- 2:58of your boss I'm ready do okay, now here's layah. The man and
- 3:04car rides up. The two cooks get out of the car, walk into
- 3:07Ryan Coll's jewelry store. It goes straight through the store to the office is
- 3:10in the back. The camera will fuddle them as they go, not taking
- 3:15any sound down out of me done and live there. As the crooks come
- 3:19out of the store and can I'll get into the car and drive up the
- 3:21street. Sound cooking camera will fuddle them for some other shots later. It's
- 3:24not clear. You know, you know what you did? I know why
- 3:28stand by putting can see that natural, please, and don't look at the
- 3:31camera. Here comes the man in the car hundred goes. Now all right,
- 3:40you two cooks, look around. I walk into the store. Don't
- 3:46hurry. Oh, straight down the main aisle of the rear. That said
- 3:52I went to the office. You know what to do there? All right?
- 3:55Now, stand back, don't shot. Take it easy within to blend.
- 4:00This is excitingly in part of a real moving picture. Oh, I
- 4:02don't know. It's all right if you've never done it before. Have you
- 4:05ever been in a picture before? Have I been in a picture? Have
- 4:10I been in a picture? That's what I said? Have you you know
- 4:14this ain't a bad way to meet chim books just turning around watching some other
- 4:17guys work. But you've never been in a picture. Pay those pistol shots
- 4:21come on? All that said done? Those were part of the moment picture,
- 4:25remember, yeah, yeah, I just wanted to find out what you're
- 4:29doing, you you kid. Look when I was out in Hollywood, I
- 4:32who saw in crowding back? Now all right you nobody's trying to stop you.
- 4:42I'll get in your car and drive. Walk down the street. Holly
- 4:46over the other seat. I got going. We'll be right behind you.
- 4:50You all back the crowd until we get well out of the street and let
- 4:54them go. You'll got your shacks and headquarters tonight, right, so we'll
- 5:00illness that. Yeah, sure, wish I could make ten by what is
- 5:04it, lady cat? You've been murdered. They shut it down? Love
- 5:10is easy, lady, he did this? I tell you shut for the
- 5:14head. It's really dead. Mister Gotty, you gotta do something. I'm
- 5:26rolling. That's why I'm here, mister Wrangold Marry. I'm amazed that at
- 5:30least one of your cops wasn't bright enough to have seen through this morny moving
- 5:32picture business. Or don't rub it in, Nick, please, my headquarters
- 5:36ever approached at all? Never the individual cops were the only ones they contacted.
- 5:41One million dollars a worth the beautiful stones they took right out of the
- 5:45mainsake and killed. And I case you don't you carry insurance and your jewels
- 5:47with Ryan gup? Sure I carry insurance, but I lose all my stocks
- 5:51dolls. Did you know about this moving picture business and events? Sure?
- 5:57I did about eleven o'clock this morning. I who said he was Fred Harland,
- 6:00not the wrector for Colossal Pictures come in and asked me that they use
- 6:04my store for making a movie. Said they wanted that one story building like
- 6:09mine, not too big but important. I said, would the sign over
- 6:13the store showing the picture? And he said yes? So I told him,
- 6:15Okay, this man who said he was Harlem, have any credentials?
- 6:18Oh? Sure, sure? His papers was good Colossal Pictures, it said,
- 6:23who is here with you? At the time? There was me,
- 6:26my nephew, mister Green and my case. You what does Harlem look like?
- 6:30Well, a little bigger than me, blonde hair, good looking,
- 6:33but forty five. Maybe it was wearing sunglasses, tarleywood guns. You keep
- 6:40the safe open or clothes during the day. All this it's closed so much
- 6:43juice. It contains when these wants something to be unlock it, take on
- 6:46what you want and then click closet and lock it again. Who had the
- 6:50combination? Me, my nephew, lest In, my casha anobody else?
- 6:55Keep the burglar larm on or off during the day. Oh, this is
- 6:58han. We have a button the tine it up and began to get in.
- 7:00See why, Look the alarm is still armed. Why didn't it go
- 7:04off? And the safe was opened, the limb wasn't turned off. We
- 7:06can be sure the cash here didn't open the safe up. See huh,
- 7:12here's right. The alarm didn't work. What you got, Nick, the
- 7:14alarm wires and cut. He's taken out of it to make sure. Mistake.
- 7:17Hey, Nick, Since the safe was enforced open and the cashier didn't
- 7:23open it, that proves the crooks had the combination. Mister Ryan Gold,
- 7:27you say only the three of you with the combination, that's right, and
- 7:30one of you three helped in this robbery and the cashier is dead but lets
- 7:31him out. I should say, then you think me or Leslie, we
- 7:34should rob ourselves. Been done before. I'll come in, Come in.
- 7:40I got here as quick as I could, mister Ryan Gore. Oh you
- 7:43I'll Mickey Armduice to the store detective. What were you doing while they pulled
- 7:46off this fast job. I'm off on Monday, Starge and I worked Sundays
- 7:49as watchman and Lester takes over for me on Monday. Oh, mister Ryan
- 7:53Gold called me, so I take right down the seat. There's anything I
- 7:56could do? I don't think so. Thanks. By the way, where
- 7:58is Leicester? Since the rob away? I ain't seen him the nather.
- 8:01Let me know when it comes back, will you. I'd like to talk
- 8:03to him. Sure, shoot right there, I tell you Walter was the
- 8:05sound truck, a Colossal truck, No nigger, I noticed the team from
- 8:09the Kramer's Hound Equipment company. Why that's Traine. You think that if Colossal
- 8:13was doing the job, they furnished their own drug. Colossal had nothing to
- 8:16do with it. Nick, Wait checked that part was as holy as the
- 8:20rest of it. Maybe there ain't no Fred harmond E, isn't Nick,
- 8:24That's the odd thing about this WELDO. There is a Fred Harley. Huh.
- 8:26But there was years ago, used to be top director in the Colossal
- 8:30lot. Maybe this wasn't that hardy. That thought occurred to me too,
- 8:33Maddie. Well, we've done all we can't hear he said? There were
- 8:37no fingerprints. My men couldn't find one anywhere. No, it was a
- 8:41slick and let's go see you leader, mister Wranghold. Yes, sure,
- 8:45sure, matter y. I suggest you have some of you men check up
- 8:50on this rangeo. His nephew is Lester Green. Yeah. Also check the
- 8:52Cramer's sound Equipment people see if they can help us. Why do and I
- 8:56are going to drop in on Scubby and see what he can take up for
- 8:58us in fred Harmon right, mat be seeing it now? Mister Kramer ain't
- 9:11here now when will you be? But I know, Look, have you
- 9:16seen a fellow with brown wavy hair around here in the last couple of days?
- 9:20Bron wavy hair? Yeah? I wish my hair was wavy. I
- 9:22tried my sister's hair crow stop that ending no good? Did you see that
- 9:26guy around? Maybe I should have wore a hairnet like she does? And
- 9:31which can you answer me a plain, simple question where we'll go ahead,
- 9:35ask me a question. Look, has a guy with brown wavy hair been
- 9:39around here lately? The fellow directed the movie that's known had wavy hair,
- 9:43that's the one I mean. Have you seen him? Yeah? He was
- 9:46directing the crooks and they shot off guns and a woman came rushing out and
- 9:50yeo martyr. But she didn't fool me. I'm too smart. Yeah,
- 9:52yeah, I'll see. She said somebody had been killed, but I knew
- 9:54better. A man was killed. That's why I willed you. Euh,
- 9:58well, maybe you've never been to the movie. Say shoot a guy and
- 10:00blood buns wall down and wore down. That's only catch. Why you dumb
- 10:05half with a dope you want to hanging around? Why Len's to go home?
- 10:11I told you not to hang around the autumn. Hey you Ted Kramer?
- 10:15Yes here I am. What can I do for you? I'm maths
- 10:16and homicide. Oh you seen a man with blonde wavy hair around here racing?
- 10:20Or you must meet Fred Hallan, the movie director. Yeah that's the
- 10:24one. Yeah, sure, he was in here yesterday. I hired my
- 10:26sound truck. He tells you anything about himself. Why he said he was
- 10:30no time director. He showed me his credentials, said he was doing a
- 10:33John for a Colossal, but they weren't finishing the truck because the job was
- 10:35too small. He had to finish the camera man too. Know who he
- 10:39was? Yeah, he's a friend of mine. I recommended him, and
- 10:41Harland hired him. John Goodman too does a lot of picture worth. Uh
- 10:45what did this Harland look like? Oh? Five ten, good looking man
- 10:50of about forty five. I'd say, Oh, wore big Hollywood sunglasses.
- 10:56But it was raining yesterday. Yeah, I know, but you know these
- 10:58Hollywood That's all right. He'd tell you anything about the job he was gonna
- 11:03do. Yeah he did. He was all excited about it. He said
- 11:05he was just shooting a few scenes, but it would give him a chance
- 11:07to show that he was still a good director. He'll try to make him
- 11:09come back, he said, your truck's not back yet. No, no,
- 11:13he said he'd probably keep it all day. Well, okay, thanks
- 11:16sir, see you later. Well the yarn it is everything I can find
- 11:31in the files about Fred Harland. Thanks Gubby. He look at the bunches
- 11:35tough hees got here. That Harland must have been quite a guy. Funny
- 11:39sure was. Oh, well you take these things. Take the yep,
- 11:43I'll go through these others. Oh, here's a picture of the guy,
- 11:48nick. Let me see that's the guy. That's the lad who directed the
- 11:52movie this morning. Sure as you're a foot high. Yes, the data
- 11:56this taken fifteen years ago. No changing his lucks in fifteen years. I
- 12:03wish I could do that. Nobody can do that, scuddy. And that's
- 12:05what interesting. Yeah, he had a higher school tool to throw anything for
- 12:11publicity. Yeah. See, here's an article about him and his fingerprints through
- 12:16He didn't miss it, dick, Let me have that wall. Oh here
- 12:20the lasts Dick reports of his accident. The follow up story, accident serious,
- 12:26almost fatal. Doctor said he suddenly cracked up while he was driving,
- 12:30but over an embankment. It was badly broken up. Let me see those,
- 12:33yeah for sure? Yeah, mhm. He had broken arm, broken
- 12:39through pleasures, leg cracked, bad cuts, some head long, jagged cut
- 12:43on the right hit. Yeah, he seeing this car like that. I
- 12:52mean, Harland still hasn't. I've never seen halland I've seen that scar somewhere
- 12:58today when I'm not sure. Spent months in the California Medical Hospital under the
- 13:05cave doctor Redward and Woolfson at oscary. Yeah, that's all. He dropped
- 13:09out of sight after that. All right, thanks, That helps a lot,
- 13:11And I'll call in the office and see what's happened there. Then we
- 13:13look up Harland himself if they can find his address, and if there is
- 13:18such a prison. Hello Argent, anything new? Not much, Petsy?
- 13:33The boys, Nick Carry's office, Patsy Bourne speaking, Patsy, Nick.
- 13:39Have you heard anything from outter yet? Oh? He's right here. You
- 13:41want to talk to Nick? Oh? Thanks, Petsy? Hello, Leg
- 13:46Marry anything new? All the boys just found the Seday and the Crook's used
- 13:48about six miles out of town, near the river. The sound truck is
- 13:52in the river. They're holding out as soon as the crane gets there.
- 13:56Any boards on Ryan Gold or Lester Green yet, Yeah, we can rigging
- 13:58fast. Not that much on Ryan Gold, except that they had a stuff
- 14:01completely insure it. So evo knows a nickel, but this liffew were his.
- 14:07This mister seems to have been quite a radd in days past. Yeah,
- 14:13as a long record with the Hollywood police or nothing serious, just some
- 14:16studio draws and several arrests for reckless driving. What's this job for the studio?
- 14:22Because he was so wild? Mean he worked in the studio. Yeah,
- 14:24he was a bit actor for a while, know the movie technique,
- 14:28wouldn't he but my golly, Nick, he sure would. Has he turned
- 14:33up yet, No, he hasn't. But we got the boys watching for
- 14:35him, going out to have a look at the truck when they get it
- 14:37out of the river. I'm on my way there now. Yeah, I
- 14:41take Patsy with any William I sure what he wanted to do? Okay,
- 14:46here, Patsy, Nick, Yes, Nick fanciless, I want you to
- 14:50go with MADDI get the license number of the crook's cars so we can trace
- 14:54it. Uh huh. Get copies of any fingerprints, Matty Fines and any
- 14:56other people get bring them back to the office called doctor. Wi a fire
- 15:01here? Want to sty car holding? Nick? I'm car is not in
- 15:05just now? Who are you pleading? I'm Lester Greene Li's the green Just
- 15:11the more I want to see? Who are you? Sergeant mathieson humside?
- 15:13Girl, Oh so you're the guy? What the devil do you mean by
- 15:16telegraphing Hollywood checking up on me? We wanted to find out what kind of
- 15:20a guy you are and we did. Uh. So I get into a
- 15:22couple of James out there. What's up to you? Plenty? Right now,
- 15:26I've got the kid. I was in Hollywood six years. They go,
- 15:28I'm different. Now here's you? You got into jams out there?
- 15:31Now you're in a jam here? Who says I'm in a jam? I
- 15:33do want to punk and I know, just one little poke, mister,
- 15:37and you'll find yourself behind bars. Now then, what do you know about
- 15:41the robbery of your uncle store? The store? Yeah? Ron, yeah?
- 15:46When? Oh I suppose you don't know looking about it? No,
- 15:48I don't huh. Will then you won't mind answer a few questions for me?
- 15:52Will you go? No? Well that's better. Now I gotta go
- 15:56out to have a look at that truck. So suppose you come along with
- 15:58me. Well the way, you can tell me everything your tongue since you
- 16:03got up this morning, Nick, we must be way out in the sticks
- 16:22by now. Are you sure we're going right? That's what the cops said.
- 16:25Straight ahead to the next gas station and turn right. Maybe this is
- 16:29just we're going to as a pooney, Nick, just because Harlan gave it
- 16:33to the man who rented the Seagan from God. Don't prove he really lives
- 16:36there. He doesn't prove he doesn't do her. Oh look, there's a
- 16:42gas station. You'll be hid me one of them little one pump places.
- 16:47That must be. I hope he's got something. He said, I'm starved,
- 16:51Oh man, you are, please pull it up. Should think about
- 16:55five gallons? Okay, By the way, you're having an other man by
- 16:57the name of Fred Harland lived around here, Harlan talking. It's about half
- 17:03a mile off his float. Seen him lots of time, good looking,
- 17:07power, grown, wavy hair, about my height. Were's big sunglasses,
- 17:11Yeah, that's the badder. Does he always wear those sunglasses for sure all
- 17:15the time or once he took him off to write them. I've seen him
- 17:21had a bad pass in his left eye. Yes, he don't want nobody
- 17:25to see his blow mind anybody live up there with him or never see anybody?
- 17:30Always alone when he's coming here. You don't want anything else better at
- 17:34Okay? You about his business? Yeah, he was there a couple of
- 17:41days ago. Nor mean he wants moving. Director said he was gone to
- 17:45have chance to make a bigture and walk back against the same guy. Right
- 17:51and it is hollering. Have you seen him in the last few hours?
- 17:55No, he went out to hear this morning early. I ain't seen him.
- 18:00Why his dog is still there though I hear him basking a while back.
- 18:04I mean creator that dog Arlam told me once I better keep away from
- 18:08his place if I didn't want to get that up. I say, how
- 18:12much roll away? Six gallons gas is a dollar twenty? You're a Riot's
- 18:18all right here? You are? You got anything to eat here? I
- 18:21got some hot dogs and some candy bar hot dogs gems for me. Give
- 18:26me too. You haven't misted our cordsl on them. Put them both on.
- 18:30I ain't for s any pickle. Two give me two hot dogs,
- 18:33no muster or anything, or even a road just to plant franks too,
- 18:37without no laws, no nothing here you slain. That's right. It seems
- 18:44to me you've been crazy, but it's your pisiness. You never ate them
- 18:48things. I don't. I'm buying them for crimes. I hope he likes
- 18:52them. Nick, it's almost dark here under these trees. It's in a
- 19:07very attractive place. Hard and I must be the dog he told us about.
- 19:11Yeah, the dog. I hope you don't decide to take a bite
- 19:15down to my lady. But my plan goes right well. And this dog
- 19:18won't take a bite on of either of us. Let's say it harss home,
- 19:29no on here of the dog. I let's say if we can get
- 19:30this door open. This is easy, you know what? How I open
- 19:40the door just a crack like this and give mister Fred Harlan's dog and the
- 19:45ladies I bought one lies dog. That's you're hungry. Yeah, see how
- 19:48these tastes. You think you're going to be as powerful life because you bring
- 19:52him a little hot dogs? You're crazy? Nick, Perhaps and perhaps not
- 19:59I'm feeling tired. Okay, well I down, take a little nap.
- 20:03That's the way I close your eyes. See what you doing? Nick?
- 20:07hYP the tsing him and now waking open the door all the way and walk
- 20:11in with a holy macro. That hound is dead to the world. But
- 20:15what did you do to me? That's better than two hot dogs they brought
- 20:18up the gas station. That's all. You're needing them too, Wienis did
- 20:22that to him? These two Wii needs, Well, they had a couple
- 20:23of knockout drops in them. There'll be your monkeys who can say what with
- 20:27the planes here? This room hasn't been used recently. Try the next one.
- 20:33No, this one ain't here, just just thicker than the work,
- 20:38says the kitchen. Yeah, I use this room all right. Well miss,
- 20:44if you start hunting for clues in this place, you got yourself an
- 20:47all night job and I can't spend that much time on it. Well,
- 20:49let's have a look upstairs. Yeah you know that. They at the gas
- 20:53station said, he's never spent much time here, but maybe he just lived
- 20:56in one room in the kitchen. I think you're right, yes, And
- 21:03this is undoubtedly the room he used when he was here. Do you suppose
- 21:06the crooks talked Harlowing into a deal and then then boot them off when they
- 21:08were through with them? Although the fact that the man who ran this year
- 21:11looked like the Harland of fifteen years ago leads me to believe that there's been
- 21:15an impersonation. Yeah, but ooh impersonated who That's what I'm trying to find
- 21:19out. Now, first, let's pick out some good fingerprints should be plenty
- 21:25of under this dressing table. Yeah, yeah, yeah, left them off
- 21:30with the piles. You mean they assured me the other night. Yes,
- 21:34you're the close god stake. Yo. Did you notice all the make up
- 21:38he's got here? Yes? And there's several fixures here that looked like those
- 21:42taking fifteen years ago, you know, Yeah, looks as if they'd been
- 21:47used as models from making up here. What's this hair? Blonde, wavy
- 21:56hair? Hey, that's what we're looking for. Yes, we're getting somewhere.
- 22:03While all these hairs didn't come out of the head, they came up
- 22:07a wig off in a wig how do you know, have no roots on
- 22:10them? Maybe a wig? Uh? Oh? I know that was an
- 22:14impersonation? Oh, nick, Nick, just happen to see this here in
- 22:18the waste basket. What is it? It's a piece of ramping papers from
- 22:22rain Gold's jewelry to it. Why do you see what it says on it?
- 22:26Here is to be card for Yes, look at the name of the
- 22:30one who was to do the calling. Yeah. Well, well what's the
- 22:34connection between him and Holland? Nick? A very strong one. I believe
- 22:37he got any ideas I have. Right now, we're going back to the
- 22:41office together up with los Antwick cam and you're gonna bring Holland's dog along with
- 22:45you? Bring the dog? Are you crazy? Nick? Maybe I am?
- 22:48I bring him along? Got the same And when they hauled the truck
- 23:00up out of delivered, they found this megaphone in it and it has fingerprints
- 23:03on it. You mean the water didn't wash him off? Water doesn't hurt
- 23:07Prince Waldo Patsy. Did you get a picture of them? Uh? Huh?
- 23:10Sergian Madison gave me one here. Why did I put that news picture
- 23:15as here? It is? Ah, the prince and the megaphone matched the
- 23:23picture of Harland's prince exactly? Didn't pray Gully naked? Was the original Holland?
- 23:29Who did the job? Is that good of badness, anything that helped
- 23:33solve the case. It's good fancy and if Holland himself did it, it's
- 23:36certainly one step near the end. Nick Carter's office, Patty Dawn stinking,
- 23:41Oh he is, that's anotherment place I put mister Carter on and niggas doctor
- 23:45Wilson of the California Hospital. He's the one who treated Holland after his accident.
- 23:49Oh, yes, all right, it isn't yes, uh huh,
- 23:56I see, wouldn't the recognized him? Huh? As course, But doctor,
- 24:03do you know where he went after he left the hospital? Oh?
- 24:07He did? I see. Well, thanks very much, doctor for taking
- 24:14the time to call me like this. I really appreciate it. Good bye,
- 24:18well me. Just as we suspect him, Hardam left the hospital.
- 24:21Would have been difficult for even his old friends to have recognized him. Badly
- 24:23cut about the head and it lost over fifty pounds. Doctor Wilson said he
- 24:26was in pretty bad shape, and he came back here and lived. Nick
- 24:30Nika, I'm getting all balled up here. If Harland actually is horran,
- 24:37he couldn't look the way he did fifteen years ago before the accident. But
- 24:40if he does look the way he did them. He can't really be harleaned.
- 24:44Which it is, old boy? You are kaying of that punt as
- 24:48he called Mary, and tell him to meet us a grand ghost store while
- 24:51you have the dog. He's too sleeping glory by. He's a means un
- 24:55of a good that one. Okay, put him on your arm and let's
- 24:56go. Put him in your armond that's going. It's all I can do
- 25:00to lift the brute on the pool. Nah, don't cry for those,
- 25:04Just be glad. It isn't a great day a great aw nuts, Come
- 25:10on you, Hi'm ready earnt it brought Leicester too well? Excellent? Yeah,
- 25:25I thought we might as well all be here for the fireworks. Tell
- 25:27mister Gobby you got news, cruck, Yes I have, mister Rangold,
- 25:32I have news the solution of the case in the name of the murderer.
- 25:34You hear that, Mickey. That's the kind of a detective. Year should
- 25:37be the way you should catch more people stealing in my store. Maybe what
- 25:41you do it, mister curler. I don't mind learning something when I can.
- 25:45I studied the facts and found out more facts. I discovered that this
- 25:48robbery today was the result of years probably it's careful planning. I'm leaving a
- 25:52double life, the killer being himself half the time, and somebody else to
- 25:56that. I learned that a man was so badly broken through a nervous collapse
- 26:00and an automobile erected his own friends wouldn't have known him. And he traded
- 26:04on that fact, got himself a job of trust and confidence. In fact,
- 26:07he became an employee of a jewelry store. It was a store detective.
- 26:14Well, what do you know about halting? And I'm insinuating nothing.
- 26:18I'm giving facts. You got yourself this job here, Watston schemed and planned
- 26:22it. When you were ready to pull this pony movie, sat up and
- 26:25robbed the safe. That's hard to believe, Nick, he got crew wall.
- 26:29That a dog again? Okay, glad, I underdoy it. Hey,
- 26:33what's all this? Nick? While the door guy, that dog belongs
- 26:37to Holland he also belongs to Mickey, as you can say by the way
- 26:40he reached him. For a while I thought somebody impersonating Harland on this robbery,
- 26:44but I finally realized that the man who impersonated Harland was Harland himself,
- 26:48now known as Mickey Andresser. You got not forked in a dog with the
- 26:52cat I had. When Mary takes Mickey's fingerprints, you'll find that they met
- 26:57the Prince of Harlem's I found in a new newspapers and that's the Prince Tom
- 27:02of the megaphone the Pony movie director used, And you find Mickey knew the
- 27:04combination of the safe. Also, it took time to get it, but
- 27:08he was in no hurry. I was here in the store Sunday watching he
- 27:12cut the burglar alarm wires as a safety precaution, and he wore the dark
- 27:15glasses while he was playing Pilon to conceal the cast in his eye, which,
- 27:19as Mickey, is so plainly evident. Well, Nckey, am I
- 27:23right? Yes, carry, You're right not. My plan was full cooped
- 27:27by impersonating myself as I looked fifteen years ago. I'd throw you all off
- 27:32the track. Night, George, Mickey, your fun there, night,
- 27:34Jos. Why do you never see them? Why Pals would take count me
- 27:37when the time comes, He'll work with you. Mickey. You don't really
- 27:41expect me to tell you that, do you, there? Palms of mine,
- 27:42I'm gonna need friends before us is off. You don't have to tell
- 27:45us who they are, Mickey, we'll find them without your health. As
- 27:48a movie director, you should know better than to take moving pictures of your
- 27:52pals and then not destroy the film. That's the best evidence in the world.
- 27:53The camera was on the soundtrack when the drove it into the ruder.
- 27:56It was but it just happens that the camera was Border's hype. And the
- 28:00film is still good being developed right now, and when we get to look
- 28:03at it, they'll be able to pick up your pells and recover all of
- 28:06Brian Gil's jewelry. The movie you were making may have been a phony,
- 28:08but the film you took was real, and your conviction is going to be
- 28:11real too. It can depend on that. Well. Nick, Before you
- 28:22give us a peak and your story for next week, I want to talk
- 28:26for a moments of young men of America. You know it is no longer
- 28:29true, if it ever was, that men join the army only if they
- 28:33can't get jobs anywhere else, or if they're not fitted for some other job,
- 28:37or if they're too lazy to look for one. The new American Army
- 28:40of today is a compact, carefully chosen group of skilled technicians with brains and
- 28:45ability. Young men seeking to enter the Army today must be able to understand
- 28:49and profit by technical training that is second to none. The skills that the
- 28:53men in the New American Army acquire, no matter what branch of the service
- 28:57they may be in equals and often exceeds, that demanded by many of the
- 29:03best paid civilian trades. You can do no better for yourself and your country
- 29:07than to join the New American Army and become an informed technician in at least
- 29:11one of the many specialized fields offered. Excellent advice can relate? What about
- 29:18your story? Next week? Well, next week can I'm going to tell
- 29:19you about an adventure I had recently when an explosion of unknown origin burned down
- 29:25a warehouse, an alarm clock missing from an expligious trainer prew that the fire
- 29:29was intenduary and a bit of green plant and a crow bar led us directly
- 29:33to the firebug himself, who wasn't the firebug at all, but a crook
- 29:37who wanted to get rid of some very interminating evity. What do you call
- 29:40it? Story? Nick? I got it The Case of the Missing Alarm
- 29:42Clock. Nick Connor Master Detective, which is produced and directed by Jock McGregor

- 30:45This is Ken Paul saying so long until next week. This program was hitting
- 31:03Canada through the facilities of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporations. This is an usual broadcasting
- 31:10system, welcome back. I don't know if I recall a single episode where
- 31:19they had so many characters doing dialects varying degrees of quality. The one thing
- 31:27that does stand out, and I think it does separate some of the New
- 31:32York versus Hollywood productions particularly when you get to this post war era. Is
- 31:38when it came to their foreign accents. The Hollywood productions I think generally had
- 31:45a more realistic accent, while in New York a lot of the dialects and
- 31:52accents really sounded like came off the vaudeville stage in the nineteen twenty and thirties.
- 32:00Even at this point. As for the mystery itself, I thought it
- 32:04was interesting. I think Nick Carter usually sends us around in circles for the
- 32:09solution. The idea of a man impersonating himself was not something I would have
- 32:15thought of, So kudos on the good mystery plot there. All right,
- 32:21Well on to some listener comments and feedback. We start with John, who
- 32:25says, thank you for broadcasting all the old time radio shows. I listen
- 32:30to them every night before bed. The commentary before and after the shows are
- 32:34also informative. Thank you for your time you put into doing these shows.
- 32:38Thank you, John, and I really appreciate you writing in to me.
- 32:43That'll actually do it for today. We will be back tomorrow with yours truly,
- 32:46Johnny Doller, and next Thursday join us for another episode of Nick Carter.
