- 1:22Speaker 1: All right, so where are we going to start out?
- 1:23Speaker 1: Let's talk about the offshore fishing.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I was talking to my friend, captain Barry Sawyer on the waist knot last night and Barry of course, last week on his boat.
- 1:33Speaker 1: They brought in a 741 pound bluefin tuna.
- 1:36Speaker 1: They're the biggest of his life.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I never caught anything close to that big and that season closed.
- 1:42Speaker 1: That was the last fish of the recreational season.
- 1:44Speaker 1: You can only keep one of those big ones a year and right after his was caught the season closed.
- 1:49Speaker 1: We still do have boats recreational fishing for those bluefin tuna and while they're doing that now they're starting to see some early yellow fins in the 30 to 40 pound range.
- 1:59Speaker 1: What would I love to have some of those to throw on the grill for dinner tonight, but those are available, so it's kind of a mixed bag.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Same thing been going on down to Hatteras.
- 2:08Speaker 1: They've been catching yellow fins, blue fins and a few black fins.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Like always down there, they really seem to have the edge when it comes to blackfin tuna and wahoo, but I haven't seen much in the way of wahoo so far.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Get closer to the beach.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Our surf fishermen really just catching skates and sharks and not much effort and not much to catch right now, but it won't be too long.
- 2:30Speaker 1: We'll see some puffers show up and we'll see some of the first sea mollusks of the year, and everybody will get rolling with that Back in the sound.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Especially in our western estuaries over towards Hyde County, bellhaven, swan Quarter, engelhardt, if you can find a deep slough, the trout seem to be laying up there and they love those ditches.
- 2:49Speaker 1: They'll go up those ditches.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Ricky Rackliffe tells us all the time that that's a great place to go and to fish.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So speckled trout bite is on.
- 2:58Speaker 1: They're not the great, great big ones, but there's good numbers if you can find them.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Don't forget, though, that you're in cold, cold water, cold weather, and be sure you file a float plan, and also be sure you just dress appropriately.
- 3:11Speaker 1: A good mustang suit would be a good investment in this cold water right now.
- 3:16Speaker 1: You know you don't want to be in the water and you don't want people not to know where you're at.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Finally, the last thing in today's fishing report is about inland fishing, and that means basically fresh water.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Like Manamasky, eastlake Lake, thelps and all the ditches along the highways are very, very favorite spots, especially Highway 264 through Eastlake, and that bite is.
- 3:40Speaker 1: There's a few crappy not a lot, but a few crappy but some pretty good yellow perch fishing and it shouldn't be too long.
- 3:46Speaker 1: We start hearing some reports about white perch and catfish and things like that, as the water is warm up just a little bit.
- 3:52Speaker 1: So that's what you have going on, just like I always say, because on the Outer Banks you can always go fishing for something somewhere if you're hardy enough to go do it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: After all, you're not going to catch them in the motel room, so go out wet a line.
- 4:06Speaker 1: That's my report for you this morning.
