Latest / Urantia Radio / Interview with Joel Garbon on Materialism and the Modern Dilemma
Transcript
- 0:04But let me introduce you to the audience.
- 0:06Joel Garvin has been on the show before the fact.
- 0:10If you check back the few podcast ago, Joel, Joel have
- 0:14done a tremendously, impactful presentation for a group at a
- 0:19UFO Knology convention, but I was so impressed.
- 0:22I felt compelled to have Joel on because it's an opportunity to
- 0:26share new ideas and that's what this podcast is all about.
- 0:29So as honest, I thought it would be great to have Joel come back
- 0:32because we got into some really good stuff.
- 0:35Joel and I are going to talk about materialism and where we
- 0:39are in the current age because there's everybody I talk to says
- 0:44something's weird. Something's going on weird in
- 0:47the world, and you just can't pretend that things are just
- 0:49hunky-dory. I had an inner.
- 0:52I had an email from a guy today. Joel, it said to me that they
- 1:00didn't think that the Rancho book could ever make an impact
- 1:04on people because it's just too late.
- 1:06People have already made up their minds about where they
- 1:09stand on religion and religion is more like a folklore today
- 1:14than it is anything else. Do you agree with that?
- 1:18No Jim. I don't you know because that
- 1:22perspective could have been taken at the time that Jesus
- 1:26incarnated on this planet. Yeah that everything already had
- 1:29been established and was intransigent.
- 1:33So there wasn't going to be any more openness to a new way of
- 1:39viewing Humanity viewing, the Divine viewing the destiny of
- 1:45individuals. So I don't think that we're in a
- 1:49static situation. Any more now than we were two
- 1:53thousand years ago? I think that the Urantia book
- 1:56has profound insights that it can offer people today.
- 2:02It just needs to be examined, and I think when people do
- 2:08examine it, they will find that. Whoa, there are, there are a lot
- 2:12of valuable tools and insights in this revelation.
- 2:18That can be brought to bear today on very important topics
- 2:22including the one that you and I are going to discuss today.
- 2:25Now you mentioned that we'll be talking about materialism, but I
- 2:29want to expand it beyond that and really talk about
- 2:33materialism War and the Brotherhood of Man, we have a
- 2:40very timely conflict, right in our faces here, with what's
- 2:46going on over. And Ukraine, and I think it's
- 2:50the elephant in the room and I think our topic today can help
- 2:55us to address some of that even directly.
- 2:58And so, so that's some of the things that that will be
- 3:00discussing. Are you concerned that this
- 3:03might be some, how deep do you go in terms of thinking?
- 3:08This might be a profound age. Some people argue, oh, you know,
- 3:13earth goes through all kinds of different things.
- 3:15We can't get bogged down right other People say no this is the
- 3:18Tribulation a lot of people on the Christian side or worried to
- 3:22death. The only people that don't seem
- 3:25to be worried are people who who are settled in their Affairs and
- 3:31they don't strike me as very religious people or people of
- 3:33Faith. They more tend towards.
- 3:37I don't know that they don't, they don't there.
- 3:42There's a line in the Urantia book.
- 3:45It says atheism protest against God, secularism merely ignores
- 3:52him. And that's what's happening, is
- 3:55that there's a lot of ignoring, I have my theories about that,
- 4:00which we can expound on. But what do you think in terms
- 4:02of where are we as a spiritual planet right now?
- 4:05How do you think the most highs of edentia?
- 4:08Look at us now? Are we, are we gaining or losing
- 4:14a sender's? Is there concern?
- 4:17You think that? you know, when your auntie isn't
- 4:21producing very much in the way of people who actually survive,
- 4:25The transition? Well, well, it's a good
- 4:28question. I think that we are at a pivotal
- 4:30Point here, for several reasons. One of them is we seem to be at
- 4:38this balance point between people who are seeking God, and
- 4:44those who are seeking something else, and whether we just call,
- 4:49that is as the pivot point between secularism and religion.
- 4:55Or we call it something else. The war of those who seek God
- 5:03versus those who who really want to kick God out of everything.
- 5:08Like we see the trend and government education other
- 5:15institutions and it's concerning but beyond that we have a
- 5:22critical development in technology.
- 5:24That's Come about in the last several decades that if it's
- 5:29used with no wisdom or lack of wisdom that technology can be
- 5:37used to to extinguish humanity and all the companion species
- 5:44here because of the devastation that can be wrought by Advanced
- 5:48Weaponry. We also have technology that is
- 5:52more subtle, perhaps, but every bit is potentially damaging in
- 5:58that we could have a transhumanism Wave occur.
- 6:03Where know what is that? I've heard that what is that?
- 6:06Well transhumanism Is the trend toward taking the biological
- 6:13human and interfacing them with digital technology.
- 6:21So where you'd be looking at human beings who have been
- 6:24implanted with various types of technology that might be chips
- 6:29of some sort, some other type of implants that that's, that could
- 6:35link us up to a digital Network. That could be controlled in
- 6:41various ways and it would be propagandized as enhancing the
- 6:49human being by speeding up. The processing speed of our
- 6:54brains perhaps extending our senses in certain ways by the
- 7:00use of cyborg type Prosthetics making us stronger doing other
- 7:07things. That might Influence.
- 7:11Our our DNA that perhaps might provide some life extension
- 7:17characteristics and it seems to have a goal really of well I
- 7:26think of controlling all of humanity through, I was going to
- 7:32say yeah we always you see them advertising on TV, they have
- 7:37these things now that you you Put them on your your body, and
- 7:41it sort of sends a signal to your iPhone and it keeps it a
- 7:44tabs on your glucose glucose, glucose level and also your
- 7:50heartbeat, things like that. So they've already integrated
- 7:53some basic technology that can be used to gather data on your
- 7:57body that I'm okay with. But if that's a stepping stone,
- 8:01to some chip, going into my head or being inserted to me at birth
- 8:05to Create some sort of a neural response that I don't like and I
- 8:11don't even think that would be possible because of a thought
- 8:14adjuster can influence. Our will can another human being
- 8:18really do that through the 8th of technology?
- 8:20Is that even feasible? Do we evolve?
- 8:24Yeah, I think it very much is possible and I think it's
- 8:26already being done, I think there's been so many advances in
- 8:32how to use technology to influence the Thinking and
- 8:38behavior of human beings that if we were to have the curtains
- 8:42pulled back so we can see what's going on.
- 8:45I think we would absolutely be shocked and appalled and really
- 8:50frightened about what's been going on behind the scenes.
- 8:53You know, someone who talks about this quite a bit is
- 8:56Catherine. Austin fits.
- 8:58Who if if your your listeners aren't familiar with Catherine,
- 9:04she has she's a brilliant woman. She's an economist had also been
- 9:11the undersecretary, for the Department of Housing and Urban
- 9:15Development, who exposed tremendous, broad inside that
- 9:21department of the US government. And she has quite a story to
- 9:26tell you could you could consider her a whistleblower,
- 9:28but she's brilliant in the areas of finance and the global
- 9:33control Paradigm. And She has a website called so
- 9:40Larry. Sol arri so Larry.com,
- 9:45tremendous research, and she is brilliant.
- 9:50And you can find her all over the place interviews that she's
- 9:54done. And basically she's been warning
- 9:57about what's been going on here with the technologies that can
- 10:02be used, you know, for basically digital role of the population.
- 10:08Her emphasis is on how that is being steered and orchestrated
- 10:15primarily through financial control.
- 10:19So the whole digital web has has links like tentacles, if you
- 10:25will to your bank account to vaccine, passports, to, to
- 10:32digital digital technology that can be implanted in the human.
- 10:37Audience self satellite operations and, and basically
- 10:42all of the surveillance technology that's been
- 10:46saturating the planet, including our country.
- 10:49You know, you can hardly drive anywhere on your block without
- 10:52there being some type of unseen surveillance whether it's at a
- 10:57stoplight cameras that are at yours at Banks.
- 11:02When you put your ATM card, we are continuously being
- 11:05surveilled. And all of that gets linked up
- 11:09somewhere and you see how all of the data collection goes on
- 11:15through anytime you're on the internet, right?
- 11:18So when you're on social media or just doing a web search
- 11:23through a search engine, there's data continuously being
- 11:26harvested from you and it's all being fed into this.
- 11:31This big Network that collects this and it can be used to
- 11:36predict Behaviors and can be used to influence behaviors so
- 11:41that I'm not going to go into more on the whole transhumanism
- 11:44agenda and all that. It's a tough topic for another
- 11:46time. But, but it's part of what is
- 11:50going on on our planet that I think really has the attention
- 11:56of, you know, the spiritual overseers for this planet
- 12:01because we, we are not in a state of Maturity to be using
- 12:10this type of advanced technology with wisdom.
- 12:14It's unfortunately the Temptation is so great to use
- 12:19the technology for control and dominance that we're at this in
- 12:24this very dangerous period. And I think part of what we are
- 12:29seeing right now with the the technology of War and the
- 12:35technology A propaganda that can be exacerbated by the use of
- 12:43social media that is playing out right in front of us right now.
- 12:49And I'd like to to address some of these things on the topic of
- 12:56materialism War and the Brotherhood of Man, just by
- 13:00asking this question and it's, this does materialism drive car.
- 13:06Countries toward war and I'd like to get your immediate
- 13:13feedback on that Jim before I give you some of my own thoughts
- 13:16on it. Well, I think the commercial
- 13:19side, the follow the money side, there's a, you know, the
- 13:24military-industrial complex and our system in the free market
- 13:28system, plays itself out because War means profits for companies
- 13:35that provide materials that means jobs.
- 13:38It also means voters are happy with their lives.
- 13:42So for example, you know, pick a community, well, let's say Santa
- 13:46Barbara and that's the Enter one of the areas of Raytheon which
- 13:50makes missiles and IT Supplies. A lot of people with good
- 13:54incomes, they go to work, they go home at night just like you
- 13:58and me, we're just people, but they're involved in a process
- 14:01that they could help win support for the Congress person.
- 14:05In that District, if they continue to support, the people
- 14:09who work for Raytheon, because those people are going to vote
- 14:11for that guy so that he stays in office.
- 14:14So our system is sort of set up In this way where because war is
- 14:19so profitable. I mean, we just sold billions of
- 14:22dollars of equipment to Ukraine. Hopefully, it'll be the same
- 14:26amount that we left in Afghanistan, wouldn't that be
- 14:28great? So, our system right now is sort
- 14:32of set up for that. And and, you know, if you read
- 14:35about some of the social values of War as they're outlined in
- 14:39the Urantia book, You know, up to this point there have been
- 14:44some good value to come out of War.
- 14:46It, it disciplines people or a lot of their early things that
- 14:51occurred because of war that actually helped us progress.
- 14:54But now, like you said, we've been so, you know, we've created
- 14:58these things that could kill us. So Phillip is a species.
- 15:02Yeah. And so now we're, you know,
- 15:05we're not there you are not morally.
- 15:08Ethically? Ready?
- 15:10Like Elon Musk talks about inserting chips, Mark,
- 15:15Zuckerberg talking about metaverse and living within the
- 15:18mind. It's like these are kids playing
- 15:21with toys and they have no idea what's behind the scenes.
- 15:25They have no idea what they're what they're attempting to try
- 15:27to do, and it's shameful. It's embarrassing.
- 15:32And I would imagine that Michael is sitting up.
- 15:34Sup, they're going to shaking his head going?
- 15:36What are these people going to do?
- 15:38They're going to obliterate themselves if they if they're
- 15:41not careful. That's my assessment.
- 15:44Yeah I think it goes beyond embarrassing and shameful to
- 15:49it's a it's a display of a tremendous lack of insight
- 15:54maturity and wisdom for what is the trajectory Up technology
- 16:01applications that are just applied for a profit motive or
- 16:06to do something that's cool. All right, because that's often
- 16:10kind of like the real attractors.
- 16:13Oh wow. Look at this, it's something new
- 16:14and cool. So let's do it.
- 16:17Well, that is a very short-term perspective.
- 16:21We have to have a long range Vision to see, okay, what are
- 16:24the implications of using a new technology?
- 16:28We all sudden, well work, you know, I'm I'm a billionaire who
- 16:32has lots of visibility on social media and looked at is kind of a
- 16:37genius or a tech tech God if you will.
- 16:41And I'm just going to launch a bunch of satellites Public's,
- 16:45not going to have any input on this but I'm going to have a
- 16:48string of thousands of satellites just going across
- 16:51orbiting the Earth, everyone's going to be able to see it and
- 16:55it's going to have some type of electromagnetic influence on on
- 16:59the planet. Because of the signals that it's
- 17:02sending and receiving and no one else can really do anything
- 17:05about it. This is a private entrepreneur
- 17:08who's doing this, but it's not looking at any of the long-term
- 17:13implications of this. But but yet there's many who
- 17:17hailed this is. Oh wow, that's a great
- 17:19Innovation. That's so cool.
- 17:21All right, and it's giving me this materialistic benefit of
- 17:25now I can receive the a stronger internet signal.
- 17:30You know at some location, maybe it's at my second home in the
- 17:34mountains. Maybe it's it's you know, it's
- 17:36wherever okay and it's not it's not to diminish the value of
- 17:41having an internet signal but is it is it looked at beyond that
- 17:47materialistic benefit to to what are the further implications of
- 17:52the technology itself. And I start, I think there's a
- 17:55lot of immaturity and short-range vision here, that
- 17:59that is Is quite dangerous for us on work and energy.
- 18:04Just so we once had a conversation, your background is
- 18:08in energy and you said that if they wanted to today, I think
- 18:13this is what you said, Joel is that what if we wanted to today?
- 18:17We would end our dependency on, only fossil fuels.
- 18:21But also this renewable rainbow that we're chasing.
- 18:26Do we have ways? These still assert that can you
- 18:30Go into it a little bit. Well at, I can tell you
- 18:34absolutely that technology exists and it's quite
- 18:39disruptive. And where is it being applied
- 18:43right now? Well, I would suggest it's being
- 18:46applied in certain covert programs, but it's not being
- 18:50used for a social benefit in the public domain.
- 18:54And I cannot, there are certain things that constrain me from
- 19:00Into that in any technical detail Jim but I can tell you
- 19:03from my own direct experience as a scientist.
- 19:07Yes I've encountered, okay, so I won't press because I know it
- 19:11did not, you know, non-disclosures are all about.
- 19:15So let's let's look at let's look at something.
- 19:17We could all sort of relate to most recently.
- 19:21We discovered I read that they have discovered that the MRNA
- 19:25technology that they use for the vaccines, they told us early on
- 19:29that mRNA does. Not turn into DNA.
- 19:32And now that that's been proven that not only does it turn into
- 19:35DNA, but it also gets into all of your other organs because
- 19:39they're originally, the vaccine would just supposed to stay in
- 19:41the arm. But now it's now they're finding
- 19:45that. The thing travels, all over the
- 19:46place, this was something that was concocted in a laboratory
- 19:50and actually the scientist who worked on it were involved with
- 19:52it for years before coronavirus hit us.
- 19:58So they already knew new and they're doing all this
- 20:01technology stuff again. Kind of place to what you're
- 20:04saying. These people are playing God and
- 20:08they played God, trying to create this this virus for
- 20:12either military or covert operations, who knows?
- 20:16But it got out, we've all been infected with change life and
- 20:20now that they come up with another gain-of-function thing
- 20:22to figure out a way to get a vaccine, it sounds to me like a
- 20:26bunch of scientists running around.
- 20:30Just going nuts. They're just, they think they're
- 20:32God's and it makes me upset. Yeah, it's clearly though, it
- 20:37clearly goes beyond the scientific level, that that
- 20:41whole vaccination campaign was very well orchestrated.
- 20:46Among many levels of political influence, scientific influence,
- 20:53media influence, and the whole propaganda of faith.
- 20:59And Defective was so continuously played each of us.
- 21:05Probably about as heard that safe and effective safe and
- 21:08effective. Thousands of times in the last
- 21:11two years, at least thousands of times, maybe tens of thousands
- 21:14of times and is that what the data shows that this has been
- 21:19safe and effective? Well absolutely not, it is
- 21:23absolutely not safe and effective but that's been the
- 21:26drum beat and it's been propaganda.
- 21:29It's been missed. Directing, it's been deceitful
- 21:32and it's been highly damaging. And now we have, we have
- 21:35millions and millions of people around the world and hundreds of
- 21:39thousands. Maybe millions of people here in
- 21:41our own country who are going to suffer the direct Health
- 21:44consequences of that, they put their trust in institutions that
- 21:49did not Merit that trust and the the media failed us because
- 21:54they've been beholden to certain interests that that base
- 21:59Basically made them part of this propaganda campaign.
- 22:03Instead of reporting. Honestly.
- 22:05And asking the asking the responsible questions about safe
- 22:10and effective and that has been shameful, that has been truly
- 22:14shameful and it's been criminal and and we're you know, we're
- 22:18going to Bear the brunt as not just a nation but as a planet
- 22:25for for that that betrayal of the public trust again.
- 22:29Unfortunately, I'm concerned that it is part of a larger
- 22:33orchestration poured, this theme of global dominance, Global
- 22:39control. So what do we, what do you and I
- 22:45what is it, your Rancho reader do with all this?
- 22:48I mean we're not going to save the world, we're not going to
- 22:50change these people's hearts and minds.
- 22:53They have to want to change the quality of thinking.
- 22:56There's a line in the Urantia book where it says, this is the
- 22:59age of Business Leaders and lawyers next next will be the
- 23:04era of philosophy and some something else.
- 23:08But anyway, the point was that We're not at that age of, where
- 23:12the quality of thinking is something that is that is
- 23:16treasured. You know what I mean?
- 23:18In other words, the quality of the leadership is directly tied
- 23:21to the quality of their thinking and the quality of thinking in
- 23:25the world. Today, in my opinion is subpar,
- 23:28at least from the, from the way I look at it, you could sit in a
- 23:31room full of highly intelligent adult and talk about television
- 23:35shows because nobody wants to have a real discussion about
- 23:39something that has enduring values.
- 23:42Yes, yes. And that's a reflection of the
- 23:44degree of immaturity that we are right now in the selection of
- 23:51our leadership. One of the things that the
- 23:54Urantia book says, when it's discussing the, the Rancher book
- 24:00actually had dresses War wa are addresses war in many different
- 24:06papers and those include paper, 52 paper, 70 paper, 134 1994 and
- 24:141995. And, you know, one of the things
- 24:17that it speaks of is that when, when there were more primitive
- 24:23societies, where war was very common, what emerged out of that
- 24:30was strong leadership individuals, who were highly
- 24:35competent, highly capable. They were, they were courageous,
- 24:39they were wise, they Strong and the they truly could be trusted
- 24:45to put the interests of the clan, the tribe, the the nation,
- 24:52the city-state, the nation whatever they were they were
- 24:55trusted to put the interests of that Society ahead of their own
- 24:59narrow self-interest. We no longer have that in your
- 25:03answer book. Says that we no longer have that
- 25:05the way if we elect our leaders, now often has to do with other
- 25:10things besides Integrity strength, courage Vision, it
- 25:16might be things just as is as a base as well.
- 25:21They are popular because we have seen their faces in
- 25:26entertainment, it might be that they are wealthy so they could
- 25:30buy the most advertising time. It might be because they they
- 25:36have had some type of of well Some type of popularity, or at
- 25:45least media, exposure due to things that were not
- 25:50praiseworthy. But yet, it got them more
- 25:52attention. And because we have a relatively
- 25:56immature, populous as far as wisdom goes, well, then there's
- 26:01this, this tendency toward doing unwise, you know, voting for
- 26:08people who don't Merit vote for something.
- 26:11Being as important as leadership, including National
- 26:14leadership and it's and we're seeing that I think we are
- 26:18seeing that being played out right now.
- 26:21In these berry types are not I'd like to I'd like to give a You
- 26:27know, a couple couple examples here of how I am viewing where
- 26:34where we are in this, you know, materialism war and and
- 26:38Brotherhood of Man theme, you know, ordinary citizens.
- 26:43I think it's fair to say ordinary citizens are generally
- 26:47unfavorable toward War. But there's a relatively few
- 26:52wealthy politicians and bureaucrats and corporate
- 26:55interests that Really dominate the push toward war and, you
- 27:02know, the political leadership that we have now increasingly is
- 27:08comprised of extremely wealthy individuals, even Billionaire's.
- 27:13And that's not just here in the US but that's in, you know, in
- 27:16other countries as well. And we're seeing that, you know,
- 27:19with with the Russian leadership as well, you know, Putin is
- 27:24extremely wealthy man. May eat, they consider, maybe
- 27:26he's Of the most wealthy men in the world.
- 27:28But these wealthy political leaders generally are out of
- 27:33touch with the economic circumstances of ordinary
- 27:37citizens. And they tend to be very adverse
- 27:41to geopolitical conditions that threaten their wealth.
- 27:46And so generally, they might advocate for war against the
- 27:52best interests of the citizens and against the will of the
- 27:57Those who even voted them into office, so it's very selfish.
- 28:02It's not looking out for for the everyday Citizen and then that
- 28:07wealthy political class. They tend to be relatively
- 28:12insulated from The Economic Consequences of war and that
- 28:16might include things like inflation, which we are seeing
- 28:20right now. We are, we are seeing gas prices
- 28:24right now as we speak going up rapidly.
- 28:27Dudley because as a consequence of War, we're seeing supply
- 28:31chain interruptions. There will be food shortages,
- 28:34most likely, they'll be increased crime, destruction of
- 28:37homes and businesses, certainly in the war zones.
- 28:41But but elsewhere also, we're already seeing that in cities
- 28:46like Portland and Allah and Seattle, the overabundance.
- 28:50I mean, the weight of consumption is crushing us.
- 28:56Yeah. And it's a complicated very
- 28:59complicated Society to there's a passage in the Urantia book
- 29:04where it says that the typical human being has to make more
- 29:08choices now and having to deal with Society in one generation
- 29:14that they've had to do in 10. It's very complex system.
- 29:18When I see a bunch of people, I see a collection of homeless,
- 29:22what I see are people that couldn't navigate through this
- 29:26aside. T, it was too complicated.
- 29:29There are too many barriers of Entry.
- 29:31There are too many pitfalls. If you make, if you write a bad
- 29:36check ten years ago, you can't rent a decent apartment.
- 29:39You know, things of that nature of the rule, it's such a fragile
- 29:42system that that if you don't play precisely by the rules,
- 29:48then you will be cast out and you will be, you know, the you
- 29:53can't make it, you can't make it economically.
- 29:56Yeah, that's a great Point. Yeah.
- 29:58So people can easily just despair and give up because it's
- 30:04so hard to navigate that system. The Rancher book talks about
- 30:08that as well. That you know, we tend to be in
- 30:11this very materialistic and secular society, we are
- 30:16overburdened by all of these, all these things, whether it's,
- 30:20it's taxes, the weight of laws of various short, that are that
- 30:26Are just you everywhere. They enshroud us like a Net
- 30:30Technology that's gone amok. You know that you know including
- 30:36Weaponry that is so devastating. Now if it's used.
- 30:42And I think even though the fact that it exists, you know,
- 30:46there's going to be a temptation to use it.
- 30:49If you have tools, how I'm gonna use the tool some time and now
- 30:52we, when we have regime's, you know, All throughout the planet.
- 30:57I put the last count, what? I think, we're probably
- 31:00approaching 10 different nations now that have nuclear weapons,
- 31:05and, you know, that and is that proliferation of nuclear
- 31:09armaments increases, that makes this much much more vulnerable
- 31:14to having a type of military conflict or a terrorism event.
- 31:18That would just be be horrendous, you know, in 1955, I
- 31:25heard. The story about that when the
- 31:28ranch a book was first published they sent out a copy to every
- 31:32Congressman I believe every Senator to and all.
- 31:37But one came back. I wonder if there is a way.
- 31:42I mean, we have a blueprint. We have a man.
- 31:44We have a precise blueprint, several blueprints on what we
- 31:50can do at you. Cited some papers and Social
- 31:53Development human evolution, We're giving we're being given
- 31:58information that can help us get through this period, but
- 32:02nobody's reading it. Nobody's even aware of it.
- 32:05And this is where the, the influencers in society.
- 32:09If your Ranch a book reader and you're in a position of
- 32:12Authority, or a position of influence, you've got to take,
- 32:17you don't have to do it directly, but you can take the
- 32:20lesson plagiarize the hell out of the book if you want to make
- 32:24it your own idea. Whatever you got to do, get the
- 32:28information that's in the arrange, a book that tells us
- 32:31how we can get out of this mess. Every they even talked about,
- 32:35you know, you know, as human labor becomes less important
- 32:39because we've replaced with machines, well, we got to figure
- 32:42out what to do with the human labor.
- 32:43We've got to remember, you know, what they're giving these are
- 32:47Celestial smart people they're telling it.
- 32:51Yeah. Yeah, of course they weren't
- 32:54just, you know, talking about At that present day of 1934.
- 33:00Yeah, when we receive the last papers they were projecting into
- 33:04the future as well. And they were they were state
- 33:08and Common Sense insightful and wise, you know, projections of
- 33:17what we have to look out for. And, and part of that in the
- 33:23papers that talk about materialism, Is you know, when,
- 33:28when we start to become, well, they use the word indolent,
- 33:35which means basically, lazy, non enterprising video called, yeah.
- 33:40When we become, we have so much so much Leisure and distraction
- 33:46by trivialities, and I would say, one of those is the, the
- 33:51obsessive social media usage, right?
- 33:54Symptom of that. Materialism.
- 33:57There are there are things that become quite destructive.
- 34:01For instance, like in the social media, we see how it provides a
- 34:05platform for war propaganda and so many other bills.
- 34:12You know, you can have a politician right now who has
- 34:16been unduly influenced by the campaign contributions from
- 34:21weapons manufacturers and therefore are our war advocate.
- 34:26Okay, we could see politicians right now.
- 34:29You could go onto the internet right now and find on the social
- 34:32media accounts. As so many of these politicians.
- 34:35These statements are false bravery about come on.
- 34:39We're going to we're going to go get em, we got to we got to do
- 34:42this. We got to create a no-fly zone
- 34:45over Ukraine which would be disastrous, you know, because it
- 34:48would result in direct conflict of us or NATO forces toward
- 34:55toward Putin's It's forces themselves, which could ignite
- 34:58world war three immediately. But yet we got this type of
- 35:03propaganda being put by elected politicians on to social media.
- 35:08And these are the same type of individuals who can sound Brave
- 35:13on social media. When they're behind their laptop
- 35:17are in, they would never, they would never make such
- 35:21statements, if they were face-to-face with With the one
- 35:27who they are advocating against. And I would use just like a
- 35:31really simple thing, like all the politicians who were, who
- 35:34were deriding, the truckers who are participating in, in
- 35:39protest, ride against the vaccine mandates, whether in
- 35:43Canada are here in the US, none of those politicians who are
- 35:47deriding them. Would dare to stand face to face
- 35:51in front of one of these rugged truckers.
- 35:53Yeah, you know, they would say well, They call that they would
- 35:57be bored courage. There would be immediate
- 35:59consequence and so they have a false bravery on social media.
- 36:05That that never would be the case if this thing hadn't hadn't
- 36:09been, you know, been there as a symptom of the materialism.
- 36:14Yeah. So it's it's created a really
- 36:18pathetic state of affairs. You know, another thing to your
- 36:22Ranch a book, you know, talks about is In there's a section on
- 36:28political sovereignty. I think it's actually in paper
- 36:35134 and it talks about the maturity of political leaders
- 36:41and of Statesmen. And, and one of those, you know
- 36:46what, what is discussed there is being able to understand those
- 36:53those who are in other countries.
- 36:56And understand their position. Not just having us a selfish
- 37:01position for your own interest. But also understanding what is
- 37:07going on in the psychology of others who are living in, in, in
- 37:13other nations. Yeah.
- 37:14And, and I'll tell you this, this is something that has
- 37:18really come from Square in front of me.
- 37:22In the last few days with this Ukrainian conflict.
- 37:25I have a Brother-in-law who is a retired Navy intelligence
- 37:32officer, he's a military historian who has a specialty in
- 37:37Russia and Europe and I had asked this brother-in-law of
- 37:42mine just a few days ago if he would be willing to essentially,
- 37:47put it on a class for my family and for friends and he and he
- 37:53graciously agreed to do that. So, so just a few Days ago, we
- 37:57had a 90-minute zoom call where he basically outlined the
- 38:06geography, the history, the geopolitics, and the psychology
- 38:13of the Russians, and it was so enlightening gem.
- 38:19Because what, when, when you look at it, like in the case of
- 38:24Russia, they have been do Heard so many invasions of foreign
- 38:30powers over the last 1,000 years.
- 38:34It's very it's very understandable why they might
- 38:38have a type of paranoia when it comes to National Defense.
- 38:45You know? They've been invaded by Vikings
- 38:47by Mongols by swedes by French. That was Napoleon.
- 38:54Yeah. Bye-bye the The Ottoman Empire
- 38:57that actually resulted in the destruction of Moscow.
- 39:01That was back in the 1500s and they were invaded by Germany by
- 39:06Hitler's forces. And when you look at what
- 39:10happened there in that conflict of World War Two and Russia, the
- 39:14statistics are startling, and I had not heard this before.
- 39:18Until my brother-in-law was was discussing it.
- 39:21The other night, they said, you know, during WWII Rush Russia
- 39:27lost 10 million of their military.
- 39:33And 14 million of their civilians.
- 39:37It Ward War to a total of 24 million.
- 39:41Human lives, the Russian human lives, lost in World War Two.
- 39:46Now, how did that compare to to, you know, the US and Britain?
- 39:52Well, the in the u.s. we lost 400,000 and they were almost all
- 39:57military. Same thing for the UK.
- 40:00They lost about 400,000. More higher slightly higher
- 40:04percentage of civilians than military than the us.
- 40:07But combine, the US and UK lost 800,000, Russia lost 24 million.
- 40:17And and as far as inflicting casualties on Hitler's military,
- 40:23Russia accounted for 75% of the German losses.
- 40:28So so Enterprise That they were so instrumental in WWII being
- 40:37one for the allies and that they paid the greatest Price in
- 40:42blood, that that the world has forgotten the role that they
- 40:47played. So just knowing that actually
- 40:50helps me understand a little bit of what's happening right now.
- 40:54Exactly. And that was the that was the
- 40:57whole point of me. Asking my brother-in-law to
- 41:00please, enlighten us, you have information, we see all this
- 41:03propaganda on the news, social media, all these sound bites,
- 41:08but they largely are taken out of context and without much of
- 41:12the real history behind this. Much less the psychology that
- 41:17might be part of the leadership of Russia.
- 41:21Putin and particular. Why is he acting?
- 41:24Getting paranoid. Well, when you see the history
- 41:28and when you you see that that this was a this was and
- 41:32continues to be a powerful Nation, a proud nation and a
- 41:39heavily armed Nation. Well, they have been essentially
- 41:45humiliated since the fall of the Soviet Union and when when the
- 41:51the NATO alliance Continued to advance Eastward toward the
- 41:59borders of Russia. That's, that's been continued
- 42:03but that's been construed as a direct threat to Russia's
- 42:08national security. So other people don't understand
- 42:11the history are just like, well, what's the big deal?
- 42:13You know, NATO's are good. They're good guys.
- 42:16They're the white hats, right? Us are the good guys, in the
- 42:19white hats and why are you acting paranoid?
- 42:22Well, someone like Putin just go.
- 42:24Goes. Well, what did those white hats
- 42:26do in Iraq? They destroyed a whole country.
- 42:28What they do in Syria. They destroyed a whole country.
- 42:30What they do at Libya, what they do in Afghanistan after after,
- 42:35you know, Russia's own blunder in Afghanistan.
- 42:38Okay. So they don't look at that.
- 42:41The u.s. and the NATO forces as white hats.
- 42:44Yeah. Okay.
- 42:45They look at things in the context of their own history of
- 42:49being invaded, those which provides a very Context and it
- 42:55plays to the point of the way we get Beyond this point where we
- 43:00have these horrific Wars staring us down is what you say, wisdom,
- 43:07a learning about the other people if we applied the quality
- 43:12of thinking that could produce wise leaders who have far-seeing
- 43:17vision and what's ultimately good for Humanity.
- 43:21So, but we're not there yet, we're nowhere near There.
- 43:24And the next year. Next two years I've often said
- 43:28that you know the next this generation is going to determine
- 43:32the next 500 to 1,000 years, depending on who ends up.
- 43:36Yeah. And so, but you just said a
- 43:39mouthful right there. Jim.
- 43:40Yeah. So we're going to have to kind
- 43:42of leave it, I think, because we've been going about 45
- 43:45minutes and I want to talk more and there's so much more to talk
- 43:50about. So the good news is you're going
- 43:52to come back and we're going to continue.
- 43:54We're going to have other discussions, the bad news is we
- 43:57got to end, it was my fourth interview of the day and I'm I'm
- 44:04tired. But is there any closing ideas
- 44:08thoughts that you absolutely want to convey to the listeners?
- 44:14Yes, my closing thought would be as dire as things might appear
- 44:20on our planet that we should place our faith in our creator
- 44:28and in the Divine intelligence has who are serving us and who
- 44:34are overseeing this planet. And we should remember that.
- 44:39The primary teachings of Jesus are the The fatherhood of God in
- 44:44the Brotherhood of Man and that it might take a while, it might
- 44:50take many generations but we are just in to learn that lesson in
- 44:57full the fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man which
- 45:01implies that we are all one family where one human family
- 45:06were one Divine family as well and there will be a day when we
- 45:10can see each other through. In light of that family.
- 45:15And then war will not go on. We'll have the opportunity for
- 45:22really a true Global Peace and then the opportunity to move
- 45:27forward as a family and and do do amazing things on this planet
- 45:33and perhaps reach out to other inhabited planets in ways that
- 45:38we can't even imagine right now, we're not.
- 45:41We're closer than we think. Ink.
- 45:44So yes and present tensions are helping us to grow and mature.
- 45:51So no growth occurs without challenge.
- 45:54Yeah. And we have a lot of challenges
- 45:58to to encourage that growth, Joel Garvin my guest.
- 46:02This time up on Z Ranch, Radio podcast, thank you so much for
- 46:05for coming on Joel. Thank you, Kim.
