Transcript
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Three Yards Perkati, a podcast covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_03]: And we are on.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_03]: This is Three Yards Perkati, I'm Alfred Ortega, some clients here.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_03]: Chris Kaufman is here.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_03]: And as always, we have brought to you by 305-800-pain.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: Very, very apropos for this show that we're going to do today as we break down that game from yesterday.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_03]: Unlike the dolphins, these guys are actually ready to take your call.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_03]: After an accident, your first move should be calling 305-800-pain.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_03]: Better business be a real accredited with an eight plus rating.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_03]: Your car accident, personal injury specialist,
- 0:54[SPEAKER_03]: the best connection with trusted doctors and attorneys, always ready to take your call, 24, seven.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: Again, 305, 800 pain, 305, 800 pain.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_03]: All right, let's get into this.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_03]: I go, let me go to you first, son, because I'm watching that game yesterday.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_03]: And they're just going up and down the field, they look like they're going to hang 50 on these guys.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_03]: Defense looks competent.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: they get a three and out, they create two turnovers, make a Fitzpatrick comes on to the scene and then a switch, it was like a switch got turned on.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_03]: And they just began coasting really and they're upon it, just started getting chunk run after chunk run.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_03]: I believe six chunk runs,
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: and their quarterback is now converting on third down, converts on fourth down twice, and you're just in coast mode.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_03]: Then you get a lead.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_03]: You give it right back with an 85 hard drive.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_03]: You get the ballback, you do nothing with it.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that game was shocking.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think of,
- 2:24[SPEAKER_03]: But what did you think overall that game flow?
- 2:28[SPEAKER_03]: What did you think of that game overall?
- 2:30[SPEAKER_03]: Sign up.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would say look, I thank God what you're doing yesterday because I was, you know, I said it started season how long I'm going to get angry and I was so angry yesterday.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: But actually the more the times passed on the last 23 hours, the more I can't see what happened yesterday through the lens.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think of like the last six years.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think, you know, you go back this rebuild that had so much hope.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: We've blown it so on a grippy badly that one day they'll, you know,
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: They'll write books and they'll make documentaries about how we tried to position ourselves for Joe Barrow.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: We blew it when Nick Meadam.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: I watched it back today.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: Nick Meadam not to weigh up third down Bangalore's parcel over time for John Loss to accept them up at midfield of the first hour.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: And you go to, to yesterday you end up losing to the, to the woeful pant that's having led 17, nothing after what 18 minutes or whatever and I, and I think I don't know if you guys paid bingo in America, but yes, this game was to me a kind of an absolute sort of bingo card microcosm of that entire six year period.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you can kind of count them.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you go through it.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: you know, a bit of a performance early on that gave us hope, yep, then go, that was there, you know, a guy on the team trying to prove everybody wrong, which is the GM, we know the GM would kind of use to kind of wink at the owner, can you see what I did here, sort of Trump card, yep, then go, we had that, you know, the head coach sort of absolutely and unequivocally.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: not sticking to something that's clearly huge success or because he's already talking so up into his thing of the week and he's not changing it line no matter what and, you know, Carl Crab talked about it on our discord but Carl said that we implemented 22 personnel around it six times.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: five of those times coming in the first 18 minutes, where we led 17 nothing and it yielded two touchdowns and 21-yard passing play.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't call it again.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't call the sixth threat out of that grouping until 450 to cone in the game and they scored the 46-yard touchdown.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: So, being going to that, you know, the coast decided enough of offensive balance.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: The perfect balance that we had last week when we actually won the game.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: totally kind of jettisoning the run game.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: We had one drive all game with all the two rush attempts and at the last five drives we had a sum total of three runs in five drives.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: Being go to that.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: We ran out of the same formation six times on first and ten and with shock horror surprise that we gained zero zero three minus three two and minus two yards.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_02]: You know, being go to that.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: the offensive linemen and actually can't crash yet tick bingo the offensive linemen construction so badly the can't bench anybody for just ineptitude because a the snowman left to play because b 250 stars are already in iR so you know again
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: being go to that high-round draft picks, looking like competition winners, yet again, being go a skill position player, this time it's elite Washington, but Christo, pick anybody other than last five, six years, being treated as if we get a five-by-all penalty, if they're actually used at the positions that they play in, A, E, Y, or C, where the rather than a running back, I mean, we can start at the game as the eye-back, a gadget player on reverse or sweep, or somebody who's going to only catch the ball clearly,
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: down the line of screenage or act the line of screenage, being go to that.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: The quarterback getting the ball back at the end of the game, knowing we had to win it, need to drive down the field, and not only going free in out, but missing a throw a high school quarterback could make to Jalen and Water with nobody, sort of seven, eight, nine, ten yards around it.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, we knew that was going to happen, being go to that, a late edition free agent who we took off the street, trying to cover up, yet another roster inequality, making a huge mistake at the end that ultimately cost the game.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then like after the game and today like the call back slash head coach slash offensive coordinator whoever it is or over it has been over the last few years
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: talking about the opponent either taking away some part of our offense and we couldn't counter it today, it was all yesterday with the middle of the field, as if we have no counter whatsoever to what they've done defensively, being go to that and then the day after press conference, of course, where the head coach comes up to the lectern and gives this kind of rambling, long word, salad answers that grant for six, seven minutes, a kind of mumbo, jump bonus, with no rhyme or reason, absolutely being go.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: and then play also coaches as we've had today, talking about a lack of communication or an aspect of the game that's just got away from us.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: So the run game just gets just got away from us in the end or how those great people on this team has great chemistry and everybody's trying really hard.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's like bingo bingo bingo.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, we are at an absolute embarrassment at the team.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: We're in, we are.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: We're in embarrassment of a team.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care what anybody says.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: And whilst like, you go back to yesterday, Arizona's collapse was pretty trembling, right?
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: That was the sort of samples of the day.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: This is year in year out over and over and over and over and over and read it's repeat the same story stuff.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: I could read, I could have written that list.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: I've just said in 2020, in 2021, in 2022, in 2023, in 2024, or the software, right?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: It would have,
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the phrase, you know, may as well keep that in drafts.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's exactly the same thing.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: But they won't pop the end because if the room is a true for mobile Kelly, then he clearly knows whether the body is a bird as it pertains to the Brian Flores suit.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: And if he does file a GM and the GM does spill about the Brian Flores thing, the dolphins are not releasing drafts and that will use the draft piece.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: And that hurts too.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: That hurts us.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: You guys listening and watching.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: That hurts the fans.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, again.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: been going to that.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: To me, yesterday was the lowest, I think the lowest of the low, because it was just like, it was the epitome, everything was just shit about the last six years, and it was just all there in four quarters of just absolute kind of,
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: something that started off fun and then just turned to the just the standard to the hate watch and literally everything just ticking off all this.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, this is going to happen.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh the callback's going to get the ball, but he's going to play small in this big moment because yeah, we're going to go through it.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he threw the touchdown past tomorrow and I tweeted about he wasn't to blame for the defeat yesterday.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, I'm not blaming two of what happened this day.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't his fault.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: He threw three touchdowns, but I thought he played all right.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: He played pretty well and he threw the 46 yards with four minutes to go.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: But he got the ball back
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, against one of the worst defenses in the league, and we went three and out, and he couldn't hear a wide open receiver that would've put us in great position.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm not blaming him, but he wasn't a reason why we should have won.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: He wasn't, you know,
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: So, I don't know, Chris, it's just, I'm, I mean, how, again, could get this speech and drafts.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm tired, man, it's so tiring just doing this.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you missed one.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_03]: You missed one, Simon.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, God.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_03]: You missed this one.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_03]: The bubble screen thing, which is, which has been a meme for a thousand years.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know that tool was more efficient yesterday.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_03]: throwing 10 air yards or more than at the line of scrimmage.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_03]: And that's almost impossible to do.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like I'm just watching, but I'm literally in like, so it's 11 o'clock UK time, PN.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's six o'clock US time to give people an idea on a Monday night, right?
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: And in the last or half an hour, I just started watching the old 22 because
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: and some of the things are like, and I've written them down, so I put them in a discord, but just like, so many of my run designs are predicated on motioning receivers or tight ends, who can't block one one anyway, motioning down into the formation, these kind of movement blocks, where they haven't to take on five techniques or defensive ends or edges or whatever.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: or ask a lot of fix-of-lime and like, why aren't Brewer having to get 15 yards out of the flat to take some guy out of the perfect angle in a game, which only, you know, this block only works if he has a completely clear runway.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: And this is American football.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: There are people everywhere.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: There are bodies everywhere.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: He can't, like,
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: it's staggering to me.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: I just watched the cats literally just before we came on air.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a run place on the first drive.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's a cat's behind the line of screenage.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know who number 11 of the Caroliner is, but the first responsibility on this place should be blocking number 11, because no matter what happens in terms of the blocks, so it's too often, and it's alarming.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: Go seven yards down the field to block.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: safeties and corners which they do fairly successfully but nobody blocks the guy on the line the number at junior hill kind of runs pasted bumps into it but nobody actually blocks here and guess what happens really wasn't attached to the ball and they get tackled behind the line by guess who yes ladies gentlemen number 11 the guy that we've completely ignored and you like when you're doing this up
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: At what point do you think this guy here is going to be the most critical person to block?
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's going to be the critical guy to block because he's uncovered and unblocked.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to make the tackle, which he doesn't eat immediately.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: And you just think, I don't know, it's just painful watching some of this stuff.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: We never do how on a half blocking.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like go back to the very first, was at the first run play that we did against the cults and the first game of season.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like two back set, our formation in gold straight up,
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that kind of bus block, 8 yards, 8chan, hat on a hat.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: Everything else we do is like kind of motioning and it's fine if you're the Rams and you're a cup of calf on your back in the day or you're puking a cooler motioning back in the formation of doing that.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: We don't have to clearly don't have the people that can do that.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's just so it's so frustrating.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't blame Mike.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: We don't necessarily fall this and I don't blame Anthony.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_02]: We even necessarily fall this but God knows at some point it's just it's never ending.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_02]: run over.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_05]: Just like the golf ones.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah Chris, um, one, uh, one, I'm a little bit upset that I, um, that I, I waffleed on, you know, calling this a trap because it was, uh, nailed it, man.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_05]: But, uh, the, uh, the tirey kill thing, threw me off.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_05]: You know, tirey kill, you lose your superstar.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_05]: You wouldn't think
- 12:17[SPEAKER_05]: But a 17 nothing getting running out to a 17 laughing lead because of these mistakes that the Panthers made really with the fumble and then the interception, which is poor throw, you know, I think that sort of that sort of gave them that replaced whatever they lost from losing direct kill.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_05]: They were overconfident from that point, right?
- 12:40[SPEAKER_05]: And then they, you know, they clearly lost the game off
- 12:44[SPEAKER_05]: Otherwise, I thought that this was a perfect trap game because this Carolina Panthers team, I think that they look to me like a team that has a road home problem.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_05]: I think they were a better team at home.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_05]: And they were against the Falcons, they were against the Dolphins.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_05]: And the Dolphins kind of, you know, they convinced themselves, oh, we just lost to against the Patriots at the end there.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_05]: It was just like, you know, a little issue here.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_05]: And then the Bill's game, what we just lost at the end was a little issue here.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_05]: You know, it's sort of playing the results and playing the, the final plays instead of looking at all the plays that stacked into that result throughout the game.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_05]: They finally got their win against the jets and you know, I think that okay, we're back to normal now we stack up wins against bad teams that's a hallmark of the Mike McDaniel teams is they stack up the wins against the bad teams.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_05]: Well, this was supposed to be a bad team, so they were overconfident.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_05]: But you know, and the anger that you feel is, I think it's, it's warranted because from a personnel standpoint, there's just non-sensical personnel all over the place on both sides of the ball.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_05]: How can you have?
- 13:56[SPEAKER_05]: an offense that is or run offense that is oriented the way that it is and still be neglecting the tight end blocking you know because that's what they're doing a lot of and where do these plays fail a lot is out on the perimeter with the tight end blocked really and hell it gets blown up or you know something like that it's you know you run you run a boomer bust
- 14:24[SPEAKER_05]: By a good amount of distance, the highest percentage of runs tackled for a loss.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_05]: That's the Miami Dolphins.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_05]: I think it's something like 11, 12% of their runs are tackled for loss.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_05]: That's a lot higher in the rest of the league.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_05]: You also have a decent, they rank 7th in number of 10 plus yard runs over that time.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_05]: So it's a boomer bus runs to run a system.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_05]: But the problem is that you're so predictable
- 14:55[SPEAKER_05]: because it's a boomer bus front system, where if you have bad plays, they're really bad.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_05]: You're losing yardage, the sticks are getting longer.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_05]: And so they say, all right, not working today, we're just gonna pass the pass the pass it.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_05]: And when you have a good quarterback, like to a tongue of Ilo, I think he's a good, and he has been in his career a pretty good quarterback.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_05]: Um, then, you know, it just reinforces that we're just going to keep passing passing passing and then before you know it, we have led for 54 out of 60 minutes in this game and yet we have a 40 to 14 or 40 to 13 run past run ratio.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_05]: You know, that is what this is and it's getting to the point where teams defenses are predicting it so well that they can key on runs in the first half knowing that you are going to give them up yourself in the second half you're just not going to call them.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_05]: And the second half because you got a little bit discouraged by the fact that you got tackled for a loss or you got a little bit discouraged by the fact that this run went for zero yards or something like that it's getting predictable and that's not that's not a sustainable situation that's not a situation that's sustainable to win it you know you have to change that.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_05]: You know you have to change that and I think that part of the problem is is not just the way the running game is structured but also the way the play calling and the entire operation is structure we talked about how long it takes when the motions and getting the play call out getting the personnel out there.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_05]: getting lined up, you know, and going through all the motions formation changes and things like that, that all takes so much time, but there's another aspect of that, which is that I don't think there's a lot of freedom for for the quarterback to get you into this play or this play, you know, as you as you break the huddle and you see.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_05]: You know, what their personnel is, how they're lining up and things like that.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_05]: I don't think there's a lot of freedom there because I see a lot of, you know, you talk about these failed run plays.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_05]: How's the run play near the goal line out of 11 personnel?
- 16:54[SPEAKER_05]: So you have three wide receivers out there.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_05]: They have their base defense out there, which means they've got four, you know, they've got a front, a full front seven out there with all the light actors in everybody and you're in three wide receiver.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_05]: You're in a light personnel package and you run it out there into the teeth of their oversized, you know, their oversized personnel because you've got no other choice, but to run the play that was called.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_05]: That's the way that works.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_05]: And there's a lot of that through the play calling offensively that it seemed like you ran that play because you had no other choice.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_05]: You had no other choice, but to run it into that spacing, run it into that person out grouping, run it, you know, run, execute the play into all that.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_05]: So there's all of that, but then the person outside of it is a lot of damn to if you I mentioned the tight end thing already.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_05]: Defence is just an absolute shambles right now from a person else standpoint.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_05]: First off, Jack Jones is probably not going to start next week.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_05]: I can break that right now and you know, it's it's not inside information.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_05]: It's not.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_05]: It's it's that I looked at the tape.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_05]: Jack Jones was absolutely atrocious.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_05]: I think that jail and Phillips almost directly took a shot at him today.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_05]: Well, when he was up there at the podium and he talked about, you know, just tackle the guys stop trying to rip the ball out.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I think I know who he was talking about, just like sort of like we know who they were talking about last year about being late and, you know, practices and stuff like that.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_05]: We know who they're talking about.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_05]: Jack Jones had an absolutely atrocious game.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_05]: You know, and the only good games that he can have are the good, you know, the games that an offense allows him to have because he's so terribly mismatched for this team.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_05]: He's just, I mean, it's not even necessarily.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_05]: He's a sea ball, get ball kind of guy.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_05]: He's not an information processor.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_05]: He's not his own player.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_05]: He leaves a lot of guys hanging out to dry on a play for play basis.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_05]: I think that if you look at that secondary, you think of this whole thing as the saying goes, a chain is only as good as this weakest link, right?
- 19:04[SPEAKER_05]: Well,
- 19:05[SPEAKER_05]: The weakest links to me are still in the secondary.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_05]: And I think that it puts pressure everywhere else.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_05]: And I do feel bad for Anthony Weaver because he seems a little damn defeat.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_05]: He's throwing literally everything he can out there.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_05]: Everything to see what sticks.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_05]: And nothing is sticking because if you're only as good as your weak link, you have 11 man.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_05]: chain out there with four or five week links any given time.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_05]: You know, Ashton Davis is a backup.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_05]: You know, if you ought to melafon with things that click and closes a computer trick, I mean, you know, I think that Jack Jones is a roulette table where you're only allowed to bet on green.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I think that Resoul Douglas, we're like we're celebrating the fact that Resoul Douglas is so good.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_05]: Where was he on fourth down at the end of the, at the end of the game yesterday?
- 19:56[SPEAKER_05]: He's not, he was, he was, he was uncalled heading into training camp for a reason.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_05]: He was unsigned for a reason.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_05]: You put the bull's eye on him and he's not going to hold up and yet he's arguably your best player.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, you just looking at a Cornell Armstrong is just good enough to be about five or six feet away from the receiving target every time the ball arrives, that's how good he is.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_05]: And it's just like consistent like clockwork.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_05]: It's just terrible Dante trader, I feel bad for him.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_05]: He might be one of the best players in the secondary and even he is a rookie.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_05]: a rookie who is slow.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_05]: And you saw on another fourth down, he can't stay plastered with a guy in an extra resolution.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_05]: That's not going to happen, you know?
- 20:39[SPEAKER_05]: So, so you have this this absolutely atrocious secondary full of asses and elbows and you can't really
- 20:47[SPEAKER_05]: You know, you can't really make heads or tails of what to do with it from a defense of coordinating standpoint or from a play calling standpoint and how to deal with that and then up front you're being let down constantly by Kenneth Grant being a rookie and being a particularly bad one.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_05]: You know right now and in Jordan Phillips also being a rookie and not being particularly good.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_02]: You have, you know, at least fixed up that this flashes with filets.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_05]: There's flashes.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_05]: There's flashes on both, but the awareness is not there for either player right now.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_05]: You know, and and there's I think there's they're going to be flashes, but I mean they're being let now they're being let down because of the reliance on on rookies up front and then you look at the linebacker unit with Jordan Brooks, you know Jordan Brooks was not supposed to be your best run stopping linebacker.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_05]: When they signed him at a free agent, if you recall the things that he was good at and see at all, that would make it particularly an offensive guy like Mike McDaniel, fall in love.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_05]: There were some specific discrete coverage things that skills that he was good at back there.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_05]: He's not supposed to be your best run-stopping linebacker, but Tyrell Dodson is basically a coin flip as to which player is going to show up on each play.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_05]: And so you have this thing where Jalen Phillips drops off in color coverage.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_05]: He's not good at that.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_05]: Bradley Chub is certainly not good at that and it's just everybody taking turns being the guy who lets you down on a specific play, but I think that part of it is you just don't have the talent to cover everything.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_05]: and you're trying to shift things around and you're playing a shell game and it's not working.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_05]: And so I think that overall it is a staffing issue on defense and you know, I do feel bad for the coordinator.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_05]: I know that he will make questionable calls.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_05]: We're always going to make we're always going to critique the guy who's making the play calls offensively and defensively.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_05]: We're always going to critique those guys for their game planning and, you know, this decision didn't make sense to me.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_05]: That decision makes sense to me.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_05]: But keeping them in perspective, I don't know what Anthony we were supposed to do.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I know what Mike McDaniel is supposed to do, but I think he has a little bit more say on the offensive personnel.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_05]: So I will put more on him for the shortcomings that they continue to have and the offensive personnel.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_05]: But defensively, you know,
- 23:20[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe Anthony Weaver gets fired, but if he does not want to surprise me at all, if he's a good defensive coordinator, somewhere else.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we're better talent.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_05]: I would agree.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's just the lack of, I mean, Chris is absolutely right.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: The lack of the puzzle pieces.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's what you're trying to work with.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's the thing that
- 23:40[SPEAKER_02]: I just find, so, I made the analogy, it's like a fashion show, but instead of selecting items, the clothes that suit one another, it's just this mismatch of styles and colors and a big hat that doesn't go with floppy pair of shoes and a pair of trousers that color wise, it's like it's so badly constructed, it's so badly constructed and I just think it's
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: the lack of thinking about what, okay, what does that sealer do best?
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: So what do we need?
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's actually the runs, it's brilliant on stunts and games.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: So what we've probably need is a guy that, and he was so successful with Christian Wilkins, because they worked so well together off stunts and games.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: We haven't got another guy who runs stunts and games.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: So it eliminates what sealers really good at doing.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like Grant is playing so badly inside that you have to move him out to three technique or even four lines.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: He's playing badly enough there.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, well, he can't bench him because who you're gonna bring in.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: Benito Jones, who's literally like a bottom five of the roster guy and just, you know, just can't play, just can't play.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_02]: Just can't move, can't play.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_05]: Finn, don't tell the other option Simon is another rookie, Zigg bears.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_05]: Or what Zigg bears, yeah, he's been, who has even less awareness than either of those two.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, and it just goes on and on and on, like, each piece, it's like, well, that piece doesn't fit with that piece and like Dodson, okay, so you're struggling to stop the run out front.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: So at least you've got lion matters who can run fit.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: Well, okay,
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: Willy Kay, who we all like, we all like Willy Kay, and we do, but the problem with Kay is that like he's great attacking the line of scrimmage when he's using his athletic ability and the instinct takes over.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: When he actually has to play with him the constructs of a scheme and a structure of a system,
- 25:33[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas activating ability can't be used quite as much.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: He can just get proud like a $10 hooker on payday.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what happened.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I mean, there's this one play that we were talking about in, in only things.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: Where $10 hookers actually exist.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man, I don't know.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: It was just a funny line that made Chris laugh, so I went into this point.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like the dolphins.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there was one play over right tackle where Dale will peaked up a big chunk of yards.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: running to the lead blocker, Dodson, who the hell knows what Dodson is doing.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: Jack Jones, I mean, couldn't have made the tackle, but just decided he wanted to punch the ball out, didn't end down or picked up, like an extra 20 yards, and there was somebody else who said, sorry, terrible as well, and it's just like, what are we doing?
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: Just a whole construction of everything, just there's been a complete failure, and that is on the general
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: How many more signs and messages just created does Stephen Ross need?
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: How it's not working the players that keep being selected either in the draft or in free agency are working.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: We've had no success despite tearing it down and having trumpeting the fact that we have three, three first round picks and then essentially, we've done all of them.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's not working, the guy who's getting the groceries is killing this team.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yes, there's a lot of blame to go around the coaching, but I'm with Chris on Anthony Weaver.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's extremely hard to do what you're trying to do when you just don't have the puzzle pieces.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I still think there's a good coach in my modernity or somewhere, but he's been killed by a terrible offensive line and a popcorn call back who isn't good enough overall to, I just don't even win consistently, but you can't, you know,
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: You can't run the ball.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: You can't throw the ball down the field because generally the court doesn't have time to do it unless you're doing something.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: There's no time in the run game who can block a down.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, how, who came up with this idea of roster construction is wild to me that we're in this situation?
- 27:44[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely wild.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_05]: With Mike McDonald, I just think the buck can't stop with him.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_05]: Like, I think he can't have the authority.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_05]: He needs to be limited.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_05]: by somebody.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_05]: Somebody over him needs to be standing over a shoulder and saying, I appreciate the effort here.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_05]: I appreciate the creativity.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_05]: But this is what we're doing.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_05]: You know what?
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: So you think you're being taking off playcalling and game.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_05]: Well, it could be, it could be able, it could be able to be done with him continuing to be the head coach.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_05]: I do think if he were to seed authority on the offense with the play calling and also with, you know, the offensive game plan, I think that there's not enough.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_05]: basic in his game, you know, when it comes to the run game, particularly.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_05]: And so I think that there's not enough detail in the passing game, but there's not enough basic in the run game.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_05]: It's way too, it's way too lopsided in that way.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_05]: And so, you know, you even see it with these with Kyle Shanahan sometimes, you know, they've had games before were because of injuries, they just have to run a lot of inside zone.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_05]: And it we're just talking about boring
- 29:00[SPEAKER_05]: And you have the offensive line come off afterward or like and even the running backs, they're like, you know, I kind of liked it.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_05]: We just we just kind of ran the same thing over and over again.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_05]: It's just basic football plays, you know, focus on your execution and things like that.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_05]: And I think that's a little bit missing from Mike mechanical.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_05]: I don't think he's good at I don't think he's good at containing himself and his ideas.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_05]: And I think somebody has to step in and be like,
- 29:30[SPEAKER_05]: this is, this is what we're doing because that's in the best interest of winning.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_05]: And so I think that that lit lens itself to him being an offensive coordinator, not a head coach.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_05]: That's that's why I'm a defender.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I got to get the sponsors in here and we're going to go to break, but did you guys see in the broadcast?
- 29:47[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think Simon might have seen it because in the broadcast, the comments I
- 29:55[SPEAKER_03]: The commentator had to apologize for Mike McDaniel because Mike McDaniel screamed fuck into the microphone.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: I thought somebody was going to apologize for the commentator turning every play into the final play, the steam ball.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's screaming out to the side I report her.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: I've heard so many people sing it in sprays as though, he was enthusiastic as hell.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone, every single play was like, it was like the seven seconds X and the Super, I think it's like fourth and goal.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's like what you do in May is first down on the third possession of the game, it's Neil Neil.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: Shut the fuck up, like.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, I didn't even watch.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't even watch the fact that I just watched the alt-22 because I was I had a family thing during the actual game Was that the South American soccer commentaire like it was fucking mad
- 30:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like Andres Cantor Andres Cantor Start screaming into the microphone to the point where you almost begins weeping on there Yeah, but I'm dying to see what
- 31:07[SPEAKER_03]: What Mike McDaniel was screaming fuck at because he was standing next to Aquaman, okay?
- 31:13[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm wondering who he was screaming fuck at the top of his lungs at in the on the sideline He's watching me Two is me.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_03]: It's it's happened Have you seen some of this Seven eye stuff It's embarrassing and we're gonna get to that on the other side of this break, but I got to get it get you guys into this

- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: higher on 0.5 intersections.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_03]: And I like Kelsey to get involved.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_03]: That team is actually coming around and my opinion the best team in the AFC.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_02]: So coachy, it's not a great team talk to borrow, coachy, different levels, absolutely like elite Hall of Fame coaches, Hall of Fame position coach, Hall of Fame and coach.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: That is not a brilliant roster.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: That might be the worst chiefs team of this

- 34:53[SPEAKER_03]: And no, I'm not reading any more ads.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: Thompson's a guy who's also with us, but that's a recorded ad that's probably playing rep before I just came back here.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_03]: I want to get into some of the coaching in this game.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_03]: Because I'm one in the offensive coordinator, which essentially had coach, it's like Danny, he's the offensive coordinator, and nobody else really does anything else there.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: He figures that out by, with a 22% L last week, how if you get to a on the move, you mitigate the past rush that way, you could even create some, some shot plays.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_03]: You have a tight end that can threaten all areas of the field.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: You have a good deep threat in jail and water.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_03]: And you have one of the best pass catching running backs in all the football.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_03]: yet you run no sale concepts whatsoever with these guys I've just finished watching the all 22 for the offense earlier this morning and couldn't find one.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_03]: I just couldn't find one.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_03]: He calls offense as if he's checking a list.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: I got water involved here.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I got to get water now involved.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: So let's start running a bunch of design passes for for water.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_03]: You know what?
- 36:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's like if he's calling plays with a checklist on the defensive side, you have Anthony Weaver while I'm pretty certain is watching the same film I am and seeing these teams are just doing dual blocking our defensive tackles to death.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_03]: They've decided, yeah, we're just going to do that over and over and over again and it's four yards that anyway you slice it it's four yards easily because you don't really have to try too hard to get to the second level and it's already four yards right.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_03]: So what does Anthony we've decided to do play a ton of even fronts that make make it easier for your opponent to do a block here defensive tackles.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_03]: Look, we've thought that these guys are actually kind of good and we didn't like the roster too much.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm starting to think that not only is the roster not good enough.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_03]: I think these coaches are bad too.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_03]: You're thought to sign.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: No, I mean, I request the point, Chris, my dad, everyone.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think the coach is bad.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: I go back to Ross.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what else to say.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: I said for months, I said pre-draft post-draft, the roster isn't good enough.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: The players aren't good enough.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: the way that tight-end room, the interior defensive line room, the secondary has been constructed is just not acceptable.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a good room and on rooms and I think that's bearing fruit.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's really hard for a guy like I had some guy like saying to me, I sell, here's your boy, look at your boy.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: Weaver can't stop the ride.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's not the one that's out there missing tackles.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: He's not the one out there like getting dog walked eight yards of the line, like Kenneth Grant was.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_02]: He's not the one that can't hold out at the point of attack.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_02]: He's not the one that's getting run.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's trying to do all the things he's trying to do.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: And the personal Chris can't do it.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I just don't know there's anyone to say about it.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_02]: And that are the coaches like,
- 38:16[SPEAKER_02]: partly to blame.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_02]: Of course they are coaching isn't good enough and we've just talked like the chief before the break.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: The coaching is really good there and it's not good in Miami.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, by God, they're not bit, nobody's helping them out.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody's helping them out.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: Go through one by one of those players on defense and tell me who's playing well on defense.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: Bradley Chab, no, no explosion.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he's had a couple of sacks with any clean-up sacks.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_02]: Short Robinson can be disappeared off the face of the earth.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: Jennifer Nips had a good sack this week with generally has been fairly anonymous and all three that have been
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: liabilities against the run.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_02]: In two, we've already talked about linebacks we've talked about.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: Chris went schoolster in the secondary and he's absolutely right because they've generally been terrible.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: I mean when Dante Trader the guy the car run is arguably, arguably been your best secondary player.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, we're tossing up the performances of guys who we literally picked up off the street, going into the mid portion of camp and then going into the season because
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: And we had to play a rookie late round draft pick at Nickel because the guy that he brought in early to mid in camp was really not good enough.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: What I don't know what he's brought people.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what I don't know a bill bell check.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: Giant bill bell check would do with this defense that would make it any different.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_02]: or buddy Ryan, back in 85, it's so bad, it's the construction, it's the personality, it's the inability for somebody's weakness to be covered by another person's strength.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's not what you're not, and that Christomy is the most damning indictment of all of this, and people can sit on social media and say, weaver sucks, weaver this, weaver that, no, it's not amazing for me, I don't know what else you can do mate, I don't know what else you can do,
- 40:05[SPEAKER_03]: They could stop by playing Chop Robinson more.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: But he's not doing anything, he's playing.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he had a penalty yesterday.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, he was getting him to run V1.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: And when he rushes, he rushes far too far up the field.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_02]: He rushes past the quarterback's drop point.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_02]: And then they just, they're just working side.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't, I don't know.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he must be injured from the knee injury
- 40:35[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I think that's that is that is true.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_05]: I think that there is something going on there, but even at the running game, I mean, you break down Rico battles big performance and, you know, the thing that separates it and I know that this is like, you know, as I from that Mrs. Lincoln.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_05]: It's the big plays and if you look at those big plays and what he did on those plays and you find like the discreet missed tackles and things like that, you know, that it goes back to Simon's point.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_05]: Like what is schematically you're supposed to do?
- 41:07[SPEAKER_05]: What are you supposed to do schematically?
- 41:09[SPEAKER_05]: about, you know, Jack Jones running up to a guy, Lee Roy Jenkins, like, and just, you know, trying to punch the ball out and instead missing the tackle and the guy gets another 20 yards or something like that.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_05]: Like that, there's, there's not much, what are you supposed to do in some of these situations where, you know, guys are are just completely missing the run fit and I mean completely.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_05]: Jordan Brooks even being one of those guys on on plays.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_05]: Um, I think that what we saw yesterday is, uh, is Jack Jones.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_05]: Um, and this is the reason why I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to predict he's not starting next week.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_05]: I believe I believe that that is again, that's not inside information.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_05]: That's all 22 put together with, you know, some other stuff that I'm hearing out of them in the press conferences, you know, the guy the guy is just it is all over the place when it comes to the run when it comes to tackling.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_05]: when it comes to coverage, just everything.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_05]: I don't think he's well-liked by the defense.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_05]: He's the guy, there's keep saying, why aren't they celebrating?
- 42:13[SPEAKER_05]: Why aren't they celebrating?
- 42:15[SPEAKER_05]: He's the guy that was like three of those plays where it's like, how come nobody's celebrating with him?
- 42:20[SPEAKER_05]: It's him.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_05]: And I think he's not well-liked because I think he hangs other players out to drive.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_05]: And that's why I think he's done.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_05]: But I think that overall, you have a very messy situation
- 42:34[SPEAKER_05]: to execute 11 man defense, because everything is about moving this and then leaving this open now.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_05]: And then you move this and now that leaves that open now.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_05]: And you have these guys trying to make, I don't want to call it selfish place.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_05]: They're just trying to make the play, but they're trying to make the play because they think that they have to make the play.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_05]: And so you have, you have a lot of quote unquote freelancing and things like that.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_05]: Defensively, I'm just not sure what you're supposed to do.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_05]: I'm really not sure what they're supposed to do at this point because we talked about just on previous shows.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_05]: Anthony Weaver is like, you know, I'm blitzing to stop the run.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_05]: You know, like he's blitzing to stop the run.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, but you blitzing to stop the run and then you get caught in a pass and and and you've got this secondary back there.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, that's that's that's going to be tough.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_05]: So I go flipping to the offensive side of the ball, where I think, you know, we've just had this constant soap opera with the Mike Daniel offence over this the four years.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_05]: I really think that there's there is a lack of variability in what they do at the line.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_05]: the ability to get into and out of good plays and bad plays.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_05]: I think that that's the style, looking at, in particular, the way that they, the Panthers, you know, sub to their personnel and what they were doing on specific plays and specific situations.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_05]: I can't tell you that they knew for sure what the offense was going to do on specific plays.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_05]: But the Panthers sure acted like they knew what the offense was going to do on certain plays.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, so that means that you have an advanced scout problem, a film scout problem where you're getting your establishing tendencies that you're going to that the other side can call.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_05]: And if you don't have a lot of variability, then this becomes tech mobile, or if somebody calls your play, it's over.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_05]: You know, like this is, and so I think that that's the, that's part of the problem on offense.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_05]: The other part of the problem is that, you know, again, I don't think Mike McDaniel can contain himself to boring place, even if the boring place executed very well over and over again to where the guys get good repetition at it, even if that can be the answer.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_05]: Even if those are the body blows, that'll win you the later rounds in the fight.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_05]: You know, and I don't think that that's, I don't think that he is capable of doing that on, you know, left to his own devices with the big whistle around his neck, you know, so I think that yes, there is a coaching problem, but the coaching is good enough to win and they have won.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_05]: We've seen them.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_05]: We've seen them win when they had better personnel, right?
- 45:26[SPEAKER_05]: They didn't win the big games.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_05]: They didn't win anything of that we would consider to be of note, not a playoff game, they're always limping to the finish, et cetera.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_05]: But I think they're good enough to win.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_05]: I question whether they're good enough to win it all.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_05]: And right now, I think Anthony weaver fits into that because he himself is an experience as a defensive coordinator, remember this is only a second season of being hired as a defensive coordinator by a team right so he doesn't even have his own voice like when he's asked, did you step up and say I don't have enough talent.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_05]: He says, you know, somebody else buys a groceries, I just cook, right?
- 46:07[SPEAKER_05]: And, and that's where as we know that the other the on the other hand, Vic Fangeo would have said something different to that question, because he did say something different to that question, right?
- 46:17[SPEAKER_05]: He's the one that got up there in those press conferences and complained and said,
- 46:22[SPEAKER_05]: They weren't asking me, I mentioned this, I mentioned that, they didn't do it, you know, like he was complaining about the personnel efforts.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_05]: I don't think that Anthony Weaver having been hired just hired this, you know, last year to in his first real job as defense coordinator, I don't think he's found that voice yet, that demanding voice that's like, no, you can't give me Jack Jones.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_05]: You know, and and we're sold Douglas part way through training camp and expect this any of this to happen, you know, you can't give me this guy doesn't fit that guy doesn't fit, you know, you have to give me guys.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_05]: It's like Nick Saben when he when he when he was trying to deal with Randy Mueller as is general manager, he complained he's like, listen, I would think that if I said that we need this this and this.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_05]: That you would get me this this and this, you know, that that you would get me the players that fit that description instead you're just kind of free landing as a general manager.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but this guy is good.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_05]: This guy is really good.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_05]: This guy will, you know, and, and you know, just coaches make it all work together.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_05]: That doesn't fly.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_05]: And so I think that I think that Anthony we've probably is going to learn from this.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_05]: and be a better defense coordinator, a better voice, a better advocate for what he needs on defense because of this disaster.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_05]: You know, he's in the midst of that right now.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_05]: And so, you know, we'll see it happen and we'll probably be for some other team unfortunately.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they got to look, the trade deadline is, what, four weeks away, five weeks away, something like that.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: They made four people are trading people away.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we better be trading people away.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: They can't be trading four people, why would you waste draft pace?
- 48:14[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, this is what I'm, what I'm getting at.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_03]: you're going to have at the trade deadline.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think Bradley chips going to have good counting stats.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_03]: That's going to fool somebody into throwing us a pick for Bradley Joe.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_05]: What's what's that contract like?
- 48:29[SPEAKER_05]: I should know yeah.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's 16.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's 16 million.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, I'm most of it will be paid.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_03]: Most of it will be paid by that by that trade deadline.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_03]: And here's what I'm getting it.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_03]: do you want this general manager to be the one trading these players?
- 48:50[SPEAKER_03]: Why not fire Chris Greer now?
- 48:53[SPEAKER_03]: And that way you can have, you know, like we kind of know who's the guy waiting, right?
- 49:00[SPEAKER_02]: So then that's called problem.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_02]: This is called problem.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: something it's a guy who's already in the building but it needs to fucking be clean out completely.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like this whole park, let's give it to this guy here because he's been here along.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's not what's needed.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't need the same people who've been in the building whether that's champ Kelly or whoever.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: It needs to be clean out completely and you go to like you go, who are the best GMs in the league?
- 49:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's Jason Litt, it's Harry Roseman.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's Brian Gutenkeens, you know, it's what's his name at Kansas City, it's like let's go and find guys that will work with them for a long time.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: Like who is Jason Leex number two?
- 49:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like who is goodies number two?
- 49:46[SPEAKER_02]: just take these people out of the equation that have been involved with the Dolphins for 10, 15, 20 years.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: It needs growing up and starting, and if you don't, it's literally the definition of madness is just completely redoing the same thing over and oh, and that's what we're doing.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_02]: I can see exactly what happened next year.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_02]: I hope you'll be able to be with you and Champe Kelly, or be a general manager at the same scale.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: So the end growth, it'll be a run-broking turn, it'll be all of these people.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_02]: and it'll be exactly the same thing.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_02]: The same people do in order, the video work and Alice is ahead of games, the same people, you know, instructing the jail on who to pick, who the better, you know, I think it's, it's been part of the disease.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_02]: It is, and like I don't want to advocate for people to get, I know people there, I don't want to advocate for them to lose their jobs.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_02]: But if you can do it, do it properly or don't do it at all, because I, it measures keep
- 50:39[SPEAKER_02]: You're just shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like, why would you not just completely clean house and say, you know what, I'm just going to, everyone is going to go.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_02]: I just got a rebuild it from scratch.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_05]: I think that could happen, that could actually happen because you know the thing that hurts.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_05]: The thing that I keep hearing and that I had been told for a while now this off season is that the owner Steve Ross was not told that this could be a bad, you know, that this, that we're taking a little bit of a step back, you know, like, like this is this is a, this could be an FET team, it could go, you know, we're using them we got a lot of young guys and stuff like that that's not what he was sold.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_05]: by the people under that that he hired.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_05]: He was sold that this is a quality team.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_05]: He was sold that this is a quality team and it is not.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_05]: They're one and four and they're on their way to worse in my opinion.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_05]: And so, you know, I think that there really could come to that.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_05]: And I think there was quite a bit of subtext today when Mike McDaniel revealed that, you know, he talks Steve Ross after the game.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_05]: Steve Ross was very frustrated as was Mike McDaniel.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_05]: And they talked about the challenge of getting ready for the chargers next week, right?
- 51:57[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_05]: Well, the char, who's coaching the chargers, you know, Jim Harbaugh?
- 52:01[SPEAKER_05]: A lot of history there with Jim Harbaugh.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_05]: Justin Herbert, a lot of history there, too, with what was going on in the draft at that time, which we've covered in only fins and such.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I think that that whole, you know, we talked about getting ready for the challenge of next week.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_05]: I wouldn't be surprised if that gets translated into, you don't beat them if you get embarrassed by them next week, then yes, we are walking into a Monday morning firing.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_05]: of Mike McDaniel as the head coach mid-season.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_05]: And at that point, you know, yes, Anthony weaver could take over as the interim guy.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_05]: But he's obviously got a deck stacked against him.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_05]: We've seen how that ends.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_05]: We don't end up hiring the tide bowls.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_05]: We don't end up hiring the Dan Campbell.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_05]: you know when when when they get in put in these situations, you know, yeah.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_05]: And so we have we're probably going to end up losing Anthony Weaver because I'm not saying that he's this great asset that we shouldn't we don't want to lose.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_05]: I'm just saying this is how we'll proceed.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_05]: And then we'll
- 53:11[SPEAKER_05]: they'll probably be a full-clean house and, you know, I keep paying attention to Nick Saban and, you know, what's he doing?
- 53:19[SPEAKER_05]: I think he has been, everybody from all these different directions are telling me the same thing from a different angle, which is that Nick Saban is going back in the coaching system.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_05]: You know, the television people think that he's going back in the coaching
- 53:37[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, you know, other people associated with in other areas of the industry, think that he's going, I can't put football pretty soon.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_05]: He lives not that far away from the Miami, from where the Miami dolphins are right now.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_05]: Obviously, there's a unfinished business down there.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not saying that it's not that it will happen, but this is Steve Ross's like, you know, I want to hire.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_05]: a big name guy who can remake the whole friggin' program, you know, and it's what Wayne Hayes ended with Bill Parcells just before he relinquished ownership to Steve Ross, and I think that it's what Steve Ross could do before he takes a step back and starts having his daughter and her family take a big role.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing just massive rebuild like hiring a 73-year-old.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, right.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, is he 73?
- 54:36[SPEAKER_05]: It wouldn't.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_02]: And you're 74 next week.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I don't think it would be as at, you know, this is just my, I don't know what it would be, but I mean, I don't think it would be as I had coach to be on this with Nick Sabon, I think it would be something like in charge of the program and pick, pick your guy because there's, there's a reality to being.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_05]: That's old ideas.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_03]: This is this is interesting.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_03]: Nick Sabon was born on Halloween.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_03]: I knew that.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, over 30.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_03]: Trust me.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_02]: I. Right.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_02]: His base this year is 1.25 million.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_02]: Capit is 12.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_02]: But next two years.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_02]: Base.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_02]: 19.4 million.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_02]: 18.4 million.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_05]: Job.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_05]: Job.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_05]: You're only trading him to a team that's going to take this the rest of this contract, which is peanuts for the rest of this year.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_05]: And just because you're plugging in a player that you have a serious need, something is
- 55:32[SPEAKER_05]: you have a serious need.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_05]: It's it's a nothing trade.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_05]: You're not going to get anything for it.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_05]: Jalen Phillips has monitored monetary value.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_05]: You can monetize them for for something.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_05]: We can't even know.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_05]: Chob, I can see them got off the fittings.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, that's right.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_05]: No, they should be sellers.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_05]: They should be sellers, not buyers, certainly.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_02]: 100%, 100%, I mean, what?
- 55:59[SPEAKER_03]: They have to fire, but they have to fire Chris Greer before any of these decisions get made.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I don't get.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_03]: the deck chips on the Titanic.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_03]: I don't understand that.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's been paid 2.5 million this year.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_02]: And then we took up the fifth.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_02]: So it is what 13 million next year.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_05]: Who's who's that jails on our fifth year that fifth year is this year like oh Of course the encouragement five years down.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, so that in twenty five million Yeah, it's it's a sizable it's a sizable deal to take on you know kind of midyear Although it's got a discount because they've already taken out five games worth of it
- 56:41[SPEAKER_05]: Um, he's got like, and if but he's young, he's not he's ready to get that new that next contract and that next contract And not even gonna be a huge one because it's not in position to ask and that's why I would caution about try I would caution Don't do it.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, he's only just gonna be a mistake Yeah, that could be a mistake for like he's a building block for Miami potentially right
- 57:06[SPEAKER_03]: like you might not want to trade that out like you might get lucky on this next contract if you're watching with defensive ends are making it's it's ridiculous.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I won't be surprised.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_05]: I wouldn't be surprised though.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_05]: If Miami ends up with some even we're just wrapping about next possibilities, but like if they end up with like a next same and kind of a team president situation and shooting for Lane Kiffin as a head coach.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_05]: Um, you know, and we'll see what happens with Brian Dable in New York as well, but like I I really wouldn't be surprised with Lane Kiffin.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_05]: I think that there's there's some opportunities to be had with the college coaching now that they've got full NIL.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_05]: which is very NFL-like, right.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_05]: And so now that that landscape has changed so tumultuously, seeing which guys are doing better than their programs, you know, should be.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_05]: And this changed landscape because they get to just like throw around money and get and get players like and not even a lot not even necessarily a lot of money, but you get to see who's actually good at things and who's not good at things.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_05]: I think Lane Kiffin could be one of those guys.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_05]: It's actually good at things.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_05]: And he's he seasoned at this point.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and if you remember when when Hurricane's hired my real crystal ball.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_03]: Lane Kiffin was a candidate and he was He wanted agent.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, his agent was basically saying they offer it.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going like that's he was my be down there He took wasn't he wasn't in the head of wasn't he and the culture was he wanted the other team's down there
- 58:44[SPEAKER_05]: F.A.U or F.I.U or F.I.U or F.I.U or F.I.U or F.I.U.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, he was coaching F.I.U.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_05]: He loves that area.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_05]: He wants to be down there, I think.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_05]: And so, you know, I really think that he could be a guy.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_05]: Obviously, he's an NFL.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_05]: He's been an NFL head coach, by the way.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the other guys keep an eye on, I think, is John Harbour.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's going badly wrong and vote small.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, Lamar Jackson's out.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the message that it is clearly archiving the Baltimore newspaper, also kind of just having a look around and it's clear that the message that seems to be coming through the media is that I think it happens with everything it happens with every sport, but
- 59:31[SPEAKER_02]: The same message over and over again becomes tired at some point.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_02]: If you're a veteran player, you've just heard the same thing.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: If you're runny Stanley or if you're any of those players who've been there multiple years and it's not going well, you're just hearing the same message over and over.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's working with that call, the defense coordinator, but it's certainly not working with Harbour, and I think it seems like a lot of fans have come turned and just like we just, and it's a sort of thing that the ownership, you know,
- 59:59[SPEAKER_02]: small guy and I think that would be a it would be a massive divorce if that happened but I don't they're sorry to cut the shocks it's a perfect storm if you think about it's a perfect storm because what's happening to the ravens is this it's not that they're playing poorly although they have
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_03]: but they are injured and I'm talking about injured across the board from their quarterbacks to the running backs that they're they're their entire second day is injured right now.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_03]: They're missing a defensive tackle.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_03]: Their best past Russia is out.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_03]: They're an absolute mess and that owner heard all offseason, including somebody on this show.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_03]: But like, and he's looking at his dumpster fire and he's like, yeah, I'm going to find done horrible.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_02]: Look who was available yesterday, right, machine alley, Derek Henry, Justice Hill, Patrick Ricard, Rashad Babin, safe flowers, Deondry Hockkins, Test Walker, Mark Andrews, Isaiah Lightley, Faleigh, Linda Bar, Rosengarn, Ronnie Stanley, John Jenkins, Travis Jones,
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_02]: Mike Greene, first round pick, a job of first round pick, a defao, a first round pick, since the second round pick, Roquon Smith, Car Van Noy, had eight and a half sex last year, and it's had a number sex this year.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_02]: Ousea, Carl Hammer, Marlon Humphrey, Malachi Starks, TJ Tamper, Nate Wiggins, two first round is the second round of that.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_02]: Do you not mean like, that is a roster that should be of two cope without Lamar for a couple of weeks.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_02]: And they're one of the best.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_05]: Do you get stales?
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_05]: times, you know, they do, they want to treat it and they go, absolutely, you don't will, yes, say, by the Texas, but the other, the other guy to keep in time, no, the other guy to keep in mind that we've talked about before is Kevin Stephanski, two time coach of the year, you know, with the Cleveland Browns, obviously that is a very questionable ownership slash, you know, for an office
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_05]: And so that would be, you know, if Steve Ross is going to go for somebody, he's going to go for, you know, a big name, maybe a proven guy, probably a proven guy this time around because I don't think I don't think they're going to go for this first time and coach stuff anymore.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_05]: There's too many growing paints.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_05]: They're suffering for it.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_05]: They're suffering over and over through first time head coach growing paints.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_05]: And so, you know, I don't know that they're going to want to do that anymore.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_05]: And so, you know, you look at guys like Kevin's to fancy or if John Harbock and shake loose.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the one thing about Stefanski is you look at the game yesterday for example and I think that one go well for him in the eyes of ownership, is that Kevin O'Connor They start three back up offensive linemen including they're both tackles out on Neil and Dara Shaw They're a
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_02]: then a backup quarterback, he started running back on IR.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_02]: He benched Jordan out of some for the first quarter.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_02]: He was playing the top defense in the league.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_02]: They fumbled twice, maybe three times.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_02]: They missed a field goal.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_02]: Seven penalties for 50 yards here on the bot school.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's cool about with set three times.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_02]: And his backup quarterback had to leave in the first half to go and get shot and he sold it.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_02]: a lefty-givic marion, Gabriel.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_02]: I had to leave him the first time, I had to get a shot in his shoulder, played the second half banged up, and the Vikings still found a way to win against that Kevin Stefanski team.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_02]: He is a guy that I'd definitely think could shake out the end of the season.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_02]: As would be Jonathan Gannon, who I'd hire yesterday as a defensive coordinator.
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_03]: good coaches, you know, you can find them like they're out there, but this shiny, you know, this thing that Stephen Ross has done over and over again obviously has not worked.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_03]: This, you know, I'm going to get the new guy.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to get the, you know, I'm going to hit Bingo with somebody who's never really done the job before.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_03]: And he keeps failing at it.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_03]: But look, you know, it was pretty interesting higher this past off season was Brian Shottenheimer in Dallas.
- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_03]: They're playing better, but did you see what they pulled off yesterday?
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_03]: They hung 37 on the jets, and they had four backup offensive linemen, two of which they got off the street, and Terrence Steel.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_03]: That was their offensive line.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_03]: yesterday.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_03]: And they scored 37 points against the jets.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, all right, we're going to leave it right here.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_03]: The next time we talk to you, we will preview dolphins, chargers, but till then.
- 1:04:55[UNKNOWN]: You
