- 0:00Am is dad steering from people he's supposed to help. King of Deeves,
- 0:06we worship you. Ah, he is steering log at me, guys,
- 0:13I'm stealing five seguyes at once. And speaking of segways, I'm after my
- 0:18next morally questionable activity. Four finger discount. Dude, welcome to four figure
- 0:40discount. Your show with Ghindando or with Dan and Guy were hit a review
- 0:46Crooking Ladder. But we just had a discussion that thirty seconds ago about the
- 0:49pronunciation whether it should be ghand and guys, let's talk me up the show.
- 0:52So that's what we're doing. Everything is content. Ah, A good
- 0:57buddy atue for guys. Conversation about how we to a deli last week.
- 1:03This is an early indication of how good Crooked Ladder was. Perhaps I didn't
- 1:07mind it, but yeah, continue, so tell me about what what abit
- 1:10to bring up? Guy down a Dane and Guy. This is a long
- 1:12story as money of minor. How long should you say for later in the
- 1:15show? Oh no, no, actually not that long. Just recently it
- 1:19was reported that a movie is going to come out, something like a spinoff
- 1:23of Ferris Bueller's Day Off called I think it's called Vic and Donnie's day off
- 1:29or something like that. But it's the two guys who they're the valets who
- 1:34take the Ferrari, you know the scene. Yeah, yeah, and it's
- 1:38just about their day. And a good buddy of mine on social media said,
- 1:44well, it's probably not called Vic donni'ess. I should look this up
- 1:47and find out what it's actually called. But I'll look it up while you
- 1:49tell me this. But the thing of it is, yes, he pointed
- 1:53out, and quite brightly. So I think it's like, yeah, if
- 1:57it's going to be called that, really Sam and Victor day off, Sam
- 2:00and Victor, Okay, it should be called Victor and Sam's day off because
- 2:04you need to have the two syllable name at the start. It always flows
- 2:09better, I think. So we have talked about this in the part when
- 2:14I first became part of the four Finger discount network and you very graciously said
- 2:20you gave me top billing. It's like, oh, it's Guy and Dando.
- 2:22It's like, that's great, I appreciate it. And you know,
- 2:23in a perfect world, guy always gets top billing. But the other thing
- 2:28is dand one guy sounds better, and Guy and Dando the end and the
- 2:32Dando sort of flow into each other and it's all about the flow though.
- 2:38Yeah, Dando and Guy dan Do and guy Guy and Dando. But this
- 2:42is the thing that but why does the two syllbols have to be first?
- 2:45Though? Why? What is the purpose of the two syllables being first?
- 2:47This is one of those things it's very hard to explain, or not even
- 2:50hard to explain. Just you gotta feel it. Famous duos Martin and Lewis.
- 2:57So Tom and Jerry, there you go, Jerry and Tom. No,
- 3:00it doesn't work, Tom and Jerry. But we're used to hearing Tom
- 3:02and everyone's used to Burton Ernie. Oh god, damn it. I had
- 3:07a really good argument and then you just trump it with facts. Any I'm
- 3:12shouldn't find one, will continue only to find one more just there. But
- 3:15yeah, so you think that's what it should have been. I still think
- 3:20given that you are the mover and shaker, the prime driver, the big
- 3:24hoona of four finger discount productions, you should be in front when I say
- 3:30ghost. That's why it's going to be Gian Dando. Anyway, though,
- 3:35Crooked and Ladder, there we go, and thank god we got a new
- 3:39names challenge coming up. That can provide us with great new names for crooked
- 3:43ladder? Yes, what was his title of play on? Do you think
- 3:45is it cloak and dagger? Maybe let's look at the references. Usually says
- 3:50it in the on the wiki page. Nothing here but the title crooked ladder.
- 3:53That's the only thing I can think of that sort of sounds vaguely similar,
- 3:57because crooked ladder. No, I can't think of anything. There's probably
- 4:00something right there that all the listeners are going, you idiots, this is
- 4:03what it is. How many times have I said, yeah, I'm terrible
- 4:05at this. Simpson's mail bag at gmail dot com right in, or you're
- 4:09a patient abour, just comment let us know what is crooked ladder? A
- 4:13take off of please do not Snakes and ladders? Wouldn't be would it is
- 4:16crooked ladder? I think do they even place snakes and ladders in the States
- 4:20because they tend to call it like shoots and roundabouts or something. No,
- 4:24that have to play snakes and ladders. It can't be an Australian thing,
- 4:26snakes and ladders. Maybe it's a UK thing and then we've just incorporated into
- 4:30our culture. No, No, snakes letters have to be a thing,
- 4:31snakes and ladders. It was brought to the United Kingdom. It was originated
- 4:36in India. There you go, United Kingdom. Shoots and ladders. Maybe
- 4:41that's what they call in the States. Maybe yeah, yeah, who knows.
- 4:44Anyway, enough about that, because snakes and ladders doesn't necessarily these are
- 4:48not two things that taste great together, like Dan don't go. Yeah,
- 4:51it's like, oh, I climb a ladder, but I slide down a
- 4:54saint also snakes and ladders. It's everywhere you look, gy where you look.
- 5:00It really is a regret starting his argument, which wasn't even really an
- 5:05argument anyway. I want to touch Befo. We'll get into your deli story
- 5:10a little bit later. We'll tease that one. So have it really a
- 5:12deli store? We all know guys had He's on his health kick at the
- 5:15moment. The Kido diet is what it's called kiddo essentially. Yes, it's
- 5:18basically, don'ty calves, don't need sugar. Yes, he spoiled himself last
- 5:24yesterday? Was it yesterday yesterday? And you'll find out what it was.
- 5:27What was on this delicious deli sandwich a little bit later in the show.
- 5:31You're really going to be hanging on on to find out guy had a sandwich?
- 5:36Yeah, what do you think was on guys sandwich? Spend the next
- 5:39forty five minutes trying to guess and then play a game with yourself. It's
- 5:43supposed to play with yourself like it's also a game, yes, suitable,
- 5:49suitable for one player, but crook and ladder. So you've obviously said that
- 5:57you didn't really enjoy this one. This is my thoughts on it, right.
- 5:59I thought this is an episode that another one of those ones where you
- 6:01go if this had more focus and more of a fleshed out idea that has
- 6:06a lot of potential. In my opinion, this episode, it's a lot
- 6:09a lot of potential, but they wasted too much time at the start of
- 6:12getting to them becoming firefighters. I think this could have been one of those
- 6:15episodes where kind of like a flashback one, kind of like the b Sharp's
- 6:18episode where it's just you, guys, don't remember that time that we were
- 6:21firefighters and it flashes back. I just think that this one here spent like
- 6:27six seven minutes trying to get them becoming firefighters, and it didn't really make
- 6:30sense. It's like Maggie wants to pacifire. Then Homer can't sleep and that's
- 6:33why he takes the tablets, and then he has a crash, and then
- 6:35then he becomes a firefighter. I'm just like, I felt like half the
- 6:39episode wash by the time we got to the actual meat of it. Yeah,
- 6:42and then you quite a really nice sandwich, and then you get to
- 6:46the end of the episode, and the ending felt so rushed and just out
- 6:49of nowhere, where it was just Homer telling the kids and that's why we
- 6:53learned out lesson. That was the end of that story. And I was
- 6:55like, you didn't start off with Homer telling a story, though, weird
- 6:59that it ended with Homer retelling the story to the kids, Like this whole
- 7:01episode has been a story. It was just so bizarre, felt so rushed.
- 7:04More of the episode should have been focused on the conflict of right and
- 7:08wrong. Wrong, absolutely so. It should have been mid episode where the
- 7:11kids see him stealing, and then the last half of the episode, last
- 7:14act and a half, should have been him having the conflict in his mind
- 7:17and with the kids, please do the right thing, dad, blah blah
- 7:19blah. Right. Instead, it was like the last three minutes it really
- 7:24was. This episode felt just really hastily assembled again out of spare parts.
- 7:30Yeah, I mean this, Yeah, this first ten to fifteen minutes.
- 7:32I mean, I'm not sure exactly how long it was before we got to
- 7:36yeah, the general thrust of the story, but it seemed like age is
- 7:41that. Honestly, it did seem like half the episode. I like it
- 7:45when they get an ensemble of characters and put them together doing something two millions
- 7:47and do before, and I know that they tend to always go They're always
- 7:51trying to pooh in these things that the pin pals. Remember when they went
- 7:57to another country to get to the drugs, they went to Mexico, but
- 8:01that wasn't Canada or Canada, but I went to know the country get to
- 8:05get the drugs or the medicines and things like. That's always a pooth thrown
- 8:07in there. But I thought there was definitely a story here that, if
- 8:11fleshed out properly, was definitely would have been far more enjoyable. Yeah,
- 8:15I mean, not to do the Monday morning quarterback and think of like this
- 8:18is how you should have done it, guys, But I mean, I
- 8:20think I would have preferred this if Yah, Homer becomes part of a volunteer
- 8:24firefighting team quickly discovers that it's risky work, but you also can get compensated
- 8:31for it. There's perks there, there are perks to it. But along
- 8:35the way he realizes, oh, you know, we're looking up, we're
- 8:37looking after these really rich people and getting nothing for it. Someone else in
- 8:43the group is like, yeah, we're not getting anything. That's probably going
- 8:46to be mo who starts pinching stuff. Hom It does it once, you
- 8:50know, he's like, maybe he needs to get like a new pacifier or
- 8:52something. He pinches a pacifier because he needs one. Yeah, and like,
- 8:58oh, well, can get and it escalates, escalates, escalades,
- 9:01and then he realized, oh no, wait a minute, I'm doing good,
- 9:05but I'm also doing bad. And in the end, you know,
- 9:07the moral scales are put back in justice. It does the right thing.
- 9:09And I say, stealing from burns too. It should have been for it
- 9:11to feel even more wrong stealing from someone who doesn't deserve it. Yes,
- 9:16by all means steal from the rich. I mean I'm down for grand lasting
- 9:20as the next person. But then gets so sort of hooked on it that
- 9:22you end up taking a little bit from everywhere you go, and then you,
- 9:26yeah, you maybe took a pacifier from some place, and another baby
- 9:30starts crying. These are not great ideas. I'm just spitballing. But yeah,
- 9:33again, it just felt like we got to the when it ended up
- 9:35went oh, that's the end. This didn't really have an endy. It
- 9:39was just hey, mo, I think we're doing the wrong thing. Yeah,
- 9:41you're probably right. Hey it's a clock. And then a poo gets
- 9:43hurt. Homer saves the day by taking it out of the house. Have
- 9:48they learned their lesson? It's just I think they have. I haven't learned
- 9:50a lesson that, and I haven't been taught a lesson either. There's no
- 9:54repercussions for their actions, it seems, because they've got to deccept. You
- 9:58know. The kids are looking at home and like Dad's gone bad. Yeah,
- 10:01because we got to the end. It's almost like they got to the
- 10:03end and we went wait a minute, they didn't learn that lessons quick throwing
- 10:05the clip of Homer saying and that's the time. We learned our lesson and
- 10:07we gave all the stuff to the hoboes, And I was like, what
- 10:11what good ending is this? And it's not even an ending where it's yeah,
- 10:16all the hoboes ended up with with stupid artways. If you're going to
- 10:20have some kind of moral lesson or some kind of moral realignment or balancing,
- 10:26make sure someone benefits in a you know, in a positive way, as
- 10:30opposed to we got stuff, we got useless stuff. Speaking of benefits,
- 10:43the following people, of course, starting with the lovely Lady, the incredible

- 11:52Readette, then don't worry. You have your name Readette on next week's show.
- 11:56All right, mister Davis, it is now time for favorite moments,
- 12:01My favorite What were your favorite moments from this episode? I had one or
- 12:05two. Was that the ending, the closing credits. It was when I
- 12:09turned it off and started watching something. Speaking of something else, we are
- 12:13also recording a review today of Futurama the bird Bot of Yes for Tales of
- 12:18the Future exclussly on our Patreon. But yes, what were your favorite moments?
- 12:22Favorite moments? I did have some, certainly I did like when the
- 12:24kids were sad and Homer tries to cover it up with bacon and eggs.
- 12:28That was actually a good movement. And then the bacon eggs started running and
- 12:31they all looked sad again, So a good visual gag. I just want
- 12:33to interject. This episode had a lot of montage. Did you feel that
- 12:37we had a montage, the zombie montage. We had the sad eyes bit
- 12:39with the sad eyes in that moment that you're talking about, which you call
- 12:43a montage. Dare I say the montage kind of of Homer going is it
- 12:46that? Is it the alarm yet? Or what's that sound? What's that
- 12:48sound? It's like there was three padding moments. There's a lot of padding,
- 12:54yeah, in this episode, which didn't was. I feel like you
- 12:56look at the store and you think this episode shouldn't need padding. I feel
- 12:58bad in dissing of sledging this episode because but it feels slap dash. It
- 13:03felt like we made this during the Simpsons movie. We've went at a time.
- 13:07Yeah, and there's a lot of jokes that aren't necessarily even jokes.
- 13:11There's a couple of moments where they explained the joke as well, and I
- 13:13was like, I got that joke. You didn't need to then explain it
- 13:16to me, or it feels like insert joke here. Yes, Having said
- 13:22that, I like the idea of nighttime kookiness. That's something I'm always down
- 13:26for. Lovely Luise, I want a sudden new segment. By the way,
- 13:30I've got an idea. I just want to say it in case I
- 13:31forget worst moment ever every episode going forward, we got to pick a worst
- 13:35moment ever for me, it was mister Burns moment. We picked the right
- 13:37time to do that. Yeah, not necessarily even with this episode, but
- 13:41maybe with this season. Actually we've seen some good things this day. There's
- 13:43nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. But mister
- 13:46Burns saying let's croon to that kite, I was like, what in God's
- 13:50name am I watching right now? Yeah? Patting, yeah, but piller
- 13:54but not funny. But not funny doesn't add anything to the story. It
- 13:58was just anyway that's my worst moment ever. I'm sure as we go through
- 14:03I will find one as well, and then I will interject with guys,
- 14:07worst moment ever? What else did I enjoy? Long time listeners to the
- 14:13podcast will know that one of my favorite visual gags either ever is when we're
- 14:18introduced to shoddy knockoff brands. I'm always been being Sawny Sawny and Sowny's back
- 14:24baby taken out of VCR with Sawny on it. I immediately thought of you
- 14:28when I saw it as well. It's amazing how certain things just get stuck
- 14:33in your head. Yea panaphonic or whatever it is. Yeah, but for
- 14:35mine is always Thawny. And also when they set up the domino rack or
- 14:39dominant principle of VHSS and Chud is the fan of chat. I don't mind
- 14:46Chud, I've never seen it. I do have the soundtrack on vinyl though,
- 14:48oh my goodness, really yeah yeah, someone will get it out in
- 14:52a minute, and cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers the cover of the vinyl. I'm
- 14:56just like this looks cool. This is one of those movies where we mentioned
- 15:01all the time in the video still we'd walk past you see cop and you're
- 15:03like one dawn. Yeah, so it's worth watching. It's fine, Okay,
- 15:07Yeah, it's not going to know what you're going to be going to
- 15:11be in an eighties horror. Is it low budget? It is low budget,
- 15:15but it's got one of the wet Bandits in it. Daniel Stern.
- 15:18Oh shit O, the voice of the Wonder is Yes, indeed in a
- 15:22very early role. Yes, it's not quite as gruesome and monstrous as you
- 15:26would you would hope throw bricks at him and said him, let your fine
- 15:30with the washing makin No. Homeland finally made good on the promise of Chud.
- 15:37But it's also just a great title, and it's been I guess repurpose
- 15:43these I do you hear a lot of people seem to it pops up a
- 15:46lot. It's like, yeah, this Chud. Yeah, but just the
- 15:48Chud movie you just see referencing and you're like, well, was it was
- 15:52it? They've said it is it a cold classic? Now I don't think
- 15:54it's a cold classic, but just the title, it's like with all the
- 15:58chirt the Chuds came after me. Yeah, it's just such a it's a
- 16:04terrible title. But also a great title. Yep, okay, what does
- 16:07CHUD stand for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground? Well that's it. Yeah, cool,
- 16:11I'm going to be checking it out. Those were my favorite moments, and
- 16:15on what were your favorite? I enjoyed these two moments because I find now
- 16:18the more and more I watch these episodes as an adult, as a parent
- 16:22should say the moments such as Marge saying when the mother makes a decision yes
- 16:26to stick by it can give sad face have it bag. I was like,
- 16:30this is me. No, you're not having it. I've said no,
- 16:34my god. Fine. Also, I really enjoyed the Bink one eighty
- 16:40two ah, very timely because they're currently in the country. They are now.
- 16:44I've got a friend of mine who's an obsessive Blink one a two fan.
- 16:47Right, Apparently it's one eighty two one eight two. Are I'm sure
- 16:48all the correct way of saying it. I thought it was blink one eighty
- 16:51two. I've always said one eight two, but apparently it's one eighty two.
- 16:53I've alway said blink one blink one eighty two. Alwyd I say whatever
- 16:56Australian say is apparently the wrong way to say it. That's what I've read
- 16:59on line anyway. He's just like, oh, yeah, they sound terrible
- 17:03live, but thankfully now they've they AI their voices when you're watching them live,
- 17:06so it sounds good. And I'm like, wait, thankfully He's like,
- 17:08yeah, because a least now when you go to their gigs they sound
- 17:11good. I'm like, hey on, hey, why don't you just stay
- 17:15home and listen to the record. Yeah. So apparently now they AI.
- 17:18There's really funny clips online where they forget to turn the AI think off and
- 17:22when they're trying to talk it sounds like all AI and stuff. So we're
- 17:23now at a point in society where we want I suppose it's the next that's
- 17:27the next step up. It's probably better than mimy, though, isn't it.
- 17:30So See, I wouldn't want to go to a gig and watch my
- 17:33favorite band mime. But if they can't sing live, but I guess,
- 17:38I mean, who are we to say they can't do it? I don't
- 17:41know, it just it just felt odd to me hearing someone want A fans
- 17:44say, I'm so glad they're now aiing their voice so they sound good when
- 17:47I watch them live. It's a really tough one. Yes, bands and
- 17:49musicians can't really make money selling music anymore. No, not really. If
- 17:53you're going to that's true, make money us and you have to go out
- 17:56and do it live. Sometimes it's just the thrill of just seeing them being
- 18:00in the same room, absolutely breathing the same oxygen. But just yeah,
- 18:04they a their voices now to make him sound better live, because they sound
- 18:07terrible life And isn't it isn't one of the things about Blink one eighty two
- 18:11that they're kind of not snotty punks. But they're not. Yeah, because
- 18:17that's aren't they They're all they're all the small things. Yeah, they have
- 18:21two rooms in Bain. No, she left me roses by the stead.
- 18:25At least they're im not subscribing to gender norms. I mean, at least
- 18:27she's giving him roses, which is nice. They're the one who do you
- 18:33sounds so old? Are they the one that because I'm not sure if my
- 18:38good buddy Raf still listens to the show. He does, but he and
- 18:41I bond because when we were told this story, Actually, yeah, when
- 18:45we were working in the warehouse at pop Culture, you'd have the you'd have
- 18:48the radio on and Blick one A two came o Adam song. Adam's song,
- 18:52which is undoubtely very heart better. I believe it's about a tribute to
- 18:56a friend who took his own life or something along those lines. But I
- 19:00was just like, I hate this fucking song. Man, it's so more
- 19:03than sury Mom. I spilled the jews rap thought this was hilarious, and
- 19:10we became buds. So whenever we see each other where we go for lunch,
- 19:15you spill the juice, sury Ma. Actually, when lou and I
- 19:21went to this concert last weekend, in between acts they had they had this
- 19:25DJ on, except he sounded like t Bone and Weasel in the morning.
- 19:29Yeah, all right, I hope you're enjoying here to look at fest of
- 19:30all. Rebecca go to like fit whipper name like t Bone and Weasels.
- 19:37I owe my friend Anthony. There's actually a movie called t Bone and Makl
- 19:41starring The Lake, Gregory Hines and Christopher Lloyd Doc Brown from Back in the
- 19:45Future. Weasel or t Bone, I think he might be. He seems
- 19:48like a weasel. I think he might be weasel. But I both thought
- 19:52this title was so ridiculous. Uh, and we just sort of used it
- 19:56as shorthand for yeah, just shittyre radio DJs T bone, it's not and
- 20:02Weasel much like Cooking Ladder nineteen ninety two. Two ex convicts roam the South,
- 20:08just trying to get by, but can't seem to win it whatever they
- 20:11try. What the fuck is this? It just sounds depressing. I expected
- 20:17a comedy between two radio DJs, two ex convicts just trying to get by
- 20:22in the sound, But doesn't it sound like I tried to cut it as
- 20:26a stand up comic or whatever. Nah, I'm doing the breakfast radio shift
- 20:32in some shitty small town airhorn. Yeah. But and this carble Lloyd was
- 20:40Weezel. By the way, William Weasel Weasler makes sense that Scans and Gregor
- 20:45Hindes is just straight up tea bone. But this guy was playing songs in
- 20:48between Spider Bait and the Chats and a Queens of the Stone Age, and
- 20:56he played never Yeah, I don't play I don't think you played that in
- 21:00song? Oh no, do they do? I guess this is grilling.
- 21:04That's damn it. Yeah, blink one they too, Yeah, it's it's
- 21:07god damn it. Yeah, I've got a bit of recording, got a
- 21:11bit of recording that and send it around. I guess this is grilling,
- 21:15which like the content we need. So anyway, this is what my friendships
- 21:22are based on. It is basically just making fun of Blink one Need too.
- 21:26I love that, my favorite bink one a youtubes day to that story
- 21:30which had not even really made a weasel. Whatever we got there in then
- 21:33we're gonna get him a full full circle and back to crooking land. And
- 21:37finally for me, next time Maggie does that in the pool, tell quietly,
- 21:40do not announce it because kids sometimes Ali be like Holly's Pilly and I'm
- 21:44like, don't tell the fucking room. I wanted to leave the ship in
- 21:48the corner. Next question, you there eating the Beast trivia, mister Davis,
- 21:55I'm gonna hit you with my first question, go run. What did
- 21:59Mo want from Burns? What was he hoping to get? Oh? Complete
- 22:03something on DVD? Damn it monsters? Oh yeah, damn it a song
- 22:10I Blink one Day too. By the way, my first question to you
- 22:15four sheep jump the fence in the ad? What is written on the very
- 22:19last sheep last one? Is is it like strange lump or something is strange
- 22:23lump. Yeah, what is it? Mortgage strange lump, secret family family,
- 22:26And what's the other one mortgage secret family. It's mortgage than something else
- 22:33that everybody worries about that secret family. That's strange lum car problems, that's
- 22:37speaking. Yes, yeah, guy's got a broken window. I've got a
- 22:41chip in my wings. Yeah. Yes. Sleepier causes what according to the
- 22:47commercial four nappy or whatever, it is unlike Sleippier, which causes this.
- 22:53Damn it. It's foot fattening and elbow stink. That was okay, gag.
- 23:00There are moments in this episode. There are moments that I cannot remember
- 23:03speaking which there's an exhibition at the Springfield Museum. M Do you remember what
- 23:10it is. They're carrying something in the ah, Yeah, because it's got
- 23:14a big green jewel, isn't it. Yeah? I know what is it?
- 23:17It was rare gems of Mesopotamia. That was what. That was actually
- 23:19one of the moments where they spelled it out for me. I thought you
- 23:22didn't need that. So Skinner's like, I'm going to look away, now,
- 23:23look away, and he sees him taking the jam. That's the joke.
- 23:26But then you have skinna go. Well, you're not making it easy
- 23:29for me. You don't need to say that. Like the joke is,
- 23:33oh, you turned away and they're doing it again. That's it. You
- 23:36don't need to have another joke there. Anyway. My final question, and
- 23:40we'll get into the review. What jacket did Marge get from wolf Castle?
- 23:44What movie I shoot your face? Yes? There we go? Did I
- 23:49have one more questions? Why not hit me one more than we have?
- 23:52You mentioned bink one two before or one A two? Can you name two
- 23:56of the other type of pacifier that Homer rings home h thumbstitute is one yes,
- 24:03and something of synth nip or something synth one nip. You also would
- 24:07have accepted Kitty cork and ACU teaked. Would you accept the receipt? Suck
- 24:15on the receipt? All right? So the original edit of Crook and Ladder
- 24:18was May sixth, two thousand and seven, production co jab F one three,
- 24:22written by Bill Odenkirk and directed by Lance Kramer. The chop or gag
- 24:27did get a chop boor gag in this one? Did? Was? I
- 24:30will not look up what teacher makes still relevant to these days, not even
- 24:33more so? Even more so. Yeah, and the cash gag the TV
- 24:37moves aside. It seems to putting through a car wash. Put through a
- 24:40car wash and get spray with water and hilarity ensues. The episode kicks off
- 24:45with Marge getting the new issue of Smothering Mother magazine and she learns in here
- 24:49that is her baby becoming a psackleholic because there are new links to pacify overuse
- 24:53and low achievement, I like the hogoes of the dummies in their mount then
- 25:00spells out no future with the building boss, because that's sort of one of
- 25:03her recurring gags is spelling things out. Usually there used to be that she
- 25:06would spell things out though and the universe wouldn't realize the viewers would see it.
- 25:10She takes the pacify from the very first episodes. Isn't you know we're
- 25:12but the genius. The thing she's actually spelling out is it eCos square maybe
- 25:18or something? So some mathematic tuation. Yeah, yeah, but she she
- 25:21takes the pacifierway I'm gonna say ummy, communist, so saying dummy, she
- 25:23takes the dummy away from Maggie. But Grandpa mentions here that you know,
- 25:27I've also given up all of the things that I love except for raisins.
- 25:30Now, raisins make his skin go loose? What was the joke there?
- 25:33Look, what do raisins do to you? Why did his skin droop when
- 25:36he was eating raisins? Did he turn into a raisin? Is that meant
- 25:38to be the joke? Because you're wrinkly? Because raisins are wrinkly? I
- 25:41can't maybe what the quote unquote joke was. Yeah, but Drew, growing
- 25:48up does mean giving up everything that makes you happy? Doesn't have to podcasting.
- 25:52Yes, Well, it's just like sometimes you know when you just you
- 25:56got things from your child, and it's just like, you're too old for
- 26:00that. And I'm went, why if it makes me happy? Why am
- 26:03I too old for it? I come back to that Taylor Swift quote of
- 26:07if something makes ubody happy? Why are you? Who are the judge?
- 26:10Quit ragon? Quit ragon wet blanket? But Marge throws out the dummy and
- 26:14he gets taken away by the garbage man. Maggie, I'm sorry, I
- 26:18mister pacifier, But when her mother makes a decision, she has to stick
- 26:22by it. Okay, okay, you can have it back goes to get
- 26:29when out of the drawer, but the draw is unfortunately empty, so Maggie
- 26:32is now ruining the house. And Lisa says, why do you take advice
- 26:36from a Larry Flint magazine? Your man, my man? Larry Yes,
- 26:41probably best known as a pornographer. Bartie took his porno straw and spun it
- 26:45into gold. Actually not really. I mean he put out a bunch of
- 26:48other publications, but he's probably best known as the guy behind Hustler. So
- 26:52is it kind of like Hugh Hafna making other mags as well? Is the
- 26:55equivalent? Pretty much? Okay? What's mastheads? Uh? Masts are,
- 27:02to the best of my understanding, they're the list of people involved in making
- 27:06the magazine. Ah, because she says quick reading mastheads. Yeah, but
- 27:11except the way I always viewed it was like the master that was like the
- 27:15title, that's weird, unless it's the because she's like, I can't,
- 27:21I won't. It's like, what is it? Because she read in the
- 27:23masthead that Larry Finn, Well, yeah, I'm gonna look this up.
- 27:27Because last head must the highest part of a ship's mast. That's not it
- 27:30the title of a newspaper on magazine at the head of the first or editorial
- 27:33page. So maybe it says it's the list at the top of the page
- 27:37that includes the name of editors, writers, and owners. Okay, so
- 27:41it's it's everyone involved with the making of it. So she's just paying attention
- 27:44to detail. Basically, Yeah, because I'm reading the fine print. I
- 27:47think a lot of people who read magazines would not necessarily well, yeah,
- 27:51it would not necessarily go oh my god. The copy editor on this was
- 27:56such and such ye home and then arrives with very other pacifiers slash dummies,
- 28:00Syntho nip Kitty cork was another one's thumps to to acutete bink one need too
- 28:04and the receipt you did have them in your note didn't look at No,
- 28:08I didn't look enough. No, cheat, cheat Maggie. She's now crying
- 28:15NonStop, and Santas Little Helps says the day by giving her a squeaky toy,
- 28:18and they're gonna get his heart member treated as opposed to see how it
- 28:21goes, which you know that isn't approach that many pet owners take. We'll
- 28:25just see how it goes, and it usually ends well. It's great,
- 28:29but unfortunately the prices that get charged it's hard sometimes to afford that shit everything
- 28:34costs these days, everything is very very pricing, and some people are taking
- 28:40advantage of that. I'm not going to say vets. I'm not going to
- 28:41say all vets. I'm gonna say supermarkets. I'm not gonna say petrol stations.
- 28:47I'm gonna say drug dealers. So the squeak, though, is unfortunately
- 28:52keeping Homer up at night. Not anybody else though, And he goes downstairs
- 28:56to watch TV for a while, sees the ad for Nappian. He need
- 29:00help from a drug that help us here, meet Nappian. Nappy and activates
- 29:12your brains napping centers and attacks. Your bodies are wakigens and unlike Sleepier,
- 29:17it won't cause foot fattening or elbow stink very much like at late night ad,
- 29:22isn't it? Oh? Do they still exist? Do they still make
- 29:26ads targeted for people being uplead at night? Because the thing is people coming
- 29:29coming from work now they're probably waking on Netflix and shit like they're not whacking
- 29:32on sweed air TV or they're probably just whacking it. Yeah, I'll do
- 29:34it at work, and so you're doing it right now. This is your
- 29:40job. It's very much a late twentieth century early twenty first century kind of
- 29:47thing when people still watch television show they say, watch hot Dogs at night,
- 29:51watch hot Dogs up late? Yeah, good show. Bora A Big
- 29:55Brother The latest incarnation just did not even go the whole full episode like four
- 30:00or that is canceling. Yes, the people are still in the house now.
- 30:03They haven't been told. It's like that. It's like that Japanese soldier
- 30:06who was still fighting World War Two? But is the show canceled and they
- 30:07didn't tell them. I don't. I'm gonna look this up because that would
- 30:11be fucking hilarious. Imagine anything they do. They're on TV. We can't
- 30:15tell them. We already paid them. They locked the doors leaving there.
- 30:21They're now part of the or whatever it is. Dream was it dream World?
- 30:23Is that what they used to film? It used to be a dream
- 30:26World? Big Big Brother Australia twenty twenty four because the ratings were terrible,
- 30:30right, oh yeah, absolutely, Oh it has been canceled And that was
- 30:33on the ninth of January. They can't still be in the house though they're
- 30:37not in the house eight weeks later. Where do you think they're going to
- 30:41come back? It's kind of like the fucking boys when they get locked in
- 30:44the room by Skinner get their free bikes, they send one over the fence
- 30:49to try and get to help them. Big Brother. The Australians would probably
- 30:52been canceled. We're not returned to our screens in twenty twenty four. That's
- 30:56it was last year. I thought it was this year, Big Brother and
- 31:00I was Gladiators this year, wasn't it? And that one. Well,
- 31:02a lot of stuff that we used to rely on is just not doing as
- 31:06well as it used to. What was called the House of Love this year
- 31:08apparently diverted from the show's original concept and focused more on love and romance between
- 31:12the contestants. Weren't they all like young people at the same age, And
- 31:15it's just like the whole purpose is to have a a broad scale of society.
- 31:21Yeah, I mean, if you're going to pull that shit of like
- 31:22it's a social experiment and at least try otherwise you're just doing love Islan in
- 31:27their house. There was a finale and only garnered one hundred and fifty two
- 31:30thousand viewers. Lets we have a month monthly downloads. That's crazy. We're
- 31:38more listeners than they have viewers. Okay, start putting that on the on
- 31:41the promo sheet that we're sending out to advertise four Big discap more popular than
- 31:45Big Brother. So they show you got canceled. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 31:52it was weren't a puppy this year. But Homer takes nappy and thinks it's
- 31:56not working. Then it's knocks him out and he wakes up and all the
- 32:00food has been eaten, I believe, out of the fridge, and someone
- 32:01has tied toy cars to the dog's feet and set up a domino of Homer's
- 32:07head with Matt grainings down the bottom. With all the VHS tapes. That's
- 32:09what we get the chat that you mentioned earlier. So this is nighttime cookiness.
- 32:14It is exactly Yeah. So he says it couldn't been me as was
- 32:16wearing my special domino setting up knee pads, which he is. And this
- 32:20is where Lisa mentions here ambient I mean nappy, and so that's their way
- 32:22of sort of saying this is what we're in case you didn't get it,
- 32:27it gives you dry mouth, mood swings and nighttime coocuness. Now this mood
- 32:30swings bit felt like Dan just improvising and then just animating. Animating to him.
- 32:35It was like, just say, mood swings in various ways, and
- 32:37Dan, we can you feel it? Can you feel? Thirty seconds?
- 32:39Forty seconds? This was absolute padding. Yeah, oh yeah, this was
- 32:43more padding than the Dominic's Domino pads. Yes, yes, exactly. But
- 32:47he wakes up the next day and he's with John Lennon in bed in the
- 32:51Rock and Roll Museum. Now they give the guard here the wise guy voice,
- 32:54but he doesn't look like the wise guys. So odd. It's like
- 32:59using the White Watch have the wise guy voice. Yeah, yeah, goes
- 33:04from job to job. Yeah, that's that's what he does. But then
- 33:07Rod and Todd rock up with Flanders and they asked why I did this,
- 33:12and they say it says you' confusing drugs with drugs and they run away scared.
- 33:15I didn't quite get that either, just because they're drugs, prescriptions drugs
- 33:19versus real drug I'm know that, but it's like they've un away scared.
- 33:22Now whatever, there's a look we'll like, you know, so far into
- 33:25the episode and we haven't got to the story yet. There's a lot of
- 33:28real swing and miss when it comes to the gags and this also, Yes,
- 33:31this story is taking forever to get going. Yes, it hasn't mentioned
- 33:36the five hunting yet. So then Homer tells the kids to lock him in
- 33:37the bedroom from the outside so we can't get out, but just suggest why
- 33:40it's just quit and he said, you can't. Now, this is an
- 33:43iconic moment, iconic quote that gets used all the time, and for some
- 33:46reason in my brain, it came from an earlier episode, like we'd already
- 33:50had it on. But it's not similar to the twenty dollars can buy many
- 33:53peanuts line of the oh, I have three kids and no money? Why
- 33:58can I have no kids in three money? That's really popular with like Simpson's
- 34:04means and shit like that. Now, so I've heard from you, Yeah,
- 34:07I don't think I've ever actually seen it, and really, yeah,
- 34:09in the wild you're telling me it is. It gets used a lot in
- 34:13memes of parents, like kids, Am I art? When You've got no
- 34:19money? Like why? People usually say why can I have no insert title
- 34:22and three money? Yeap. Homer is now a zombie in his room,
- 34:27bar gets the idea to take advantage of his fat suggestable zombie dad. Are
- 34:30they go and pick up Millhouse, He gives Millhouse a haircut, and then
- 34:34Milhouse a twenty twenty starle heck, yes he does, indeed, Yeah,
- 34:37what is it? Well? I look at those haircuts now and I was
- 34:39like, during COVID this was kind of a thing, but like, you've
- 34:43missed the mark. Now we're still doing Why are you still doing it?
- 34:45It's not funny anymore? Is it ever meant to be funny? I think
- 34:49it was just meant to be, you know, I'm more of an ivonic
- 34:52haircut. But now it's just ah, it's like, oh, you're actually
- 34:54doing this. Yeah, But then we get the zombie montage. I love
- 35:00the song that gets played during this, it's what is it then? Dirnt?
- 35:04Is it Frankenstein or Franken? Oh? Is it frank Zion by the
- 35:07Edgar Winter Group. Yeah that one. Yeah, don't Darn't d Dirt?
- 35:09Such a cool song. By the way, Millhouse's hair are all these events
- 35:14are meant to be taking lays over one night shoot. So his hair go
- 35:17back to an organ. His hair grows back pretty dark. Of course it
- 35:21does, because it was very important. We had that stupid haircut joke.
- 35:24It was yes, so yes, he's having the street fight with the four
- 35:30to twenty guy. Thursday, there is it? What's the drug days of
- 35:31four? Twenty four twenty is the time of day Thursday the twentieth, is
- 35:35what it says on this guy's chain. So he's become known as like the
- 35:39the go to meme for like when it's drug, when it's time to blaze
- 35:44it. Yeah, but he's wearing the But when did he first appear?
- 35:45So it's Thursday the twentieth, so be prepared to post this this Simpsons meme
- 35:49And that's just the picture of him, but it's from a different episodes twenty
- 35:52and five pranks. The rap he first appears I'm thinking of is that is
- 35:55that Thursday the twentieth or Thursday the since Thursday the twentieth, that's what he
- 36:00gold Check, the guy who was fighting in the street fight said the first
- 36:02chain, it was that guy. Yeah that's callback. Yes, I guess
- 36:07it's big, I guess. But what are something In the montage, we
- 36:12get them sliding down Homer on the hill, dressing him up as a woman,
- 36:15putting him into Mo's and Moe's closer for the night because he's obvious gonna
- 36:17have his way with Homer. Then they wake him up by smashing his head
- 36:21into walnuts, my car, millhouse nut meat, and he crashes into the
- 36:24fire station, spills some chili, and then the fire fighters all slip into
- 36:29the cage. Question, why would the fire dogs attack the firefighters? It's
- 36:34not like they're releasing them from prison? Like why why would the dogs want
- 36:37to attack them? Because they're covered in chili? But why? But why
- 36:39are they angry at that? It's like they it's like wolves. Yeah it
- 36:43was, Yeah, they poorly animated. It should be like almost so hungry
- 36:46and they lick it off. It's a stupid story. Look, why would
- 36:51they Why would the fire fighting dogs attack the firefighters regardless of the chilly basically
- 36:54because you know, firefighting dogs usually Dalmatians, the sweetest dog in these dominationis
- 37:00doesn't make any sense to deal with this episode, you just have the start
- 37:04of home saying, remember that time when I was a firefighter death bid?
- 37:12Then we get the new support and the town is now without a fire department.
- 37:15What do you think of this next moment? Sir? How does it
- 37:16feel knowing that no one is coming to save you? Well, not as
- 37:20bad as knowing that somewhere gays, you're marrying each other. That's the real
- 37:23emergency camp. Once again, crisis has brought out the best of us that
- 37:29came out of fucking nowhere. It really did. What on earth were they
- 37:32trying with? This? Just really ham fisted social commentary about Ask anyone about
- 37:37anything and they'll always just give you their worst opinion on something. You put
- 37:42a camera or you put a microphone or a camera on someone and instantly they're
- 37:45going to show the show you them truth zofilter, Yeah, show you their
- 37:51true self. Violence brings out the best of us. I was just like,
- 37:55that is so has nothing to the episode nothing, and we just don't
- 38:01have so many of these throughout the recent episode. Doesn't fit the vibe of
- 38:05the episode, doesn't fit the theme of the episode. I was just like,
- 38:07what on earth anyway? So a poo skinner and more than an agree
- 38:14most says me too. One two, well, I'm I'm not the first
- 38:17one. Yeah, was actually not a bad game. They then make them
- 38:21more officially firefighters. Quimby says the firefighters because they were the first four who
- 38:23turned up Lenny and Carl and Rock as well. I'm like, why can't
- 38:28we have an extra couple two extras might help in a fire, but no,
- 38:31they send him away, and millhos most says louds to civilians, we
- 38:35shot a burn them all on hell, they're their fire chief mode. Homer
- 38:37is now excited and he's waiting for the fire alarm to go off because he
- 38:40wants to know, save someone from a fire, who wants to put it
- 38:44out. Also, you may have noticed that Maggie has a new pacifier in
- 38:45this story, which I was, Okay, we didn't explain how or why?
- 38:50No, no, so what was the story? What was said?
- 38:55It all up at the very start, and then we just decided to ignore
- 38:58it. What was the that makes me angry? We're almost there, we're
- 39:02almost halfway through the episode that we haven't We just got to the fire,
- 39:06Yes, we just got to the fire works or the fire station. They
- 39:10eventually goes off after all these different home of moments in the shower and the
- 39:15opera and things like that, and what the hell is that? And he
- 39:17again, when I come back in to be a soggy, smoky hero,
- 39:21he says, Mmm, soggy smoky heroes Like that doesn't make any sense because
- 39:25normally it's He's assuming it's food of some kind. Well, there is the
- 39:30hero sandwich? Is there? Okay? I apologize that I didn't know that.
- 39:32What is the hero sandwich? Well, it's basically not the sandwich you
- 39:37had at the it's not it's all coming together. We didn't we didn't plan
- 39:42this or did we. But it's generally a big, thick sandwich. And
- 39:46that's the thing. Because sandwiches have different names in different American cities. It's
- 39:51called a grinder somewhere or a hogi. I do know hog yeah, but
- 39:54the hero sandwich. Let's have a Philly cheese steak. Philly cheese steak?
- 40:00Is that just called Philly cheesteak? The matter where you go though, it
- 40:02was the only outside of America we call it Philly cheese steak. That's what
- 40:06it's mostly known as. It could well be the case. What's the difference
- 40:07between the hero sub grinder and hogi? It all depends on where you live,
- 40:12says eater dot com, my new favorite site. Even happens in Australia.
- 40:16You go to Queens and you ask for a potato cake. They have
- 40:19no idea what you're talking about it. I'll say potatoes scollop. Yeah,
- 40:21it's like I don't want to scollop going back to Victoria screw. A suber
- 40:28is at least six inches long, that's what she said. And it's constructed
- 40:30with a combination of meat, cheese, fixings. Everybody loves fixings and dressing.
- 40:36Usually serve cold, so like subway, and you don't get your subway
- 40:39toasted. I haven't had subway in so long. I haven't had subway in
- 40:43so long either. I used to have every single day when I was at
- 40:45fours. It's just across the road. And it was the healthy option of
- 40:47KFC macas and all that. But is it is more healthy's necessarily? How
- 40:54It's like sushi. Everyone goes, Oh, sushi is healthy. It's healthy.
- 40:58Yeah, you know, there's rice in there. It will fill you
- 41:02right, very a lot of killo jewels in those sushi. Indeed, indeed,
- 41:07hero sandwich you will normally find in New York City, alright, Apparently.
- 41:10New York Times Herald Tribune columnist Clementine Paddleworth described in said in nineteen thirty
- 41:17six, it was a sandwich so large you had to be a hero to
- 41:20eat it. I'm glad I didn't understand the joke was there now? I
- 41:22know what a hero sandwich is. You had fun and you learned a little
- 41:25something too. Well, at least you learned a little something March. So
- 41:29I hope you come back. Just come back alive, Okay, don't tell
- 41:30me how to do my job. The first place they save is look,
- 41:32I hate it when that happened. I can see you're just state. I
- 41:36was like, March shows genuine Sinceeraiity and Home has just been a fucking jerk.
- 41:43Yeah, and not in a kind of That's also an issue of this
- 41:46episode. They don't until the very last bit with the poo getting like the
- 41:50thing falling on all of him, they don't emphasize how fucking dangerous being a
- 41:52firefighter is. Absolutely yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm not wrong in this
- 42:00episode, let's get throw it. She says, don't come back alive.
- 42:04Like I said, please come back alive. They save Luigi's. He offers
- 42:08them a bunch of free food as a result. Is first it's mentioned that
- 42:12their volunteer is not getting paid. Then they say wolf Castle another line here
- 42:16that gets explained, so he goes, you're the real deal as opposed to
- 42:20my movie The Real Deal, which was in fact not the real deal.
- 42:22You didn't need to say the last bit. I think this is where I
- 42:24wrote down a lot of not very good jokes or inverted Korma's jokes. But
- 42:31you could just ended it with as opposed to my movie The Real Deal.
- 42:34We get it. That's why you said as opposed to that's the joke there.
- 42:38Allow your listeners or readers or viewers to fill in the blanks and they
- 42:44will love you forever. Sometimes things need to be explained, but sometimes it's
- 42:47the best jokes are the ones where you go, ah, now I get
- 42:51it. What was the one before the real because he mentioned two movies?
- 42:53What was the one before the Real Deal? Oh? I can't remember because
- 42:57he said something like oh it's something which turned out out to be something,
- 43:00or my other movie the Real Deal. Let your brain make that other connections
- 43:04like oh oh, And it's almost like you came up with the gag yourself
- 43:08and we put you. Oh. I really love this show. It's like
- 43:12watching Frasier. I get these jokes. We're not telling you how to do
- 43:16your job sinceince HQ, but we are in fact telling you how to do
- 43:19your job. This just yeah, as we've said it earlier in this podcast,
- 43:22just just felt very much, we're doing a movie, guys, that's
- 43:24more important than this episode. Let's just slap something out of there. So
- 43:27yeah, more usually I would do these reviews, and I enjoyed the episodes
- 43:30more. I'm not hating this episode, but it's just it's pointing out,
- 43:37yeah, a lot more than usual. But yes, they've saved wolf Castle
- 43:40and it gives them the jackets and marches very excited to get her jacket,
- 43:44which is the I shoot your face. I just like the broken I shoot
- 43:47your face with the lever sleeves though, I mean I like the chi points
- 43:52to that because I remember I was about let themon jackets, right is what
- 43:57they call? Yes, Yeah, and I want David Letterman show Letterman jacket.
- 44:00That would be nice. I don't think. I don't think there are
- 44:05a piece of apparel that actually ages all that well. I think they've intended
- 44:10to sort of don't look cool. No, the Wors's Greatest jacket. But
- 44:16the Simpsons writers and animes or what not, the crew or were given Letterman
- 44:22jackets when the first episode aired. They were all in. They all went
- 44:24bowling to watch the first episode when it was on Fox for the first time,
- 44:28and these jackets are worth a lot of money now you can get Yeah,
- 44:30way back in the day there was well in Australia we have the TAB
- 44:36which is off track betting for for horse racing, and I think back in
- 44:42the late addies they tried to branch out into gaming as well, the Poky
- 44:46Poky escentually with a company called tab Corp and some real Well, my dad
- 44:52was a bit of a gambler. He liked to see that. Oh yeah,
- 44:55not his horse racing didn't he did. Indeed, for some reason,
- 44:59he ended up like a tab core letterman jacket. It was black or black
- 45:05with black leather sleeves. Back in eighty eight or eighty nine, I was
- 45:08like that pretty cool jacket, except it had tab Corp embroidered into over one
- 45:15breast with like a big tea and tab Corp. And I'm like, this
- 45:21jack is really good. If this jacket was just basic black, I'd be
- 45:22happy to straight around and I'd be like be the coolest boy in tan,
- 45:27except I'd be chilling tab Corp. And I was always looking, always like
- 45:30can I get a patch? And I put her out? But what sort
- 45:32of petri put it? What's what's that cigarette? Floaty? You had,
- 45:37oh, Peter Starvitz. Yeah, yeah, I've tried to find that since
- 45:40I fear it has lost the time and just my memory. But yeah,
- 45:46a letnmon jacket. Varsity jackets also, I don't mind a varsity jacket.
- 45:52I think they're probably the same thing. Yeah, I think they're similar.
- 45:53Yeah, but yeah, I've always wanted to wear one, but I just
- 45:58I know that I couldn't pull it off. I think a very few people
- 46:01could pull it off. I think it's maybe bif Tannan is the one person
- 46:05who can. You look at them and you're like, you're got to be
- 46:07a bully. I think you have to be very much a certain shape,
- 46:12either a big dude or a bully. Yeah, weather Oms. People just
- 46:20give you this stuff. It's the least they can do after we saved him
- 46:23from being MELTI faced weirdos. I don't date to do some sort of compensation.
- 46:29After all, we're volunteers, that's right. Pool people always because we're
- 46:31heroes. It's even on my business card. I printed him on the back
- 46:36of my old business cards. See it's different. Then they save mister Burns.
- 46:39This whole footing into the power lines bit, just whatever, let's croon
- 46:44I was written here. What the fuck is this? He thinks Smithers didn't
- 46:46make it, but he did, but he's gonna get pai for the week
- 46:49because he thought he was dead again. What's happening here anyway? Whatever gives
- 46:55them nothing? Oh how I hate you and closes the door. And that's
- 46:59the thing. Them stealing should have come from somebody who didn't deserve to have
- 47:05the stuff stolen from, so like it should have been. They rescued a
- 47:07lady and like, oh I liked that that thing as I was saving her
- 47:09cat. I might take that with me. As opposed to mister Burns treating
- 47:13them like shit. It's like, as a viewer, you're going, well,
- 47:15you're treating them like shit, so fuck him. I think it should.
- 47:19I stand by my earlier position, which is rich people short of fucked
- 47:23them over for all their hard efforts and all that kind of stuff. So
- 47:27yeah, it starts with, oh, we're stealing from the rich, it's
- 47:29fine, and in the end the actually that's the justification because it's not.
- 47:32It's not because we are volunteers should be. It's only from the rich.
- 47:37And then they run wild like you said they do. Yes, that's not
- 47:39what happens. That's not what happened. Most sees the amber. And when
- 47:43I first watched yourselfought was he know Bernie's house down I thought that myself I
- 47:45was in through his bedroom or something. But no, he blows into the
- 47:49room of priceless treasures, do not loots as on the door, and since
- 47:52the valuables are smoke damaged, they justify it and taking it and then save
- 47:57Costington's But they still a lot of the stuff because it always vaporized in the
- 48:01fire, including a high end stereo sized had shoes and some stuff that Homer
- 48:06wanted. And also the big sea on Costanton. Yeah, there's a toilet
- 48:08seat and the justifocation here from Costington himself, where you must be telling the
- 48:12truth to firefighters. I mean a firefighter could tell me anything, I would
- 48:15believe them. Oh yeah, you guys are actual real life heroes. As
- 48:20with a lot of episodes, there's a germ of a good idea about how
- 48:23you trust certain people, or you trust certain figures of authority to do right
- 48:28by you, and that puts them in a pretty prime position to take advantage
- 48:31of you. Yeah, but then we get this where obviously we're skinner starts
- 48:35to realize things aren't exactly how they should be. Here, we're not necessarily
- 48:38doing the right thing. I think every group needs a nerdy guy, don't
- 48:42they. That's the thing. I think any group like this and it's probably
- 48:45good that they only had the four yep. I mean it would have been
- 48:47good to have Leny Carlin there. But yeah, you need to have the
- 48:52ring leader. You need to have the person whose conscience gets are better on
- 48:54that, and you need to have someone in the middle who's like, you
- 48:57can see both sides. There's an event, but eventually goes to the good
- 49:00and that's got to be home. You think most of the ring leader,
- 49:01Oh yeahs the one who definitely feels aggrieved and feels fucked over and it's like,
- 49:07yeah, we're gonna take these rich snaps roll they get what's a pooh
- 49:09in this situation? Neutral along for the ride? Yeah, he's just there
- 49:15to have a good time. Cannot the pool just have a good time.
- 49:20Who do you think is the you know in heat, the guy with the
- 49:22long hair, the fucking wild card who's wine grow Yeah, that's smow,
- 49:25you reckon. I see most of the leader though, there isn't really a
- 49:30wing grow and this is there. No, but every good heist needs one
- 49:34of those guys. Like a highest movie, it needs a loose canon who
- 49:37just fucks everything up for everybody. It's like it'd be a fun role to
- 49:43play as well. I reckon, Oh, absolutely, have you. I
- 49:49don't like Dane Cook. I listened to his stuff now and cringe, right,
- 49:52but he does do a bit on Heat. Have you ever listened to
- 49:54that? Look up Dane Cook Heat. I listened to it about six months
- 49:59ago, and I'm like, it's still pretty funny, just talking about how
- 50:01he like Dank Cook says I want to be part of a heist, and
- 50:05just he runs through all the characters in Heat, and it's just it's very,
- 50:07very funny. I'm looking at Dane Cook Heat. No, that's coming
- 50:09up as twenty one year old wife? Oh is she twenty one? Something
- 50:14like she's maybe twenty two take a few years months. Uh. He's actually
- 50:22googling Dane Cook wife as we speak people just to get her actual age.
- 50:27But skinner, he is pointing out, I'm too sure about this. Things
- 50:29have crossed the lines. She's twenty four, she's twenty four. He's a
- 50:31happy one. The mooth threatens him, calls him whole pass and yeah,
- 50:35there's all it's not bad. They all know. I think even a pooh
- 50:37here, your next buy is going to be in hell and things like that.
- 50:40So basically that is they're threatening, they're bulliing. Is that one guys
- 50:44like, I know, she sure made these guys, and they bully him
- 50:45into going along with the right. And usually those poor guys get caught up
- 50:49in it as well and also get or they're the one that weasel on them
- 50:52when they all get arrested. Eventually, it varies from stories. They usually
- 50:55get fucked over there and they get beaten up in prison or never, and
- 50:59it never ends well. The soft guy in these groups, I don't think.
- 51:00No, they usually end up. Oh they were the best of us,
- 51:05and they were the first one to get killed in the heist. It
- 51:07usually makes our protagonists, maybe me, feel some small tinge of conscience.
- 51:12He looks the other way, but they're still still in the jump from the
- 51:15museum. Then the alarm goes off and Homer is on his way. He
- 51:16excited because much his birthday is coming up. I think what you would treasure
- 51:21most is a gift bought through honest effort, because the integrity, trust exploitation.
- 51:29They're Golden rule, rule model, serious crime, zero tolerance, the
- 51:36ten Commandment. Then they drive past the swimming pool, which is as we
- 51:39mentioned earlier. They're at the front of the family. Next time, don't
- 51:43we make it? Does that in the pool? Don't say anything or say
- 51:44it quietly, don't announce it. And they see how we drive past,
- 51:46and march says what every boy should see their father as a hero. And
- 51:50they arrive at the Sharper Markup. That's the place we talk about. Yeah,
- 51:52well, I think there was a chain of stores called the Sharper Image
- 51:58okay that sold on of crap but high end but marked it up. High
- 52:02end crap that marked up. It's like I don't really need stuff you'd find
- 52:07like an executive death like that perpetual wave thing that would go from side to
- 52:10side. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think a lot of stuff like
- 52:14that. Or eBay killed all of those places, right probably in that killed
- 52:17so many things. But they steal him stealing. They still they see him
- 52:21stealing and should say and pooh and moa bowing down king of thieves, We
- 52:24worship you. And he's stealing five Segways at once, and we cut to
- 52:30Marge yelling at him, confronting him in the kitchen, all the Segways driving
- 52:32around on the front lawn at the Simpson's house, and he says, we're
- 52:36not thieves, were scavengers. I was hoping for a jar Wars reference here,
- 52:38we didn't get it. Instead we got the beautiful Vulture, the heroic
- 52:42Taateworn't and America's Sweetheart the Maggot. But March says, kids, come in
- 52:45here and show your face the face that you had when you saw your father
- 52:49stealing, and hope it doesn't want to see it at all. Marches,
- 52:52well, you can make them stop by doing the right thing. Then we
- 52:53get another song in montage. As we said earlier, was sad Sad Eyes?
- 52:57Is that the song sad Eyes? I believe it? Yeap a couple
- 53:00of funny moment. The works station moment wasn't bad either with the dials yep.
- 53:04But then they're saving a building. I'm short building. It wasn't the
- 53:07end. They're saving some sort of fire or preventing a fire and home hotels
- 53:09Mo. They've perverted, yes, their duties as fireman May wants to make
- 53:14a change. But he sees the sold gold grandfather clock and you know it's
- 53:17been in his family for for forty seconds. He doesn't want to give it
- 53:21up. Then what about Naboo? Wait? Wait wait, wait wait,
- 53:23what about Naboo? Who is dead? I was Ian Coneta? Does this
- 53:30cut? Why you have just been up bood? Now this whole joke here,
- 53:38you've just been a pood very early two thousands of like punked and we're
- 53:43all about pranking people. I thought that year of the Internet was all about
- 53:46prank videos, wasn't it? Very much so? And then we took it
- 53:50too far. Now I feel like, do you see many prank videos anymore?
- 53:52You see sometimes you see like these two guys that do prank videos.
- 53:54I'm like, really, in twenty twenty four, we're still doing that.
- 53:58Yeah, you're just fucking annoying people. I think that's been replaced by stunts.
- 54:02And I don't mean like jack our stunts. I mean more like mister
- 54:06b style event stunts. Look, I try to avoid mister Beast friend at
- 54:12the pod, but doesn't he do things like we filled this swimming pool with
- 54:16a billion jelly babies. Experiments experiments social experiments it's like Mary at vers Side
- 54:22or Big Brother, your favorite showy eleven booth. He's still an da fance,
- 54:28absolutely, But maths is kind of like edging edging the lead. You
- 54:34know what, I really shits me and is it me? Besides that,
- 54:38the people that film themselves giving homeless people things, Yes, that was terrible
- 54:43fuck off. Any people come and saying, oh, of course you have
- 54:45to be negative because you have you look at the positive least his homeless guy's
- 54:49getting something. I'm like, he could have given it to me without feeling
- 54:51himself doing it. Oh, but you know, when people see this,
- 54:52it encourages them to go and do it. Like not fucking doesn't. It
- 54:54does not. It does not at all. If they wanted to do it,
- 54:58they would have already done it. Watch this and go, you know
- 55:00what, I'm going to give one hundred and fifty dollars to this homeless person
- 55:02for no reason besides the fact that I want to get engagement on my social
- 55:06media channels. Yeah, I mean, if you're gonna give one hundred and
- 55:07fifty dollars to someone, give it to your pals guying. And you know
- 55:10what happens. People watch this and they go and film themselves giving homeless people
- 55:15shit. That's all it does. That's all it does. Don't fuck off.
- 55:20There's one guy's like you went into McDonald's and bought like one hundred hamburgers
- 55:22and handed them all out saying, oh no, we just thought you'd wanted
- 55:24a hamburger, and people, I'm so thankful, thank you. Think I'm
- 55:27like, why do you film yourself? Who's this benefit? Who was getting
- 55:30who probably do to go to cheeseburger? Who was getting the most benefit out
- 55:34of this? And it ain't the guy getting the cheeseburger. It's the guy
- 55:36getting the thousands of likes and engagement. It's a result. It's also McDonald's.
- 55:40That's true as well. Yeah, don't tell me that McDonalds weren't part
- 55:44of that experiment. Now, I don't believe in nothing. I don't believe
- 55:46in nothing. Man. We're actually getting to the point where we can't believe
- 55:50anything we see on TV anymore very much. AI. I'm just like,
- 55:52have you seen like the Trump things and the like. They're just basically making
- 55:57fake press conferences now with people just like, really, oh shit, this
- 56:00looks real. I look at photos now and I'm like, oh, that's
- 56:04not real. Oh I thought that was real. It's scary. We're in
- 56:07for some tough sledding, folks. The next political campaign is going to be
- 56:12just you don't know what to believe expectable from discount to kind of pivot into
- 56:15conspiracy theories. We're going to be all Alixe Jones. But the problem is,
- 56:19though, is that even shit that is legit, you're gonna be questioning
- 56:22it. Oh yeah, that's the worst thing. Yeah, everything's going to
- 56:24be questioned now, which is scary times. But another about scary times,
- 56:28let's get into the end of this episode, which is arguably as scary.
- 56:31But they so he's been you've been a pood and the frame falls on him,
- 56:35so he sort of gets his come up and his home and then saves
- 56:37them both. My baby, my baby could do worse than growing up to
- 56:39a guy like you. And we get my main man there because why not?
- 56:45And home, and then it cuts on hombit of saying and that's kids
- 56:46that you know, that's the time we learned our lesson, and we sent
- 56:50the loop to skid Row and we get the bump of the future on his
- 56:52segway and I'm like, so you didn't I and this story. Did you
- 56:55you did not? You ended it? And yes, that was that?
- 57:00That was that. That was the end of Crook and Ladder. Crook and
- 57:04Ladder an episode that it was there. And I've read a lot of positive
- 57:07reviews online. If you enjoy it, more power to you. I thought
- 57:12this the first time I watched it. I seem to enjoy it more if
- 57:14it's one of those episodes that the more you review it and critique it,
- 57:16Yeah, the more you think about it, the yeah, they get this
- 57:20one's probably enjoyable. You just whack it on. But the more you think,
- 57:22like you said, it's just yeah, it's always enjoyable when you just
- 57:24whack it on, lots of lots of flaws. Do you wack on or
- 57:28whack off? Though I jacket? Do you whack on in order to wack
- 57:36off? What do you whack on in order to wa? That's good?
- 57:40I see where you're going with this. I refuse to answer the question.
- 57:45Take it fifth as the crate Kid number two? What do we learn?
- 57:50Would you learn for the episode? Mister Davis that one should not take parroting
- 57:52tips from a publication brought out by a man who also brought you barely Legal
- 57:58magazine. That is true. I learned that nuts had meat? Oh yeah,
- 58:04is that true? Is the nut meat? It is fun to say
- 58:08nut meat. It is fun to say it. But let's I'm going to
- 58:12a lot of googling this episode, because well, you know, it's better
- 58:15than talking nut meals nut meat, n meat meaning the part of the nut
- 58:21that is inside the shell and can be eaten. Wow, there you go,
- 58:23nut meat meats nuts of meat. I did not know that. From
- 58:28d forward, your names will be yeah, championship. The current leaderboard stands
- 58:31at this for season eighteen, we have the following in the first position,
- 58:37Philip J. Hawkin's on twenty three points in second position, Carl mull doon
- 58:40on seventeen, and Luke McKay in third on thirteen. Take it away,
- 58:45got a horse, racfolks. And you know, we've still got a few
- 58:49episodes left, so it's not a foregone conclusion, not at all. So
- 58:52let's see what happens with these points that I'm about to read out very very
- 58:58soon, Like now, okay, sorry, I'm doing all crooked ladder,
- 59:04not telling, not telling jokes. Run point one point Ron Perlman check him
- 59:12out on tuned in Yeah, Yeah, we love Bill Pom. We love
- 59:17Bill Pool. Are you right? Christ? But we do love Bill.
- 59:24We also love Ron Perlman. I'm sorry about that. One point goes to
- 59:35Pullman on your Mind, I don't have Oh that's terrible President and something again
- 59:44plays a good president in Innist he does indeed like Bill Pullman a lot while
- 59:50You're asleeping very sweet film. One point goes to the Towering in for don't
- 59:55we always go with the Doze? That is Josh Hell Yeah, well don't
- 59:59Josh, nice work Josh. Two points goes to Raiders of the Hot Spark.
- 1:00:04That's the man, Philip j He's chloring away. Now he's on twenty
- 1:00:07five points. Can someone catch up to one of these three points? Let's
- 1:00:13find out who gave us Smoky the Bandit. That is Luke McKay three points,
- 1:00:19so he's still in third position. But he's now on sixteen points,
- 1:00:22so he is still nine points behind Philip j. Look, it's still a
- 1:00:28race. It's not quite a fuegone conclusion, as I said, So let's
- 1:00:32see how we go here. By the way, Josh Hally that was his
- 1:00:35first appearance on the leaderboards. One Josh getting in there wild card entry.
- 1:00:39Alrighty, So the current leaderboard now stands at Philip J. Hawkins in first
- 1:00:44position on twenty five points, Kyle muldoon seventeen points and second, and Luke
- 1:00:47McKay sixteen points in third position. See how we go as we approach the
- 1:00:52end of the season. Bail is here. Al right, it is now
- 1:00:57time for the male bag. All right, first question, he comes from
- 1:01:00our man. You know, you know his name, We all love him.
- 1:01:02It's Andrew JP and he says, what were your favorite magazines when you
- 1:01:07were growing up? His were Film Ink, Rugby League Week, Inside Edge,
- 1:01:10and Nintendo Magazine System. I was big on Disney Adventures. That's the
- 1:01:15book I tried to steal. My mum caught me. Remember that. I
- 1:01:19remember that story out the TV guide TV Guys. Another one I enjoyed,
- 1:01:22The Lights of Kid I enjoyed. There was a magazine called How My Body
- 1:01:27Works. Do you know How My Body Works? That series? I do
- 1:01:29not. Oh. That was like a It was one of those ones we
- 1:01:31had to go that the news agency had to like be on like a not
- 1:01:37a list, a subscription service, but you know, you know, like
- 1:01:43the earliest form of subscription has to fill out a form and like send it
- 1:01:45away and that send you books and shit like that in snale mail. Yes,
- 1:01:47yeah, I used to get goosebumps that way. And then eventually Mom
- 1:01:51was like, you're still reading these and I was like, I'm getting goosebumps.
- 1:01:52You tell me the story. Yeah. I was like, I'm not
- 1:01:54necessarily reading these goosebumps, but I've got like twenty of them. Now do
- 1:01:58I want to have the whole set? I remember my mum stopped at like
- 1:02:00forty two and I was like sixty in the collection. It just bothered me
- 1:02:04my whole life. I'm just going to get these last few. But I
- 1:02:07just enjoy how my body works. Wrestling magazines. I used to love wrestling
- 1:02:10magazines. What about you? What were your go to I was very big
- 1:02:13on magazines. My sisters will tell you that from when I was a little
- 1:02:16little boy, like tiny, I was reading the TV Week, which was,
- 1:02:23like I said, TV Week straight and equivalent of the TV Guide.
- 1:02:27It was awesome, man. It was a great man. It's still out
- 1:02:30there, by the way. It was genuinely exciting planning what you're gonna watch
- 1:02:32for the week. Harley and out so ets On this Saturday. Oh you
- 1:02:36know, Oh my god, there's two things on the same channel, or
- 1:02:37two things on the same note at the same time. I'm gonna have to
- 1:02:40dust off the not even dust off the VCR. But it's like that's going
- 1:02:44to be working overtime. Yep, and buy a magazine for me. Yeah.
- 1:02:45My film The Jones was satisfied by two American magazines. This is in
- 1:02:52the late eighties and early nineties. One was called Premiere and one was called
- 1:02:54Movie Line. These were both fantastic. They always had really great articles movie
- 1:02:59what a name move One was really good movie and so they were fantastic.
- 1:03:07I was always looking for sort of cheat codes on how to become cooler,
- 1:03:10smoother, more elegant, more worldly or whatever. So I find myself reading
- 1:03:15Gentleman's Quarterly aka GQ, which sort of like a men's interest fashion magazine Esquire
- 1:03:21as well, which I am still a subscriber to. It's got really good
- 1:03:23journalism and also you know, a lots of ads for belts Country Road Official
- 1:03:29sponsors. Very much the case else. One of my favorite mags this is
- 1:03:35going way back to the nineties, but it was called Details and it was
- 1:03:38very much a generation X Style magazine. It was like a younger version of
- 1:03:42SA GQ or Esquire. Here's some cool flanners and here's this band coming the
- 1:03:46Seattle. It's kind of cool. They called Nirvana. So this will probably
- 1:03:51teach me I thing or two. I still have all these, by the
- 1:03:53way, I know there are a lot that I didn't throw out or give
- 1:03:55away. So there's at least of the six, maybe eight of those big
- 1:04:02plastic containers through my house that I just thought you were getting rid of all
- 1:04:05that magazine. Some I did, some I didn't, Okay, Yeah,
- 1:04:09but no, I'm keeping those. Yeah, that's what they will. They'll
- 1:04:14soak those in light of fluid and light them up. That's what they can
- 1:04:16cremate me with. I used to love in high school. Remember Zoom magazine,
- 1:04:24I do, just like those lad mags like HM. And it was
- 1:04:28like not poor magazines, but close enough where schools couldn't ban them because they
- 1:04:32weren't technically poor magazines, but they were close enough. Yeah, there was
- 1:04:35a really interesting not quite that. But again, in the early nineties,
- 1:04:42Australia brought out this thing called Black and White Magazine and I think only lasted
- 1:04:45maybe a dozen episodes. Or a dozen issues. It was very well put
- 1:04:48together, you know, great paper, very nice looking magazine. But what
- 1:04:53stood it apart was it was like, because this was a very progressive period,
- 1:04:56it's like, yeah, we're going to have these high Endustralian celebrities in
- 1:04:59various states of undress in kind of the artie nude for yeah photos, this
- 1:05:04is a reference and not a lot of people are going to get. I've
- 1:05:06forgotten what she was on, but there was an actress named Kim Wilson.
- 1:05:10Okay, she actually I think she went out with She wanted to be one
- 1:05:13of the last people to see Michael Hutchins before he died. Kim was I'm
- 1:05:15looking at it, I remember, yeah, yeah, and she was in
- 1:05:18I'm pretty sure she was in one of the issues and it was like came
- 1:05:21more from with her shirt on, but it's art. Black and White Magazine
- 1:05:28had a giggle with Black and White Magazine. It was black plus white,
- 1:05:31Black plus white. Okay, we've got Black and White Magazine, which is
- 1:05:34a bi monthly prit magazine for collectors of fine black and white photography. No,
- 1:05:38that's not it. Black plus white. Maybe aut Australia to it black
- 1:05:43Ye go petorically lead a photography, arts and popular culture magazine, publishing the
- 1:05:46show between nety two and two thousand and seven. So he had more than
- 1:05:48twelve issues. Oh okay, twelve years. It was launched ninety two and
- 1:05:54the final issue was eighty eight issues. So there you go. Okay,
- 1:05:57her shirt's off, but you're not seeing anything, so well, that's you've
- 1:06:00got to open the magazine. That's the front color. Oh okay. There
- 1:06:04was one more thing. I used to cut the Where's Wally books? They
- 1:06:08were really really popping when I was a kid. We're going from celebrity,
- 1:06:11not just to Wear's Wally and everything on the show. There was an animated
- 1:06:14show called The Animals of farthing Wood. I'm sure a lot of the nineties
- 1:06:16kids out there would would know what I'm talking about. And if you haven't,
- 1:06:19google it and it will unlock a core memory if you're gone, fuck,
- 1:06:23I remember this show. I can't believe I haven't thought of it for
- 1:06:25thirty years. But The Animals of farving Wood had a magazine as well.
- 1:06:28I used to collect a lot of collections when I was killed. I've always
- 1:06:30loved collecting, as you can tell. No, all right, we'll go
- 1:06:34to the next question, and it comes from our man Glenn Gomez. Have
- 1:06:38you ever volunteered to do a job? Hand job, John, There wasn't
- 1:06:44so much volunteering as like coerced. No, no, no, no.
- 1:06:46I don't know if I've actually volunteered to do anything like this, like volunteer
- 1:06:50firefighter or sassage one. I've done a few times. I know. I
- 1:06:55remember not long after we started working together, I was going down packing one
- 1:06:58day and getting my Saturday morning sausage and who should be behind the grille?
- 1:07:02But yeah, Dan or Nick? Do they still do that? I don't
- 1:07:05think they do. It's a shame in all honesty. I don't know if
- 1:07:09I've volunteered to do this kind of thing, but I have been. I
- 1:07:13am generally the kind of person who if I'm working at a place and like,
- 1:07:17oh, we could use extra hands to do this, I'll be like,
- 1:07:19oh, yeah, happen to help out. So I guess that's my
- 1:07:23thing. But didn't you help your brother in law or something, someone's brother
- 1:07:30or something who was like a real handy man, but he needed help with
- 1:07:32something like tech related and you were able to help him because you mentioned once
- 1:07:34how you're like, oh, he can fix anything, but he couldn't fix
- 1:07:38this problem, and you fixed it for him. I think that might have
- 1:07:40been right. That sounds like something I might have done for Rossi Rossi okay,
- 1:07:43Yes, the handiest man on two legs, Yes, okay, final
- 1:07:47question, It sounds like a circus freak on two legs, handsy Harrison McClure.
- 1:07:54Have you ever nicked something from a workplace? And what was it?
- 1:07:57I went forward closed. There were so many tools that I'm just gonna be
- 1:08:00left behind and but melted down. They were just like take whatever you want,
- 1:08:02and I'm like, I'm probably never gonna use this shit, but I'm
- 1:08:05gonna take this new hammer and these allan keys and all these tools, a
- 1:08:09whole box full of these tools from Ford and they all have like four gelonging
- 1:08:12grades. I'm like, that's a nice little that's an memory, yeah,
- 1:08:15memento. Yeah. Yeah. When I was working as a reporter in the
- 1:08:18newsroom of the Gelong Advertising, the main newspaper down here. This was back
- 1:08:24in the early two thousands when there was still money for newspapers and these like.
- 1:08:28We just had a really well stocked stationary cupboard and I would visit that
- 1:08:31shit on the regular, like, well, I could use another notepad.
- 1:08:34You ever fished the notepads you're using? Doesn't matter. I intend to take
- 1:08:39more notes in the future. By the way, free pens. I love
- 1:08:44having free pens. If there's a pen to be taken, I will be
- 1:08:45taking it. Oh yeah, I can never find one. I've had a
- 1:08:49million in this house. I can never find one. I will occasionally.
- 1:08:53My mum has a mechanic that she likes to take her car to to get
- 1:08:56serviced on the regular, and with the state of Mum's car, it's increasingly
- 1:09:00regular. Every time I go down, it's always like, oh, you
- 1:09:02all have to sign here. Oh yeah, and no worries I might keep
- 1:09:06this. Yeah, of course. I've got like six pens from this place
- 1:09:09and they're all they're good pens to so I'm like, yeah, don't trade
- 1:09:14in your car, mom. All right. That is our review of Crooked
- 1:09:18Ladder. Hope you guys enjoyed it. The next episode of season eighteen we
- 1:09:23shall be reviewing Stop on My Dog will Shoot? I remember this is the
