- 0:06Speaker 1: It's often said that people of Utah speak a language
- 0:10Speaker 1: all their own. It's a language that's often confusing and
- 0:13Speaker 1: even incomprehensible to newcomers here in the Beehive State. So
- 0:17Speaker 1: Radio from Hell presents a handy guide to help everyone
- 0:21Speaker 1: understand how the natives speak. It's the Utah word of
- 0:24Speaker 1: the day, and today's word.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Is well, you'll no doubt hear many Utah words during
- 0:29Speaker 2: the following conversation between the former mayor of Mona, Utah,
- 0:34Speaker 2: Don Krittle, and his young son Denver Denny.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Denny, how come you're getting in so late. Mama's already
- 0:41Speaker 3: put the thupper away, th'mere to faith with cold cream
- 0:45Speaker 3: and drifted off to dreamland.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Well, that darned city council meeting, it just ran on
- 0:52Speaker 4: and on. Now, when I was mayor, I didn't let
- 0:56Speaker 4: that kind of thing happen. I wasn't afraid to use
- 0:59Speaker 4: the gab to speed the proceduring along. I kept things
- 1:03Speaker 4: moving either by banging the gavel real horde on the
- 1:07Speaker 4: table to end discussion, or banging the gavel real hard
- 1:11Speaker 4: on Athan Nelson's thick skull so we could vote.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I think that might be why old Aisha didn't run
- 1:16Speaker 3: for a second term on the council. If doctor said
- 1:18Speaker 3: that them meetings was probably the source of all those
- 1:22Speaker 3: terrible headaches he.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Was getting, well that could have been. I suppose he
- 1:26Speaker 4: could you heat me up some supper, Denver, what did
- 1:30Speaker 4: your mama make?
- 1:31Speaker 3: Red bean? An oyster slumgullion?
- 1:35Speaker 4: Never mind, then I'll just have some buttered saltines in
- 1:39Speaker 4: a glass of cow's milk.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Daddy, you ain't the man no more? Why do you
- 1:44Speaker 3: keep going to them meeting.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Well, I still feel the need to make sure the
- 1:47Speaker 4: public's money is being well spent. And tonight they was
- 1:52Speaker 4: talking about using a pretty good chunk of change from
- 1:55Speaker 4: the par tax par tax. What is that, well, some
- 1:59Speaker 4: kind of grant or slush fund if we're being honest,
- 2:03Speaker 4: that we need to use for p parks, a orts
- 2:08Speaker 4: or r recreation par And then I was there to
- 2:12Speaker 4: make sure that the council didn't vote to use it
- 2:14Speaker 4: for arts.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Was you successful in your effort?
- 2:17Speaker 4: Yep, we voted to use the poor grant for pickleball courts.
- 2:22Speaker 4: But Asa Nelson's half brother Dink is on the council now,
- 2:25Speaker 4: and he just kept going on and on how we
- 2:28Speaker 4: use them poor funds. The pickleball courts would be owned
- 2:31Speaker 4: by the state and not the city of Mona. It's
- 2:33Speaker 4: just not true. And then he was all a twitter
- 2:37Speaker 4: about where are we gonna put them.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Pickleball court Well, hell, Daddy had just put him where
- 2:42Speaker 3: the old ballfield is. The place is just home to weeds.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Now that's very good boy, that's what we told him.
- 2:48Speaker 4: And you watch your mouth. I will not have you swearing.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Oh I'm sorry, daddy, but you put old Dink in
- 2:55Speaker 3: his place. I bet well.
- 2:56Speaker 4: I me and a couple of others, and the council
- 2:59Speaker 4: finally voted to go ahead and authorize the building of
- 3:03Speaker 4: them pickleball courts at the old ballfield site. There's just
- 3:08Speaker 4: one thing, What thing, Daddy? What intarnation is pickleball?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Join us again some other time as we examine how
- 3:18Speaker 1: the Utah natives speak with the Utah word of the day.
