- 0:03Speaker 1: Real quick, do me a favor. Make sure you're subscribed
- 0:05Speaker 1: to the channel. I want to continue to grow. 50%
- 0:07Speaker 1: of you watch on a regular basis but aren't subscribed.
- 0:10Speaker 2: So hit subscribe right this minute.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Now, I want to talk to you about something that
- 0:14Speaker 1: is a little harder to measure than rushing yards, penalties,
- 0:18Speaker 1: or third down defense.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Leadership.
- 0:21Speaker 1: This video is brought to you by PrizePix. And I
- 0:24Speaker 1: think this is such an important topic. When Florida was 4-0,
- 0:28Speaker 1: beating Ole Miss and climbing into the top 10, nobody
- 0:30Speaker 1: was asking whether this team has leaders. Everybody looks like
- 0:33Speaker 1: a leader when things go well.
- 0:36Speaker 2: That's easy. What I want to know is now.
- 0:38Speaker 1: That this team has lost, who does the team turn
- 0:42Speaker 1: to when things go badly? Missouri was the first time
- 0:47Speaker 1: this season Florida really looked shaken. And what stood out
- 0:50Speaker 1: to me wasn't just that Florida lost. It was that
- 0:53Speaker 1: once the game started slipping away, I didn't really see
- 0:55Speaker 1: anybody change the temperature of the team. I didn't see
- 0:59Speaker 1: somebody grab control of the moment. I didn't see that
- 1:02Speaker 1: one guy who's like, okay, enough. We are not going
- 1:04Speaker 1: to let this turn into what it's turning into. And
- 1:07Speaker 1: that does make me wonder, does Florida have.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Enough player leadership right now? Not talent. They've got that.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Not coaching. I think they got that too. Leadership.
- 1:17Speaker 1: That's what I want to talk about today. This is
- 1:19Speaker 1: the week leadership actually matters. Coach Summerall has talked over
- 1:22Speaker 1: and over and over again about wanting a player-led team.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And he's right.
- 1:26Speaker 1: The best teams in the country usually are. Coaches can
- 1:29Speaker 1: set the standard. They can instill the culture. They can
- 1:31Speaker 1: demand accountability. But eventually, players have to own it. And
- 1:35Speaker 1: this is the week where that starts to matter. It's
- 1:37Speaker 1: very easy to be a leader when you're winning. Everybody
- 1:40Speaker 1: is excited. Everybody is bought in. Everybody is celebrating together.
- 1:44Speaker 1: But what happens after you get embarrassed? What happens after
- 1:47Speaker 1: a week where the film's ugly? What happens after people
- 1:50Speaker 1: are criticizing you? What happens when your teammates are frustrated?
- 1:54Speaker 1: That's when leaders separate themselves. Let's start on offense. That
- 1:59Speaker 1: group looked frustrated at Missouri. The line struggled. The run
- 2:02Speaker 1: game really never got going in the way that Florida
- 2:04Speaker 1: needed it to. Aaron Filo was under pressure. The offense
- 2:07Speaker 1: got behind schedule. And once that happened, everything started to
- 2:10Speaker 1: feel harder. So who becomes the calming presence? Who looks
- 2:14Speaker 1: at that offensive line and says, We're better than this.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Who's making sure guys don't start pressing? Who gets everybody
- 2:21Speaker 1: lined up and focused after a bad series? You need
- 2:24Speaker 1: somebody who can stabilize the offense when the momentum is
- 2:27Speaker 1: going the wrong direction. And sometimes it doesn't have to
- 2:29Speaker 1: be the quarterback. It can be a veteran lineman. It
- 2:31Speaker 1: can be a running back. It can be a receiver.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But somebody has to own that role. When things got
- 2:36Speaker 1: bad against Missouri, Florida's offense looked like a unit waiting
- 2:39Speaker 1: for something good to happen instead of creating something good.
- 2:42Speaker 2: That's where leadership has to show up.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And it does make me wonder if VB3 being on
- 2:46Speaker 1: the sidelines, not only because of his talent, but because
- 2:48Speaker 1: of his leadership, played a role here. So what about
- 2:53Speaker 1: the defense? I think same question. Missouri started running the football.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Then they kept running it. Then they broke explosive plays.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And Florida never really seemed to regain control. And that's
- 3:04Speaker 1: where I'm looking for somebody on defense to step forward.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Somebody has to be the guy who gets everybody together
- 3:09Speaker 1: and says, all right, this stops now. When a defense
- 3:13Speaker 1: starts getting pushed around, it becomes emotional. You start trying
- 3:16Speaker 1: to make every play. Guys get out of their gaps.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Tackling gets worse. Everybody wants to be the hero. That's
- 3:22Speaker 1: when veteran leadership matters. Somebody has to get everybody back
- 3:26Speaker 1: on the same page. Do your job. Fit your gap.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Make the tackle. Make the next snap. Florida didn't look
- 3:33Speaker 1: like it had enough of that in the second half
- 3:35Speaker 1: against Missouri. We're gonna take a quick break from this
- 3:38Speaker 1: video to give some love to PrizePix. Guys, I'm gonna
- 3:41Speaker 1: show you how easy it is to set a lineup.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Don't forget to download their app, and if you are
- 3:46Speaker 1: a new user, you can play a $ 5 lineup and
- 3:48Speaker 1: use our code, it's on the screen below, HMA, and
- 3:51Speaker 1: if you win, you get $ 150 in lineups instantly. Okay,
- 3:55Speaker 1: so we've got Jaden Baugh at 121.5 rushing yards. I
- 3:59Speaker 1: am gonna say I think he has a rebound week.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the more on this, And then I'm
- 4:05Speaker 1: also going to take the more on Lenora Sellers of 0.5
- 4:09Speaker 1: passing touchdowns. I think that does hit this weekend as well.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So all you have to do is pair a couple
- 4:14Speaker 1: of things like that.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You've got a lineup.
- 4:16Speaker 1: We'll submit it. It's easy as that. We appreciate prize
- 4:20Speaker 1: picks for all their support. Leadership shows up in the
- 4:24Speaker 1: little things. And I think that's where people sometimes misunderstand leadership.
- 4:28Speaker 1: It's not always some dramatic halftime speech. It's usually a
- 4:32Speaker 1: lot smaller than that. It's the guy who pulls a
- 4:34Speaker 1: teammate aside after a penalty. It's the guy who stops
- 4:37Speaker 1: people from arguing with officials. It's the guy who gets
- 4:39Speaker 1: the sideline locked back in. It's the guy who refuses
- 4:42Speaker 1: to let practice get sloppy on Tuesday.
- 4:45Speaker 2: It's the guy who tells everybody Missouri is over.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Those are the players that change football teams, and that's
- 4:52Speaker 1: what I want to look for this week. I want
- 4:53Speaker 1: to know who becomes the guy for Florida that can
- 4:56Speaker 1: change the temperature. If you want to be a championship-level program,
- 5:00Speaker 1: coaches can't be the only people holding everybody accountable. Players
- 5:04Speaker 1: have to do it too. So did Florida fail a
- 5:08Speaker 1: maturity test? I really do think that's a fair question.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Florida spent a full week getting praised after beating Ole Miss.
- 5:14Speaker 1: They jumped into the top 10. Everybody started talking about
- 5:17Speaker 1: how fast John Summerall has changed the program. There was
- 5:20Speaker 1: real national buzz around Florida. Then they went on the
- 5:23Speaker 1: road and got humble. So yeah, I think it's fair
- 5:26Speaker 1: to ask whether they handled success the right way. Did
- 5:28Speaker 1: they get a little too comfortable? Did they lose some edge?
- 5:31Speaker 1: Did they believe their own hype? We can't know that
- 5:35Speaker 1: from the outside. And that is not something I'm even
- 5:37Speaker 1: going to attempt to diagnose. But we can judge the performance.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And Florida didn't look like the same focused physical team
- 5:47Speaker 1: we had seen the week before. And that's where leadership
- 5:50Speaker 1: comes into play. Leaders are the people who keep success
- 5:53Speaker 1: from making a team soft. This can't be a coach-only fix.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And I think that's the biggest thing about all of this.
- 6:01Speaker 1: John Summerall can challenge them, and I am sure he will.
- 6:04Speaker 1: The staff can change practice, and I'm sure they will.
- 6:07Speaker 1: They can make corrections. They can simplify things. They can
- 6:10Speaker 1: preach discipline all week long. But if the players are
- 6:13Speaker 1: still waiting for the coaches to fix everything, then Florida
- 6:17Speaker 1: has a ceiling. At some point, the locker room has
- 6:20Speaker 1: to take ownership. That is the difference between being a
- 6:22Speaker 1: good team and a really great team. And that is
- 6:25Speaker 1: why this week is really important. Who is the player
- 6:28Speaker 1: who says, yeah, we're not doing that again? Who becomes
- 6:31Speaker 1: the voice in the room? Who becomes the guy everybody
- 6:33Speaker 1: looks to after something goes wrong? Those guys matter just
- 6:37Speaker 1: as much as any coordinator or any scheme. And yeah,
- 6:41Speaker 1: I think Aaron Filo is a part of this conversation.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Not because I think he necessarily needs to be some loud,
- 6:47Speaker 1: fiery personality overnight. Leadership doesn't have to look like yelling.
- 6:51Speaker 1: For a quarterback, leadership can be calm. It can be
- 6:54Speaker 1: body language. It can be taking personal responsibility. It can
- 6:57Speaker 1: be getting back in the huddle after a bad series
- 6:59Speaker 1: and making everybody believe the next drive is going to
- 7:02Speaker 1: look different. That's what I want to see from Philo.
- 7:05Speaker 1: He is still young. He is still growing. But quarterbacks
- 7:08Speaker 1: naturally become leaders whether they ask for that role or not.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So this week is another step in that process. So
- 7:17Speaker 1: that's what I'm watching against South Carolina.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Body language.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm watching the sidelines. I want to see how Florida
- 7:22Speaker 1: responds to its first mistake. There's going to be one.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Maybe it's a penalty or a sack. Maybe South Carolina
- 7:27Speaker 1: scores first. Whatever it is, how does Florida respond?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Do they tighten up? Do they press? Do they start
- 7:33Speaker 2: pointing fingers?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Or does somebody step up and reset the team? That's
- 7:37Speaker 1: what I'm looking for. I think that's going to tell
- 7:38Speaker 1: us a lot more than any stat sheet will. Everybody
- 7:42Speaker 1: wants to know whether Missouri exposed Florida.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Well, this is when we learn who Florida really is.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I think this week is going to expose something. It's
- 7:51Speaker 2: going to be the leaders, though. Who are they?
- 7:53Speaker 1: Who are the actual leaders? Adversity has a funny way
- 7:56Speaker 1: of doing that. When everything's going great, everybody has a voice.
- 7:59Speaker 1: When things go bad, you find out whose voice actually matters.
- 8:02Speaker 1: And Florida needs those guys more than ever. So do
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think Florida has a leadership problem? I don't know yet.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I think Missouri gave us a reason to ask the question.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And I think this week will give us some answers.
- 8:14Speaker 1: If Florida comes out against South Carolina looking really focused
- 8:17Speaker 1: and physical and emotionally under control... then maybe Missouri was
- 8:22Speaker 1: exactly the kind of experience this team needed. Maybe it
- 8:25Speaker 1: forced some players to grow up. Maybe it forced some
- 8:28Speaker 1: guys to step into bigger roles. Maybe it clarified who
- 8:31Speaker 1: this team is going forward and who this team is
- 8:35Speaker 1: going to follow when things get hard.
- 8:38Speaker 2: But if Florida looks flat again.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And if penalties continue, if they unravel after adversity, then
- 8:44Speaker 1: this conversation becomes a lot more serious. John Summerall has
- 8:48Speaker 1: said that best teams fail. our player-led teams. This is
- 8:53Speaker 1: the week we find out whether Florida is ready to
- 8:56Speaker 1: become a player-led team.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I'm Allie Wilber.
- 9:00Speaker 1: This is a peek inside Florida Gator football. We appreciate
- 9:03Speaker 1: you guys for tuning in. We appreciate PrizePix for all
- 9:06Speaker 1: their support.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Keep watching.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I've got a lot more content coming for you this week.
- 9:10Speaker 2: As always, go Gators!
