Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode we're picking up where we
• 0:06
Speaker 1: left off with the New York Times article that was
• 0:09
Speaker 1: authored by Matthew Goldstein and Sharon Otterman dealing with Karinia Shulak.
• 0:16
Speaker 1: You are the purest man. Ever since she was a child, Dr.
• 0:20
Speaker 1: Shulak wanted to be a dentist. She was inspired by
• 0:23
Speaker 1: her own family's dental problems and what she saw as
• 0:26
Speaker 1: poor dental health in Belarus. She wrote, in an admissions
• 0:29
Speaker 1: essay to dental school reviewed by the Times. She completed
• 0:33
Speaker 1: four or five years of dental school in Minsk, but
• 0:36
Speaker 1: stopped her studies to go to New York. By the
• 0:39
Speaker 1: winter of 2012, she accepted Mr. Epstein's help to get
• 0:43
Speaker 1: into dental school. After Columbia's College of Dental Medicine initially
• 0:48
Speaker 1: rejected her, Mr. Epstein asked his own dentist, Dr. Thomas J. Magnani,
• 0:54
Speaker 1: a powerful alumnus, to put him in contact with the
• 0:57
Speaker 1: dental school's dean. Mr. Epstein dangled the idea of making
• 1:02
Speaker 1: up to a $ 10 million donation. In the end, he
• 1:05
Speaker 1: would only give around $ 210, 000 to Columbia, according to an
• 1:09
Speaker 1: accounting by the university, but it was enough to grease
• 1:12
Speaker 1: the wheels. Must be nice, huh? Little Lord Fuckleroy, Epstein
• 1:17
Speaker 1: shows up with a bag of money and gets whoever
• 1:19
Speaker 1: he wants into school. The Justice Department files include a
• 1:24
Speaker 1: text message chain showing how Dr. Magnani and Dr. James Fine,
• 1:29
Speaker 1: a dental school administrator, gave Shuliac a heads up on
• 1:32
Speaker 1: topics she would encounter during an admissions exam in April
• 1:36
Speaker 1: of 2012 to test her practical skills as a transfer student.
• 1:40
Speaker 1: Neither Dr. Magnani or Dr. Fine responded to a request
• 1:44
Speaker 1: for comment. Oh, why would they? They don't have to
• 1:48
Speaker 1: explain themselves to mere peasants like us. They're fine members
• 1:52
Speaker 1: of the community. Pillars, in fact. After she passed and
• 1:58
Speaker 1: Columbia admitted her, Mr. Epstein arranged for Dr. Shulak's mother
• 2:01
Speaker 1: to visit from Belarus. He would pay her tuition for
• 2:05
Speaker 1: three years of school. You are the purest man of
• 2:08
Speaker 1: all men, Dr. Shulak wrote to him in June of 2012.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: Can you fucking imagine? Imagine the gaslighting that must have occurred.
• 2:17
Speaker 1: Or maybe not. Maybe Karinia Shulak was willing to look
• 2:21
Speaker 1: past what Epstein really was because of the benefits it
• 2:24
Speaker 1: brought her, and unfortunately there's a lot of people like that.
• 2:28
Speaker 1: How many people in this story especially? All your love
• 2:33
Speaker 1: and care, my parents, school, apartment, thank you so much
• 2:36
Speaker 1: for everything. They fought at times over his insistence on
• 2:40
Speaker 1: having sex with other women in their 20s, including with
• 2:44
Speaker 1: the small group of assistants who did chores for him,
• 2:47
Speaker 1: and whom he referred to as his family, according to emails.
• 2:51
Speaker 1: Some fucking Charles Manson type shit. That's another thing I've said.
• 2:55
Speaker 1: This dude had a cult around him. That was his goal.
• 3:00
Speaker 1: Get all those girls believing all kinds of funky shit
• 3:04
Speaker 1: and thinking that everything he was up to and the
• 3:06
Speaker 1: stuff his friends were up to was fucking normal. Meanwhile,
• 3:09
Speaker 1: it was anything but. Shit was about as normal as
• 3:13
Speaker 1: Norman Bates. I understand you need it. However, these are
• 3:19
Speaker 1: the things that don't feel natural to me. It feels
• 3:22
Speaker 1: somewhat dirty to me, she wrote to him in August
• 3:25
Speaker 1: of 2012. Nowhere in the Justice Department files that were
• 3:30
Speaker 1: reviewed by the Times does Dr. Shulak express a broader
• 3:33
Speaker 1: ethical concern about how he was treating those other women,
• 3:37
Speaker 1: many of whom would later claim to be victims of
• 3:39
Speaker 1: his abuse. Instead, she asked Mr. Epstein to keep his
• 3:43
Speaker 1: relations with those women out of sight. See no evil,
• 3:48
Speaker 1: hear no evil, speak no evil. And unfortunately, that was
• 3:52
Speaker 1: the M.O. surrounding Epstein, not just with Shuliac, but with
• 3:56
Speaker 1: most people. If that is not a lot to ask,
• 3:59
Speaker 1: please enjoy it, but keep me away from it, she wrote.
• 4:02
Speaker 1: I will stay with you no matter what, as long
• 4:04
Speaker 1: as you are happy. I love you. Getting a green card.
• 4:10
Speaker 1: By the time she applied to Columbia in 2012, Dr.
• 4:13
Speaker 1: Shuliac had overstayed the student visa she had obtained in 2010.
• 4:19
Speaker 1: In early 2013, Mr. Epstein found a solution to keep
• 4:22
Speaker 1: her in the country, the files show. Two years earlier,
• 4:26
Speaker 1: New York became one of the first states to legalize
• 4:28
Speaker 1: same-sex marriage. Mr. Epstein concluded that a marriage in New
• 4:33
Speaker 1: York between two women might be the easiest way to
• 4:36
Speaker 1: gain U.S. citizenship without raising red flags that the marriage
• 4:39
Speaker 1: was arranged solely to avoid deportation. The marriage hustle. And
• 4:46
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein was pretty good at it. And it wasn't
• 4:48
Speaker 1: just the fake marriages. There was a lot of immigration fraud.
• 4:52
Speaker 1: And my question has always been, who helped him out
• 4:55
Speaker 1: doing that? Like I said in the earlier episode, he
• 4:59
Speaker 1: didn't do it on his own. There was somebody in
• 5:01
Speaker 1: the immigration office. He had a contact, somebody. Who was it? Mr.
• 5:06
Speaker 1: Epstein chose from the ranks of his assistants a 30-year-old
• 5:09
Speaker 1: woman from Minnesota to be her spouse. Brad Edwards, the
• 5:13
Speaker 1: lawyer for the woman, said that his client was a
• 5:16
Speaker 1: victim of Mr. Epstein's and that he could not speak
• 5:19
Speaker 1: about her situation. But he said that as a general rule,
• 5:23
Speaker 1: nobody was permitted or dared to ever disobey Jeffrey Epstein.
• 5:27
Speaker 1: And you know, Brad Edwards has really turned heel here, huh?
• 5:31
Speaker 1: All of a sudden, he's defending all these women that
• 5:34
Speaker 1: for years he called co-conspirators? Pretty odd to me. And look,
• 5:38
Speaker 1: I get it, the facts change on the ground. But
• 5:41
  Speaker 1: here's a fact that's never going to change. A lot
• 5:43
Speaker 1: of those people that he's now representing... were allegedly involved
• 5:48
Speaker 1: in abusing people like Virginia. So I don't know how
• 5:51
Speaker 1: he squares that circle. The emails show that Mr. Epstein
• 5:55
Speaker 1: instructed the woman to meet Dr. Shuliac on the morning
• 5:58
Speaker 1: of September 16, 2013, at the New York City Marriage Bureau.
• 6:03
Speaker 1: She was told to have her bags packed so she
• 6:05
Speaker 1: could immediately fly to the Virgin Islands after getting the
• 6:08
Speaker 1: marriage license, while Dr. Shuliac would stay behind to attend
• 6:12
Speaker 1: her dental school classes. The women were married three weeks
• 6:15
Speaker 1: later at the office of the city clerk. Photos were
• 6:18
Speaker 1: taken of the ceremony. Yeah, they had to make it
• 6:21
Speaker 1: look legit, right? If anyone came asking questions, we have
• 6:25
Speaker 1: to have some contemporaneous evidence that this is legit, or
• 6:27
Speaker 1: at least close to being legit. After the wedding, a
• 6:31
Speaker 1: Brooklyn immigration lawyer working for Mr. Epstein submitted an immigration
• 6:35
Speaker 1: form stating that the woman wanted to list Dr. Shulak
• 6:39
Speaker 1: as her wife and beneficiary. The request was approved and
• 6:44
Speaker 1: immigration officials dismissed Dr. Shuliac's pending deportation proceedings. Months after
• 6:50
Speaker 1: the marriage, Dr. Shuliac got a green card, making her
• 6:54
Speaker 1: a lawful resident. Talk about game in the system. My
• 7:00
Speaker 1: question is how many other girls did this happen to
• 7:02
Speaker 1: that we don't know about? Girls that weren't as lucky
• 7:06
Speaker 1: as Karinia Shuliac. Outwardly, the marriage had signs of legitimacy.
• 7:12
Speaker 1: The two women shared an apartment in the Upper East
• 7:14
Speaker 1: Side building that was partly owned by Mr. Epstein's brother
• 7:17
Speaker 1: and where Mr. Epstein housed many of his assistants. They
• 7:21
Speaker 1: had a joint bank account at Deutsche Bank and went
• 7:24
Speaker 1: on trips together to London, Europe, and Japan. Yeah, accompanying Epstein.
• 7:30
Speaker 1: Doing work for Epstein. In May of 2018, she officially
• 7:35
Speaker 1: became a U.S. citizen. A year later, Dr. Shulak and
• 7:39
Speaker 1: her spouse divorced. According to a report released this year
• 7:43
Speaker 1: by Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Dr.
• 7:48
Speaker 1: Shulak's former wife claimed she had been forced into the marriage.
• 7:51
Speaker 1: The woman, in a statement to the Epstein estate, said
• 7:54
Speaker 1: she had not known that the wedding had been scheduled
• 7:57
Speaker 1: just days before Dr. Shulak's deportation hearing. The report concluded
• 8:02
Speaker 1: that the marriage may have been done to provide Dr.
• 8:04
Speaker 1: Shulak with the legal basis to continue residing in the
• 8:07
Speaker 1: United States. It didn't recommend any legal challenge to her citizenship.
• 8:12
Speaker 1: Of course not. Epstein reached out, talked to his buddies,
• 8:16
Speaker 1: and made sure everything was cool. I met Epstein's girlfriend.
• 8:21
Speaker 1: In early 2019, Dr. Shulak and Mr. Epstein seemed every
• 8:25
Speaker 1: bit the couple. She was living, most of the time,
• 8:27
Speaker 1: in his New York mansion and took along her cat, Blueberry,
• 8:31
Speaker 1: when they traveled together. She had become a licensed dentist
• 8:34
Speaker 1: in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Florida, and New Mexico, and
• 8:37
Speaker 1: after completing dental school in 2015. But there's no evidence
• 8:42
Speaker 1: that she had much of a practice, even though the
• 8:44
Speaker 1: files detail dental equipment installed at some of the residences. Instead,
• 8:49
Speaker 1: she spent much of her energy helping to manage his
• 8:52
Speaker 1: properties and staff. That was her new role. She took
• 8:55
Speaker 1: over for Sarah Kellan Vickers and Ghislaine Maxwell. That was
• 8:59
Speaker 1: the role. Now, was she setting up girls to come in?
• 9:02
Speaker 1: I don't know. We haven't seen that yet, and she
• 9:04
Speaker 1: seems a bit jealous, so probably not. But who knows?
• 9:08
Speaker 1: We have to keep going, we have to dig deeper,
• 9:10
Speaker 1: and we have to see where the evidence takes us.
• 9:14
Speaker 1: No task seemed too small. She instructed his drivers to
• 9:17
Speaker 1: keep cold Voss water in Mr. Epstein's cars, organized a
• 9:21
Speaker 1: floral installation for his Manhattan mansion, ordered a shipping container
• 9:25
Speaker 1: filled with outdoor furniture for his island, and managed repairs
• 9:29
Speaker 1: and cleaning schedules for the Upper East Side apartments that
• 9:32
Speaker 1: his brother was invested in. In mid-June 2019, The pair
• 9:37
Speaker 1: traveled to Paris, where Mr. Epstein had an apartment. On
• 9:41
Speaker 1: July 6, Mr. Epstein returned home to the United States,
• 9:45
Speaker 1: while Dr. Shulak remained in Europe. When his plane touched
• 9:48
Speaker 1: down at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, federal agents were
• 9:52
Speaker 1: waiting and arrested him. Too little, too late. Bro should
• 9:57
Speaker 1: have been arrested 20 years ago. and not just arrested,
• 10:01
Speaker 1: thrown under the prison. About a month and a half
• 10:04
Speaker 1: after his arrest, in a 20-minute phone call from jail,
• 10:07
Speaker 1: in lower Manhattan, Mr. Epstein told Dr. Shulak that the
• 10:10
Speaker 1: federal sex trafficking charges would take longer to resolve than
• 10:14
Speaker 1: he had thought. He advised her to find another place
• 10:17
Speaker 1: to stay for the time being, according to an account
• 10:20
Speaker 1: of the call provided by her lawyer to federal authorities.
• 10:23
Speaker 1: The lawyer, Maurice Sercars, said he had told her to
• 10:27
Speaker 1: be strong. The next morning, August 10th, 2019, Mr. Epstein
• 10:32
Speaker 1: was found to have died by suicide in his jail cell, allegedly.
• 10:38
Speaker 1: Now look, I am more than willing to accept that
• 10:41
Speaker 1: it was suicide, but we need more evidence. I mean,
• 10:44
Speaker 1: when you have Dr. Bodden and several other medical examiners
• 10:49
Speaker 1: calling out Barbara Sampson Hawke, for her job here, for
• 10:52
Speaker 1: what she said, what she did, I think we have
• 10:55
Speaker 1: to take note of that. And I think we should
• 10:57
Speaker 1: pay attention. Shortly before his death, Mr. Epstein amended his
• 11:02
Speaker 1: will to leave her much of the $ 600 million fortune
• 11:06
Speaker 1: that he had at the time, including the large diamond ring,
• 11:09
Speaker 1: in contemplation of marriage, according to a handwritten note on
• 11:13
Speaker 1: a related document. But how much she will actually receive
• 11:17
Speaker 1: is unclear. The estate is worth between $ 120 million and
• 11:22
Speaker 1: $ 200 million after paying out large sums to his victims,
• 11:25
Speaker 1: records show. There are dozens of beneficiaries, in addition to Dr. Shuliac,
• 11:30
Speaker 1: including Mark Epstein's children, who stand to inherit $ 10 million.
• 11:34
Speaker 1: Of course they do, and all this money is ill-gotten gains.
• 11:37
Speaker 1: The money should be seized. If it was a RICO case,
• 11:40
Speaker 1: the money would have been seized. And that's another reason
• 11:43
Speaker 1: why it's not a RICO case. People are still getting
• 11:45
Speaker 1: rich here. And when I say people, I don't mean survivors.
• 11:49
Speaker 1: And to all the jackholes out there saying, oh, it
• 11:51
Speaker 1: was a big money grab by the survivors. Well, Jeffrey
• 11:54
Speaker 1: Epstein's nieces or whatever the fuck, they're about to get
• 11:58
Speaker 1: $ 10 million. And I can assure you, none of the
• 12:01
Speaker 1: survivors got $ 10 million from Jeffrey Epstein's estate. So take
• 12:04
Speaker 1: your bitch ass narrative and shove it. Yet, despite this
• 12:09
Speaker 1: potential windfall, Dr. Shulak did not give up her desire
• 12:12
Speaker 1: to be a dentist. By 2023, she was back in
• 12:15
Speaker 1: New York applying for a postdoctoral dental program at Columbia,
• 12:20
Speaker 1: apparently to fulfill a requirement she needed to obtain a
• 12:23
Speaker 1: license to practice in the state. The same two dentists
• 12:26
Speaker 1: who helped her gain admission to Columbia in 2012 once
• 12:29
Speaker 1: again came to her assistance, according to a copy of
• 12:33
Speaker 1: her admission file reviewed by the Times. The file shows
• 12:37
Speaker 1: that Dr. Fine, the dean overseeing Columbia's postgraduate residency program,
• 12:42
Speaker 1: created a special faculty internship for her at the Midtown
• 12:45
Speaker 1: Manhattan dental practice he shared with Dr. Magnani. Both men
• 12:50
Speaker 1: gave her their highest recommendation for the program, which she
• 12:53
Speaker 1: graduated from in May of 2025, along with six other students.
• 12:57
Speaker 1: In November, she received her dental license to practice in
• 13:00
Speaker 1: New York. In the aftermath of the release of the
• 13:03
Speaker 1: Epstein files, Columbia demoted Dr. Fine and removed Dr. Magnani
• 13:08
Speaker 1: from his alumni leadership post. The men declined to comment.
• 13:12
Speaker 1: the university did not recommend any consequences for Dr. Shulak,
• 13:17
Speaker 1: who it said had met the qualifications for admission. Oh, well,
• 13:21
Speaker 1: in that case, I'm sure Jeffrey Epstein and his long
• 13:24
Speaker 1: arm had nothing to do with it. At around the
• 13:27
Speaker 1: same time she received her New York dental license, Dr.
• 13:30
  Speaker 1: Shulak entered a want ad on Indeed.com for a part-time
• 13:34
Speaker 1: job as a dentist in downtown Brooklyn, according to a
• 13:37
Speaker 1: dentist with a practice who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
• 13:41
Speaker 1: to discuss workplace issues. It was there that Yoon Han Kim,
• 13:46
Speaker 1: a patient, was treated by her twice for cleaning in
• 13:49
Speaker 1: December and a filling in February. Ms. Kim said she
• 13:53
Speaker 1: hadn't realized Dr. Shuliac's true identity until she saw photographs
• 13:57
Speaker 1: of her released with the Epstein files. Feeling duped because
• 14:01
Speaker 1: she was not informed of Dr. Shuliac's full name and
• 14:04
Speaker 1: wanting to warn other patients, she reached out to the Times. Hey,
• 14:08
Speaker 1: I get it, man. I don't want one of Jeffrey
• 14:10
Speaker 1: Epstein's Manson family people digging around in my mouth either.
• 14:14
Speaker 1: I was so upset, Ms. Kim said. I just couldn't
• 14:19
Speaker 1: believe it. Of all the things that happened to me,
• 14:21
Speaker 1: I didn't win the lottery. I met Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend. Dr.
• 14:25
Speaker 1: Shuliac's last day working at the Brooklyn office was February 12th.
• 14:29
Speaker 1: She was supposed to work on February 16th, but called
• 14:33
Speaker 1: in sick and never returned. The notoriety from the files
• 14:37
Speaker 1: probably made it difficult for her to keep working there.
• 14:40
Speaker 1: the dentist at the practice said. Dr. Shuliac's lawyer declined
• 14:43
Speaker 1: to say whether she had gotten another dental job. And unfortunately,
• 14:47
Speaker 1: that's the scarlet letter, right? Epstein's girlfriend? Somebody that was
• 14:52
Speaker 1: that close to him? Somebody that knew what he was?
• 14:55
Speaker 1: And not only that, but according to the files, according
• 14:57
Speaker 1: to what we know, she never claimed to be a victim,
• 15:00
Speaker 1: so she was there willingly. So I could understand why Ms.
• 15:03
Speaker 1: Kim wants nothing to do with a dentist that was
• 15:06
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend. I mean, it seems like a quality
• 15:09
Speaker 1: life decision to me. So I wonder what's going to
• 15:12
Speaker 1: happen with the money. And I wonder if Shuliac is
• 15:15
Speaker 1: going to get her share of it. And to that end,
• 15:17
Speaker 1: like usual, we'll keep an eye on it. And when
• 15:19
Speaker 1: we have some more information, one way or the other,
• 15:22
Speaker 1: we'll get that added to the catalog as well. All
• 15:25
Speaker 1: the information that goes with this episode can be found
• 15:28
Speaker 1: in the description box.
