Transcript
- 0:00You got you. Hi, this is Michael Hurley from Ghost Galaxy and you're
- 0:18listening to Arcon's corner reacting to reaction. Yep, yeah, but what's going
- 0:23on everybody? I am the one, the only, the w oh Okay.
- 0:27I e a little nasally today because I caught all of your germs.
- 0:32I love you, ah, but we have worlds to go over, so
- 0:36the show must go on to help me with that. Today we got the
- 0:39ewokwok and third place for Arkan. Hello, keyboarde family. Oh man,
- 0:46it is so good to be back. It was so good to meet so
- 0:49many of you. I am absolutely blessed and uh god was good guys.
- 0:55I took home third place. I don't know where that came from, but
- 0:58practice paid off deck and I had I had the run, so it was.
- 1:03It was a great, great time and it was amazing meeting so many
- 1:07of you. Go ahead with your intros and then we'll get into won't you
- 1:10be my neighbor? I also have the runs, but not in the same
- 1:12way. Anyways, we have the olt from the south Southerly elf oy hoy,
- 1:19I hear Wales went well, we'll get into that. We missed you
- 1:23Southerly we did. Yeah, man, yeah, I wish I could have
- 1:26made it. Next year. Next year, next year we have the saltiest
- 1:30doctor on Earth, Doctor sheep Man and Draz The Smoke Show was gone.
- 1:38Guys. With that said, times to get into today, but first we
- 1:42have to get into Ewok's darn segment. Won't you be my neighbor? Ewok?
- 1:48All right, so we showed up and this was Thursday night. We
- 1:52went ahead and stop by Games Enter. Not a lot happening there, so
- 1:56we went over to the hotel in Double Tree and me and key Forge was
- 2:00definitely happening there. A lot of people were sitting around and this was my
- 2:05first introduction. Thank you June and fabulous sting. People are playing key Mander
- 2:09boys and girls. So key Mander, if you're not familiar with it,
- 2:13is Commander's version from Magic but with key Forge, and it looked amazing.
- 2:19So June Fabulous is awesome job. They're getting some feedback right away, multiple
- 2:24different we'll call it those key Manders that were in charge. So a lot
- 2:30of play and replayability is what I saw. I did not get a chance
- 2:35to play. I was a little busy over the weekend, but I'm super
- 2:38excited to be able to play at my local and give some feedback. So
- 2:42I give them won't you be my neighbor? Because that was awesome news.
- 2:46I mean the amount of time and effort put into this just to be able
- 2:49to bring something cool to our key Forge scene. I love it. Fans
- 2:54players, you guys got it going on again. It was cool to see,
- 2:59Like I don't know that I'm jumping out of my chair to try it
- 3:02myself, but but I could, like, I could tell people are having
- 3:07a good time and enjoying doing it. So cool cool indeed, Yeah,
- 3:15I'm excited to give it a try. I know. I'm pretty sure Sidney
- 3:17has the rules with her, so at our locals we will get to give
- 3:22it a try one of these weeks. I know they put a lot of
- 3:25effort into it, so I definitely want to give it a look. So
- 3:30we'll give that a look. Maybe we'll do a little video on it.
- 3:34We have the technology of some sort. We'll figure it out. Sheep right,
- 3:39right, perfect. We had a yu. So we had our titular
- 3:43segment why I suck at key Forge, but does he's not here? Sucks
- 3:46so bad? He's stuck in a strange cell. That's right. I mean,
- 3:50we could probably each share something about why we suck as we go through
- 3:54the days of the events because none of us, none of us won out.
- 3:59So there's there's something right up. Draw better. Mine is not enough
- 4:05sleep for the forge I had to play. Definitely an issue for me.
- 4:13We can get into that. But I definitely can go to Budapest and back.
- 4:17So this is true. This is true. I flew in from Budapest
- 4:23to arrive at the keyboard celebration. It was not a short flight. And
- 4:32let's see what we got up real quick. For you guys with pledge managers,
- 4:36are pledging for the game found pledge manager is open. Get in your
- 4:41personalized deck names and I believe house choices if I'm not mistaken, yeah,
- 4:46and your other choices. Do you want your houses on your map? Yes?
- 4:51And remember at this point they've got your money, so if you want
- 4:56to remove a pledge, you just have to spend it on something else.
- 4:59So too late, they've taken it. Well you should, I mean,
- 5:04the the what's you McCall it decks are pretty cool. Well, there's those
- 5:12two, so so we should talk about both, right, we should talk
- 5:14about the what's the we'll get into that. We have plenty of the fans.
- 5:19Yeah, yeah, the gosh not the Revenant spooks. I forgot what
- 5:25they're calling borders. What do they call those? Spooky? Are you talking
- 5:28to Nasure Awakening? Awakening? You're talking Awakening decks? What are you talking
- 5:34about? What he's talking awake? What he's talking? I think I'm talking
- 5:38about Awakening decks. I'm scrolling. I'm getting to the wet badge. So
- 5:41Awakening are your Yeah, they're your special addition decks similar to I SA a
- 5:45key for just my understanding, yep, yep. And they're really cool looking.
- 5:48And I added a bunch of extras to my pledge to be able to
- 5:54have some some fun looking decks, hoping to get at least one that's,
- 5:57you know, decently good. And uh, I'm excited about those. But
- 6:04let's get into the noise. Day one after Thursday, we arrived all to
- 6:12get in line they get signed up for the LCQ. It was a very
- 6:15long line. What was the total number of people one seventy eight, one
- 6:19thirty seven played that day? What was the total that showed up? Though?
- 6:24Is not everybody right? Around one hundred and seventy for the weekend.
- 6:28Okay, one seventy for the weekend. I don't think we got an count
- 6:32from them. How can we not be excited about that? Boys and girls
- 6:36an the amount of international people that are lower there. First, it was
- 6:41lower than last year and we had the internationals pace, So that that's your
- 6:45that's your twist is that? I mean the amount of people that I saw
- 6:50there, the excitement for key Forge, like we had actually good weather when
- 6:55we're there and we're waiting to get in. I don't know, it was
- 6:58amazing. Being able to see people from around the world here playing our game
- 7:01instead of seeing people was amazing. Okay, don't get me wrong. The
- 7:04people. The people were great, but I mean, I feel like fewer
- 7:10people now it felt pretty full in the rooms. Yeah say it. It
- 7:15felt smaller though it did feel like fewer people did it it did? I
- 7:19could feel it, I don't think so. Okay, Well, I mean
- 7:24I will say that there were some notable individuals from our American side, the
- 7:29state side, content creators and people that I had seen it celebration or had
- 7:33come out in previous trips that did not make it and things happened. That's
- 7:39part of life. So you're dearly missed, and hopefully you we'll get you
- 7:44know you to be able to come out for the next event. But I
- 7:46love seeing the people who came internationally here. I enjoyed everyone like there was
- 7:51so many just great conversations about key Forge and being able to play key Forge
- 7:56and all formats, from very casual with the menagerie until some very top level
- 8:01competitive I understand that our numbers may be slightly less, but the end result
- 8:07is we have to do something on our side to be able to grow those
- 8:11numbers. I think these numbers were phenomenal, and if I'm correct, they'd
- 8:13be higher than any Vault Tour or any event, single event that we put
- 8:18on this year. And we, meaning the GG in the whole community,
- 8:22say we put on no Vault tours this year did but this this is for
- 8:26gig. But I'm saying this was the biggest event of twenty twenty three,
- 8:31is it not? Okay? So that that is a huge celebration right there,
- 8:35and it was. I don't know. I thought that it was run
- 8:37smoothly and I enjoyed it. Wait, there's something, there's there's some things
- 8:45to be able to be worked on. There's no question about that, and
- 8:46you're going to hear it. I know that some people were salty, but
- 8:50I think overall, if you look at the whole event and the amount of
- 8:54individuals there, there was a lot of great KeyForge and a lot of great
- 8:58memories that were formed. But I would say I would definitely say it lived
- 9:03up to the extra Crispy Moniker. It was. It was tasty. It
- 9:11was except they ran out of food at one point, but then they got
- 9:16and Josh did chime into our AC Live show saying it was the largest event.
- 9:20So I think ninety nine was previously the largest, and that was Philly.
- 9:24No, it was the largest event was Italy. Well, I'm saying
- 9:28State Side, which was Philly's largest. That wasn't Philly in like one I
- 9:37thought it was. That was just like and then there was like two and
- 9:43a half people playing Alliance, right, so two and a half one guy
- 9:48was trying to play both sides. As I mean, we could go back
- 9:52to the articles that read them, but wah, I want to say it
- 9:56was like not known for their facts. Yeah, I think it was nineteen
- 10:01something like that. One thirty seven participated in the in the qualifiers. So
- 10:05speaking of qualifier. We all lined up to get our decks. Sheep sheep
- 10:09hearted everybody to get decks. You walk ewalk and I helped kind of just
- 10:15make sure people had a good idea to try to speed up the lines.
- 10:18But wow, like there were three there was one quick line, like registration
- 10:24went really quick, and then you if you didn't bring your own decks,
- 10:28you stood in line forever because they only ran one register to sell everybody three
- 10:33decks, and then they had one to two lines going because they actually did
- 10:37scan the decks to try to control any questionable shenanigans. Was sealed, But
- 10:45I mean, how did all of our all our purchases of resealing glued sales
- 10:52are? Yeah, they were good task work. Nobody caught any of our
- 10:56resealed decks, so it was fantastic. Patted me down when I registered,
- 11:01They were like, all right, where is it? They actually just reach
- 11:05over and glue the judge's eyes shut and then they can't tell that's right?
- 11:11All right? So I do need to interject, Wookie, you are are
- 11:15right. The three day events saw one hundred and thirty players descend upon the
- 11:18city of Philadelphia, so you had one hundred and eighteen participating in ark On
- 11:22an Alliance. Ninety nine was your Arkon and then you had nineteen an Alliance,
- 11:26so you were right with the ninety nine. But we did actually see
- 11:28one hundred and thirty, well one hundred and thirty. My bad, I
- 11:31missed thirty people. Sorry to the thirty people I missed, I will say
- 11:37on the tour yet, sheep, you and I did help. I mean,
- 11:39we've been there before and we offered our services, and why not,
- 11:41That's what we do for a community. I think you did a great job.
- 11:45I won't off our sweet new shirts. Oh those were those were some
- 11:50pre sweet shirts. If you haven't seen what did we get for ac guys?
- 11:54What was it that we were showing off? I mean this is podcast
- 11:58vaguely house themed jerseys. Yes, so hopefully see us next year and see
- 12:03if you can spot which house we each represent. Or check out our face
- 12:09pages and interweb things. Can you check out our dinner. You can check
- 12:13out our TikTok. You can check out our Facebook. A lot of them
- 12:16are getting posted as I make either videos or just even on Instagram. I
- 12:22posted a lot of the pictures I took. I was, uh, you
- 12:28know, I think I'm pretty sure I was house Carolina Panthers. I think
- 12:31that's what my house was. There's no purple in the Carolina Panthers logo.
- 12:35Wow, all right. I would say that what we do want to see
- 12:41for streamlining, because I know GG is in kind of a moment of reflecting
- 12:45and being able to modify for next year, that as you come in,
- 12:48i'd recommend pick up my day in six to eight weeks, Hey six eight
- 12:52weeks, but regardless, being able to pick up decks and just have a
- 12:56quick sign if you need decks over here and kind of scoop people to the
- 13:01left as your entry if you have your decks to the right. And I
- 13:03would have honestly put a table for check in instead of in the center by
- 13:07the door, I would put it in the back right, let people check
- 13:11in, and as they continue, keep that line just cycling right through.
- 13:15You steal all the Sydney's. Now she took notes on all this stuff.
- 13:18Hey, I'll fix them. Yeah, we've done enough work. I think
- 13:22that's a streamline. And then after once once that line died down, which
- 13:28it wasn't too bad, but once it died down, then I would move
- 13:31the table back for checking. It's just that the biggest thing was you guys
- 13:35at World's were the biggest hold up. You guys participating in the world was
- 13:39the largest hold up because of the deck checks. They were done. We
- 13:45were done, and we all had our decks. Maybe maybe I've got my
- 13:48days confused. You have your days confused, because the first day was our
- 13:52LCQ cold medications, a thing that exists that I've been taking a lot of
- 13:58and and this this is why I did well with the event, so you
- 14:03know, remembering things. Yeah, So the first day, which other interesting
- 14:07things is they had to break their one twenty eight cap because that event was
- 14:13capped at one twenty eight, but they had more than one hundred and twenty
- 14:16eight players show up, so they had to decide what to do, and
- 14:20they decided to break the cap and let everybody end, which was probably the
- 14:24right decision, although really the right decision would have been to separate the qualified
- 14:31World players from the unqualified World players, because it would have made two shorter
- 14:35events and I wouldn't have had to concede my games and I would have actually
- 14:41played key Forge, which would have been nice. Wait you tell me about
- 14:46that. So you conceded games well, I I went with the guys who
- 14:54are like, there's a lot of hate that they're letting Worlds players get in,
- 14:58and I actually don't go to these events just to crush dreams. So
- 15:03Canada, Yeah, well I definitely go to Canada to crush dreams, so
- 15:09like, but I had nothing else to do. You could have played Menagerie.
- 15:16No, not then, because everybody's playing in the stupid seld. So
- 15:20with this very exciting sield as it was, right, I'm super disappointed that
- 15:26I could not land early to get there. Yeah, so I played my
- 15:31first game and I conceded then one, and then I played or no maybe
- 15:39I don't know. And then I played my second game, but I conceded
- 15:43then finished it out because they were both people who were trying to qualify,
- 15:48So I just sat down and conceded before we even started the game. And
- 15:54then sure I did with myself to win against anybody who wasn't already qualified,
- 16:10which was the two people I played. So that was that. So I
- 16:15like, hmm, I don't know, like I so I would have just
- 16:21played right like we're we're in an event, like were to have a qualified
- 16:27Sure, But but if I, like I don't know about the like play
- 16:33the game is how I feel right like we we come here to play the
- 16:37game. Hey, tournaments letting folks in and like, okay are they aren't
- 16:44they qualified? Just like just you know, just win your games. Play
- 16:48a way. It was a little awkward playing against people who had not qualified
- 16:56when you had, because you feel that you're just ruining their dreams. You
- 16:59are playing for literally nothing, So so what it What it was was more
- 17:04of a king maker that we had seen a standard traditional board game, like
- 17:07I have nothing to be gained from it outside of pride of where you finish,
- 17:11and it doesn't really matter because the big event was on Saturday and you
- 17:15wanted to play for worlds. So I get what she's saying. I think
- 17:19that it could be easily separated and it will change a little bit. Sorry,
- 17:22we were playing for tickets for the prize wall. Yes, yes,
- 17:29yes, I also gave away all of my tickets for the prize wall.
- 17:33I did as well. You guys are just so generous. Look at you.
- 17:40I mean that there for me. Oh you want those DT decks?
- 17:45Yeah, sweet sweet DT decks? I did, I did. I did
- 17:52get a pair of sleeves. I also did give some tickets away, and
- 17:56Hiram Glass also helped me out with getting some tickets to so, I mean,
- 18:00I get it. It was but it was fun. It was something
- 18:02that they listened again to us as the community, and then they responded was
- 18:06ill, I'll give them the tri for doing the prize wall. However,
- 18:12for some of us who have had had access to these, you know,
- 18:18just took them a pickle. Yeah, exer, you're not getting on stage.
- 18:22I don't know what you're thinking. It's not happening, but so we
- 18:30get it a day one. The prize wall was definitely an improvement. A
- 18:36little disappointing that it was all of the stuff that's already been given away.
- 18:41I would have liked to see the pins for the event there. At least
- 18:45that would have been something I didn't already own. You could buy those for
- 18:48twelve dollars up front. They weren't twelve. What did I really pay twelve
- 18:52dollars for a pin? You sure did? Oh gosh awesome. As I
- 18:57had to ask for my receipt and I was like, these there, how
- 19:00much it's a pin? But sheep, I believe you went one and two?
- 19:08No, I was ow and too to win a game. I went,
- 19:12I went two and two. Seems that poo pus pooh still equals pooh.
- 19:19So my decks were sixty five sixty five fifty five. I don't know
- 19:22if you even checked your seat you mean? It turns out Alliance doesn't make
- 19:26bad decks better. It gave me agency, damn it. Uh huh.
- 19:32I felt the worst because I felt like an agency. I felt the agency
- 19:37really through me. So I was given the option of ship or ship over
- 19:45there, over there in that far left corner. There was ship over there
- 19:48in the far left corner. No problems from the three decks I opened.
- 19:57I actually had a deck that would have probably competed if it was single deck.
- 20:03But once you set Alliance, none of my decks were gonna be anywhere
- 20:07near competing. I could have gone, who this guy in? Oh my
- 20:14god? No, no, no, no, where do I move him
- 20:18to? There? We thank you? Learn to speak so much faster.
- 20:22Yeah, it needs to be quicker on the button. I think it was
- 20:26just second. So just you're gonna you're gonna have to take X ray or
- 20:30Ewok's tools away today. He's gonna be he's gonna be a pain. But
- 20:33e wok. You did quite well and the l SEC died do that you
- 20:37did a thing I did. I did actually start with a buye, so
- 20:40that was a little bit sad, but also giving by the players who also
- 20:44qualified. Thanks. Honestly, there was first round byes. There was one
- 20:52because there was we had an odd number, yeah, and that was me,
- 20:53And honestly, I would much rather I would much rather have been myself
- 20:59than an anyone else and to sit out for that first round. But second
- 21:02round I got a chance to play Felipe or Cookoo from Chile. Awesome,
- 21:07awesome gentlemen, really nice and fun to play. I met him and then
- 21:11his significant other who is with him, Miggie always always fun was our round
- 21:17three and I actually lost that game, and then met Apps and then we
- 21:22saw m Fleva from Michigan and I finished up with quick draw. So I
- 21:26actually finished nineteenth overall kind of with that four and two record, and I
- 21:30had fun being able to play. Let's put it this way, Let's go
- 21:34through the l SEC results. Champion Harmed already qualified, runner up Peen seventy
- 21:41three qualified for Alliance Top four. Cody Kratz qualified for Alliance Top four.
- 21:48Dorian already qualified. Top eight Local car a top eight quick draw qualified for
- 21:56Arkhan, top eight Gene already qualified, Top eight can be already qualified.
- 22:04Four of the top eight were already qualified. So I know that we actually
- 22:11had a good discussion was this Sunday morning or was this Sunday on the way
- 22:15home? But because there was a lot of time that was kind of spent
- 22:19for determining who is the top qualifier and all the way down and boys,
- 22:26I don't know who's meant nothing. Well, but but that was I think.
- 22:30But I think that was the thought process that went through our whole group,
- 22:36is that you could actually have used strength of schedule and you could have
- 22:38just had a cut no no, but but but but listen, if we
- 22:45knew that there was a do but if there was going to be if there
- 22:48was going to be let's say, fifteen people, it was nine and seven,
- 22:52so sixteen three rounds at the end, right, Yeah, And I
- 22:56think that's where you can help out your staff, and both the judges and
- 23:00the actual GG members were there and just caught here's your top here's your top
- 23:04twenty, and you go in order. I think I think it ended up
- 23:08having very little f R. Here's what we do. We don't let already
- 23:12qualifiers play already qualified players play in a last chance qualifier or change the name.
- 23:19That doesn't change the fact that ultimately order on top eight was nearly meaningless.
- 23:27Now there is also the minor thing that they didn't know exactly how many
- 23:32spots they had until seven pm. I don't know when core rounds actually finished.
- 23:41Yeah, well it was later than seven pm, because I think we
- 23:44were in round That's when the because I was by z when he had to
- 23:49go choose, because the big thing about this is you had people waiting around
- 23:56to see how far they could get to see if they can switch. Was
- 24:00also one of those people that waiting for that. That's what he was already
- 24:07qualified for both. That's when I asked him, why are you waiting?
- 24:11Like? What do you you're qualifying for both? Like? But he was
- 24:14said, still waiting to decide. I think he thought there was going to
- 24:17be a first round by if he took it off. I don't think so.
- 24:22Maybe I will tell you that I I lost round six, and that
- 24:26was roughly around five to six o'clock at night. That was still before the
- 24:32seven o'clock cut off. We did. I did take a local car out.
- 24:34We went to an amazing tie place. Man, if you are over
- 24:37in Minnesota again in Roseville, I would highly recommend that type place. Absolutely
- 24:41delicious and that was a highlight. But we had to run him back because
- 24:45loco car did make the top eight cuts and so you were trying to get
- 24:48him back. But I want to say that was he one L O life.
- 24:53He was on defeated until top cut and then one L O and out.
- 25:00So the awesome to L system. Yeah, So in case people don't
- 25:07know at home, basically it's a two L system until top cut is determined,
- 25:11whether that is top four or top eight, depending on what their most
- 25:15likely going to strike. For vaults. We had seen top eight, but
- 25:18then from that point it's just a best of one. So it is possible
- 25:23to have the local car syndrome where you basically, hey, you go and
- 25:27you win all of your games, and that would have been I've lived this
- 25:32year, yeah six and oh, and then you turn around. It's not
- 25:36a survival and I did learn that the hard way too, but it's something
- 25:40important to know. You also live that life just in Arcave. It happens
- 25:45as long as you know it, it's at least more. It doesn't really
- 25:49make it feel a whole lot better. No, it doesn't. Is there
- 25:52a reason we don't just go full out too? L Maybe Josh can't extra
- 25:57extra time? I mean, think of about the extra time there. Do
- 26:00you remember when it was double elimination or double what was it? It was
- 26:03just straight double elimination extra time. Don't give me that that's an excuse.
- 26:10It double elimination for overall rounds? Yes, overall it'll add what a few
- 26:18more rounds probably, But that's an impact on your staff members and your judges.
- 26:22So they didn't care when it was double elimination. So why are we
- 26:26here now because I think, yeah, they care and they're trying to make
- 26:30it better. I agree on that. Yeah. Wow. Anyways, I
- 26:34just it is the one l O, the one life socks didn't matter for
- 26:40me. I went to too, I got bibity bounced. So yeah,
- 26:45after you were eliminated about the only meaningful thing going on was menagerie. Well,
- 26:52before you go there, I do want to say shout out to the
- 26:55other people who qualified, so they had outside of the top of the need
- 26:59to read every list people can read on the internet, Hey, this actually
- 27:03matters because if you look at the Arkon list, our Arkon runner up came
- 27:08from this list. Okay, so when we say that, I think that
- 27:15it does give some validity to going ahead and playing this LCQ and being able
- 27:19to then have a slot in Worlds because you can still do it really well.
- 27:23I love seeing that. I loved seeing this Cinderella story just like that.
- 27:26When we talk about world finishers, yeah, I will say that not
- 27:34only that, but Mickey also showed up in the Alliance side in the top
- 27:37four two, which was really neat to see. So you actually had an
- 27:41ARCon top four and an Alliance Top four who showed up in the LCQ.
- 27:45Certainly a lot of very good players who did not get a chance to qualify
- 27:52through the relatively few seats offered throughout our season. There are not very many
- 27:57seats, and there are definitely more good players then there are seats offered for
- 28:02this event. There were a lot of deserving people who were onable to get
- 28:07to enough events or get lucky to finish or whatever. Right like, there
- 28:14are lots of deserving people who did not get to play in Worlds. But
- 28:19that's why it's called we really yes, that is true too, so we
- 28:23did LSQ once you were down with ELSQ. Really the only real thing going
- 28:29on was Menagerie, which on day one I opened my one managerie deck.
- 28:34It had one really bad packet and one really good packet, and then I
- 28:40went on to ruin fourteen people's days by beating them. Here's here's your quarter,
- 28:47fuck your sheet. Oh that was ridiculous. I was so upset.
- 28:52Most people after playing me were like, yeah, that was not fun.
- 28:56Yeah, well I what was your Do you want to what your your big
- 29:03packet was? I had quad curses, yes, so it was all in
- 29:10my I had my geistoid house, had cursive cowardice, which actually didn't mean
- 29:18a ton in the games. It was annoying but pretty easy to manage,
- 29:22especially since my next one was Curse of Disappearance, which lets you archive every
- 29:26turn. At the end of your jurney, you picked one of your creatures
- 29:30and put it in my archive, so it's hard to establish board against that
- 29:36deck if that's down. And then the next one I had, it's a
- 29:38curse that says any creature not on a flank that shares a house with a
- 29:45neighbor gets stunned, so even if you did play a bunch of creatures,
- 29:48they all end up stunned. And then my last one was my last course
- 29:53said at the end of your turn, perch the top card of your discard
- 29:59pile. So it's just this massive, nasty grind. And then I had
- 30:03a couple other geistoid cards that let me discard five cards off top of my
- 30:07deck, and then I had the one that said I got Winds of Death,
- 30:11which is first all players archive all creatures in their discard after I just
- 30:18discarded all my cards and then destroy all creatures. So I'm archiving like fifteen
- 30:26creatures, and I have double Cup with a Taunter over in my Unfathomable house,
- 30:33so you return with that, and then they're just like, okay,
- 30:36I can play one creature and then you archive it. Yeah, this is
- 30:41gonna go great game. Yeah it was fun, but that that's not so.
- 30:48The one thing I say about what I was playing is it's not a
- 30:51real it's a it's going to be a very rare real deck because you definitely
- 30:56don't get multiple curses in the same house, right, because it's one curse
- 31:00house and they are rares and you can only get three at most so what
- 31:07I was doing is not going to be very common. Then my other my
- 31:15other packet was a really trashy anomaly exploiter packet. It came with two anomaly
- 31:21exploiters, a static charge, and a group think tank. It is depressing.
- 31:29Its still better than Shadows weapons. Day one, most people were not
- 31:33putting arc on or you were allowed to alliance your managerie decks if you wanted.
- 31:37But on day one most people were just playing their decks as is,
- 31:41and there were a lot of trashy packets out there. There were a whole
- 31:47bunch of I got the rare token generating creature as my packet, so they
- 31:52got Moller Scolar as their packet, and their deck could literally generate zero tokens.
- 31:59I saw a lot of it. I saw a lot of like I
- 32:01can't generate tokens and then having the rare token generator as your packet. So
- 32:07the amberling, I saw a few of those where you could make amberlings,
- 32:10but you couldn't actually make any amberlings. Uh. There were some other cool
- 32:16stuff, but I didn't run into anybody with a Jenka packet, not not
- 32:22on day one. I ran into a lot of stuff that couldn't deal with
- 32:24it. I did see Dev Dev Dev had a really cool five molific corn
- 32:36that was oh I played against. I don't know if it was that one
- 32:39I played against multi molific corn it was it was Crez Molific Corns was oppressive,
- 32:46but the deck didn't make amber, so sooner or later I started just
- 32:51archiving them all through my effects and I was able. But like, we
- 32:53played a long time of neither of us really doing much until I find was
- 33:00able to archive enough of his deck to be like hah and purge the top
- 33:02con. Well, let's put it this way. You and I played Sheep.
- 33:06I believe you archived eighteen of my creatures twenty was it you? Well,
- 33:13it was twenty two cards in my archive and we had like thirteen purged
- 33:19cards or something something like that. Well, I did not even choose to
- 33:22play sheet because my sweet packet just had has Sis Raptors. And this is
- 33:30why we can come back to our segment. Why SUCKI key Forge because I
- 33:35could not win a game of a Nazerie until the very very very very very
- 33:40very very end, and that was gonna head and gifted. But it did
- 33:46pay in the other side because ARCon paid very very well for me, So
- 33:52in retrospect, I will definitely take that win. But why sucker Key Forge
- 33:55is because I cannot win a game of Azerie. Boys and girls did not
- 33:59happen. The scrappers don't do much watch out for shadows weapons. I don't
- 34:06care what sheep says. Shadows weapons is straight shadows garbage. You just suck.
- 34:10That's your problem. When you get a house twelve twelve artifacts, that's
- 34:16what shadows weapons is double spike trap, double miasthma, I mean double miasma
- 34:22bomb. You're just delaying the inevitable, double seeker needle, double long fused
- 34:28mines. I forget there was another double like it was doubles of everything that
- 34:31was a weapon. So I had a house that was legitimately twelve artifacts.
- 34:38Wow, yep, My other creatures that die are so good. Yeah.
- 34:43I had another packet with Dave, but there are only three mutants. Is
- 34:45he also had a Dave packet with only three or four mutants, so it
- 34:50was low. I would have loved to have seen that ramped up and think
- 34:53of So we had the hass to raptors. We had the dav packet.
- 34:58Oh, I did have my my third packet allowed for some fun. It
- 35:02was epic Quest. However, Epic Quest I had lots of nights. But
- 35:09my first game, when I got close, good wholesome Niffle Kong, destroyed
- 35:15that chance. And then in game number three it was destroyed by a simple
- 35:23Poltergeiser, So it was an artifact destruction and I just I hung my head
- 35:28because that was my only out to be able to get a key. But
- 35:30it was That was a lot of fun. Man. I'm telling you,
- 35:34if you pull off an epiquest, you should just win the game. Question
- 35:38just say, if you do this, win the game. Yeah. Now,
- 35:43So I got I got a bunch of cool stuff. I was pretty
- 35:45happy with what I got from a packet perspective. So I got Jenka.
- 35:49That was cool. I got Sins, so I got a bunch of sins
- 35:52in a deck. That was cool. I had a fun data Forge packet
- 35:59with a bunch of like you know, clot unquote legacy stuff. But didn't
- 36:04you get the key racking too? I did. I did. I got
- 36:08the key racking house, uh, and I got Sanctum Laws. So the
- 36:15key rackting I guess I got even you know, there's multiple packets of these,
- 36:19but anyway, I did get the key racking house. The key racking
- 36:22house was uh not good. You can say it was. It was awful,
- 36:31but but you know it was fun. But basically it was the key
- 36:36racking why like all the all the creatures set on them, like if the
- 36:40key rocking is not in play, archive this creature, which if well,
- 36:49if that was on a play effect, maybe there's something there. But it
- 36:52was on a constant effect. Meaning as soon as the key racket died and
- 37:00my first game it was uh kill, it was purged with what's that code
- 37:07of sanctum card purchase of creature with power five or higher? I forget what
- 37:12that gets called harder they fall or whatever. The so I got purged and
- 37:19that almost hit just gets archived. It's like oh and like, oh you
- 37:23play a house down. That's good, I suppose, but then you have
- 37:29to you have to take a turn to archive it, like just calling because
- 37:31eventually you're going to be full of key racking cards. I guess that's what
- 37:36I would say is it would have been nice if you don't have the key
- 37:38racking they changed attacks to go search for key racking or if it is purged,
- 37:45then archive the card like in a different house, something different. But
- 37:49I saw a couple of people frustrated that they could not do anything whenever they
- 37:52got to the key racking. The beast one I heard of is somebody opened
- 37:58the key racking house, but it had Maverick more wolves in it, which
- 38:05prevented it from printing the key Racken in that pod. It's definitely some crazy
- 38:20stuff that can happen. It was okay, like I said, like mine
- 38:25was oppressive and people generally said bad things to me after I beat them,
- 38:32but I usually do it. We usually do after we face I'm a bad
- 38:37person, and I just kept doing it. But I warned people. They're
- 38:39like, yeah, you want to play it, and I said sure,
- 38:42but you're not gonna enjoy it. Well, they assumed it was just because
- 38:46they had to talk with future to be there. He did. He did
- 38:52say he said that to me. I'm like, let's plase, like,
- 38:53you're not gonna like it, and I'm like, how bad could it be?
- 38:57And then all of a sudden it starts putting the curses on me.
- 38:59I'm like, you dirty. Yeah. So I mean that was Friday right
- 39:07like it was. It was the Last Chance Qualifier, which was you know
- 39:12for what it was, but they said for how the prizes were effectively given
- 39:17out. Did they really need to play out top eight? I don't know.
- 39:23And then if the first place sky Harmed already was qualified, so he
- 39:30just ate the bye if they were going to give a first round by but
- 39:34they didn't say if they were, weren't, so who knows. There were
- 39:37other prizes? What else did they give away? They gave away something else.
- 39:42They gave away a pick off the prize wall to first place. Maybe
- 39:45it was something like that, but it was not not much. I do
- 39:50believe our top eight friend got nothing, uh, which he was close.
- 39:58Man. I picked him to win that, that was my guess. And
- 40:01he did what I knew he was gonna do, six to oh on the
- 40:04first a little bit of fire. He's never played the second half of a
- 40:07sealed big event before this one, so now I know I can only bet
- 40:12on him to go six oh. Oh, my goodness, while you guys
- 40:17are trashing our good freend loga car. He's a six oh guy. I
- 40:23mean, like he's just like sheep. He goes six to oh and loses
- 40:28in the first round. I will say one of the cool pod packets that
- 40:31I saw was a clocks packet, So keep an eye out for that if
- 40:36you're gonna pay him inn Azurie. If you want to lose all your games,
- 40:38get some clocks. Yeah. Also shadows weapons, just throw those away.
- 40:44There was definitely some rad penny stuff, some bad penny stuff there was.
- 40:50I don't even I didn't see much on I don't know what any untamed
- 40:52packets were. I had an untamed packet that had amber burst with with uh
- 41:00with hunting which and a couple okay, some fun there that that actually was
- 41:07in the last deck that I got, because I got a chance. Boys
- 41:09and girls, when you don't win games, you get more menagerie decks.
- 41:15Yeah. Four. And I was able to alliance my stuff because you got
- 41:22handed a sheet in a little envelope which gave you your nightfall ticket and your
- 41:28menagerie rules. And I played Z and Z. He's like, you can
- 41:30you can alliance these? I'm like, where does this say that? He's
- 41:34like on your on your menagerie sheet. I'm like, I didn't fucking read
- 41:37that thing. Yeah, I definitely didn't know you could do that. Not
- 41:39that I read that thing. I read it. I knew I played with
- 41:45ID. I quit playing that once people started playing me with a lions to
- 41:50access that. I'm out. That's enough of this, but that's a story
- 41:52for Saturdays Day. So did we do that? That was ended up taking
- 42:00najerie though at the end of Sunday we can share that that's part. That's
- 42:07all part of the Nazerie. Just read Day two Z we get into the
- 42:15World Championship worlds happened. So pretty much AC half of a C went into
- 42:23one room and the other half of AC, the loser half, me and
- 42:28DASCR went into the other room. Not really a lot of information shared until
- 42:36players were coming out of the first room. But DASCR, how did you
- 42:42end up in the in the open? Uh? So? Thankfully I was.
- 42:46I was better arrested that day. I I crashed when I got back
- 42:51to the hotel, and I actually when you guys were talking about the Thai
- 42:58restaurant, I was like, oh, I should ask him what the tire
- 43:00restaurant was. And then I was like sitting here for a moment, I
- 43:02was like, wait, no, I was definitely there. Yeah, you
- 43:06were there with us. I'm so out of it, dude, I thought
- 43:10you were going to sleep in our our food there. You were so out
- 43:16of it, and I'm like, just go home, dress, get some
- 43:19sleep. No, I'm gonna go back. I got to play. That's
- 43:22what you kept telling me. Literally been there for the ac picture and then
- 43:24just slept. So but yeah, I started out strong. So I started
- 43:31out going three and oh and my deck was playing well. I was feeling
- 43:37good. I felt like I was playing playing well, heads up, paying
- 43:43attention to what's going on. And uh, but then I dropped the next
- 43:46two games. And so the first game, I uh, I'm reading the
- 43:53deck list and I'm like, oh cool, no, no, uh scale
- 44:00emberor h. And we started playing right and I start bursting and uh,
- 44:09he goes Eric plays a Legacy last Scroll. I'm like, well, wait
- 44:17a second. So I grabbed the card right like because like it was like,
- 44:22wait, wait, we just talked about this card. Oh crap.
- 44:27Uh you know a Dark Tidings Legacy rare which says, oh yeah, all
- 44:32your excess ember right, each of your creatures capture an excess ember when you
- 44:37foured a key. So I was like, a crap. So I definitely
- 44:40played into that incorrectly. Ended up being really close in the end. We
- 44:46we both made some mistakes in that game, but uh just just barely lost
- 44:52there, and I was like, darn, I could have I could have
- 44:57could have set myself up for success better, played that differently and been in
- 45:01much better shape, and uh the now. Then the game after that,
- 45:08it was, uh, my opponent had this big artifact deck where he was
- 45:13just laying out tons of artifacts and uh, you know, he started out
- 45:19slow, but as he gained momentum, double tourist trap just given me,
- 45:23giving me his tokens taking all my good stuff right, And it was also
- 45:28very close. There was a lot of like trickiness right at the end of
- 45:31the game, and I was like doing this optimally, like I feel like
- 45:36this is the right move, but I'm not sure, and I lost.
- 45:40Unfortunately. Now it turns out that Ben the Monkey was standing always behind me.
- 45:45Uh he was being good Like I didn't even know he was there.
- 45:49So he came over to me and he was like, I don't think there
- 45:52was anything you could have done, Like even if you had gone, you
- 45:54know, the other path, he would have just had the same results.
- 45:58So it was like, Okay, that maybe feel a little better that I
- 46:00didn't misplay on that one. But it was it was just each had like
- 46:07a million umber and we just kept stopping each other from forging uh And I
- 46:13ran out of a oh when my Destroyer of the Mall was all the way
- 46:17on the bottom of the deck in the last three cards, so I never
- 46:20got to take out any of his artifacts, which was unfortunate. So that
- 46:24was a that was an l but so I was unfortunate. But but overall,
- 46:32I thought, my my deck. I'm gonna practice more with that deck.
- 46:37I liked the deck, and I'm gonna play with it again. I
- 46:40wasn't I wasn't angry at the deck. I made some misplays myself. All
- 46:50right, what did you finish? Full three and two? So I guess
- 46:57they've told you what place or whatever in the app I remember, Yeah,
- 47:00I wasn't paying attention either. I went too and two both of my loss.
- 47:05RNG was a cruel, cruel mistress to me this weekend. First game,
- 47:10my deck came out upside down. I am playing Donovan, I know
- 47:15what I need. I discard three cards into five. Don't get it.
- 47:20That's basically GG. I knew at that point that I didn't get it.
- 47:22So it was over. Game two and three go the way Donovan should go.
- 47:29I think it was one key to the first game was one key to
- 47:34three. Second game was no keys to three. So riding pretty high,
- 47:39feeling pretty good until I ran into the largest high role I've ever run into
- 47:45since Doctor Sheep at a regional tournament. First turn MK two Generator make token
- 47:52token his grunt. Next turn he lays out six Mars creatures and some more
- 47:57tokens. Nice. So at that point I'm like, Okay, this is
- 48:00over. There's no reason for him to ever leave Mars at that point,
- 48:06which he just didn't, and just three turns later I lost. So that
- 48:12that sucked. It was it was a lot of not fun and well,
- 48:16but it is what it is. You know. Sometimes orang yeah tells you
- 48:21she loves you, and sometimes she's burning your clothes on the front lawn.
- 48:23You know, these things they happen. Yeah, I mean, the the
- 48:28Donovan is such a powerful back, right, But if you just flop a
- 48:32huge board, it's well, it has time, right, it has a
- 48:37gateway, it's got some it's got some c but not massive amounts. Well,
- 48:43yeah, it's not taking care of it's not taking care of you know,
- 48:47pretty much. Eight creatures turn turned two, like, my only option
- 48:52was to have the gateway, to which I did not, So I'm like,
- 48:55what, I have the most of them, maybe I can find it
- 48:58and stabilize. Played it, went to go find it, didn't happen.
- 49:05Next turn, I'm like, well, I mean this is pretty pretty much
- 49:07over. Tried again, didn't happen, and I knew. I knew it
- 49:12was done. So it sucked. It is what it is, Rang,
- 49:15just as Rang can't be mad at her. But that was me and Drascord's
- 49:21experience. Ewok, what was going on over in the tournament that mattered section?
- 49:27Oh, it all mattered. But over in the Arkhan side, I
- 49:31did not have a buy so I started right away playing math and love so
- 49:36Elliott, who was one of our play in people from the LCQ, and
- 49:40this deck it ended up winning. I was playing Melondrac, which is a
- 49:45WOA dack and the three houses there are Synctum Starlines and Unfathomable and triple be
- 49:55Fun if you're wondering, Yeah it is. It is a triple befun double
- 50:00membership drive, and so it's a it's a fun deck for me to play,
- 50:07not necessarily for others to play against, but Elliott was basically playing with
- 50:13TMTP and he had some nice steal going, so I actually had to kind
- 50:17of restrain myself. There was a part near the end where I had a
- 50:22chance to do my double membership drive and actually discarded one of the membership drives
- 50:28because it was going to send me instead of it was going to send me
- 50:31to nine just from that second membership drive, and so I stated, I
- 50:36waited right at five, and at that point I knew that he most likely
- 50:40had the TMTP because there were three cards left. So just trying to play
- 50:45clean and play smart, and I finished that game. Round number two I've
- 50:50faced off against team member Nova or Legend of Elena and well known deck with
- 50:57Jacques I It basically the game was determined in the opening series. I did
- 51:06mulligan. I did not see the cards that I wanted my turn then for
- 51:10playing, I dropped down Colonel Marianna, which is a five power one armor
- 51:16Spirit Night. It does have capture, but that wasn't anything to really worry
- 51:21about. She dropped down Oduac and from there I decided on my next turn
- 51:28to go ahead and fight my Colonel Marianna, and I used a card which
- 51:34is renewed life, so an amber action from sanctum rare fully heal a creature,
- 51:39make a token creature for each damaged heel this way. Now Nova did
- 51:45have a failing strike. She opted to play it for the amber, but
- 51:49not to damage because she had not played Oduac at that point, and so
- 51:53that was a decision. We talked kind of after. She's like, I
- 51:57could have mitigated this by playing and then actually exalting Odoac in order to do
- 52:02it again. I still think she made the right call, but it was
- 52:05an interesting thought process to kind of see. But I played out four creatures
- 52:09and I now have the board. I went with Membership Drive to check to
- 52:15follow up right after that, and so that was a pretty brutal turn and
- 52:19then I was able to basically double befuddle and pretty much lock the game up.
- 52:25So that game was done very very quick. Round three, I actually
- 52:30faced off against a good friend who I placed from volt Warriors online, and
- 52:36that was Ashi Taka so from France and AFK and Sebastian was on a really
- 52:43really really tricky MM deck and this this deck I had practiced ahead of time.
- 52:49I knew that it was going to be here, and honestly, I
- 52:52could not beat it in the practices that I ran up against. So I
- 52:55knew what would be kind of key to be able to hold, and that
- 52:59was my release. And this game was a brain burner. It was really
- 53:07It required a lot. I had an early lead, I got to second
- 53:13key, and then Ashitaka just took over the It was a lethological deck with
- 53:22dav and man like Cronus to archive. I want to say, on a
- 53:25given turn for logos, Ashitaka was able to go ahead and easily archive ten
- 53:31ten plus cards and I'm not joking about that. To see that happen,
- 53:36that was it was scary. So we kind of battled back and forth,
- 53:42and eventually I made the choice that I had to hold my catch and release,
- 53:49and I held it for probably a solid three turns. But Ashtaka finally
- 53:52made a choice to go ahead and call back his archives. But he played
- 53:57his off house and he was with cards in hand, and at that point
- 54:02I had a whole bunch of captured amber, but I needed a push,
- 54:06and so I played the catch and release knowing that it would send him to
- 54:09eleven Amber, and I basically pushed. I'd be fuddled so that he was
- 54:17not able to go ahead and play cards. He had not drawn Fount of
- 54:22the Eye in this matchup, and he ended up having to discard eleven of
- 54:29his cards because catch and release. I had to be fuddled ahead of time,
- 54:35so I did call a sanctum, and that was dangerous because all he
- 54:39had to do was gain one more amber, and I could not stop him
- 54:43at all. And luck was on my side because he did not have the
- 54:47amber in hand, even though his sanctum did have some amber pips. And
- 54:52that was the game. So he shook hands and I went on to game
- 54:55number four, which was against Matt or the Revent line from England. So
- 55:01shout out to Matt. I know, man, you were really worried about
- 55:06our game. But he was on Sasha, and if you are not familiar
- 55:09with Sasha, Sasha is solid traditional aoa so double Martian generosity key abduction deck.
- 55:17And not only that, but it's also double drummer, not double gang
- 55:21or not so double ganger, double drummer not. It's a brutal, brutal,
- 55:27brutal deck. But my befuddles I was able to kind of keep control
- 55:31of the board early on he really didn't get much going. So both with
- 55:37Nova and Matt, I kind of just didn't let them play cards. I
- 55:42know Nova had joked about only playing four cards in our game, and it
- 55:45did come a few more later on, but at that point the game was
- 55:49pretty much over, and the same was for Matts. So both of those,
- 55:52Nova was three to one, Matt was three zero, and I was
- 55:55just ecstatic. Man, I went to four and oh, and I couldn't
- 55:59really believe how lucky I had been, but also clean play and playing to
- 56:04my optimal outs, and so I was like static. And then they went
- 56:09ahead and said, well you have the buye and they welcomed me into day
- 56:15too. And it's still hard to be able to kind of picture that series
- 56:21of events because I'm used to Philly just grinding it out or being able to
- 56:25struggle through. None of the games went to time, in fact, all
- 56:30season long, outside of the two games that I had in Philly with the
- 56:36tie deck, and I had the one game in Dallas that went to time
- 56:39that was just a crazy first person win that there was nothing here at world.
- 56:44So they were all clean games, all finished with plenty of time,
- 56:47and I made it to Day two so both Paul and myself. I know
- 56:52we've been talking earlier, but Paul actually qualified as one of that last chance
- 56:59qualifiers and he ended up taking seconds. So I saw a mo coming from
- 57:05Kansas City. Is actually the person who runs the Kansas City. So shout
- 57:08out if you're going this weekend. I don't even know if it'll make it
- 57:10out, but Paul Man, you put in so much time, so I
- 57:15love seeing him there and love seeing that last chance qualifier being able to make
- 57:19it all the way up to seconds. We are on day one ewok,
- 57:24one day one. We are only going through events that have transpired on day
- 57:30one. Yeah, and both him and I made it to day two because
- 57:35we were four and oh, there you go. I'm pulling a sheep.
- 57:37I'm just playing some TCO games. Yeah yeah, actually I went on TCO.
- 57:43Sheep is not there. But speaking of sheep, how was your day
- 57:45one? This is the day two? Right? No, we are still
- 57:49on day one, Day one of worlds Day one world of celebration depends on
- 57:55where you look at it. Ah. Yeah, so I didn't have as
- 58:04good of a result as he walked, so my memories are not nearly as
- 58:07positive. What happened. Please tell us. Well, so I did start
- 58:14with the first round, by which means you were kicked out of the room,
- 58:20so standing around with not much do. I think I did play one
- 58:23Menagerie game, but I can't remember for sure. But that first round also
- 58:30had games going to time, so we stood around for forty five minutes and
- 58:37then it was seriously over thirty minutes after round one time or hit before we
- 58:45started round two, they were doing this thing where after every round you had
- 58:52a judge pick up your deck. That's great, right, fine, but
- 58:57then they were setting all the decks out for every game each round and it
- 59:00was taking for freaking ever. It was just just so much time wasted,
- 59:07so just doing nothing that was a lot of what it felt like to me.
- 59:13Plus I'm playing fraud, which is pretty fast, although one game did
- 59:16go pretty long, but I it's just tons of time in every round.
- 59:22There would seemed like there's fifteen twenty twenty five minutes between rounds because they were
- 59:27taking all the decks back to a table and then they had to find them
- 59:30all to put them back out on the table. We took notes on our
- 59:32drive home on Wedyes. They can fix this this isn't why we're here,
- 59:36but that was. It was just more time that didn't get us anywhere.
- 59:45But I think I think the solution was really simple that you came up with.
- 59:47But we're not here to give them solutions. I'm here to bitch,
- 59:52so that's what I'm going to do. So the solution, Jos, you
- 1:00:00we can do another day was running long, yeah, but it was to
- 1:00:05put out the decks by number one through thirty two and as you come into
- 1:00:07the room, grab your deck and go. I actually liked that they white
- 1:00:10gloved it. It was very similar to a top eight that you would have
- 1:00:14at any Vault tour, So I liked that they did that. But we
- 1:00:16could have we could have streamlined it by just putting it on a table the
- 1:00:20deck. The judges took it after top it will take your deck back after
- 1:00:24no. No for they for for dates, just for the deck check.
- 1:00:29Oh yeah, that was something that Wookie alluded to. We didn't talk about.
- 1:00:32They deck checked for both tournaments on day on Worlds which is good,
- 1:00:40right, like this is reasonable. They checked out the cards, they checked
- 1:00:44out the sleeves, but it took that took at least an hour, right
- 1:00:47because alliance takes forever too well. The only reason it was notable to me
- 1:00:52is because we were not allowed to start on our end because they were still
- 1:00:58waiting for you guys on your end. Yeah, it was. It was
- 1:01:00a huge line. I refused to stand in line, so I was I
- 1:01:04was. I was playing. I was playing a managerie game during check in
- 1:01:07with Ben the Monkey because the lines were huge, and I'm like, why
- 1:01:13why would I stand in a line? Right Like? They can't start this
- 1:01:15without me, so I'll just be the last person. This is fine.
- 1:01:19But that took an anordinate amount of time. Uh. Then I didn't play
- 1:01:25the first round, so I sat around did nothing, and then waited half
- 1:01:30an hour between rounds, so I did some more nothing. Then I finally
- 1:01:34got to pray my first game. It is on stream. It was with
- 1:01:37Coco Gin. It had a lot of very high luck on both of our
- 1:01:43parts, but mine was just a little bit more. I won, went
- 1:01:45on to win a couple more games, and then I got in round four.
- 1:01:50I got put up against Paul uh who was your last chance qualifier,
- 1:01:55borrowing a scholar deck, and on turn two he ruled a s his scholars
- 1:02:00on me, and then even tried to play tight around me having IG,
- 1:02:07so he didn't even after the first key. He didn't even go much over
- 1:02:12six, which I did not have IG, and I lost that game.
- 1:02:16It was pretty close. It was two keys to three keys, and I
- 1:02:20had a bunch of amber. I never actually had an opening to win the
- 1:02:23game, but it was still pretty close. That's how it goes. So
- 1:02:29I'm down one. We leave the room. Round ends. Twenty minutes after
- 1:02:35the round ends, they have us come back in and they announced Ewok and
- 1:02:39Paul as qualified, and then they say this like, maybe you'll have two
- 1:02:44rounds. We don't really know, but the rest of you have to play
- 1:02:47more rounds. So however long we all wander around, they finally set out
- 1:02:54decks. There are six of us left or twelve of us left playing in
- 1:03:00our coon at this point, so those who are good with math could already
- 1:03:04see where this is going. So there's no shite. I don't know where
- 1:03:07this is going. Please tell us, Yes, there's twelve of us,
- 1:03:10we play this. I got to run into some of the awesome players that
- 1:03:15came from out of the country at this part, so it was great,
- 1:03:17Like all my games were great. I was thrilled to play them. They
- 1:03:22were good people to play with. The people made this event. The event
- 1:03:28didn't make it, but the people were awesome. Right, is why we're
- 1:03:31here. It's why I'm still here, because otherwise I think I could have
- 1:03:37packed up and quit key Forge after this weekend. It was really unsatisfactory.
- 1:03:44But I got to play Algron and I got to play Kiv. So after
- 1:03:50after twelve, there's six of us. Two slots are already filled. There
- 1:03:53are six players left, okay, so we play again. I played against
- 1:03:59Kiv. This one was also on stream. You can watch us make a
- 1:04:04mess of soul Keeper, which then two turns later the judge comes in and
- 1:04:09goes, really, your second grammar Jambers should be dead, which puts Kiv
- 1:04:16at six Amber. He's playing a Martian Generosity deck, so he doesn't really
- 1:04:19want to be at six amber so that he has to forge a key when
- 1:04:25he might have not played an Amber on his card before and been able to
- 1:04:29have five Amber for his keep. So h that was a disaster of a
- 1:04:33game. Result wise, I think fraud is still fairly favored because I key
- 1:04:38cheat the way I do like. It was not It was not a satisfactory
- 1:04:45game because the play mistake may have made a difference in the game, but
- 1:04:49you don't know. I've spent the rest of today fighting with people on why
- 1:04:54soul Keeper ruling doesn't make any sense, but what I didn't see it,
- 1:05:00So Soulkeeper totally off subject here. But when Soulkeeper triggers, if you have
- 1:05:09multiple creatures of the same power, right, probably the most powerful creature rule
- 1:05:13you have to pick which one is the most powerful. But in this case,
- 1:05:17I'd fought with one of my grabber Jammers, which put enough damage on
- 1:05:20it to mark it for destruction, right, and then destroyed effects are going
- 1:05:26off. The creature I fought had the soul Keeper on it, so the
- 1:05:30Soulkeeper destroyed effect goes off, and now it has to target. I have
- 1:05:32two grabber Jammers on the board, so I'm like, well, I just
- 1:05:36wanted to rekill my grabber Jammer, and Kev's like yep, and we went
- 1:05:40on right, And then later they came, oh, no, I can't
- 1:05:44target your grabber Jammer because it's already marked for destruction, so it has to
- 1:05:49kill the other grabber Jammer. And I'm guessing you only had one other creature
- 1:05:54on the board. Well, it was the two grabber jammers. It doesn't
- 1:05:56matter. They're the equal power highest power creatures on my side of the right
- 1:06:00and anyone following along at home. Soulkeeper is a dis upgrade. This creature
- 1:06:05gains destroyed destroy the most powerful enemy creature. Yes, so it because there
- 1:06:13is a rule in destroyed that a creature take for destruction cannot be chosen to
- 1:06:17be destroyed again. The argument is, Soulkeeper, because you are now choosing
- 1:06:21most powerful creature because it's tied. Can't choose that, but Soulkeeper. There's
- 1:06:29an FAQ ruling. If there's a six power creature and a five power creature,
- 1:06:32the six powers already marked, it doesn't pass down to the five because
- 1:06:36there is no It's like they're saying, if it's a tie, you do
- 1:06:42make a choice, so now you can't target a destroyed thing. But if
- 1:06:45it's the sixth you're not making a choice, so you're it. It still
- 1:06:50makes no sense to me. I hate this ruling. Whatever they did it.
- 1:06:55I did end up winning against Kiv because his deck on a Martian Generosity
- 1:07:00turn, he did miss drawing a shatterstorm, which is his primary amber control,
- 1:07:06which he's looping with proliferators and brain stems, and it's it's cool what
- 1:07:11he's doing, but it didn't quite have enough creature control on the turns.
- 1:07:15He needed it to stop me from just kind of logos drawing until I was
- 1:07:18getta the abduction, regardless of the fact he kept burning all of my amber.
- 1:07:25So that was it was as bad. It was a little bit on
- 1:07:32satisfactory. But now as we're saying, there were six people, so now
- 1:07:36there are three people left, you walk Paul already qualified, Ashtaka, myself
- 1:07:44and Dorian are left. How do you decide who gets the last two spots?
- 1:07:59You can't. You couldn't even round robin it because there's no guarantee.
- 1:08:01We all don't just go one in one in a round robin, so that's
- 1:08:04not really a choice at that point. Plus it's not part of their tournament
- 1:08:08format. Well, it turns out, so I understand which none of this
- 1:08:14next part is guaranteed fact because they don't give us facts. But what I
- 1:08:17have learned is that the way play style is now meant to run is its
- 1:08:26designed to do a playing round when it can instead of doing They did tell
- 1:08:31us at the very beginning of the event, there was gonna be no asteroids
- 1:08:35of space, just eliminating you on strength of schedule. So instead of that,
- 1:08:42the new system is random person gets in. So instead of instead of
- 1:08:49asteroid, it's now golden treasure chest. And so I've been thinking about this
- 1:08:55a lot because it's I'm really angry about it and the reason and I I
- 1:09:00don't want to say this now for those of you not following. Basically,
- 1:09:03whoever gets the buy is automatically in the money, automatically in the automatically because
- 1:09:10the worst you can do is fourth place, which is fifteen hundred dollars.
- 1:09:14That person's automatically going to get into the money in this no play in nothing.
- 1:09:19So I've been thinking about this. It is it was super unsatisfactory.
- 1:09:25Uh and actually I had the least worse experience of it. I'll talk about
- 1:09:30that on a second. But like I understand what they did and the choices
- 1:09:34they made, and when I'm looking at cutting to a top eighted a vault
- 1:09:39tour, yeah, somebody gets the golden I don't know whatever. We got
- 1:09:43to figure out what this is called the golden cherry, the golden ticket,
- 1:09:46the golden key. They get the golden key, right, and they're just
- 1:09:50gifted in to the last round. Actually in Dallas, this did work that
- 1:09:56way for Citha Magmar, who end up winning that event. He did not
- 1:10:00play the last round. He was a bye and got in right. So
- 1:10:10like, this isn't new, but you still have to then get to top
- 1:10:13eight and then you still have to play. You're not just like gifted to
- 1:10:15because top eight, as we know, a Vulteurs wins you absolutely nothing.
- 1:10:20Yep, it feels a little less bad to me versus this one where they're
- 1:10:24just like and you get money and you two go play and figure it out.
- 1:10:30I played Dorian at this point of the day, Like people can see,
- 1:10:38I am not in a good mood about how this event is playing out.
- 1:10:42I had maybe four hours of sleep, for as much as I tried
- 1:10:45to sleep, like the anxiousness the night before was getting me. I played
- 1:10:50definitely my worst game of key Forge that whole weekend against Dorian. He deserves
- 1:10:57his win. His deck played very well. I may made a couple of
- 1:11:00mistakes and kind of half trap myself. So like, I'm not upset I
- 1:11:06lost that game. I'm upset how the event was run that led to that
- 1:11:15game. It was super frustrating because you could see many rounds earlier. Actually,
- 1:11:23when you start looking at the math of a thirty two round tournament,
- 1:11:26as soon as you enter, like any first round bys, you're guaranteed to
- 1:11:30have a disaster at the end. So first round bys, which were gifted
- 1:11:38out as a thing under the old true doubly limb bracket disaster actually works just
- 1:11:45fine, right because you're playing a true bracket, So it works just fine
- 1:11:48if you do it there, But it does not work with too l O
- 1:11:51Swiss because the goofy buy thing ends up at the end with an uneven number
- 1:11:58of players, so it's really it's early round byes and not full correct numbers
- 1:12:06of brackets. Really makes a mess in too l O at the end.
- 1:12:10So although I still think it is the right thing for Vault tours and could
- 1:12:15be the right thing for Worlds, but not with buys. Like if you
- 1:12:19got rid of all the first round byes, then what happens is at four
- 1:12:24to ZHO two people are auto qualified. You play two more rounds and there
- 1:12:28are exactly two people left that have one win and they're in, and it's
- 1:12:33clean, right, there's no weirdness. Everybody played sort of the same number
- 1:12:39of games, except the four h people got in fairly easily. Did this
- 1:12:45just? Did this just happen in ARCon Or? Was this Alliance? So
- 1:12:49mine was on satisfactory. But it is what it is, and that's that's
- 1:12:54how it goes. No, Josh, buys are not as important as having
- 1:13:00a clean, correctly run tournament. That was terrible by far, Like you
- 1:13:09have got so much hate in the community about the way these things ended,
- 1:13:12and Alliance was worse. So the way Alliance worked is it was a different
- 1:13:16number of people, so there were slightly different buys. I don't know exactly
- 1:13:20where their counts were, but as my understanding, in round six Dave Cordero,
- 1:13:27who did get into the top four, had a bye, and then
- 1:13:30round seven they apparently still had exactly three players. I'm not sure exactly how
- 1:13:35that goes, but I know the very last round they also had exactly three
- 1:13:40players. It was Gorlami, Dave, and whoever the third person was.
- 1:13:47I'm not sure because it's Alliance Chip Baby player HERB, player herb Okay,
- 1:13:56so player HERP got the bye, which means, in a non top cut
- 1:14:01scenario, they repaired Gorlami and Dave who had already played earlier in this proxy
- 1:14:09Swiss tournament. It's not true Swiss, I understand, but this proxy Swiss
- 1:14:13tournament. The way their system works is that randomly assigns a bye and then
- 1:14:18doesn't validate the pairing and says go so Dave and Gorlami who played earlier,
- 1:14:26and our teammates had to play again to decide. Fact that they go to
- 1:14:31the top four, the fact that their teammates are that's irrelevant, Like it
- 1:14:36sucks, but that's that's funny. It's funny and it sucks, but like
- 1:14:41it's it's an irrelevant fact. You're right, it is irrelevant. It just
- 1:14:45hurts more for them as players. But the fact that they had to play
- 1:14:48twice before Top cut is just appalling to me personally, especially after having to
- 1:14:57play somebody immediately in Top cut after just playing them in regular Like the whole
- 1:15:01pairing system is just thing, and then their whole thing that according to them,
- 1:15:08there's a random by assigned like not strength of schedule. There is no
- 1:15:13math any player could do to say this was done right or wrong, like
- 1:15:16random byes are rife for misuse. Anytime you say random is garbage, well,
- 1:15:28I think what the choice. Yeah, I think the worst choice you
- 1:15:30can make, especially when you're putting twelve thousand dollars on the line and randomly
- 1:15:35you get to play for it. You two other guys have to figure it
- 1:15:38out, like the worst possible thing I think you could do in that situation.
- 1:15:43No, it is probably not the worst possible thing. They could just
- 1:15:45say, hey, we're not giving any money away because it's not going There's
- 1:15:48plenty of other stupidly terrible things, but the choices. And I also understand
- 1:15:54like they started by giving buyes and then they switched to to l oh and
- 1:15:59it's like, how to we fixed the disaster we made ourselves? Can't walk
- 1:16:02it back? I don't know. I don't actually have the answer on what
- 1:16:09they should have done leading into this tournament, but the math was easy to
- 1:16:15do to figure out what this raise my hand playing constantly that this was gonna
- 1:16:20be problem. Okay, I'll quit ranting for a bit, but I just
- 1:16:23have a question. So let's say they go to a hard top eight cut.
- 1:16:26Does that make something? Does that make it better or all? I
- 1:16:29didn't do any research or anything on it, but if they had done a
- 1:16:31straight hard eight top cut, here at least in ARCon And again I don't
- 1:16:36have all the Alliance numbers. There was a point where there were two four
- 1:16:40to o's and six x ones perfect top eight cut nothing weird, let them
- 1:16:45play single limbout like what a work. But they'd already said it was going
- 1:16:47to be top four. So what I think needed to happen at that point
- 1:16:53when you got to eight was that we cut, we repair, and then
- 1:16:57you cut down to four for the play. I know that odd, but
- 1:17:00I think that is the line. It's easy to see on Monday morning as
- 1:17:03Monday morning quarterback, but this was a real feel bads moment because there was
- 1:17:09money that was at stake, and it was feel bads for you in that
- 1:17:13fifth spot. Again, during played great. He deserved to be able to
- 1:17:16go ahead and have that win. Please know that Gorlami and Dave had played
- 1:17:21their matchup as teammates many times before, so earlier in the day Gorlami won
- 1:17:27that and and I actually walked in was talking to him and asked Gorlami,
- 1:17:30how you doing. He's like, not great. I just took out my
- 1:17:33teammate and you could hear Dave over next door go ahead, a shout yeah,
- 1:17:38you did, and then from this and then from there he literally said
- 1:17:42his odds they've played the matchup before. His odds were so unlikely, a
- 1:17:46very very very very small percentage, well under fifty percent. But again he
- 1:17:53pulled it out in that time. It is key forged cards can happen.
- 1:17:56But that's that's got to be absolutely depressing. When you've done everything else that
- 1:18:01should be done correctly, you've made it in and you know, cards just
- 1:18:05don't fall free for the one time. And that's a difference of a significant
- 1:18:10amount of money, because there was a money break between four and everyone else.
- 1:18:14So as as a matter of fact, this crazy buy in and four
- 1:18:23or five are playing for who gets in and gets out and one person's gifted
- 1:18:27in happening alliance open as well because of odd numbers. So I think,
- 1:18:30really, if they want to keep this system at the minimum, they have
- 1:18:36to eliminate the cut at top four, like getting gifted into top four is
- 1:18:43like supposedly the buys are totally random, and at the point that it was
- 1:18:47the three of us in ARCon we'd already all had a single buy somewhere.
- 1:18:51Actually, I think we were all first round buys, all three of us
- 1:18:55at quality. You know, so like some one of us was getting a
- 1:18:59second by but supposedly that doesn't actually matter how many buys you have had,
- 1:19:03but nobody knows because the system isn't actually public or shared it it could be
- 1:19:12anything. It could be jermy in the back going random this one like there's
- 1:19:16nothing, like there's no transparency to it, which is also kind of poor.
- 1:19:25I don't think they did anything shady, but just the fact that like
- 1:19:29the same thing they made us have to not be transparent with decks is the
- 1:19:33same reason the tournament software needs to be transparent right to a reasonable degree.
- 1:19:41Like I understand it's not going to give you all the details on how it
- 1:19:44randomly seeds pairings, but like on how buys are assigned later and it being
- 1:19:50random is just I don't know. It just doesn't feel right. Like I
- 1:19:59said, I don't have a problem with any of my losses, Like the
- 1:20:00players who beat me played well and they beat me, and it's it's what
- 1:20:06it is. Yeah, Eric is saying. Eric Waters is sitting the chat.
- 1:20:14I think this happened in all three, at all four of the events.
- 1:20:17No, it didn't happen in This happened in both the open events too,
- 1:20:21y a very similar thing. It didn't happen in regular Open because they
- 1:20:25did top cut to eight there. Oh well, I know it happened in
- 1:20:30Alliance Open. Yes, but it didn't happen open because it because it top
- 1:20:35cut to eight. Now maybe I'm pretty sure was it because somebody came to
- 1:20:41me complaining about how it was done and it was a random by and two
- 1:20:45people got repaired like your exact scenario happened again. Yeah, well, it
- 1:20:49happened in several places, and it's I it happens. Is it the best
- 1:20:56decision they could have made for this event? I don't think so. I
- 1:21:00don't. They built themselves into a bad corner and just said let's roll with
- 1:21:10it, which is something right. And you know they have shown improvement across
- 1:21:17most things across the seasons, like hopefully we'll see improvement on this. I
- 1:21:26mean, I'm a believer in, at least at a world's level tournament,
- 1:21:30the cleanness of the brackets and the play has to be as good as you
- 1:21:38can make it, and random buys could have zero impact at a world's level
- 1:21:45tournament where you are selecting the number of players. I understand as soon as
- 1:21:49you don't get to select the number of players down to the te it's going
- 1:21:54to get messy, right, because you get odd numbers, and that's a
- 1:21:59thing. But when you get to select the number of players, you should
- 1:22:01be able to build a bracket that does not end up in randomness deciding random
- 1:22:08buys, deciding who goes somewhere and who doesn't. Bigger open tournaments and stuff
- 1:22:15like where you can't set the number of people, there's gonna be messiness somewhere
- 1:22:20it's okay, but at worlds, at the world's level, it it really
- 1:22:25is not. Oh so they should do a double alimb, right, true,
- 1:22:29double alimb, that's what that's what look, he said, So when
- 1:22:32it's that way next year, we can all blame it on him. That
- 1:22:35week, Well, I guess I don't know. I wouldn't have cared,
- 1:22:39But yeah, I what time if you do the Swiss doublelimb? Right?
- 1:22:44Right? If we just keep double like three two? People do that because
- 1:22:48that makes a mess I think, because somewhere a two to one or an
- 1:22:53x one plays an XO and you can get an odd number and then the
- 1:22:56whole system's broke. Yeah. No, people, you do the tool and
- 1:23:01you you just keep it to exactly thirty two. That's what you do.
- 1:23:08End up with an odd number, odd number with thirty two people. That
- 1:23:15would never happen you. Yeah, because when you have two four ohs,
- 1:23:20okay, you then have one five oh who has to play a four to
- 1:23:25one, And now you can get an odd number of players after that round,
- 1:23:29depending on who wins, because if the X one, if the XO
- 1:23:32wins, if the XO loses, you now didn't lose half your players.
- 1:23:40You lost half your players minus one. So now you're back to odd numbers.
- 1:23:44This format, Swiss pairing with two l oh does not guarantee a clean
- 1:23:53event, right that without doing the kind of top cut they do, Like
- 1:23:59the kind of top cut they do where you cut two xo's at some point
- 1:24:03and go, you can get it. But if you just run a true
- 1:24:06or if you run a double elimination Swiss bracket, you can't guarantee a clean
- 1:24:12bracket and it will get dirty somewhere down the line. It's just how the
- 1:24:17math works. Maybe it works out perfect, that's unlikely. You're probably gonna
- 1:24:23end up with a dirty bracket at some point, so I don't I'm not
- 1:24:29here to provide the answers right now. I'm just here to say that the
- 1:24:32bracket that was run at Worlds should not be the answer next year. It
- 1:24:40was like what started out as mediocre playing sealed because I didn't really get to
- 1:24:45play sealed because of my own choice. It's fine, and then kind of
- 1:24:51the medium high of menagerie because my deck's winning and you know, making people
- 1:24:57miserable sometimes is fun. Then fall by, like the start of a day
- 1:25:01where I'm doing very well in arc On Worlds and then they're saying, oh,
- 1:25:06maybe it's only two more rounds, and I keep winning exactly a number
- 1:25:09of rounds where I think I'm again that oh no, you got to play
- 1:25:12again, Oh no, you got to play again, and I'm like,
- 1:25:14I just like the frustration. And then you can see how the brackets are
- 1:25:17building out, and we know this byas coming. So there's like going into
- 1:25:21that round of three, we're all just going like, who's the lucky person?
- 1:25:27And it was not me? And then not only was it not me,
- 1:25:30and then I lost and it's just like this is also nearing six o'clock
- 1:25:36at night, like it was a long day of key Forge, which wasn't
- 1:25:43even always playing key Forge because there were half an hour breaks between of a
- 1:25:47lot of rounds. Just it was so I played no Menagerie after that because
- 1:25:53I played. Basically I played all day and I get I get tickets again,
- 1:26:00there's tickets for a prize ball, but essentially in my world, I
- 1:26:04got absolutely nothing but the play experience, with which the people was great.
- 1:26:10But I just like again the amount of work I have put into key Forge,
- 1:26:15the amount of events I have top cut this year or got near because
- 1:26:21I didn't top cut them all, Like outside of Canada, I've got nothing.
- 1:26:27I my name's not on a leader board. I have nothing but the
- 1:26:30pins I paid for or the patches that Marcus made for us. Like a
- 1:26:38shut up, I'm ending this year with almost nothing for my effort, which
- 1:26:45you know, like I'm only almost good enough. I get that right.
- 1:26:49At least under the old system, I was like top ten, so I
- 1:26:53looked good enough even though I'm really only almost good enough. This is just
- 1:26:58like the end of the season, which we're getting into some other stuff.
- 1:27:00Is got to be the most disappointing part of key Forge I think I've ever
- 1:27:10had to live through. So because I lost and then they went into the
- 1:27:20Then we got ctp's little speech. Yep, I will I will give a
- 1:27:27pause for a quick little break. You talked about Marcus Marcus and the judge
- 1:27:31quest. So he collected the little badges from Marcus. Super super cool.
- 1:27:35He did that all on his own, huge shout out. It's one of
- 1:27:39the tokens that I really really appreciate. Call it trinket, whatever it was,
- 1:27:43but it's a momento that is important to me from this season. And
- 1:27:46not only that, but all the jerseys that he wore from each of the
- 1:27:49different vaults. He had kind of a little scavenger hunter quest to figure out
- 1:27:54what's the meaning was behind it? So super cool. If you ever gone
- 1:27:57to a con, you have kind of that puzzle to be able to solve
- 1:28:00and huge. The only thing I will say is you got that sheet and
- 1:28:04I had never seen it. If you if you had all the vaults,
- 1:28:11it was someone it was no, No, I never even got a sheet.
- 1:28:15Oh you've gone to the vaults, why would you get one? Going
- 1:28:18on? It's just about reaching out, But I know it was exclusive to
- 1:28:24us. Cool folk. I will say Mark Marcus did talk about at that
- 1:28:28exclusivity, right, Yeah, Vault Master baby, I will say Mark Marcus.
- 1:28:34Marcus did talk about next year actually being able to put out a quest
- 1:28:38for each of the different vaults or whatever if he is able to go ahead
- 1:28:43and be a judge again. So I think that's really neat. So that's
- 1:28:48a are we actually we're not going to cover the State of the Union speech
- 1:28:53tonight, right, No, I believe the State of the Union next week.
- 1:28:56That's a separate other topic because it is part of my story here.
- 1:29:01So we then go to the Union, which expect more downer sheep for when
- 1:29:06we do that. There was absolutely nothing in that that brought me up right,
- 1:29:17it was. There was nothing in that that help. It took my
- 1:29:25already bad mood and made it worse. Like I seriously like if I could
- 1:29:30have left after that, I would have been gone. I was done.
- 1:29:34I'm done with all of that crap. It was awful. Well, so
- 1:29:48we'll get into it. So then they did the speech and then we then
- 1:29:57the next thing was the not Secret Grimmer Minder Sealed, which another I thought
- 1:30:11the set the new set was was uh. It was fun to play.
- 1:30:14I thought we had it. It was super cool. But like the another
- 1:30:18failed marketing opportunity, like again, was keeping secret secret hush hush. But
- 1:30:25then like comedy more people, I don't know I to quantify, but if
- 1:30:30I mean it wasn't really secret. How to fix it for next week?
- 1:30:33I know? But again, we we could have we could have been the
- 1:30:36first to play Grimm Reminders at key Ford ce YadA, YadA, so on
- 1:30:40and so forth, like that was a missed marketing opportunity. I think I
- 1:30:43think we all sort of knew, right, we all sort of knew.
- 1:30:45But I mean again, like she says, there's still people that don't know
- 1:30:48about a lot of things that are just like common knowledge to others. There
- 1:30:53are definitely people who did not know. Because you saw post what they gave
- 1:30:57away Grimm reminders. You see those posts on the social media, is like
- 1:31:00people did not no. Now that might be because it does not matter and
- 1:31:03they'll never read Gigi news. They ran grim Reminders, which started an hour
- 1:31:10late. WOOKI really wanted to leave, nobody else wanted to go. So
- 1:31:15I'm like, I guess we're playing key Forge. I know we're picking I'm
- 1:31:20trying to pick it up because I got to go to work tomorrow. Be
- 1:31:24too. It was supposed to be a four round Swiss event. Wookie and
- 1:31:29I actually bailed after two rounds because there was prizes if you went on defeated,
- 1:31:33so we both had a loss. Wookie didn't eat dinner. I was
- 1:31:39done. I did not want to play, like I forced myself to play
- 1:31:43that key forge because I was kind of like, well, this is the
- 1:31:45new set. There's all these people I would like to, you know,
- 1:31:48like this should be. It was not fun, nothing to do with my
- 1:31:54opponents. This was all my state of being at this point. And I
- 1:31:57sat Sheep down and I was like, look at this. He just it
- 1:32:00was done, So I forget at that time. It was just time to
- 1:32:03go. Let's start the dras core experience. Maybe get some fliquor in him
- 1:32:08and he'll be just fine. Yeah, So we dropped after round two.
- 1:32:12Drazz used stayed to play. We went and ate some quick right yea.
- 1:32:16That was having fun and I was undefeated at that point, so I was
- 1:32:19I was rolling. So then we ate some very mediocre, highly priced Oh
- 1:32:25god, yeah it was bad. So then really like I'm eliminated. I'm
- 1:32:30really actually probably just straight like depressed. At this point, Drazz is finally
- 1:32:36done, I think, and it is again totally my fault, my situation,
- 1:32:41but I think I forced to some actpt me trying to make the draz
- 1:32:45Core experience a thing that was going to make my day better. But I
- 1:32:48was beyond saving at that point, like there was nothing that was going to
- 1:32:56I should have gone back to bed and saved everybody else from dealing with misery.
- 1:33:00No, so I am sorry for I was still in a downer on
- 1:33:05the dazz experience. It was all right, there was you know, the
- 1:33:09we did start late. It was super weird. It was a Saturday night
- 1:33:13downtown Minneapolis. You would would have thought these places that said they were open
- 1:33:19late would have been open weight. But like, we get to the first
- 1:33:23place, it's a little late, but like the place is supposed to be
- 1:33:26open for another like fifty minutes. We get there, they're like, oh,
- 1:33:29we're closed. We're like what so, So then I go back into
- 1:33:32my phone. I'm like, okay, well, what's the next option.
- 1:33:35And then I see the next one. Oh, even on their website they
- 1:33:39say they're closed. Crap, And the next one but they are also closed,
- 1:33:43what the heck? And so that I found one that was open.
- 1:33:46So we we go there and we have a good time check. So tired
- 1:33:51and halfway there, I turned around to park and they're like, what are
- 1:33:55you doing now? Like, yeah, herds are out of the middle of
- 1:33:58the road. I was like wait, like it's wait, wait, wait,
- 1:34:01time about what It just turns the car around in the middle of the
- 1:34:05road. Happened just past the Gentleman Club. So maybe I just decided I
- 1:34:12wanted to go baby. I don't know, yes, maybe Borge family.
- 1:34:17But because I had made Day two the top four, I wanted to go
- 1:34:23to sleep, and so when they started to play Grim Reminders, I asked
- 1:34:27sheeps like, oh, I'm going to finish right away, and his game
- 1:34:30went to time. But my lovely friend Sydney, who had just opened a
- 1:34:35beer and literally had a first step like, Sidney, can you at least
- 1:34:39take me home? We were only a couple of minutes away, so it
- 1:34:41was four minutes. So I drove, I got out, and she drove
- 1:34:45back. Good to hear Sheep that you're turning around in the middle of the
- 1:34:48street. The street was going on. It was just like, was there
- 1:35:00a canter cone? You turn in an intersection, that's where other cars are
- 1:35:04going to be. You do it in the open road where there is nobody
- 1:35:09where it's safe. I tried. However, we did go past the Gentleman
- 1:35:13Club Life four times, so I think he was in. Yeah. I
- 1:35:16love the logo, the size, what was what was the what was the
- 1:35:23logo was? What was the phrase they had on girls and three ugly ones?
- 1:35:28Yes, that's right, it's like, well I want to see the
- 1:35:30three ugly ones like so so like we forced that. So then we're getting
- 1:35:36back after one still can't sleep because I'm super unhappy, and then we got
- 1:35:43to get up early with you walk because we're going into day three. So
- 1:35:46uh yeah. The ultimately like, yeah, we're gonna save or fix it,
- 1:35:51Like I have plenty of theories on how you fix the grim Reminder sealed
- 1:35:57to make it better. Then how it did play out, We'll go on
- 1:36:01too that next week. Maybe because there was a lot of people dropping it
- 1:36:04was it was essentially a one l O tournament, which is just lame to
- 1:36:11some extent, So we all all of us bailed. A lot of people
- 1:36:15did stay in play, but even the Ghost Galaxy people were so tired they
- 1:36:19quit it. They said, we're only doing three rounds, we're giving out
- 1:36:21more prizes, we want to go to bed, so they cut the four
- 1:36:25round event to three round events, still ending like eleven thirty or midnight like
- 1:36:29it, which was the right move. It was a brutally long day.
- 1:36:35Yeah, and then I will just say so my experience was very different than
- 1:36:42sheeps. Now I didn't. I mean, I did lose, but I
- 1:36:44you're and our experience is very different. We were there to prove nothing,
- 1:36:48We were there to gain nothing. Like after the LCQ, it was pretty
- 1:36:53much over ish. I mean, we had the option in the last you
- 1:36:57know or not Last Chance opens. It didn't really happen for either of us.
- 1:37:02But like there was nothing, like there was no shady business that really
- 1:37:06hindered us at all, right, like Donovan, just like I said,
- 1:37:13mine was a cruel mistress scenario. I didn't misplay. There was literally nothing
- 1:37:17I could have done to impact it besides like taking their deck and like throwing
- 1:37:21it across the room, which I'm pretty sure I would have been dqued for.
- 1:37:25So there was already talks about quing me before I even signed up.
- 1:37:30So I decided that was a bad idea. At least the games I played,
- 1:37:33both in the open and in the after dark whatever right now. I
- 1:37:41didn't get there in time for the LCQ, right, but like everybody was
- 1:37:45very positive, like people are having a good time, like I did not.
- 1:37:48I did not have to play Sheep the whole weekend, so my baby
- 1:37:54was good. Well after a day and a half. That was better than
- 1:37:57having to play me. Let's get into day three, since we still I
- 1:38:02mean we are an hour and thirty seven minutes in, we still have well
- 1:38:08this is the technical final day. Oh yeah, Sunday. This is Sunday
- 1:38:14finally. Ewok, you're in, so you're really the only one that has
- 1:38:19anything to happen about day three. So tell us about day three? Yeah,
- 1:38:24real quick. So top four game. They were best of one.
- 1:38:27I ended up going ahead and playing Dorian. Short answer. Dorian played very
- 1:38:32clean, played a great game. I did have to mulligan. As I
- 1:38:39Mulligan's I drew into my Amber control, which was capture, and so I
- 1:38:44immediately put Amber on the board and that was pretty much where the game went
- 1:38:50ahead and went Dorian, I did not get I finally hit two of the
- 1:38:56B fuddles on the last turn of the second last turn, the game was
- 1:39:00over. The third B funnel didn't show up. Dorian had a really nice
- 1:39:04double gateway and was the double gateway double life board, yes, double library
- 1:39:13access for Nexus. No not for four nerve blasts, but two ghostly hands,
- 1:39:20which it damn perfect for me an urchin or two. Yeah, it's
- 1:39:26just cool code of stuff. Yeah, I mean, and it was first
- 1:39:29print run coda that was definitely able to be seen. Ten creatures in the
- 1:39:32whole deck. Yeah, I will tell you the lock for creatures with my
- 1:39:38woe was what was there, and it was close. It came down to
- 1:39:42two amber. I just did not have a way to be able to go
- 1:39:45ahead. My catching release came way too late. The logos board was established
- 1:39:50and stuck around for a couple turns, and that is the weakness. So
- 1:39:56logos board beat up on me. It was a difference in the game.
- 1:39:58He played clean, he deserves the win, and he you know, he
- 1:40:00took the next one with another two wins. So then I went to the
- 1:40:04third fourth place match and I went to face Ashitaka again and this matchup once
- 1:40:11again is not in my favor, but I was able to play clean and
- 1:40:15win out and so I took that third place victory again. Great games on
- 1:40:21that final day just fell a little bit short, which was sad. But
- 1:40:27the deck that I was playing Melon Dragon five dollars, poor poor individual.
- 1:40:33No, but there is nothing wrong again. Guy was good when I had
- 1:40:39him put in the right places. It played clean into the best of my
- 1:40:42ability. But that's why we love KeyForge. I mean, we get a
- 1:40:45chance to be able to play, but it's a card game and it's not
- 1:40:47always going to come out perfect for each of us. I actually think if
- 1:40:50they had stuck with the Meteor system, which I am not in all support
- 1:40:55of, I actually think Dorian would have been the eliminated one because Ashataka only
- 1:41:00lost to you. Yeah, I only lost to Paul, which were the
- 1:41:05two four to Roh's, and Dorian had lost to all a fast Berserker deck
- 1:41:11I believe, I don't know exactly, but I don't believe he'd lost to
- 1:41:15either of those two decks. So he lost to somebody who had been eliminated.
- 1:41:18So I think by strength of schedule he would have been in third and
- 1:41:23would have got the media instead of having the chance to go on and win
- 1:41:26the event. So I'm not I am not supporting the Meteor I just just
- 1:41:33funny how it could have worked out so differently depending on just basically they're one
- 1:41:41round where they're like the one round where arbitrary decisions about who goes on is
- 1:41:47made. I will say, I think it was really neat to see a
- 1:41:50seventeen year old from Italy go ahead and take this down. Someone who's not
- 1:41:55even yeah had to get paperwork signed by parents in order to collect the money.
- 1:42:00I honestly, he played really clean. He's a good kid, so
- 1:42:05it was great to be able to face him and to be able to have
- 1:42:09that match. I think it's rigged. Yeah, we rigged. Okay,
- 1:42:14so what else? Like the main events ended at noon and then we've only
- 1:42:18played Menager until noon, and so this was another place where my defeated status
- 1:42:24got worse. Like I was fourteen or fifteen, I don't know where I
- 1:42:30was. I had I I think I played one MENAGERI game before I found
- 1:42:35or I played Z. He beat me, and I'm like, well,
- 1:42:39see how many wins are you even at? And at this point on Sunday
- 1:42:42morning, at like nearing ten or something, he's already at twenty four or
- 1:42:46five wins, and I'm my count said, I only had like fourteen.
- 1:42:50I didn't keep perfect counting I'm like, so I can't because I played all
- 1:42:55day yesterday and got nothing. I now can't even compete Menagerie. And I
- 1:43:01still feel like they gave fourth place because because I gave him such dirty looks,
- 1:43:06they thought that might me. So that's a strategy. So the dirty
- 1:43:13dirty looks. See, I need to you need to bring Sheep in to
- 1:43:18your class because he is a really good dirty look giver. Let me tell
- 1:43:21you, like, if that kid gets out of line, just have Sheep
- 1:43:25stare at him for a little bit, right, I will say, shout
- 1:43:30out to all of our streamers. It was really cool to be able to
- 1:43:32see Arkon and Alliance streams separately. So basically after the top four match,
- 1:43:40we then pulled in the Alliance games and then we went ahead and did the
- 1:43:45Arkon after all. This one of my biggest frustrations with the streams. They
- 1:43:51both did great jobs. However, I hate when they do two streams.
- 1:43:58It drives me nuts because watching two streams and you're talking about somebody who watched
- 1:44:03a lot of streams this year not being able to attend. It is much
- 1:44:08better when you have all the streams going on on one channel, as opposed
- 1:44:14to splitting our kind of alliance between two channels, because you watch a lot
- 1:44:18of dead air when you have two different streams going on at two different times,
- 1:44:24as opposed to kind of bouncing between the two in a in a one
- 1:44:29channel stream. Because you also have to remember, sheep, I have to
- 1:44:33watch an ad every time I switch streams. Sure, well, what we
- 1:44:40all again and our how to fix it? Part of this like the fact
- 1:44:43that they didn't have a FFG like even mirror of those stream FFG ha gg
- 1:44:54mirror of one of those streams going on at some point, like if you
- 1:44:59and it wasn't on the top of their website, it was how'd you even
- 1:45:03find the streams? You had to actively like either be in a discord or
- 1:45:09like Google search and stuff up or something like Billy, it's just silly.
- 1:45:14How would you find this stream if you didn't know it existed? Yeah,
- 1:45:19if you weren't very keyed into key forward, or even if you just went
- 1:45:24I in world going on this weekend, it was not necessarily easy to find
- 1:45:28those streams unless you were already a follower of those people. Kind of Yeah,
- 1:45:35this we've talked about before. We need to get more communication out to
- 1:45:42the broader community. And then but shout out to Tabletop Royal who put in
- 1:45:45a lot of time in streams and it's all Sydney was there and funcinated to
- 1:45:54like honestly, I do appreciate that and to be able to murph ran the
- 1:45:59Arcanu stream. Thank you for that awesome I did. The only thing I
- 1:46:03got was a coworker tried to watch it who doesn't play key Forge and said
- 1:46:10the problem was is he could not read the cards on screen, so he
- 1:46:15only had the person the person doing the commentary to go by because he couldn't
- 1:46:19follow the cards at all because the definition wasn't good enough to read them.
- 1:46:26You will never be able to solve that issue. Well, if you need
- 1:46:30a way higher deficit, even if you had a higher definition camera, because
- 1:46:38of the bandwidth, you will well, no, you will never be even
- 1:46:42if I go full four K. Just with how wide everything goes. Key
- 1:46:47Ford has become a very wide game. You cannot tighten in close enough eight
- 1:46:53k's of thing, buddy, Yeah, even if you go eight kids.
- 1:46:57I don't know, but that was the only thing that he couldn't follow it.
- 1:47:00I don't watch streams of other games, so I know absolutely nothing.
- 1:47:05I was gonna say, watch streams of other games. It's it's it's a
- 1:47:09similar thing. You can tighten up a little bit to see enough of the
- 1:47:14enough of the image. But if you're not familiar with the card, you're
- 1:47:16you're kind of in the same boat. And then, uh so the the
- 1:47:23really the highlight of this weekend now that we're into the last day is Ben
- 1:47:29the Monkey. Uh yeah, so congrats to Ben who did ride with us.
- 1:47:33Our car did pretty damn well. We had third place in ARCon,
- 1:47:38first place in Open kind Open ar Kind Open, and a top eight finisher
- 1:47:44in the l c Q in first place in complaining, first first place of
- 1:47:50planning, and officially officially first loser in ARCon. Thank you. I am
- 1:47:58almost good enough first loser in ARCon. So yeah, that's fine. But
- 1:48:03they during the speech that on Saturday night, which we kind of skipped,
- 1:48:10is they the posters We've all seen them preview for our new custom decks.
- 1:48:15They printed a poster for each of the top four decks. Yeah, and
- 1:48:20then again poorly kept secret. We figured it out based off of win those
- 1:48:25showed up versus when top four happened that they must have printed more. It
- 1:48:30turns out they had printed one of the new deck posters for every deck in
- 1:48:34the top thirty two, So everybody who got to park on in the world
- 1:48:40yep and both formats did get to take a poster home of the deck that
- 1:48:44was. I gotta say that was a huge band aid on the giant scab
- 1:48:49that I got at this event. But but it wasn't enough ultimately, Like
- 1:48:59that is very cool. I'm very happy to have my fraud poster. Sorry
- 1:49:03Loka car your posters wrong. Yeah, he he has a he played an
- 1:49:09identical twin deck and his deck doesn't say twin on it, and he's very
- 1:49:12sad. I will say. I will say I was a little sad.
- 1:49:15So I actually made special dragon shields sleeves and I came home Monday and they
- 1:49:24finally arrived, so I was off by weekend. But that's not the only
- 1:49:28thing we brought that didn't But that's on me. In two Worlds, that's
- 1:49:32the only thing that didn't make it to Worlds. Why what was that?
- 1:49:39I was there? We were good. Yeah, we're good, all right.
- 1:49:43So I might still have the Shredder metal it might be too you didn't
- 1:49:47even run Shredder, So what does it matter. Well, we didn't have
- 1:49:50a shredder to run Shredder, we didn't have a Shredder medal. You weren't
- 1:49:55getting anything out of me on Sunday. I might still if you want to
- 1:49:59hear there it is. It's pretty sweet. Maybe I'll just be sureter World
- 1:50:04Champion. We'll probably run something soon. I don't win, but we did
- 1:50:13go after that, we did have the awards ceremony, which was just giving
- 1:50:18out the awards. You guys can watch that over on our YouTube channel over
- 1:50:21on streams. I did get to stream it for you, and then we
- 1:50:25had the Q and A to meet the ghosties as they were calling it.
- 1:50:30Did you only release our talk about that on Patreon? No? No,
- 1:50:33I released it fully out so you can listen to that. If you haven't
- 1:50:36released If you haven't listened to that, just go one episode back. We're
- 1:50:41on the street. It was tough to hear, so I grabbed Sydney and
- 1:50:45I grabbed Dan, and it's about one quarter of Dan because me and Sydney
- 1:50:54got it. We got it covered. So we went through all the questions
- 1:50:58that were asked. Somewhere I'm more more important than others. You know that
- 1:51:03question about what pods didn't make it? Nobody cares. That was the best
- 1:51:09question that was now let's talk about that one. So uh so I asked
- 1:51:14the fun question. No, I mean, we always complaints that, like,
- 1:51:16you know, hey, we can't they can't answer real questions. So
- 1:51:20I asked a fun question. He still complaints, you know. So I
- 1:51:25asked, hey, what was the most interesting pod that didn't make it in
- 1:51:30packet or pack packet whatever they're called. Uh and uh so so Luke said,
- 1:51:36uh, the rice guy that just said, hey, it was a
- 1:51:39dragoggle, like he had some ideas for crazy drigoggle things, but then he
- 1:51:43thought twice about all the wacky rulings and how much the judges would hate him.
- 1:51:49So they judged, they pulled back. Then nobody was judging Menagerie now.
- 1:51:55But like even if you're trying to play it and you're like, well,
- 1:51:57wait what happens here and you're we don't know? I mean I only
- 1:52:01ever had to call a judge once, and that was because I had heard
- 1:52:05sheep saying something about a ruling with exhuming large creatures. So I wanted to
- 1:52:12make sure I got it right. Why are we blaming on me? Well,
- 1:52:17okay, because you had said it did work. And then with the
- 1:52:19new rules update, there was a question on hold, can you let me
- 1:52:25finish what I'm about to say before you tell me I'm wrong? Children to
- 1:52:29your own rooms, thank you. So sheep in the car didn't say something
- 1:52:32that there was a change, and there was a question about like exhuming gigantic
- 1:52:38creatures. So when it came down to it, actually this actually happened because
- 1:52:43I had an opportunity to be our guys to disill us. Both halves are
- 1:52:46in the discard pile, right, So I was like, I heard this
- 1:52:51was switched. Yatta, yatta. I'm not one hundred percent sure because it
- 1:52:56was all rumor and conjecture. So I grabbed both Early and Luke. It
- 1:53:00was all misunderstanding. You mean it was because I grabbed both. I grabbed
- 1:53:04Josh Hurley and Luke. I think we even had a Marcus. I mean,
- 1:53:08I don't remember, because I was like, with the new rules change,
- 1:53:12I heard something had changed. I just want to make sure we play
- 1:53:14it correctly. And I was told it was okay. That on Tuesday,
- 1:53:18I was told it was not okay. So I was like, okay,
- 1:53:20So the rules still. So what you're telling me is the rule did not
- 1:53:25change and it stayed the same. Okay, good to know. That's all
- 1:53:30I wanted to Yeah, so it I you were saying something in the car
- 1:53:35that you heard this be your guys was gonna let you play gigantic, so
- 1:53:40the thing, and I said, nothing of the If that's the case,
- 1:53:44eg zoom is going to have to change, is what I said. Not
- 1:53:47eg Zoom has changed. I said eg zoom will have to change if that's
- 1:53:50how works, because that's not how it had been working. But like many
- 1:53:57rules in key Forge, will be evaluating over the next four to six weeks,
- 1:54:02they're open to interpretation. You have to read three FAQs for cards that
- 1:54:08have nothing to do with the card you're reading too, say this is similar,
- 1:54:13so I'm going to use this rule as time. But when you say
- 1:54:15it's similar to this, but we're not using it, you're told you're dumb
- 1:54:17for suggesting that you're not actually told you're dumb. Nobody's ever actually said you're
- 1:54:23dumb. That's not true. You tell me I'm dumb all the time.
- 1:54:25Yes, okay, I have said you are dumb. Yes, okay,
- 1:54:30okay, yeah, ok yes, I am a jerk. I got it,
- 1:54:33say you're all dumb. There you go, thank you, But you
- 1:54:39could listen to the episode on on the Q and A section. We did
- 1:54:44just just one episode before this, so if you really want to go into
- 1:54:49it, I don't think any great revelations were put out there. No nobody
- 1:54:57asked them about that. I said, nobody asked about seal and when we're
- 1:55:00gonna get Yeah, you didn't cover it in the rehash that I can recall,
- 1:55:11but I'm pretty they already covered that. I think Shield was asked about
- 1:55:15and they said they're going to be. They're going to be again evaluating over
- 1:55:21sixty eight weeks, four to six weeks, six eight weeks, whatever it
- 1:55:26was, to see what was going on. So yeah, So coming out
- 1:55:29of this event, I'm in the ultimately not satisfied with how world's played out
- 1:55:38for me personally, nor how the format has developed. We got absolutely no
- 1:55:45news about when will have actual o P to us outside of they'll be able
- 1:55:54to sign up next month and stuff might happen, but there's there there's nothing.
- 1:56:00There's no actual fix. There's no like, here's the kids, here's
- 1:56:02what we're doing. Well, hold on, maybe maybe we get a storyline
- 1:56:06which is want mixed. Sure, uh so they well know we're supposed to
- 1:56:12talk about the thing, but we got a photocopy of twenty twenty two.
- 1:56:15There wasn't even a single word about the one thing I actually did get to
- 1:56:19do, which is fault to her. It's not not even that like they
- 1:56:21said, delete that slide. We'll see if they notice. There's nothing so
- 1:56:28leaving the end of Worlds, I have absolutely nothing to do to look forward
- 1:56:34to. I have no I mean, like, the only reason I'm playing
- 1:56:39is the same reason that made us through the pandemic of garbage, is that
- 1:56:44the people I play with are awesome and that that will carry me pretty far
- 1:56:50in this game. But that's the starting ship. I saved your room in
- 1:57:00my boat. Yeah here, I'm about to get in the Wookie boat.
- 1:57:03It's terrible. I'm I'm not happy I kept it for you. I just
- 1:57:10like GG has insistently improved. I am hopeful that they not go ahead and
- 1:57:18give us specifics because we hammered them last year. And we'll hear about it
- 1:57:23soon. That is my home. We got in that car and we went
- 1:57:27what are we doing next week? And everybody's like who gives a ship.
- 1:57:30There's nothing, there's well no, I think everybody that's not true. Essentially,
- 1:57:36we're just like we're playing for nothing. We don't have the store doesn't
- 1:57:44have product, we don't have prizes, we have nothing to get new players.
- 1:57:47We're not practicing or looking forward to the next event. We've got nothing
- 1:57:55to do right now. We've got a game found. So I just gave
- 1:57:58him more money for dak that like usual, I don't know what I'm doing
- 1:58:02with them. Please forgive my sheep. He does love the community and he
- 1:58:08loves this game. You may not know it from this talk, but he
- 1:58:11is there and he loves We all do. But I am with Sheep.
- 1:58:15There are there are drastic changes that need to happen. Things do need to
- 1:58:21change, and they are quite big, and I think, for fear of
- 1:58:27upsetting some of the community members, none of those changes are going to be
- 1:58:30made. Sheep thinks some of my ideas are dumb. I don't believe they
- 1:58:34are. But that's a difference of opinion, and that's that's all right.
- 1:58:38You think my ideas are dumb, we get to think that, and that's
- 1:58:41fine, right, Like it's a difference of opinion. I think it's difference
- 1:58:45of opinion. I think they're just both dumb. Well maybe and again a
- 1:58:48difference of opinions. It's just we're both a lot bigger than you. Well,
- 1:58:55we'll split you like a like a wishbone, but I mean threatening my
- 1:59:00Southerly leave him alone, but we'll like there their ideas that I think weren't
- 1:59:12talks, and whether they happen or not, who knows. Hopefully Q one,
- 1:59:17after the holidays are all said and done, we can move forward.
- 1:59:20We have things to play for again. Hopefully by that time we have some
- 1:59:25sort of schedule we can look forward to again. And it's just it's gonna
- 1:59:30be a wait and see and it sucks because, yes, mini hiatus.
- 1:59:34Last year we left KFC with all sorts of excitement. You can literally go
- 1:59:41back three hundred and sixty five days ago listen to that episode and you would
- 1:59:44hear a very excited cast. This year is a little different. This year.
- 1:59:49This year we learned to keep our expectations a fair bit lower. YEP,
- 1:59:59and it is what it at this point. Now. Hopefully it comes
- 2:00:00out sooner rather than later, because I think every day that goes by that
- 2:00:04we don't have information that we don't know what's going on, that we're all
- 2:00:09sitting here confused. The people such as Sheep and myself go why do I
- 2:00:14still play this? And eventually those bonds that we have with people, and
- 2:00:18obviously me and Sheep run a podcast or bonds are a little different. But
- 2:00:23for those people who are just playing for funzies, YadA, YadA, so
- 2:00:26on and so forth might not be here. You already had a downgrade in
- 2:00:30a year where you had a set drop to me ewalk, you can paint
- 2:00:38it with whatever brightly colored brush you want. That's not good. You had
- 2:00:44a set drop this year and you had less You had the opportunity for more
- 2:00:47people show up to show up because there was not flight restrictions. There was
- 2:00:53not anything really of any you know, twenty twenty two we were still kind
- 2:00:58of in pandemic protocols. Ish, Wow, there are no I said,
- 2:01:02there was no. There was between last year and this how many overseas people
- 2:01:06do we have? Last year? Three four four? This year we had
- 2:01:12a bunch of people travel from overseas and there was significantly less US players there.
- 2:01:18You saw people that are content creators that did not come. Well,
- 2:01:26there is that but also which you are not taking into account well as many
- 2:01:30of them are closer to your boat, which is they cannot neither afford nor
- 2:01:35have the days off. We did see most of those people because we a
- 2:01:42lot of people, and maybe they released the numbers at some point, unique
- 2:01:46individuals across Vault tours actually unique number of players because we did see a lot
- 2:01:53of those people earlier and they're like, yeah, I spent my key Forde
- 2:01:59discretionary travel funds on this because they're only able to do one. Most people,
- 2:02:03it turns out most people aren't able to go to four or five six
- 2:02:08major events in a year. So I don't actually know how much worse the
- 2:02:13numbers are because if all, if most of the players that were there just
- 2:02:15chose to go to their local Vault tour instead of splurging even more money to
- 2:02:21go to this kind of makes sense, especially when was this more expensive than
- 2:02:26a local vault tour depending on Yeah, definitely if you live locally, that's
- 2:02:31way cheaper than going together. Yeah, if you live locally. But I
- 2:02:34don't think a ton of people were local. I mean there was, I
- 2:02:38mean Roseville's the most of Seattle. Well, no, nothing of us.
- 2:02:43This is our local. Now, most of Seattle was, I mean,
- 2:02:46most of the people at Seattle were locals. There was not a ton of
- 2:02:50fly ins. Actually for that Texas was full of locals. Philly was full
- 2:02:56of locals. Actually the Philly guys were some of the bigger travelers for the
- 2:03:00year. Yeah, man, we came out so uh yeah, it's it's
- 2:03:06hard to say the numbers it is. It is down. It is down
- 2:03:11significantly, especially when you consider one third of the room was internationals that were
- 2:03:17not there last year. But the spread across the thing. Saying too much
- 2:03:23out of that is is the thing, especially when as we know talking to
- 2:03:28people, half the people didn't even understand what the open was. And the
- 2:03:32open wasn't Vault Tour caliber. So like if if you knew you weren't playing
- 2:03:38in Worlds and you could choose to go to a Vault or go play in
- 2:03:42the open, like the Vault's the better choice. So I can understand why
- 2:03:49people who were not competing in Worlds kind of chose to skip this, especially
- 2:03:55when there wasn't you know, like this wasn't announced when people were playing Vault
- 2:04:00was either really like we knew what weekend it was, but nobody knew what
- 2:04:03was going on, so like if you had to pick, you had to
- 2:04:05pick the Vote Tour because you didn't know what this was. You didn't know
- 2:04:10for certain Grim Reminders was going to be here. Although anybody who doesn't expect
- 2:04:15whatever comes after Amber Skies will be at KFC next year, right, like
- 2:04:19you have to expect it. Now. Did we have two events last year?
- 2:04:25We had a we had sealed and then standard, Right, there was
- 2:04:30this event and then that you could either play an ARCon or Alliance. Yeah,
- 2:04:33and actually there was a sealed of both formats too, right. The
- 2:04:44I had fun at the event. I was glad to more than happy to
- 2:04:46have gone, even though I can only get there late and missed the LCQ.
- 2:04:51Had a lot of fun and I was able to hang out with you
- 2:04:57guys and the place we good keyboards. I think I actually would have had
- 2:05:00more fun had I done worse in in the world got knocked out more quickly.
- 2:05:09If I'd just been knocked out early, I'd just been like, well
- 2:05:12it didn't last year was like like we did talk about this like a more
- 2:05:18out of time really, but but Nova went oh too, which is a
- 2:05:21huge surprise. I mean a lot of people picked Nova Faith as well,
- 2:05:27and like that is the fact that you expected to stack up some wins because
- 2:05:30it is so dominant against certain things. Over two hundred people last year for
- 2:05:36KFC, Yeah, we know we were there. I understand, I just
- 2:05:42wanted to didn't. It doesn't give a precise number. It just says over
- 2:05:45two hundred people. And then this year, well this so it says nearly
- 2:05:50two hundred people. Okay, well we know it was done. Either way,
- 2:06:00it is right one of them, yes, right, But that's gonna
- 2:06:04do it first this week again, if you wanted to hear the Q and
- 2:06:09A questions, you can go just one episode back. Next week is Thanksgiving,
- 2:06:15believe that or not. Already it's here, so I'm assuming we will
- 2:06:21figure something out for either a Wednesday episode or a Friday episode. I'm not
- 2:06:28sure as to which, because I totally forgot next week was Thanksgiving because it's
- 2:06:32here already and I wasn't prepared. And we'll kind of go more into where
- 2:06:40where we'll go into more of where we we look towards the future. At
