Speaker 3: The Lovely, the Talented, You lover. Millie Snyder is here.
• 2:19
Speaker 3: How you doing with Millie?
• 2:20
  Speaker 2: God?
• 2:21
Speaker 5: I love that introduction?
• 2:22
  Speaker 6: Thank you?
• 2:22
Speaker 5: Would you repeat that?
• 2:24
Speaker 3: Very nice? The Lovely the Talented you love her? It's
• 2:26
Speaker 3: Millie Snyder, Thank you, Dave.
• 2:28
Speaker 5: I'm happy to be here.
• 2:29
Speaker 3: It's National Radio Day.
• 2:31
Speaker 5: And congratulations to every one of us who love the
• 2:34
Speaker 5: radio and the people who love you.
• 2:36
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 2:36
Speaker 3: Oh there's a few, one or two. Okay. So I've
• 2:41
Speaker 3: been doing this for thirty seven years now, my goodness,
• 2:44
Speaker 3: thirty seven years. Five years with this company, but thirty
• 2:46
  Speaker 3: seven years total.
• 2:47
  Speaker 2: Wow.
• 2:48
Speaker 3: What was your inspiration time to get a real job?
• 2:50
  Speaker 2: Huh?
• 2:52
Speaker 5: Oh you've had those.
• 2:52
Speaker 3: They're not fun, No, no one. I had to wear
• 2:55
Speaker 3: a suit and tie. Oh good, that sucked now, I
• 2:58
Speaker 3: know the job didn't suck in the student tie sucks.
• 3:00
Speaker 3: I actually enjoyed the job very much. I don't know.
• 3:04
Speaker 3: I mean a couple of things. I grew up in
• 3:07
Speaker 3: a house where the radio was always on on their
• 3:09
Speaker 3: local station. We actually at that time, even though it
• 3:12
Speaker 3: was a small town my hometown, we had two radio
• 3:15
Speaker 3: stations and they were big competitors, but we kind of
• 3:19
Speaker 3: would listen to both of them. That and WKRP in Cincinnati,
• 3:23
Speaker 3: the CBS television show from the late nineteen seventies and
• 3:25
Speaker 3: early eighties. When I first I was probably in third
• 3:28
Speaker 3: grade when that show came out, And when I saw
• 3:30
Speaker 3: doctor Johnny Fever and being his fly trap and Herb
• 3:33
Speaker 3: Tarleak and all the characters on that show, I said,
• 3:35
Speaker 3: that's the coolest job in the world right there. And
• 3:37
Speaker 3: I have worked with people that were just like every
• 3:40
Speaker 3: one of those, matter of fact, of work in this
• 3:43
Speaker 3: building with some that are just like Ron Hughes would
• 3:45
Speaker 3: be Herb Tarlack, you know, the the Weasley salesman, Benus.
• 3:49
Speaker 3: Fly Trap's got to be Woody. So Johnny Fever is
• 3:55
Speaker 3: a probably Steve Animal, probably Steve Animal. So anyway, that
• 3:59
  Speaker 3: was my inspiration.
• 4:00
  Speaker 5: So it's a good one though, because there's a lot
• 4:03
Speaker 5: of things that may do you think, Hey, I think.
• 4:05
Speaker 8: I can do that.
• 4:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, I enjoy it all right, So let's move with
• 4:08
  Speaker 3: you everything.
• 4:10
Speaker 5: First of all, let me tell you that our Mediterranean
• 4:12
Speaker 5: Mindset Group now has a new location. We have left
• 4:16
Speaker 5: the Goodwill Building. We are now meeting at the Trinity
• 4:19
Speaker 5: Lutheran Evangelical Church. And where is that and that is
• 4:25
Speaker 5: sixteen hundred Canall Boulevard, Elizabeth Street, very very good landmarks,
• 4:31
Speaker 5: across the street from the Ben A. Jacob Synagogue, half
• 4:35
Speaker 5: a block from the Woman's Club, and there is plenty
• 4:38
Speaker 5: of free parking and that's a really big plus. And
• 4:44
Speaker 5: also the good news is not only do we now
• 4:46
Speaker 5: have a morning meeting, we now have an evening meeting
• 4:50
Speaker 5: and that is at five point thirty. The morning is
• 4:52
Speaker 5: at ten am. But in addition to that, Monday night
• 4:56
Speaker 5: was a very special treat for me, and that is
• 4:59
Speaker 5: I was a guest speaker for the Parkinson's group that
• 5:03
Speaker 5: was at the Blessed sacrament in South Charleston, and they
• 5:07
Speaker 5: have a support group that meets monthly, but Monday night
• 5:12
Speaker 5: they had the largest crowd and I was very humbled
• 5:15
Speaker 5: because so many people came to hear what I had
• 5:19
Speaker 5: to say about Parkinson's. And in addition to that, the
• 5:25
Speaker 5: one way of eating that is recommended universally by people
• 5:30
Speaker 5: who suffer with this malady, and that is the Mediterranean lifestyle.
• 5:36
Speaker 5: Why because the food is clean, it doesn't have chemicals, preservatives,
• 5:43
Speaker 5: and not only is it helpful, I wish I one
• 5:47
Speaker 5: of the things I said on Monday night, I wish
• 5:50
Speaker 5: healthy eating would take Parkinson's away. But it doesn't. However,
• 5:56
Speaker 5: it doesn't make it worse either. And some of the
• 5:59
Speaker 5: eating that we do because we like it or it's
• 6:03
Speaker 5: a habit where that's the way we grew up. And
• 6:06
Speaker 5: I could go down the list of the things that
• 6:09
Speaker 5: you know, push us that food is not in our
• 6:13
Speaker 5: best interest and it aggravates, it takes a bad thing
• 6:17
Speaker 5: and makes it angry. The Mediterranean lifestyle doesn't make anything angry,
• 6:22
Speaker 5: doesn't make it worse, And this is important information we
• 6:28
Speaker 5: need to learn how to eat healthy, clean food. Now,
• 6:31
Speaker 5: a lot of people think that it's just about weight loss,
• 6:35
Speaker 5: and that is just such a small piece of the puzzle.
• 6:39
Speaker 5: Because eating healthy, you get better, you feel better, you
• 6:44
Speaker 5: can do more, and miraculously you lose weight. And that
• 6:50
Speaker 5: is something that people need to pay attention to. And
• 6:53
Speaker 5: it's available, available in terms that you got to come
• 6:57
Speaker 5: to it. And I set it up as a support
• 6:59
Speaker 5: group because I believe that when you can be with
• 7:03
Speaker 5: other people who share what's going on for them, and
• 7:07
Speaker 5: you can share what's going on for you, you get
• 7:09
Speaker 5: stronger because you realize you're not the only person with
• 7:13
  Speaker 5: this problem.
• 7:13
  Speaker 3: And I think, Melly, I think that's true of a
• 7:15
Speaker 3: lot of different things, not just eating apps. I mean,
• 7:17
Speaker 3: if you're trying to kick a habit, if it's something
• 7:21
Speaker 3: positive or negative, it's going on. A solid support group
• 7:25
Speaker 3: is always people around you to kind of hold you accountable.
• 7:28
Speaker 3: And it's not always about holding you accountable, it's also
• 7:31
Speaker 3: about networking and learning. Okay, this worked for you. Okay,
• 7:34
Speaker 3: that's an interesting idea. Never really thought about that.
• 7:36
Speaker 5: And one of the things about Trinity Lutheran they make
• 7:39
Speaker 5: their facility available to so many different groups. AA meets
• 7:44
Speaker 5: there and other support groups, and people need people. People
• 7:50
Speaker 5: need to be able to identify with feel better because
• 7:54
Speaker 5: someone else has gone through the same thing and you
• 7:58
Speaker 5: hear that they can't do it, and you have had
• 8:01
Speaker 5: a successful run, so you quite naturally want to share
• 8:05
Speaker 5: that with someone who is down in the dumps and
• 8:08
  Speaker 5: it's a give and a take. And that's why it's
• 8:11
  Speaker 5: so important.
• 8:13
Speaker 3: And when you talk about it, and you come on
• 8:14
Speaker 3: every month and talk with this again, we're talking with
• 8:16
Speaker 3: Millie Snyder. You talk about this Mediterranean. We don't like
• 8:18
Speaker 3: to call it. You don't like to use the term diet.
• 8:20
Speaker 3: You know, it's a Mediterranean lifestyle, lifestyle. And so what
• 8:26
Speaker 3: we get a lot of times is people that listen
• 8:28
Speaker 3: to this, they may be saying, Okay, well I get
• 8:31
Speaker 3: ten minutes for lunch. Okay, now they may get thirty,
• 8:34
Speaker 3: but they got other things they got to do. I
• 8:36
Speaker 3: gotta run errands in my lunch or whatever. I'm in
• 8:37
Speaker 3: an office or wherever. I don't have time for that.
• 8:40
Speaker 3: That's the biggest thing, The two biggest things I think
• 8:43
Speaker 3: to eating healthy. Our people will say I don't have
• 8:47
Speaker 3: the time, and it is in some people's minds it
• 8:49
Speaker 3: can be a little bit more expensive to eat healthy.
• 8:53
Speaker 3: To those things start with the time.
• 8:54
Speaker 5: You would say what I would simply say that you
• 8:57
Speaker 5: need to eat, and you can eat eat at your
• 9:00
Speaker 5: desk while you're working. It doesn't have to be just
• 9:03
Speaker 5: a ten minute thing. It doesn't have to be fancy.
• 9:07
Speaker 5: You can bring it from home. You don't have to.
• 9:10
Speaker 5: First of all, we don't want you to go out
• 9:11
Speaker 5: to the fast food world because that food has other
• 9:15
Speaker 5: stuff in it, and that's the stuff that causes problems. Now,
• 9:19
Speaker 5: in terms of expense, let's sit together and find a
• 9:22
Speaker 5: way for you as an individual to let it meet
• 9:26
Speaker 5: your budget, because we can do it with canned fruits,
• 9:30
Speaker 5: canned vegetables. We have fish twice a week, and there's
• 9:35
Speaker 5: nothing wrong with doing tuna fish. There's nothing wrong with
• 9:38
Speaker 5: eating sardines. In fact, sardines are healthier for you than
• 9:43
Speaker 5: even flounder or other white meat fishes.
• 9:46
Speaker 3: What what about the sodium content? Though a lot of
• 9:48
Speaker 3: people are concerned about sodium when it comes to canned foods.
• 9:51
Speaker 5: Well, it depends you have to read labels and actually
• 9:54
Speaker 5: see what you're buying and pay attention to that. But
• 9:57
Speaker 5: at home, you control the salt shaker, and there are
• 10:01
Speaker 5: other things that we can do. Plus, there are many
• 10:04
Speaker 5: many seasonings out there that are without salt, and we
• 10:07
Speaker 5: have to learn to use them. Sodium is one of
• 10:10
Speaker 5: the things that makes your ankles swell in every other
• 10:14
Speaker 5: part of your body, and it doesn't feel good. So
• 10:17
Speaker 5: let's learn how to deal with that. Don't use it
• 10:20
Speaker 5: as an excuse. Well, because sodium is in all the
• 10:24
Speaker 5: foods that you bought. Let's learn to read labels and
• 10:27
Speaker 5: make better choices for ourselves.
• 10:29
Speaker 3: And there's been so much in the news in West
• 10:32
Speaker 3: Virginia and we've gotten attention nationwide. And I'm not going
• 10:36
Speaker 3: to turn this into political, but I'm going to say
• 10:38
Speaker 3: for the food die thing in when it comes to
• 10:41
Speaker 3: public schools, there are a lot of I mean, you know, again,
• 10:45
Speaker 3: West Virginia's got national attention for something positive for once,
• 10:48
Speaker 3: you know, and it has to do you know, the
• 10:51
Speaker 3: school got back in session in Knawah County last week.
• 10:54
Speaker 3: It's a couple of other camping Putnam County where I lives. Tomorrow,
• 10:58
Speaker 3: when the kids go back to school, they're going to
• 10:59
Speaker 3: be seen some different different types of food. They may
• 11:02
Speaker 3: not even know the difference. But some of the dies
• 11:05
Speaker 3: have been have been taken out.
• 11:08
Speaker 5: Which I'm delighted for because and when and in getting
• 11:12
Speaker 5: rid of the dies, hopefully they're going to get rid
• 11:14
Speaker 5: of some of the other ingredients. But let's do it
• 11:17
Speaker 5: with small baby steps before we say, well, we need
• 11:20
Speaker 5: to also do this, that and the other. But one
• 11:22
Speaker 5: thing at a time. I'm thrilled that they're taking that
• 11:25
Speaker 5: stuff out of food. I'm thrilled because kids do not
• 11:29
Speaker 5: need to have their bodies contaminated at early ages, because
• 11:34
Speaker 5: it makes the growing up process. You continue doing what
• 11:37
Speaker 5: you've always done. You know that old expression.
• 11:39
Speaker 3: If you always do what you've always done.
• 11:41
Speaker 5: You always get what you've always gotten. And it's old. Yes,
• 11:44
Speaker 5: I say it many many times. I don't even like
• 11:47
Speaker 5: saying it because it's the truth, and that's not a
• 11:49
Speaker 5: truth that people want to hear. Our habits are formed
• 11:53
Speaker 5: early on. When my children were infants, there was a
• 11:57
Speaker 5: lady in one of my weight watcher classes and she
• 11:59
Speaker 5: said to me, you ought to put sugar into the
• 12:03
Speaker 5: baby food. They'll like it more. And sugar happens to
• 12:07
Speaker 5: be very, very deadly. I just saw a book that
• 12:11
Speaker 5: one of my members brought to the Mediterranean group, Suicide
• 12:15
Speaker 5: by Sugar. There's enough. Yeah, I know it does. It
• 12:19
Speaker 5: does cause them because sugar is not a friend. And
• 12:23
Speaker 5: on our nutrition labels it tells us by the serving
• 12:27
Speaker 5: how much sugar is in things. And yeah, we can
• 12:30
Speaker 5: have some sugar, and we can do it occasionally, but
• 12:33
Speaker 5: we also need to learn how to read labels. This
• 12:36
Speaker 5: is a comprehensive way to take care of yourself.
• 12:40
Speaker 3: What would you say to parents though that will say, well,
• 12:43
Speaker 3: my kid is a picky eater. My kid's not going
• 12:46
Speaker 3: to eat that my kid. I mean, we got a society.
• 12:50
Speaker 3: I mean, you know this is old guy talking here.
• 12:52
Speaker 3: You know, when I was growing up, there was a
• 12:55
Speaker 3: plate of food put in front of you and you
• 12:56
Speaker 3: eat it. You know, I never once thought of looking
• 12:58
Speaker 3: at my parents saying, yeah, I don't like that, Well
• 13:00
  Speaker 3: then too bad.
• 13:01
Speaker 2: You know you're not.
• 13:02
Speaker 3: Going to eat. But what would you say to a
• 13:03
Speaker 3: mom or dad or grandparents listener? And I'm going I
• 13:06
Speaker 3: got a picky eater. My kid's not going to eat
• 13:08
  Speaker 3: these things.
• 13:09
Speaker 5: I'm going to only share with you what my daughter
• 13:11
Speaker 5: shared with me when she would make dinner and one
• 13:14
Speaker 5: of her sons would sit at the kitchen table and cry. So,
• 13:17
Speaker 5: of course she didn't want him to cry, so she
• 13:19
Speaker 5: made him leave the room and he continued to cry.
• 13:23
Speaker 5: When he stopped crying, he came back and he ate
• 13:25
Speaker 5: what was on the plate. And I think somebody has
• 13:29
Speaker 5: to be strong here. Now you have picky eaters. I
• 13:33
Speaker 5: understand that. So we can also learn to accommodate that.
• 13:37
Speaker 5: But we don't have to cater. We can accommodate. And
• 13:40
Speaker 5: I make it sound very easy, but one of my
• 13:44
Speaker 5: grandsons likes to eat a certain way, and so I
• 13:48
Speaker 5: know that, and I make it for the whole family
• 13:52
Speaker 5: so that everybody's happy and it doesn't have to be
• 13:55
Speaker 5: something that stands out. But yes, a lot of us,
• 13:58
Speaker 5: as parents, we cave. We want to make the child happy.
• 14:03
Speaker 5: But what we're doing is we're giving up a valuable
• 14:07
Speaker 5: lesson of teaching how to.
• 14:08

Speaker 5: free parking and the times in the days ten in

Speaker 13: part Of, kanaw and some local government officials as.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: Well, okay what kind of a response have you had so?
• 18:15
  Speaker 14: Far?
• 18:16
Speaker 13: Disappointing, okay we do have some folks Coming. Delgate Kaylee
• 18:20
Speaker 13: young is Coming, Delgate Hollis lewis is, coming and a few.
• 18:25
Speaker 13: Others We, unfortunately so, far no member Of congress has
• 18:29
Speaker 13: indicated that they will be, there and.
• 18:31
  Speaker 3: That's been a how CAN i put? THIS i guess
• 18:35
Speaker 3: it's been a, disappointment uh in a lot of. People
• 18:37
Speaker 3: And i'm Just i'm this is not my. Opinion i'm
• 18:39
Speaker 3: basing it on the text and the phone calls THAT
• 18:41
Speaker 3: i get on this show and On Metronews midday as,
• 18:43
Speaker 3: well for people saying that our congressional delegation doesn't meet
• 18:48
Speaker 3: with the public that. Offer AND i will say, This
• 18:51
Speaker 3: patty And bob in their, defense when we have seen
• 18:54
Speaker 3: some of the things that we've seen on, television these
• 18:56
Speaker 3: things that turn into all out, RIOTS i don't blame
• 18:59
Speaker 3: them for safety, purpose but this is not that kind of, Event,
• 19:01
  Speaker 3: Bob so.
• 19:02
Speaker 8: Let me speak to that because it's an important. Point
• 19:04
Speaker 8: i'm glad you brought it. Up so we've also, seen
• 19:06
Speaker 8: as has, everybody these these town hall events that just
• 19:10
Speaker 8: degenerate into shouting, matches which this serves no. Purpose so
• 19:15
Speaker 8: we've been very careful in making, sure particularly for the
• 19:19
Speaker 8: folks that we invited to participate from a state legislature In,
• 19:25
Speaker 8: congress that this was not going to be like. That
• 19:28
Speaker 8: we were going to control to the extent that we.
• 19:30
Speaker 8: Can we're going to control the event to make it
• 19:33
Speaker 8: a civil, discourse and so we wrote a we've written
• 19:37
Speaker 8: we have written a set of protocols and kind of
• 19:40
Speaker 8: rules of, conduct And i'm going to be moderating the
• 19:43
Speaker 8: event On, sunday and part of my opening remarks will
• 19:46
Speaker 8: be to remind people about what civil discourse is and
• 19:50
Speaker 8: how important it is that we listen and ask the
• 19:53
Speaker 8: right questions in a responsible, way in a respectful, way
• 19:57
Speaker 8: and then respectfully listen to the. Response, again you may
• 20:01
Speaker 8: not agree with their, response and we hope to be
• 20:03
Speaker 8: able to give people an opportunity to rebut but it
• 20:07
Speaker 8: has to be done in a civil way so that
• 20:08
Speaker 8: everybody has the opportunity to.
• 20:10
Speaker 3: Listen and you mentioned that you had sent out invitations
• 20:14
Speaker 3: to the congressional delegation had not heard back. From you
• 20:16
Speaker 3: did mention a couple of the. LEGISLATORS i think you
• 20:18
Speaker 3: Mentioned Kaylee young And Hollis lewis will be. There have
• 20:20
Speaker 3: there been Any republicans that indicated that they're.
• 20:22
Speaker 13: Coming, no but we did hear from one delegate and
• 20:26
Speaker 13: one state senator very quickly that they were going to
• 20:28
Speaker 13: be out of. Town AN rsvp is always. Appreciated just
• 20:34
Speaker 13: let us know yes or. No but there's some way
• 20:36
Speaker 13: simply haven't heard from at.
• 20:37
Speaker 3: All, Okay so if we have A gop member listening
• 20:41
Speaker 3: to the show right, now that's a member of The
• 20:43
Speaker 3: house or minute of The, senate what would you say
• 20:46
Speaker 3: to them to further invite?
• 20:48
Speaker 13: THEM i, SAID i would, say please take advantage of this.
• 20:50
Speaker 13: Opportunity it looks like we're going to have a very
• 20:53
Speaker 13: good crowd. There there's been a lot of interest in,
• 20:57
Speaker 13: it SO i think it's a great opportunity to do
• 21:01
Speaker 13: exactly what we want to, do which is build bridges
• 21:03
Speaker 13: and have a better understanding of where each other is coming.
• 21:06
Speaker 3: From talk about that name building. Bridges we wanted.
• 21:10
Speaker 13: Something that united people rather than divided, people so that
• 21:16
Speaker 13: that that is really the sole purpose of the. Name
• 21:18
Speaker 13: plus we have a beautiful bridge here In charleston that
• 21:21
Speaker 13: we can use as as a.
• 21:21
Speaker 3: Graphics it worked worked out for everybody from the marketing

• 21:42
Speaker 3: either one of you can answer, This where did the
• 21:44
  Speaker 3: idea come?
• 21:44
Speaker 8: FROM i THINK i think we were you, know we talk,
• 21:50
Speaker 8: constantly the three or four of. Us we have a
• 21:53
Speaker 8: texting link that we use and we're constantly talking about
• 21:58
Speaker 8: the political environment and the situation as it relates To
• 22:02
Speaker 8: West virginia in. General and we also are aware again
• 22:07
Speaker 8: of this kind of lack of response from elected, officials,
• 22:13
Speaker 8: partly as you, said because of the some of the
• 22:15
Speaker 8: town hall meeting environments that we've. Seen so it really
• 22:18
Speaker 8: just was it just came out of conversations that we were.
• 22:20
Speaker 8: Having so we need to do something to allow our
• 22:25
Speaker 8: citizens to ask questions and get answers in a non threatening.
• 22:29
Speaker 8: Environment and so it just kind of started organically from. Conversations,
• 22:35
Speaker 8: bob you, said you're going to be serving as as
• 22:38
  Speaker 8: as the.
• 22:38
Speaker 3: Moderator talk about the, format talk about how you're going
• 22:41
Speaker 3: to prepare for, it what do you plan to do
• 22:43
  Speaker 3: as the.
• 22:43
Speaker 8: Moderator So i'm actually in the middle of writing all
• 22:47
Speaker 8: of that information, out so appreciate the. Questions so the first,
• 22:52
Speaker 8: thing of, course is to, interview is to introduce the
• 22:55
Speaker 8: folks that are on the stage and thank them for being.
• 22:57
Speaker 3: There we've, also because of the the the lack of.
• 23:02
Speaker 8: Response from the folks that we, invited we've also added
• 23:05
Speaker 8: a couple of speakers to speak on specific, topics so
• 23:09
Speaker 8: we'll introduce. Them i'm going to probably start with a
• 23:12
Speaker 8: kind of a general question to the to the participants
• 23:15
Speaker 8: about the future Of West virginia and how they see
• 23:18
Speaker 8: that how that how that's prioritized in their, minds and
• 23:21
Speaker 8: then we'll we'll open it up for questions from the,
• 23:24
  Speaker 8: audience and we.
• 23:25
Speaker 3: Hope to have a.
• 23:28
Speaker 8: Energetic dialogue between the folks that are sitting in the
• 23:32
Speaker 8: in the room and the folks that are on the.
• 23:33
Speaker 3: Stage that's the that's the plan. Anyway and and, LOOK
• 23:38
Speaker 3: i am sure in just the five or ten minutes
• 23:41
Speaker 3: that five minutes so that we've been talking, HERE i
• 23:44
Speaker 3: get that this is not this is not going to
• 23:47
Speaker 3: be what you see on. Television there's not the police
• 23:50
Speaker 3: will not be. Involved, okay they can be out, actually you,
• 23:53
Speaker 3: know solving real crime and not that this is this is.
• 23:56
Speaker 3: Discussion And, GUYS i am a firm. Believer And i've
• 23:58
Speaker 3: Said i've been doing this show for five. YEARS i
• 24:00
Speaker 3: have said on this show and On Metro News, midday
• 24:03
Speaker 3: all types are welcome. HERE i have everybody have the most,
• 24:05
Speaker 3: LIBERAL i have the most. Conservative if we can't talk
• 24:08
Speaker 3: to each other and not feel like we're always on the,
• 24:12
Speaker 3: defense and just be able to, say, well why do
• 24:14
Speaker 3: you what's your Experience patty that made you lean a little?
• 24:18
Speaker 3: Left or what's the Experience joe that made you go,
• 24:21
Speaker 3: right And i'm just using those as an, examples then
• 24:24
Speaker 3: we got nothing in my, opinion, Guys, yeah it's.
• 24:27
Speaker 8: It's an important. Point and the other thing THAT i
• 24:29
Speaker 8: think was worth mentioning is that anymore people can get
• 24:33
Speaker 8: the information that they want to support their beliefs without
• 24:37
Speaker 8: having it listen to the other side of the of the,
• 24:40
Speaker 8: coin so to. Speak because if they want, to if
• 24:43
Speaker 8: they want to see hard, right they can they can
• 24:46
Speaker 8: Do Bright bart Or Fox, News if they want to
• 24:48
Speaker 8: go hard, left they can DO msnbc or. Whatever and
• 24:51
Speaker 8: they don't have to they don't have to listen to
• 24:53
Speaker 8: both sides of the. Argument AND i think we're losing that.
• 24:56
Speaker 8: Now so this is a way for us to try
• 24:59
Speaker 8: to get people to come, together regardless of, party regardless
• 25:03
Speaker 8: of belief and start listening to each.
• 25:06
Speaker 3: Other and we've kind of, gotten, guys in this society
• 25:10
Speaker 3: of ours and this political, culture we've kind of gotten
• 25:13
Speaker 3: to the idea that if And i'm just using you,
• 25:17
Speaker 3: know into little evidence, here but if you see a
• 25:20
Speaker 3: far right wing member of The house Of delegates having
• 25:24
Speaker 3: a cup of coffee with a far left wing people
• 25:27
Speaker 3: lose their their dang minds over, It like why are.
• 25:30
Speaker 3: You look what happened To Bill maher When Bill maher
• 25:33
Speaker 3: went to have dinner With trump at The White. HOUSE
• 25:35
Speaker 3: i mean he got vilified for people by by by his,
• 25:39
Speaker 3: side and it happens on the other side. Too say
• 25:41
Speaker 3: you can have, conversations you, know not your mortal. Enemy
• 25:45
Speaker 3: it's somewhere we got to the, POINT i think it's social,
• 25:47
Speaker 3: media to be honest with, you that we've it's politics
• 25:51
Speaker 3: has become a blood sport now and we're out to
• 25:53
  Speaker 3: get the other.
• 25:53
Speaker 8: Side, yeah there's just so much, anger and it's it's
• 25:58
Speaker 8: unfettered sometimes and it's dangerous my.
• 26:00
  Speaker 13: Opinion there's a quote THAT i, Believe JOHN. F kennedy
• 26:04
Speaker 13: said that you look for the. Commonalities we all love our,
• 26:09
Speaker 13: children we all want the best for the, world you,
• 26:12
Speaker 13: know just things like, that and very often having been
• 26:17
Speaker 13: a lobbyist for, many many years and work with both
• 26:19
Speaker 13: parties and work with county officials of both, parties there
• 26:23
Speaker 13: there are. Commonalities and but these the divisions have been
• 26:29
Speaker 13: stoked in the past few, years and that's what we're
• 26:34
Speaker 13: trying to. Overcome you can sit and have a cup
• 26:37
Speaker 13: of coffee with someone you may profoundly disagree with, politically
• 26:43
Speaker 13: but you both love your kids and have a lot in,
• 26:47
Speaker 13: common and that's what that's what you try to find
• 26:49
  Speaker 13: is common.
• 26:50
Speaker 3: Ground, yeah and you know you you. See it is
• 26:54
Speaker 3: a great point THAT i think that you brought, Up,
• 26:55
Speaker 3: bob is if you're having a political, disagreement especially, online
• 27:00
Speaker 3: and you, know which happens way too, often by the,
• 27:03
Speaker 3: way both most of the time that you're arguing, online
• 27:05
Speaker 3: you're not arguing with real. People you're arguing with. Bots you,
• 27:07
Speaker 3: know these aren't real.
• 27:08
Speaker 8: People for the most, part you can't, tell and you
• 27:11
Speaker 8: can't tell anymore exactly.
• 27:12
Speaker 3: Exactly but BUT i think what happens sometimes is you, say,
• 27:15
Speaker 3: well well show me the, Proof, bob that you think,
• 27:17
Speaker 3: this AND i give you a quote from you mentioned
• 27:21
Speaker 3: Bright Bart Fox. NEWS i give you a, quote and
• 27:23
Speaker 3: then you would not you, personally but you'd, respond, well
• 27:26
Speaker 3: look look where that came. From and then then you
• 27:29
Speaker 3: respond with something that you saw ON msnbc OR npr,
• 27:33
Speaker 3: something and then well look where that Came and this
• 27:35
Speaker 3: is where we are, now because everybody can go out
• 27:38
Speaker 3: and they can find a source that best suits their
• 27:42
  Speaker 3: line of.
• 27:42
Speaker 8: Thinking one of the things we've developed for this event
• 27:46
Speaker 8: is a fact sheet so we've worked hard to put
• 27:49
  Speaker 8: put information.
• 27:50
Speaker 3: Together and the question would, be, Though, bob whose, Facts
• 27:53
  Speaker 3: and that's And i'd say.
• 27:54
Speaker 8: Thathtorically as much as, possible we've we've, Added we've added
• 27:58
Speaker 8: the source to the to the, doctor so people can, say,
• 28:01
Speaker 8: well this was there's some information from The Kaiser Family,
• 28:04
Speaker 8: foundation for, example so we listed that said here's the,
• 28:08
Speaker 8: source you. Know so to the extent that we, can
• 28:11
Speaker 8: we've tried to validate our, sources and we've tried to focus.
• 28:14
Speaker 3: On, fact not. Opinion we talked about elected, officials but
• 28:19
Speaker 3: let's talk about the. Public why should the, Public why
• 28:21
Speaker 3: Should JOHN, Q JOAN q public decide to come to this? Thing, Patty.
• 28:28
Speaker 13: I'll use The Bernie sanders event as an. Example there
• 28:31
Speaker 13: is clearly. INTEREST i think that people are confused right,
• 28:38
Speaker 13: now and because you, know they're spending a we seem
• 28:41
Speaker 13: to have a lot of people coming to spend a
• 28:43
Speaker 13: couple hours on what's supposed to be a Pretty sunday.
• 28:46
Speaker 13: Afternoon AND i THINK i think that is very telling
• 28:50
Speaker 13: just in and of itself that people want good. Information
• 28:55
Speaker 13: our brains are getting a little chaotic from the mixes
• 28:58
Speaker 13: of information we're, getting.
• 29:00
  Speaker 3: And it's a it's a time In america and that
• 29:05
Speaker 3: in my mid my nearly fifty five years on, Earth
• 29:09
Speaker 3: i've never seen where We're And i've had folks that
• 29:12
Speaker 3: have a little little more age on them THAT i
• 29:14
Speaker 3: do that have said the same thing That he've never
• 29:15
Speaker 3: never seen a time when we were when we were more.
• 29:18
Speaker 8: Divided i've lived in three countries AND i will say
• 29:22
Speaker 8: the same. Thing And i'm seventy, four So i've been
• 29:25
Speaker 8: on the earth a little bit longer than, you but
• 29:26
Speaker 8: i haven't seen anything like this.
• 29:28
Speaker 3: Either, Right, well the event is going to be at
• 29:31
Speaker 3: The Women's club Of, charleston sixteen Hundred Washington, STREET, Ea
• 29:35
Speaker 3: sunday two to four h and your final selling point
• 29:40
Speaker 3: for people will start with you, know those elected officials
• 29:43
Speaker 3: or just the average person to come to. This patty
• 29:45
Speaker 3: will start with, you why should people come to? This
• 29:48
Speaker 3: which final was your your final word?
• 29:49
  Speaker 5: HERE i THINK i think.
• 29:51
Speaker 13: They'll be among people who want to listen and learn
• 29:54
Speaker 13: and participate and make it make a change in the
• 29:59
Speaker 13: way things are going.
• 30:01
  Speaker 3: Now, BOB i.
• 30:02
Speaker 8: Think we have to we have to really try very
• 30:05
Speaker 8: hard to start dialogues rather than. Monologues we have to
• 30:11
