- 0:00Speaker 1: This is The Bad Hire, the show with the best
- 0:02Speaker 1: stories about the worst employees.
- 0:05Speaker 2: We fired him, of course.
- 0:06Speaker 1: People are crazy. It's like an HR nightmare. Right? One
- 0:10Speaker 1: bad hire stole all of it.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Crazy stuff.
- 0:13Speaker 3: She got what she deserved.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Oh.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm your host, Ken Monroe, and every week we dive
- 0:19Speaker 1: into real-life stories... From the wild world of work and
- 0:23Speaker 1: what can happen when the wrong person gets the job.
- 0:27Speaker 1: These stories aren't just crazy, they're cautionary tales about lessons
- 0:31Speaker 1: learned the hard way. Let's get started. Hey everyone, welcome
- 0:36Speaker 1: back to The Bad Hire.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Welcome.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Hi.
- 0:39Speaker 1: This is the show where the best stories happen about
- 0:43Speaker 1: the worst employees or maybe the employees having the worst
- 0:46Speaker 1: day ever. I'm back with Nathan and Emma. How are
- 0:51Speaker 1: you guys doing?
- 0:52Speaker 4: Welcome.
- 0:52Speaker 5: I'm good.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I was just saying.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I'm fine.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You good?
- 0:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:57Speaker 5: I'm fine. It's been a long day, you know.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah, we have recorded a lot of content.
- 1:00Speaker 1: She's repping state today.
- 1:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Go pack.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Oh, there you go. Your brother's there, right? Yep.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Cool. Right now. My daughter was there.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Oh, yeah?
- 1:10Speaker 1: No, my sister. She would have freaked out if she heard.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Me say that.
- 1:12Speaker 5: It's a whole family thing.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Dad went there.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Uncle went there.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I went there.
- 1:15Speaker 2: My brother's there.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Did you have a choice, honestly?
- 1:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Did you want to go anyplace else?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Well, yes, but at the time, not for what I
- 1:35Speaker 4: wanted to do at the time.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Yeah. Because I wanted to be a vet.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I wanted to be a vet a long time, too.
- 1:41Speaker 2: That was my big thing.
- 1:42Speaker 1: So you went to state initially to be a vet?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:45Speaker 1: She's so afraid to say that in front of me.
- 1:47Speaker 1: She's afraid of the rabbit hole, it'll go down.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Well, that's how I was with Virginia Tech.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Yeah, just a little bit. Don't talk about animals.
- 1:53Speaker 2: We don't talk about animals out here. No animals talk. Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 2: I went to Virginia Tech... I grew up watching Animal Planet,
- 2:01Speaker 2: and I was like, how hard can that be? And
- 2:04Speaker 2: then I went to study it, and I was like, oh,
- 2:05Speaker 2: that's pretty hard.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I would tell you. They got to do communications instead.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I'll just play Frisbee and do a bunch of marketing classes.
- 2:11Speaker 4: I would tell you why I wanted to be a vet,
- 2:13Speaker 4: but I'm not going to get into all that because
- 2:15Speaker 4: then Ken will start making fun of me.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I don't make fun of you.
- 2:18Speaker 5: And then I just don't want to get into it.
- 2:20Speaker 1: That's totally not what I do.
- 2:20Speaker 5: But I wanted to be a vet up until my
- 2:22Speaker 5: junior year of high school.
- 2:23Speaker 1: You know I love your background.
- 2:26Speaker 5: I worked in an animal hospital.
- 2:29Speaker 2: And um you've come a long way that.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Was really eye-opening and that made me realize that i
- 2:35Speaker 4: just didn't i didn't want to.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Do that yeah that's good that's good i like it
- 2:38Speaker 1: you know you should when you're young you should get
- 2:41Speaker 1: in there when you know you have a dream you
- 2:42Speaker 1: should get.
- 2:43Speaker 4: There experience it i think that was like right before
- 2:45Speaker 4: i started touring colleges too so even even then i
- 2:50Speaker 4: at the time when i toured state i didn't like
- 2:52Speaker 4: it as much as the other campuses that i toured
- 2:55Speaker 4: but I.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Ended up really, really liking it. Yeah, the state's beautiful.
- 2:58Speaker 4: I think it was because it was so big that
- 3:00Speaker 4: I was kind of overwhelmed because I'm not used to
- 3:02Speaker 4: that kind of area.
- 3:03Speaker 5: And everything like that.
- 3:04Speaker 2: We're talking about NC State, by the way.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Yes, NC State.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah. That's cool.
- 3:09Speaker 1: See, everybody that was listening to every state, they were
- 3:13Speaker 1: talking about state. Everybody's got a state.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Florida State.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Because I went to Virginia Tech, and in Virginia, everybody
- 3:18Speaker 2: knows that. But then I moved to California, and nobody's even, like,
- 3:21Speaker 2: heard of Virginia Tech.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 3:22Speaker 5: Right.
- 3:23Speaker 2: So when you.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Say state out there, it means something different to every state. Yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I graduated, oh, my goodness, almost two years ago.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Growing up. It's crazy. Yeah.
- 3:35Speaker 5: I'm old and whatever.
- 3:36Speaker 1: It's their first job, right? Yep.
- 3:39Speaker 4: It is.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And she's crushing it.
- 3:40Speaker 2: It is. It's been fun.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Handles our social media.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah. handles some of the things. She's doing a lot
- 3:47Speaker 2: of the podcast work. Doing a good job. A bunch
- 3:49Speaker 2: of design stuff.
- 3:50Speaker 1: That was a good hire. Oh, yeah. I think we
- 3:55Speaker 1: should every once in a while throw in a good
- 3:57Speaker 1: hire show. This is a bad hire, but every once
- 4:00Speaker 1: in a while, just to cross out, we'll write in good,
- 4:03Speaker 1: we'll tell.
- 4:03Speaker 2: A good hire story.
- 4:04Speaker 5: This is a bad hire, but sometimes you get people
- 4:05Speaker 5: like Emma.
- 4:06Speaker 1: She's a bad hire gone good. Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 2: She really turned her life around back from her NC
- 4:16Speaker 2: State days. Emma's the redemption story. We'll tell you about
- 4:19Speaker 2: her story.
- 4:21Speaker 1: She came here.
- 4:23Speaker 5: I wasn't even in marketing when I came here either.
- 4:25Speaker 1: No, you weren't.
- 4:26Speaker 2: No.
- 4:27Speaker 1: She was brought in in the tech department.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But you're not the only one. I feel like a
- 4:32Speaker 2: lot of people at BTEX have moved around. I always forget.
- 4:35Speaker 5: That because even in college I changed my major like
- 4:37Speaker 5: five times.
- 4:37Speaker 1: No, me too.
- 4:39Speaker 4: The fact that I'm not even in my major right
- 4:41Speaker 4: now doesn't surprise me.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I think that's a common marketing thing. Well, do you
- 4:44Speaker 2: like what you're doing?
- 4:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I like marketing, yeah.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Do you love it or you just like it?
- 4:49Speaker 5: I just like it.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It's a lot of work.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Oh, my God. She just said, I just like it.
- 4:54Speaker 2: She's talking to the owner.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Here's the owner of the company. Do you love your job?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I just like it.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Would you rather me lie?
- 5:02Speaker 2: No, I don't ever want you to lie. That would
- 5:04Speaker 2: be bad.
- 5:04Speaker 1: No.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Bad hire behavior. And no, you're a good hire.
- 5:08Speaker 4: It's just not what I expected. It's like every day
- 5:10Speaker 4: is like a learning experience, which is good, but.
- 5:14Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Well, you're crafty and thoughtful and a great writer and
- 5:20Speaker 1: also gifted in design just kind of by accident. Not
- 5:24Speaker 1: by accident, but.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Well, yeah, because I grew up doing design stuff, and
- 5:28Speaker 4: I did want to do that for a little bit, too.
- 5:29Speaker 5: It just didn't go that way.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Well, I'm hopeful that you will find your path here
- 5:34Speaker 1: in a way that makes you very happy.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm doing it in different ways.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Doing great. Yeah, so if you found our podcast through
- 5:43Speaker 2: social media, it's because Emma's putting it out there and
- 5:46Speaker 2: we're getting seen on TikTok and YouTube and stuff like that.
- 5:49Speaker 4: If you see somebody being snappy or funny in the replies,
- 5:53Speaker 4: it's me.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. If you're saying something in the comments
- 5:59Speaker 2: and we snap back at you, that's all Emma.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yep, it is me.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Who do you think you're talking to?
- 6:04Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 6:06Speaker 2: All right.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Well, don't forget we were running that $ 10, 000 contest. We
- 6:08Speaker 1: always should mention that before we get started.
- 6:10Speaker 2: We have a couple of submissions today that we're reading.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Okay. Super cool. We're going to see a couple. So
- 6:13Speaker 1: we got some submissions we're going to read. And I
- 6:16Speaker 1: think we've got a, one of the video segments. So
- 6:19Speaker 1: if you want to get on the show, you want
- 6:21Speaker 1: your story told, you have some story that you'd like
- 6:24Speaker 1: to tell. There's a couple ways to do it. You
- 6:26Speaker 1: can submit it online and go to the bad hire.com
- 6:29Speaker 1: and do it. You can producers an email over to
- 6:32Speaker 1: producers at the bad hire.com. But, What you'll find is
- 6:36Speaker 1: probably you'll get right into a process where one of
- 6:39Speaker 1: our booking guy will give you a call. He'll reach
- 6:42Speaker 1: out to you, try to get a few minutes where
- 6:44Speaker 1: they talk to you on the phone, and then book
- 6:46Speaker 1: a slot for you to have an individual private segment
- 6:49Speaker 1: where one of the producers of the show, Nathan, Emma, Morgan,
- 6:55Speaker 1: will then potentially interview you and do the segment live,
- 7:01Speaker 1: recorded rather, And then we'll roll in the clips during
- 7:04Speaker 1: the show and watch. And so we've been building those
- 7:07Speaker 1: up and kind of putting those in the bank. And
- 7:09Speaker 1: we're starting, you know, I think this show we're going
- 7:11Speaker 1: to do one for the first time. So I'm excited
- 7:13Speaker 1: about that.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I've recorded a handful of them so far. And
- 7:16Speaker 2: I know they might be distributed around the team.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You've met some interesting people, bro.
- 7:20Speaker 2: It's been really fun. I mean, just like first, just
- 7:22Speaker 2: the salt of the earth kind.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Of recruiters that are just getting the job done every day.
- 7:26Speaker 1: And then you had that. The one dude who's like
- 7:29Speaker 1: a former band manager. Oh yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Super cool. Yeah. Yeah. I think, I think we're going
- 7:33Speaker 2: to be putting out, if we haven't already, by the
- 7:35Speaker 2: time this one comes out, like the full, our full
- 7:37Speaker 2: conversation with him.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Super interesting. Super nice. Has lots of stories, but also
- 7:42Speaker 2: has lots of cool experience. So it's been fun because
- 7:45Speaker 2: I think our general premise of the show has rang
- 7:48Speaker 2: true with people. We're like, Hey, we just noticed if
- 7:50Speaker 2: you're in recruiting, you got a story. And everybody I
- 7:53Speaker 2: tell that to, they're all like, oh, yeah, I've got it.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Most of the time. So it's been fun.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Well, I'm hoping, you know, I hope there gets to be,
- 8:03Speaker 1: I think it's a bit therapeutic for people, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 1: I mean, to be able to just, because the overwhelming
- 8:08Speaker 1: majority of like hoop recruiters, HR folks, owners, whatever, hire,
- 8:15Speaker 1: probably the overall majority is good hires, right? And you just,
- 8:19Speaker 1: these bad hires happen and, you know, you can, Make
- 8:22Speaker 1: light of them a little bit because all the things
- 8:25Speaker 1: we do, all the processes you put in place are
- 8:27Speaker 1: all to try to avoid those things, right? And then so,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you know, God bless the HR folks, recruiters who, you know,
- 8:36Speaker 1: their DNA is all over this. But they all got
- 8:39Speaker 1: a story. So I hope they'll tell them. And we'll
- 8:43Speaker 1: pick the best one this year and give them $ 10, 000
- 8:45Speaker 1: because we think they're that.
- 8:46Speaker 2: That would be a fun day.
- 8:47Speaker 1: They're that good.
- 8:48Speaker 2: We should write them one of those huge checks.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that'd be fun. It might cost $ 8, 000 to print that,
- 8:53Speaker 2: but it'll be worth it.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Depending on where they're from, we'll either fly them here
- 8:58Speaker 1: or we'll go there.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that'd be fun. Hopefully they're in Hawaii.
- 9:03Speaker 1: All right, I'll kick us off today, okay? So this
- 9:05Speaker 1: story is, was this submitted?
- 9:08Speaker 2: Let me see yours. I don't think yours was.
- 9:11Speaker 1: This is one that we found. All right, so the
- 9:13Speaker 1: cranky candidate. There's one thing that truly is scary, and
- 9:18Speaker 1: that's an unhedged candidate bent on revenge. Once upon a time,
- 9:23Speaker 1: I forgot to send a candidate a calendar invite for
- 9:26Speaker 1: an interview. It was a simple mistake. I totally get that.
- 9:29Speaker 1: One that anyone could have made. Before I had the
- 9:32Speaker 1: chance to reach out and apologize, she took it upon
- 9:35Speaker 1: herself to call me and berate me for my error.
- 9:39Speaker 2: That was quick. Okay.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Okay. I'm trying to get a job with you. Let
- 9:43Speaker 1: me berate you. Not only did she think it was
- 9:45Speaker 1: clearly an intentional mistake on my part. Okay. So she
- 9:49Speaker 1: thought she was being slighted. But she felt the need
- 9:52Speaker 1: to threaten to reach out to my supervisor and the
- 9:55Speaker 1: CEO to get me fired. Wow. The angry candidate then
- 9:58Speaker 1: did a research. She found the email. to all the
- 10:00Speaker 1: company's upper management, including the CEO, founder, some practice managers.
- 10:05Speaker 1: She sent a scathing review demanding I be fired immediately.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Wow.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Not only that. She stalked him? She chose to use
- 10:14Speaker 1: some non-PC names and terms to describe me.
- 10:17Speaker 3: What?
- 10:18Speaker 1: Totally toxic. Fortunately, my company's management forgave me for the invite,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I guess.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 10:26Speaker 1: You had to pat her on the back for putting
- 10:28Speaker 1: up with this and decided it was the candidate that
- 10:31Speaker 1: was crazy scary. That's good. So we took her out
- 10:34Speaker 1: of our database.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Wow.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 10:36Speaker 4: So you're saying she stalked him and got all this
- 10:41Speaker 4: dirt on him and then sent.
- 10:42Speaker 1: It to him? She just went down and found all
- 10:45Speaker 1: the emails to all the people.
- 10:47Speaker 5: How does she do that?
- 10:48Speaker 2: LinkedIn? I don't know. Let's actually go through her plan.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Let's say she does it successfully and gets that person out.
- 10:57Speaker 2: She gets the job and she's like, all right, we
- 10:59Speaker 2: got that interviewer out. But you just like literally, you know,
- 11:02Speaker 2: in a super toxic way, called her out. And now
- 11:04Speaker 2: you want to start your job off that way? Like,
- 11:07Speaker 2: not really a great plan either way. You know what
- 11:09Speaker 2: I mean?
- 11:09Speaker 5: Like, oh, remember how you got here?
- 11:10Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, when I blackmailed you.
- 11:14Speaker 5: Oh, how did you get here?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I just threatened the person who forgot my
- 11:18Speaker 2: calendar invite.
- 11:19Speaker 1: If you think about recruiting, you know, you cast a
- 11:24Speaker 1: wide net, draw a lot of people in, review the resumes,
- 11:27Speaker 1: call it down, have interviews, call it down, get down
- 11:29Speaker 1: to a single person, right?
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 1: That's the way a lot of it's done, right? Yeah.
- 11:34Speaker 1: you know, if you, if you, and regardless of the process,
- 11:37Speaker 1: you get down to them, there was more than one.
- 11:40Speaker 1: So the recruiter's life is hurting people's feelings more often
- 11:44Speaker 1: than making people happy. I mean, sorry, you know, let's
- 11:49Speaker 1: say they get down to three, four, you know, that's
- 11:52Speaker 1: three or four people that are going to be upset
- 11:55Speaker 1: when the one wins the role. And so they live,
- 11:59Speaker 1: they live the life of delivering disappointment on top of like,
- 12:03Speaker 1: You know, the one person's super happy. They're, you know,
- 12:05Speaker 1: and they're like, yeah, it's so awesome. And then they
- 12:07Speaker 1: got to like, oh, I got to go tell five people.
- 12:09Speaker 2: That's true. Like, I guess I didn't think about that,
- 12:11Speaker 2: that for every job and somebody who's trying to fill
- 12:13Speaker 2: that job, it's 90% bad news to all the people
- 12:17Speaker 2: that are involved. And then it's that one little small
- 12:19Speaker 2: percentage of the good news to one person gets the job.
- 12:22Speaker 1: That's tough. Everybody goes home crying at but one.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Which I'm sure that's a really fulfilling moment when they
- 12:28Speaker 2: get to deliver that good news when it works out.
- 12:30Speaker 2: But that's a lot of letdown along the way, I guess.
- 12:33Speaker 2: That's hard.
- 12:34Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Before we dive back into the chaos on the bad hire,
- 12:37Speaker 1: this episode is brought to you by B-Checks. Hiring shouldn't
- 12:41Speaker 1: feel like rolling the dice. Background checks should come with
- 12:44Speaker 1: great tech, seamless integration, and customer service that delivers. That's B-Checks.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Lightning-fast results, unmatched accuracy, built-in fraud prevention. We help you
- 12:55Speaker 1: hire the right people. Now, B-Checks plugs into over 100

- 13:05Speaker 1: and backed by top-level service. Protect your team. Protect your reputation.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Protect yourself.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Okay, let me do my story first that was through
- 13:22Speaker 2: one of these calls, these virtual calls with one of
- 13:24Speaker 2: the virtual guests. So this is Sheila, and she just retired,
- 13:30Speaker 2: but she actually used to work.
- 13:32Speaker 1: For Zoom.
- 13:32Speaker 2: She said she was hiring for Zoom during like the
- 13:36Speaker 2: peak of COVID. Oh, with Zoom, it totally exploded. If
- 13:40Speaker 2: you can imagine that many people that she had to hire.
- 13:42Speaker 2: So she's super legit. So we'll definitely tag her when
- 13:45Speaker 2: we post this out. But this is one of the
- 13:47Speaker 2: stories that she told me in my interview with her.
- 13:49Speaker 2: So if we could play this.
- 13:52Speaker 3: So our candidate, and I'm going to call her Candy,
- 13:55Speaker 3: looked great on paper. So I went out to the
- 13:57Speaker 3: lobby to bring Candy back to the interview area. She
- 14:00Speaker 3: was seated in the lobby next to a younger man
- 14:04Speaker 3: who looked kind of scruffy. He was in a torn
- 14:06Speaker 3: t-shirt and baggy jeans. And she got up to come
- 14:09Speaker 3: back after I called her name. And he also got
- 14:11Speaker 3: up and gave her a kiss and said, good luck, honey.
- 14:14Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, okay. This was not on
- 14:17Speaker 3: my bingo card that we would come as a couple
- 14:19Speaker 3: to our interview. So she came back and we started
- 14:21Speaker 3: her interview and she seemed kind of nervous. After an
- 14:25Speaker 3: unusually long and rambly answer, kind of like noticed looking
- 14:29Speaker 3: at each other across the table and the leader of
- 14:32Speaker 3: our team said, hey, you know what? Thank you so
- 14:34Speaker 3: much for coming in. We'll be in touch. So I
- 14:37Speaker 3: grabbed her and escorted her out to the exit to
- 14:40Speaker 3: the lobby and So I went back to the interview
- 14:42Speaker 3: space and they were discussing the candidate and the guard
- 14:45Speaker 3: and the maintenance man rushed into the interview room. And
- 14:48Speaker 3: they were like, whatever you do, do not hire that
- 14:50Speaker 3: woman for this job. We're like, oh, my God, what's
- 14:53Speaker 3: going on? So apparently shortly after she left the lobby
- 14:56Speaker 3: for her interview, her boyfriend wanted to use the restroom.
- 14:59Speaker 3: He did not have a public restroom available. And the
- 15:02Speaker 3: guard told him that. and explained to him that if
- 15:04Speaker 3: he wanted to go into the security area, he'd have
- 15:07Speaker 3: to have an ID and an escort. Well, he did
- 15:09Speaker 3: not have an ID, started screaming at the guard. That
- 15:12Speaker 3: caused the maintenance man to come out of his office
- 15:14Speaker 3: to see what was going on. And he became more
- 15:17Speaker 3: and more belligerent until the guard and the maintenance man
- 15:21Speaker 3: had to ask him to leave the building. So he
- 15:23Speaker 3: left the building, headed out for his car, and then
- 15:25Speaker 3: he stopped at the edge of the parking lot, turned
- 15:28Speaker 3: around to face the building, and unzipped and started urinating
- 15:32Speaker 3: in the short, stopping the hedges and just did it.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Zipped up and went to his car. So the guard
- 15:39Speaker 3: and the maintenance man went out and told them specifically
- 15:42Speaker 3: that he was trespassed off the property. He had to
- 15:44Speaker 3: leave and that they would let his girlfriend know that
- 15:48Speaker 3: he was parked on the public street right around the corner.
- 15:50Speaker 3: So she was pretty shocked when he wasn't in the
- 15:53Speaker 3: lobby and really distressed that she had to walk a
- 15:56Speaker 3: half a block to get to the car. And needless
- 15:59Speaker 3: to say, we did not hire her.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Well, now I feel kind of bad because, like, what,
- 16:04Speaker 5: they didn't hire her because of him?
- 16:06Speaker 2: Well, she brought him.
- 16:07Speaker 1: That's her choice. There's no way that was the first
- 16:10Speaker 1: sign of his crazy behavior.
- 16:13Speaker 5: That is kind of funny, though.
- 16:14Speaker 4: It also reminds me of that story that we read,
- 16:16Speaker 4: I don't know if it was last episode or a
- 16:19Speaker 4: couple episodes ago. of the woman that urinated in the
- 16:23Speaker 4: parking lot because she wanted to avoid work by just
- 16:27Speaker 4: sitting in the car all day, and then she just
- 16:29Speaker 4: wouldn't go inside to use the bathroom.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I never fully understood that story. Me neither. How
- 16:33Speaker 1: someone could think that.
- 16:34Speaker 2: It's a weird red flag theme for us to have,
- 16:36Speaker 2: just peeing in the parking lot with the candidates. Like, oh,
- 16:39Speaker 2: that's the red flag to look out for, I guess.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I don't know if that's a super relatable story, but
- 16:42Speaker 2: it's happened more than once, which is kind of crazy.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I bet there are so many... uh recruiters and hiring
- 16:50Speaker 1: managers and stuff out there that have had like these
- 16:55Speaker 1: dual interview things i've read that they're that some of
- 16:58Speaker 1: gen z's have brought their parents to an interview i've
- 17:03Speaker 1: heard that you know just it's probably some helicopter parent
- 17:06Speaker 1: who's so involved and is like you know i'll come
- 17:10Speaker 1: to interview with you honey and yeah help, help you
- 17:13Speaker 1: get through this. They'll understand.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Or maybe their, their ride, you know, to the interview.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Well, I gave him the ride too.
- 17:20Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 1: So I don't know. That's, that's, That's a great story.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I bet that's not the, you know.
- 17:27Speaker 5: I still feel kind of bad.
- 17:28Speaker 2: It is tough. For her to get blamed.
- 17:31Speaker 5: You know that when the maintenance guy had to come.
- 17:33Speaker 2: In and be like, do not hire her.
- 17:36Speaker 1: We don't ever want him near here again.
- 17:38Speaker 2: The scruffy boyfriend.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Right? Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I thought that was funny.
- 17:42Speaker 1: That is interesting that he came with her and sat
- 17:45Speaker 1: in the lobby.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 2: He was being supportive, I guess. Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 4: I guess.
- 17:49Speaker 2: But then kind of had a real fight.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Did you go sit in the lobby there and Your
- 17:54Speaker 1: wife's interviews when you all were dating?
- 17:56Speaker 2: No, I can't say that I did.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Did you wait in the car? No, I just let
- 17:59Speaker 1: her be in the car. You didn't even go with her?
- 18:02Speaker 2: I guess not. Bro. You don't remember? I also didn't
- 18:05Speaker 2: pee in the parking lot either. But we both have
- 18:09Speaker 2: jobs today, so it was good.
- 18:11Speaker 1: There you go.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Okay, let me get on to my second story. This
- 18:15Speaker 2: one's a little quick. This was also submitted for the contest,
- 18:17Speaker 2: so more opportunities for people to win $ 10, 000. Okay, at
- 18:22Speaker 2: the time this happened... I was part of the executive
- 18:24Speaker 2: leadership team at a growing organization responsible for hiring and firing.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I'd interviewed hundreds of candidates, and I genuinely believed that
- 18:32Speaker 2: I had a good instinct for people. We were hiring
- 18:36Speaker 2: for a front office role. This person would be the
- 18:37Speaker 2: face and the filter of the organization. They would touch
- 18:41Speaker 2: everything on a day-to-day basis, clients, staff, and operations on
- 18:46Speaker 2: a daily basis. On paper, our newest candidate looked solid.
- 18:50Speaker 2: They had a stable resume, relevant experience, But in the interview,
- 18:55Speaker 2: she seemed like the right fit, and she talked about
- 18:57Speaker 2: being dependable, staying organized, supporting the team behind the scenes,
- 19:01Speaker 2: no red flags. Another executive interviewed her with me, and
- 19:05Speaker 2: we were completely aligned on this. References checked out. We
- 19:09Speaker 2: all felt confident. Then her first day came along. The
- 19:13Speaker 2: person who walked in that door was not the same
- 19:16Speaker 2: person that we interviewed.
- 19:17Speaker 5: It's always the first day.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Always the first day. So it was actually the same person. Okay.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I was confused when I first heard that.
- 19:22Speaker 1: We've had that. We've heard stories about people interviewing someone else.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the evil twin walks in. No, just a different energy.
- 19:31Speaker 1: It was a clone. Okay.
- 19:32Speaker 2: It says her energy was completely different. She was loud, dominating, oversharing.
- 19:37Speaker 2: That one calm, steady presence that we had during the
- 19:39Speaker 2: interview was not there anymore. So I pulled the other
- 19:43Speaker 2: executive aside and I said, is this even the same person?
- 19:45Speaker 2: And they said, technically, yes, but practically no. Over the
- 19:49Speaker 2: next few weeks. the problems continued to add up. Conversations derailed.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Tasks were not completed as instructed. Staff started to quietly
- 20:00Speaker 2: come to leadership with their concerns. The front office went
- 20:03Speaker 2: from being an anchor to a source of constant tension.
- 20:05Speaker 2: So we did what good leaders do. We clarified some expectations,
- 20:09Speaker 2: documented feedback, all that good stuff. But instead of improving,
- 20:12Speaker 2: she got worse. So eventually, after months of careful management,
- 20:17Speaker 2: we decided that we had to let her go. We
- 20:19Speaker 2: handled it deliberately, professionally, knowing that the personality we were
- 20:24Speaker 2: dealing with was on the difficult side. So looking back,
- 20:26Speaker 2: what stuck with me most is this. The person we
- 20:29Speaker 2: met in the interview only existed for about that one hour.
- 20:31Speaker 2: And the person who showed up every day after that
- 20:33Speaker 2: was completely somebody else entirely. And so that's something we
- 20:36Speaker 2: have to plan for in the future going forward. Yeah.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I guess everybody, that's what you call really good interview training.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I guess so.
- 20:44Speaker 4: I was about to say, I was like, I understand
- 20:46Speaker 4: it to an extent, but only like not in this
- 20:51Speaker 4: one where you're completely acting out of character. And like,
- 20:55Speaker 4: like I get like when you go to an interview
- 20:57Speaker 4: and you're nervous and you're trying to act super professional
- 21:02Speaker 4: and everything, and then you get hired. And now you
- 21:04Speaker 4: get into the company and like you let your personality
- 21:06Speaker 4: come out or whatever.
- 21:07Speaker 5: It is a little quick.
- 21:08Speaker 1: On the first day.
- 21:09Speaker 2: I'm going to walk in different.
- 21:12Speaker 4: On the first day, if you're completely like bouncing off
- 21:14Speaker 4: the wall, like that's a.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Little, it's hard because like in any interview, you want
- 21:18Speaker 2: to be the best version of yourself. Try and make
- 21:20Speaker 2: a really good first impression. Uh, so I understand that
- 21:23Speaker 2: aspect of it, but to like do that so much
- 21:26Speaker 2: that that's not even a real person. And then when
- 21:28Speaker 2: you start at somebody completely different, I feel like, You're
- 21:31Speaker 2: making a first impression for months.
- 21:32Speaker 5: To where people are questioning, is this the same person?
- 21:35Speaker 5: That's how you know.
- 21:36Speaker 1: If you're a professional and you're hiring people all the time,
- 21:40Speaker 1: you've got to believe that after years of doing it,
- 21:45Speaker 1: for a big majority of it, they have figured out
- 21:47Speaker 1: how to get past some of that. So to pull
- 21:50Speaker 1: it off, to be completely someone different. That's what the
- 21:54Speaker 1: challenge was because even the person said that. I normally
- 21:57Speaker 1: have a good feel for that. Really, really tough. requires work.
- 22:01Speaker 1: And to get past someone who does this for a living,
- 22:05Speaker 1: we know so many recruiters and folks who have sat
- 22:08Speaker 1: in hundreds if not thousands of interviews and probably can.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Smell that junk from a mile away. Sometimes it still
- 22:20Speaker 2: slips through, I guess. So that's tough. I thought that
- 22:22Speaker 2: was an actual bad hire. Realistic story. Got any?
- 22:27Speaker 5: Me now.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Hold on.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:32Speaker 4: I have two today. They're both submissions. So these were
- 22:35Speaker 4: submitted for our contest. The first one is super short. Um,
- 22:41Speaker 4: I'll just, I'll just get into it. This one we've,
- 22:44Speaker 4: we've read a couple of stories kind of like this one.
- 22:46Speaker 4: I feel like I'm the executive director of a nonprofit
- 22:50Speaker 4: for literacy. We train volunteers to deliver literacy instruction to underserved,
- 22:55Speaker 4: struggling readers. Our students are between 6 and 10 years old,
- 22:59Speaker 4: so like really young children. Okay.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I'm in love already.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I love it.
- 23:02Speaker 4: One volunteer was so smart and so eager to become
- 23:05Speaker 4: a literacy tutor, and I thought she would be the
- 23:07Speaker 4: best tutor. On her first meeting with the family and me,
- 23:11Speaker 4: she came into the library carrying a container of what.
- 23:14Speaker 5: Looked like tea.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 23:17Speaker 4: It was not tea.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Not tea.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Within just a few.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Emma precursors it.
- 23:21Speaker 2: It wasn't tea. Okay.
- 23:23Speaker 5: Within just a few minutes, I realized she was very
- 23:26Speaker 5: badly intoxicated.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 23:27Speaker 5: And that was the end of that.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Oh, that was it?
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yep.
- 23:30Speaker 5: That was it. I told you.
- 23:31Speaker 4: It was super short.
- 23:32Speaker 2: What was it? It wasn't tea?
- 23:33Speaker 5: I didn't say.
- 23:34Speaker 3: She was intoxicated, bro.
- 23:34Speaker 2: It's up to your interpretation. So it was coffee. Oh, bourbon.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Got it. Yeah, it was coffee. I understand.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Tea, bourbon.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Dang. Yeah, that's tough, especially... Young kids like that.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:49Speaker 2: I'm sure you got fired around the spot. Oh, my gosh.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Man. Of course, the first meeting, too. First day.
- 23:54Speaker 2: A lot of firsts around here.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 1: We should.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I mean, you know, it's a bad hire. I guess
- 23:59Speaker 2: a lot of times that behavior is... That first day
- 24:01Speaker 2: fail is... It is amazing how many times we hear stories.
- 24:04Speaker 1: About it happening.
- 24:05Speaker 4: And obviously, I don't know anything about this person or
- 24:08Speaker 4: their personal life. So, I'm... I'm in no place to judge.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:13Speaker 4: But, like, why would you come in on your first
- 24:15Speaker 4: day like that if you excelled in the interview and, like,
- 24:18Speaker 4: you're so eager to be a tutor and then you
- 24:20Speaker 4: come in and just vomit.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Well, clearly you were able to stop long enough to interview.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:26Speaker 5: But, you know, sometimes it's a disease. Like I said,
- 24:28Speaker 5: I don't know them. I'm in no place to judge them.
- 24:31Speaker 1: It's a disease. You know, they need help.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I hate to see it.
- 24:38Speaker 5: I got one more.
- 24:39Speaker 4: This one's A little bit longer.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:42Speaker 5: Kind of long. All right.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Cool.
- 24:44Speaker 4: My startup was raising an early funding round, and one
- 24:48Speaker 4: of our key investors knew we needed a chief technology
- 24:51Speaker 4: officer to quarterback our tech development. He had a friend
- 24:54Speaker 4: with some technical experience that had just sold his company
- 24:57Speaker 4: to a brand. Our investor actually made his investment contingent
- 25:01Speaker 4: upon us hiring his friend as our CTO. at an
- 25:05Speaker 4: annual salary of $ 360, 000.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Oh, nice.
- 25:07Speaker 1: That's some premium dough for a startup, bro.
- 25:13Speaker 4: My co-founder and I were taken aback by the number
- 25:16Speaker 4: as we were a pre-revenue startup and hadn't even taken
- 25:18Speaker 4: salaries ourselves yet. Since the investment was critical to us
- 25:23Speaker 4: and our key investor was vouching for this person, we
- 25:25Speaker 4: agreed to the terms, signed documents, received the wire transfer
- 25:30Speaker 4: from our investor, and hired the CTO. He was living
- 25:33Speaker 4: in New York and we were based in Los Angeles,
- 25:36Speaker 4: so we only met him two or three times and
- 25:38Speaker 4: spent one afternoon going over his technical development plan on
- 25:41Speaker 4: a whiteboard. That was the only deliverable we ever received
- 25:45Speaker 4: from him. As his first month with us was coming up,
- 25:50Speaker 4: we called him for an update on his progress. He
- 25:52Speaker 4: went on for about 30 minutes on how he planned
- 25:54Speaker 4: to build out our tech stack and went over his
- 25:56Speaker 4: ideas for our future set. Just before we were about
- 25:59Speaker 4: to hang up, he said, oh, I forgot to mention something.
- 26:01Speaker 4: We thought it might be something regarding the tech plan.
- 26:04Speaker 4: He continued, I thought I should tell you that I
- 26:07Speaker 4: took a full-time managing director position at Goldman Sachs. He
- 26:11Speaker 4: said it like he was telling us what he had
- 26:12Speaker 4: for lunch.
- 26:13Speaker 5: Like, oh, by the way.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah, no big deal.
- 26:16Speaker 4: My co-founder and I looked at each other thinking we
- 26:18Speaker 4: must have misheard something.
- 26:20Speaker 5: Did you just say you're now working.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Full-time at Goldman Sachs?
- 26:23Speaker 1: Like, wait, how long have you been doing that?
- 26:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been there for a month.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Still not believing what we had just heard. And he replied, yes,
- 26:32Speaker 4: and it will actually be really good. Yes, and it
- 26:35Speaker 4: will actually be really good for you. Like the CTO
- 26:37Speaker 4: said that to them.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Oh, he's spinning it for them.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 5: It will actually be really good for you that I
- 26:41Speaker 5: have this full-time position.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Good connections for them.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Yeah. Now we were incredulous. It will be good for us.
- 26:47Speaker 4: How is it good for us that you'll be spending
- 26:48Speaker 4: 40-plus hours a week at Goldman when we.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Just hired you to build our platform?
- 26:52Speaker 2: For $ 360, 000 a year.
- 26:53Speaker 4: And he said, well, I'll be able to do the
- 26:56Speaker 4: work for you at night. I'll be able to focus
- 26:58Speaker 4: on getting your build done even faster.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Yeah, no big deal.
- 27:00Speaker 5: He said nonchalantly.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Even faster than if I did it during the day.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah. No distractions at night.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Previously, all I was doing was looking.
- 27:08Speaker 2: For a job.
- 27:09Speaker 5: Yeah. And they're like, hmm, we'll have to think about that.
- 27:12Speaker 5: We'll call you tomorrow. Was about all we could say,
- 27:15Speaker 5: still in shock over.
- 27:17Speaker 4: over our $ 360, 000 moonlighting employee.
- 27:21Speaker 5: We hung up that call and immediately called our investor.
- 27:24Speaker 5: His reaction was like as expected. What the heck? That's
- 27:29Speaker 5: way out of line. I'm really sorry, guys. How much
- 27:30Speaker 5: have you paid him?
- 27:31Speaker 4: We told him we just made our first monthly payment
- 27:34Speaker 4: to him of $ 30, 000.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Okay, don't worry.
- 27:37Speaker 4: I'll take care of it. You won't have to deal
- 27:39Speaker 4: with him again, he told us as we hung up
- 27:42Speaker 4: the call. We both looked at each other and did
- 27:44Speaker 4: a double take. Is this what we.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Could expect on the road to building a tech platform?
- 27:48Speaker 4: Yes.
- 27:49Speaker 5: It turns out it was.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Probably.
- 27:51Speaker 5: That $ 30, 000.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Lesson prepped us for dealing with some of the false promises,
- 27:55Speaker 4: deceitful conduct, and self-serving egos involved in the software development
- 27:59Speaker 4: space that we were to experience.
- 28:00Speaker 5: In the near future.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Yeah. Wow.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Not to spoil it. But that was Steve. That was
- 28:05Speaker 2: Steve's story, the guy that I interviewed on Riverside.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Oh, is it really? Oh, really?
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yeah, so he told me that story. So if you
- 28:10Speaker 2: want to hear that full story in depth and all
- 28:12Speaker 2: the kind of stuff that goes around it, I think
- 28:14Speaker 2: we have the full episode on it.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Okay, cool, yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Because he was telling me that story.
- 28:17Speaker 4: I didn't put the people's names on here. I just
- 28:19Speaker 4: have the story as well.
- 28:21Speaker 1: As she was telling the story, I was like, I
- 28:22Speaker 1: swear I've heard this before. It's because I watched that
- 28:25Speaker 1: interview with him.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:26Speaker 1: It was actually a pretty interesting interview.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Super interesting.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And yeah, he tells a story about And it's so
- 28:34Speaker 1: true that can happen for startups and those that are
- 28:39Speaker 1: dependent upon investors because investors end up, especially if they're significant,
- 28:43Speaker 1: more significant, with a lot of power to put people
- 28:46Speaker 1: to work for you to say you've got to use
- 28:48Speaker 1: this or you've got to use that. And a great
- 28:51Speaker 1: example of that not working out.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think he put it really well where
- 28:57Speaker 2: it's like, I guess this is what I can expect
- 29:00Speaker 2: when I'm building a tech company or however he kind
- 29:02Speaker 2: of put it. Because, yeah, that's what we were kind
- 29:04Speaker 2: of saying about this whole show being relatable to people
- 29:06Speaker 2: in hiring. So for anybody who's kind of been hiring
- 29:08Speaker 2: in that space, yeah, building a tech startup or whatever
- 29:12Speaker 2: that might be, yeah there can be a lot of
- 29:15Speaker 2: big swings like that that can be unexpected a lot
- 29:18Speaker 2: of you still build.
- 29:19Speaker 1: You you were out in color were you you were
- 29:21Speaker 1: in silicon valley weren't you i was.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Right near there yeah so i worked for a few
- 29:24Speaker 2: startups that yeah you know it's always kind of like
- 29:26Speaker 2: oh we're gonna make a billion dollars or actually sorry
- 29:28Speaker 2: no we're going on business you know and it's because
- 29:31Speaker 2: of that kind of thing because they have these big
- 29:34Speaker 2: dreams and big promises. Okay, yeah, $ 360, 000 a year or whatever.
- 29:37Speaker 2: And it just goes like that.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I remember you telling me when we were interviewing you,
- 29:41Speaker 1: you were like, yeah, I went to work for this
- 29:43Speaker 1: one company. And I actually thought, okay, this will be good.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It'll be resourceful. And they told me, oh, you've got
- 29:48Speaker 1: this big budget. You've got this budget. And when you
- 29:50Speaker 1: got there like 30 days later, your senior person left.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And they were like, the budget's now zero.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Good luck.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Good luck.
- 29:58Speaker 2: That was kind of normal. Yeah, my chief marketing officer
- 30:03Speaker 2: was fired. on my 21st day. So like my boss.
- 30:06Speaker 2: So then I was the only marketing person at the company,
- 30:08Speaker 2: pretty much.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And you went from budget to no budget?
- 30:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, I think they were spending a
- 30:12Speaker 2: million dollars. I actually love this story. It's one of
- 30:14Speaker 2: the reasons I hired you. You've got to be resourceful,
- 30:15Speaker 2: I guess. Because it made you resourceful.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I was like, if this dude can do it on zero,
- 30:19Speaker 1: I'll take him.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Well, I'll try to make our budget zero.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I love it. Why were you just asking me for
- 30:25Speaker 1: a bunch of money? I don't understand.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I should answer every request for money with, you didn't
- 30:30Speaker 1: have any before and you didn't. 20 million views? What's
- 30:33Speaker 1: the deal?
- 30:33Speaker 2: I guess he's got a point. Yeah, but imagine if
- 30:35Speaker 2: we went from zero to a million per year.
- 30:36Speaker 1: You don't know what we could do.
- 30:38Speaker 2: You've got to stay flexible with all the big changes,
- 30:40Speaker 2: I guess. But anyways, that full interview with Steve is
- 30:44Speaker 2: on our stream.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope people watch it because I think it
- 30:47Speaker 1: is kind of– he's an interesting dude.
- 30:50Speaker 5: In a way, it kind of reminded me of the
- 30:52Speaker 5: guy that changed his salary to a million dollars.
- 30:54Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 30:54Speaker 5: In our last episode.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it kind of pulled him out.
- 30:57Speaker 5: It kind of reminded me of that a little bit.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 5: Still really funny.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's funny.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Well, cool. Well, that was fun. Well, thanks for joining
- 31:06Speaker 1: us today. We appreciate it. Yeah, lots of submission. Thanks
- 31:08Speaker 1: for listening to the Bad Hire.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:11Speaker 1: You know, we're like all new to this. And I
- 31:15Speaker 1: think it's getting more and more relaxed. I was telling
- 31:18Speaker 1: you between shows, it just feels more relaxed getting the more,
- 31:21Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, just more comfortable. You just
- 31:25Speaker 1: learn how to do it and, you know. Eventually, you
- 31:27Speaker 1: just get enough reps where you can do it without
- 31:28Speaker 1: trying to be so structured. I think maybe that's one
- 31:30Speaker 1: of the fun things to do is just kind of
- 31:32Speaker 1: like hanging around like we are when the cameras are off.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got this nice new podcast studio we're hanging
- 31:37Speaker 2: out in.
- 31:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:38Speaker 2: So it's been coming along.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yeah, we did. We put one in here. We put
- 31:42Speaker 1: another studio in another room.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Yeah, we've been moving all around the office.
- 31:45Speaker 1: We've been shooting in my office for the last couple
- 31:47Speaker 1: of months. Yeah. You know, so... shot today in this
- 31:50Speaker 1: bonus room or this other, what's that? The what? Yeah,
- 31:54Speaker 1: the conference room.
- 31:55Speaker 2: What do we call it?
- 31:55Speaker 1: Kitty Hawk? Yeah, the Kitty Hawk room.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Yeah, so a lot of content going on.
- 32:00Speaker 2: We've come a long way from that table when we
- 32:02Speaker 2: first started those first couple episodes.
- 32:04Speaker 5: Oh my goodness.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Where we rented the space.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's like, hey, you just gotta start.
- 32:10Speaker 1: You just gotta go. That's what I would tell everyone
- 32:14Speaker 1: who wants to get into having some fun and doing
- 32:17Speaker 1: some stuff online and Whether it's podcasting or short form
- 32:21Speaker 1: or long form or whatever, it's just start. That was
- 32:24Speaker 1: like our mentality was like, it ain't perfect. We don't
- 32:27Speaker 1: have everything we need.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Let's get a t-shirt and go. As long as you're
- 32:33Speaker 2: getting a little bit better each time, hopefully, it'll come along. Right.
- 32:37Speaker 1: So I don't know. So please subscribe, rate, review, and share.
- 32:42Speaker 1: We love telling stories online. from recruiters, from HR professionals.
- 32:46Speaker 1: We just, uh, about that bad hire. Um, when we
- 32:51Speaker 1: want to celebrate all the great hires that you have, um,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and all that you do for, um, that's super positive
- 32:58Speaker 1: and the, how successful you are, but the bad hires
- 33:02Speaker 1: do come and it's celebrating them, uh, and being able
- 33:05Speaker 1: to smile about it, tell a story. Um, but that's
- 33:09Speaker 1: what we're all about and just kind of bonding around,
- 33:11Speaker 1: bonding together around that. Now, We're sponsored by bchecks.io, which
- 33:17Speaker 1: is our background screening company, and we love it. They're
- 33:23Speaker 1: about preventing the bad hire. So if you're looking for
- 33:26Speaker 1: a background screening company and you want to do that,
- 33:29Speaker 1: we encourage you to look into it. They're very good,
- 33:32Speaker 1: very fast, super accurate, great reputation. Check them out.
- 33:38Speaker 2: You know all about it.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Yeah, bchecks.io. Submit your story. I hope you do. We
- 33:44Speaker 1: love reading it. We've enjoyed. My favorite ones, I think,
- 33:47Speaker 1: are getting to be as they kind of take over
- 33:49Speaker 1: as all the submitted stories as you get a little
- 33:51Speaker 1: glimpse into more. So submit it. You can go to thebadhire.com
- 33:55Speaker 1: and do it. You get featured right here on the show.
- 33:58Speaker 1: End up like the segment we had earlier. I think
- 34:01Speaker 1: that's kind of fun. But we appreciate everybody joining us.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Thanks for listening. Thanks, everybody. Bye.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Bye.
