- 0:03Welcome to She Consider a Field podcast with coach, encourager, and fellow
- 0:08entrepreneur and homeschooling mama of four, Anna McLaughlin.
- 0:11As a homeschooling entrepreneur, you are uniquely positioned to impact the kingdom
- 0:16of God, both deep through your investment in your children and wide through your
- 0:20business.
- 0:21And yet guilt, frustration, and overwhelm can hold you back from all that God has
- 0:26for you.
- 0:27Come with me on a journey to walk in deeper peace, purpose, and joy.
- 0:32because God has given you a legacy to build and I'm here to help you enjoy the
- 0:37ride.
- 0:41Hello and welcome to the latest episode of She Considered a Field.
- 0:45Somehow it's June.
- 0:46I don't understand it myself, but somehow it is June when you are listening to this
- 0:49recording.
- 0:50And today we're going to talk about a very important topic and I want you to hang
- 0:54with me and be willing to sit really curious because we're going to talk about
- 0:59tips to increase your income this summer.
- 1:04Okay.
- 1:05I know how it goes, even as homeschool moms, and I know some of you guys who
- 1:09listen are not homeschool moms.
- 1:10But we can tend to kind of think, well, you know, it's summertime.
- 1:14It's time to hang out with the kids.
- 1:15It's time to relax.
- 1:16But then we hit the fall and we start to feel really scarce and we start to feel a
- 1:21lot of doubt.
- 1:22And so this is the time that I'm actually going to encourage you women of faith to
- 1:27lean in to your businesses, to lean into good stewardship, even in the midst of
- 1:34play.
- 1:35We need play.
- 1:36We need rest.
- 1:36We need levity in our lives.
- 1:38But
- 1:39What can happen is we can kind of like start to go too far in one ditch, too far
- 1:46in another.
- 1:47I started a new business in the fall of last year and went full bore, all in.
- 1:55And then I started this podcast at the beginning of this year.
- 1:59And y 'all, I was like, I need a break.
- 2:01I need a break from my business.
- 2:02Well, guess what happened?
- 2:03When I took a break from my other business, I started to lose belief.
- 2:09that I knew how to do it.
- 2:10And then the more that I lost belief, the less I did in the business.
- 2:15And the less I did in the business, the more it fueled the unbelief until I
- 2:18reached a point where I looked at my husband and said, I don't know how to earn
- 2:20an income there.
- 2:21I made the whole thing up.
- 2:23Made the whole thing up.
- 2:26Keeping in motion sustains our belief.
- 2:30So rest, by all means rest.
- 2:35But take this podcast as your opportunity to rest with intention.
- 2:42And what I mean by that is set the table for your summer.
- 2:46Make a decision ahead of time.
- 2:47Here is how this summer will play out as far as my work and my rest.
- 2:53Here is the balance that's going to suit our family well, leaving lots of space for
- 2:58play, leaving lots of space for warm days at the pool, leaving lots of space for
- 3:02trips to the beach or whatever the summertime looks like for your family.
- 3:06And if you're going to the beach, y 'all know I have a place at Oak Island, North
- 3:10Carolina.
- 3:10Message me if you want the code for that, okay?
- 3:12Actually, I'll drop it in the show notes, even better.
- 3:14Okay, so we're talking about strategies for increasing our income, because I don't
- 3:19know if anybody else has noticed, but it's getting kind of tight out there.
- 3:22grocery prices are rising, inflation's up.
- 3:25So many people are either looking for an alternative stream of income or are
- 3:31looking for ways to maximize their current stream of income.
- 3:34So we're gonna spend some time during the summer talking about money.
- 3:38This is a topic I think women of God, I think we can get a little skittish around
- 3:43because there can almost be this pie in the sky like, whatever happens, happens
- 3:47and the Lord will provide.
- 3:48Yes, he will.
- 3:49Yes, he will provide.
- 3:51but so too are we called to labor.
- 3:54Okay.
- 3:54And so we kind of work out our walk with him with intention.
- 4:01And as women of faith earn an income, a couple of things happen.
- 4:06And listen, if there happens to be somebody who's listening to a podcast
- 4:11called, She Consider a Field, who doesn't feel called to the marketplace, I'm so
- 4:16glad you're here.
- 4:16Welcome.
- 4:17Be part of the conversation as long as it serves you like this is for you too.
- 4:21But this specific episode, we're talking about money.
- 4:24So here we go.
- 4:25Money and work.
- 4:27If you feel called to the marketplace, when as you step into greater service and
- 4:35you allow people to compensate you for your service, first, you're actually
- 4:42carrying out the role of paraclete with your husband.
- 4:46in another respect.
- 4:47There are many ways that we support our husbands.
- 4:50There are many ways that we stand alongside them and be that help me that
- 4:54we're called to be, okay, that as are that we're called to be.
- 4:58But one of the ways can be financial.
- 5:00And I will never forget, there was this fabulous, fabulous post that was making
- 5:05its rounds in social media like a year or so ago.
- 5:07And it talked about as a wife that we need to understand what our what our particular
- 5:14spouse needs.
- 5:16what their top supports would be, their top picks.
- 5:20And so I asked my husband, and this post recommended ask for his top three.
- 5:25I can't do everything well, but I can do three things well.
- 5:28What are the three things?
- 5:29Okay.
- 5:30And when I asked my husband for the three things, one of them was make time for your
- 5:36work because when you earn an income, it lifts the burden off of my shoulders.
- 5:42And it kind of blew my mind.
- 5:43I was like, what?
- 5:44And like my husband's an amazing provider, he takes his role very seriously.
- 5:48He wasn't saying, good, I can sit on the couch and relax.
- 5:51He was saying this burden weighs so heavily on me, making sure that our
- 5:55children are well provided for, making sure that I'm tending to our flock well.
- 5:59That when I know you're in motion too, it's actually easing the burden on my
- 6:04shoulders.
- 6:04Now this is not going to be every spouse, but it's mine.
- 6:08Okay.
- 6:09And I think that more often,
- 6:11More often than not, our men do carry this provider burden.
- 6:14And so when we say, here's a couple hundred dollars.
- 6:18Hey, I earned 500 bucks last month in my business.
- 6:20And I thought maybe that could cover, you know, going out for a date night a couple
- 6:25of times this month or whatever it is.
- 6:26There can be this like, this exhale breath for our partners that can be very
- 6:32powerful.
- 6:33The other thing that happens is when the money comes into the family coffers of a
- 6:37Christian home,
- 6:39we get to use that money to advance the kingdom of God.
- 6:42My husband and I were just talking about this the other day.
- 6:44Won't it be fun when we can be radically generous in this way?
- 6:48Won't it be so fun when we can provide for other people in this way?
- 6:52God's purposes can be advanced in powerful ways whenever his children have resources.
- 6:59And that resources, those resources may be financial, they may be hospitality, it
- 7:05might be love and grace, it might be all kinds of things, but this is one way.
- 7:08that we can advance the kingdom of God.
- 7:11So we're going to kind of like, we'll tussle with money stories over the coming
- 7:15weeks and months.
- 7:16But today we're going to keep it really simple.
- 7:18And we're just going to talk about how do we bring money in?
- 7:22What does that look like?
- 7:23And we're actually going to start with the backside of it, which is one of the most
- 7:28powerful ways that we can bring money in is actually by regarding it as precious
- 7:32and reducing our expenses.
- 7:35So I was actually just, I have a coach myself and there was a period of time
- 7:40where I didn't have one.
- 7:41It's been so fun to have one supporting me again.
- 7:44And it just reminds me all over again, the power of coaching, which is what I do as
- 7:49well.
- 7:49And so if you've been sitting there on the fence and going, I don't know, I want more
- 7:53in life.
- 7:53I'm feeling a little stuck, book an exploratory call with me.
- 7:56We're going to get some wins under your belt, even from that free call.
- 7:58And you can see whether coaching would be a fit for you.
- 8:01So when talking to my coach, we were talking about my money stories.
- 8:05And he was just kind of talking about the nuts and bolts of money.
- 8:09And he talked about, listen, when you walk into the grocery store and you fill up
- 8:13your cart, and then you intentionally decide to put a couple of things back
- 8:17because you're like, I don't need these things, we can tell ourselves, that's what
- 8:23I do when I don't have enough.
- 8:25And he said, it's time to flip the script and instead say, this is what I do when
- 8:30I'm regarding my resources as precious.
- 8:34I'm going to say that again.
- 8:36This is what I do when I regard my resources as precious.
- 8:42When we really lean into this idea of I am going to honor the things the Lord has put
- 8:48in my hands, including my cash, including the dollars and cents and pennies, and
- 8:53regard those as valuable, as highly valuable, then we are stepping into a
- 9:00deeper level of stewardship and the Lord will honor us.
- 9:04in the same measure.
- 9:05He's going to say, okay, you value what I have given you.
- 9:08I'm going to teach you how to value it even more.
- 9:11I'm going to trust you with more.
- 9:13And it may be more money, but it may be more of other things that we hold dear.
- 9:17Okay.
- 9:17And so it's part of faithful, faithful stewardship to go, do I really need, do I
- 9:21really need like the, the $10 creamer instead of the $5 creamer?
- 9:26Okay.
- 9:26So we start to ask these questions and we start to regard money as precious as
- 9:30though we didn't have enough, but not from a place of scarcity.
- 9:34from a place of respect.
- 9:37Okay?
- 9:37So the first thing that we can do is flip through those expenses, get really clear.
- 9:44And this, I loved what my coach said.
- 9:46He was like, we canceled things just for fun and just see who picks them up again.
- 9:51Cancel the Netflix subscription.
- 9:52And then like three or four months could go by before anybody missed it.
- 9:55And then his kids would be like, Hey, what about that subscription?
- 9:58He just turns it back on again.
- 10:00When they don't need it, they turn it off.
- 10:01Think about how many things we leave running in the background that are costing
- 10:05us money that we don't actually need.
- 10:08Okay.
- 10:08So that's our first step is we're just going to take a look at those expenses.
- 10:11And instead of going, I can't cut anymore.
- 10:14There's, there's not possibly anything else I could cut.
- 10:17We get really curious and going and go, what, like, where could I cut instead of I
- 10:22couldn't cut anymore.
- 10:23Where could I cut?
- 10:24Can we drive in one car instead of in two cars?
- 10:27Can we walk instead of drive?
- 10:29Can we.
- 10:30Can we clip some coupons?
- 10:31Can we meal plan?
- 10:33Can we eat oatmeal for breakfast for three mornings instead of eating bacon and eggs
- 10:37every morning?
- 10:38Okay?
- 10:39All right, so that's the first thing we're going to do.
- 10:41The second thing is we look at our income.
- 10:44Okay?
- 10:44And this is why I love entrepreneurship so very much, because our income can actually
- 10:50be scaled in proportion to our value that we're adding in the marketplace.
- 10:55And y 'all, I'm going to introduce you to the GoGiver.
- 10:59I'm going to introduce you to the GoGiver and it's going to change your life because
- 11:03it's the best.
- 11:04It is one of the best books out there on truly walking in servant business, servant
- 11:10oriented business.
- 11:11But that's not today.
- 11:14I really want to talk about it.
- 11:15Nope, we're not.
- 11:16Okay.
- 11:16So we're not, we're not.
- 11:17I'm going to keep this really simple and we're going to, we're going to dig into
- 11:20the principles of the GoGiver on another episode.
- 11:22So just stay tuned.
- 11:24It's coming.
- 11:25There's so much good stuff to talk about.
- 11:28But let's talk really simply about income.
- 11:31And we're going to talk about it from the perspective of the book, the first book
- 11:34that changed my life as far as becoming an entrepreneur, which was Rich Dad Poor Dad
- 11:39by Robert Kiyosaki.
- 11:40So the premise of Rich Dad Poor Dad is Robert Kiyosaki talks about his, he calls
- 11:45him his two dads, his biological father, the man who raised him, and then his best
- 11:50friend's father.
- 11:51His biological father went to a traditional school, worked a traditional
- 11:55job.
- 11:56went on to have the retirement and the accolades and all of these kinds of
- 12:00things, then had some sort of dispute within his work, work, the workplace and
- 12:06ended up living out the end of his days pretty much broke.
- 12:10His poor dad never went to college, maybe even didn't finish high school, but he was
- 12:15scrappy and he went out and built businesses and ended up going on to
- 12:20basically retire at a young age, build a multimillion dollar real estate
- 12:25organization.
- 12:26Teach Robert Kiyosaki everything he knew, the rest is history.
- 12:29Okay, so Robert Kiyosaki underscored this principle that blew my mind.
- 12:33At the time I was driving back and forth 45 minutes commute to my law firm, the job
- 12:39I worked for five and a half years, leaving my infant and then toddler
- 12:43daughter at home, crying for mommy at the end of the afternoon and I'm still trying
- 12:47to get home in traffic.
- 12:48It was all kinds of hard.
- 12:51And I would listen to audiobooks, just happened to grab this one because it was
- 12:54bright purple.
- 12:54And I was like, why not?
- 12:55Kind of an interesting title.
- 12:57Well, what he talked about in that book was that there are four different ways to
- 13:03earn income in our lives.
- 13:06We can be employed.
- 13:08Someone pays you for your time and you go and work.
- 13:11We can be self -employed, doctors, lawyers, if they're partners in their law
- 13:16firm.
- 13:16plumbers, anybody who owns their own company where they are out there working,
- 13:21okay?
- 13:22Massage therapists, hairstylists, investors and business owners.
- 13:29And he said, the true path to wealth is found in being in the latter two
- 13:37categories, the last two categories, investor and business owner.
- 13:42Because in those two categories, you are no longer trading your time.
- 13:46for money.
- 13:48In the first two categories, your earning is capped based on your skills and your
- 13:55time capacity.
- 13:57Okay?
- 13:57So for example, let's talk about my life as a lawyer.
- 14:03I got a starting salary.
- 14:04It was a great starting salary, but it was a starting salary nonetheless, that was
- 14:08going to raise as I progressed.
- 14:11And if I didn't work, I didn't get paid.
- 14:14If I decided I wasn't going to show up for a month or two months or three months, no
- 14:16money would be coming in because they'd fire me, right?
- 14:19My earning potential was capped by the marketplace.
- 14:24How much people would pay a lawyer, how much skill I could earn.
- 14:28And if I reached a point where I couldn't work anymore, that was the end of the
- 14:32money.
- 14:33Self -employed.
- 14:34Similarly, you trade your time for money.
- 14:38So you get to keep more of it because it's your business.
- 14:41But if you don't show up for work.
- 14:43then you don't get paid.
- 14:44Think about a hairstylist.
- 14:46Okay.
- 14:47She's got her clients.
- 14:48She's got them coming in her chair.
- 14:49If she's just starting out, maybe she's making 50 bucks a cut.
- 14:53If she becomes some sort of all star, you know, runway model, Hollywood, whatever,
- 15:00maybe she's charging three, $400 a cut.
- 15:02But still, if I don't even know, I don't know what the limit is.
- 15:05I'm sure it's high.
- 15:07Even still, if she doesn't show up and work, if she cannot work,
- 15:11or she needs a vacation or there's a health thing or she wants to raise her
- 15:14babies from home or whatever it is.
- 15:16If she does not show up and work that chair, she does not get paid.
- 15:21Okay?
- 15:21Flip side, investors.
- 15:24You take your money that you have earned and you put it into something that is a
- 15:31passive stream of income.
- 15:34Okay?
- 15:35So for example, you earn money at your job or you're self -employed and you earn an
- 15:39income.
- 15:39and you put that money towards real estate.
- 15:42You put that money towards, Kiyosaki is a big fan of truly passive assets, where no
- 15:50matter what you're getting money in your pocket.
- 15:51So for example, he would say, don't flip a house because you're working for that, buy
- 15:56a piece.
- 15:57It's not that you can't, but just that the true passive income comes when you
- 16:01purchase a piece of real estate as an investment property, when you purchase
- 16:04preferred stock that pays a dividend, where there's no, it's...
- 16:08It's not that there's no market risk, but that your income is coming in independent
- 16:12of what the stock is doing in the market.
- 16:15Okay.
- 16:15So when you buy an investment, then you've got money being put in your pocket.
- 16:22And he encouraged this exercise.
- 16:26It's a little sobering, but all things can be changed in a much shorter period of
- 16:31time than we realize.
- 16:32He talked about taking a look at the things we spend money on.
- 16:37and getting really clear on what we own that are assets and what we own that are
- 16:44liabilities.
- 16:46So at the time I was working in this big law firm, plenty of money coming in and we
- 16:52would just, there's this great meme that talks about little treat culture is
- 16:57getting really out of hand it says.
- 16:58You guys may have seen it, it circulates around a lot.
- 17:01Little treat culture is getting really out of hand.
- 17:03Why do we need a $5 Starbucks coffee?
- 17:05Just because we did something adult, like go to the bank.
- 17:08And then there's a comment to that tweet or whatever it was that says, sounds like
- 17:13somebody needs a little treat.
- 17:15It was so fabulous.
- 17:17Okay.
- 17:17So little treat culture.
- 17:19I was living little treat culture before I even knew that was a thing.
- 17:22Hard day at work, go buy a pair of shoes.
- 17:24Tough season at my job.
- 17:26Big deal going on.
- 17:28head on over and stay at a nice hotel in town.
- 17:31We wouldn't even leave town.
- 17:32We'd just stay in town because we just needed a break, right?
- 17:35And so what did I realize when I'm listening to Robert Kiyosaki talk?
- 17:39All these things we're buying are liabilities.
- 17:42The definition that he has for assets as opposed to liabilities are assets are the
- 17:46things that put money into your pocket.
- 17:48Liabilities are the things that take money out of your pocket.
- 17:51So pretty much everything that we go and buy.
- 17:54Everything we, I'm going to just say everything we go on my at the store is a
- 17:57liability.
- 17:58Everything takes money out of your pocket.
- 18:00Doesn't give anything back to you.
- 18:01Okay.
- 18:01Unless you're turning it around and you're monetizing it as a business idea.
- 18:05Okay.
- 18:05Like my daughter is always coming up with lemonade stands and why don't we sell
- 18:08some, like some sort of art thing that we're, that we're doing or cookies.
- 18:14Okay.
- 18:15You can turn it into a business, but barring that it's a liability.
- 18:19So what are assets?
- 18:21Kiyosaki has a very conservative definition.
- 18:24Preferred stocks, real estate that you're holding long, or real estate investment
- 18:28trusts, that type of thing.
- 18:29Anything that if you did nothing, you did nothing, you didn't show up, you didn't
- 18:34touch it, it's still paying you.
- 18:37Other people would say, even if you have to manage it a little bit, as long as you
- 18:42know what you're doing, it's an asset.
- 18:43So for example, going and buying an index fund in the stock market, because over
- 18:49time it's going to go up.
- 18:51going and buying a building that you're going to flip because you're going to make
- 18:55a profit.
- 18:56So wherever you fall on that spectrum, the point is we're putting our money to work
- 19:01to make more money, which by the way, is what we're called to do in the parable of
- 19:06the talents.
- 19:07There we are again, right back in Matthew.
- 19:09Okay.
- 19:09The parable of the talents, the faithful servants went out and invested money.
- 19:16So although in the kingdom of God, we can be a little uncomfortable talking about
- 19:20money, that is one of the ways that we can expand his kingdom.
- 19:23It's something that he gave us to use that we can use for good or for ill.
- 19:27And I'm just going to offer the suggestion that if we're squandering it on chips and
- 19:31Starbucks runs, whereas we could be putting it to work in the marketplace to
- 19:36then go and take those earnings and sow them into kingdom work, it's something
- 19:42that we need to actively consider.
- 19:44How can I be stewarding even this thing that I'm tempted to view as kind of base
- 19:49and worldly?
- 19:50How can I steward this thing well?
- 19:53And in fact, all the more important that we steward the worldly things well, okay?
- 19:58That we not let them own us, that we not let them be distractions, that we not let
- 20:02them be things that we just really don't engage with and pretend they're not
- 20:08something that we need to really talk about or deal with.
- 20:12They're there.
- 20:13He gave money.
- 20:14He gave money to us.
- 20:15Okay, so what do we do with it?
- 20:17How do we steward it?
- 20:18Well, okay.
- 20:22Listen, mama, with as many different things as you're juggling, I'll bet some
- 20:26days you struggle to remember to eat breakfast.
- 20:28Failing to take care of yourself not only dampens your joy, but it also impacts your
- 20:33ability to serve those you love the most.
- 20:36And yet you need an easy solution, something that will give you maximum
- 20:40impact without being crazy complicated.
- 20:42Sound about right?
- 20:43Let me share with you my favorite supplement and the only one of its kind,
- 20:47Modair's Liquid Collagen.

- 20:54wrinkles too.
- 20:55My hair is also growing like crazy.
- 20:58One product helps me look better and feel better, and it tastes great too.

- 21:10healthy, well -fortified mamas build powerful legacies.
- 21:19Business owners.
- 21:20This is interesting.
- 21:22This is where if we don't show up to work, money can still come in.
- 21:28Okay?
- 21:29You buy a coffee shop and you hire employees and train them to work in the
- 21:33coffee shop.
- 21:33If you're not there, they can still sell product.
- 21:36There's still a profitable day.
- 21:38Okay?
- 21:40Massage therapist or hairdresser builds a business, purchases a building or rents
- 21:47out space.
- 21:48and rents out chairs or massage chairs or whatever it is, people pay her a fee.
- 21:54So if she's not working, she's still making a cut of their profits.
- 21:59Okay.
- 21:59Direct sales.
- 22:01Okay.
- 22:02You start a business, you bring other people on and train them on how to do that
- 22:08business.
- 22:09And when you are taking a vacation, you have empowered them to earn their own
- 22:14income and you are still earning.
- 22:17a percentage of that.
- 22:20Okay?
- 22:20And listen, I'm just going to throw this out there.
- 22:22If you have opinions about direct sales and MLMs, like I've walked this road for a
- 22:26long time.
- 22:27I was in a traditional direct sales company for eight years.
- 22:29I've chosen a different model called social retail that I believe is much more
- 22:34powerful because it encourages, it actually, it's built, it's built so that
- 22:41you're actually able to earn very well without building a team.
- 22:46And it does have that leveraged piece where people can get started on the
- 22:51products that you share.
- 22:52And then as you train them, okay, so in a traditional direct sales, it's like you
- 22:57train your team.
- 22:58And then when you train your team, they go out and do, and then you earn an income.
- 23:02Okay.
- 23:03Social retail, you're actually training your customers to have high buy -in on the
- 23:09products that are going to transform their lives.
- 23:11The product that I share about anyway.
- 23:13And then,
- 23:14there's still that continued connection, there's still that continued service, but
- 23:19the work that you're putting in is highly leveraged.
- 23:22And so you put in that high amount of investment to help them get understanding
- 23:26on, hey, this is how this is going to serve and support you.
- 23:29And then it's these lighter touches over time.
- 23:31So it's a leveraged form of income.
- 23:34You can also do it by building a team as well.
- 23:36So if you have opinions about MLM direct sales that are really like...
- 23:40elevated of just like, I hate that.
- 23:42You know, the whole, the post of like, I never buy MLM, right?
- 23:45The post on Facebook, give me, give me your best solutions ever.
- 23:49I'm open to everything except for this subcategory of products, just because I
- 23:52don't like the way the financial piece is structured.
- 23:55Let's work through that.
- 23:57Let's work through that because I started out with that bias, you guys.
- 24:00And when I was like, I don't do those.
- 24:02I don't buy from those things.
- 24:03I don't like that.
- 24:05Why?
- 24:05Because I felt uncomfortable.
- 24:07I felt uncomfortable.
- 24:08And because of that,
- 24:09I missed out on a really beautiful opportunity to support my friends.
- 24:14I missed out on a really important, a beautiful opportunity to learn about a
- 24:17product that could have served me very well.
- 24:19And so I just want to encourage you guys, it's important that we be wise as we're
- 24:24looking at the, if we're, if we're looking at a way to earn leveraged income, those
- 24:29structures can be really beautiful.
- 24:30The compensation plan matters.
- 24:32Okay.
- 24:33The compensation plan matters and it's important to really understand what is the
- 24:36product I'm sharing.
- 24:38How does the compensation plan align with the way the product works?
- 24:42What's the likelihood for continuity of income?
- 24:45As people buy, are they going to continue to buy because they're continuing to be
- 24:48well -served by the product?
- 24:50It's not predatory to help somebody get on a product that's going to serve and
- 24:57support them well and change their life.
- 25:00And you help them do that at a high level because you actually know how to serve
- 25:04them.
- 25:05And you can say, I know this is going to help you.
- 25:07and I care about you because I'm actually in your life.
- 25:10I'm not target, right?
- 25:11I'm right here.
- 25:12I'm in your neighborhood.
- 25:12I'm at Mops with you or whatever it is.
- 25:16When we can help somebody in that way, that is a legitimate business.
- 25:22So if you're indirect sales, MLM, social retail, whatever, it's time to stop
- 25:27apologizing for it.
- 25:28You have a real business and it really matters.
- 25:30Okay.
- 25:31And if you have some thoughts about MLM, social retail, direct sales, whatever it
- 25:36is.
- 25:38come talk to me, let's have a conversation, because I was right there
- 25:41with you.
- 25:41And my judgments kept me from finding some blessings, including a stream of income
- 25:47that was very life -changing for our family.
- 25:50So little rabbit trail on that.
- 25:51It's something I'm really passionate about because it's been an industry that I've
- 25:56been a part of for a really long time.
- 25:57I've seen the good side.
- 25:58I've seen the challenges.
- 26:00I think just like everything else, we need wisdom.
- 26:03as we walk this out, we need to understand ourselves.
- 26:06We need to understand the business that we're entering into.
- 26:08We need to look around us and see who's being successful.
- 26:12How are they being successful?
- 26:13What does it take?
- 26:14And then we step into what we feel is the next call from God.
- 26:19The thing I will, and I'm just gonna say this, this is my last thing on this.
- 26:22I did not expect to go on this rabbit trail, but you know me.
- 26:24I will say this.
- 26:26My favorite thing about this model is it.
- 26:30takes so much of the pressure and heaviness around starting a business off
- 26:35your shoulders.
- 26:36So if you are looking for, okay, so here's what I wanna say.
- 26:39This is all about increasing your income, right?
- 26:41If you're looking for a way to increase your income this summer, take a look at a
- 26:46leverage opportunity like MLM, direct sales, social retail.
- 26:50If you're curious about why I chose the business I chose, just shoot me a message.
- 26:53Let's have a conversation about it.
- 26:54I love where I am for a lot of reasons.
- 26:57Crunchy Girl, nice clean products.
- 26:58They work really beautifully for people.
- 27:00They're very visible.
- 27:01They're really geared towards sharing on social media.
- 27:05And I love that people can earn a really good income by sharing the product without
- 27:11building a team.
- 27:12Although I love the team building thing.
- 27:13Okay.
- 27:14So message me, let's talk about it.
- 27:16I love what I do.
- 27:17Now, if you bake cookies, if you create art, if you write whatever thing you do,
- 27:25If you are currently working and your work is more of that self -employed role, okay,
- 27:34if you're a hairdresser, an aesthetician, if you're like running a workout club,
- 27:40whatever it is, if you are trading your money for time, I work when I show up,
- 27:47consider adding in an additional stream of income that is leveraged, okay?
- 27:54So.
- 27:55Your most simple next step is a social retail direct sales model because that is
- 28:01like, boom, here it is.
- 28:03Ready -made built business.
- 28:05They've got the marketing materials.
- 28:06They've got the product already.
- 28:07They've got the warranty.
- 28:08They've got the customer service piece.
- 28:10You become the face of the product by you.
- 28:14Okay.
- 28:15So you're not the face of the product.
- 28:17You're the face of your version of the product.
- 28:19Why do you love it?
- 28:20Why are you sharing about it?
- 28:21What's it going to give to your people?
- 28:23Okay.
- 28:24It's got to be aligned.
- 28:26This is why you need a coach.
- 28:27Work through this piece.
- 28:28It's got to be aligned.
- 28:30But so much of the back office burden is lifted off your shoulders.
- 28:35Okay.
- 28:35So that's my, that's my piece about direct sales and all of that.
- 28:39Now we're going to increase our income.
- 28:41How are we doing that?
- 28:42I gave you a little preview just now.
- 28:44We're going to find a way to step out of trading money for time because the only
- 28:49way to grow our income when we're trading money, two ways, the only two ways to grow
- 28:52our income when we're trading money for time.
- 28:54Listen, the only two ways to grow our income when we're trading money for time
- 28:58are either to increase our skill so that we can charge more in the marketplace or
- 29:03work more.
- 29:05And the easiest, the most efficient scaling opportunity is to work more.
- 29:11This is how we end up with burnout, you guys, because we end up getting on this
- 29:15rat race mode.
- 29:17where we're just like, okay, but I need to add my, I need to add to my income.
- 29:20So I'm going to add another client.
- 29:21I'm going to add another client and we wipe out and we burn out and we end up
- 29:24with adrenal fatigue and we ended up having to like cancel all of our bookings.
- 29:28And then we end up in worse shape than we were before.
- 29:31So that is why getting really strategic and elevating in our business and going,
- 29:35okay, how can I leverage my time today becomes so powerful.
- 29:40Okay.
- 29:41So we can add a bucket and let me just note for you.
- 29:45Listen, this is so important for us to understand.
- 29:47This is so important to understand.
- 29:49We tend to think as a culture, we are the one thing we do.
- 29:55We have a job, a job one.
- 29:58Okay?
- 29:58But if you look at the way millionaires think, the average millionaire has seven
- 30:04streams of income.
- 30:06That is not seven jobs.
- 30:08Seven streams of income.
- 30:10That may look like this.
- 30:12Well, I have my job.
- 30:14which is to write books.
- 30:16And then I have the podcast that I run.
- 30:20And then I have the blog that's monetized and the YouTube channel that's actually
- 30:27monetizing as well, but it's actually clips from the podcast.
- 30:30And then I'm on Twitter and I get sponsorships and those sponsorships come
- 30:35from the content that I've already created from the book and the podcast.
- 30:39And then I also have an apparel store and the apparel store isn't something I even
- 30:42have to think about because it's just clips from my speaking and then those get
- 30:47put on.
- 30:48And then the podcast has actually got sponsorships to it as well because I just
- 30:54bring on the brands that I really like and I talk about them and I get a cut from
- 30:58that.
- 30:59And then the money that I make from all of this goes into a real estate investment
- 31:04organization.
- 31:05And then I also have...
- 31:07money in the stock market, right?
- 31:08So we have this kind of like engine that starts to move and starts to be self
- 31:12-propelling and just grows and grows and grows, right?
- 31:15We can do the same thing.
- 31:17We can do the exact same thing.
- 31:20So for example, you've got a bread business, you're making homemade bread.
- 31:25And then you're like, well, people ask a lot of questions about my favorite bread
- 31:31recipes or how it is that I'm able to incorporate making bread when I'm also
- 31:35homeschooling my children.
- 31:36or how it is that I'm able to run a farm and do the bread thing and also have a
- 31:43really amazing ministry.
- 31:44And so then I start, then I write a little ebook about that.
- 31:47And then I also have affiliate links to the products that I love to use.
- 31:51And then I also have a company that's really aligned for me, that's part of my
- 31:56self -care routine.
- 31:57That's how I stay stable and stay kind of aligned and everything like that.
- 32:01And so then I have that piece and I have an affiliate link to that product that I
- 32:05really love and I share about that as well.
- 32:07And then I get brought in on podcasts and I get to start speaking about this and I
- 32:11start to earn an income from doing that.
- 32:13And then after the ebook goes really well, then I actually write a written book too,
- 32:17or I'm monetizing on YouTube from the speaking that I'm doing.
- 32:21Okay.
- 32:21So in this digital age in which we live, we can create many different options.
- 32:25We can create a lot of different streams of income, a lot of different ways in the
- 32:29door.
- 32:31Interestingly enough, and then we push it out to investments, okay?
- 32:35Interestingly enough, when people spend $5 with you, they are disproportionately
- 32:41likely, like I don't know what the percentage is, but significantly more
- 32:45likely to then go ahead and buy the $100 offer and the $1 ,000 offer and the $10
- 32:49,000 offer from there.
- 32:51What do people ask you about all the time?
- 32:55You have not even noticed it most likely because you're like, yeah, well, of
- 32:58course.
- 32:59I mean, obviously that's what I talk about.
- 33:01It's like, it's all people know about me.
- 33:03We don't notice it because it's our gifting.
- 33:06We don't notice that one of my pastors used to say fish don't know they're wet.
- 33:10Okay.
- 33:10We don't even recognize the gift because it's so much a part of who we are.
- 33:15Elevate for a minute, friends.
- 33:17Think about it.
- 33:17What conversations are you always having?
- 33:19What do people call you asking for?
- 33:23Okay.
- 33:23I had a really hard time pinning this down because for me, people called me for all
- 33:26kinds of things, but that's kind of part of my deal.
- 33:30I'm like, I call myself a little spider, like come to the hub, right?
- 33:34Come to the hub and then I'll send you out.
- 33:36I know this great blog.
- 33:37there's this amazing wellness thing.
- 33:40my gosh, I love this mama, mama author, whatever.
- 33:43There's always some resource that I found that I share with my people.
- 33:48Okay.
- 33:49So why do people come to you?
- 33:53And then we tend to think it's a bad thing.
- 33:57Okay, we're going to break some money stories.
- 33:59Okay.
- 33:59I, okay.
- 34:00We're going to break some money stories.
- 34:02Here's the deal.
- 34:03And we're going to do more this summer.
- 34:04This is kind of what I feel like we need to be talking about right now.
- 34:08Here's the deal.
- 34:10We tend, especially as believers, to think that we are wrong to charge for our
- 34:16services, but people actually impute value to something.
- 34:22based on its sticker price.
- 34:25So if you give something away to someone that is valued very highly, you're
- 34:30actually robbing them of their own transformation.
- 34:34I'm going to say that again.
- 34:35If you choose to give something away that has very high value and as a result
- 34:39undervalue it in the eyes of the other person, you are stealing their
- 34:44transformation from them because they're going to get in there and go, OK, yeah, it
- 34:48was free, whatever.
- 34:49I'm preaching to myself.
- 34:50I'm like, my guide that I have, my Overwhelmed to Overcome guide, it's not a
- 34:53free guide.
- 34:54It's free.
- 34:55But the value of that guide, as far as what it can do to shift your state is far
- 35:00and above.
- 35:02I mean, like, you know, it's obviously it's far and above free.
- 35:07And there's, and there's value in giving away value.
- 35:11But if we never charge anything for anything we do, then people will regard
- 35:17it.
- 35:18as being worth what you're charging, right?
- 35:23And then that's the level of connection and engagement they'll give it.
- 35:27And then that's the level of transformation they're going to get.
- 35:30Okay.
- 35:31The coach that I work with says money is essentially the way he said it was so
- 35:38beautiful.
- 35:38I don't quite have it down, but essentially it's like a packaged emotional
- 35:43exchange.
- 35:45Okay.
- 35:46So for example,
- 35:47You hire a coach.
- 35:49They help you feel more empowered and equipped and encourage to do the work
- 35:53you're called to do in the world.
- 35:54You pay them in exchange for that feeling.
- 35:57I'm giving you money for the feeling of transformation that you've given me.
- 36:00And then the coach turns around and pays that money to go see a concert with their
- 36:08kid.
- 36:09And then the people at the concert venue turn around and put that money out into
- 36:14advertising to bring in more people to come see the next concert.
- 36:17And then the people that are coming in to see that concert, they're coming in
- 36:20because of the emotional experience that they've created that put money in their
- 36:23pockets.
- 36:24And so money can just keep on moving and keep on moving as we continue to add value
- 36:29to other people's lives.
- 36:32The money's not meant to just sit in your hands, push it back out into the world and
- 36:36do so in a meaningful way.
- 36:38Okay.
- 36:39Okay.
- 36:40So we're going to look beyond simply trading money for time.
- 36:44And we're going to talk about how can we leverage our income?
- 36:47And then because we've already done the work to cut our expenses, we're going to
- 36:51do the last piece of this thing, which is we're going to sew that money into assets.
- 36:55Okay.
- 36:56So this is where we do the index funds in the stock market.
- 37:00This is where we do the real estate investment trust.
- 37:03This is where we start saving money for a down payment on a rental property.
- 37:06This is where we start to look at whether we can get some gold or silver, or we
- 37:11start to look at putting things in the Roth IRA, that type of stuff.
- 37:14And we push that money out so that it can work.
- 37:17for us so that over time, as we continue to do this, we're lifting the bar of our
- 37:23stewardship.
- 37:24We have more money in the bank, we have more room to breathe, and we have more to
- 37:27give.
- 37:28Okay?
- 37:29All right.
- 37:30So we're going to decrease our expenses because money is precious and we're going
- 37:34to treat it that way.
- 37:36Okay?
- 37:36It does matter.
- 37:37It matters whether we choose, especially, listen, especially if it's feeling tight,
- 37:42because here's the deal.
- 37:43And I get into this trap too.
- 37:45There reaches a point where...
- 37:47Where expenses can feel so overwhelming, the inflate, the gap between where we are
- 37:52and where we need to be can feel so large that the idea of choosing not to buy a $5
- 37:59coffee can feel like it's like irrelevant.
- 38:03What good is that going to do?
- 38:04It's a drop in the bucket compared to where we need to be.
- 38:07When we flip our mindset and say it all matters, I'm going to be faithful in all
- 38:12of it.
- 38:13When we choose to be faithful and we say it all matters and I'm going to mark all
- 38:16of it.
- 38:17All of a sudden it shifts our regard for money and we start to see it as a valuable
- 38:24tool that we need to be mindful of at all levels.
- 38:28And as we do that, the coffers start to grow and then we start to feel more
- 38:32abundant and we start to feel more at rest and go, it's going to be okay.
- 38:35We're going to make it through this season because we're careful and we're thoughtful
- 38:39and intentional.
- 38:40And when we're thoughtful and intentional, not only will we be saving money, but we
- 38:44will be on the lookout.
- 38:46Okay, what else can I do?
- 38:49How else can I steward well?
- 38:50How else can I add value to the world?
- 38:53And as we ask that question, then we're going to see opportunities where we didn't
- 38:58see them before.
- 38:59Okay, all right, so we're saving our money.
- 39:03We're looking at ways that not only can we trade money for time, but we can also
- 39:07leverage our time, okay, and bring in streams of income in an alternative and
- 39:14flexible way.
- 39:15And then we're going to send that money out as assets, purchasing assets that can
- 39:20keep this engine rolling so that we can feel more abundant and we can have more
- 39:23income coming in.
- 39:25Okay.
- 39:26All right, friends.
- 39:27So that was kind of a more technical conversation.
- 39:29How you hang in, how did this land?
- 39:31Are you like 101 already know all this stuff breeze right past it?
- 39:35Are you sitting here going never really thought of it this way?
- 39:38Is Robert Kiyosaki a new name?
- 39:40Is this whole rich dad, poor dad concept new to you?
- 39:43message me, find me on social media.
- 39:45I want to hear what you have to say.
- 39:47And listen, if these podcasts are landing for you, be sure to share them with
- 39:51people.
- 39:51I would be so grateful if you would drop a review, if you would send an episode to a
- 39:55friend that you liked.
- 39:57All of these things are so much for joining us for this episode.
- 39:59If she considers a field to serve you better.
- 40:01If you found value in this episode, I would be so grateful if you would leave a
- 40:05review wherever you listen to your podcast and be sure to share with a friend who
- 40:09needs some encouragement on her journey today too.
- 40:11Until next time remember, you've got this because he's got you.
