- 0:48One, and welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin. This is Angel Santana Jr.
- 0:53Thank you for joining us in our journey. Welcome back to the series,
- 0:57Slow Down, Finding God in the World That Never Stops. This is Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 1:04We are up to episode eight. My goodness. We have three to go.
- 1:09Choose peace over being right.
- 1:12That's today's episode. So we begin with the question.
- 1:16Today's question may be one of the hardest we've asked yet. Have you ever found
- 1:20yourself in an argument, and instead of trying to understand the other person,
- 1:25you are simply trying to win?
- 1:27We've all been there, whether it's a spouse, a friend, a co-worker,
- 1:32an in-law, or even a stranger on social media.
- 1:35Sometimes we believe and we become so focused on being right that we lose our peace.
- 1:42Today, let's discover what God's word says about choosing peace over pride.
- 1:48So, let's slow down and open God's word together.
- 1:52Biblical perspective. Our primary scripture comes from Romans 12, verse 18.
- 1:59The word of the Lord. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you,
- 2:04live at peace with everyone. Praise be to God.
- 2:08Notice Paul doesn't say peace will always be possible. Not everyone will agree
- 2:13with us. Not every conflict can be resolved.
- 2:17But he reminds us that our responsibility is to do our part.
- 2:22Our supporting scripture comes from Philippians 2, verses 3-4.
- 2:27Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
- 2:32Rather than in humility, value others above yourselves.
- 2:37Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interest of others.
- 2:43Humility doesn't mean thinking less of yourself. It means thinking of yourself less.
- 2:49Jesus demonstrated this perfectly. When he stood before Pilate,
- 2:54he didn't argue to protect his pride.
- 2:57When he was insulted, he didn't respond with insults.
- 3:01When he was falsely accused, he remained faithful to the Father's will.
- 3:07Jesus proved that true strength isn't found in winning every argument.
- 3:12Is found in remaining faithful, even when it's difficult.
- 3:16We live in a culture that reminds us and rewards us for being louder,
- 3:21faster, more opinionated.
- 3:24Social media has made it easy to argue with people we'll never meet.
- 3:28Families become divided. Friendships are strained. Churches sometimes struggle.
- 3:34Not because we disagree, but because we've forgotten how to disagree with grace.
- 3:40Think about the last disagreement you had. Did your words build a bridge or a wall?
- 3:46Sometimes the greatest victory doesn't, well, isn't providing your point or proving your point.
- 3:54It's preserving the relationship.
- 3:57Peace doesn't mean avoiding truth.
- 4:00Jesus never compromised truth, but he always delivered truth with love.
- 4:05There's a difference between defending your faith and damaging your witness.
- 4:10Sometimes choosing peace means listening longer, speaking softer,
- 4:16apologizing first, extending forgiveness,
- 4:19or simply walking away from an argument that serves no purpose.
- 4:23So ask yourself this question.
- 4:25Will winning the argument bring
- 4:27me closer to Christ or further from the person standing in front of me?
- 4:33That question changes everything.
- 4:36Let's do a heart check. Let's pause together. Is there something you're holding bitterness toward?
- 4:42Is there a conversation you've been replaying in your mind?
- 4:45Have you been more concerned about providing or proving your point?
- 4:50Are you trying to prove your point and protect your heart?
- 4:55Invite God into your relationship or that relationship today.
- 4:59Ask God and ask him to replace pride with humility and anger with peace.
- 5:05Is your faith challenge that difficult? Because here it is.
- 5:10Today, choose one relationship where you can be a peacemaker.
- 5:15Send a text. Make a phone call. Offer an apology.
- 5:18Extend forgiveness, or simply pray for someone you've struggled with and ask
- 5:25yourself tonight, did I reflect the peace of Christ today?
- 5:29Here's today's takeaway. Winning an argument is temporary. Living in God's peace is eternal.
- 5:37Peace isn't weakness. It's courage under the control of Christ.
- 5:42The world teaches us to defend ourselves. Jesus teaches us to deny ourselves.
- 5:48When we slow down, listen well,
- 5:51and respond with grace, we become reflections of the Prince of Peace.
- 5:57May we never value being right more than being like Christ. Amen.
- 6:03Heavenly Father, thank you for being the God of peace.
- 6:07Forgive us for the times we've allowed pride, anger, or the desire to be right
- 6:12to damage our relationships.
- 6:15Teach us to respond with humility, patience, and love.
- 6:19Help us become peacemakers in our homes, workplace, churches, and communities.
- 6:25May our words reflect the grace you have shown us. May our lives point others
- 6:30to Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
- 6:34We ask this in your precious name. Amen. Before we wrap up today's episode,
