A true F1 hero, Denny Hulme dug deep in 1970, when his friend and mentor, Bruce McLaren, lost his life in a Goodwood testing accident. At the time, Denny was in the very early stages of recovery from extensive burns to his hands - mainly to his left hand and forearm but also to his right hand - after surviving a spectacular methanol fire at Indianapolis. Eschewing advice from the medics, Denny then returned to F1 at the French GP, determined to lead the McLaren team forwards despite the loss of Bruce.
