- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody? Welcome to
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schrager. We have now entered the
- 0:28Speaker 1: month of April, which is Draft season s z N.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's my favorite time of year. And as I promised
- 0:35Speaker 1: in our last podcast, although Good Morning Football is not
- 0:38Speaker 1: on the air during Draft season, I will be churning
- 0:42Speaker 1: out content and a lot of it will be through
- 0:44Speaker 1: this podcast. Here I'm joined by the great Aaron Wang Kaufman. Aaron,
- 0:48Speaker 1: how was your Easter weekend and how have you been?
- 0:52Speaker 1: My friend?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Pretty good? I mean it was unlike today. It was
- 0:55Speaker 2: a pretty beautiful time in Brooklyn and New York. We've
- 0:58Speaker 2: spent some time in Prospect Park, went for some runs,
- 1:01Speaker 2: you know, I had some good outdoor time finally.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Which I feel like I love hearing. It been a
- 1:05Speaker 1: little cold. So can I ask you have you been
- 1:08Speaker 1: caught up in the Caitlin Clark hysteria at all? Caught up?
- 1:13Speaker 2: I mean I am aware of it. I will admit
- 1:18Speaker 2: I am more closely following NBA right now than I
- 1:22Speaker 2: am more interesting. Really typically for me, like once the
- 1:26Speaker 2: NFL ends is when I really get into the NBA
- 1:30Speaker 2: and like I don't. I don't watch a ton of
- 1:33Speaker 2: NBA games during the NFL season, but the NFL season ends,
- 1:36Speaker 2: like then I'm like full in on washing NBA. Uh,
- 1:40Speaker 2: And I think there are a lot of great storylines there.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I have just watched clips and highlights of.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Okay, I watched a full Dame full game last night.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Lsu I was She's unbelievable and I've been a fan
- 1:50Speaker 1: of her for some time and not name dropping here,
- 1:52Speaker 1: she and I text quite a bit. The reason being,
- 1:56Speaker 1: and this goes back three years to the Combine. The
- 2:00Speaker 1: women's Beak ten tournament was in Indianapolis. I guess two
- 2:07Speaker 1: years ago. It wasn't my last year's year before, and
- 2:09Speaker 1: Iowa was staying in the same hotel as me, and
- 2:12Speaker 1: I'm at the bar and the Iowa Athletic director or
- 2:17Speaker 1: the SID whoever it was, and I started talking and
- 2:20Speaker 1: she's talking to me about you know, Caitlyn loves the Chiefs.
- 2:25Speaker 1: She loves Patrick Mahomes, she loves it all. So I
- 2:27Speaker 1: reach out to Brett Veach, the general manager of the
- 2:30Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs, and I'm like, are you aware that
- 2:32Speaker 1: Kitlyn Clark absolutely loves Mahomes and the Chiefs, and he goes, yes,
- 2:36Speaker 1: we've been I'm aware of it, but I've never had
- 2:38Speaker 1: a chance to connect. And then I got through this
- 2:41Speaker 1: sid in contact with Kitlyn Clark. I put her in
- 2:45Speaker 1: contact with Brett Veach. We we have a text chain, the
- 2:48Speaker 1: three of us, and Veach is like her biggest cheerleader.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Obviously you see her in all these state formads. She
- 2:54Speaker 1: is a legit Chiefs fan. She went Christmas Day if
- 2:57Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken, and like, let us all know that
- 3:00Speaker 1: she was going. They lost to the Raiders that day.
- 3:02Speaker 1: But Caitlyn Clark is no joke a football fan. Knows
- 3:06Speaker 1: her Chiefs inside and out. And there's like pictures of
- 3:09Speaker 1: her like from her childhood wearing I don't even know
- 3:13Speaker 1: which player, probably like a priest Homes jersey or something.
- 3:15Speaker 1: But is she from Iowa though she's not even from Kansas,
- 3:19Speaker 1: not from Kansas City. There's no like geographical connection. I'm
- 3:22Speaker 1: sure there is some action.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I'm from Buffalo and one Bill's fans, so I get
- 3:26Speaker 2: that totally makes sense.
- 3:27Speaker 1: So she loves the Chiefs and I tweeted last night
- 3:30Speaker 1: I said, she's my Homes, she has ten threes and
- 3:33Speaker 1: forty one points, and like everyone knows she's gonna do
- 3:35Speaker 1: it to you, and she does it anyway. About a haters,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I love it. People are like she's not one shit
- 3:40Speaker 1: yet and I'm like, well yeah. They're like, she's taking
- 3:42Speaker 1: this IOWA team past at defending champions to the final
- 3:45Speaker 1: four and last year she went to the finals. They're like, nope,
- 3:49Speaker 1: until she went to chips, she ain't Mahomes. Bro. I'm like,
- 3:51Speaker 1: all right, you know what, I respect that. If we're
- 3:53Speaker 1: gonna talk about women athletes and in a fair and
- 3:56Speaker 1: equal way with men's athletes, we judge these NFL players
- 4:00Speaker 1: by their chips and by their by their championships, and
- 4:03Speaker 1: into this case, until phil Caitlyn Clark gets one, maybe two,
- 4:06Speaker 1: maybe three, maybe we shouldn't put her in the same
- 4:08Speaker 1: breath as Mahomes real quick.
- 4:11Speaker 2: The one the one complaint about the comparison is that
- 4:14Speaker 2: she hasn't won a championship. That's pretty amazing. That's like
- 4:17Speaker 2: good right.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Like it's like no one's saying, like, no, she's not
- 4:20Speaker 1: as athletically gifted, or she's not as great an ambassador
- 4:23Speaker 1: of the sport. I love watching her. I loved watching
- 4:26Speaker 1: the Yukon shooter yesterday Page Bruckers, who, by the way,
- 4:29Speaker 1: is coming off multiple knee injuries and is doing, you know,
- 4:33Speaker 1: carrying this team on her back. So I mean on
- 4:35Speaker 1: the women's tournament. But I have to tell you, yeah,
- 4:39Speaker 1: the men's tournament has been such a love story for
- 4:44Speaker 1: me and my son, and this is gonna get sentimental.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So he's seven years old. I get the news that
- 4:49Speaker 1: Good Morning Football is going on hiatus and there's a
- 4:52Speaker 1: move and there's relocation, and it's a lot and it's
- 4:54Speaker 1: emotional and I don't know how to tell them. We
- 4:56Speaker 1: I really haven't told him. We're trying to figure it
- 4:57Speaker 1: all out, like how we talk about this. But then
- 5:00Speaker 1: the tournament starts and I'm like, okay, I'm like, well,
- 5:03Speaker 1: let me explain to you seven years old, I'm explain
- 5:06Speaker 1: to you what bracket is. So he fills out the
- 5:08Speaker 1: bracket with me, and he's got some upsets and like
- 5:10Speaker 1: he has Yukon and Purdue and he's like super into
- 5:15Speaker 1: both teams. And we go on vacation to South Carolina
- 5:18Speaker 1: and this is like such like lifetime memories and I
- 5:22Speaker 1: don't know why. And I still like mad Dog Russo here.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But these NCAA tournament games start at ten o'clock at night,
- 5:27Speaker 1: Like it's completely insane. I don't know who stays up
- 5:29Speaker 1: for these games, but yes, these games are late night games.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Fine and I and we're all in the same hotel room.
- 5:36Speaker 1: We got the baby in a crib, we got my son.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I'm like, we can't have the music. We have the
- 5:40Speaker 1: sound on, but we can do it. Mute. Mommy's gonna
- 5:42Speaker 1: try to go to bed. And he's in this little
- 5:44Speaker 1: cot and he's staying up till midnight watching Alabama Clemson
- 5:50Speaker 1: and watch and like staying up and he's into it
- 5:52Speaker 1: and he wakes up the next morning. And here's the
- 5:54Speaker 1: best part. We're in a no money free bracket on
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yahoo where it's just our family, my wife, him and me,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and he's in first place and he's excited. But there's
- 6:05Speaker 1: this little tab it says leaderboard, and if you click
- 6:09Speaker 1: on that tab, it is everyone who's put a bracket
- 6:12Speaker 1: in on Yahoo. My son is following this as if
- 6:15Speaker 1: it's the NFL playoffs and standings and tiebreakers, and he's
- 6:19Speaker 1: he's like, Dale's in first place right now, but Dale
- 6:22Speaker 1: actually has Alabama. You know, beating Yukon or Alabama. Yeah,
- 6:28Speaker 1: Alabama beating Ucon So Dale's not gonna win. And there's
- 6:30Speaker 1: this guy named Ed all right, and I feel like
- 6:33Speaker 1: if I was still writing a sports chart, like I
- 6:35Speaker 1: would write like, uh it was Mitch album piece or
- 6:38Speaker 1: Rick Riley pieces on this Ed on the Yahoo leaderboard,
- 6:43Speaker 1: Ed has NC State in there in his final four
- 6:48Speaker 1: that he has NC State beating Yukon in the NCAA finals,
- 6:54Speaker 1: and Ed right now is in first place. Mel is
- 6:56Speaker 1: obsessed with Ed's bracket every morning wakes up. He's like,
- 6:59Speaker 1: because Ed's still in first I'm like, yes, there hasn't
- 7:01Speaker 1: been any game since NC State won unbeat Duke. So Ed, Ed,
- 7:05Speaker 1: if you're a listener of the Sea and you have
- 7:07Speaker 1: the number one bracket in all of Yahoo right now,
- 7:09Speaker 1: because you're the only person anywhere who's got to left
- 7:12Speaker 1: and c at NC State, know that you've got a
- 7:13Speaker 1: fan in my son and a fan in me. I
- 7:15Speaker 1: would love to meet Ed. And Mel thinks it's so
- 7:17Speaker 1: funny that his name is just Ed. It's not some
- 7:19Speaker 1: crazy bracket like, you know, we all have our bracket names.
- 7:23Speaker 1: He's just Ed, so Ed Yahoo number one, which is
- 7:26Speaker 1: a good segue to our guest right now, as ed
- 7:29Speaker 1: has NC State and maybe the most captivating college basketball
- 7:35Speaker 1: player in recent history, this Dj Burns. He's listed at
- 7:38Speaker 1: six nine two and seventy five pounds, big body, he
- 7:41Speaker 1: doesn't jump, he just scores and has got incredible footwork
- 7:45Speaker 1: and uses his as Bill Rafford says, his dvery air,
- 7:49Speaker 1: it's to to his maximum mobility. I love watching him play.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I had a tweet saying that a general manager and
- 7:56Speaker 1: a scout multiple ones actually were talking to me about
- 7:59Speaker 1: if he had a pro day that people would show up,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and it blew up on Monday, and I figured who
- 8:05Speaker 1: better to have talk about Jay Burns as an NFL
- 8:08Speaker 1: prospect then a guy who was a front office member
- 8:11Speaker 1: of six different Super Bowl teams and has won four
- 8:13Speaker 1: of them and runs the Senior Bowl. Jim Naggy. It's
- 8:16Speaker 1: a pleasure to do this podcast with you, Aaron. Jim
- 8:19Speaker 1: Naggy's great. Can't wait to talk to him about Dj Burns,
- 8:22Speaker 1: an NFL prospect coming up after this. Our guest this
- 8:34Speaker 1: week is a dear friend of mine and one of
- 8:36Speaker 1: my favorite people to talk NFL Draft but also football
- 8:40Speaker 1: in general. We've had him on before on the season
- 8:44Speaker 1: with Peter Schreger. He is the executive director of the
- 8:48Speaker 1: Reese's Senior Bowl. He's an eighteen year NFL scout, and
- 8:52Speaker 1: he's a four time Super Bowl champion as a front
- 8:57Speaker 1: office member. Mister Jim Naggy, Welcome back to the season
- 9:00Speaker 1: with Peter Schreger.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Peter, thanks for having me back on. It's going to
- 9:04Speaker 3: be fun.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yes, it is going to be fun. We are less
- 9:06Speaker 1: than a month away. We are now officially in April,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and I plan on having you on multiple times in
- 9:11Speaker 1: the lead up of the draft. But I specifically wanted
- 9:15Speaker 1: to have you on because of a tweet that I
- 9:17Speaker 1: put out yesterday morning that I didn't realize would cause
- 9:22Speaker 1: a maustrom of vitriol support attention. I've been asked to
- 9:30Speaker 1: go on no less than twenty different talk radio shows
- 9:34Speaker 1: over the last forty eight hours over a tweet that
- 9:38Speaker 1: I had. In fact, I will read you my tweet
- 9:41Speaker 1: that I had, as I think it's the last tweet
- 9:43Speaker 1: I've put out there, and if you're not on Twitter,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I'm sure you can gather what I was referring to.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Here's my tweet. April first spoke to and texted multiple
- 9:53Speaker 1: scouts and GMS about North Carolina State big man DJ
- 9:57Speaker 1: Burns as an NFL offensive tackle prospect over the last
- 10:01Speaker 1: twenty four hours. Fact I did. He is listed at
- 10:05Speaker 1: six ' nine, but he's probably six seven. He's got
- 10:07Speaker 1: a plus footwork, would get a big turnout and potentially
- 10:12Speaker 1: money if he participated in a pro day or workout
- 10:15Speaker 1: the week after the Final four. By potentially money, I
- 10:18Speaker 1: meant could get drafted, we get signed as a as
- 10:20Speaker 1: a undrafted free agent. I put that tweet out not
- 10:24Speaker 1: thinking anything of it. It has twelve million impressions, two
- 10:29Speaker 1: point four thousand reposts, and over one thousand comments, most
- 10:36Speaker 1: of them assuming it was either an April fool's gag
- 10:41Speaker 1: or I am some sort of idiot for suggesting as much,
- 10:45Speaker 1: which is what is the nature of online now. Yesterday, yesterday,
- 10:50Speaker 1: Jim Nagy, who I trust more than anybody when it
- 10:53Speaker 1: comes to NFL draft and scouting and the like, posts
- 10:57Speaker 1: the following tweet got text from a GM, an assistant GM,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and a college director. With an hour of posting this
- 11:04Speaker 1: last Friday night, there is NFL in and DJ Burns
- 11:07Speaker 1: and it is a real thing. And last Friday night
- 11:10Speaker 1: you posted somebody said anyone else having trouble watching NC
- 11:13Speaker 1: State big man DJ Burns and not thinking about him
- 11:15Speaker 1: kick sliding and pass protection or getting out on tolls.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Can't just be me, And then a few hours later,
- 11:20Speaker 1: yesterday he wrote, I don't do lame April Fools posts, Jim.
- 11:25Speaker 1: The reaction to your tweet suggesting him as just a
- 11:28Speaker 1: potential offensive lineman in the NFL was what.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Well, a couple of things here.
- 11:35Speaker 4: First, Peter, like mine got a lot of traction, but
- 11:37Speaker 4: not twelve million like yours did. I don't have quite
- 11:40Speaker 4: the following. Man, I just you know, it's kind of
- 11:43Speaker 4: a sickness for football people. You can't watch you can't
- 11:46Speaker 4: watch hoops without your brain going to what could this
- 11:48Speaker 4: guy be on a football field? And so yeah, I
- 11:51Speaker 4: threw that out last Friday night, and again three rebuddies
- 11:54Speaker 4: hit me up. I came, ah, I'm watching the game.
- 11:55Speaker 4: I was thinking the same thing. So many things have
- 11:59Speaker 4: to happen for this got to be a football player.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I'm not saying he's gonna be on an NFL football
- 12:03Speaker 4: field next Well that's not what I'm saying. But with that,
- 12:06Speaker 4: with that body type, I'm with you. They list him
- 12:08Speaker 4: at six ' nine. I'm I'm guessing NFL scouts and
- 12:12Speaker 4: probably get him at six seven. He's probably not the
- 12:14Speaker 4: two seventy five he's list. Dad, he's probably north of
- 12:17Speaker 4: three bills. But it's just an exercise you do, man,
- 12:20Speaker 4: You what you watch? You know, kind of a long
- 12:22Speaker 4: six ' three guard with long arms, ding guys up
- 12:25Speaker 4: and with great movement, lateral movement, in reactiveness.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I mean, you know, you think what that guy looks
- 12:30Speaker 3: like at corner corner?
- 12:32Speaker 4: So so yeah, I mean I just threw that out
- 12:34Speaker 4: in the middle of March madness because I don't watch
- 12:37Speaker 4: a lot of basketball anymore. I mean, saw this DJ
- 12:39Speaker 4: Burns guy doing his thing, and uh, it's kind of
- 12:42Speaker 4: blown up. I mean, so yes, So yesterday Bleacher Report
- 12:45Speaker 4: picked up my thing and next thing, you know, my
- 12:47Speaker 4: son texts me like, hey, Dad, you're in our You're
- 12:49Speaker 4: in our buddies group chat right now.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Like what's going on? So it's been Yeah, it's been
- 12:54Speaker 3: kind of crazy.
- 12:56Speaker 1: It's a perfect storm of a little bit of a
- 12:58Speaker 1: lull in the draft season and then this incredible Cinderella
- 13:02Speaker 1: ride and you and I as football people, and I
- 13:06Speaker 1: saw several different football people and my phone also blowing
- 13:09Speaker 1: up with not just NFL fan at GMS saying I
- 13:15Speaker 1: would do anything to get my hands on just to
- 13:17Speaker 1: see what a raw you know. So what really spurred
- 13:20Speaker 1: my tweet was, I don't know his title. He's ad
- 13:23Speaker 1: a organization, he's been there for years and he's the
- 13:26Speaker 1: number two guy there. I don't know the official title.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I said to him, am I crazy? And that this
- 13:31Speaker 1: guy could have a pro day workout and NFL teams
- 13:34Speaker 1: would flock to it. And he said, yeah, one hundred
- 13:38Speaker 1: NFL teams would flock to it, and he can make
- 13:40Speaker 1: quite a bit of money. And he started listening names.
- 13:42Speaker 1: He was like Ji Lewis at George Mason was not
- 13:47Speaker 1: even close to his mobile and as Gifton footwork wise,
- 13:49Speaker 1: this guy and he got a tryout and team showed up.
- 13:52Speaker 1: And you go through it, whether it be Moley Cox
- 13:55Speaker 1: or whether it be in recent years, George Fant at
- 13:59Speaker 1: a Western Kentucky. There is a place in the Rico
- 14:02Speaker 1: gathers at a Baylor. These were college basketball players in
- 14:06Speaker 1: the torn minute. And maybe it makes NFL luddites, an
- 14:11Speaker 1: NFL knuckleheads like us look like we're you know, our
- 14:15Speaker 1: heads in the sand. And it takes an NCAA tournament
- 14:17Speaker 1: run to notice these guys because at Winthrop he was
- 14:20Speaker 1: the conference player of the year. It's not like he
- 14:21Speaker 1: wasn't doing it. But sometimes on the grand stage, when
- 14:25Speaker 1: you have a performance like this, it does open eyes
- 14:28Speaker 1: and people start thinking in football terms, and I will
- 14:31Speaker 1: put my name on it, and I think I'm pretty
- 14:33Speaker 1: reliable on this stuff. If he was to have a
- 14:35Speaker 1: pro day next week, there would be teams that would
- 14:39Speaker 1: show up, and I think there might be a full
- 14:41Speaker 1: Arsenal love team showing up. Am I wrong?
- 14:44Speaker 4: You are one hundred percent right, Peter? Just to unpack
- 14:46Speaker 4: a couple of those things, those names you talked about.
- 14:49Speaker 4: When I was with the Seahawks, we had mow Ally
- 14:52Speaker 4: Cox walking the halls on a thirty visit at this
- 14:54Speaker 4: time of year.
- 14:55Speaker 3: After his pro day, he was up into the building.
- 14:57Speaker 4: We drafted George or no, we got George Fans, an
- 15:00Speaker 4: undrafted free agent. If I could go back, like, I
- 15:03Speaker 4: got to hit up some guys in Seattle to see
- 15:04Speaker 4: if they can send me his pro video.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Let me hear so Hey's at Western Kentucky. He played
- 15:10Speaker 1: I want to say, one year of college ball. He
- 15:13Speaker 1: did play the football right.
- 15:14Speaker 3: He did he put out a helmet, but he barely played.
- 15:17Speaker 4: He barely played, and we put him through a tight
- 15:20Speaker 4: end workout at the Pro day, and all I remember
- 15:23Speaker 4: is the red zone drill. They were throwing in red
- 15:25Speaker 4: zone fades, and here's this guy that's like, at the
- 15:28Speaker 4: time two hundred and eighty pounds maybe just getting off
- 15:31Speaker 4: the ground. It was unbelievable, the body control, of the
- 15:33Speaker 4: leaping ability. And you know, a long story short now
- 15:36Speaker 4: whatever it is. Ten years later, he's been in the
- 15:38Speaker 4: league forever and he's bepent on a tackle. They you know,
- 15:39Speaker 4: we put a bunch of weight on him and just.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Had a great NFL career.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I mean, I started a ton of games, so no
- 15:46Speaker 4: the league would show up. And the other thing I'll say,
- 15:49Speaker 4: after all this stuff happened yesterday and all this your
- 15:51Speaker 4: stuff's catching fire. A buddy of mine who's a scout
- 15:55Speaker 4: that lives in the research triangle there in North Carolina,
- 15:59Speaker 4: really close to Raleigh. He texted me he was like, man,
- 16:01Speaker 4: you are killing me right now with these sweets.
- 16:04Speaker 3: He's like, I was his hope.
- 16:07Speaker 4: His hope was NC State gets bounced in the first
- 16:09Speaker 4: round or in the first couple of rounds. Yeah, and
- 16:11Speaker 4: then he was gonna try to sneak in and get
- 16:13Speaker 4: over there and work them on himself, and you know,
- 16:15Speaker 4: stash the guy away and sign him after the draft.
- 16:17Speaker 4: He's like, well, now that's not that's not in the
- 16:20Speaker 4: in the cards, because you're right. If they had a
- 16:22Speaker 4: pro day, man over half of the league would probably
- 16:24Speaker 4: be there.
- 16:24Speaker 3: I would get Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And here's the thing, and you said it when you
- 16:28Speaker 1: were talking about it. We're not suggesting he won't have
- 16:31Speaker 1: a fine NBA career. We're not suggesting he's limited and
- 16:34Speaker 1: basketball is not a future. We're just saying you see
- 16:38Speaker 1: that body. You see how nimbly is You see the
- 16:41Speaker 1: way he moves in the paint. That is offensive lineman,
- 16:44Speaker 1: footwork man, that all that stuff that he's doing, the
- 16:46Speaker 1: drop step, all this stuff that is that is stuff
- 16:49Speaker 1: that that offensive line coaches spend years trying to develop.
- 16:53Speaker 1: You see it already with that Yeah.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And you and I are an NBA scouts. I
- 16:58Speaker 3: have no idea what I'm looking at.
- 16:59Speaker 4: You know, when it comes to the projection of the
- 17:01Speaker 4: to the National Basketball Association.
- 17:03Speaker 3: And I'm sure he could play overseas.
- 17:05Speaker 4: There's a lot of basketball probably, but all you and
- 17:08Speaker 4: I were on the same page, Like it's the whole
- 17:10Speaker 4: curiosity thing is what would it look like with Pats?
- 17:13Speaker 3: That's all it was.
- 17:14Speaker 1: That's all it is. Now what would it take then
- 17:16Speaker 1: from this stage going from now put on in your
- 17:19Speaker 1: front office hat. Say they lose or they win, say
- 17:22Speaker 1: they win found you know, whatever they be. I think
- 17:25Speaker 1: they who does NC State play that they play Purdue?
- 17:27Speaker 1: So it's him and Zach Edie, which I am excited
- 17:29Speaker 1: to see. Let's say they lose on Saturday, and let's
- 17:34Speaker 1: say he has a pro day. What what would be
- 17:37Speaker 1: the workout you would put him through if you were
- 17:39Speaker 1: to be the person who was at the PRODA and
- 17:41Speaker 1: wanted to actually see him do football exercises?
- 17:45Speaker 4: Yeah, great question. It's gonna have to happen quickly, you know,
- 17:49Speaker 4: with nil stuff. I'm sure he has an agent, now
- 17:51Speaker 4: that's probably not an NFL certified agent, contract agent. I'm
- 17:55Speaker 4: sure there's a lot of those guys right now that
- 17:57Speaker 4: might be scrambling to get away to uh to DJ
- 17:59Speaker 4: Burns right now. But it's gonna have It would have
- 18:02Speaker 4: to come together quickly because we got the draft here
- 18:04Speaker 4: and you know, less than a month. But I would
- 18:07Speaker 4: try to do all like a full workout and run
- 18:09Speaker 4: a forty do the shuttles, bench press.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 18:12Speaker 4: The guy probably hasn't been lived in a bunch in season.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Although teams would love to know how strong he is.
- 18:16Speaker 4: That's gonna be. That's a big component of it as.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Well height and weight.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Right, you'd measure him, Oh yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 4: You certainly measure him. You do all, you know, a
- 18:24Speaker 4: three cone short shuttle, vertical, broad jump, forty yard dash,
- 18:28Speaker 4: all like standard pro day stuff, and then just have
- 18:31Speaker 4: him go through an offensive line position workout. I've seen
- 18:34Speaker 4: people say, well, what about tight end. That doesn't look
- 18:36Speaker 4: like a tight end body type to me. But I
- 18:38Speaker 4: would have him slide and you know, redirect and pass
- 18:41Speaker 4: set and you know, get out on pole. See him
- 18:43Speaker 4: open his hips up and get out and run all
- 18:45Speaker 4: that stuff. I'd see him, you know, pop a bag
- 18:47Speaker 4: and see. Now I did hear that he has played football.
- 18:50Speaker 1: And that's eight oh grade, eighth grade.
- 18:53Speaker 3: At least he.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Knows where, you know, thigh pads go in his pants
- 18:56Speaker 4: and everything. At least he's put on pads before. Because
- 18:58Speaker 4: the guys that have made the you know, the transition successfully,
- 19:02Speaker 4: most of them have played you're going back to like
- 19:04Speaker 4: Antonio Gates and Jim Like those guys had played football
- 19:08Speaker 4: in high school.
- 19:08Speaker 3: So so we would see, but it would be fun.
- 19:10Speaker 4: But yeah, I would put him through just a normal
- 19:12Speaker 4: standard pro day workout.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm trying to think of some like guys like
- 19:16Speaker 1: do you remember Quinton Rollins played point guard at Miami
- 19:19Speaker 1: of Ohio and then that I think a Packers draft
- 19:22Speaker 1: him in the second or first round as a corner.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Like there's been guys who have played high levels obviously
- 19:27Speaker 1: at both and we can go through the NFL history
- 19:30Speaker 1: of you know whoever it is. There's a long litany
- 19:33Speaker 1: of guys that have played it. But I you know,
- 19:36Speaker 1: I look back at like Vida Veya had a very
- 19:40Speaker 1: very decorated high school basketball career. Quentin Nelson, I believe
- 19:43Speaker 1: went to Red Bank Catholic or Red Bank Regional in
- 19:45Speaker 1: New Jersey and was like an all state player. Like,
- 19:48Speaker 1: it's not unprecedented for guys who played high school ball
- 19:51Speaker 1: to that make the transition. What is unprecedented is to
- 19:54Speaker 1: not play any college football. And yet you tell me
- 19:58Speaker 1: Jordan Mei Alotta didn't play a snap of football's entire
- 20:01Speaker 1: life and got drafted, wasn't just an undrafted guy by
- 20:04Speaker 1: the Eagles in the seventh round and is now one
- 20:06Speaker 1: of the best offensive tackles in the sport Becausejeff Sttlin
- 20:08Speaker 1: coaches him up.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yep, No, he came to mind yesterday.
- 20:13Speaker 4: I have done a couple podcasts and radio shows like
- 20:15Speaker 4: you talked about Malta came up. He's he he would
- 20:18Speaker 4: be a developmental player, right, it would. It would take
- 20:21Speaker 4: two or three years probably in what we don't know.
- 20:24Speaker 4: The toughness thing is is probably the biggest component that
- 20:27Speaker 4: we don't know, right And I love some of the
- 20:30Speaker 4: Charles Barkley stories about when he went out to play
- 20:32Speaker 4: football one day in high school and yeah, coaches like,
- 20:34Speaker 4: all right, Charles, we'll see you tomorrow.
- 20:36Speaker 3: He's like, no, you won't. I'm good. I'm good not
- 20:39Speaker 3: doing that anymore.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just fun stuff to think about.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Uh. Pete Prisco, who is polarizing too many online, is
- 20:46Speaker 1: one of my favorite guys because he says what he
- 20:48Speaker 1: thinks and he's just always been himself. He's real. He said,
- 20:52Speaker 1: slow it all down. You know, there's football tough and
- 20:56Speaker 1: there's basketball tough, and we have no idea if he's
- 20:58Speaker 1: football tough.
- 21:00Speaker 3: That's absolutely right. Yeah, Pete, Pete nailed it.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a big that's a big part of it.
- 21:05Speaker 4: And again, a lot of these projects have been tight ends.
- 21:07Speaker 4: A lot of these projections that have hit have bet
- 21:09Speaker 4: you know the Mo Walley Cox is the Jimmy Grahams. Yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 4: that's a different position. You can flex those guys out
- 21:15Speaker 4: right and make those guys pass catchers. I mean, if
- 21:18Speaker 4: DJ Burns hits, he would hit as an offensive lineman.
- 21:21Speaker 4: And and there are there are more finesse tackles than
- 21:24Speaker 4: than than others, and there's power players, but it's there's
- 21:28Speaker 4: a there's an element of physicality regardless if you're on
- 21:32Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage.
- 21:33Speaker 3: So that is the great unknown.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Your buddy who lives in that area was trying to
- 21:38Speaker 1: keep it quiet. Do you think there's a lot of
- 21:39Speaker 1: those in the draft where there's like, hey, this is
- 21:42Speaker 1: a little undercover gem that no one else has that
- 21:45Speaker 1: that I know, and we're not going to publicize it,
- 21:47Speaker 1: but might not be on the radar. And plays basketball like,
- 21:51Speaker 1: is there someone dedicated to that? And each team I
- 21:53Speaker 1: don't know how front offices work, but someone put a
- 21:55Speaker 1: tweet out who said, forget what team, it might have
- 21:59Speaker 1: been Denver or New England, and it was like, since
- 22:02Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, this guy's been hired and his job
- 22:05Speaker 1: is to look at all college basketball players and try
- 22:07Speaker 1: to find the guys, you know, the square for the
- 22:11Speaker 1: round peg that maybe the sport is wrong and we
- 22:13Speaker 1: can match him up and get into football. Is there
- 22:15Speaker 1: is that a dedicated job in a front office.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I've never known it to be a dedicated job. That's
- 22:20Speaker 4: a really good question, you know, speaking to the guy
- 22:23Speaker 4: that's up there. I mean, when they're in your backyard,
- 22:26Speaker 4: you might take your take your kid to a basket
- 22:28Speaker 4: college basketball game and notice him or something like that.
- 22:30Speaker 4: But these NFL scouts don't have a lot of time
- 22:32Speaker 4: to be on watching college basketball on television. That's that's
- 22:35Speaker 4: That's one thing I'll say this after. I want to
- 22:38Speaker 4: say it might have been after maybe after the Allie
- 22:42Speaker 4: Cox year and we had him up to Seattle. One
- 22:45Speaker 4: of the guys in our department in Seattle, you know,
- 22:47Speaker 4: one of the upper level guys, assigned it to all
- 22:49Speaker 4: the scouts. They broke up the country by area scout
- 22:53Speaker 4: and did a comprehensive study of you know, I don't
- 22:57Speaker 4: know how he did it. I don't know how analytically
- 22:59Speaker 4: he broke it down, like what level of basketball player
- 23:01Speaker 4: they had to be Statistically, I don't know how he
- 23:03Speaker 4: found him, but he ran searches of guys that did
- 23:05Speaker 4: play high school for football. Then we're also like starting
- 23:08Speaker 4: level basketball players, and we had to make calls. We
- 23:12Speaker 4: had to make calls to the basketball programs at schools,
- 23:14Speaker 4: which is really weird that year, you know, if you're
- 23:16Speaker 4: reaching out to like directors of basketball operations, those were
- 23:19Speaker 4: calls I was used to be used to making, And
- 23:21Speaker 4: I don't know if they still do that, but I know,
- 23:23Speaker 4: at least for a couple of years up in Seattle,
- 23:24Speaker 4: we did that.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I love that because it shows picking outside the box
- 23:28Speaker 1: and creativity being a football you know, media guy. I'm
- 23:33Speaker 1: not gonna say a football guy, but football media guy.
- 23:35Speaker 1: There was always this sensitivity where they'd be like, well,
- 23:38Speaker 1: if Alan Iverson played football, he would be the best,
- 23:41Speaker 1: or Randy not Randy. If Lebron James played wide receiver,
- 23:44Speaker 1: he'd be the best wide receiver of all time and
- 23:46Speaker 1: time and time again. Football people would say, slow down,
- 23:50Speaker 1: you know, is there a threat almost to the football
- 23:53Speaker 1: community when you hear someone like me tweet out DJ
- 23:56Speaker 1: Burns could be an offensive tackle in the NFL, Like,
- 23:58Speaker 1: is it insulting to those who dedicate their lives to
- 24:00Speaker 1: the position.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Peter, It shouldn't be. And you are a football guy, dude,
- 24:04Speaker 4: you sat down there seventy fifth You knew that you
- 24:08Speaker 4: knew all our seventy fifth guys career highlights and everything.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Year your football guy, it shouldn't be threatening. And you
- 24:14Speaker 4: know to the lebron thing like, I'll talk about Jimmy
- 24:17Speaker 4: Graham a little bit. So I scouted Jimmy Graham when
- 24:20Speaker 4: he was coming out of Miami. They had three tight
- 24:22Speaker 4: ends that year. I think one was Clive Warford. I
- 24:24Speaker 4: can't remember who the other guy was, but they were
- 24:25Speaker 4: all good players. I was there in August and we're
- 24:29Speaker 4: watching in edge of that Joel beginning of practice. You know,
- 24:32Speaker 4: pads are popping. You know, it's basically tight end against
- 24:35Speaker 4: against defensive end, and Jimmy's getting ragged all all over
- 24:39Speaker 4: the place. And there was a long time scout Joe
- 24:41Speaker 4: Collins from the New York Giants. He's retired now.
- 24:45Speaker 3: I love Joe.
- 24:46Speaker 4: And he looked over at me and he was like
- 24:47Speaker 4: He's like, that basketball player is going to be the
- 24:49Speaker 4: best one. And I'm like, Joe, the guy is just
- 24:51Speaker 4: getting tossed around right now, is going to be the
- 24:53Speaker 4: best one.
- 24:54Speaker 3: And then they broke that drill.
- 24:55Speaker 4: They they went off and did like seven on seven
- 24:57Speaker 4: or or you know, rots on air with the quarterbacks.
- 25:00Speaker 4: And then you saw Jimmy, you know, move and break
- 25:04Speaker 4: and I was like, Okay.
- 25:05Speaker 3: I looked at Joe. I'm like, you might be onto something,
- 25:07Speaker 3: and he was like, jim I cheated. I was here
- 25:09Speaker 3: yesterday for practicing.
- 25:10Speaker 1: He saw it, he saw him dominating.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Yeah, but think about this, So, Jimmy Graham has, you know,
- 25:15Speaker 4: kind of a borderline Hall of Fame career.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Who knows what.
- 25:18Speaker 4: I saw a tweet the other day like, what what
- 25:20Speaker 4: would Jimmy's career look like if the Saints never traded
- 25:22Speaker 4: him to the Seahawks total for Max Hunger, if he
- 25:25Speaker 4: stayed with with Drew Berries whole career, what would his
- 25:28Speaker 4: numbers look like? Again, regardless, he's one of the best
- 25:31Speaker 4: players in Saint's history, right. So, and he was a
- 25:35Speaker 4: dirty work player for the Miami basketball team. He was
- 25:39Speaker 4: he was a sixth man.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Wasn't if I recall he averaged like less than ten
- 25:42Speaker 1: points a game, if I'm not mistake, and he was
- 25:44Speaker 1: not more than a double zero, if I'm not mistaken,
- 25:46Speaker 1: and he was not twenty and ten.
- 25:49Speaker 4: No, he was the scrappy guy, dude, he was. He
- 25:51Speaker 4: was the blue collar guy. I think he finished at
- 25:53Speaker 4: the time off the top night. He was like top
- 25:55Speaker 4: ten in blocks in career history. That he was a rebounder,
- 25:58Speaker 4: and he's a defensive player. But he was like a
- 26:00Speaker 4: scrappy dude in the ACC, like not even touching. He
- 26:04Speaker 4: had no chance to play in the nest in the NBA. Yeah,
- 26:07Speaker 4: what would Lebron have like in his career ends up
- 26:10Speaker 4: being borderline Hall of Fame? Yeah, as a guy that
- 26:13Speaker 4: was like a sixth man in the ACC. What would
- 26:16Speaker 4: Lebron seriously like? He's he or Michael Jordan whatever that
- 26:19Speaker 4: debate is best best basketball player ever?
- 26:22Speaker 3: He played? He played football in high school and was
- 26:25Speaker 3: at a high high school high level.
- 26:27Speaker 4: He was probably a legit six seven, six eight, probably
- 26:30Speaker 4: two hundred and sixty to seventy pounds. He could have
- 26:32Speaker 4: been the best football player they ever lived.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I don't get it right.
- 26:36Speaker 3: How can you how can your brain not go there.
- 26:38Speaker 4: I mean, if you're just if you're just using Jimmy
- 26:40Speaker 4: Graham as is the benchmark and what his career in
- 26:43Speaker 4: the NFL, and it would be in what could Lebron
- 26:45Speaker 4: have been?
- 26:45Speaker 3: So yeah, back to it.
- 26:46Speaker 4: NFL people shouldn't be they, I mean, come on you
- 26:50Speaker 4: those games are fun to play.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know if DJ Burtns loves football. I
- 26:54Speaker 1: don't know if he's ever had a chance to. I
- 26:57Speaker 1: don't even know. You know, we don't know Lebron loves football.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Lebron I know just through Bath Carter and those guys
- 27:05Speaker 1: like they football is almost you know, basketball is the
- 27:09Speaker 1: job and the path. Like those guys on Sundays, that
- 27:11Speaker 1: is what they do. They watch football. So you combine that,
- 27:14Speaker 1: does a like did George Fan love football or was
- 27:17Speaker 1: it like this is a job when you interviewed him
- 27:19Speaker 1: and you guys brought him in, you.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Know, I didn't sue it George then, But but for
- 27:23Speaker 3: him to.
- 27:23Speaker 4: Have the careers had I would assume he he either loved.
- 27:27Speaker 3: It or really liked it.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah. I guess my question is like if your DJ
- 27:30Speaker 1: Burns and your whole life has been basketball, basketball, basketball,
- 27:32Speaker 1: and it's like yeah, but there's a meal ticket potentially
- 27:35Speaker 1: for football. Do you need to have like a dying
- 27:38Speaker 1: an undying love for the sport to like pursue it
- 27:41Speaker 1: or is it just, hey, this is this is the
- 27:42Speaker 1: right decision financially. I guess that's a decision he's got
- 27:45Speaker 1: to make, right.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Peter, Peter, you know this.
- 27:47Speaker 4: I mean there's a lot of guys that play in against.
- 27:51Speaker 1: We doubtless guys on Good Morning Football who like I
- 27:53Speaker 1: try to talk about the league with like a commercial breaking,
- 27:55Speaker 1: like they don't even follow the NFL, Like they don't
- 27:57Speaker 1: even know who the good teams are. They don't even
- 28:00Speaker 1: And I'm almost humbled by that. I'm like, that's how
- 28:03Speaker 1: what an amazing athlete you are that you can just
- 28:05Speaker 1: do what you do as a job and then turn
- 28:06Speaker 1: it off. That's incredible, you know.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Yeah, like with those.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Guys, And that's always the first question with guys that
- 28:11Speaker 4: played both sports, right, and you hear about it, like
- 28:14Speaker 4: you go into the school as a scout in the fall,
- 28:15Speaker 4: and I'll tell you, like this kid was more of
- 28:17Speaker 4: a hooper in high school, Like we don't know how
- 28:19Speaker 4: much he.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Goes football, but you know he's really good at it.
- 28:21Speaker 3: So he does it.
- 28:22Speaker 4: But what it does, it probably prevents you from hitting
- 28:25Speaker 4: your ceiling as a player, right, Like if you really
- 28:27Speaker 4: loved it, then like you would be better. But just
- 28:30Speaker 4: on your natural gifts a loan, you can play it,
- 28:32Speaker 4: and you can a lot of these guys play.
- 28:34Speaker 3: A long time.
- 28:34Speaker 4: But that's kind of I don't think fans realize how
- 28:37Speaker 4: guys just don't love it.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Yeah, my last question on this multi sport thing, I'll
- 28:43Speaker 1: never forget. I want to say it was Tristan Worths
- 28:46Speaker 1: and there's a long line of them, and I know
- 28:48Speaker 1: aj Epineza was one of them. And of course in
- 28:50Speaker 1: recent here Linderbaum like wrestling. Football guys love wrestlers. They
- 28:57Speaker 1: don't love basketball guys, but they love wrestlers. Am I wrong?
- 29:00Speaker 4: You're absolutely right? No, especially you know, on the on
- 29:04Speaker 4: the offensive defensive line. So for this year, Zach Frasier
- 29:06Speaker 4: is a center at West Virginia. I think he was
- 29:08Speaker 4: a four time state champion in the state of West Virginia,
- 29:11Speaker 4: maybe lost one time as a freshman. Ridiculous record. So
- 29:14Speaker 4: this is this is another a cool carryover. Now you're
- 29:17Speaker 4: catching me off guard a little bit during my time
- 29:20Speaker 4: with the Patriots, and I'm gonna be blanking on this
- 29:23Speaker 4: dude's name. He was a He was an All American
- 29:26Speaker 4: wrestler at cal State Bakersfield. Our college director, Larry Cook
- 29:32Speaker 4: from the New England Patriots, went up and went to
- 29:36Speaker 4: the workout, went to the pro day, worked him out,
- 29:39Speaker 4: We signed him as a free agent, and we drafted
- 29:41Speaker 4: him late.
- 29:41Speaker 3: I can't remember.
- 29:42Speaker 1: I'll tell you his name right now, and he's Stephen Neil.
- 29:46Speaker 1: He was a great Patriots Stephen Neil.
- 29:48Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Stephen, I'm having like an old guy moment
- 29:52Speaker 4: right now.
- 29:53Speaker 1: He is CSO Bakersfield's most decorated wrestler, and he now
- 29:56Speaker 1: serves as the alumni relations coordinator for csub's wrestling program.
- 30:01Speaker 1: A once in a lifetime story of wrestler who did
- 30:04Speaker 1: not play college football and went into the NFL and
- 30:07Speaker 1: had a storied NFL career.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Yeah, they don't have they don't have football Cast State Bakersfield,
- 30:11Speaker 4: they don't play football there.
- 30:12Speaker 3: So again, he came in.
- 30:13Speaker 1: How do you find that? So how'd they find him?
- 30:16Speaker 4: Some agent probably just put it out that they were
- 30:18Speaker 4: gonna have a pro dat. I don't know, I don't
- 30:20Speaker 4: know how, but but I'm sure a lot of teams came.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Thank god, Larry you know, developed a relationship and signed him.
- 30:26Speaker 4: But I remember the biggest thing for Steven was it
- 30:29Speaker 4: wasn't strength, it wasn't toughness. Obviously, his was just that
- 30:32Speaker 4: aggressive nature, right because you're used to that is such
- 30:35Speaker 4: an aggressive sport. He had to rain himself in a
- 30:38Speaker 4: little bit, like, yeah, tone it down a little bit.
- 30:41Speaker 4: On the football field, he would be sober aggressive. He
- 30:43Speaker 4: almost he almost had questioned the athlete a little bit
- 30:46Speaker 4: because he was always out over his skis and he's
- 30:48Speaker 4: you know, on the ground and then you know. But
- 30:51Speaker 4: but our offensive line coach, Dante Scarnekia was a Jim.
- 30:54Speaker 4: That's not athleticism. I just we just got to rain
- 30:56Speaker 4: this guy in. And then, like you said, he came
- 30:58Speaker 4: in he was an all time Patriot. I mean, this
- 31:00Speaker 4: dude started so many games in a row. And again,
- 31:03Speaker 4: it's nice when you have a Dante's scarneki one of
- 31:06Speaker 4: the greatest coaches ever to help develop you. But I mean,
- 31:09Speaker 4: obviously different sport. But there's another there's another instance where
- 31:12Speaker 4: the guy didn't play college football and becoming a very
- 31:15Speaker 4: good NFL player.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember I used to do games with Matt Millan.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I was his sideline interporter, and Matt loved, loved college
- 31:23Speaker 1: and high school Pennsylvania, penn State wrestling, and he would
- 31:27Speaker 1: tell he would always give me a wrestler, like, give
- 31:30Speaker 1: me a wrestler, get me someone who's gonna get dirty.
- 31:31Speaker 1: And I was like, that's so interesting because those two sports,
- 31:34Speaker 1: like when you get those big boys, like a lot
- 31:36Speaker 1: of those skills do translate. Uh, you mentioned the Patriots.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna get you off script a little bit here.
- 31:41Speaker 1: You worked there for many years. Did you get a
- 31:43Speaker 1: chance to watch the documentary The Dynasty?
- 31:47Speaker 4: I did, I did, I saw. I think I've seen
- 31:49Speaker 4: the first four episodes so far, which was.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Your era, right, that's when you were with them through
- 31:53Speaker 1: that as farst.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Yeah, those first four episodes was about the time I
- 31:56Speaker 3: was there.
- 31:56Speaker 4: I actually caught myself in the in the background of
- 31:58Speaker 4: a couple of practice shots, and I felt really old.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Because I looked a lot younger back then, but look good.
- 32:04Speaker 3: It was really cool.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Okay, cool because obviously you've seen a lot of the
- 32:09Speaker 1: I would say almost it's interesting the Patriots Dynasty, I
- 32:13Speaker 1: almost break up into different chapters, almost four chapters of
- 32:16Speaker 1: like you know, the early first four Super Bowls that
- 32:19Speaker 1: they went to, you know, including the Giants one, and
- 32:22Speaker 1: then this, you know, changing guard a little bit, and
- 32:25Speaker 1: then you've got these last ten years. You can split
- 32:27Speaker 1: in half of you know, the Brady, you know, final
- 32:29Speaker 1: couple super Bowls and then post Brady. A lot of
- 32:34Speaker 1: a lot of controversy around it, and even Robert Kraft
- 32:36Speaker 1: at the league meetings had to like speak up on it,
- 32:37Speaker 1: and it was like, well, I'm not necessarily the rill,
- 32:40Speaker 1: which I I'm not going to knock Robert Kraft from
- 32:42Speaker 1: what he thought of it, but I believe he had production,
- 32:45Speaker 1: you know, saying some of this stuff, and you know,
- 32:47Speaker 1: he was kind of being critical of it. Have you
- 32:50Speaker 1: talked to us like is this a is there a
- 32:52Speaker 1: text stain of all the old Patriots staffers or like
- 32:54Speaker 1: you and Nick Cassario and Eric Mangini and whoever else,
- 32:57Speaker 1: like texting about how the thing was portrayed? Yeah, a
- 32:59Speaker 1: little bit.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I've had I've had those texts with some guys. Again,
- 33:04Speaker 3: I wasn't in it.
- 33:05Speaker 4: I'm sure the guys have in or a little more
- 33:07Speaker 4: hyper sensitive to it. And you know what I do
- 33:09Speaker 4: with the Patriots dynasty, there Peter, I break it down to.
- 33:12Speaker 3: The slot receivers.
- 33:14Speaker 4: To me, it was the Troy Brown era, and then
- 33:16Speaker 4: it was the Wes Welker era, and then it was
- 33:18Speaker 4: the Julian Element era.
- 33:19Speaker 3: To me, those are those three guys kind of span
- 33:21Speaker 3: the lifetime. But I don't know. For me, it was
- 33:23Speaker 3: like a look back. You know.
- 33:25Speaker 4: I saw Damien Wood he put something out there on
- 33:26Speaker 4: social media that he was watching you with his kids.
- 33:29Speaker 4: You know, they obviously weren't around when Damien was a player,
- 33:32Speaker 4: sort of like see footage of him, were running out
- 33:33Speaker 4: the tunnel at Gillette and all those things. Like for me,
- 33:37Speaker 4: it was like a retrospective. Man, I was in like
- 33:39Speaker 4: my mid twenties back then. I'm almost fifty now, so.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Think about it.
- 33:42Speaker 4: I watched the show through through that lens, and it
- 33:45Speaker 4: just brought back a lot of great memories and I
- 33:48Speaker 4: thought they did a great job at Shoot, man, I'm
- 33:49Speaker 4: not I was no part of that content, so I shoot,
- 33:52Speaker 4: there's a lot.
- 33:53Speaker 3: I know, there's a lot of people that I issued.
- 33:54Speaker 1: With it though, So like the chief concerns are that,
- 33:57Speaker 1: like you know, Cory Dillon comes about as a you know,
- 34:00Speaker 1: not a troubled player. But I got that just hadn't
- 34:02Speaker 1: been able to win, and it was on the field,
- 34:04Speaker 1: off field, whatever for his Bengals. Like that was a
- 34:06Speaker 1: big Bill Belichick to bring in Corey Dillan, like Garrett Blunt,
- 34:09Speaker 1: was a lot of the stories of guys that Belichick
- 34:13Speaker 1: took a gamble on, and Randy moss Is obviously was
- 34:16Speaker 1: less of a gamble given the player that he was.
- 34:18Speaker 1: That stuff was lost and some of Belichick's gumption to say,
- 34:21Speaker 1: you know, let's throw convention to the win and let's
- 34:25Speaker 1: let's try to win football. There's the feeling that Belichick
- 34:28Speaker 1: wasn't portrayed as well as he should have been as
- 34:31Speaker 1: being one of the greatest coaches of all time, if
- 34:33Speaker 1: not the greatest.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, yeah, the greatest. I could see that.
- 34:37Speaker 4: I mean, there's so there's so many great things that
- 34:39Speaker 4: that vill and Scott did putting those teams together, kind
- 34:42Speaker 4: of going out of limb. I mean, even like Rodney Harrison.
- 34:44Speaker 4: I remember when when they when they brought in Rodney Harrison.
- 34:48Speaker 4: You know, I think Marty Schottenhammer was on record saying
- 34:50Speaker 4: and that or maybe told Rodney this, and it got
- 34:52Speaker 4: back to me through through someone in the front office.
- 34:54Speaker 4: That like they told Rodney, MANU you lost a staff,
- 34:57Speaker 4: like we can't, we don't. We don't think you got
- 34:59Speaker 4: it anymore. So then you bring in a dude with
- 35:01Speaker 4: a chip on his shoulder and you all Rodney did.
- 35:03Speaker 3: I remember?
- 35:03Speaker 4: I remember this vividly. In six in a six playoff
- 35:07Speaker 4: game run, he forced seven turnovers. He created whether like
- 35:10Speaker 4: force fumbles, interceptions, fullmer recovers. He was a part of
- 35:13Speaker 4: seven turnovers and six playoff games, which to me is
- 35:15Speaker 4: like the coolest ever. You know, you're bringing guys that
- 35:18Speaker 4: play big and big games. But yeah, I mean, I shoot,
- 35:22Speaker 4: and I haven't finished it, and I look forward to
- 35:23Speaker 4: finishing yet I.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Have any there. I've gotten six episodes in. I just
- 35:27Speaker 1: finished the Aaron Hernandez episode, and I think that's what
- 35:29Speaker 1: a lot of the Patriots are, Like, yeah, that was
- 35:31Speaker 1: a story in CNN, and it was a bigger story
- 35:35Speaker 1: in our building. But like, if you're gonna encapsulate ten
- 35:38Speaker 1: years of the Patriots, is twenty years of the Patriots
- 35:42Speaker 1: in ten episodes, Like I don't know, and a lot
- 35:44Speaker 1: of them I know that. Like Rodney was upset because
- 35:47Speaker 1: he did five hours of interviews and they got one
- 35:50Speaker 1: clip in with him. I know Devin mccordy through Jason
- 35:53Speaker 1: wasn't thrilled. They spent all day with him, multiple days,
- 35:55Speaker 1: and you know that's that's really behind the scenes stuff,
- 35:59Speaker 1: like for us the viewers, like it's candy to just
- 36:01Speaker 1: watch old football in the greatness of the Patriots, be honest, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:07Speaker 1: All right, before we wrap, we're now April second, where
- 36:14Speaker 1: our teams with their draft boards, like has Washington likely decided, Okay,
- 36:20Speaker 1: here's how we rank our quarterbacks or is that thing
- 36:23Speaker 1: still fluid as they gather information.
- 36:26Speaker 3: I think it's still fluid.
- 36:28Speaker 4: I was in Baton Rouge last week, and uh, it was.
- 36:32Speaker 3: It was.
- 36:32Speaker 4: It was pretty cool because at the hotel we stayed
- 36:34Speaker 4: at in Baton Rouge, Dan Quinn and Adam Peters were there,
- 36:38Speaker 4: and then Girod Mayo and Elliott Wolf were there and
- 36:40Speaker 4: we're all done in the lobby getting ready to go
- 36:43Speaker 4: to JAYD and Daniels prote the next day. You know,
- 36:45Speaker 4: we're having having drinks down there and he's gonna be
- 36:48Speaker 4: on one of their two football teams probably when we
- 36:51Speaker 4: get to the fall, So you know they're just coming
- 36:54Speaker 4: off that right they most most of the teams let
- 36:56Speaker 4: their their families go home and have Easter with with
- 36:58Speaker 4: the family, and now they're bringing them all back in.
- 37:00Speaker 3: So now what you're doing.
- 37:02Speaker 4: They most of these teams haven't met since post Senior
- 37:05Speaker 4: Bowl and they have not met since the combine because
- 37:08Speaker 4: you hit the ground running from the combine to pro dase, right, Ye,
- 37:11Speaker 4: So like their last their last meeting was Okay, let's
- 37:14Speaker 4: let's debrief after Senior Bowl. How did all these guys look.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Now let's go to the combine. Now they got to
- 37:19Speaker 4: get back together. Okay, what did combine look like? What
- 37:22Speaker 4: did pro das look like? What's the new information?
- 37:24Speaker 3: You know?
- 37:25Speaker 4: Again, I think the lost part of Pro Day season
- 37:27Speaker 4: is yeah, you're you're there to get the numbers and
- 37:29Speaker 4: see how the guys work out. But it's another opportunity
- 37:31Speaker 4: for these scouts to go back into the buildings and
- 37:34Speaker 4: not just meet with the player, but meet you know,
- 37:37Speaker 4: resource the building. Like we've now we've met with the guy,
- 37:39Speaker 4: we met with him at Mobile, we met with him
- 37:41Speaker 4: at the at the Pro Day. Here's the questions we
- 37:44Speaker 4: have left. Now you go back to the offensive coordinator
- 37:47Speaker 4: or you know, the custodians or whatever, you know, the
- 37:50Speaker 4: equipment guy, whatever questions you have left, you can work.
- 37:53Speaker 4: You can work the building again. So now they're all
- 37:55Speaker 4: getting back in the building. Now you're talking through all
- 37:57Speaker 4: that stuff. Over probably the next two weeks and then
- 37:59Speaker 4: those finals two weeks it's just phone calls, you know,
- 38:02Speaker 4: working strategy, working trades and trying to really get the
- 38:06Speaker 4: strategy part of the draft down is.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Probably those final two weeks, but right.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Now they are they're just debriefing after you know, combining
- 38:13Speaker 4: pro days.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Okay, so long, long windedly answer you, Peter.
- 38:16Speaker 4: I think I think I don't think the Commanders and
- 38:18Speaker 4: the Patriots or or any of those teams really know
- 38:21Speaker 4: you know, who their guys yet.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Okay, here's an exercise we're gonna do because I think, honestly,
- 38:26Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah I think is the best on TV. I
- 38:28Speaker 1: think if we threw you on there, you'd be right
- 38:30Speaker 1: up there with Daniel. And I think you've got as
- 38:32Speaker 1: great an insight as anyone having been you know, the
- 38:35Speaker 1: executive director of the Senior Bowl for all these years.
- 38:37Speaker 1: But also you're just great in talking about these players
- 38:40Speaker 1: in terms we can understand. I'm gonna do a little
- 38:43Speaker 1: get in with you and you can play along or
- 38:45Speaker 1: just say, Peter, I don't want to do this. I'm
- 38:47Speaker 1: gonna name the quarterback and I'm gonna say my concern
- 38:51Speaker 1: with them, and then you're gonna tell me whether it's
- 38:53Speaker 1: a valid concern, or say what you've heard about these
- 38:56Speaker 1: guys with that concern. We good?
- 38:58Speaker 3: Yeah, great.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels, his size and his build is too big
- 39:04Speaker 1: of a concern to take at number two in the draft.
- 39:08Speaker 1: In that if Bryce Young showed us anything, and I
- 39:12Speaker 1: know Bryce on it shorter, but build wise, Daniels might
- 39:15Speaker 1: not be bigger than two hundred pounds. That build is
- 39:18Speaker 1: not one that will last in the NFL. Your thoughts
- 39:21Speaker 1: on that comment.
- 39:22Speaker 4: Okay, I think if this is this is whole poking season, right,
- 39:26Speaker 4: Yes it is. So if that's the hole, it's a
- 39:29Speaker 4: really small hole to poke. You know, Jayden, I think
- 39:33Speaker 4: a lot was made of what he was at Arizona State.
- 39:35Speaker 4: He's this slight build guy. He's gotten bigger and bigger.
- 39:38Speaker 1: I think. Okay, I love that.
- 39:40Speaker 4: At Baton Rouge last week, I'm sitting in the auditorium
- 39:43Speaker 4: in the team room when Brian Kelly addressed all the
- 39:46Speaker 4: NFL guys, and I'm sitting next to the LSU strength
- 39:49Speaker 4: coach and they weigh all the players in front of
- 39:51Speaker 4: the assembly, and Jayden was too ten okay. And I
- 39:55Speaker 4: looked over at the strength coach. I'm like, is that
- 39:57Speaker 4: what he played out in the ball? Is that the
- 39:58Speaker 4: heaviest he's been. He's like, no, he was too twelve
- 40:01Speaker 4: two thirteen.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Tom Brady ended his career when he was when he's
- 40:06Speaker 3: going throw the TV twelve stuff. I read places where
- 40:09Speaker 3: he was like two hundred and fifteen pounds, okay, you know,
- 40:11Speaker 3: and nobody questioned that.
- 40:13Speaker 4: So if Jayde's in that two ten to two fifteen,
- 40:16Speaker 4: he didn't get hurt in the SEC.
- 40:17Speaker 3: He took a lot of big shots. It is two.
- 40:20Speaker 4: And if you look at us, you look at the
- 40:21Speaker 4: games played and games missed, students did miss a lot
- 40:24Speaker 4: of time in the most fiscal league in college football.
- 40:27Speaker 4: So I think that's a small hole to pope.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Interesting, he didn't measure at the combine to you, is
- 40:31Speaker 1: that a red flag?
- 40:33Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean I don't. I don't know what.
- 40:35Speaker 4: I don't know what these guys are doing now and
- 40:37Speaker 4: what the agents are telling her. You like, why not
- 40:39Speaker 4: remeasure or why not? It's just again, it's probably stupid.
- 40:43Speaker 4: It's probably dumb. I get where the agents and the
- 40:45Speaker 4: players are, Like, listen, I measured at the Senior Bowl.
- 40:47Speaker 4: I measured at the combine, Like, why do I have
- 40:49Speaker 4: to do it again? But I mean, that's not going
- 40:52Speaker 4: to get him drafted or undrafted or I don't think
- 40:54Speaker 4: you said it's not going to move the needle with teams.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Okay, Drake May inaccurate for the first year. What are
- 41:03Speaker 1: your talk what are your takes on that.
- 41:06Speaker 3: The the inaccuracy part. Okay.
- 41:09Speaker 4: I would say a lot of times accuracy stems from
- 41:13Speaker 4: your feet.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Okay.
- 41:15Speaker 4: And Drake was working out down here in Mobile in
- 41:17Speaker 4: the pre draft process with a guy by the name
- 41:20Speaker 4: of David Morris. It was bon Nicks and Drake May
- 41:23Speaker 4: and Carter Bradley, who has a chance of getting drafted
- 41:25Speaker 4: like Dus Bratt.
- 41:26Speaker 3: So yeah, so watching them work out, we go back in.
- 41:31Speaker 4: I watched field workout, we go back in, we watch video,
- 41:34Speaker 4: and they took a video so it's kind of close
- 41:37Speaker 4: up and I'm watching Drake throw and I'm like a
- 41:40Speaker 4: total idiot. I don't even think about the May family
- 41:42Speaker 4: and what they are. I look at Drake, I'm like
- 41:44Speaker 4: did you play hoops grown up? And he was like, yeah,
- 41:47Speaker 4: I did. And I'm like, well, did you play through
- 41:49Speaker 4: high school or did you stop in middle school? I
- 41:50Speaker 4: was like no, I played all the way through. And
- 41:52Speaker 4: then someone was like, well, Jim, like this whole family
- 41:54Speaker 4: played hoops in North Carolina.
- 41:55Speaker 3: I'm like, I totally forgot got it.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Yeah the winning shot that time?
- 41:59Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, this dude, This dude for a guy his size,
- 42:02Speaker 4: he has incredible feet.
- 42:04Speaker 3: So is there things he can do?
- 42:06Speaker 4: Mcaly, you know, in terms of like shortening the release
- 42:08Speaker 4: to tighten that up.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 42:10Speaker 4: And again obviously everyone points to Josh Allen is a
- 42:13Speaker 4: guy that you can correct some inaccuracy stuff with. I
- 42:17Speaker 4: just think when they're athletic enough, like Josh Allen, we
- 42:19Speaker 4: all know what kind of athlete he is.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Drake May is a similar type athlete. I mean his
- 42:24Speaker 3: feet are really bouncy for a big guy, so it
- 42:26Speaker 3: would not be a concern of mine.
- 42:28Speaker 1: All right. Last one, JJ McCarthy eighteen teammates at the
- 42:34Speaker 1: Combine and Sharon Moore called thirty two straight run plays
- 42:39Speaker 1: in a game and he didn't throw the ball once.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Is that a red flag to you?
- 42:44Speaker 4: No, that's that's Sharon Moore in a really hostile visiting
- 42:48Speaker 4: environment at Penn State, want to just assert his will.
- 42:51Speaker 3: On the other team.
- 42:52Speaker 4: So that's what I would say, you know, and yeah,
- 42:54Speaker 4: did JJ have a lot of great players around him?
- 42:57Speaker 3: He certainly did, But he didn't have I mean, look
- 42:59Speaker 3: at look at who.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Neighbors and Thomas right, no question.
- 43:06Speaker 3: I mean you just go back over some of these
- 43:08Speaker 3: quarterbacks to who they're thrown to.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Brow had Chas and Jefferson right.
- 43:12Speaker 4: Right, and Mac Jones had, you know, Devonte Smith and
- 43:15Speaker 4: Waddle and all those guys.
- 43:17Speaker 3: JUDI house guys, so and JJ didn't have that j J.
- 43:21Speaker 4: JJ didn't have like Roman Wilson's a really good player,
- 43:23Speaker 4: and they've got some they got some young guys, but
- 43:25Speaker 4: he didn't have that outside.
- 43:27Speaker 3: So again that's the easy knock.
- 43:30Speaker 4: All I know is that JJ has only lost three
- 43:33Speaker 4: football games in his life. That includes high school, high
- 43:36Speaker 4: school and college. The kid has lost three games as
- 43:39Speaker 4: a starter. It's a big enough sample size. He's been
- 43:42Speaker 4: a two year starter. He's got crazy tools. So I'll
- 43:45Speaker 4: share one quick story from all right. I'm at baton
- 43:47Speaker 4: Rouge last week. I'm standing next to a GM. I
- 43:50Speaker 4: wasn't at Caleb Williams prode I wasn't at JJ McCarthy's prodee,
- 43:54Speaker 4: but this GM was right.
- 43:56Speaker 1: So j J.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Jayden finishes up his workout. I thought it was impressive.
- 44:01Speaker 4: The dude can freaking fire it off his hand him.
- 44:03Speaker 4: It's it's really impressive. I'm like, well, where is this
- 44:06Speaker 4: stack up in the three you've seen? And his rank
- 44:09Speaker 4: was JJ McCarthy, then Jayden Daniels, then Cale Williams just
- 44:12Speaker 4: off the pro Day Okay, okay, what what do pro
- 44:15Speaker 4: day show?
- 44:16Speaker 3: Pro dace show physical tools?
- 44:18Speaker 4: They show they show the physical potential of a guy
- 44:20Speaker 4: and what he can do, you know, mobility, arm, strength,
- 44:23Speaker 4: all those things.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Right, that's what PRODA is about. Physically, what is this
- 44:27Speaker 3: guy tools?
- 44:28Speaker 4: JJ obviously has them if a GM is seeing those
- 44:31Speaker 4: three workouts and he puts them up there as the
- 44:33Speaker 4: top guy. So I mean, that's why everyone's asked me
- 44:37Speaker 4: in some of the podcasts like is this j J
- 44:39Speaker 4: McCarthy stuff real?
- 44:40Speaker 3: I think it is.
- 44:41Speaker 4: You know, I think that I think that the media
- 44:43Speaker 4: is playing catch up a little bit, and I think
- 44:45Speaker 4: the league's playing I think the league's diving more into JJ.
- 44:48Speaker 4: They didn't know if it was going to come out
- 44:49Speaker 4: or not. So yeah, it's it's uh so, I don't know.
- 44:54Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 44:55Speaker 4: I don't know if I dispelled her because you're arrest But.
- 44:59Speaker 1: What do you what do you make of Hardball rally
- 45:01Speaker 1: in the flag around him so much? You're a Michigan man,
- 45:03Speaker 1: Like what is that when he comes out and is
- 45:06Speaker 1: like he's the number one quarterback in this draft and
- 45:07Speaker 1: says all these things like does that to me? It's
- 45:10Speaker 1: like I roll my eyes a little bit. Of course
- 45:11Speaker 1: you're his college coach, But what do you make of
- 45:14Speaker 1: that Harball putting his name on it like this is
- 45:17Speaker 1: the guy?
- 45:18Speaker 4: Well, I'll say this, and so much respect for for
- 45:21Speaker 4: Jim Harbon what he's done this whole career. And he
- 45:24Speaker 4: brought a you know, brought a national championship to my
- 45:27Speaker 4: alma mater, which was awesome.
- 45:29Speaker 3: But he's in a great situation right now. He's got
- 45:31Speaker 3: Justin Herbert and.
- 45:32Speaker 1: No one, no one's wondering if he's drafted him at five.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Yeah, so he doesn't have to put his money where
- 45:36Speaker 4: his mouth is right like he can say and I'm
- 45:38Speaker 4: sure Jim believes all this stuff. In me, shoot, you
- 45:40Speaker 4: win a national championship with people you talk to players
- 45:42Speaker 4: and coaches. You would you win a national championship or
- 45:45Speaker 4: a Super Bowl with a group of men like that's
- 45:47Speaker 4: pretty special and you're gonna a special feelings about those guys.
- 45:50Speaker 4: So I'm sure Jim believes every word he's saying. But again,
- 45:54Speaker 4: he doesn't have to draft him up because he's got Justine.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Okay, I want to talk about the Masters with you
- 45:59Speaker 1: because you're a golf guy and you might be attending.
- 46:02Speaker 1: But maybe we'll do that next week or a week
- 46:04Speaker 1: after that and we'll get the full rate cap in
- 46:06Speaker 1: the In the meantime, keep on doing what you're doing
- 46:11Speaker 1: and I'll be following you on Twitter or x but
- 46:13Speaker 1: also i'll be talking with you. Thank you so much
- 46:16Speaker 1: for joining. This is really illuminating stuff, especially on DJ Burns.
- 46:19Speaker 1: And we're less than a month away, dude, And then
- 46:21Speaker 1: I know you're already into Senior Bowl twenty twenty five.
- 46:24Speaker 1: I know it.
- 46:25Speaker 3: We are, Yeah, we started that. But yeah, this was awesome, Peter,
- 46:27Speaker 3: thanks for having me back home.
- 46:29Speaker 1: You're the man. Jim Naggy, executive director of Reese's Senior Bowl,
- 46:32Speaker 1: and I saw it firsthand. The unofficial mayor of Mobile, Alabama.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Thank you did.
- 46:38Speaker 3: Thanks man.
- 46:46Speaker 1: All Right, so I'm validated DJ Burns could get an
- 46:50Speaker 1: NFL shot here, Aaron, based on what Jim's saying.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, so I had seen your tweet. I
- 46:58Speaker 2: then saw your tweet hosted multiple times, like in the
- 47:01Speaker 2: NFL subreddit, in the Bills subreddit, like Bill's fans were like,
- 47:05Speaker 2: I wonder if this guy I could work, you know,
- 47:07Speaker 2: for us, So not only I think was there a
- 47:10Speaker 2: lot of external validation, then having Jim come in here
- 47:14Speaker 2: and talk about it and talk about his buddy who
- 47:17Speaker 2: also had been keeping an eye on him. Yeah, that's
- 47:19Speaker 2: that's pretty exciting.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Yeah, his work is amazing. It is. And like the
- 47:24Speaker 1: sophistication of these NFL front offices, we go big on
- 47:26Speaker 1: how they use analytics and all this stuff, but there
- 47:29Speaker 1: are holes. And Jim says it like they're not watching
- 47:32Speaker 1: college hoops. So yes, it's possible. This guy played in
- 47:35Speaker 1: the ACC and played at Winthrop and was the Big
- 47:37Speaker 1: South Conference Player of the Year last year two years
- 47:40Speaker 1: ago and still was not discovered by an NFL scout.
- 47:43Speaker 1: And Jim has a friend who's in the research triangle
- 47:46Speaker 1: who says, yes, I've been keeping an eye on him,
- 47:47Speaker 1: but like, yeah, like the tournament run. I remember George Mason,
- 47:51Speaker 1: I remember Jihan Lewis. It was a big man who
- 47:53Speaker 1: had some you know, a great couple of games. They
- 47:56Speaker 1: beat Yukon and Rudy Gay and there was two thousand
- 47:58Speaker 1: and six and George Mason makes us run and he
- 48:00Speaker 1: was their big man, and he got a try out
- 48:01Speaker 1: with the Giants. I think he even signed a deal
- 48:03Speaker 1: with the Giants. And he had no football history as
- 48:07Speaker 1: a football player in college. So I think it's fascinating.
- 48:11Speaker 1: I also thought the reaction was fascinating, which I kind
- 48:13Speaker 1: of hit on with Jim there, Like people were really
- 48:15Speaker 1: triggered by it, and a lot of people thought it
- 48:17Speaker 1: was an April Fools joke. I don't get that. Why
- 48:18Speaker 1: would that be an April Fools joke. The guy is
- 48:20Speaker 1: six foot seven and three hundred pounds, Like that's a
- 48:23Speaker 1: football player's body.
- 48:25Speaker 2: I think you kind of can't post anything on April first,
- 48:30Speaker 2: Like if you say anything, people are gonna think maybe
- 48:33Speaker 2: it's fake totally, but yeah, you know it is, like
- 48:38Speaker 2: for whatever reason, it's always a news story if some
- 48:40Speaker 2: team is like we're signing a former rugby player, because
- 48:44Speaker 2: he's never played American football, but we think he's got
- 48:48Speaker 2: the athletic ability to do this, and it's a big
- 48:49Speaker 2: news story when it doesn't necessarily need to be. And
- 48:52Speaker 2: this is just like in the lead up to the draft,
- 48:55Speaker 2: where we've spent so much time arguing about Marvin Harrison
- 48:59Speaker 2: or Eleak Neighbors, and all of a sudden, here's this
- 49:01Speaker 2: guy coming out of nowhere who plays basketball, and it's like, wait,
- 49:03Speaker 2: you're screwing up what I had in my head of
- 49:06Speaker 2: like who are the important potential offensive linemen in this draft?
- 49:09Speaker 2: And now there's this new guy. So I can see
- 49:12Speaker 2: how people could find a way to be upset about
- 49:16Speaker 2: something that's not worth being upset about.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Got it?
- 49:19Speaker 2: Uh?
- 49:20Speaker 1: In closing, I think I'm gonna go see Tim Robinson
- 49:24Speaker 1: tonight at Deacon Theater. Are you a fan?
- 49:27Speaker 2: Yeah? I didn't even know he was doing a thing.
- 49:31Speaker 1: The biggest show. He can have no idea what it entails.
- 49:35Speaker 4: Uh.
- 49:36Speaker 1: I was asked if I wanted to go, and I
- 49:38Speaker 1: think I want to go. It's pouring rain, but I
- 49:40Speaker 1: will have a full recap on our next podcast. As
- 49:43Speaker 1: Aaron is now looking through a stack of T shirts
- 49:46Speaker 1: and it appears. He probably has a Tim Robinson T
- 49:50Speaker 1: shirt and it is Yep, there we go. There it is,
- 49:52Speaker 1: there it is. It's a it's a reference to the netflixtion.
- 49:56Speaker 1: There we go. I love it. I'll give you a
- 49:59Speaker 1: full recap over text on it. Aaron wall Kaufman chasing English,
- 50:03Speaker 1: the iHeart Team. Let's get these social media clips out,
- 50:05Speaker 1: let's go all, let's make news. Let's continue on with
- 50:10Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger. So I appreciate you guys,
- 50:12Speaker 1: everyone listening. Hope you enjoyed. The Season with Peter Schrager
