- 0:42So if you are looking for motivation, insight, and real
- 0:46stories of triumph over adversity, you're in the right.
- 0:49Place. Let's get.
- 0:50Started on this journey from pain to purpose.
- 0:53Let's give veterans a voice through military broadcast talk.
- 0:58Hey, welcome everybody. Today is Saturday, October 10th.
- 1:04Dear my Lord, twenty 26th. I am back in my home studio.
- 1:11Helps if I have the microphone over here, doesn't it?
- 1:15I'm back in my home studio. I've got Charlie waiting over
- 1:20here. He's he says Charlie says hi.
- 1:25Hi. Yeah, I, I gave him a name,
- 1:28Charlie. He, he was quite the player, had
- 1:31three girls that he was playing up there in the fields with.
- 1:37And I am going to have a first taste of Charlie, you know, loin
- 1:43part of the back strap. I'm going to that's what I'm
- 1:45going to grill tonight. That'll be my first try at
- 1:51Pronghorn. So we will see.
- 1:54We will see taking it on some good advice from one of my
- 2:00friends. It's soaking in some milk, so
- 2:03we'll see. I you know I've not ever fixed
- 2:06antelope before you know the lingo name is pronghorn goat.
- 2:14I don't know, it's, we will see. It's still part of the venison
- 2:19family of things. I, you know, it was kind of
- 2:23interesting For those of you who don't know, I went antelope
- 2:28hunting last week with a nonprofit that I fully support
- 2:33called Brave Souls United. And it was, you know, I don't
- 2:40know if I feel like I was a brave soul hunting.
- 2:43I think my bravery came before I even got to the hunting ground
- 2:49that, you know, I, I told you guys about this story, what
- 2:53happened on my adventure last week, and man, it was quite the
- 2:59adventure. You know, it's, it's a good
- 3:02thing to know when your military skills come into play and you
- 3:08just don't know how much you know, how much can you think
- 3:14about survival in unconditional terms, Right.
- 3:18So anyways, I, you know, I went on vacation.
- 3:23I do solo quite frequently. I go on solo vacations.
- 3:28Not that I don't have anybody to go with.
- 3:30It's just that this just happened to be a an intended
- 3:35solo adventure. So I drove through Denver, saw
- 3:40my brother and, you know, was detouring through northwestern
- 3:46Wyoming to go to Yellowstone before heading over northeast to
- 3:53Gillette, WY to go hunting with Brave Souls United.
- 3:56And I, I fell up at Grand Teton trying to go get the money shot
- 4:03and I slipped down the hill, bonked the back of my head,
- 4:07probably had a slight concussion.
- 4:09Yes, I was hard headed, pun intended.
- 4:14And and I didn't go seek medical attention.
- 4:18What were they going to tell me at Yellowstone?
- 4:20Because they probably didn't have an X-ray or CT machine, I
- 4:25didn't need to be medevac anywhere Here.
- 4:28Take two Tylenol, go rest. So I took an Excedrin migraine
- 4:35and gently walked around Yellowstone watching the
- 4:39geysers, taking appropriate breaks when needed, and then got
- 4:46back to my campground. And, you know, everything was
- 4:49doing OK until about 2:00-ish in the morning when I had to go to
- 4:54the bathroom, locked myself out of the truck.
- 4:57And, you know, yeah, that was that was an that was an ordeal.
- 5:02That's when you really have to start thinking about what was
- 5:07that cold weather training they taught us in the Army?
- 5:10What was that? Find resources to keep you warm.
- 5:16Fortunately, I did remember that I had a sleeping bag in my in
- 5:21the back of my truck. I had my suitcase with some
- 5:24extra clothes like some leggings and warm wool socks.
- 5:29So I quickly put those things on and, you know, was finally able
- 5:36to get a locksmith helping me out the following morning.
- 5:41Didn't charge me anything. Of course, that was, you know,
- 5:44after the snafu with a fake, a fake locksmith.
- 5:54Well, supposed to have been GMC emergency roadside services.
- 6:00I still need to call GMC and report this, you know, bogus
- 6:03number that tried frauding some money out of my son's credit
- 6:10card because I didn't have access to pay for anything.
- 6:14Everything was in the truck. Everything was in the truck.
- 6:18My watch that has a phone on it, phone number that was on the
- 6:23charger, keys were in the truck. Phone with the broken phone was
- 6:28in the truck. So yeah, it was, it was quite
- 6:32the ordeal, but I managed, I survived.
- 6:35I did stay relatively warm and you know, then went hunting and
- 6:43came home with a a nice little skull.
- 6:47Many thanks to Twisted Tines taxidermist.
- 6:54Shout out to Kyle up there in Galesville, Wisconsin.
- 7:00I really appreciate all the work that you did to help make this a
- 7:07memorable hunt, 'cause I tell you, it was not.
- 7:10It's a hunt that I will never forget.
- 7:12But the hunt itself was like easy.
- 7:16I, I and I get it. Not all hunts are going to be
- 7:19easy, but it really was, I'm not going to lie it I got really,
- 7:26really lucky on my first, you know, my first hunt had really
- 7:31good coaching from Pat on the rifle then not the day before.
- 7:37And that was, you know, I think it's kind of funny when so it
- 7:42was 2 Air Force guys. Scott, sorry, what am I saying?
- 7:47Scott, Steve is the, is the president of Brave Souls United.
- 7:53And then Pat is right there coaching on the, on the rifle.
- 7:58And I think that these two Air Force guys was like, yeah, what
- 8:01is this Army girl going to do? And I, I surprised him.
- 8:05Yeah, I, I brought, I brought the a game on the rifle guys,
- 8:10don't worry. So, yeah, I, I, I'm a good shot.
- 8:16What can I say? Army definitely was bringing.
- 8:21I was bringing my A game on shooting.
- 8:23So to my former drill sergeants out there, let's see.
- 8:29I think it was Drill Sergeant Farrell, Drill Sergeant Hawkins
- 8:32from Fort McClellan, AL. I don't know if you guys are
- 8:35still around or not, but thank you so much for teaching a girl
- 8:38how to shoot. Yeah.
- 8:40So anyhoo, anyhoo, we are falling into October, right?
- 8:47Can you believe we're already in October?
- 8:503/4 of the year is already through and, well, 3/4 plus now
- 8:58we're in the second, second Saturday of October.
- 9:01The State Fair of Texas is in full, you know, swing.
- 9:06I have not been to the State Fair and eons.
- 9:09I would love to go, but I really just don't want to spend the
- 9:12money to go. It's you know, I don't know you
- 9:17you see one State Fair, you see them all in a way.
- 9:21I don't know. I don't I don't know.
- 9:25I don't I'd kind of want to go, but then I don't like I said,
- 9:28it's too far over there. I don't want to, but I love the
- 9:32thought of what State Fair represents and memories and
- 9:36everything 'cause then it makes remember, hey, we used to go in
- 9:42school, we'd get the free ticket to go on, usually on Columbus
- 9:48Day. Monday was the, you know, it's
- 9:50the holiday. I'm off on Monday too.
- 9:53And next Saturday. Folks, I know I'm probably
- 9:57telling my age, but it's going to be my 40th high school
- 10:03reunion, so I'm going to give a shout out to all of my high
- 10:08school classmates from South Grand Prairie High School, Class
- 10:12of 86, the Mighty Warriors from South Grand Prairie High School.
- 10:16I will see you guys and gals next Saturday.
- 10:22And part of me was thinking earlier this week.
- 10:24No, not next Saturday. It's the 24th.
- 10:28What is the dress code? I don't know.
- 10:30What's the dress code? Next Saturday, actually, I'm
- 10:35celebrating my daughter's birthday.
- 10:38That happens this coming up week.
- 10:40So yeah, I've got to get the brisket for cooking out.
- 10:45Next Saturday. I'm going to smoke a brisket.
- 10:49Wish it was some good venison. Right?
- 10:51I, I don't have enough for cooking a, you know, smoking a
- 10:56big venison strap or something. But anywho, lots going on this
- 11:03month, isn't it? What's going on?
- 11:07I don't know. It's, it's interesting to see,
- 11:11you know, I kind of think back on my lessons learned on going
- 11:16on my trip. I probably packed too much stuff
- 11:21for sure, but then I'm pretty, I used almost everything, not
- 11:26quite everything, but I was prepared even if it rained when
- 11:31we were hunting itself. So I brought all the right stuff
- 11:36and you know, was able to handle those challenges.
- 11:45Thanks. I I'd say we got a new overlay
- 11:48popped on for the AI content. I don't know, Joel, if you want
- 11:53to pop the TikTok back on. I don't know if you did or not,
- 11:56but it it had, it didn't let me select the TikTok while ago.
- 12:02So any who I don't know, that's part of what you have to think
- 12:07about when you're going on these adventures is what to take.
- 12:13I had, you know, most of what I took was all of the same hiking
- 12:18stuff that I take and then and then some because I knew that I
- 12:23was gonna, I was gonna have the opportunity to actually cook and
- 12:28not just do my dehydrated meals. So I had a mix of both, both the
- 12:35dehydrated and, and prepared food and then I cook some of,
- 12:41you know, some of my own food at the campsite.
- 12:43So, you know, that's the hard part I guess when you are going
- 12:48on a long trip like that. I didn't take the RV.
- 12:53Next time when I go hunting, I will probably have the RV
- 12:57prepared for a longer, longer drive because the RV does go
- 13:03slower right when I'm pulling the trailer.
- 13:05I will be going slower. But you know, that'll be great
- 13:11to, you know, be able to enjoy maybe, I don't know, I'll see
- 13:17what next year brings. Maybe I'll find some other
- 13:19hunting places this year too. I'd like, I'd like that.
- 13:24I did enjoy the process. You know, I had a friend of mine
- 13:28says, you know, hunting's not always like, you know, super
- 13:33easy. And I was like, I get it.
- 13:34It's a lot like fishing. Sometimes you just got to sit
- 13:38there and wait because the animals are like, oh, Eva's up
- 13:41there on the hill. Let's just go ahead and make
- 13:43sure we show up and and present ourselves so, you know, she can
- 13:49do what she wants to do. No, it's like fishing you.
- 13:53Sometimes you just have to wait. It's it's what we learned in the
- 13:56military, right? Hurry up and wait.
- 13:58Hurry up and get to the spot where you're going to, you know,
- 14:02up in the blind or on the hill or whatever.
- 14:05Sometimes you just got to, you know, you got to get there and
- 14:08wait. But it as long as you're
- 14:10prepared, that's what matters. And, you know, having good
- 14:16eyesight, patience, scanning, you know, so there were a lot of
- 14:21the skills that I learned in the military, you know, scanning
- 14:28across the, you know, range out there, 'cause man, I don't know
- 14:33how they do it, but sometimes when you see, you can look
- 14:37across and not see any animals. And then Pat was like, hey, do
- 14:42you see the deer down there? I was like, what?
- 14:45Where, where 'cause I was looking through the binoculars
- 14:49where count 3 poles and I was like, oh snap, I didn't see the
- 14:54deer. Those deer, they don't always
- 14:57like just run and gallivant out there in front of you.
- 15:01They, they know how to just, you know, go slow enough that they
- 15:07blend in and they, they don't rush in and present themselves.
- 15:12So you just kind of have to wait and be patient.
- 15:16You know, when I, when I was I, I played the video for you guys
- 15:22last week, I had to get the breathing down and I just had to
- 15:28wait. I just had to wait.
- 15:31And part of me is like, you know, isn't that really a lot
- 15:35like life? Sometimes you just have to wait.
- 15:39Don't rush into hurrying up and pull the trigger to do
- 15:43something, because sometimes you really just need to wait for the
- 15:48right opportunity and then the right opportunity presents
- 15:53itself. And in this case, you, you know,
- 15:56you pull the trigger and there it is.
- 15:59I and I was, I don't, I don't think there's something weird
- 16:03about me, but I didn't get all freaked out about the blood.
- 16:09I'm going to say it. I, you know, I didn't get sick.
- 16:12I didn't, you know, I didn't get life is life right?
- 16:18It there is a circle of life to things.
- 16:22And thanks, thanks, Joel, for sharing out there for followers
- 16:26on TikTok and everything, you know, and maybe part of it is
- 16:31that I have, I have witnessed enough accidents on the highways
- 16:37that I, I don't get wrapped up into that emotional side of
- 16:43things because this is part of life.
- 16:46We are responding to events that are happening and this is
- 16:52nourishment for my body. I don't know about you, but I'm,
- 16:57I, I think a lot of some of my, my personal changes with
- 17:04products I use, food that I eat, I'm very cautious.
- 17:10I mean, even some of the crackers I have right here are
- 17:13organic. I like knowing where my meat
- 17:18came from. I like knowing that it was
- 17:22prepared in a healthy way. I like knowing that it ate
- 17:27organic food. I like knowing that, you know,
- 17:33it's not full of a bunch of additives and preservatives.
- 17:36It was eating the sage out there on the hills in Wyoming.
- 17:43I trust that, right? I trust that a lot more than
- 17:48whatever that substance is in a package that's sitting in
- 17:52between Styrofoam and plastic wrap at the grocery store,
- 17:57'cause I was at a grocery store a while ago, even looking at the
- 18:00organic grass fed beef and stuff, I was like, it just
- 18:06didn't look appetizing. It just didn't.
- 18:09And, you know, and I, I think back to the adage of what we
- 18:14learned way back when, when computers first came out, 'cause
- 18:18I was, I laughed, I chuckle on that 'cause I was having a
- 18:22conversation with my daughter about telephones and, you know,
- 18:31changes in telephones. And you know, anyways, the adage
- 18:34is garbage in garbage out. The old C dos remember you
- 18:39typing in DOS and you had commands that you had to type
- 18:43in. Well, garbage in on the commands
- 18:46is garbage out on the results, right?
- 18:49We're a lot like that too. We have to remember garbage in
- 18:53garbage out, right? And if we think that our
- 18:56personal body performance or brain performance is going to be
- 19:00any better, then part of it is that we have to make better
- 19:04choices and have the wherewithal like I did on that emergency
- 19:11situation. You know, we could go that I had
- 19:14the, I had the computing power in my brain as the temperature
- 19:18was dropping all night long. How to make sure I was going to
- 19:22be able to respond to my own emergency situation because the
- 19:27last thing I wanted to do was go knock on some RV door neighbor
- 19:33of mine that I didn't know and have them, you know, not be so
- 19:40kind to me. And even if they had invited me
- 19:44into the into their RVI don't know these people, I'm not going
- 19:50to trust that everything's going to be hunky Dory with strangers.
- 19:54Stranger danger still applies to a single woman who's traveling.
- 19:58So I did the I did what I knew was going to be the smartest
- 20:03thing that I could do. I've tried to play, you know,
- 20:06hindsight's 2020 thing. How could I have done something
- 20:09different other than not locking my keys in the truck or having a
- 20:15spare set? As my friend Steve reminded me,
- 20:19hey, you could have an extra Bob on the outside of your truck.
- 20:22But then, you know, I always get to that same thing.
- 20:24And somebody might think well. They you know what's preventing
- 20:29somebody from finding my spare fob and stealing my truck?
- 20:34You know, I, I don't want that to happen because then I'm
- 20:37partly at fault for putting the spare key, the spare fob where
- 20:44somebody else could find it. So I don't know, you know, is
- 20:48there an easy answer? If if I had had a working phone
- 20:52and had it in my hand, my GMC app could have opened my truck,
- 20:57but I had a broken phone, but the watch that could call and
- 21:06and my keys were inside the truck.
- 21:08So I don't know, you know, it was I I think I made the best
- 21:12out of a bad situation and love to tell about it.
- 21:17All we can do is just laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh.
- 21:20So, I don't know, in some ways the hunt kind of felt like it
- 21:24was anti climatic because I had already had such an eventful 24
- 21:30hours. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:33You know, you get it, you follow me.
- 21:35So I don't know, you know, all around it was military training
- 21:42the whole week and I am very thankful that I had the training
- 21:48to survive. So all I can do I guess maybe at
- 21:51this point is just kind of laugh at myself.
- 21:55It, it's funny, 'cause I was talking to this young lady where
- 21:59my daughter works and she's, she's a hunter and Carrie's
- 22:03standing there listening to the storm and she goes, what?
- 22:06I didn't know this happened. You didn't tell me this
- 22:08happened. Like I'm sorry I said, why do
- 22:12you think I told you guys my, my new work number?
- 22:16Because this crazy situation happened.
- 22:21So anyways, anyways, you know, I think it gets back to you know,
- 22:28there's the the F, I'm calling it the F factor, right?
- 22:33Faint fear fawn or freeze. Well, I didn't want to freeze,
- 22:38so freezing was not an option. Fawning was not an option.
- 22:44Fainting was not an option. There was some fear there, but I
- 22:52but it took that I had I had to fight.
- 22:56Maybe that's the that's the other app I had to I had to
- 22:59fight for my life. I had to fight to make sure that
- 23:03I wasn't going to succumb to my situation.
- 23:07And I think in many ways, if we're talking about pain to
- 23:11purpose and literally y'all can see in my logo both the logo in
- 23:18the middle of the top of the screen and my from pain to
- 23:21purpose. I mean, that's the peak that I
- 23:24was seeing right there all around me because I was at Grand
- 23:29Teton, right? I mean, literally, that's what
- 23:32the peaks look like Grand Teton. And you have to, you have to
- 23:37think about where you are in life and why.
- 23:41Why does this matter right now? I mean, today, October 10th is
- 23:47Mental Health Awareness Day. But we as veterans know that
- 23:52Mental Health Awareness Day is every day, right?
- 23:57Can we all agree on that? Every day?
- 24:01I'm going to type this in every day in a veteran's life is
- 24:11mental health awareness day. Yep, I just typed that in.
- 24:20I hope you all agree every day in a veteran's life is mental
- 24:25health awareness day. And that's because we do need to
- 24:30make sure that we member to fight for our lives, because
- 24:35painting and fawning and freezing should not be options
- 24:45because that is fear. If we're talking about pain to
- 24:49purpose. And you know, guys, I have built
- 24:54this show on and I, I was describing it to the, to the,
- 25:00the, the lady that helped me with her phone on my trip, you
- 25:06know, because I had to borrow her phone to try and call a
- 25:10locksmith. And my son, her husband is a
- 25:15veteran and I was telling them about my radio show.
- 25:20I built it on this mental Everybody can picture the wooden
- 25:26chair, right? The old wooden chair and the,
- 25:30you've got 4 strong legs. You've got an even platform of a
- 25:36chair that you were sitting on and it's rock solid, right?
- 25:43Each leg represents a type of pain, physical, mental,
- 25:47emotional and spiritual pain. I tell you, you know, when that
- 25:53event happened and I knew what the situation I was in with a
- 25:59locked, I kept the my first reaction was pray, pray, pray.
- 26:04Seriously, it was pray, pray, pray.
- 26:06Oh dear Lord, please help me open this door.
- 26:10Please help me stay warm. Please help me find some way to
- 26:15get, you know, get through the situation.
- 26:18My first turning to was not the end as spiritual.
- 26:24It was the beginning. I turned to God first, and
- 26:31that's where I think a lot of a lot of people, some people in
- 26:38society turn to God last. We got to turn to God first.
- 26:46When we turn to God first, he's going to help us find our way
- 26:51through the situation. Yeah, we're going to look like
- 26:54we're climbing this mountain, but he's going to help us get
- 26:59there, right? And it's far easier to climb the
- 27:03mountain than it is to go down the mountain.
- 27:07I I reposted a video I made a year ago when I was hiking in
- 27:14Pennsylvania. It's kind of ironic.
- 27:16I made this video about hiking downhill and the next day I
- 27:22tripped on a rock or route or something that I didn't see.
- 27:27I was even using my hiking poles and splat.
- 27:30Down I went and I broke my glasses.
- 27:34Y'all go look at last year's video after the show.
- 27:37I had a black eye and had had a little Raspberry above my
- 27:44eyebrow. I I didn't look look like I've
- 27:47been in a fight or something, but fighting with with the
- 27:50ground. But it was even ground, right?
- 27:53It was even ground. So I, I couldn't even fall
- 27:56uphill. I fell flat on the ground.
- 27:58So it's just life. Life happens.
- 28:01My point is, you know, we're always going to run into
- 28:06challenges in life, but we have to remember which F do you want
- 28:12to choose? Do you want to faint?
- 28:14Do you want to fun? Do you want to freeze or do you
- 28:18want to fight? Sometimes fighting is actually a
- 28:21good thing if you think about it in mental health awareness, day
- 28:28life, right? In that kind of perspective, we
- 28:32ought to, I don't mean fight like, oh, I might have fight.
- 28:36I mean that internal energy that we're feeling.
- 28:41We need to fight for us because you can't think that anybody
- 28:45else is going to fight for you unless you've got a really great
- 28:49people garden that is going to help you navigate things and
- 28:55challenges. And believe me, I had people
- 28:58show up during that event in in a great way.
- 29:06I was so very blessed because even the locksmith that actually
- 29:11showed up didn't charge me anything.
- 29:14And if that wasn't God working in my favor, I don't know what
- 29:17was because he knew that I I've been fighting for his people.
- 29:26I've been fighting for my friends in my people garden and
- 29:30I'm fighting for you and, and trying to make sure that our
- 29:36voices are being heard and it's important that we look out for
- 29:41each other. It's important that we do our
- 29:44check one videos. And you know, and I haven't even
- 29:46done a check one video in a hot minute, probably several months
- 29:51because I've I've been home, I've been feeling so much
- 29:56better. Maybe that was my own cry when I
- 29:59was doing my own check one videos.
- 30:02Hey, I was struggling. That commute was taking the life
- 30:06out of me. It was 3 hour one way commute
- 30:11and not getting much sleep at night.
- 30:14And just this, you know, the long, long days that wears on
- 30:21you. It really does, you know, But I
- 30:26had some really good people in my life then who helped make,
- 30:31you know, help me navigate through some things.
- 30:35I'm sorry. I'm looking at him like, what is
- 30:38this over here? I've got a new whiteboard over
- 30:39here. I've got to work through.
- 30:43No squirrel distraction. Does that make sense, guys?
- 30:47That mental health awareness is every day.
- 30:54You can't bank on somebody else solving your problems.
- 30:59You can't bank on you can't bank on other people to fill your
- 31:08cup, right? I mean, my cup was full.
- 31:13I mean, this is pretty full. I mean, I just filled it up
- 31:15before the show started. You have to work on filling your
- 31:20cup. Somebody else doesn't fill your
- 31:23cup. That takes fighting for
- 31:27yourself. That takes you making sure that
- 31:31you are getting fed. Hey, there's another F that you
- 31:34are getting fed the information that you need, that you are
- 31:38getting fed the support that you need.
- 31:41And if you were not getting it, and I talk about it in my book,
- 31:46Welcome to my people garden. I was trying to find.
- 31:49I know I brought in, I know I brought in the newer version.
- 31:56It's it's over there somewhere. You have to think about the
- 32:05environment of people that you're in because if you're in
- 32:09the wrong environments of people, they're going to feed
- 32:14you some poo poo. I'm going to put it that way.
- 32:21And they can sometimes, you know, lie to you that this is
- 32:27your people garden right there are not going to give you the
- 32:33information that you need. They are not going to have your
- 32:37best interest in mind because they are looking out for
- 32:40themselves numero Uno. And not that there is anything
- 32:44necessarily wrong with that, but they are not always going to
- 32:49look out for you and your best interest.
- 32:54The worst lies that we actually end up believing are not always
- 33:00the lies that other people tell us, but the lies that we tell
- 33:05ourselves. I could have very well in my
- 33:09situation out there freezing in the night saying, you know what?
- 33:14I'm just going to give up and, you know, be a victim.
- 33:21My, my plan. I had a Plan B, maybe C, that I
- 33:26could take the sleeping bag and I could go sit in the in the
- 33:32bathroom, you know, the campground bathroom.
- 33:35It was made of cinder blocks. Certainly it would have been
- 33:39sturdy, you know, but it it didn't have warmth.
- 33:44I knew that in the truck I had in the truck where in my
- 33:49situation where I was at in the back of my truck in the bed, I
- 33:53had a heater. Thank you Jason, shout out to my
- 33:56brother for saying hey, go get one of those little buddy
- 34:00heaters. That little buddy heaters
- 34:02probably would save me along with having a sleeping bag and
- 34:06all of the other gear that I had in there.
- 34:07Because guess what? I had prepared right?
- 34:11Even though I oopsed and locked the key in the truck, I had been
- 34:16prepared enough for survival. And I think we still have to
- 34:22think about that in any facet of our lives.
- 34:25You know, we have a storm that hit ground.
- 34:30Is it last last night? I don't know.
- 34:32I haven't watched much news lately other than knowing I
- 34:35think there was a you know, there was a name storm brewing
- 34:38in the in the Gulf of America that was hitting land.
- 34:42But I think I saw a brief picture on Facebook earlier
- 34:47today that, you know, there was a lot of flooding.
- 34:49I haven't been watching very much news.
- 34:52I just know it's sunshine here. I took, you know, I've been away
- 34:57from the house for a while and it was too hot this summer to
- 35:01take care of some lawn work here.
- 35:05And that's what I've been doing all day yesterday, today and
- 35:10took a dumped, you know, took a run to the dump this morning.
- 35:13But you have to take care of yourself, right?
- 35:15We have to, we have to fight for ourselves and being prepared is
- 35:24part of that game. Going back to the chair, we have
- 35:29the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual pain.
- 35:33And I told you the first thing I did in reaction to my situation
- 35:39was I was praying to God. How many of you pray to God?
- 35:45And, and that's a personal, you know, that's a personal
- 35:50response. You don't have to respond to me.
- 35:53But do you do it? Do you pray first or are you
- 35:56praying last? It's it's just something for you
- 36:03to consider, something for you to ponder.
- 36:06Are you praying to God first or are you praying to him last?
- 36:12Because if you're looking at fighting for you, if you're
- 36:16fighting for your family, then maybe we got to start by praying
- 36:21to him first to help see you through.
- 36:25That's the whole purpose of why I'm even, you know why I use the
- 36:29hiking metaphor in life because we are all going somewhere or
- 36:35we're kind of stagnating, going nowhere, right?
- 36:38But as long as we're putting 1 foot in front of the other, we
- 36:42are going somewhere in life. And as long as, you know, you're
- 36:46going somewhere in life, then maybe, just maybe going to God
- 36:54first about where he wants us to go, what he wants us to do, who
- 36:58he wants us to see is the first choice we ought to do before
- 37:06we're actually doing the do it. Does that make sense?
- 37:12Because if you're thinking about the mental health of thing going
- 37:14back to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, we had
- 37:19to kind of start putting the spiritual 1st to get the mental
- 37:24and the emotional. And you know, physical is just
- 37:28going to be the physical no matter what, right?
- 37:31Because we're always going to trip and fall.
- 37:33There are physical things that are going to happen.
- 37:36We are veterans. We have gone through a lot
- 37:39physically and emotionally and spiritually.
- 37:42But maybe we got to start putting things in the right
- 37:45order to start leveling ourselves out and learning how
- 37:50to fight for us because God's willing to go to the fight for
- 37:54us. He gave us his only begotten
- 37:57Son, Jesus Christ. I'm just saying he's he's helped
- 38:03put somebody in the ring for us. But part of it says ends up
- 38:08being the choice and and leaning into him to fight for us.
- 38:18Yes, we do have to fight for ourselves.
- 38:21And that's the whole point of into the weeds, she says.
- 38:26Amen. Thank you, Amber.
- 38:28You know, we have to fight for ourselves.
- 38:33God's God's already there fighting for us to turn to him
- 38:37first. And then you'll see, maybe, you
- 38:40know, you, you get lucky like I did and the locksmith opens your
- 38:45truck for free. I, I just feel so very, very
- 38:49blessed. And and then made it to
- 38:54Gillette. So I need a drink.
- 39:01Made it to Gillette. I, I was telling Carrie, I said,
- 39:06you know, I probably was a bit hypothermic that day, 'cause I
- 39:11had the heater in the truck blasting at 78 until about 2:00
- 39:16PM and then I finally started getting warm. 70 It's pretty hot
- 39:23in a, you know, pretty toasty inside the truck.
- 39:26But I, you know, it took a while for my whole core to get warmed
- 39:30up. But after that everything was
- 39:35pretty, pretty easy breezy. But God put some very important
- 39:40people in my life. 22 veterans responded right, 2 veterans are
- 39:47right there at that event when I locked, got locked out who were
- 39:52able to help me navigate. And that's, you know, that's
- 39:57pretty important, I think to acknowledge that we do take care
- 40:04of each other. We do.
- 40:09I mean, that's, that's what our people garden.
- 40:11That's what my people garden's about.
- 40:13I feel very called to make sure that I host this radio show.
- 40:18I mean, it's not like I don't have other things I could do.
- 40:22But there are people who I know we're struggling mental health
- 40:28everyday and you know, we have to be there to support each
- 40:34other. It's important.
- 40:39Shows like this are important. Military broadcast radio.
- 40:44This is an important thing because this is an outreach,
- 40:52right? This is it's a free outreach,
- 40:55doesn't cost anything for you to subscribe, but it but it does.
- 41:03You know, I volunteer doing this.
- 41:06All of the other hosts are volunteering doing this.
- 41:10We need more sponsors. We need your support because
- 41:14yes, we are our voices being used.
- 41:20But I, I think from what I know and all of the other content
- 41:26creators with military broadcast radio, they do this willingly.
- 41:31They do this without any expectation that they're getting
- 41:36something in return. So, you know, if you have a
- 41:40moment, you have a dollar, $5, whatever it is, you know, reach
- 41:46out and support military broadcast radio.
- 41:52I even talked about it on the on my trip.
- 41:57I know that Steve is probably going to come back.
- 42:00He's going to come on the show. It's hunting season, so I have
- 42:05to wait until hunting season's over before I can get him on.
- 42:09He's, you know, he and Patrick are helping get more veterans
- 42:13out there, you know, out there in field therapy.
- 42:20It is a type of field therapy, right?
- 42:23I mean, you kind of the irony here is an Army girl is that
- 42:28everybody was like, who wants to go to the field?
- 42:31And, and now we turn it into, oh, let's go to the field, let's
- 42:34go hunt. It's kids.
- 42:38I don't know, you know, like I, for me, this was a natural
- 42:43evolution of I had all my, you know, shooting skills, have the
- 42:51hiking skills, have the camping skills, and now this was the
- 42:57natural evolution of going hunting.
- 43:01And I actually, I liked it. You know, I wasn't grossed out
- 43:04by it. I, you know, like I said,
- 43:07there's, I think part of it also like I mentioned, I think I
- 43:13mentioned this last week, I said, you know, there's, there's
- 43:17this thing that recognizes that there is a, there is a certain
- 43:23amount of population control with animals too.
- 43:27Because two years ago I had two deer run out on the highway and
- 43:34hit my truck when I was driving back from Virginia back here to
- 43:38Texas. One I 1 deer I know did not make
- 43:42it. The other deer had hit the right
- 43:45front passenger door of my truck.
- 43:47And I don't know where it went, but you know, there and, and
- 43:52they were, they were not small. There is a balance of life here,
- 44:01the right there. Too many deer would hit, too
- 44:07many cars could kill people. You have to think about there is
- 44:11a balance in things. I know this sounds like a
- 44:15difficult conversation on the, you know, discussing that, but I
- 44:21don't think we can ignore it either.
- 44:26But I am also going to kind of touch on a on another touchy
- 44:31subject and that that is what is going to be happening at Fort
- 44:37Hood, you know, come December with a certain convicted, you
- 44:44know, individual, I think his name is he was Major Hassan.
- 44:50He's been serving some time waiting his sentence.
- 44:53And, you know, I, I see some back and forth on should it be
- 45:01aired? Shouldn't it be aired?
- 45:04I'm not, you know, I, it's not for me to pass judgement on
- 45:10whether it should or shouldn't. I don't know.
- 45:15I think there's that there's that hard part about where was
- 45:22where was his conviction to think about the lives of the of
- 45:26the ones that he took? Where is the disincentive for
- 45:33people to not do those things? I don't know that there's any
- 45:39one right answer other than kind of going back into my faith and
- 45:45saying, you know, God's going to take care of of these people one
- 45:50way or another. The ones who are the poor
- 45:55misbehaviors, right? The ones the bad actors, that's,
- 45:59you know, the bad actors. It's tough.
- 46:04It is tough. What is the right answer?
- 46:08It's not for me to decide, but God's going to handle any of
- 46:13these people who are, you know, who do these things.
- 46:17God's going to handle them. I mean, I, I know there are
- 46:19people who do other people wrong all the time.
- 46:22And it's not even a matter of that they physically took their
- 46:26life, but then they, you know, tried to bankrupt somebody
- 46:31mentally, spiritually, emotionally, which had a
- 46:36physical effect as well there. God's got a special place for
- 46:40them too. It doesn't have to be me that
- 46:45handles it, but to pray for the people who are making those
- 46:49decisions, I think is, you know, where it comes down to and God,
- 46:55you know, ultimately is the one who's going to take care of,
- 47:00take care of these people in the judgment seat.
- 47:02It's not for me to decide. I don't know, you know, I'd, I,
- 47:08I don't know, I don't know if I will watch it or not.
- 47:15I think there's a certain curiosity about watching it.
- 47:18But then I think, you know, this was part of something that has
- 47:22happened. You know, the public, public
- 47:30executions have been part of history for the longest and only
- 47:36in the 20th and 21st century have we not really been doing
- 47:40public execution because, you know, courts, people decided
- 47:50that it wasn't right. But but does the effect of it, I
- 47:56think it gets back to something that is a moral, moral decision
- 48:02is something that Darrell and I talked about on the Revivalist
- 48:06radio show. You know, there's the moral
- 48:09injury side and moral healing and recovery.
- 48:13Does having a public execution fall into moral injury or does
- 48:18it help more into the moral healing and recovery side?
- 48:22And I think that ends up being a personal choice for each one of
- 48:26us, whether watching it is going to give you some healing and
- 48:31recovery or does watching it 'cause you some moral injury.
- 48:36Because if it's going to cause you some moral injury, this is a
- 48:39personal choice and I'm a veteran and I'm trying to let my
- 48:46voice be heard. If you are contemplating whether
- 48:52you want to watch it or not, then I think that that question
- 48:57really ends up being, is there going to be moral injury if you
- 49:03watch it or are you going to get some healing and recovery out of
- 49:07it? It I think it depends upon how
- 49:12impacted you are on what the original event was and whether
- 49:18watching, watching the execution is going to help or harm you.
- 49:26Only you know that. And I say that because my
- 49:32recommendation to you is to take it to God.
- 49:38Notice how I'm going back full circle that if you're not
- 49:43putting God in the 1st place and praying to Him about what your
- 49:49situation is, then you're already working at a
- 49:52disadvantage because are you going to watch it and be morally
- 49:59harmed and then you're going to go to God or not go to God at
- 50:03all? I, I'm trying to help you
- 50:07reframe because this is where we've kind of gotten out of
- 50:11practice as a society that God, God's an option, right?
- 50:19We think God's an option to go with us on our hike versus
- 50:23putting God in the pocket to begin with.
- 50:27Because if he's right here with us all the time, he's going to
- 50:31take care of us all the time, but not when he's an
- 50:37afterthought. I'm just trying to help you
- 50:42think through that as you prepare to decide whether you're
- 50:47going to watch the execution or not.
- 50:53Go to God first, because that's not something that I can decide
- 50:58for you or your husband or your wife or your kids or your
- 51:01parents or whatever. Your fellow veteran brother,
- 51:06sister, go to God first and if it's not right for you and you
- 51:14think it's going to cause you some harm, then my
- 51:16recommendation is don't watch it.
- 51:23Go to God first if you think it's going to help you.
- 51:31I'd still recommend that you go to God first because he's going
- 51:35to help you work through the understanding on whether it's
- 51:42going to help you with the moral healing and recovery.
- 51:45Because one of the things that Darrell and I always talk about
- 51:49on the Revivalist radio show, really our, our mission is when
- 51:56we put God as the true north of our moral compass, then we're
- 52:00headed down the right path. But if you're not sinking in
- 52:06your thought processes to keep him as your true north, then you
- 52:12might get a little lost. And we don't want you to get
- 52:16lost. He doesn't want you to get lost.
- 52:18We want you to be found. We want you to be on the right
- 52:21path and knowing where you're going and not have more harm to
- 52:26you. Does that make sense?
- 52:29I mean, I hope it does. But if it doesn't go to God, if
- 52:34it doesn't, feel free to message me.
- 52:36I'll be happy to, you know, have a conversation with you.
- 52:42That's how my people garden grows.
- 52:44I meet all kinds of people in amazing places, in amazing
- 52:48situations. And yeah, God always takes care
- 52:53of me. He always takes care of me.
- 52:58Yeah. So any who trying to think what
- 53:05else we've covered some big FS, some big FS, right?
- 53:16I didn't, I didn't really go into the faint and the fawn, but
- 53:19I think you get those. The biggest one I think we don't
- 53:24talk about enough, like I said, is fighting for ourselves and
- 53:28it's military. I'm sorry, it is, it is mental
- 53:34health day, right? But it's mental health day every
- 53:38day. To me, part of your mental
- 53:42health is your spiritual health. If you you know, your chair is
- 53:48getting a little rocky and you're not sitting on even keel,
- 53:54might have to pay attention to figuring out which leg has been
- 53:57a little wonky and work on that physically.
- 54:03When I went out there on my on the hike, even though I had the
- 54:08bump on my head, walking around, you know, the, the Yellowstone
- 54:15was pretty easy. I didn't go on any trails that
- 54:17was. But I want to go back.
- 54:20Yeah, I want to go back. It was beautiful, absolutely
- 54:23gorgeous up there. Saw lots of other neat places
- 54:28driving through and I my my cousin Beth we have we have
- 54:38pegged down what our next adventure is going to be.
- 54:43Gone on one vacation with her before we went to Hawaii several
- 54:47years ago after my mom passed away.
- 54:50And we did lots of hiking in Hawaii, in Oahu.
- 54:55Yeah, pretty easy trails there, But we're looking at something a
- 54:59little bit tougher. I'm have to do some training.
- 55:03Definitely going to have to do some training.
- 55:05We're we're going to plan. We're planning on going to
- 55:08Yosemite. Captain.
- 55:10I don't know. Hopefully that's not more than I
- 55:12can chew. Yeah, I'm definitely going to
- 55:16have to put on a training plan for that one, get back in the
- 55:20gym. You know, I'm doing stuff here
- 55:23at the house and haven't been going to the gym much.
- 55:27But you know, I was out there driving the lawn mower in the
- 55:30tractor and lifting bags and doing all kinds of stuff, power
- 55:36washing yesterday. You know, it's kind of, it's
- 55:40'cause I love my patio. It's an outdoor living space.
- 55:44Maybe I have to host a show from out there one day and I'll do
- 55:49that when Daryl comes over and just host the host a patio show.
- 55:54It's gorgeous outside and you know, it's fresh air.
- 55:59Nice. It's big, nice space.
- 56:01Love it. So anyways, I I say that because
- 56:08it's got the greatest sunsets ever.
- 56:10I love my sunset view. It's not the Mountain View that
- 56:15I'm seeing on my screen, but it's but it is pretty.
- 56:20I mean, it's, it's here, it's my home, but it's, but it feels so
- 56:25nice to get things cleaned up because when it's summer and
- 56:29it's so hot out there, I, you know, you just don't want to
- 56:32hang out outside because it's Texas, It's 100° almost every
- 56:36day. Finally it's dropping to the
- 56:3880s, you know, 80s. That's doable.
- 56:42That's doable on the patio for sure.
- 56:47And so I don't, I think I have a couple of minutes left.
- 56:50I, I don't have a guest scheduled next Saturday.
- 56:54Hopefully I'll get somebody scheduled that.
- 56:57I was going to have a guy on today and he had an emergency.
- 57:02So hopefully I will be able to get him scheduled on next
- 57:06Saturday. Hopefully.
- 57:07If I do, I want to make sure I give you guys his name.
- 57:11So I'm trying to go to my messages.
- 57:13Where'd the messages go? His name is Justin Lawrence
- 57:17Brown Stevens, and our goal is to have an academic informed
- 57:24discussion. He's been.
- 57:26So I pretty sure. Where did he go?
- 57:31Pretty sure that he is. He's gonna go.
- 57:35Yeah. I told you guys.
- 57:36I find I find people over the place.
- 57:39So he's on LinkedIn, he's the founder and CEO staring down the
- 57:44muzzle. It's a nonprofit.
- 57:46He's a researcher, and we were going to talk about trauma,
- 57:52technology and recovery. He's a wealth of information,
- 57:56very motivated about what his mission in life is.
- 58:01And you know, so hopefully I can get him rescheduled for next
- 58:04Saturday, but he had a scheduling conflict today.
- 58:08So, you know, things in life happens, they happen.
- 58:12And we don't need to add to each other's, you know, situations.
- 58:17I mean, it's like I said, it's it's mental health awareness day
- 58:21everyday. So we don't need to give each
- 58:23other, you know, extra issues. So I don't have anything else
- 58:28for today. I hope you all have a great
- 58:31week. Thank you for joining Military
