- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from inside the chicken coop.
- 0:31Just doing a little head check, making sure everybody's good
- 0:33before they go off for their day.
- 0:35And apparently our girl Wanda wants to say hello to everybody
- 0:38because she's got a lot to say going on.
- 0:41So today we're going to talk about why do most of us believe
- 0:46we fail at managing our emotions.
- 0:49So first of all, emotions are like herding cats.
- 0:51I want to be very clear about this.
- 0:53Emotions are like herding cats. They are all over the place.
- 0:57And you've heard me say this before on other podcasts, but
- 1:00you know, it's projected that we have between 60 to 80 thousand
- 1:03thoughts a day. Some people project up to
- 1:05100,000 thoughts per day, and of those 100,000 thoughts or up to
- 1:10100,000 thoughts, we have 2/3 of them repeated from the day
- 1:14before. It's no accident that they're
- 1:17hard to manage. There's a lot going on.
- 1:19Not to mention that everybody in the world is buying for your
- 1:23attention, trying to get you to buy this.
- 1:25Pay attention to this. Look at me, Influencers are
- 1:28everywhere. Everybody's asking if you're
- 1:31your family. Everybody's trying to capture a
- 1:34moment of your time to get your attention.
- 1:37And you know, here we are trying to manage ourselves and trying
- 1:42to stay calm with all of our buttons, with all of our
- 1:45beliefs, with all the things that we have adopted from other
- 1:47people. We all have these issues and
- 1:50Lord knows that it's completely complex to be able to manage
- 1:55yourself in all of this chaos, which is why it's so important
- 1:59to to one pause. You know, if any of you have
- 2:03read my book who's Driving Your bus?
- 2:06That there is a very distinct line in there where we say you
- 2:09have to stop, reflect, choose, redirect.
- 2:13So when that stop comes up, you have to ask yourself, you
- 2:16reflecting, where am I right now?
- 2:18Where am I? What am I giving my attention
- 2:19to? What is the buttons that's being
- 2:21pushed? What is the emotion I'm in?
- 2:23Because if you can't figure out where you currently are, it's
- 2:26impossible to figure out where you want to go next.
- 2:29So it's just like being in the car and being lost.
- 2:31If I called one of you and I said, hey, listen, I'm trying to
- 2:33get to your house and I'm lost, you'd say, well, where are you?
- 2:36And if I said to you, I don't know, you'd say, well, I can't
- 2:39help you unless I know where you are.
- 2:42And so just like in a coaching session, when someone calls and
- 2:46they say to me, I'm so upset I have this going on or this going
- 2:49on. I the very first thing that I
- 2:50always say to them is, OK, what's the main thought going on
- 2:54in your head? What's the main focus going on
- 2:55in your head? And if I can nail down what that
- 2:58main focus is that I can help them figure their way out of it.
- 3:02So today I want to give you guys this the same pattern because
- 3:06nothing is more important than that.
- 3:07Stop and reflect and then choosing and redirecting.
- 3:10Yes, but the first part of it is so critical.
- 3:13Stop, just stop yourself from, from the, the constant chatter
- 3:17of saying, Oh my God, I'm all over the place because we, I
- 3:20can't tell you how many times I hear people say that I'm all
- 3:22over the place. And I know there are times when
- 3:25I get really excited about things.
- 3:27Perfect example, the other day I was in the garden center and I
- 3:29had this, I would call it an experience with this girl that
- 3:34worked there because she was helping me with a problem.
- 3:36And she said something that I, I heard hadn't heard that I could
- 3:40have certain plants that I had never been able thought I was
- 3:44able to have here in the heat. And she said, no, as long as you
- 3:48do them like this and this and this, you can have them.
- 3:50And I was from that moment forward, my head was spinning
- 3:53because all these ideas were running.
- 3:55And I was excited and I was anxious that I wanted to get the
- 3:58ones that were on the floor before someone else got them.
- 4:00There was so many different things happening in my head all
- 4:02at once. And I had to legitimately could
- 4:06not get control of it. So I'm telling you, even when we
- 4:08think we know all this stuff, we're still going to have these
- 4:11things happen. My husband walked over and he
- 4:12looked at me and he's like, you're all over the place.
- 4:14I'm like, yeah, I am really. I am.
- 4:16So it it, it is not unusual to have that happen.
- 4:21Common. It's really, really common.
- 4:23But the trick, the trick you have to nail down is hitting
- 4:27that pause button, hitting that stop button so that you can just
- 4:31get yourself centered. Take a deep breath.
- 4:34Where am I right now? Getting yourself the primary,
- 4:38where you are in your head is the distinction.
- 4:42And stop beating yourself up for thinking that you fail at this
- 4:46all the time because most of us, most of us are very capable of
- 4:50doing this. Unless you have been diagnosed
- 4:52with something that tells you you have a disorder or an
- 4:57inability to manage this, the majority of us can manage this
- 5:02if we follow the rules. First of all, stop blaming
- 5:06yourself because the beatings will continue until morale
- 5:08improve. Never works ever works.
- 5:10Ever works doesn't get you where you want to go, so you have to
- 5:15pause or stop, whichever word works for you.
- 5:19And then you say, OK, what is my biggest outcome right now?
- 5:23What is the thing that I want more than anything right now?
- 5:26What is the thing that I need to focus on more than anything
- 5:29right now? And then do that.
- 5:32Do that one thing and then you can you can bring yourself back
- 5:36to, you know, that center of saying, well, why do I think I
- 5:40fail at this all the time? You don't fail it at all the
- 5:42time. You may fail sometimes we all do
- 5:45I do. But it's not all the time.
- 5:47It's it's incremental, it's moment.
- 5:49It's just in the moments. But you can bring yourself back
- 5:52and you just have to allow yourself the space and the grace
- 5:55to say, yeah, OK, I had a hiccup.
- 5:59I didn't fail because if you don't give up, you don't fail.
- 6:03That's the rule. If you don't give up, you don't
- 6:05fail. If you keep resetting, keep
- 6:08trying again, you are going to get there.
- 6:11You're going to get to that point.
- 6:13If you keep working at it, if you keep asking better
- 6:16questions, if you keep hitting the pause button and you keep
- 6:18doing the right things, I promise you, you will get there.
- 6:21So I hope you hope you guys have a great day.
- 6:23I will see you tomorrow and work on this piece because it's
- 6:26critical to success. Have a great one.
- 6:30Bye.
