fights. He's just trying
- 17:37Speaker 2: to get the cash. So that's always a troubling phrase
- 17:40Speaker 2: right there.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Because there are his own words. Yeah, he gave an
- 17:42Speaker 3: interview he said that so.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Very troubling. I would not be if I had to
- 17:47Speaker 2: put money on it, I would out feel comfortable betting him. However,
- 17:51Speaker 2: that's probably the best bet odds wise, just because it's
- 17:54Speaker 2: it's plus money. So if you're gonna bet, the possibility
- 17:57Speaker 2: of making more money is to go with him winning.
- 18:00Speaker 2: But man, I don't I don't like to hear the
- 18:03Speaker 2: easiest fight. And yeah, that's not good for it, that's
- 18:06Speaker 2: not good.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Well, we talked a little bit about betting last episode,
- 18:09Speaker 3: and why I said is that I don't typically bet
- 18:12Speaker 3: when the odds are sol lopsided that you have to
- 18:15Speaker 3: put in, you know, a couple of hundred just to
- 18:16Speaker 3: see any any amount of money. I would rather take
- 18:19Speaker 3: the underdog make the most amount of money with the smaller,
- 18:24Speaker 3: smaller investment. But it has to be if I really
- 18:26Speaker 3: really believe that the underdog is going to win. In
- 18:29Speaker 3: this case, I just don't see it for fury. I
- 18:31Speaker 3: actually speaking of tail Fei Malopez, I made pretty good
- 18:35Speaker 3: amount of money just putting in a little bit when
- 18:36Speaker 3: he was the underdog against oh shit, who was it?
- 18:39Speaker 3: Oh Josh Taylor? Josh Taylor, because you know Tayl had
- 18:43Speaker 3: lost to Kemboso's he want to fight. That was kind
- 18:46Speaker 3: of iffy, and you know people thought it is he
- 18:49Speaker 3: is he on the way out? So but I was
- 18:50Speaker 3: I really believe that Tayl was going to be that
- 18:53Speaker 3: he was the better fighter than Josh Taylor. And you know,
- 18:56Speaker 3: just a few bucks, I was sitting pretty I didn't
- 18:58Speaker 3: go hungry that that weekend.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So you know, those are good if you get an
- 19:02Speaker 2: upset win. It's always good. I've had a couple of
- 19:04Speaker 2: those in the past, but those are always good. Danny
- 19:07Speaker 2: Garcia has been really kind to me. When he fought
- 19:10Speaker 2: mir con a decade ago, decade plus ago, now almost
- 19:13Speaker 2: twelve years ago. Over twelve years ago, now that was
- 19:16Speaker 2: he was plus five hundred. So it was a good day,
- 19:19Speaker 2: very very good day.
- 19:21Speaker 3: So yeah, So for this fight this weekend, I mean,
- 19:24Speaker 3: you know, I'm more interested in the aftermath of the
- 19:26Speaker 3: fight than the fight itself. I do want to see it.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I'm interested, but I mean very Hey, he like I said,
- 19:31Speaker 3: he my coast on his name. Oh, he might go
- 19:33Speaker 3: back to doing another season of his reality show. Did
- 19:35Speaker 3: you know there was a tyice of fear of reality
- 19:37Speaker 3: show last year.
- 19:38Speaker 2: That also, I could see him fighting a UFC guy, truly,
- 19:41Speaker 2: an exhibition like that that brings in a lot of money,
- 19:44Speaker 2: especially overseas, you know. So I can see that happening
- 19:47Speaker 2: because that brings him the most money, and there's interest
- 19:50Speaker 2: with that. I just don't see boxing. I don't see
- 19:53Speaker 2: how to fight for him. I don't even if he wins.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I can see a trilogy, but again, one go for
- 20:00Speaker 2: too you can't get a third one. If you lose
- 20:02Speaker 2: on Saturday, it's over. Like, I don't see it, and
- 20:04Speaker 2: he's not getting there's no need to fight Wilder again.
- 20:06Speaker 2: We don't need to see that. We don't need to
- 20:08Speaker 2: see Joshua. So yeah, I don't. I don't see it,
- 20:11Speaker 2: I said.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I think. He also said, I think now that you
- 20:13Speaker 3: mentioned that, Fury did say that he would take another
- 20:15Speaker 3: fight with Joshua, which cares you know, Yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 2: We don't really care. Like and also the Anthony Joshua thing.
- 20:25Speaker 2: When as a boxer, when you have the most hype,
- 20:27Speaker 2: you gotta cash it at that time. If you not
- 20:30Speaker 2: cashing when your hype is the highest, we just don't care.
- 20:33Speaker 2: We don't If you lose the guys you shouldn't lose two,
- 20:35Speaker 2: we don't care. We don't care, we lose interest. So
- 20:38Speaker 2: I advise that all the boxes out there, no matter
- 20:40Speaker 2: what division you're in, when you have buzz and you
- 20:42Speaker 2: have hype, you better capitalized and you better impress. You
- 20:45Speaker 2: better run the score up to where people want to
- 20:47Speaker 2: see you. You never want to get the point where,
- 20:49Speaker 2: oh damn, I forgot about him. You never want to
- 20:51Speaker 2: be in that stage of the box. Oh damn, he's
- 20:53Speaker 2: still boxing. You never want to be in that and
- 20:55Speaker 2: that in that era. If you're in that era, it's
- 20:58Speaker 2: very hard to get out that. It's very difficult. It's
- 21:00Speaker 2: like the Devin Alexander thing, like, oh, he's still fighting.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I haven't seen him fighting three years. You never want
- 21:05Speaker 2: to be in that frame. He was in that frame
- 21:07Speaker 2: for a long time. You don't want to do that.
- 21:10Speaker 3: That's very true. Yeah, Like we said before, you know
- 21:12Speaker 3: you you gotta fight more often. You got to keep
- 21:14Speaker 3: your name out there. And if you're taking a lot
- 21:16Speaker 3: of l's, well maybe I don't know, look at look
- 21:19Speaker 3: at a different career choice. Maybe commentary might be for you.
- 21:23Speaker 3: But if anybody yes, that's right, Yeah, you would come
- 21:26Speaker 3: on this podcast. If you're yeah, I want I would
- 21:31Speaker 3: tell you. I would love the interview boxer just to
- 21:33Speaker 3: I mean, I know a lot of the ins and
- 21:34Speaker 3: outs in just in general. I love to hear from
- 21:37Speaker 3: their perspective.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Because we don't have a lot of box we so
- 21:40Speaker 2: when boxing podcasts happen, it's mostly like the big name guys, right,
- 21:44Speaker 2: It's always like the famous powerful Brown Hall of Fame guys.
- 21:48Speaker 2: We don't have a lot of regular guys that are
- 21:52Speaker 2: just not I want to say journeyman because that's not cool,
- 21:55Speaker 2: but just above average guys. I would say we have
- 21:58Speaker 2: a lot of those. We don't get the from them
- 22:00Speaker 2: that much. And I think their stores are probably interesting
- 22:03Speaker 2: more than the guys are the top guys. So yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 2: that's interesting.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I have some insight. I've done a
- 22:08Speaker 3: lot of sparring, and in a short year period, a
- 22:11Speaker 3: couple of year period, never was great at it. Definitely
- 22:15Speaker 3: fought a lot of guys that kicked my ass. There's
- 22:17Speaker 3: some dudes I thought that are bigger, stronger, faster, and
- 22:19Speaker 3: then a couple of dudes that were all three at once.
- 22:21Speaker 3: So at the very least, I know what it's like to,
- 22:25Speaker 3: you know, to get into a small gym ring. I
- 22:28Speaker 3: know what it's like to get punched in the face.
- 22:29Speaker 3: I know what it takes to try to stay on
- 22:32Speaker 3: your feet for three minutes when you're about to bring
- 22:34Speaker 3: your gased out and you think, holy shit, all I
- 22:36Speaker 3: need to do is survive. But it's nothing at the
- 22:39Speaker 3: level of somebody who could peace professionally, and you know,
- 22:42Speaker 3: and and just saying that, you know, I sometimes say
- 22:46Speaker 3: stuff that like boxers should do, this should do that.
- 22:48Speaker 3: You know, I don't really mean it because I don't
- 22:49Speaker 3: know what it means to compete at that level. But
- 22:52Speaker 3: I know I know something about, you know, getting a
- 22:55Speaker 3: boxing glove in my face. So but there's a lot
- 22:57Speaker 3: of twitter finger boxing fans there. They just take their guy,
- 23:00Speaker 3: you know, and guys pack it up. Please, please, let's
- 23:02Speaker 3: not because I say, oh, well, you know, he should
- 23:04Speaker 3: have moved his legs more. He should have you know,
- 23:06Speaker 3: he shouldn't have quit. He shouldn't have done that, you know,
- 23:08Speaker 3: while sitting on the couch eating their wings.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Come on, guys, please, There's too many people who have
- 23:13Speaker 2: not been in enough fight in their life, let alone recently,
- 23:17Speaker 2: that have these comments. They don't know. They don't know
- 23:18Speaker 2: how to fight, like, they don't even know how to fight.
- 23:20Speaker 2: They're not a squirrel. They don't know how to throw
- 23:22Speaker 2: a jab. Most people break their wrists or hand if
- 23:25Speaker 2: they threw a punch.
- 23:26Speaker 3: They don't they don't know that. You need to set
- 23:28Speaker 3: down your way to getting a fighting stance.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Yes, and a lot of the power comes from you're
- 23:32Speaker 2: asking your hips and the thighs, not just throwing haymakers
- 23:35Speaker 2: from the shoulders. All the power comes from the the core,
- 23:39Speaker 2: your core exactly, That's where all the power comes from.
- 23:41Speaker 2: But again, I'm not professional, and I've had a few
- 23:45Speaker 2: fights in my day, but not those kind, not the
- 23:47Speaker 2: boxing fights. But again, just uh, just be careful because
- 23:51Speaker 2: you never know who's listening, who's watching exactly.
- 23:54Speaker 3: So uh, if you want to watch, you said versus
- 23:57Speaker 3: phiriy too, it'll be the Saturday of the twenty first
- 23:59Speaker 3: streaming on the Zone pay per view. If you didn't
- 24:02Speaker 3: know that that streaming service d a z N is
- 24:05Speaker 3: actually pronounced a zone. I only found that out like
- 24:07Speaker 3: a year ago. I thought it was actually daz in
- 24:10Speaker 3: and this for something.
- 24:11Speaker 2: But we called it dozen. It was called yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Okay, but I heard I heard somebody say we're correct, Yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 3: you're your pronouncedas is correct.
- 24:19Speaker 2: But everyone else's called it Dazzen because we didn't know
- 24:22Speaker 2: what the TLL it was.
- 24:23Speaker 3: It's it's not it's not the best name, but it
- 24:25Speaker 3: is streaming for like thirty bucks, which you can pay
- 24:28Speaker 3: for or you can ask on Twitter if anybody has
- 24:30Speaker 3: a streaming link. I don't know anything about that, so
- 24:34Speaker 3: but uh, I might try to find a sports bying
- 24:36Speaker 3: town playing it. But for for a fight, this big
- 24:38Speaker 3: I'm end up at a goddamn Buffalo Wild wins or something.
- 24:40Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Because that's Saturday, you got college football on, you got
- 24:45Speaker 2: NFL on, It's can be very difficult to find that
- 24:47Speaker 2: on outside.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I might just find I might just watch it
- 24:51Speaker 3: at home. But uh, the fight will be in Saudi Arabia.
- 24:53Speaker 3: So the approximate time for the main event is six
- 24:55Speaker 3: pm Eastern, three pm Pacific four pm here in Arizona
- 24:59Speaker 3: because we don't have daily saving time, which rules, but
- 25:01Speaker 3: it's kind of paid in the ass for international boxing.
- 25:03Speaker 3: So I think I'll just turn the TV on at
- 25:05Speaker 3: two pm my time, just to be safe.
- 25:07Speaker 2: There you go.
- 25:08Speaker 3: No, uh, and then one last thing about this particular
- 25:12Speaker 3: fight that it's going to segue into the next conversation.
- 25:14Speaker 3: The universe gave us a perfect segue. There is going
- 25:17Speaker 3: to be an AI referee involved in scoring this match.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Do you hear about this?
- 25:22Speaker 2: Nah? Nah? Please expound.
- 25:25Speaker 3: I don't know what much what else to say, because
- 25:28Speaker 3: I just saw a little blur. Maybe it was a
- 25:30Speaker 3: tweet from it was a Turkey Alashikh who's involved in
- 25:34Speaker 3: all these Saudi Arabia fights. It said that there's gonna
- 25:37Speaker 3: be an AI referee, like watching scoring mapping, but it
- 25:41Speaker 3: won't affect the official results. It'll still be judged by
- 25:45Speaker 3: the three judges typically that are there. But there's gonna
- 25:48Speaker 3: be the extra thing to see how it works. So
- 25:51Speaker 3: I don't know much about it.
- 25:52Speaker 2: How's like a test run then based like a try Okay, okay.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I try to run so but yeah. The next
- 25:59Speaker 3: conversation I wanted anyway was it was actually inspired by
- 26:02Speaker 3: an article from his own formerly known as Dazzen, that
- 26:06Speaker 3: I read a couple of weeks ago called how to
- 26:09Speaker 3: end Boxing scoring Controversies and Cries of Robbery. So the
- 26:13Speaker 3: gist of the article is that other sports like tennis
- 26:15Speaker 3: and football use advances in technology to verify close calls
- 26:18Speaker 3: me by refs. Football games have the video assistant referee.
- 26:24Speaker 3: If you see an NFL game, you can see how
- 26:25Speaker 3: closely they watch replace to determine like if a dude's
- 26:28Speaker 3: foot was even an inch over the line when he
- 26:29Speaker 3: catches the ball down to like centimeters, then the refs
- 26:32Speaker 3: just there's there calls based on the video. So that's
- 26:35Speaker 3: something that has never existed in boxing. I have thoughts
- 26:38Speaker 3: about the idea of bringing technology into the sport. But
- 26:41Speaker 3: but just just to lay some quick groundwork. You know,
- 26:44Speaker 3: boxing matches there's only one minute rest periods in between
- 26:48Speaker 3: rounds three minute rounds for men to two minute rounds
- 26:52Speaker 3: for women. Listen to episode three of this show to
- 26:54Speaker 3: learn more about women's boxing. But yeah, every every match
- 26:58Speaker 3: is scored by three judges separately, So unless the fight
- 27:01Speaker 3: gets stop by a knockout, the judges determine who wins,
- 27:04Speaker 3: you know, but on scoring. So my question a few
- 27:07Speaker 3: jameson is how does scoring and boxing actually work? And
- 27:10Speaker 3: what are the judges supposed to be looking for when
- 27:12Speaker 3: they watch two fighters go ahead to head?
- 27:14Speaker 2: So great question, great questions. Actually, so the judges are
- 27:20Speaker 2: supposed to be watching the fight, right, and not preconceived
- 27:24Speaker 2: notions and judgments. It's supposed to be. It's supposed to
- 27:28Speaker 2: be watching the fight, not assuming somebody's hitting somebody or
- 27:31Speaker 2: assuming someone's forced to action. There's been fights where a
- 27:34Speaker 2: boxer will be active but won't be making contact. There'll
- 27:37Speaker 2: also be there'll also be an example where a boxer's
- 27:40Speaker 2: making contact but not getting hit, but he's the less
- 27:43Speaker 2: active fighter, and that might fool the judges. I've heard
- 27:48Speaker 2: all different types of things when it comes to judges,
- 27:50Speaker 2: and every judge has basically have different things, right. It's
- 27:54Speaker 2: not like an assistant, Hey, if you have more power
- 27:58Speaker 2: punches you in the round, or hey if you land
- 28:00Speaker 2: more punches in general, you win. That's not necessarily it.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Every judge has different has different things. And also when
- 28:07Speaker 2: there's been scorecards pulled aside to say, hey, what happened here,
- 28:12Speaker 2: there's been different explanations along the way, and it's very
- 28:16Speaker 2: odd that you can have a different interpretation around than
- 28:20Speaker 2: I have. And there's really no guidelines set by that.
- 28:23Speaker 2: There's really no way to kind of tell like, hey,
- 28:27Speaker 2: I have it ten nine, you have it ten nine
- 28:29Speaker 2: the other way? Why or how if you see it?
- 28:33Speaker 2: If you see a fight one way and I see
- 28:35Speaker 2: it another, that's kind of how it goes. Now. I
- 28:38Speaker 2: will say this there a fight is one fifteen one
- 28:42Speaker 2: thirteen or one sixteen one twelve. Okay. I can see
- 28:45Speaker 2: some variances, right, like I can see you having one
- 28:48Speaker 2: round or a few rounds one way me and vice versus.
- 28:51Speaker 2: The issue is when there's one card that's one twenty
- 28:54Speaker 2: one oh eight and another one one fifteen one thirteen,
- 28:58Speaker 2: we're way way of path and something right. That's when
- 29:01Speaker 2: the issue is. But I think people go to the
- 29:05Speaker 2: rig the fix the I want to recount claim too
- 29:10Speaker 2: quickly because we are conditioned to do so because we've
- 29:13Speaker 2: seen so many fights kind of be fishy or kind
- 29:16Speaker 2: of be funny with the judging. So as a as
- 29:20Speaker 2: a whole, we've been conditioned to be like, you know what,
- 29:23Speaker 2: I'm fat, person out robbed. I'm not with that, blah
- 29:26Speaker 2: blah blah. But if a fight's one fifteen, one thirteen,
- 29:30Speaker 2: you know, I can't really cry foul here. I can't.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, there has been actual documented
- 29:40Speaker 3: corruption in boxing throughout his history. Yeah, that's a fact.
- 29:42Speaker 3: You know, we've seen there's some times the mob has
- 29:44Speaker 3: been involved in boxing, you know, in the past that's
- 29:46Speaker 3: come out. But the nature of how the fights are
- 29:49Speaker 3: scored makes that easy. I mean some judges also, some
- 29:52Speaker 3: judges might just be bad at judging. They might be
- 29:54Speaker 3: bad at their jobs right.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Bad at vision, They can't see something. Most of them
- 29:58Speaker 2: those are older people.
- 30:00Speaker 3: You can't know for a fact that a judge is
- 30:02Speaker 3: actively intentionally scoring a fight wrong because of bias or corruption,
- 30:06Speaker 3: and or if the judge is really trying his best
- 30:10Speaker 3: and just sucks at his job, or you know, if
- 30:13Speaker 3: they're judging him in good faith, they may see a
- 30:15Speaker 3: fighter doing better than they actually are and really believe it.
- 30:17Speaker 3: You know, it's hard to say. There's a lot of
- 30:21Speaker 3: you know, some ideas going out with the AI referee,
- 30:24Speaker 3: the video assisted referee kind of a thing. If they
- 30:29Speaker 3: bring this technology and we'll make it easier, keeping in
- 30:31Speaker 3: mind that the judges only have sixty seconds to reveal
- 30:35Speaker 3: this video in between rounds, Like if they say, oh,
- 30:38Speaker 3: I messed that up, but there's three minute rounds if
- 30:39Speaker 3: they have to review, like, how can they possible work?
- 30:42Speaker 2: You got to keep things where they are because at
- 30:44Speaker 2: the end of the day, let's thore has been a
- 30:48Speaker 2: hundred fights where the decision was in question. There's been
- 30:51Speaker 2: so many other fights with the fight where the decision
- 30:53Speaker 2: was fine. You know what I'm me and so I
- 30:55Speaker 2: think you're we're trying to make wholesale changes for like
- 30:59Speaker 2: one percent of issue, and I don't think that's fair
- 31:02Speaker 2: and I don't think that's right. People are people. People
- 31:04Speaker 2: will make mistakes something you're wrong, and there's been mistakes made. However,
- 31:07Speaker 2: AI is not gonna help that. I think that if
- 31:10Speaker 2: We're gonna have the human beings judge a fight. We
- 31:14Speaker 2: gotta live and die with their decisions. And that's just
- 31:17Speaker 2: how it has to be. We can't go to AI
- 31:20Speaker 2: to start deciding fight. That's a whole now you're talking
- 31:23Speaker 2: about You think it was bad before. Oh, they programmed
- 31:26Speaker 2: AI a certain way to judge.
- 31:28Speaker 3: To have this plan.
- 31:29Speaker 2: You can't win, like you, you can't win. Oh they
- 31:32Speaker 2: hacked AI so this fighter can win on a decision. Oh,
- 31:35Speaker 2: by the way, this fighter bet money that he win
- 31:37Speaker 2: on decision. So now he made Nope, Nope, can't you
- 31:41Speaker 2: can't do it. Keep it the way it has been.
- 31:43Speaker 2: We live with the results and we go forward. Has
- 31:45Speaker 2: it been robberies, Yes. Has there been some weird scorecards, yes,
- 31:51Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, boxing's boxing, and
- 31:53Speaker 2: everybody knows they sign up for and we all know
- 31:57Speaker 2: in certain places, you got to close the show. You
- 32:00Speaker 2: you cannot leave it up to the judges. If you
- 32:02Speaker 2: are a black boxer in Texas, I ever close the show.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Do not play games. Also, if you are a fighter
- 32:09Speaker 2: of someone else's hood, if you go to someone else's hometown,
- 32:13Speaker 2: you better win by ko. It is very tricky to
- 32:16Speaker 2: leave it to the cars. You want someone else's hometown.
- 32:19Speaker 2: If you do that and you try to leave to
- 32:20Speaker 2: the cars, you are living yourself up for disappointment. But
- 32:23Speaker 2: this is no this is no thing. So that's on
- 32:26Speaker 2: you if you make that mistake. I'm sorry, But everybody
- 32:29Speaker 2: who's watched boxing knows what it is.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a very good point. I mean, at the
- 32:34Speaker 3: end of the day. Yeah, if you think that you're
- 32:36Speaker 3: in an unfair position, there's always something you can do,
- 32:39Speaker 3: is go for the KO. That's always an option for you.
- 32:41Speaker 3: And maybe you can't get it, but you can try. Yeah,
- 32:45Speaker 3: I mean, And we have the luxury of seeing so
- 32:47Speaker 3: many different angles in a fight, you know, and TV,
- 32:49Speaker 3: thanks to the mobile cameras, the slow motion is that
- 32:52Speaker 3: replays the material in between the rounds. But don't forget
- 32:55Speaker 3: when the highlights get replayed during the one minute rest period,
- 32:58Speaker 3: the judges aren't even seen that. No, No, they're focused
- 33:01Speaker 3: on doing their job and they're sitting in one position.
- 33:04Speaker 3: They're not moving around, you know. And I don't know
- 33:06Speaker 3: if they even have access to the numbers. No, I know,
- 33:10Speaker 3: I don't believe so.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't even think they have access to those
- 33:12Speaker 2: I think they're able to watch the fight and they
- 33:14Speaker 2: make the decision based off of that. I don't know
- 33:16Speaker 2: if they've even able to talk to each other while
- 33:18Speaker 2: they're doing that.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I don't.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I don't even know. But yeah, I just honestly, if
- 33:24Speaker 2: we try to make things too perfect. Sports is not
- 33:26Speaker 2: about being perfect. I know we all want the best
- 33:29Speaker 2: results possible, but sports has never been about getting it perfect.
- 33:32Speaker 2: It never has been that way.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Sure, And like I said earlier, you know I do.
- 33:37Speaker 3: I can enjoy an NFL game when I'm watching it.
- 33:39Speaker 3: It's not something that I follow. But the thing that's
- 33:42Speaker 3: the reason I like boxing is that that ship is
- 33:45Speaker 3: high octane, NonStop. You know. The bad thing about football
- 33:49Speaker 3: is you got timeouts, you got to revel the ref
- 33:52Speaker 3: has to review the video. It's starting and stopping, starting
- 33:55Speaker 3: and stopping.
- 33:55Speaker 2: You know, you can't have that in a close fight.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Imagine a close fight around ten and they're going over
- 34:02Speaker 2: video for two minutes and everybody is restless. That ain't
- 34:04Speaker 2: gonna work, man, And in some places they start throwing
- 34:07Speaker 2: bottles and cups in the job. Well, you can't do that,
- 34:10Speaker 2: you can't, you can't.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think I think the thing that
- 34:15Speaker 3: makes it hard to score a fight is what makes
- 34:17Speaker 3: boxing amazing. You know, there's match ever gets paused.
- 34:22Speaker 2: No, no, no, I no, I agree with you. And
- 34:23Speaker 2: also you have to know the tendencies of the judges,
- 34:26Speaker 2: you know, and I think that comes from experience. So
- 34:28Speaker 2: if one judge is more prone to score power punch
- 34:34Speaker 2: more than just overall activity, you gotta be you gotta
- 34:37Speaker 2: buy it to that. Now, you have some judges that
- 34:39Speaker 2: just when I see overall activity, and that is what
- 34:42Speaker 2: works with them. So that comes down to you and
- 34:43Speaker 2: your camp and the research that they do. So a
- 34:45Speaker 2: lot of it comes from Austin's doing your homework and
- 34:48Speaker 2: you know, doing the job you're supposed to do.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, what's
- 34:53Speaker 3: supposed to be scored is does a punch land? You know,
- 34:55Speaker 3: does the land on the faces, the land of the
- 34:57Speaker 3: body if it gets blocked by your hand, under your
- 35:00Speaker 3: arm or your elbow. You know, that's not supposed to
- 35:02Speaker 3: be a point. But sometimes that shit is really hard
- 35:05Speaker 3: to notice when somebody's throwing a large, a big amount
- 35:08Speaker 3: of punches in a short amount of time. If there's
- 35:10Speaker 3: really fast fighters just throwing throwing bombs left and right.
- 35:14Speaker 3: You know a lot of that shit could get missed
- 35:16Speaker 3: and we could watch again, rewatch the highlights on Instagram, YouTube, whatever,
- 35:19Speaker 3: and say, obviously this guy all these punches were landing.
- 35:22Speaker 3: But you know, it's it's a high octane experience live
- 35:26Speaker 3: and human error is always going to be a thing,
- 35:29Speaker 3: and I think it diminishes the sport. If you bring
- 35:31Speaker 3: in the robots are going to review this, you know
- 35:33Speaker 3: they're they're gonna can't do that.
- 35:34Speaker 2: You can't. You can't. You can't break up the momentum
- 35:37Speaker 2: of a close fight by going to review. You can't
- 35:40Speaker 2: nless somebody gets hit in the private part. You can't.
- 35:43Speaker 2: You can't go and stop the fight in the eleventh
- 35:45Speaker 2: round when it's a closed fight. You just can't, like
- 35:47Speaker 2: the momentum. Getting that momentum back to where it was
- 35:50Speaker 2: is impossible.
- 35:52Speaker 3: I'm glad to mention that the only times I've seen
- 35:54Speaker 3: like a match get pause is somebody gets punching Dick
- 35:57Speaker 3: or the ladies the below the belt grow in the growing,
- 36:01Speaker 3: growing in the growing. There you go, somebody's mouthpiece falls
- 36:05Speaker 3: out and the ref stops it so they can put it.
- 36:06Speaker 3: But also sometimes they haven't even caught that.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Sometimes Crowns. Shout out to Dale Crowns. Very infamous mouthpiece
- 36:14Speaker 2: out the mouth the user there.
- 36:16Speaker 3: Yeah, And the other thing I've seen is uhh, when
- 36:20Speaker 3: a boxer's tape is coming off the glove. Yes, yep,
- 36:24Speaker 3: they'll let the they'll give the corner a chance to
- 36:25Speaker 3: retape the glove in between. But other than that, that
- 36:27Speaker 3: clockdown stop.
- 36:29Speaker 2: They don't stop. It doesn't need to. We're not here
- 36:31Speaker 2: for that. Like we're here, like you mentioned, we got
- 36:33Speaker 2: to fight. It has to go. It has to go.
- 36:36Speaker 2: But also in a close fight when both guys are
- 36:40Speaker 2: trading shots, you just can't get that momentum back right away.
- 36:44Speaker 2: They don't work that way. It doesn't, So I think
- 36:47Speaker 2: you keep things where they are. I'm cool with experimenting
- 36:50Speaker 2: with AI. I don't mind it, but you can't. There's
- 36:53Speaker 2: too much money on the line to rely on it
- 36:56Speaker 2: on a computer. Wait, that would be that would go bad.
- 36:59Speaker 3: That would if you want to bring it in, like
- 37:01Speaker 3: I said, just to kind of as an exercise as
- 37:04Speaker 3: the test run and see what it's like and have
- 37:05Speaker 3: something for the commentators to talk about afterwards. Cool, you
- 37:08Speaker 3: know whatever, do your thing. Oh headbuts I forgot to
- 37:10Speaker 3: mention headbuts another thing that yes, yes, accident, accidental headbuts
- 37:14Speaker 3: that'll stop around. I'll pause it. So yeah, otherwise, man
- 37:19Speaker 3: to hit this. This sport is go, go going. That's
- 37:21Speaker 3: what I love about it. You know, you gotta you
- 37:23Speaker 3: gotta give it your all for three minutes. And like
- 37:25Speaker 3: I said, I know the feeling of trying to survive
- 37:27Speaker 3: and try to stay on your feet when you're gassing.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Somebody's throwing wild, well trained and focused punches at your face.
- 37:34Speaker 3: That is correct, So I'm with you too. I try
- 37:37Speaker 3: not to jump at saying a fighter was robbed if
- 37:39Speaker 3: I disagree with the result, you know, I might say,
- 37:41Speaker 3: you know, I might say, well, maybe that this this
- 37:44Speaker 3: was controversial, but I wasn't going to tell it was
- 37:47Speaker 3: say it was intentionally scored badly so one fighter could
- 37:49Speaker 3: be protected or propped up. I would never say that,
- 37:52Speaker 3: except for the Tyson Fury versus Nagan who fight Francis
- 37:55Speaker 3: Nagano beat the brakes off that man one, but the
- 37:58Speaker 3: judges trying to keep Fury his record perfect for the
- 38:00Speaker 3: music fight and frances Gagana was robbed. God damaged justice
- 38:04Speaker 3: for friends and the Ganu.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yep, that's right, shout out to the nigan and the
- 38:08Speaker 2: camp I know, actually I know his I know the
- 38:10Speaker 2: person who runs his camp, so shout out to him.
- 38:12Speaker 2: But yes, with that being said, you are correct. He
- 38:15Speaker 2: did get robbed and brought everybody anyone who watched it.
- 38:17Speaker 2: That's a robbery. That's robber. There's been a lot of
- 38:19Speaker 2: robberies over the year, but that is a that's the
- 38:22Speaker 2: most recent one. Word like whoa like, are we all
- 38:24Speaker 2: watching the fight? Like what's going on here? So, yeah,
- 38:27Speaker 2: I'm with you on that.
- 38:28Speaker 3: At that point, the Furia Music fight was already scheduled,
- 38:31Speaker 3: so they wanted Fury to go in with a co record.
- 38:33Speaker 3: So and just.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Business overcomes everything in this game, Like the money is
- 38:39Speaker 2: always like it's funny you bring that up. So the
- 38:43Speaker 2: when I actually went to go see Danny fight amer Khan,
- 38:49Speaker 2: Americana was next to fight Floyd and that was a
- 38:51Speaker 2: big fighter at that time. Americana was a fast, flashy fighter,
- 38:54Speaker 2: h a lot of talent. You know, he had a
- 38:56Speaker 2: glass jaw and suspect chin uh. So he gets down,
- 39:00Speaker 2: you can see the ref like trying to tie him
- 39:02Speaker 2: up because that was the big money fighting and you
- 39:05Speaker 2: know he's from overseas, so he puts all the overseas
- 39:08Speaker 2: people with him. But he just last he got dropped
- 39:10Speaker 2: several times within four rounds, and that was the last
- 39:13Speaker 2: of him being a real contender, a mere con.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Always the brides maid, never the bride, is how I said?
- 39:20Speaker 3: Never never, Yeah, but cool, Yeah, I know. Well, let's
- 39:24Speaker 3: just see what happens on Friday, like I said, Saturday,
- 39:26Speaker 3: my bad. I'm very curious about this, this whole AI
- 39:30Speaker 3: refere aything and see what it means for this fighting
- 39:32Speaker 3: for the future. But now for our pop pugilism segment,
- 39:37Speaker 3: in which we discuss a boxing movie, TV show or documentary. Yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 3: ready for this this episode, we're talking about the movie
- 39:43Speaker 3: Big George Foreman from April April twenty twenty three, directed
- 39:47Speaker 3: by George Tillman Jr. And starring Chris Davis, an actor
- 39:50Speaker 3: who's done a lot of stage work and some small
- 39:52Speaker 3: roles in TV and movies. His first major starring role,
- 39:55Speaker 3: maybe his most memorable, was Tracy in the show Atlanta.
- 39:58Speaker 3: If you saw that, he was one of the guys
- 40:00Speaker 3: in Paper Boys Crew. And then the biggest name of
- 40:02Speaker 3: the cast is easily Forrest Whitaker as Georgie's trainer. So
- 40:06Speaker 3: the movie was another flop. The budget was thirty two
- 40:09Speaker 3: million and only made six million worldwide.
- 40:12Speaker 2: So and yeah, it wasn't good. The movie wasn't good.
- 40:15Speaker 2: It could have done it. They needed to cover so
- 40:18Speaker 2: many different things. It was too much. They spent way
- 40:23Speaker 2: too much on his childhood and not enough on the
- 40:25Speaker 2: after and the boxing was ad, but it was not done.
- 40:30Speaker 2: They needed a whole new script. They needed a whole
- 40:32Speaker 2: new script. It was not It wasn't it. And also
- 40:36Speaker 2: George deserved more. Like we don't talk about George the
- 40:38Speaker 2: boxer as much as we should. We don't for a
- 40:42Speaker 2: lot of different reasons. We tend to forget anything that
- 40:44Speaker 2: happened in the seventies and before. We don't talk about
- 40:47Speaker 2: like we just like it, doesn't even talk about it,
- 40:50Speaker 2: doesn't even mention it anymore. But with that being said,
- 40:54Speaker 2: we know George more for the grill and the cook
- 40:58Speaker 2: stuff than his bi and that's crazy because he is
- 41:01Speaker 2: a Hall of Fan boxer, one of the best heavyweights ever.
- 41:04Speaker 2: So but yeah, the movie couldn't They needed a new one.
- 41:08Speaker 2: They need to do a better movie because that wasn't it.
- 41:10Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not even joking here. I also don't
- 41:12Speaker 3: want to diminish the Grill because he is that is
- 41:14Speaker 3: quite literally the reason I did not start for death
- 41:16Speaker 3: in college. Quite honestly, this thing is Torman Grill.
- 41:19Speaker 2: So but yeah, little.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Background on George. You know, he's a hometown hero. He's
- 41:23Speaker 3: from Houston, as I am. Shout out to ahetown. Like
- 41:26Speaker 3: I said, he the reason I didn't starving college. He
- 41:29Speaker 3: was a heavyweight champion of the seventies, took ten years
- 41:31Speaker 3: off from boxing to become a Christian minister, started boxing
- 41:34Speaker 3: again in eighty seven at the age of thirty eight,
- 41:36Speaker 3: which is exactly how old I am, which brings me
- 41:38Speaker 3: a great shame for how I've wasted my life. And
- 41:42Speaker 3: he won the heavyweight championship belt again in nineteen ninety
- 41:45Speaker 3: four at the age of forty five when he knocked
- 41:47Speaker 3: out Michael Moore, who was only twenty six years old,
- 41:50Speaker 3: which makes me feel less shamed because it reminds me
- 41:52Speaker 3: that there's still like a chance to do something great
- 41:53Speaker 3: with my life in the next seven years. So but yeah,
- 41:57Speaker 3: the movie was fine.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Sorry, something no, I actually remember watching the fight. Last thing.
- 42:03Speaker 2: I actually remember watching it. I was like eight or
- 42:05Speaker 2: nine at the time, but I actually remember watching it
- 42:07Speaker 2: because it was like a big deal, Like it was
- 42:09Speaker 2: a huge deal of him winning. And then you know,
- 42:13Speaker 2: he said he's much older Michael Morris in his prime.
- 42:17Speaker 2: But no, it's something that unfortunately we see. He didn't
- 42:20Speaker 2: come back to fight because he wanted to. He came
- 42:23Speaker 2: back because he had to. And I think we're not
- 42:25Speaker 2: seeing that much now anymore because guys are making so
- 42:28Speaker 2: much more money, so it's a little different now. But
- 42:32Speaker 2: back then, the finances were different. They didn't have the
- 42:34Speaker 2: knowledge that we have today. So he had to come
- 42:37Speaker 2: back because the finances were tricky. Trusted someone he met
- 42:40Speaker 2: at job Court to handle his finances, which is never good.
- 42:43Speaker 3: But and you know so well, actually that part was
- 42:46Speaker 3: was totally made up for the movie. I don't know
- 42:48Speaker 3: if you knew that. I looked it up in the movie. Yeah,
- 42:51Speaker 3: he had a friend from job Court's childhood friend that
- 42:53Speaker 3: he hired to be his moneyman. The moneyman made some
- 42:57Speaker 3: bad financial decisions depleted his back out. But all of
- 43:00Speaker 3: that was made up because what really happened is George
- 43:03Speaker 3: just spent a lot of money on his youth center
- 43:04Speaker 3: and wasn't making enough profit and it all.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Oh okay, Yeah, basically the funds for Tricky. Oh yeah,
- 43:10Speaker 2: that makes sense.
- 43:11Speaker 3: But with that said, I mean, if you really have
- 43:13Speaker 3: to make up this whole thing to create drama in
- 43:16Speaker 3: the story, I think you're looking at the wrong parts
- 43:18Speaker 3: of the guy's life to create drama, you know what
- 43:20Speaker 3: I mean. Yes, I agree that the script is the
- 43:22Speaker 3: major issue. Chris Davis the League. I think he did
- 43:26Speaker 3: a fantastic job in the role.
- 43:28Speaker 2: So absolutely.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Yeah. He played George from when he was seventeen all
- 43:31Speaker 3: the way till when he was forty five, and he
- 43:34Speaker 3: went through a wild physical transformation. He got jacked to
- 43:37Speaker 3: play young Georgian, and he actually put on all that
- 43:39Speaker 3: weight to be big, fat old man George. I saw clippery.
- 43:43Speaker 3: He said he put on fifty pounds in five weeks
- 43:45Speaker 3: for the role.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Oh wow.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Yeah, he was working with the dietician who told him
- 43:49Speaker 3: four thousand calories on days when he wasn't working out,
- 43:52Speaker 3: six thousand on days when he was, and seven thousand
- 43:55Speaker 3: on days when he was on set.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Wow.
- 43:58Speaker 3: I mean I can imagine, because I probably done that
- 44:00Speaker 3: in my life most of those crazy Yeah, and I'm
- 44:06Speaker 3: sure the man's not eating fucking big bags. You know,
- 44:08Speaker 3: I'm sure he's a.
- 44:10Speaker 2: That's just a lot of food, Like, that's a lot, Like,
- 44:12Speaker 2: I don't know if you understand how much a serving
- 44:14Speaker 2: of things are. That's a lot of food. Yeah, but
- 44:18Speaker 2: that makes sense though because in five weeks the game
- 44:20Speaker 2: fifty Yeah, now that Yeah, the basically you're eating like
- 44:24Speaker 2: basically eating like double meals, right, so if you have breakfast,
- 44:27Speaker 2: you're eating like two omelets you have one, you're having
- 44:31Speaker 2: two burgers or two sandwich like, so I guessed it. Damn,
- 44:34Speaker 2: that's that's a lot. But he was fine. The acting
- 44:37Speaker 2: wasn't here the thing. The acting was cool. The script
- 44:40Speaker 2: was just awful, Like we didn't need to know George
- 44:43Speaker 2: was poor for the first forty five minutes of the movie,
- 44:45Speaker 2: like we knew that, we knew what it was. The
- 44:47Speaker 2: first fifteen minutes. We could have cut it on more boxing.
- 44:50Speaker 2: There could have been more more on his life with
- 44:55Speaker 2: his first wife, and they can even more with that.
- 44:58Speaker 2: It felt like it was all right, he's poor, he's poor,
- 45:01Speaker 2: he's poor, he comes up with boxing, and then he's
- 45:05Speaker 2: he's those the Olympics and then now he's that weight
- 45:07Speaker 2: champion in a couple more months. It was there was
- 45:10Speaker 2: no character developed, there was on nothing. It was it
- 45:12Speaker 2: was rushed. I think that movie was rushed. I just
- 45:15Speaker 2: say that we shoot because that ain't it. The movie
- 45:18Speaker 2: is just over two hours.
- 45:19Speaker 3: The first hour is his entire first boxing career from
- 45:23Speaker 3: when he was a kid and to when he was
- 45:25Speaker 3: a champion when he lost to Muhammad Ali at the
- 45:27Speaker 3: Remolu Jungle. And it was just way too quick because
- 45:30Speaker 3: then it was about forty minutes of him becoming a
- 45:32Speaker 3: minister and starting his youth center and then the last
- 45:35Speaker 3: like twenty twenty five boxing again, it was just kind
- 45:39Speaker 3: of starting stop. You know, it's like you're you're waiting
- 45:41Speaker 3: for the movie to really get started and it's just
- 45:44Speaker 3: ends up going another direction.
- 45:46Speaker 2: It was.
- 45:46Speaker 3: It was just kind of hard to just hard to
- 45:48Speaker 3: get invested, you.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Know, at home, very very much.
- 45:51Speaker 3: So yeah, I will say it because we I watched
- 45:55Speaker 3: and we talked about Ali a couple of episodes episodes ago.
- 45:58Speaker 3: It was kind of cool seeing the other side of
- 46:00Speaker 3: it because Alien's with the Rumbling Jungle against George Foreman
- 46:05Speaker 3: and you can kind of see, you know, they have
- 46:06Speaker 3: an actor playing Muhammed Aldi who I think did a
- 46:08Speaker 3: good job. So that was that was fun as you
- 46:10Speaker 3: kind of get to see it's it's like two sides
- 46:13Speaker 3: of the same period, time period and the people's lives
- 46:17Speaker 3: in different movies.
- 46:18Speaker 2: That that that was pretty cool. So also he should
- 46:21Speaker 2: know what to Africa fight. That was never that was
- 46:23Speaker 2: never gonna win to be good on his end, you
- 46:25Speaker 2: don't fight someone who had the situation Mom and Ali
- 46:29Speaker 2: had back then and go to Africa.
- 46:31Speaker 3: That.
- 46:31Speaker 2: I would have never signed up for that one. I
- 46:33Speaker 2: would have said the state side, even with the Europe
- 46:35Speaker 2: But there's no one. How I'm going. Is I here
- 46:38Speaker 2: for that one? There's no way.
- 46:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess the the biggest criticism I could probably
- 46:43Speaker 3: give is that it doesn't give any real insight into
- 46:45Speaker 3: who George Foreman is or was you know true? Yeah?
- 46:49Speaker 3: So out of out of four gloves, how would you
- 46:52Speaker 3: rate this movie?
- 46:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna be nice today, I'm feeling holidays. Yeah, I'm
- 46:57Speaker 2: gonna go one point seventy five.
- 47:00Speaker 3: I decided to give it two, so we're about there, okay.
- 47:02Speaker 3: I was also being very generous because again, Chris Davis's
- 47:05Speaker 3: performance fantastic. I think he deserved a better movie. You know,
- 47:10Speaker 3: that performance deserved a better movie around it. So Yeah,
- 47:12Speaker 3: that's two gloves, you know, not great, not terrible. Maybe
- 47:17Speaker 3: if you if you really care about George Foreman, if
- 47:19Speaker 3: you really are into the guy, then maybe there's something
- 47:22Speaker 3: you can learn about him. But maybe watch a documentary instead.
- 47:26Speaker 3: We'll talk, Maybe we'll find one to talk about on
- 47:27Speaker 3: the show.
- 47:28Speaker 2: There need to be more about the business stuff because
- 47:31Speaker 2: he's known way too much for that. That had to
- 47:33Speaker 2: be a footnote in this thing.
- 47:35Speaker 3: You just excuse me.
- 47:38Speaker 2: You can't have the banker talking about, oh yeah, the
- 47:39Speaker 2: little growth thing you did. It turned out like, nah man,
- 47:43Speaker 2: like you are a worldwide name because of that. There
- 47:46Speaker 2: should have been more going into that. That should have
- 47:48Speaker 2: been we should knew how that started, right, There should
- 47:50Speaker 2: have been Hey, at a meeting with a guy, you know,
- 47:53Speaker 2: he says this, I grow a lot. It should have
- 47:55Speaker 2: been something. But it was all, yeah, that growth thing.
- 47:57Speaker 2: It turned nah man.
- 47:59Speaker 3: It was just you're getting some divins on the grill
- 48:02Speaker 3: and that's it. I was pumping my fist again because again,
- 48:05Speaker 3: the grill is very important to me. So I was like,
- 48:07Speaker 3: I was doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point at the screen
- 48:09Speaker 3: and then nothing else. So I think that, yeah, that
- 48:11Speaker 3: would have been a cool story. I think the movie
- 48:14Speaker 3: was sort of hyper focused on the religious aspect of
- 48:17Speaker 3: his life and they wanted to put that, you know forward,
- 48:21Speaker 3: which fine, whatever, but I think that's way less interesting
- 48:24Speaker 3: than Yeah, George Forman the businessman in his later life.
- 48:26Speaker 2: But definitely but yeah.
- 48:30Speaker 3: For the second part of our pop Pugilism segment, it's
- 48:32Speaker 3: a shorter chat about an upcoming movie called The Fire Inside.
- 48:35Speaker 3: So it's pretty cool to be able to talk about
- 48:37Speaker 3: a new movie that's coming soon. This movie opens on
- 48:40Speaker 3: Christmas Day, twenty twenty four. It's another biopick about a
- 48:43Speaker 3: boxer named Clarissa Shields who is an excellent fighter nick
- 48:47Speaker 3: Damus t Rex, but she's also referred to as the
- 48:49Speaker 3: quote greatest woman of all time. She won a gold
- 48:52Speaker 3: medal for boxing at the twenty twelve Olympics, which is
- 48:54Speaker 3: the first year women's boxing even became an Olympic event.
- 48:57Speaker 3: So this is a different type of biopick because most
- 48:59Speaker 3: of the these movies are about athletes who are either
- 49:01Speaker 3: very old or very dead, and she's neither. Yeah, she's
- 49:04Speaker 3: only twenty nine, she's still actively fighting. In fact, her
- 49:07Speaker 3: next fight is scheduled for February second twenty twenty five. So,
- 49:11Speaker 3: but the movie is about the period when she was
- 49:12Speaker 3: a teenager and prepping for the twenty twelve Olympics, as
- 49:15Speaker 3: well as what happened after she won the middle Did
- 49:17Speaker 3: you get to watch the trailer?
- 49:18Speaker 2: Jameson, I have seen the trailer, and if I'm not mistaken,
- 49:21Speaker 2: I think she's in the news for some other stuff
- 49:24Speaker 2: as well. But no, I can't. I am waiting for
- 49:27Speaker 2: her movie coming out next week. That'll be interesting. But
- 49:30Speaker 2: she Yeah, she's in the middle of a weird dating
- 49:34Speaker 2: triangle right now. That's kind of hot. But ask neither
- 49:36Speaker 2: here nor there.
- 49:37Speaker 3: Well, but it isn't here another but I have not
- 49:39Speaker 3: heard about this? Do you can you give me for information?
- 49:41Speaker 3: Because ummmm, then we want to go down that route.
- 49:45Speaker 2: But so if I'm not mistaken, hold on, let me
- 49:51Speaker 2: just double check here.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Yeah, let's make sure we do know slender.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Okay, I want I want to be professional. So the
- 50:00Speaker 2: rapper Pat Poos, who was married to the rapper named
- 50:03Speaker 2: Remy maf for those who like East Coast rap. They
- 50:07Speaker 2: were married together for a while. They had a child
- 50:09Speaker 2: or two together. They recently broke up. Pat Poos is
- 50:13Speaker 2: now with Chris the shields, and it's been a lot
- 50:16Speaker 2: of back and forth over the last week. So it's
- 50:18Speaker 2: very interesting that you bring that name up because that's
- 50:22Speaker 2: all happened in the last like four or five days.
- 50:24Speaker 3: Oh really, wow, ironic that you do well, you know.
- 50:29Speaker 3: And another thing about me personally is when it comes
- 50:31Speaker 3: to you know, I love boxing, I love following boxers.
- 50:33Speaker 3: I love following fighters, learning about them and analyze. But
- 50:37Speaker 3: I've never given a shit about their personal lives. It's
- 50:39Speaker 3: like I don't care, so I don't know a lot
- 50:41Speaker 3: about it.
- 50:42Speaker 2: I try to separate the personal life from the craft,
- 50:45Speaker 2: and I do that with all celebrities unless they do
- 50:47Speaker 2: so unless they're accused of doing something egregious. I try
- 50:51Speaker 2: to keep the personal life and the work life separate.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Well, that's and that's fair. I just I never I
- 51:00Speaker 3: actively avoid learning more about people's personal lives. You know,
- 51:03Speaker 3: they're they're a celebrity and actor, and you know, sometimes
- 51:06Speaker 3: you just can't avoid it because there's you know, some
- 51:09Speaker 3: let's be real, most celebrities accept the classy alcoholics comebacks.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Really they really are, and you're never on that one.
- 51:16Speaker 2: I go the other way. I think most are boring, Okay, Okay,
- 51:19Speaker 2: they're actually cool, but they're boring, like most are. Just
- 51:22Speaker 2: the thing I think people don't understand. Mostly the slups
- 51:25Speaker 2: is regular people. They just have more money and they're
- 51:28Speaker 2: more known. But most of these folks they just they
- 51:30Speaker 2: got regular people problems too. They got their kids from school,
- 51:33Speaker 2: they got to go to target, make a target run
- 51:35Speaker 2: because something ran out. Also, a lot of these slub
- 51:38Speaker 2: think got the money you think they do. Like, that's
- 51:40Speaker 2: the other thing. Lot of sleds be broke. They be
- 51:42Speaker 2: trying to do too much. Lot of celebrities be eating
- 51:44Speaker 2: the same home cooked meals that we do. Yeah, well,
- 51:47Speaker 2: the ones with big money.
- 51:48Speaker 3: That also gives you a little bit of I guess
- 51:50Speaker 3: freedom to to think you're invincible, to you know, get
- 51:53Speaker 3: up to some sc comeback shit, you know. But there's
- 51:55Speaker 3: nothing We're not telling people anything they don't know. You know.
- 51:58Speaker 3: We've heard the stories about so many selebrities. Stuff comes
- 52:01Speaker 3: out that they are just creeps behind the scenes. But yeah,
- 52:04Speaker 3: I mean I remember when when Canelo got married, every
- 52:07Speaker 3: time that there was a new New Canelo news story,
- 52:09Speaker 3: I was like, man, I don't give a shit about
- 52:10Speaker 3: his wedding. I want to see when he's fighting next
- 52:12Speaker 3: you know what's going on.
- 52:13Speaker 2: It was just man, when you're a celebrity and you
- 52:15Speaker 2: get married like we've been this way, Travis Kelcey and
- 52:18Speaker 2: Taylor Swimp been talked about for the last couple of years.
- 52:20Speaker 2: That's true, and now I'm married.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Travis Kelsey might be the only current NFL player I know,
- 52:26Speaker 3: to be quite honest with you, of the current players.
- 52:29Speaker 3: But my point getting back to the to the movie
- 52:32Speaker 3: The Fire Inside, Yeah, I'm excited about the movie. I'm
- 52:34Speaker 3: gonna be seeing it. It's it's opening Christmas Day or
- 52:37Speaker 3: are you gonna be checking it out?
- 52:38Speaker 2: I can definitely get the fire stick out for it.
- 52:40Speaker 2: I don't have the seventeen fifty four and I don't
- 52:43Speaker 2: have that, but I definitely got the fire stick for
- 52:45Speaker 2: it for sure.
- 52:45Speaker 3: Shout out to AMC stuffs. Maybe I pay that subscription.
- 52:48Speaker 3: It's three movies a week for twenty bucks a month,
- 52:50Speaker 3: so I'm already yeah. And then they're actually playing it.
- 52:52Speaker 3: It's it comes out Christmas Day, but MIAMC is playing
- 52:54Speaker 3: at Christmas Eve, so I'll be doing that, be checking
- 52:57Speaker 3: that out and then checking out fed out too ontay.
- 53:00Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, the movie's already been reviewed by
- 53:03Speaker 3: twenty five critics, so it's got a ninety five percent
- 53:05Speaker 3: on Rotten Tomatoes. From that number, it's not a big
- 53:07Speaker 3: number of critics, but hey, you know it might be popular.
- 53:11Speaker 3: It's it has to be a low budget movie because
- 53:15Speaker 3: the biggest name in that is Brian Tyree Henry, also
- 53:17Speaker 3: from Atlanta. He plays paper Boy, right, you know that show.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Not to say that you know these actors, directors, et cetera.
- 53:24Speaker 3: You know they're not that they're not couldn't actually make
- 53:27Speaker 3: a great movie. Low budget movies can be awesome, but
- 53:31Speaker 3: this movie couldn't have cost a lot of money. So hey, plus,
- 53:34Speaker 3: it's a it's a inspiring story, triumph of for adversity.
- 53:39Speaker 3: We know she doesn't die tragically at the end. So
- 53:42Speaker 3: if you want to watch an inspiring Christmas movie with
- 53:46Speaker 3: your family, you know, this could scratch that itch. It
- 53:48Speaker 3: doesn't matter if she's a boxer or a tennis player
- 53:50Speaker 3: or whatever. You know the story it's putting forward. It
- 53:53Speaker 3: might just be something that people want to come out
- 53:55Speaker 3: for this season. So, you know, Fingers Crossed. I hope
- 53:58Speaker 3: it does well because you know, she's a phenomenal athlete.
- 54:01Speaker 3: It's a phenomenal story, and I think there should be
- 54:04Speaker 3: more stories about boxes out there in the theaters. Plus,
- 54:06Speaker 3: we need we need more low budget, mid budget movies.
- 54:10Speaker 3: You know, not everything can be one hundred million dollars
- 54:13Speaker 3: TGA superhero thing. So I want movies like this to exist,
- 54:17Speaker 3: and you know, maybe we'll talk about it in the
- 54:21Speaker 3: next episode for the next New Year. Actually exactly. So
- 54:26Speaker 3: all right, let's finish this up with the mailbag segment.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Shout out to Edwin l who he actually he went
- 54:35Speaker 3: above and beyond. He sent us like ten questions, so
- 54:37Speaker 3: we're gonna be milking that for a while. But this
- 54:40Speaker 3: one actually is one that I don't really have a
- 54:43Speaker 3: very good answer for. It's something that more for your
- 54:45Speaker 3: knowledge base, Jameson. So the question is what changes would
- 54:49Speaker 3: you make to the sport if you could be a
- 54:51Speaker 3: boxing commissioner for a day?
- 54:54Speaker 2: Good, that's right question.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And for me, like I'm not, I wouldn't call
- 54:58Speaker 3: myself a boxing expert in the big that I love,
- 55:00Speaker 3: you know, watching and analyzing, but you know the business
- 55:04Speaker 3: of it, that's more your expertise. So I kind of
- 55:05Speaker 3: want to flow to you.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I would lessen the fees on the sanctions on like
- 55:11Speaker 2: the belts, because I keep hearing about that being an
- 55:13Speaker 2: issue in the federations is basically price gouging guys for fights.
- 55:19Speaker 2: I would lessen that. That'd be one thing I wouldn't
- 55:22Speaker 2: I would make more incentives for guys to fight. I
- 55:24Speaker 2: think that if I was a boxing commissioner, I would
- 55:27Speaker 2: go with all the TV networks and get my product
- 55:29Speaker 2: out more. The biggest issue that boxing is having is
- 55:32Speaker 2: that it's direct competitor. Even though it's not as good,
- 55:36Speaker 2: It's on TV a lot more UFCS on TV every week.
- 55:40Speaker 2: There's UFC events every week, whether they're good or bad, whatever.
- 55:44Speaker 2: There's a card in a major city or a big
- 55:46Speaker 2: city gamn near every weekend. And we need our boxers
- 55:51Speaker 2: to fight more. I'm not saying I gotta fight every
- 55:52Speaker 2: other month, That's not what I'm saying. But our guys
- 55:55Speaker 2: got to be more active. We should not have guys
- 55:58Speaker 2: being on eighteen month layout without that should not happen.
- 56:02Speaker 2: I would try to enforce and a centivize guys being
- 56:05Speaker 2: more active. Whatever it takes for that, I would do.
- 56:08Speaker 2: But also I would make it more accessible for the
- 56:12Speaker 2: fans to watch fights without having to go get a
- 56:15Speaker 2: fire stick without having to get illegal links. I would
- 56:18Speaker 2: try to get all the TV networks together and try
- 56:20Speaker 2: to make something makes sense, because the biggest issue is
- 56:23Speaker 2: that the boxers that we know from being way back
- 56:27Speaker 2: when they fought so much and they were readily available.
- 56:32Speaker 2: It's the exact opposite now the fires are fighting. The
- 56:34Speaker 2: less you gotta you gotta pay a lot more to view.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Then Mom and a Lee was like on CBS and
- 56:40Speaker 2: fighting whatever ABC back in the day when he fought.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Mike Tyson was on some of our pay reviews, but
- 56:46Speaker 2: some of them are also on regular HBO and whatever
- 56:48Speaker 2: else was out back then. So those are things I
- 56:51Speaker 2: get back to making our product more accessible. So I
- 56:54Speaker 2: would definitely try to get with the network where's streaming,
- 56:57Speaker 2: where there's TV whatever, to make deal to where we
- 57:01Speaker 2: have boxing on a lot. There's one period of time
- 57:04Speaker 2: where box is not on that much where it should be.
- 57:07Speaker 2: There should be a fight every weekend during the summer.
- 57:09Speaker 2: There's no fall going on, there's basketball's over, there's an
- 57:12Speaker 2: everybody talk about, Oh it's slow, there's nothing on TV.
- 57:15Speaker 2: It's just baseball. We ship every weekend should be fights.
- 57:18Speaker 2: It should be fights every weekend from Royal Day to
- 57:21Speaker 2: Mexican Independence Day. There should be fights every weekend because
- 57:25Speaker 2: that's a period of time and you can galvanize the
- 57:28Speaker 2: average person to tune in, like, oh damn, next week
- 57:31Speaker 2: that fight. I'm gonna tune in. Next week's that fight.
- 57:34Speaker 2: That's how the UFC is doing it.
- 57:35Speaker 3: Now.
- 57:35Speaker 2: I don't like to I'm not a UFC fan. I
- 57:37Speaker 2: respect what they do. I don't get down with that. However,
- 57:40Speaker 2: if you have enough fights, people are gonna be like, oh,
- 57:42Speaker 2: let me take a look at that. Okay, that's on ESPN.
- 57:45Speaker 2: I don't have to order it. Oh that's on file okay.
- 57:48Speaker 2: And that's how you gain fans. Boxing is taking his
- 57:52Speaker 2: audience for granted, all one hundred dollars for pay per view.
- 57:55Speaker 2: They'll pay it six dours pay per view for a
- 57:57Speaker 2: guy that's have a belt or guy that only have
- 57:59Speaker 2: twenty fights, I'll pay it. Nah. We need to bring
- 58:01Speaker 2: the fans back, We need to do more for the fans,
- 58:04Speaker 2: and so that happens, we're gonna keep ont have the
- 58:06Speaker 2: same discussions we always have.
- 58:08Speaker 3: That's a phenomenal answer, and I agree with you one
- 58:11Speaker 3: hundred percent. You know, we've talked on the show about
- 58:13Speaker 3: how there's not as many fights. And back in the
- 58:15Speaker 3: day HBO Friday night fights, that shit was on all
- 58:18Speaker 3: the time. And there was a period when I was
- 58:20Speaker 3: away from boxing because I couldn't afford it, couldn't afford
- 58:23Speaker 3: to go out to barlows playing it.
- 58:25Speaker 2: When fights went from fifty to like one hundred bucks
- 58:29Speaker 2: man like, and again you can get a couple of buddies,
- 58:32Speaker 2: got everybody chips saying that's cool and all, but that
- 58:35Speaker 2: gets old, especially for the fights that aren't good, like
- 58:38Speaker 2: if it's a big name, of course it is what
- 58:40Speaker 2: it is, but why are we paying like sixty bucks
- 58:43Speaker 2: for guys that just aren't just no, like we're not
- 58:46Speaker 2: non yes, And.
- 58:48Speaker 3: If you happen to be like a you know, teenager
- 58:51Speaker 3: guy in his early twenties who moved from Texas to
- 58:53Speaker 3: Arizona and didn't have any friends for many many years
- 58:55Speaker 3: to get together to watch boxing, but that's a bummer too.
- 58:58Speaker 3: Nobody's gonna pitch in for a hundre dollar match. You're
- 59:00Speaker 3: just sh out of luck, just being broken home alone
- 59:03Speaker 3: and said, which you hear.
- 59:05Speaker 2: And again, I think there's a pathway to have a
- 59:08Speaker 2: lot more fights on television. I think it also includes
- 59:11Speaker 2: all motion companies being on the same page, got the
- 59:14Speaker 2: networks on the same page. Everybody's incentivized, everybody makes some money.
- 59:17Speaker 2: But I'm not gonna be on the same page because
- 59:18Speaker 2: right now it's too many agendas. There's too many agendas
- 59:22Speaker 2: going on, and it hasn't helped anyone. It hasn't. Everyone's
- 59:24Speaker 2: kind of going their own way. And the sad part
- 59:27Speaker 2: is we're talking about Canelo Crawford being the biggest fight.
- 59:31Speaker 2: Both of those guys on the verge of heading out
- 59:33Speaker 2: the door, like they're not gonna be around five more years.
- 59:35Speaker 2: That's not happening. We are on fight to fight basis.
- 59:38Speaker 2: We kind of both of them. You know, I think
- 59:39Speaker 2: Canela hands around a little bit longer. But we're you know,
- 59:42Speaker 2: we're we've seen the most of his career. Like if
- 59:46Speaker 2: he were making announcement saying, hey, twenty five my last year,
- 59:50Speaker 2: no one would be surprised, not at all, you know,
- 59:52Speaker 2: And I think that's a problem. But also in the past,
- 59:55Speaker 2: we saw up and coming fighters. We saw that, we
- 59:58Speaker 2: saw their progression. We saw when they were eight to
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: oh to seventeen and oh to twenty four to oh.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: We don't see that anymore. It's get tossed in the
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: ring and then whatever happens happens. That's not how you
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: build fighters. That's not how you do it. So it
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: would be good to see everybody on the same page,
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: especially with the unique streaming possibilities that we have now
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: that hey, let's make this for the fans. Let's get
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: people interested in our product. If you have fights every
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: week and their free fights or fights when people can watch,
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: I think you got action. I really do.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: But see, here's the problem with those fighters that are
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: eight and oh they're on your way out now. They
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: are on the undercard and can only be seen by
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: paying ESPN Plus, not ESPN on TV. So that's going
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: back to the same thing.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: With ESPN Plus, it's not as bad, right because one
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: it's kind of cheaper. It's kind of cheap, but it's
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: not anything crazy. Why, it's not the end of the world.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: So with ESPN Plus, you can get Bob Plus, you
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: get somebody, you can get some of the other things.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: When you have ESPN Plus, you get like Dizzey, you
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: can get Hulu, so you can make that shape. But
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: the whole paying forty nine a m that's just.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: Not a possible this is not great. Well, this episode's
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: running kind of long. Button We'll call it a Christmas
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: present for the listeners. So let's wrap it up and
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: tell me, Jamison, where can people find you? On social media?
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: On Twitter at the Jamison with two Ease. I'm always
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: on there. Love the response people gave us thus far
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: to our episodes. It's definitely cool to do this every
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: other week talk boxing. We don't have a lot of
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: people talk boxing with, so it's always cool just to
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: talk just about everything, not necessarily just the fights, to
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: break down the fights, but the why, the how, the
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: experience is always cool. So yeah, we're open everything. So
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: I'm definitely happy to be here. And Kelly twenty five
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: brings I'm.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: Excited, so follow me the Classy Alcoholic on Instagram and
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Blue Sky quick post or quick plug. Rather, I had
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: a blog called the Classyalcoholic dot net because I can't
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: afford to dot com, where I was writing about craft beer, spirits, wine,
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: and at some point I started writing short stories on
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: there with the character the Classy Alcoholic fighting like robots
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: and ninjas and kind of ridiculous shit for fun. And
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: I wrote a story in twenty twenty one called Classy
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: Saves Christmas. I'm actually reposting it for the holiday season,
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: so go to the Classyalcoholic dot net. It's a three
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: part story. You can see all the parts are there
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: up there and link to each other. So it was
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun to write.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: It's probably the thing I'm most proud of to have written.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: So please check that out. Superhero Now, what's up your
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: superhero Now? I've always been a hero to the working class,
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: of downtrodden and the very very drunk. But please subscribe
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: to this show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Amazon Music.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: Leave us a five star review. It only takes a
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: minute and it helps out more than you could possibly know.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: And the stay tuned because two thursdays from now we
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: will be back with the first episode of twenty twenty five.

- 1:02:50Speaker 3: have fun, drink hard, stay safe, and
