- 1:45her name is Kendall McWilliams. Everybody knows her as b as you say,
- 1:49the Jessica Smith, I am d She lock and loads them all the
- 1:57time. Right now, she's not taking clients. Not I'm a making the
- 2:00public announcements with my daddy. Think he got special privileges. Listen, because
- 2:02why he do that? Yesterday y'all, we was at a restaurant. Before
- 2:07we get to the restaurant to celebrate my sister birthday. Before we get to
- 2:12the restaurant, Daddy decides to message us to say, hurry up, I
- 2:20got a client for you. Kendle have clients already, sir. But Daddy
- 2:25Daddy proud, Daddy proud for one of his children. He got something to
- 2:30be proud of. I tell Nick, did you know he did that?
- 2:36However, Daddy also acts like my grandmother. He pulled out a Jesidale yesterday.
- 2:40That was a hole, that was a whole just but I ended up
- 2:44liking. I'm glad she is. She was first of first of all,
- 2:47this lady that came up to Kendle. First of all, she was boring,
- 2:51courageous because we didn't even know she worked at Shawnee's. We went to
- 2:54shawn we didn't even know she worked at Shawnee's. And the lady. The
- 3:00lady. The reason why we didn't know because she had like this meek on.
- 3:06She had heels on. Everybody else had the Shawney's shirt on and some
- 3:10regular pants and an apron. She wasn't wearing it. No, she didn't.
- 3:15She didn't wear that at all. She was she I thought she was
- 3:17the owner. She said, I'm just she's the hostess. I am the
- 3:21host I said. I was so confused. I was because my baby spilled
- 3:25her drink and that's when we found out. Just so the drink was spilled,
- 3:30and I was like, I was looking for somebody. She was like,
- 3:34what you need? I said, you working? All of us we
- 3:37were just staying at her. It was like and she was the old baby.
- 3:39It's just like this little you know. She said, I don't do
- 3:42this. I don't I got man, my man worked at the my man
- 3:47got two jobs. I don't need this. She was giving energy, like
- 3:53baby, they need me, I don't need them okay. I was like,
- 3:57oh I was I was confused. I was confused. So we had
- 4:00Yeah we did. They have a good time yesday. But let's go back
- 4:03to Usher, Usher, Baby, this is for you, you my number
- 4:09one. I really like Usher and I would like to see him live.
- 4:14Let's pray that he goes maybe on tour. He announces the tour after this
- 4:20super Bowl because they, I mean, everybody's on tour. First of all,
- 4:24COVID took a lot of money from these entertainments they did, and they
- 4:27traveling, they doing the most. It's outside. I think I saw the
- 4:30old jas of tour. What I don't know. I think I seen a
- 4:33fly with the old j's on it. I said, baby, y'all should
- 4:36be retired. I know that, I said, BROSI they had to take
- 4:40a break out of the water and passed away. I'm like, but y'all
- 4:42on this Yeah, but but they But what the what COVID did too was
- 4:47a pushed creativity. It did because we got into the norm of it had
- 4:54to look this way, you know what I'm saying. Like, and when
- 4:58we when we box creativity in like that, then we don't expand and expose
- 5:06ourselves. To what God is already planned, right, and so it benefited
- 5:10people who were willing to do something new. Definitely, like COVID the shut
- 5:16down, everything benefitted people, not only for people that were willing to do
- 5:20something new, but people that were willing to invest in the new thing.
- 5:26There go that part that is that right there. Because we can think,
- 5:32we can think, we can think all day. Thoughts are free. Yep,
- 5:36everybody got a thought, everybody, but does everybody have the willingness to
- 5:41invest? And so the artists, the creatives, the influencers that had the
- 5:48gut to say, Okay, my thought, I gotta put some money on
- 5:51this. I gotta put some time on this, because you know money,
- 5:56you know, money ain't just you can't just pay for things to happened.
- 6:00So it's sometimes a lot of times stuff takes time. Right. But yeah,
- 6:06that that era you know, did take I want to say, took
- 6:11some money. It challenged people to think outside of their their creative norm Oh
- 6:15yeah, it definitely. It definitely gave people the bag, like people's rent
- 6:21for the bag. I think twenty twenty was a lesson learned because especially let's
- 6:27just talk about people who are in the service industry, yeah, I was
- 6:31just gonna bring it up. Is that not when you decided to leave your
- 6:34full time? Well, it was played. So I used to be a
- 6:38preschool teacher and I was doing like here on the weekend side to make a
- 6:42little extra money. And then as my client clientele started to grow, I
- 6:46decided, Hey, I think I could see myself doing this full time.
- 6:51Because at first it was very scary to think that, and but COVID gave
- 6:57me the extra push because you know I am I'm very timid. I'm not
- 7:00the type this just gonna jump in the water. People think that because on
- 7:02the outside looking in they were like, oh, Kima just you know,
- 7:05started doing hair. It was like no, Like I had to build it
- 7:09up and I had to get my feet with before I decided I was just
- 7:13gonna quit. So that was the goal. And then I was like,
- 7:16okay, it's my last year teaching. It was my my brother, my
- 7:18little brother was at the school. Yeah. I got a little brother the
- 7:21same age as my daughters. This Yeah, so my my little brother was
- 7:27still at the school and I told them I was gonna still stay up there.
- 7:30I didn't think that the school's gonna do anything to him. But I
- 7:32was like, I'll just be up there to be his comfort, and this
- 7:35will be my last year, not knowing the pandemic was gonna happen, right,
- 7:41not knowing that I was gonna be pregnant. Yeah, what y'all?
- 7:47That year listen, twenty twenty was traumatizing, but it was also uh it
- 7:56made me stronger for sure, especially like family wise, but business wise too,
- 8:05So I had to have a lot of faith as far as like like
- 8:09I saying, during it, During that time, people in the service industry
- 8:11that had to figure something out. So it was ways that people figured out
- 8:16to make money outside of the physical right right, So people were that's when
- 8:20you saw more content. This is just my opinion. You saw more people
- 8:24pushing out content as far as in the beauty industry or food content or anything.
- 8:31Content was like boom boom boom, and everything blew up. That's just
- 8:35I think twenty twenty was a year of making money online. Like that's when
- 8:41people like I feel like, worked way harder. Now. It's like it
- 8:45looks different in my opinion, if I was in college during this time,
- 8:48it's no way I would be broken. That's good, No way I would
- 8:52be broke. When I hear broke people say broke college students, I laugh
- 8:56because, for one, a lot of people like they're fewer college students is
- 9:01going because growing up when our area is like they push, push, pushing
- 9:05on to college college college liked. Dad didn't give us an option. I
- 9:11don't think that. It was like you got you got to go. Yeah,
- 9:15I don't think we had an option. I tried to go to the
- 9:16military that it was like, no, you told me that you're gonna go
- 9:20to myles and you walk. Yeah, you're going somewhere. You're staying right
- 9:22around from college. So he was like, yeah, shout at the hbcut
- 9:28bands down. Yeah, yeah, I loved it. But but yeah,
- 9:35like it was no option. So now it's funny because my nine year daughter
- 9:39an option for her is, oh, I'm gonna be a content creator.
- 9:45That was that was not, that's not that's the whole career. That's the
- 9:48whole career now, And people don't understand how hard it is to It's not
- 9:52waking up and getting on the camera. It's a job. It's can you
- 9:56can you give? You know, the folks just a rundown of what that
- 10:01looks like. As far as like capturing to the edit to the posting man.
- 10:05So I want to start with planning, right, So I think what
- 10:09has what has helped me is putting together a workflow like Okay, it's good
- 10:15start with you know, I set this up like this, I put this
- 10:18here, I put that there, and this is even before like we hit
- 10:20record. Right. So the setup, whether you are breaking it down and
- 10:24taking it breaking it down each time or just leaving it is important to help
- 10:28with the flow of what you're creating right right. So then before before that,
- 10:31it's like, okay, well, what you're gonna record? Yeah,
- 10:33I mean some people can just jump out there and and and just create like
- 10:37that, but some people they have to like sit down and you know,
- 10:39get the thoughts out. Okay, what am I gonna be talking about?
- 10:41What is this gonna look like? You know? From there? Then it's
- 10:43like, okay, now I'm gonna record it. Great, Well, what
- 10:46does the sound sound like? What does the light look like? What am
- 10:50I recording it on? Am I putting this on my phone? Or am
- 10:52I doing with a camera or we going with the audio from the from the
- 10:56camera the phone, We putting mics in, We got ring lights, got
- 11:00box lights, we got round lights, Like what does that look like?
- 11:03What is that? Okay, now now that I've recorded it? What am
- 11:07I doing with this? How am I editing this? Do I am?
- 11:09I have to? Am I gonna have to learn like editing software, Premiere
- 11:13Pro Final Cut Da Vinci or am I gonna do it on my phone?
- 11:16The phone of I mean, how do you? How do you get that?
- 11:20Then? Where to put it? It's just like YouTube is this like
- 11:26TikTok? Is this like you know Vimeo, Vimeo? Like where is it
- 11:30going? But the overall thing is like what's the purpose and what's the why
- 11:33that? Because all of that other stuff will be figured out if you just
- 11:39go just go go back and go ahead. I'm just I'm listen. I
- 11:45just talked to my assistant and I told her we're gonna bring so. She's
- 11:48so good. She reminds me so much of you. Her name is Dane.
- 11:50Oh come on and shout out to you Dan your book. So I
- 11:56was just talking to her. She is a pusher. Like if she was
- 11:58in Birmingham, I probably will be so much further along. Like she doesn't
- 12:01live in Birmingham, Yeah, but I don't know. She she might be
- 12:05ready for a move, you think so, might you hear that? Yeah?
- 12:09Yeah, you might be ready to come home. Girl. I told
- 12:11her, listen, when I make I'm gonna get to my point of me.
- 12:15But I told her, I said, when I make some money,
- 12:16some real money, you coming with me? Yeah you're not. You are
- 12:20not a pr Come and she's with me now, you know, because it's
- 12:24a whole testimony, like Juffica, I'm like, she do that now,
- 12:30because the editing of alone, I'm like, Godly, that's not easy,
- 12:33y'all. It's not easy. It's not And I did it for myself before
- 12:35Desiree was coming, like the Desiree was a whole upgrade, like it was
- 12:39a whole upgrade or not even just just as before my life, you know
- 12:45what I'm saying. And so one thing I told the young ladies this yesterday
- 12:50is that sometimes we think that we can do stuff by faith. But doing
- 12:54stuff by faith does not give you the right to do it alone. Doing
- 13:00stuff by faith does not give you permission to say I have to hide this
- 13:03and keep this to myself. Doing it by faith and say I'm going to
- 13:07go by any means necessary. Any means necessary does not mean you need to
- 13:13do it by yourself, you know. I had I had a conversation with
- 13:15my pastor today and we were talking about the ministry. Yeah, unboxed storship,
- 13:26right, and so she would just giving me wisdom on you know,
- 13:28some of the things I've shared with her and she and that's exactly what she
- 13:31said. She said that first, you have to write the vision right because
- 13:37you know, you know it because it's it's it's what's been put on the
- 13:39inside of you, right, so I know from the back of your hand.
- 13:41But the faith party is actually writing it down. And then the scripture
- 13:45says, write it so that they can run rightday. It don't say write
- 13:50it down so that you can do all the things because that's what you're comfortable
- 13:54when you don't trust nobody. It says, write it down so that they
- 13:56can run with it. So once you write it down, saying hey,
- 14:00I got the faith to whatever it's supposed to look like, whoever's supposed to
- 14:03come, I know that the vision is clear enough for them to be able
- 14:05to run. But you have to be open and willing enough to allow them
- 14:09to run with it. Open and willing enough for them to run with it.
- 14:13Go ahead, I'm sorry. I think that day party is so it's
- 14:18so good too, because not only okay, after you write that that vision,
- 14:24now to make it plain, when you include they, that's accountability because
- 14:30you can say something all day and as me, I love, I have
- 14:33some of the best ideals, but if I just say it to myself,
- 14:37then who's gonna push me. Who's gonna help me push to get to that
- 14:41Yeah, to that level that I need seeing. But also they can witness
- 14:46the the hard work because a lot of times on the outside looking in,
- 14:52like I was telling you about my business, my business seemed like it grew
- 14:56fast, but it was a process. I've been doing this for a way
- 14:58longer than even blows my mind, the process. But having a they watching
- 15:07the hard work, watching the zero view, watching the times where nobody shared,
- 15:13nobody liked, and then you get to that point to where you're on
- 15:16a certain platform or making a certain amount of money or doing a certain thing.
- 15:20They saw it because they were a part of it, so they can
- 15:24appreciate it more because everybody else might have some difference to say, but they
- 15:28are with you. I had to it's you know, I know it's real,
- 15:43come on now, but the day is important. And one of the
- 15:48things the Lord was showing me the other days how important the day is in
- 15:54every as spend. And so it's not just within business, but it's personal
- 15:58to you said the word accountability, right, and so what account of accountability
- 16:04is scary? Like I'll say for me personally, is been scary because for
- 16:07one, let's start with here, allow the Lord to send you accountability.
- 16:15Everybody does. Can't manage what to hold you in because in my account when
- 16:22you when you hold me account that's what the first part of it. You
- 16:26have to hold me, and then the accountability comes after that. You can't
- 16:30manage the weight. Ain't no holding. I'm heavy baby like you. But
- 16:45if you can't maintain or manage the weight of me, it's nothing for you
- 16:52to hold me account because it's a way, it's a way. It's waiting
- 16:57because I don't need you, because I'm not gonna Holding me accountable don't always
- 17:03look good. Holding me accountable is not always favorable to you. Holding me
- 17:07accountable is not always gonna make you happy. But can't can you stand the
- 17:11rain? My God? Can you stand the rain? Can you stand the
- 17:15storm? Can you stand the testing? Because my good gonna be great,
- 17:19My good gonna be great. But can you can you manage the ugly side
- 17:23of me and still understand and see me? And that's and I've told there's
- 17:30a ray before it is that that I appreciate you so much because you've seen
- 17:38some really really really ugly signs of Jessica Esthmith. But even in those ugly
- 17:47moments of you having to call me out and hold me accountable, you still
- 17:52didn't unsee the anointing. You still didn't unsee the purpose. You still come
- 17:56and say, Justic, we still got an episode too. She didn't quit
- 18:00on me because Justin didn't get it right. And so now I know that
- 18:07I can allow her to hold me accountable. So there is a two way
- 18:11street. So now I have to accept the accountability and then I have to
- 18:15allow her to hold me accountable. I can't. I might book. I'll
- 18:18be booking, y'all. I book if you book that me? Okay,
- 18:23killdle being killed? Had it out? Greg? I don't know you're watching
- 18:29this, Greg. This is like literally my brother, y'all. Like this,
- 18:33this dude holds me accountable. He's always stretching me. And so if
- 18:38you can't stand me bucking at you or if you can't, and it's not
- 18:41in a bad way. It's just your flesh gotta die. My flesh is
- 18:45still dying. My flesh, my pride is still dying. Right And so
- 18:52for me to say, okay, you know the day and we talk talk
- 18:56about accountability, this is God's accountability. God is not going to send people
- 19:00that can't manage, manage who you are in full and you and when I
- 19:07think about this, range, man, I think I gotcha. Can you
- 19:15keep talking about this? Right? Because like the fact that what has been
- 19:19like a year since y'all have had this connection, right, just by a
- 19:22year a year we've been knowing each other, I know, knowing each other,
- 19:27but i'd probably so maybe I say, maybe, like yeah, at
- 19:33the end of twenty twenty two, okay, when we kind of started kind
- 19:36of connecting, connecting and so short term like to be able to y'all's chemistry.
- 19:42Now here's the thing, and it's this is the perfect part about it,
- 19:47Like you're and I know Joessica feels this way because it's how I feel
- 19:51about Danielle, my assistant. The fact that what I lack she yeah,
- 20:03she's like I got it. Yeah, I don't even have the ax.
- 20:07She is so organized. I am not. I'm trying to get to the
- 20:11point where I just can do a little bit at the time. But she
- 20:12that's the part of somebody holding accountable. And it is not so much where
- 20:18it's like, oh, it's an hour row. It's like I fit in.
- 20:22It's like a puzzle piece, right. I feel in right there where
- 20:23it's missing, where it's the whole. I fit in. And that's how
- 20:26I feel about you and Jessica, because I don't Jessica's doing a podcast by
- 20:33herself. But until you came along with the team, even though she's the
- 20:37face of her podcast, y'all are team and you make her podcast what it
- 20:45is, and you could. She couldn't do it at you. You couldn't
- 20:48do it without her period. So that's how I feel about my business too
- 20:51right now, because a lot of the stuff I'm like rolling my eyes and
- 20:55I'm overwhelmed by by She's not. Then you're like, oh the things.
- 21:00I'd be like, oh my gosh, thank you so much. She's like,
- 21:02huh, what are you talking about? This is my natural ability.
- 21:03Yeah, And it's the same thing with me when it comes to certain things.
- 21:07So when it you like, you hit it on the nail yesterday you
- 21:15said when we were just talking about having your day or whatever. And I
- 21:22think, like even when I went into the beauty industry, I knew I
- 21:25was like, I want to do this alone. Like I don't want to
- 21:29I don't want to deal with nobody else. I'm not a people person.
- 21:30I don't want to buy this. And then third, but how am I
- 21:33gonna elevate? How How am I gonna elevate without having a day? Yeah,
- 21:37you know what I mean. It's no way that I can elevate without
- 21:41having a day. There's no way that I can't have a team. I
- 21:44can't do this alone. I don't care that I'm the face in the brain
- 21:47of Kenml's dread heads. I cannot do this alone, Kendall. The gag
- 21:51is Jesus didn't even do it alone. He had he had a whole discile,
- 21:56the gangsters, and it was twelve of them. Twelve, Like he's
- 22:00gonna get to. The gag is is that Jesus had all power and still
- 22:06chose to have community. He had picked his community. Like that's the gag.
- 22:12Like the gag is that we and I think I'm saying it for me
- 22:15because I tried so hard to do it by myself. Like I'm like,
- 22:19oh, I works to it, but I work will by myself. Blah
- 22:22blah blah blah. Even me being a leader, Me and Greg talk about
- 22:25this like this is something I'm working on at work, and he said,
- 22:29he said, justin you get stuff done when you're by yourself, Like when
- 22:32you run the break on yourself, you do x y and z la lahl
- 22:33lah lah. Okay, Bet, I just need you to learn how to
- 22:37do this with a team. Coach d has told me the same thing,
- 22:41and so I'm just like, okay, how do I include people? And
- 22:47that's a trust issue, you know what I'm saying, That's a trust It's
- 22:49like if it's got my name on it, it's gotta go right x y
- 22:53Z. When I and I try to, you know, let people do
- 22:56what they gonna do. Why do I have to keep following up you begging
- 23:00you to do something that you committed to doing? Like it gives me an
- 23:03attitude, Okay, I get a straight attitude of having a follow up with
- 23:07people when they committed to something. But that's a whole nother podcast. Not
- 23:11even I'm not going on that way. However, however, when you realize
- 23:18the power of day right, you would be so much further along. And
- 23:22then when you when you try to isolate yourself, not only are you hindering
- 23:26you, you're blocking everybody else that's supposed to be connected to your growth to
- 23:32bring them up, to bring up like you saying, oh, I'm this
- 23:34influencer, I'm this, I'm a business owner, but you're doing everything by
- 23:37yourself. Another thing that I wanted to bring up, Kendall, when you
- 23:41said something about the content creative creation, and it brought content creation on all
- 23:48spectrums right, So it wasn't just people in their lifestyles. It was people
- 23:52teaching stuff and opening up about their expertise and not charging for everything. They
- 23:57start to oh my god. They had to start giving the pandemic force a
- 24:03giving out of people that blessed them beyond message. It was like, oh,
- 24:07so if I get on Instagram and I just start talking to people and
- 24:11saying, hey, this is how I twist the lock. If I get
- 24:15on TikTok and act like y'all my family and say hey this is how you
- 24:21do this, or girl, you saw that I did yes, said like
- 24:25they were building communities which built wealth. This is so good. So if
- 24:30I don't have wealth, I might not have community. If I have if
- 24:34I don't have wealth, I might be missing out on my community. It's
- 24:37not that you're not smart enough. It's not that you're not you're not welling
- 24:42down. It's not that you don't spend time with the Lord. It's not
- 24:47that you don't meditate. It's not that you don't have a plan. You
- 24:51do not have community. Community is what's pushing this brand forward. I ain't
- 24:57a millionaire doing alone, man, And then the ones that do probably they
- 25:02died. They died for real. I ain't never seen it. So,
- 25:07I mean, and you talked about the beauty industry. That was hilarious.
- 25:12I remember putting my stuff out of me, like during the pandemic, nobody
- 25:18was. I ain't gonna say, couldn't because you know, some people are
- 25:19still sneaking getting their hair done. But with y'all, y'alls to be doing
- 25:27hair and service and people during their time, right. So a lot of
- 25:33people went in and started teaching online, and I know that was something I
- 25:40would do, and it was really specifically for my clients because They were like,
- 25:41you're not getting your hair up for months at the time. This is
- 25:45crazy, like something I went out and taught people and a lot of people
- 25:49were like, oh, thank you so much. You know kiindle this and
- 25:52the third. But I had people who were marketing from it. But in
- 25:56the in in the beginning, they were making money from classes and all of
- 26:02this. Those people were upset at the outpour of people teaching online. They
- 26:08can I mean, I get it to a certain extent, but what's yours
- 26:12is yours. I'm not stopping anybody if you want to put a whole free
- 26:15class online. What some people went to college for free, some people didn't
- 26:22have to pay a dime, and then some people had to pay for it.
- 26:26But does that make the listening Let's know. I'm sorry, but what's
- 26:32for you is for you. That's your opportunity. So we have to stop
- 26:36looking at well other people are marketing off of as far as their country.
- 26:41I remember being on TikTok Live, y'all, and I see I'm trying to
- 26:45get back in the floor of things. I like putting out natural energy.
- 26:48I don't like forcing energy because people don't know. Again, content creator is
- 26:53being a content creator or talking to online users. It is draining. It's
- 27:00not just getting up and talking. It's not like you literally have to be
- 27:03mentally prepared. One. When I get online, I'm gonna make sure that
- 27:07my clients are good. Yeah, I'm gonna make sure that the people that
- 27:14are watching are entertaining good and I'll make sure I'm doing my job. If
- 27:18I can't do all three, I'm not getting online. I'm not doing it.
- 27:21If I have a client who they came in and they're not having their
- 27:23bedsday, I dare not put them online. That's so good. So if
- 27:27I'm having a good day, my client's having a good day or whatever,
- 27:30and I'm focused, I can get online do that. But anyway, during
- 27:33that time twenty twenty one, that's when I started getting on live and a
- 27:40white woman got on and she was asking all these questions, and people in
- 27:44the comments were getting upset with her because she was asking questions about what I
- 27:47was doing with black hair, and I said, it's okay. She had
- 27:49questions. She wasn't gonna be ignorant and assume I appreciated her getting on there
- 27:53and saying, hey, what does that mean or what are you doing?
- 27:56She had no connection with black hair, had nothing. I think she lived
- 28:00in like the whitest state of America. But she saw my live and I
- 28:04was entertaining her, and I also was answering her questions. The lady asked
- 28:08me what my cash hat was and she sent me one hundred dollars. Come
- 28:11on, And I was like what because you took time with her. I
- 28:15took time. I talked to her, entertained her, entertained my clients,
- 28:21and I still did my job and she was so And that's where you're talking
- 28:23about people. We had the giving people like it's more than y'all. I
- 28:27can give it. Thousands of people can see that, but maybe maybe ten
- 28:33people out of the thousands might give me a gift. I still was blessed
- 28:36from being able to put that out there. Yes, I can market off
- 28:40of other classes outside and stuff like that, but it's ways to it's ways
- 28:45to benefit from your business where you feel like you put it out and it's
- 28:49free, and it's not free because you getting on live and teaching and you
- 28:53teaching so well that person might not tip you for saying what you're saying,
- 28:56but you put a class for a couple months of a couple of months later
- 29:00they gonna sign up for their class. It happened. It happened. You
- 29:03saw it. People came from floor. I didn't know this lady from from
- 29:07half a class. I didn't know that was like, yeah, I caught
- 29:10one of your lives, Ladro from Florida. Hey, I wanted to learn
- 29:14how to do my son's here. I wanted to learn how to do I'm
- 29:15like, huh, because people need help. Yeah, that's like content creation
- 29:22and the one thing I if I could get out my own way with this
- 29:26one thing I appreciate about content creation is what's missing is found through country,
- 29:32country and creation and because everybody's trying to do it perfectly. And and this
- 29:38is what I did want to say towards you know, or after to add
- 29:42on what desil Ray was presenting. Is that is that you may not have
- 29:52all the tools that she named, but you have something something like every day
- 30:00every day in our hand we have like before before we even started recording,
- 30:06I recorded myself on my on my Instagram, on your on your phone,
- 30:11and the sunlight and the sunlight. That's it. That's all I did.
- 30:15Start somewhere and you got to I stood before before desilt Ray. I went
- 30:21on Facebook, uh not Messer marketplace, and I found a cannon cameras was
- 30:27our R seven rebel something I just thought it was. It looked like the
- 30:34camera she used about it. I got it for one hundred dollars and I
- 30:44got started with what I did. Y'all can go back on YouTube. Y'all
- 30:47can even go back on you know, to listen to not a quality of
- 30:49the ear. The sound was pretty decent, you know, I got it.
- 30:52I learned a little something in church about the sound. Okay, but
- 30:57as far as the video quality, camera wasn't camera like this camera now,
- 31:02Okay, drastic difference. But I did something. Yeah, I did something,
- 31:07and I did what I could. I put it. I sold the
- 31:10seed into the atmosphere. And when we I'm speaking to those of you who
- 31:15might identify where I've been to where I kept allowing tools that I didn't have,
- 31:21and I saw everybody else have stopped me from what God was doing.
- 31:26Right at one point, let's even take it back, before I even started
- 31:29calling calling this a podcast, we had I think it was still called just
- 31:33Ass. Like it was still called just Ass. And if you go back
- 31:37and look at it, I was doing interviews then didn't know didn't even know
- 31:41what I was doing. See baby, y'all, let's let's let yes.
- 31:45Katie was the first guest and we did our nails. We did our why
- 31:49she's still talking about she was on your TV show. She was my baby,
- 31:53was my my niece, was my first give she was. We did
- 31:56our nails together and I used the phone. I used the phone, put
- 32:01it on and a little bitty and I still got that ring. I need
- 32:06to upgrade the ring light, but I still have that ring light. I
- 32:08just started because well, I started with what I had, and I stay
- 32:15committed to what I could commit to. Right, I committed to what I
- 32:20could commit to. And what y'all see now and what you're experiencing now,
- 32:28it's just the seed that I saw with Katie, my niece, my baby,
- 32:35that's my baby out, that's my baby. She came and spend some
- 32:38time with me. She spent the night with me. I want to say
- 32:40she spent that week with you. She spent a lot of I think,
- 32:44and we was like, I said, you want to us record doing nails,
- 32:47and that's it. We was doing our nails together and didn't get a
- 32:52lot of traction now. It probably will now because that's my baby, It
- 32:57probably will now. But you know that gave her something that we can bond
- 33:02over. You know, I just took the first step. You can't go
- 33:07a million miles an hour before you take the first mind, you know what
- 33:12I'm saying, Like, you can't just hit the gas. It's still gotta
- 33:15go go from zero, and it's still gotta itch up a little bit before
- 33:19you like, it still has to hit that first number, you know what
- 33:22I'm saying, And that first number. Some people start at a three,
- 33:24some people start at a tea. Some some people do start at on it,
- 33:28yeah, because they put in investments. So technically, technically everybody ain't
- 33:35got it all together, all right, And so I think that as a
- 33:37content creative, I'm learning that not to overthink. It's so hard. I
- 33:50think this is even the first time I'm considering myself as a content creator.
- 33:52You are out loud, like, I don't even I don't I just been
- 33:57doing this. I'm say, Oh, I just do podcasts. Oh I
- 33:59did this? You are content? You know what I'm saying. I think
- 34:01this is the first time I said content creator out loud. For Jessica and
- 34:07I think the responsibility of that has scared me. It's scary the responsibility because
- 34:15the X people started expecting them thoughts on TikTok be man. When you don't
- 34:20go live, can listen where you being? The last time I went live,
- 34:22I had so many people on there and I was like, whoa,
- 34:24where are you being killed? Where you been with? Girl? So what
- 34:30do you think? What do you think a healthy balance for you and content
- 34:36creation looks like with you? You? Because let's listen, I gotta make
- 34:39it plain for the people. Yeah, you're married, you have a business,
- 34:45you have three kids, don't forget the dogs, and fifteen dollars yeah
- 34:50literally right now, right now. Please if y'all need a dog, please
- 34:53DM her, please searing me please. So, like I told y'all earlier
- 35:01in the conversation, I was saying that I think it is very important to
- 35:09be in a good mental space, and I think I've been seen it with
- 35:13other content creators. If you're not in a good mental space, you're not
- 35:17I don't feel like you're going to be creating the best content. Some people
- 35:24still push it, but I've seen so many content creators like just disappear and
- 35:28then come back like nothing ever happened. But they'll say, hey, I
- 35:30needed a break. It's overwhelming when when people have, like you said,
- 35:36this expectation of you every day pushing this stuff out, and sometimes it's just
- 35:43posting the video, but you, like I said, it's so much behind
- 35:45posting the video. What is my caption going to be? What is the
- 35:49lighting? What's the song I'm gonna use? I'm I use this trending song?
- 35:52Am I gonna talk over this? They like me talking on the video
- 35:54more. I sound like a horse this morning. I cannot post this.
- 35:58Oh, it's better to post during this time. This time is when I
- 36:00do well. I'm working, so I have to schedule this or I have
- 36:07to do It's a lot that goes into it. And I got into a
- 36:09season of life. Y'all know that I was working in the salon, decided
- 36:15to leave the salon and go home, and it was all I ain't gonna
- 36:16say it was on a whim. It was just a lot of build up
- 36:21during that time. There was a lot of stuff going on personally too,
- 36:23not just with work, it was personally too, So I was like,
- 36:27I have to breathe. It was so much going on. I couldn't breathe.
- 36:31And during that transition, I'm, you know, paying people to building
- 36:39my basement from the ground up right, and all of that happened, and
- 36:43that was overwhelming. It was like a good thing that was happening, but
- 36:45it was so overwhelming, and I felt pressure to look a certain way with
- 36:53my content, like I wanted content to look a certain way, especially with
- 36:59me TRANSI I didn't want to be. I was low key embarrassed, especially
- 37:01when I was upstairs. Y'all was shampooing back in my saint and I was
- 37:05like, I heard so much if you're on the internet to every I don't
- 37:08want no kitchen and betation. My clients still came, they didn't care,
- 37:12but I was so embarrassed, and they keep reminding me, like kildall,
- 37:15like we know you was going through a transition phase. So shampoot in my
- 37:20in my kitchen sink upstairs, and then really that was my main area,
- 37:28everybody's main area. So I couldn't tell my kids, Hey, don't come
- 37:31through this day house. My husband, don't don't come through this. This
- 37:35is their house. So I was it was literally chaos. I said,
- 37:38I can't create no content like this. My mind is clutter, so I
- 37:43know I'm not gonna push out the best content. And when I was pushing
- 37:45out content then it was it was mediocre. It was just like I'm just
- 37:50gonna do it because I know everybody looking for me to do it. So
- 37:52I finally got into the space now, like so we set, we settled
- 37:58what we finished building, and and then I still wasn't okay. I still
- 38:01went't like settled in the salon. I still had a lot of personal stuff
- 38:06going on from May on to the end of the year. So I'm like,
- 38:10nah, because when people get online, they feel my energy and literally
- 38:15I didn't even know this. People get on there and they're like, oh
- 38:19my gosh, you're so nice and I feel you da da da da versus
- 38:23you know some of the like some of these people were not even had they
- 38:28didn't have any connection with dread Locks. They had, you know, like
- 38:31they just on their because you're so entertaining, Kent, You're funny, You're
- 38:35this. I love how you talk the same way I'm talking now, bew
- 38:38I talk to them. So I'm like, I'm not being fake, but
- 38:40I want to be in my best mood because I don't want to be like
- 38:44somebody said the wrong thing on the wrong day, right, So that's huh.
- 38:50That was interrogo though, to be mindful of what you could manage and
- 38:53release because some people just do it and be burnt out. Yeah, like
- 39:00experiencing burnout as a content creator. Come on now, like when you got
- 39:05to show you really have to be present. You really have to be present.
- 39:07And so I think that even when the art of content creation and using
- 39:13like being okay with the multi purposing of content and so what do I mean
- 39:20by that is taking at one thing and having multiple fashions of them, so
- 39:24not always happening to show up and show up as yourself in the videos or
- 39:29not. I'm learning that right now, just like okay, Jessica, how
- 39:31can you make this work? This one thing work, or this one video,
- 39:39this one you know clip, like how can you make this work for
- 39:44you? And then I had to just start being okay, well, this
- 39:45is what I can give right now, me and doesn't really doing the best
- 39:49that we can and when God sends us somebody else to as the team God,
- 39:52this is what we need. And we're being very clear about this because
- 39:55we got everything else. Yeah, we're doing good with what we can do
- 39:59good with right now. Yeah, and it's in this industry I learned,
- 40:04and I'm teaching myself this to y'all. I'm saying this out loud. I
- 40:07said it too. I said it to Vun. I rebuked the spirit of
- 40:10laziness. M. I cannot expect to be have these things. I have
- 40:16dreams, Like I told you, I dream and and think about things and
- 40:20have the best ideas. I'm telling y'all like some ideas. I'm like,
- 40:22bro, I don't tell nobody because I'm like, let me get let me
- 40:25get on to it, because you know this, this is mine and it's
- 40:29gonna blow up. I have been rebuking that since about to say, December,
- 40:35because I didn't realize a lot of times, I'm tired and tiredness and
- 40:40laziness is two different things, right, So can you can you explain the
- 40:46difference that you learned? What's the difference between you? So I'm tired,
- 40:52I ain't going some tired. I say, I can lay down right now.
- 40:54But it was my choice to get up, drive be here, that's
- 41:00and create right me deciding to go home and lay down even though I had
- 41:05the ability to do so in my opinion, that is being lazy because I
- 41:12could have been I could have used that time and managed that time to do
- 41:16what I need to do in order to progress. So if I'm taking time,
- 41:27if I, like I said, you choose what you want to do,
- 41:29it's even getting up and making a sandwich. Right, So you can
- 41:31be tired and it's okay. I think that's a part of like you you
- 41:35get your wrists. But I'm not managing the time. Well, the same
- 41:38time I say I'm tired, I'm laying down, I'm spelling on Facebook.
- 41:42And I could have been posting a video or something on Kendall's Redheads. I
- 41:46could have done that's but instead I decided to lazily scroll because it ain't tired.
- 41:53But you on face but I'm on Facebook. That's so, that's that's
- 41:58good. It sounds like as a mindset, mindset shift, and you be
- 42:01saying, okay, I'm gonna overcome a feeling. Yeah, that's how you
- 42:05know if you if you really can't get out of bed or really you know
- 42:09your brain like it's been now. The depression. Yeah, depression is real.
- 42:13Listen, if I can't function, it ain't even depressing. Like if
- 42:16I can't function on see straight. I don't need to be on no social
- 42:20media. I need to calm my brain down. Yeah, there's because people
- 42:25that are creative influencers. Your brain is going like a thousand miles per minute
- 42:30and you're trying to catch up with yourself, and especially if you're in leadership
- 42:37and you have a lot of responsibility, you need a break. Yeah you
- 42:40have. It's a musk. You gotta plan that break too. That's good.
- 42:45I don't play lunch breaks. I work through. I work all day
- 42:47through and people are like, okay when you take a lunch. I was
- 42:51like, what's that like? If I have if I finish this client fast
- 42:54because they they ain't got as mini lost, I can run upstairs and make
- 42:57me a sandwich of comebay. Damn. No, when is your break?
- 43:00This is another thing I'm talking my Danny Danielle Holsman accountable. She gives me
- 43:02one random off day every month. Just why I don't do anything. No
- 43:07doctor's appointments, No if I decided, like last my last one, I
- 43:09decided to go get a pedicure because I needed one real bad. And then
- 43:14I took my daughter go out of school early, and I took her buffalo
- 43:16wild wings and we had one on one time. So that was a calm
- 43:22day where I didn't do I didn't do anything or whatever. But lazy it
- 43:27is a lady. I can I forget her name, content creatit. She
- 43:29said she literally got all these follows just from starting to show herself, like
- 43:35clean up her house. She has three small kids, three or four,
- 43:37married, her husband work, come home. He like he's just not not
- 43:42involved. She says that not involved as far as making sure things are in
- 43:45order, and she let her life like literally crash her house look a miss.
- 43:50I couldn't even say my house looking missed anymore because I was like,
- 43:52lem me hush, like cause my kids are disgusting. My kids aren't discussing,
- 43:57and I'd be like, dang, I feel like every day and I
- 44:00I'm gonna say this, but I want you guys to say. I want
- 44:02you all to know I'm not beating you up because I'm in a space some
- 44:07days I don't feel like picking it up off the floor and it stay on
- 44:08the floor. You got kids. I understand your house ain't gonna be cleaned
- 44:12out time. Don't bust your head while open trying to But you were in
- 44:15a season where it was trash. Oh yes, but it's imagine that times
- 44:21three, like this lady house and she recorded it and show herself, y'all.
- 44:25I'm trying to get up out of she out of this mindset because one
- 44:29thing too, if your environment is pure chaos, your mind's gonna My mom
- 44:35My mom always told me how you expect your mind to be cleaning your house,
- 44:37Saint. So this lady is recording like picking up stuff like literally,
- 44:45y'all. It was doodoo on the floor. Her baby head took the type
- 44:47up and booboo on the floor. She didn't know it was in there.
- 44:50And she's cleaning her children room. It was doodo on the floor. So
- 44:52all these parents, oh, all these people are on their just judging her,
- 44:57and you don't know what she was mentally to do it. But for
- 45:00her to get up and say, I know I worked two hours she showed.
- 45:02I mean not two hours, two jobs, got these kids. But
- 45:07if I want something, I gotta go. I can't be lazy. I
- 45:10can't have the blame game. I can't she when I say I was convicted
- 45:15after watching and I started following her after that, and I coming on the
- 45:20any video I see pop up and I was like, girl, you are
- 45:22helping me so much. And I even did stuff like an artists. I
- 45:27ain't gonna say his name because he in trouble. He said that if you
- 45:32want something bad enough, work hard and pay somebody else to do it.
- 45:37So I'm working. I work a little extra. I do a couple more
- 45:40heads so I can have some cleaners come out once a month to clean my
- 45:46house so some of the stuff me and Vun don't feel like doing, it's
- 45:52not all on us. I pay one hundred and eighty dollars a month.
- 45:54I can afford that most of us go get that in food in two days.
- 45:59I can affoid somebody to come and clean my house, right, that's
- 46:00their job they want to do. I don't want to do it all the
- 46:04time. So that's what I'm gonna do. So, like I said,
- 46:06we have to invest in ourselves. We'll stop being lazy. And if you
- 46:09if you can't do it, work harder so you can pay somebody else to
- 46:12do it. Yeah, So I'm no longer like I talked to I talked
- 46:15the fun about it, and he because that's another thing. It was a
- 46:21insecurity of mine because I always been kind of chill, like I do when
- 46:24I can. But I realized that was lazy. I also like I struggled
- 46:30in school from being lazy. I struggled. I could have been so much
- 46:34better in other areas of my life if I decided to not be lazy.
- 46:42And that lady, it was watching her video, it was convicting. I
- 46:46was like, I do not want my life to end up like this.
- 46:49If I continue doing what I'm doing, my life is gonna look exactly like
- 46:52this. So so her creation, her country creation, gave you wisdom.
- 46:58Yeah, that's literally have you cleared it on what you could do? Yeah?
- 47:00So you were inspired by it versus intimid intimidated. Yeah, I've used
- 47:10witness people do stuff, and I'm getting I've gotten intimidated by thinking that I
- 47:15couldn't do the same thing or even better. I mean, not to shoot
- 47:22up out in the foot or anything like that. But the level of the
- 47:27level of boldness encouraged that she had to have to expose herself on that level.
- 47:30Yeah, and the people were dogging her out so bad, but she
- 47:34keep going, she keeps posting. But she you are the type of person
- 47:37that she's called to, And so we have to right there, we have
- 47:43to decide that no matter what the comments look like, no matter what people
- 47:46got to say, no matter what's going on, we have to make the
- 47:51decision not to be intimidated, yep, just to keep doing what we're doing.
- 47:57And land I'm a fine. I don't know. I'm proud of you
- 47:59girls. I am so proud of you. I don't remember your name right
- 48:02now. I don't remember nobody's name, but I am proud. But you
- 48:06said something so good, And that was another point I was going. You
- 48:08brought a make up point. I was thinking about your content and my content
- 48:13are different. It's gonna reach different people, but y'all know it is.
- 48:16I don't know how many people. Let's say, three billion people in the
- 48:19world. I just made that number up. I might be wrong. I'm
- 48:22three billion people right. We were talking about these last night, me and
- 48:24you and Stacey, all of us was bringing up content creators, and none
- 48:28of us know you're the same people people had millions of followers. Your audience
- 48:34might not look like somebody else audience, but you're still reaching somebody. So
- 48:39you know that's a testimony right there too. We can talk about that another
- 48:44day, another day. That's good. I think that's just that's just confirmation.
- 48:49I was sitting here thinking, and it's funny because the things that are
- 48:52coming up y'all saying. So I think it's just important to realize that we
- 48:58all have something, right, something on the inside that's for somebody. Right.
- 49:02And so as you're talking about content creation, everybody may not know what
- 49:06that is. I'm gonna tell you what content creation. So content creation.
- 49:13A content creator is someone who creates entertaining or educational material to be expressed through
- 49:19a medium. Right. So right now, our content creation that we are
- 49:22working on right now is through video. Right. Everybody may not that may
- 49:27not be their lane. Right. Some people are writers, right, some
- 49:30people are are crafty, or some people are artists, you know what I'm
- 49:36saying. They may actually like paint or draw you know what I'm saying,
- 49:38that's content. Right. So now you have to take this thing that you
- 49:42have because you are answered. You are you are the solution to somebody's problem,
- 49:46and you have to figure out what is the best way that you're going
- 49:50to to share this content for whoever this this is for, right, but
- 49:53some people it may be video. Right now, everybody comfortable with video.
- 49:58Well, guess what, there's different ways that you don't necessarily have to show
- 50:00your face in order to share your your thing on video. Right. For
- 50:05some people, that may be a blog. If you're a writer, that's
- 50:07still content, that's still creating content. It may be an email, right.
- 50:10You may you may share your thoughts in your in your in your in
- 50:14your ideas through an email list. You know what I'm saying. So don't
- 50:17discount. And my pastor said this today. You know, we look at
- 50:20people who are doing the things, who are sharing right, and we'll be
- 50:23like, oh man, I want my stuff to look like that, or
- 50:27I want to be like that. But the truth of the matter is you
- 50:29don't know. You don't know the process. You don't know the weight of
- 50:31what they have. We don't know what somebody else has. We just know
- 50:36that they've taken the step to share, to share it, right. So
- 50:39our job is to figure out what it is that we have that we can
- 50:43share and how we can share it, and just start somewhere and start sharing
- 50:45it, because there's somebody out of these how many billion people you said,
- 50:49Kimbell, we gonna out of these three billion people, somebody if it ain't
- 50:54but once somebody is looking for you, somebody is looking for you, even
- 51:00if it's one hundred people, even if it's fifty people, you gotta start.
- 51:04You have to start. You have to start somewhere where Yeah, start
- 51:06somewhere. So we have to we have to be in the mindset that everybody
- 51:08matters. Listen, but somebody somebody, like everybody matters, and the people
- 51:15that matter to your community are being disserviced because you can't get out your own
- 51:20way. I'm talking to me, you're talking to me. You can't get
- 51:27out of your own way enough to to do that. Like, I've had
- 51:31so many people reach out to me because my nine to five y'all ain't never
- 51:35said it on here, but nine to five. You know, I'll get
- 51:38on TikTok and people are like, they'll see me in the street and it's
- 51:43like, oh, well we ain't see you, we see you on TikTok
- 51:45or how many next dancing video coming out? Well I started that because my
- 51:52community inside of my my job needed that. And now I got a community
- 51:58that don't care if we do that or that. You're right, you know
- 52:00what I'm saying, Like my people, so I ooh, this is so
- 52:01good. So now I am I willing enough and open enough to adjust with
- 52:09the community, and I have to meet the reason why I even started doing
- 52:14in the first place. So yeah, I can still cont to create and
- 52:17do all this stuff like that, but I'm gonna be mismanaging my inside assignment
- 52:25by forcing them to do something that was only a season. So now,
- 52:30you, as a country creator, you gotta know what works for you in
- 52:34the timing it works for you, you'll have a consistent cord. Like my
- 52:36consistent cord is like creating a safe space anywhere anywhere I go. Anything I
- 52:42do, whether I'm dancing, whether I'm talking, whether I'm preaching, praying,
- 52:45profit sign whether I'm podcasting, whether I'm having fellowship, whatever I'm doing,
- 52:50my core is creating a safe space and I can build off that.
- 52:54So that's why if you saw me one day get on Live and start cooking
- 53:00and I'm just cooking and talking, I'm creating the safe space. That's my
- 53:02space right there, because I'm trying to figure out how to season some chicken.
- 53:07By the way, thank you TikTok, because y'all y'all been on y'all
- 53:10been on point. I made some fried chicken the other day, mad listen,
- 53:15I learn how to make corn bread on TikTok. Listen. Definitely Google,
- 53:21I'm a bit. I'm definitely a visual learner. Yeah, and I
- 53:23appreciate TikTok for teaching me how to cook come on fried chicken. Yes,
- 53:28if they did not have that the content creation, I don't think my fried
- 53:32chicken would taste as good as it does now. I like, quit me
- 53:39a freak a cute little minute. Mabe that corn bread. The girl made
- 53:45this corn bread. It was so good. I was like, and it
- 53:46was a minute fifty second. Yeah, it don't take long. And that's
- 53:50why you see everybody else. And when TikTok blew up everybody else. I
- 53:53forget the other one that's similar to TikTok that was before tiktokh bevo. No,
- 54:00I can't think of it. But anyway, vine vine that went viol
- 54:04The vine was vine was just more like it wasn't like learning videos. But
- 54:10I can't think of the other one before the it was before the pandemic.
- 54:15But TikTok blew up as far as like Facebook and Instagram follow up behind with
- 54:20reels because of TikTok. Yeah, because everybody was supposing these long videos,
- 54:23and I tend to spend so little now because of these these phones. But
- 54:29if I see somehow, I'd be like, how long is that? My
- 54:37videos that do the best are a mini and thirty seconds or less, like
- 54:42if I'm I cannot talk longer than that. If I talk longer than that,
- 54:45then hey. But YouTube is the best for people who want to sit
- 54:51down because now we can put YouTube on our TV and all that you guys
- 54:53said the computer to do it. They're posturing themselves and then when you're on
- 54:58when you're on your phone, you're not trying to really watch anything. But
- 55:00if I, IF I That's why YouTube is a special another level of content
- 55:07creation, because people postured, Like if I'm trying to find out how to
- 55:12do something, I'm not trying to watch. It depends on what it is.
- 55:15But I'm not trying to watch a whole bunch of things, you know
- 55:15what I'm saying, like a whole bunch of time because I'm trying to figure
- 55:17out obviously straight to the point, what I'm trying to do. But if
- 55:22i'm you know, that's why a lot of these churches are doing very well
- 55:25with their online Ministry's example, because it's giving people an option to gather in
- 55:37a different in a different way, and then they can expose themselves on this
- 55:40platform that's free to sign up. Hey, you guys, it's free to
- 55:44sign up to you too. It is free to sign up. And it's
- 55:49not just blessing the church, but it's blessing the global, the the world.
- 55:55Demand Tom. Yesterday they gave me a word. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 56:00I'm gonna shout out to Tom. And man, he did a number on
- 56:07me. Y'all. I am going to post my my experience with my my
- 56:15my folks this weekend. But and y'all gonna see this probably Yeah, y'all
- 56:20gonna see this soon. But y'all this, this man said, asked about
- 56:25what I did, and I told him I brought up the podcast as well,
- 56:29and he was like, do you know even if you just reach one
- 56:31person, that that that makes you great because you put it on the world
- 56:37wide Will. Like he was just like, you know, you position yourself
- 56:43to put people to see you on the world Wide Will. So when people
- 56:47people like I want to be global, post it on YouTube. You go
- 56:52global when you post, you go global. When you do things do things
- 56:58out of your comfort zone. You go global when you make the decision that
- 57:01fear is not my future. You're talking to me right now, you go
- 57:07global because and it's and whose definition of success? Who's the definition of the
- 57:13six? Are you trying to answer? Right? And it's something like so,
- 57:16now you got to ask yourself. Why am I holding myself back?
- 57:20Why can't I do the content creation? Why can I expose myself on this
- 57:23level? Okay, if you need some uh, you need time be compression.
- 57:27I get that. But every season is not a season of healing whol
- 57:37You don't even want every season to be you don't because healing is hard,
- 57:39it is, healing is a whole process. Every season is not a season
- 57:44of healing. Okay, Once I'm heal from that, and now I got
- 57:47the regulation, Now I help. How do I help? You're talking to
- 57:53me? That's why I yeah, like how do I help? And so
- 57:58now what's important in it? And poured into me? And now that I'm
- 58:00in a stable ground, you know what I'm saying. Now God has covered
- 58:04me. Now it's time for me to uncover where he's you know, unveil
- 58:07what he's doing, you know, to rip me out the plastic because new
- 58:14y'all, and it was DESI face. She said, I mean, I
- 58:22mean I am praying heaven down. I asked the Lord. I said,
- 58:25Lord, please, even things moments like that, you take moments that are
- 58:30funny, you know, funny like that like if y'all haven't seen y'all gotta
- 58:34watch it. Oh my god, my Instagram. Maybe I'm praying hiven down
- 58:37and the Lord gives me rip me out the plastic because I'm acting brand new
- 58:43to prophesy while I'm praying. I'm like, I can see your mind shift.
- 58:47That's the funny part, because you know it like it's like you weren't
- 58:51trying to be funny. You ain't trying to put put a popular song out
- 58:53put a popular song during he said please please, I said, are you
- 59:04the Lord say rip me out the plastic because I'm acting brand new? That's
- 59:08where you goes. I'm like, I'm like so far. I was like,
- 59:16even if the Lord say I'm ripping you into your I was like,
- 59:22I said, please, you have to. And then Mary Anne bless God
- 59:25from marya me save me. Oh she is she saves me? She said,
- 59:31she said, I got, I got what you were saying. She
- 59:34was just calm, but that des a way. She said, I know
- 59:36you just said what I was so embarrassed. I was like, that's why
- 59:40you gotta just do the phrase, because you gotta do what you got meet
- 59:44people where you are. You want to make people comfortable. Yeah, you
- 59:46know what I'm saying, Like, that's why I love you, just because
- 59:50I'm always timid. You just don't know what she's gonna say. It's the
- 59:53same way. Katie's better because Katie sometimes I tell her kids you're talking about
- 59:58Oh yeah, sorry, my children. Katie is my oldest and I called
- 1:00:00shady Katy because Katy she will throw shade a little bit. She she gonna
- 1:00:05ask you a question, but like she's intentional with everything she says. I
- 1:00:09don't care what nobody to say, y'all. Don't let her fool y'all.
- 1:00:12They keep a little sweet face a little for y'all because she asked your question.
- 1:00:15It's intention But Jessica and Core are so similar because when they say stuff,
- 1:00:21it's really a question, you know what I mean, Like you have
- 1:00:23to when they say stuff, I ain't gonna say there's no intention behind it,
- 1:00:29but they not trying to be shady, or they're not trying to put
- 1:00:31you down. It's a real question, or what they're saying is really how
- 1:00:35they feel. It's not you. They're not trying to shift the move.
- 1:00:38But you have to be timid because it's like it's out there. It's gonna
- 1:00:43punch you in the face. She embarrass me on on one of these holidays.
- 1:00:47But we're not gonna go there. She that that little girl embarras me
- 1:00:52so bad. I was Jesus of the Lord, the Jesus of the Lord.
- 1:00:55Oh she prays for me, She said, the Jesus of the Lord,
- 1:00:59the Jesus the Lord, Jesus of the Lord. I said, well,
- 1:01:01hallelujah, my baby love you know, she just love you. She
- 1:01:07said t J. She called my children call her t J. And she
- 1:01:10said that t J was her godmother because she praised for her, even though
- 1:01:15my sister's not her god. I don't believe in making family members of god
- 1:01:16parents and like their family members already. But she just was like, I'll
- 1:01:22take that. But she said, no, teacher, she said t J
- 1:01:23is my godmother. She praised for me. I said, well, she
- 1:01:25can be your god. And we learned how to shout she how obsessed with
- 1:01:30you. She's gonna be my praying child. Train up a child so they
- 1:01:37can what gud stop doing that, I'll be missing up the words I thought
- 1:01:40desiert was the way they can go. Yeah, that's it. Having I'm
- 1:01:50not differend she be around so many church people. I'm not their friends.
- 1:01:52But you know what, what I'm coming into, even like even in the
- 1:01:57last week or so, it's just trying to girl, please, I'm coming
- 1:02:12to the realization that a lot of things. Reason is why I've held myself
- 1:02:15back is because the imagination that I had of people, how people would receive
- 1:02:19me. Mm hmm. That's real. Like I I had some experiences that
- 1:02:30I've forgiven in, but I haven't over I hadn't overcome them because I can
- 1:02:35see. I can see that I had to overcome them because of what I
- 1:02:37don't do. So now, so a lack of response is still a response.
- 1:02:43This is so good to me. A lack of a response is still
- 1:02:46a response. And so what I mean by that is if there is something
- 1:02:51that I'm supposed to be doing and I don't do it, I'm responding.
- 1:02:54I'm responding with lack Yeah, my response is black girl, And so now
- 1:03:02I have to which is a seed? Right, So now I gotta uproot
- 1:03:07this thing because it's not that I don't want to content create. It's not
- 1:03:12that I don't want to Like I have messages in my head every day.
- 1:03:15I think every day I gotta miss kill gonna get it, Killna gonna get
- 1:03:20it or desiraate gonna I. I told them both of y'all every day.
- 1:03:27I have so much in me and just go back with your lazy thing.
- 1:03:31Sometimes I overthink about how the how it's gonna be, you know, perceived
- 1:03:37and all that stuff like that, and I'm like, you know, I
- 1:03:40gotta get out of my own way by releasing the thoughts of people that won't
- 1:03:46even support me in the first place. In the oh, I did pause
- 1:03:53on that, like why does that matter? Am my showing up? First
- 1:03:58of all? I'm showing up for me? Right? So now we got
- 1:04:00that part over it. I've called to what a community so that the day
- 1:04:05how can they run when I'm not When I'm not I'm not showing up.
- 1:04:11They can't go nowhere because the person the people that I'm called to are still
- 1:04:17like what is this? Like what is it? Why why why can't I
- 1:04:24Yeah, why is there no consistency here? You know what I'm saying?
- 1:04:28Oh, it's because the folks that's not supporting anyway got something to say that
- 1:04:30part. You're not even supporting anyway. You need like e shit follow up.
- 1:04:36But you watch me, don't You'll have to get them people. This
- 1:04:40is so weird to me because I am a when I say I am a
- 1:04:44supporter of people like I might. I might not physically buy from you,
- 1:04:48I might not sit in your chair. I might. But when I say
- 1:04:51if I see something, especially people whom small business owners, if I see
- 1:04:55something, I'm gonna share it, I'm gonna love it, I'm a comment.
- 1:04:58That's just me. Everybody's not like that. I get it. Some
- 1:05:00people are watchers. But to watch it come up to me and say,
- 1:05:02yeah, I saw such and such, you did this, and then third
- 1:05:05and you didn't even click it. You ain't say him, he goes a
- 1:05:10little, he gonna shall this in the third. I think it's weird to
- 1:05:14just watch people. It's weird, Like that's the right, you'll be having
- 1:05:16some pretty pictures pretty and for me to just come up through you to that
- 1:05:20girl you posting pictures. But you even like kend your friends with me.
- 1:05:23Only had to go check you cause you're watching me. You ain't even interact.
- 1:05:29That's so weird, just unfollowing me to me like, I don't know.
- 1:05:31That's why I got my new Facebook page. Most of the people on
- 1:05:34there, I have some people and I don't see from but I think they're
- 1:05:38just not active on Facebook. But I created my new Facebook page because if
- 1:05:44I'm not interacting with you, and you're not interacting, it's different from my
- 1:05:46business page. But I'm not interacting with you, what's the point of following
- 1:05:50me. That's weird. Yeah, and them folks was reaching out to you
- 1:05:55on that page about your business, and you told them five times y'all on
- 1:05:58that part. I gonna say, look, I'm looking at dead at you
- 1:06:01start listening. Mm hmm. They're gonna get mad at me this time.
- 1:06:04If I am somewhere mm hm, just like last night we went to the
- 1:06:13perfect No, we had an amazing time. Amazing. If I'm somewhere enjoying
- 1:06:17my time and you asked me by hair, it's all right, I'm gonna
- 1:06:24stop you where you are and I'm gonna give you my my website I'm gonna
- 1:06:28give you my Facebook Instagram. That should be the end of the conversation.
- 1:06:33The end. That should be the end of the conversation. I'm telling y'all
- 1:06:40this because I used to be and I'm getting I'm still getting over this to
- 1:06:45create boundaries with people. Yeah, because even though I love doing hair,
- 1:06:49even though I love doing content to a certain extent, that's not what I'm
- 1:06:54all about. That's not what I want to talk about, y'all. Look
- 1:06:57at what especially people in the service industry, I will say that are people
- 1:07:00who work for themselves, have their own businesses. All that, y'all don't
- 1:07:03look at it as a job. Right. So if y'all see people you
- 1:07:10work for for for a cable company, or you work for Social Security,
- 1:07:14you work for, are you gonna communicate with them? When you clocked out?
- 1:07:20People you ain't answered the phone on Sunday at two pm. I wasn't
- 1:07:25working, ma'am. I'm not my hours. I will return them calls on
- 1:07:28Monday. I sat. When I tell you, I started setting bounds with
- 1:07:31myself. I'm so free even online. Danyelle's good with message. I don't
- 1:07:35want to see my phone. I don't look at kiml' dredheads. Half of
- 1:07:39the time. If I'm off work, stuff, no catches pop up.
- 1:07:44I don't look at it. But you just gotta try and learn that.
- 1:07:46You gotta train people. The reason why folks don't go to Chick fil A
- 1:07:49on Sundays because they close if you don't set them boundaries. I wanted the
- 1:07:57grill. I was craving Chick fil Man. I was like, I'm not
- 1:08:01tomorrow now, I'm not have to plan for it. Planning for it,
- 1:08:05so you create this space. I can't be mad that people blowing up my
- 1:08:08phone during this time if I didn't tell them, don't call me during this
- 1:08:11time. And it's not that I don't that I dislike my business or I'm
- 1:08:15not trying to pull my business or put myself out there. It's the time
- 1:08:18and a place for everything. Cause don't come to me while I'm enjoying a
- 1:08:26drink at the bar about Kendill Dread. I've been the family functions, y'all.
- 1:08:30I have been to family functions random people that I don't even know,
- 1:08:35And hey, so my hell, you see this, rm ma'am. I'm
- 1:08:40eating a rib. I got a whole rib in my mouth and you asking
- 1:08:45me about your hair right now, and you know you can reach out to
- 1:08:47me online. I ain't hurt nothing, nothing. But you think that's a
- 1:08:51conversation. Start Just don't say no to men at all. Just say hey,
- 1:08:55I see what you're doing. I'm gonna reach out to you on social
- 1:08:58media. But these same people don't watch It's disarray, they don't book.
- 1:09:02But these same the same people before Kim's dred Heads got the platform that it
- 1:09:06did, these people would not share my stuff. These people would not uh
- 1:09:14uh sit in my chair. They didn't see the dream. They didn't see
- 1:09:17the vision until I started getting popular. And it wasn't even from the people
- 1:09:23in my own city. It wasn't even from the people. These folks that
- 1:09:27made me Kimda's dread Heads. And I'll say popular because some people don't know
- 1:09:30who I am, but popular amongst my community because I reached I reached over
- 1:09:34a million people from my counting and that's when they was like, oh girl,
- 1:09:40yeah girl, you got a million followers. Everybody. I'm like,
- 1:09:42huh, I didn't even know you like kindl Dreadheads page that I want to
- 1:09:46tell y'all, that's that's that's gonna be my that's my battle right there,
- 1:09:49because you see what's going on. And I told you what was going on.
- 1:09:53That the way I feel because when I was doing what I was doing,
- 1:09:57then you wasn't stunning me. But now that's all you want to talk
- 1:10:00about, ma'am. I do not care about your hair right now, sir.
- 1:10:04So to putting those boundaries protect everybody put and you just gotta be okay
- 1:10:10with having those boundariesh and I don't think that both of us can share this
- 1:10:14moment. Both of us had to learn how to create boundaries and what boundaries
- 1:10:18were. It wasn't saying no, it was just saying, hey, this
- 1:10:21is how I operate him. Yeah, all right, That's why I say
- 1:10:25it's hours of operation. This is this is what makes my life successful.
- 1:10:30Hours operation where I can be where I can have the mom had ours operation
- 1:10:34where I can be an entrepreneur. Ours operation where I can preach, heave
- 1:10:39and down. Hours operation where I can intercede for you. Ours operation where
- 1:10:43I can be doing hair, doing nails, with makeup, taking a picture.
- 1:10:46I got hours of operations for that. And when you don't understand the
- 1:10:50time, whoa come on, my god, When you don't understand the time.
- 1:10:57You end up frustrating yourself because you're out of time when I've told you
- 1:11:02my hours of operation. And so now you're making me jeopardize something I said
- 1:11:09I wasn't gonna do for myself and so now and I don't think this is
- 1:11:14a rent for anybody to think this rent. May hear this or whatever.
- 1:11:16Go talk to your mama, please, you said what, Yeah, like
- 1:11:23I lose, Go talk to please, Go talk to somebody else about it.
- 1:11:26It's just we can't. As coach j C. Coach j D said
- 1:11:31the other day on the podcast, is that he's learning the positive and the
- 1:11:36negative and how they work together. That makes the battery that makes a full
- 1:11:43a full charge that makes things go right. And so you're not gonna have
- 1:11:47all the positives with content creation. It's not literally gold. That's why I
- 1:11:51don't follow nobody. They only have sunrises in their pictures and stuff like.
- 1:11:55I don't like that. I want to see the good. You know what
- 1:11:58I'm saying, Give me some mixture. You gonna see me crying, You're
- 1:12:00gonna see you gonna You know what I'm saying, y'all seen me cry,
- 1:12:03y'all you know what I'm saying, y'all heard some things, but then in
- 1:12:08the same podcast, y'all gonna hear a word like no, I'm struggling with
- 1:12:13my body struggling with I'm struggling y'all were a word. And so I think
- 1:12:15balance is important, and so this conversation was so good. Yeah. I
- 1:12:21didn't even think we were gonna talk about content creation today, but it's right
- 1:12:25on time. Yeah, we did start with usher. Usher. Mister Raymond,
- 1:12:31this is for you, if you see it in your heart to come
- 1:12:36sit on just as the podcast I see next to you, I create a
- 1:12:44safe space for your brother because you were like literally the first secular artist that
- 1:12:48be and my sister were introduced to and able to listen to. So it
- 1:12:51was like, yeah, oh, funny story, and I'm in this.
- 1:13:03So Karen remember she had went to the mall that day and we spent the
- 1:13:09night house and she was like, Oh, I saw Usher. This is
- 1:13:12how churchy I am. I thought she was talking about like an usher like
- 1:13:16at church. I really did, jenuinely. I was like, why she's
- 1:13:23so excited about seeing ushers? I see ushers awareness creation church. I'm so
- 1:13:33church church her whole life. I meant that, and then like when I
- 1:13:38got older, I realized I was like, oh, she was talking about
- 1:13:41usher Rain. I think I comprehended that I need I was in the church.
- 1:13:47That's why that's why coach told me to say Jesus she just y'all,
- 1:13:54We're probably gonna continue to have fun after this. Thank you so much for
