- 0:12Talking about it was down, it was in fact down on 3rd and
- 0:17Washington, though as I say that I'm like was it own it?
- 0:21No, I didn't get pictures. Yeah.
- 0:23I know you said to. I'm so excited.
- 0:25This is the food truck that serves the thing that you said
- 0:28reminded you of your favorite Taco Bell meal.
- 0:31Yeah, it was at the Baja Gordita from like, I don't know, 2005 or
- 0:37something like that. It's so great.
- 0:38What a time. You know, it was a golden age of
- 0:40fast food the, the early aughts. And this food truck, it's, it's
- 0:47just a chicken euro. That's it.
- 0:50It's just a chicken euro. It's really fucking good.
- 0:54It's at this food truck right on the corner of SW 3rd and
- 0:59Washington. Yeah, downtown.
- 1:01And it is so good. So but the whole that whole food
- 1:05truck like wrote the block of food trucks and there.
- 1:10And I'll tell you something, there were some really hot guys
- 1:13working at those food trucks that night.
- 1:15And maybe it was just me, maybe I was a little thirsty, but.
- 1:18I mean, thirsty for a snack and like meal and a shell?
- 1:21Baby, let's go. Yeah, I was like you could feed
- 1:26me and and did. I I can't believe that you got
- 1:34the location correctly when you were remembering it.
- 1:37That's wild. That's wild to me.
- 1:40And that, that I guess the important things really stick.
- 1:42They stick in your brain, don't they?
- 1:44I have a sickening memory. Actually, it's, it's weird, like
- 1:48'cause sometimes I can remember nothing, but the way that I will
- 1:52remember the detail if you've wronged me ever.
- 1:55Yeah, I, I remember every single detail of that conversation.
- 2:00And I promise I will pull those receipts up, Mama, and I will.
- 2:06I will win the argument, of course, and I'll win it again
- 2:08and again and again if we ever need to rehash it.
- 2:12Not you and I of. Course, I was going to say, so
- 2:13when you say things like that, it always makes me think, uh oh,
- 2:18like have I wronged him? And and it makes me feel so
- 2:22nervous. I mean, I think that at this
- 2:25point in, in our friendship, I would feel secure in our
- 2:28dynamic. But like, man, when you say
- 2:30things like that, it does make me very mindful of how I
- 2:32navigate our dynamic and our relationship.
- 2:34I'm like, not going to screw this up.
- 2:36He says don't fuck me. Have fun.
- 2:38Breakfast. Yeah, have fun, enjoy it.
- 2:42Life is I feel like also I just, I'm down for a little, a little
- 2:46argument, like a little back and forth.
- 2:49But you know, I to my friends and you can ask any, I mean, you
- 2:54are one of my greatest friends, but like you can ask any of my
- 2:57other friends, anyone who's been through conflict with me and
- 3:00come out on the other side. I I'll engage heavily, but like,
- 3:05I am reasonable, like I'm here to to find solution in the
- 3:09conflict. I'm not just here to burn
- 3:11bridges, but I will burn them. Yes, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:14Anyway. Enough about me.
- 3:16OK, on that note, let's get started.
- 3:18Hello listeners, we are so glad that you're here.
- 3:20You're listening to Looking Into, which is a podcast where
- 3:23two friends talk about pop culture, queer culture, and the
- 3:26lived human experience. We are committed, in case you
- 3:28didn't guess this already, to bringing passion and curiosity
- 3:31to the topics that interest us in hopes that they also interest
- 3:35you. It's really OK if they don't.
- 3:36You can listen to something else, but we're glad that you're
- 3:38here. That's so fun.
- 3:42OK, a question because the food truck was circling back to a
- 3:45previous conversation that we had.
- 3:46And in that conversation, we were talking about things that
- 3:49we appreciated about America. And I mentioned Trader Joe's and
- 3:56thought, I said. I made a statement that Trader
- 3:59Joe's was limited to the Northwest.
- 4:01Well, I don't think is that true.
- 4:03It's definitely not true, and I found out because one of our
- 4:07dedicated listeners sent me screenshots from the Trader
- 4:11Joe's website listing out all of the many states where Trader
- 4:16Joe's is located. Let's go, dedicated listener.
- 4:19You better get us together. Yeah.
- 4:20So thank you to that dedicated listener.
- 4:22You know who you are and I'm grateful for you.
- 4:24But Caleb, I have to ask you, how do you feel about listeners
- 4:28keeping us accurate? Because I think it's just.
- 4:33Like I'm so thankful and also am I?
- 4:36Am I really thankful? I love it.
- 4:37Correction. I actually love, especially if
- 4:40they're sending you the messages.
- 4:44No, no, no, I think it's great. Actually.
- 4:46I think it's very fierce. It doesn't mean that I've like
- 4:51I'm always going to agree, but I do appreciate accuracy.
- 4:56OK, unless it does, unless it doesn't fit my world view, in
- 4:59which case it's not true. That's.
- 5:01Not true. Well, that statement you're
- 5:02making is just absolutely false. OK, we do love an echo chamber,
- 5:05but I am going to. Say.
- 5:08The official stance of this podcast is if you're secure
- 5:12enough in our relationship to provide us with corrections and
- 5:17help us increase our accuracy. We do care about the things that
- 5:19we say and we do want to be mindful of how they come across.
- 5:23But that's not an invitation. Open doors for like a flood of
- 5:26feedback like the one who sent me the feedback.
- 5:29She knows who she is and she's allowed.
- 5:30She's allowed. So thank you to our unofficial
- 5:34research assistant, but unless you have been bestowed with that
- 5:37title, it's really just reserved to Shy and Minna and cast at
- 5:41this point. Those people are allowed, OK?
- 5:44Nobody else gives us people. Wait, but you can.
- 5:48Hey, look, engagement is engagement and engagement is
- 5:51good. So you can sound off in the
- 5:54e-mail or the comments or whatever and tell us how much
- 5:57you love us. That's great.
- 5:59Yes, Oh my gosh. And if you're listening to us on
- 6:01Spotify, you should probably give us a little rating right
- 6:03now and that rating will be 4 stars or higher.
- 6:05I mean, I would say 5 because. I mean, how many stars can they
- 6:08put on? I think they can do 5, so they
- 6:10should. Do it and five stars are higher.
- 6:13Just sleep with the five stars. Why do less?
- 6:17I could get off onto a tangent on this, by the way.
- 6:20OK, but I'll tangent. Wait, wait.
- 6:21Because I feel like there's room for improvement and I want
- 6:23honest feedback. But I guess maybe I don't if I'm
- 6:25encouraging people to promote us, I want them to just like
- 6:28promote us. Is that?
- 6:30I don't know, babe. This is not my industry.
- 6:32Are we? Are we?
- 6:35We're just you know what? Leave a five star.
- 6:38Five stars are great. Caleb says.
- 6:40Caleb says OK. And Speaking of, Caleb says,
- 6:44hey, we're gonna introduce a new format tonight.
- 6:46We're gonna try it out. May or may not work, but we're
- 6:48gonna say it's gonna work. We're gonna believe.
- 6:51Believe we're gonna work that's. For sure, I always work.
- 6:55OK, so Caleb was very busy this last weekend with Portland Pride
- 7:01birthing a child, as he likes to put it, yes.
- 7:05One of my another, another of my many children.
- 7:08Yes, the twin that has been like just holding on in your just
- 7:13finally decided to come out. Sounds like the Pride Festival
- 7:17was a success. It was, it was fabulous.
- 7:21So. Fun.
- 7:22Yeah, I loved that, loved it, loved that so much.
- 7:25But he's been very, very busy and hasn't had time to look into
- 7:27anything. So I proposed something else,
- 7:30which was. I have looked into a number of
- 7:32things and what we're gonna do is, do you want it?
- 7:36Caleb says. Caleb responds.
- 7:38Caleb replies. Caleb reacts.
- 7:39Like what? How do you want to title this
- 7:41segment? Caleb.
- 7:44Learns Caleb reacts. Yeah.
- 7:49That was a deep breath. Are you bracing yourself for
- 7:51this? I'm not going to quiz you on it
- 7:53like. No, no, I'm, I'm.
- 7:55I am locked in. I'm ready to go.
- 7:58I did my skin care. As you can see.
- 8:01I am glowing. You are glowing gorgeous.
- 8:03Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:04Thank you. OK, and unless you've been
- 8:06studying our Shared Notes app, you won't know what these topics
- 8:08are. So it's going to come as a
- 8:09surprise to him and we're just going to see how this goes.
- 8:13I have seen the updates, I've seen the notifications on the
- 8:17shared notes app, but I have not looked at them.
- 8:19OK, well let's get right into it.
- 8:21I have a number of topics, let me see how many.
- 8:25I'm scrolling through the notes that I made on my computer
- 8:28because this girl got her shit together.
- 8:31Yeah, this is already a great segment.
- 8:33I love it. OK, I think we're going to go
- 8:35through 6 topics. OK.
- 8:37Let's go. OK, First off, I want to go
- 8:40through a little box office review because as you know, the
- 8:45Odyssey dropped this weekend. It is definitely number one in
- 8:49the box office by miles and miles and miles.
- 8:52It earned 123.5 million domestically, 264,000,000
- 8:58globally, OK, the next closest. Is more internationally than.
- 9:03Yeah, like twice, almost twice as much, more than twice as much
- 9:07mass. We're not.
- 9:08This is not mass. OK, 123.5 million.
- 9:12The second film was Moana, which we have already determined that
- 9:16the live action remakes are not necessary and she came in at
- 9:1817.9 million. So this is a bit of a jump like.
- 9:22That is. 100 million, OK. What I want to talk about and
- 9:26Caleb, what I'm really interested in hearing your
- 9:28opinion on is this online discussion that's taking place
- 9:31around the format in which the Odyssey was filmed.
- 9:34So if you have not listeners been following this, Christopher
- 9:38Nolan, the director of The Odyssey, filmed this massive
- 9:42project specifically for IMAX, which means all the primary
- 9:46cinematic and cinematography choices that were made were
- 9:50based on an IMAX format. If you know film ratios, IMAX
- 9:55like it, OK. Basically the picture is more
- 9:59like a square than a horizontal rectangle.
- 10:02And so when the the film gets cropped for a standard film
- 10:06screen, you see a very, very different composition in the
- 10:11visual than what the cinematographer and the director
- 10:14filmed it for. So the conversation that's come
- 10:16up is that the people have lots of opinions about this because
- 10:21there are only 41 screens in the world that are formatted
- 10:27specifically for the IMAX 70mm size.
- 10:32And so the people have opinions about the fact that the line
- 10:35that has stuck out the most on social media is poor people are
- 10:38literally seeing less. OK, so I'm just going to give
- 10:45you that intro because I have thoughts with that information.
- 10:49I'm curious what all of your thoughts are.
- 10:52Well, I don't enjoy IMAX really at all.
- 10:59For whatever reason. I went and I saw Dune 2IN IMAX.
- 11:02I think I saw an Avatar movie in IMAX.
- 11:06I don't enjoy it. I don't know what it is.
- 11:08I don't need that. I don't need to see all of that,
- 11:11all that extra. I just want to see a what is it
- 11:16a square? Is that what it is?
- 11:17No, it's like a rectangle. OK, I just want to see the
- 11:20regular dagular fucking movie. I'm maybe it's 'cause I grew up
- 11:25poor. Maybe it's 'cause I grew up when
- 11:29that's the only option that there were for movies or that
- 11:32there was for movies. And yeah, I don't know.
- 11:38I don't care for IMAX personally.
- 11:41Are you offended by his choice to film it specifically for
- 11:44IMAX? Do you feel like you're getting
- 11:45second best? Well, I think that there's a lot
- 11:50of elitism in Hollywood. I think that as the politically,
- 12:00I think as we like start to shift away from the Hollywood
- 12:05for a while was doing a whole lot of performance for
- 12:08performative wokeness and they still are.
- 12:11But I think that it's becoming less and less required and it's
- 12:18becoming more cool to just be vapid and elitist and whatever
- 12:28in Hollywood as it's always been.
- 12:30So I don't feel like I care if I'm seeing less of the movie.
- 12:36But it doesn't surprise me that like a a massive Hollywood
- 12:41studio. And is it Christopher Nolan that
- 12:43makes all the choices, or is it the studio?
- 12:46I I don't know. 'Cause his name's on it,
- 12:49obviously. But is he taking the hit for
- 12:53choices that are actually being made by the studio?
- 12:56Because I have a feeling he's. I mean, he's picking the film,
- 13:00that format, He's picking his cinematographer.
- 13:02Like, I think that's the studio has to approve, but it's his
- 13:05film. Sure.
- 13:07Yeah, Yeah. Well, it does sound elitist.
- 13:12And if there's, I mean, there's an accessibility thing there
- 13:15right away. If there's like if there's only
- 13:1941 theaters where this movie can be, can be viewed at the in the
- 13:24format in which it was chose, like filmed.
- 13:27Yeah, there's no way for the majority of human beings who are
- 13:34moviegoers to go and see this film in its proper format.
- 13:38So, yeah, people are seeing less.
- 13:40I think more than just poor people are seeing less.
- 13:43But yeah, people without the amount of time and which it does
- 13:50kind of come down to poor people, people who are working
- 13:52more right, like are going to have less opportunity to see the
- 13:57movie. But movies are fucking expensive
- 13:59anyway. So it's like, yeah, what are
- 14:02your thoughts? OK, I'm glad you asked because I
- 14:04was going to tell you anyway. Yeah, I want to know.
- 14:07Honestly, it doesn't really bother me that much and I think
- 14:11that there's like a click bait reality to the the number 41
- 14:16because 41 refers specifically to IMAX 70mm, which is there's
- 14:20very, very few of those theaters.
- 14:22But there are way more options than just IMAX and standard.
- 14:26Like I there are more than there are 8 screens in the greater
- 14:30Seattle area that give a different aspect ratio that's
- 14:34closer to IMAX. There are 7 in the LA area.
- 14:39So like just looking at those two cities of Seattle and LA,
- 14:42which were the only ones I was able to find online 'cause I'm
- 14:44not a research assistant, I'm just me.
- 14:47But that number, right there is 15 screens that are more than
- 14:50standard. So just that #41 internationally
- 14:54is it's, it's a misleading number.
- 14:56There are lots of places where you can see this film.
- 14:59Yes, you there are lots of places where you can see this
- 15:01film and get closer to his original vision.
- 15:06There are also other benefits to shooting on film.
- 15:09So like IMAX is film which provides a different quality to
- 15:13the actual picture that will translate in a lot of ways to
- 15:16the standard screen. It impacts like that the level
- 15:19of definition. So the crispness, the clarity of
- 15:22the of the image as well as like the color saturation, like
- 15:25you're still getting the benefits of IMAX even if you're
- 15:28not in the same format. And also maybe this is part like
- 15:34I so I we famously grew up in the blockbuster era and we.
- 15:39We sure did when you could. Rent movies.
- 15:41You could rent movies in or buy in full screen and wide screen.
- 15:45And a lot of people chose full screen because they wanted to
- 15:48see it on their whole picture. Well, TV's historically have
- 15:52been more square shaped. So if you're watching a film on
- 15:55full screen versus wide screen, white screen being where you get
- 15:57the more horizontal box shape and you've got the black lines
- 16:00at the top and the bottom. A lot of people were bothered by
- 16:02that because they're like, I'm not seeing the full picture.
- 16:04I wanted to take up my whole screen.
- 16:06When you opted into full screen it, the film had to crop out the
- 16:11images that were on the side, so you still got an altered picture
- 16:14and nobody complained about that shit.
- 16:16They were just like, this is what I want 'cause I want it to
- 16:17fill my screen. So for me, it just feels kind of
- 16:19like the reverse where it's like, it's still, it's still
- 16:22movie. It's still gonna be gorgeous no
- 16:24matter what format you watch it in.
- 16:26And also like, I don't know, he's top of his.
- 16:31Like when you said elite, like this man is an artist.
- 16:35He is an elite filmmaker. And if you I had the opportunity
- 16:40to do a project of this magnitude of such a historical
- 16:45piece of fiction and with this like once in a generation
- 16:49ensemble cast, like I think do it however the fuck you want to
- 16:53do it like. I agree.
- 16:55Do the project the way you want to do it.
- 16:56Like, I have never seen the Mona Lisa in person.
- 17:00I have never. There are many, many, many
- 17:02famous works of art. No, I feel like it would be let
- 17:04down. But there are many famous works
- 17:06of art that none of us will ever see in person.
- 17:10And like, does is my life suffering because I saw it in
- 17:14like, print or I saw a picture of it online?
- 17:16Like you can still have an artistic experience even if
- 17:19you're not seeing the brush strokes and the texture of the
- 17:21oil on the canvas, you know, like, I just don't feel like it
- 17:24needs to be that different. Those are my thoughts.
- 17:26Yeah, I agree with you. And I think it's important to
- 17:31note that we're probably two people who can hold 2 truths at
- 17:37once. And while I'm like, yeah, I'm
- 17:40Hollywood is elitist and as they, you know, as they are, I'm
- 17:43also like, fucking fine. It is.
- 17:45You're absolutely right. Like it is his project.
- 17:48He can do whatever the fuck he wants with it.
- 17:49Yeah, I don't care. I'm not going to go see it at
- 17:53IMAX, most likely. I saw Wicked famously in
- 18:02standard IMAX and 3D, and at the end of the day I just liked it
- 18:07in standard. I saw it again in standard.
- 18:09I was like, yeah, that's the one I want.
- 18:11I. I don't know who you're famous
- 18:14to in this context because I was unaware of that story.
- 18:17Well, you saw Wicked four times. I saw wicked like 8 times.
- 18:23Matthew. And I saw it so many times.
- 18:25Is that your record? For how many?
- 18:28Yeah. Like.
- 18:28Probably number of film theater visits.
- 18:33OK, my record is 4 really. And it was.
- 18:36It was for Napoleon Dynamite in 2004.
- 18:40That's so funny. That's so funny.
- 18:42I think, yeah, I think probably Wicked was the most times I've
- 18:48ever gone to at the UNICEF movie.
- 18:50The first half. The first half for sure.
- 18:53I saw the second. Half and that was that.
- 18:55Was more than enough. Yeah, good choices.
- 18:58Yeah, OK. I do have cult application
- 19:02questions. Do you want them all at the end
- 19:04after we finish these topics or do you want to like end each
- 19:06topic with a cult application? Oh my God, I want them at the
- 19:15end. Rapid, rapid fire.
- 19:16As much as we can, yeah. OK, great.
- 19:18We'll do that. All right.
- 19:20Well, I feel like we've not solved that, but we've at least
- 19:22discussed it that. There's something you have.
- 19:27Yeah. Artists have absolute autonomy
- 19:29over the art they create. How about that?
- 19:31And so if you don't like it, actually this is something I
- 19:34want to say. If you don't like the art that
- 19:35the artist is creating, go make your own fucking art.
- 19:38If you don't like the way a business is being run, go run
- 19:40your own business. If you don't like the way
- 19:42someone's deciding to to do whatever it is that they do,
- 19:46that they have autonomy and agency over, then go do it
- 19:49better, better than they do. That's what I have to say about
- 19:51that. Yeah, it's not.
- 19:55It's not for that. OK, well, in our next topic, the
- 19:59person did just that. They saw something that was
- 20:01wrong and said, I want to fix that.
- 20:02We're going to talk about Paris Hilton and the Provo Canyon
- 20:06School. Are you familiar with Paris and
- 20:09the PCs? I'm familiar with Paris.
- 20:12I don't know about this school. OK, did you watch her
- 20:15documentary that came out? This is Paris?
- 20:17It came out in 2020. No.
- 20:19Well, and if I did, I don't remember it.
- 20:22You don't remember it. I mean, you were doing a lot of
- 20:23drugs in 2020, right? That's what we I was.
- 20:25Doing a lot of drugs and drinking a lot of alcohol.
- 20:27Yeah. So we we've talked about this.
- 20:29This is Canon. OK, so Paris Hilton, hotel
- 20:33heiress, we were alive in the 90s when she was on Simple Life
- 20:39or Simple Plan. She had this very public persona
- 20:41that was like, that's hot and like just being a rich dumb
- 20:46blonde. That was the persona that she
- 20:48put up. So in 2020, she released a
- 20:50documentary that shows that was very much a persona, a
- 20:54performance like personality that she was putting on.
- 20:57But what also was revealed in that documentary is her
- 21:00experience as a quote troubled teen who was sent to a reform
- 21:05school or a residential therapeutic institution.
- 21:09I don't know. I'm putting quotes around all of
- 21:10that. If you can't hear it in the way
- 21:12that I'm speaking. The school she specific, she
- 21:15spent about a year in the Provo Canyon School, which was this
- 21:19reformatory school in Utah in the late 1990s.
- 21:24I did watch this. And you did watch this.
- 21:27OK. So, yeah, you don't need me to
- 21:30tell you that there was lots and lots of abuse that she suffered
- 21:32while she was in that school, OK?
- 21:34So since then, she has done a lot of work to try to shut down,
- 21:38to shed light on these really, really horrific abusive
- 21:43practices that happen in a lot of these institutions.
- 21:46She's done testimony and legislation.
- 21:48She's talked to Congress and a lot of elected officials.
- 21:51She's helped push through federal legislation to increase
- 21:54oversight and transparency. And a big thing happened
- 21:59recently, like this month, which was that the Utah Department of
- 22:02Health and Human Services permanently shut down the
- 22:04school, the provoke Union School, and they have to cease
- 22:07all operations on their two locations by August 6th.
- 22:10OK, so I, yeah, I know a huge success and what a triumph to to
- 22:17survive abuse like that and then to use your power to go and
- 22:23change the system for other people moving forward.
- 22:26Like, because it's more than just this one school.
- 22:28Like the work that she's done to get legislation in place will
- 22:31hopefully create situations where these institutions are
- 22:34more strictly regulated moving forward and where this type of
- 22:38thing cannot happen. Now, this type of thing will
- 22:40continue to happen because people do terrible things.
- 22:43But still, this was a huge victory.
- 22:45And so I'm curious your thoughts on Paris Hilton as a celebrity
- 22:48in general and her ability to represent 2 very, very different
- 22:52personalities in the public eye. So we'll start there.
- 22:58Well, Paris Hilton is an icon. An absolute icon, legend, star.
- 23:04She is everything she and also a gay icon, massive proponent or
- 23:13yeah for gay rights and faggotry which is so important.
- 23:19I love Paris and always have. I'm, I'm getting that vibe from
- 23:25you that feels like, I mean, I'm picking up what you're putting
- 23:28down. I feel wigs love.
- 23:30Big sleigh for Paris and and she's a DJ and a pop star and an
- 23:37activist. And you know, it's just so
- 23:39fierce to see the girlies out there changing the world.
- 23:47She reminds me of Jane Fonda in some ways, in the way that,
- 23:51like, Jane Fonda was so in her early acting career, so heavily
- 23:56sexualized as, like, the bombshell character.
- 23:59And she's like one of the most iconic protesters and advocate
- 24:03like, yeah, that we've seen. She'll get out there and
- 24:07advocate for sure. Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:11What about the whole schools for troubled teens?
- 24:16It's interesting because I think, I don't know if it was
- 24:18this documentary, the one with Paris, but there was another
- 24:22documentary about one of these schools.
- 24:24And it was more of just like a group of people who in their
- 24:33teens had been basically kidnapped by people that their
- 24:38parents had hired, that had convinced their parents to hire
- 24:41them. And whatever the scam is
- 24:44kidnapped and taken to these schools.
- 24:45And they had no power. And even the parents, like,
- 24:49really couldn't get them out. And they thought, like, the
- 24:52parents are interviewing and saying, like, I thought I was
- 24:54doing what was best for my kids. Like, these people had convinced
- 24:57me that it was going to help them.
- 24:59And I had no idea the sort of like, horrible things they were
- 25:02doing to them in the schools. I went to high school and was
- 25:08really good friends with the girl in high school who this
- 25:10happened to really. And it and as I was watching, I
- 25:14was like, holy shit, this is what happened to her.
- 25:18And I remember she was just like gone one day and then like
- 25:24months later or whatever, she came back and she was very and
- 25:28she talked about it and like how scary it was.
- 25:31And but I also, she like, kind of brushed it off like, you
- 25:34know, we all deal with trauma in different ways, but like, really
- 25:38traumatizing. And so of course, as I was
- 25:40watching the documentary, I ran to Facebook and was like, I got
- 25:44to see if she's talking about this.
- 25:46Yeah. And she was, she was posting
- 25:48about it. And it's, I don't know if it was
- 25:50the same school that they were talking about on the
- 25:54documentary. And I don't know if that's the
- 25:56same school. Paris was talking about it, but
- 25:57it was in Utah. And it's great to hear that
- 26:01these these schools, these like prisons for children are being
- 26:08shut down because it is all shade to the parents, because I
- 26:16understand that you feel like you were doing the right thing
- 26:19for your kids. And yeah, I get it.
- 26:21That's fine. Well, you weren't.
- 26:26And that's, you know, I'm like, if you're going to, if maybe
- 26:31perhaps if we're going to have kids, we should just like lock
- 26:35in and take care of those kids, even if they're troubled, you
- 26:41know, engage in the the required work that it takes to help those
- 26:48troubled kids through those troubled times.
- 26:51Yeah, you know, I take issue. I mean, yes, I agree.
- 26:54I do think that there's so much ownership on parents to do some
- 27:00research before you send your kid away something.
- 27:04But I I don't know, I take issue with the word troubled.
- 27:08Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:08Yeah, yeah, totally. What, what does that even mean,
- 27:11to label somebody as a troubled teen?
- 27:13I just feel like, to me, that sounds like, oh, they're not
- 27:16fitting the social expectations that you have of that specific
- 27:18environment. Who gets to determine what is
- 27:21right in that situation? Who gets to determine or qualify
- 27:24somebody as troubled like that just feels?
- 27:26Do you think I was troubled? I think You Were Trouble.
- 27:31I mean, I tattooed it on my body.
- 27:33So yeah, I think you're probably right.
- 27:37I can't answer that for you. Do you think you were troubled?
- 27:41Absolutely. If they could have came and
- 27:43kidnapped me, they would have. I don't think they could have
- 27:45gotten me. I don't think so.
- 27:47And you probably would have burned that shit down from the
- 27:49inside. Yeah, the warden or something.
- 27:51Man, it would have a very different documentary.
- 27:53All of the above, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
- 27:57I. Agree with you, I think it's
- 27:59lazy. It's lazy use of alliteration to
- 28:05to do some funny. Yeah, I'm.
- 28:08Like. They're teenagers.
- 28:09Yes, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And, and hear me when I say we
- 28:14need more mental health options for teens.
- 28:16Like there needs to be more steps of levels of support
- 28:22between like outpatient counseling and an inpatient
- 28:25psychiatric unit. Like there has to be more
- 28:27outpatient or intensive outpatient and inpatient options
- 28:31that are a step between or a step down, like a step between
- 28:36once a week talking to a counselor and being locked into
- 28:38a hospital. Like there's, we all need more
- 28:42options to be able to meet us where we're at.
- 28:43But I do think that adults making a decision based on their
- 28:47expectations of what health looks like and making that
- 28:50decision for somebody else who has their own autonomy and their
- 28:53own identity and ideas is, is really, really dangerous.
- 28:57And we know that power corrupts. We know that when you have an
- 28:59organization in a system that you put in place like that,
- 29:03people are not going to necessarily be responsible with
- 29:06what's been entrusted to them without full transparency.
- 29:09So I would say like as a rule, if you're engaging in any sort
- 29:12of organization that's not being very, very clear and transparent
- 29:18in what is happening behind the closed doors, like that's a
- 29:22massive red flag. Run, run, run, run, run if you
- 29:25can. Yeah, yeah, right.
- 29:27And I think in this capitalist society that we live in, it's I
- 29:31found myself less and less trusting of not of mental health
- 29:35services, but of any situation that is like benefiting if
- 29:44there's no financial benefit to a cure, you know, a cure, a
- 29:49solution, a resolution. Because like you see it with
- 29:53those kids, if they're taken from being troubled teens to all
- 29:58better they start making money. Yeah, you know.
- 30:01So then then they're not, they don't get their funding.
- 30:03There's no incentive to actually help somebody move on.
- 30:07Yeah. Exactly.
- 30:09And that's why like mental health, like mental health
- 30:13professionals, I feel like a big part, it takes a long time and a
- 30:17lot of dedication and, and really caring and being
- 30:21passionate about helping people because it's you, you have to,
- 30:30you have to be able to put that goal over the like financial
- 30:34piece of it, if that. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:36Yeah, you can. Speak to that more than me.
- 30:39No, I'm just, I'm just thinking about when you sign up to meet
- 30:41with a therapist, it is, it is law.
- 30:45They have to provide you with a public disclosure statement that
- 30:47says this is who I am, this is how I practice.
- 30:50And then here, here are your rights as a client and here's
- 30:53who you can contact if you have any concerns with how I am
- 30:55practicing this service. And like the transparency is, is
- 31:01everywhere. The problem with these schools
- 31:03is a lot of them operate underneath a religious or a
- 31:07ministerial like umbrella, which means that they are not
- 31:12responsible, but to the same regulations that medical
- 31:15professionals are. So there's like a religious
- 31:18loophole where you see schools like, you know, conversion
- 31:21therapy camps and stuff like that, that exist because people
- 31:24have decided that they should exist.
- 31:25Even though side note, if you don't know this, you need to
- 31:28know it. There's absolutely no medical
- 31:31evidence that conversion therapy is helpful.
- 31:32It's actually very, very, very, very harmful.
- 31:34But those types of places continue to exist because they
- 31:37exist underneath the umbrella of a religious institution.
- 31:40And so they have different, they have different rules and
- 31:42different rights. I wonder why people don't
- 31:45transfer church like. I wonder I.
- 31:51Wonder transparency is never a bad thing.
- 31:54We should always welcome transparency in everything
- 31:58except for maybe clothes. I agree.
- 31:59Well. Sometimes in clothes.
- 32:03OK, maybe not all clothes. But it's crazy.
- 32:08Are there spaces where we shouldn't?
- 32:09I don't want a transparent house.
- 32:10I want my house to have some like.
- 32:12Yeah, but remember that movie The Glass House with no
- 32:17Sovievsky? No.
- 32:21It's fierce. Yeah.
- 32:22OK. It was a horror movie, though.
- 32:24I don't know if you'd love it. No, I don't love horror.
- 32:26We know this about me. It's too scary.
- 32:28OK All right, so we basically, we've covered that Paris Hilton
- 32:33is an icon and a legend. We celebrate her victory.
- 32:36We ask for transparency. And we will continue to say,
- 32:39hey, there need to be more mental health options for teens.
- 32:41And if you come at me and you describe a kid as troubled, I'm
- 32:45going to have some words for you right away.
- 32:47That's going to be weird. It's going to be awkward for you
- 32:49because Heidi's going to light you up.
- 32:52And I just want to throw it out there.
- 32:54I think that we could reboot the Simple Life.
- 32:56I think a reboot of The Simple Life would be fierce.
- 33:00Odd I will feature on it. Of.
- 33:02Course, Paris with Nicole with you, there's a lot of things
- 33:08that we could do here. So Netflix.
- 33:13And that was really mean. Paramount, potentially
- 33:18paramount. I could revive your your
- 33:20programming in a lot of ways. Caleb, I'm going to be really
- 33:22honest. I don't think that I can
- 33:24participate in something that's HBO level, like I can watch HBO.
- 33:29Well, not with that attitude, you.
- 33:33Can it makes me feel very tense. Yeah.
- 33:36Clutching my pearls. I love it.
- 33:42Caleb, well now just despite and because he's a petty bitch,
- 33:46slowly pursue projects that are affiliated with HBO from
- 33:49national. I'm already on the line just.
- 33:53To see me squirm. OK.
- 33:54Are you ready to move on? I'm ready.
- 33:57OK, we are clearly the world's foremost experts on sports ball,
- 34:02so we're going to talk about the World Cup.
- 34:04Yeah, absolutely. Have you seen enough of the
- 34:07World Cup, like in the periphery of what's around that you can
- 34:09speak on Argentina? No.
- 34:14OK, stop. I'm gonna give you, I'm gonna
- 34:16give you some info, OK? There's lots of noise around
- 34:18Argentina, the so-called villains of the World Cup
- 34:21mainly. They're not bad behavior.
- 34:23OK, so they obvious news is they lost the championship, which,
- 34:28OK, second in World Cup, still a big, big deal.
- 34:31But Spain won the championship match and took home the title of
- 34:34champion one to zero. And there was a bunch of brawls
- 34:39that broke out on the field after the match.
- 34:42During the ceremony where they received the trophy, the
- 34:47Argentinian team turned their backs and refused to watch it
- 34:50happen. And throughout the tournament,
- 34:52there has been a lot of noise around Argentina, a lot of
- 34:54people thinking that they've benefited from really biased
- 34:58officiating, that they've been extremely rough in their fouls
- 35:03and that don't often get called. It feels like there seems to be
- 35:07a more than professional, like a more invested maybe financially
- 35:11relationship between Messi, the captain of the Argentinian team
- 35:16and the president of FIFA. And so there actually was a
- 35:18petition that was going around that got 23 million signatures
- 35:23within a week to have Argentina like banned from the World Cup.
- 35:27Now obviously, Well, that sounds.
- 35:29Ridiculous. I I mean all the things, so all
- 35:32of that you. Can get 23 million signatures
- 35:34for anything though, by the way, like there's how many billions
- 35:38of people on the Internet? I'm sorry.
- 35:40I'm like whatever. Not impressed?
- 35:43You're not impressed by the petition?
- 35:45I'm not impressed. I'm more annoyed, but yeah.
- 35:48Okay, say more. I just want your response to all
- 35:50of this. Okay, well, I think that
- 35:55Argentina clearly had some poor sport behavior in the final game
- 36:04for sure. It's so, it's so good.
- 36:08They had poor sport behavior. Yeah.
- 36:13Oh my gosh, God bless. We are not new.
- 36:16We are not sportscasters. Continue No.
- 36:19Jerk No, also fuck them kids because yeah, I don't know, like
- 36:25are they they did seem like brats for sure.
- 36:28Like I was watching the the clips and whatever and look,
- 36:31just just lose gracefully it. It's not necessary to do all
- 36:36that. Plus you won last year.
- 36:37Like yeah, say you know, you had your meteoric rise, like messy.
- 36:42I remember listening to this podcast all through the World
- 36:45Cup, not last year, but the last World Cup.
- 36:48Was it last year? Is it every year?
- 36:50No World Cup, No, I think every four.
- 36:53Every four years, yeah, it feels like it was last year, anyway.
- 36:58Yes, we're clear. Yes, of course it wasn't.
- 37:02I'm like, wow, time flies. I'm getting old, truly.
- 37:08So I remember listening to this whole podcast about Messi and
- 37:13about Argentina and it was so cool because they're like
- 37:16building up to the wind and it it was just like an an awesome
- 37:19experience. So I was pro Argentina and I
- 37:22really don't give a fuck about sports as we know.
- 37:24But yeah, this, this, this World Cup, it clearly they just
- 37:30weren't on their best behavior. Bummer.
- 37:33And maybe maybe messy is like, you know.
- 37:39Corrupt. Don't, don't finish.
- 37:40That's enough. You said.
- 37:43I saw. I saw your filter catching shit
- 37:45as you were saying there in a previous discussion.
- 37:49You said that you believe FIFA is corrupt.
- 37:52Absolutely. Does that factor into this or
- 37:55are you just referencing that investigation that happened in
- 37:57the corruption scandal from 2015?
- 38:01Well, I'm not referencing anything.
- 38:06I'm I'm just a vibes guy over here.
- 38:09OK, so the vibe is corruption. I'm not making any serious
- 38:13allegations, but I bet Messi's sucking off the FIFA president,
- 38:18how about that? That's I damn it, you got that
- 38:21in your filter the first time. Yeah, I did.
- 38:25And then I decided, no, I'm not. Let it go, let it go.
- 38:29Oh my gosh. I mean, I do think there's
- 38:31always room in organizations for corruption.
- 38:33And I feel like athletics, especially when you get money
- 38:35involved, obviously like athletics are just ripe for for
- 38:40corruption. But I also feel like contests
- 38:42like this are ripe for whining, like if your team doesn't win,
- 38:45you're going to be upset about things.
- 38:48So I don't know if it's valid or not.
- 38:49I just know that, like, me, my little person, my strong,
- 38:54powerful self, as an individual, yeah, let's not diminish
- 38:57ourselves, OK? As an individual, though, who's
- 39:00clearly not invested in this world of sports ball, like I
- 39:03have very little influence, no influence over FIFA.
- 39:08But I think if we take the outrage and apply it to our
- 39:11current world, like I think it's valuable to think about, like,
- 39:13what is motivating the decisions that you make in your life?
- 39:16What are you valuing, especially if you're part of an
- 39:18organization where money's involved.
- 39:20And I think you can be part of an organization and say our
- 39:22priority is the capital. Our priority is not the people.
- 39:27But again, I think you have to be transparent about it.
- 39:29Like anybody who gets into sales knows they're not showing up or
- 39:32signing up for a job where they're going to be like
- 39:35holistically supported by their boss.
- 39:37They know that they're showing up.
- 39:38And the bottom line is how much money can you make us?
- 39:40Like, I think when you're running an organization and you
- 39:42say you're about the athletics and you're about the beauty of
- 39:44the sport, then you have to be about the athletics and the
- 39:46beauty of the sport. Like if you're going to be about
- 39:48money, just say you're about money.
- 39:49Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Are you about money?
- 39:55No, no. But that comes from a place of
- 39:58privilege where like, I haven't had to be about money because
- 40:01like. I just, I recognize the
- 40:04privilege when I say no, I'm not all about money.
- 40:06It's not the most important thing to me like.
- 40:09I love that. That's why you're.
- 40:11Education. I married an educator.
- 40:12How could you do I? Was going to say you're in the
- 40:14field you're in, Yeah. And that's beautiful.
- 40:18And there has to be people like you out there for.
- 40:22People like you to make money off of.
- 40:26Yeah. Are you about the money?
- 40:30Oh baby, I there's been one through line in my life.
- 40:34This one thing that I have loved since I was a fucking child for
- 40:38as long as I can remember, probably 5 years old, is when I
- 40:43became aware that I love money with all my heart.
- 40:47That's what I love. Yeah.
- 40:50Yeah. I don't have enough of it to
- 40:52make that valid. Not like, you know, to really,
- 40:55like, lock that in. But I just love it.
- 40:58I love it. I think it comes from the fact
- 41:00that I was very, very poor as a kid.
- 41:03Yeah. And that was the thing that made
- 41:04me feel, you know, I was like, if I have more of this, I'll be
- 41:07free. And it always felt so ridiculous
- 41:10to me that people would say money doesn't buy happiness.
- 41:13I'm like, money would certainly buy me fucking happiness.
- 41:15And it has. Frankly, now that I have, I'm
- 41:19not surviving at every moment. I'm not paycheck to paycheck and
- 41:24I'm much happier than I was when I was.
- 41:27Yeah, no, that's true. I mean, from a give me a second
- 41:32to nerd out on brain science, please and thank you.
- 41:34But when you're living in a state of survival like that and
- 41:37your brain is under chronic stress, like there are long term
- 41:39damages that happen to your hippocampus that has to do with
- 41:41how you can make like long, long term planning and decisions.
- 41:44Like the way that when you're constantly in fighter foot, you
- 41:48know what? Stop.
- 41:49I mean, I don't need to go to physiological psych.
- 41:51I'm just going to hit pause right now and just say I agree.
- 41:53When you are in survival mode, there's a lot of different.
- 41:55Funds. No, you weren't.
- 41:58We were going to clip that. We were going to clip that
- 42:03audience. Listeners, we need you to weigh
- 42:05in. Did you want Heidi to finish or
- 42:07no? Hey research assistant, you
- 42:10should check me on that but I am drawing from information for my
- 42:13undergrad education which was like 20 years ago so it might
- 42:16not be like fully. Speaking of hippopotamus, do you
- 42:24love the little videos of that baby hippo that's that have been
- 42:27coming out? I have not seen baby hippo
- 42:29videos. There's baby hippo videos.
- 42:31I'll find it. It's like a pygmy hippo.
- 42:33It's like I was like mini hippopotamus.
- 42:35OK, I'll find it. My feelings are a little hurt.
- 42:38I feel like you're holding out on me.
- 42:39The fact that you know that these exist and I don't know
- 42:41them yet. So.
- 42:43Maybe I made it up, I don't know.
- 42:45No, you have, you have till tonight to rectify that.
- 42:48So you will fix that for me. I'm gonna put it at the bottom
- 42:50of my notes. Remind Caleb to send me hippo
- 42:55vid. OK.
- 42:57All right. Moving on, did you see there's
- 43:001/2 time performance in the finale game?
- 43:05I did. I did see, yeah.
- 43:09And it was Shakira and Justin Bieber.
- 43:13Madonna's doing her thing, isn't she?
- 43:15Have you heard Madonna's new album?
- 43:17No. Oh my God, it's like
- 43:21transporting me back to 2009, 2008.
- 43:25Worth listen. Confessions on the dance board.
- 43:28It's absolutely worth a listen. Yeah, it's great.
- 43:31OK. It's great, yeah.
- 43:33Listen to Madonna. Confessions too, by the way.
- 43:41This is the baby. Hippo, I do want to snuggle him.
- 43:44I'll send you. Since it's blurred, I'll send.
- 43:47You thank you. Appreciate that people had
- 43:51opinions about the fact that Justin Bieber played an acoustic
- 43:55guitar set for his performance, people.
- 43:59People are going to have fucking feelings again about the artist.
- 44:03Justin Bieber has paid his dues. That's my feeling.
- 44:06Justin Bieber has paid his dues since a child.
- 44:08He has gotten up on that stage and entertained for the masses.
- 44:12He's been fucking touched on and ripped around and yanked around
- 44:17and treated like shit and opinions about him.
- 44:20Like absolutely unacceptable opinions thrown out about him in
- 44:24public discourse. Fuck y'all.
- 44:27You don't have any right to have an opinion about Justin Bieber
- 44:30and the kind of set he plays. If you want to play.
- 44:32If you want to hear a different set, get up off your ass, make
- 44:36the career that he's made, get booked for the halftime show at
- 44:40the World Cup and play your own set that you want to play.
- 44:42That's how I feel about that. Perfection.
- 44:46OK. Thank you.
- 44:48He could, plus when he did Coachella and he like pressed
- 44:50play on his Spotify playlist. Bitch that was fucking fierce.
- 44:54Don't play with me. Do not fucking play with.
- 44:57Me his old YouTube videos. Yes, that was fierce.
- 45:02OK, yeah. So just do whatever the fuck he
- 45:04wants. I.
- 45:04Don't care, OK, I kind of love it and I'm I have the same
- 45:07mindset now. I'm not an entertainment
- 45:09producer such as yourself, but I also feel like he paid his dues
- 45:12and he can do whatever he wants. And also if they're booking him
- 45:15like you know what you're booking and.
- 45:18He made his Bunny. Good.
- 45:19Good on him to be like, I'm gonna sing because, like, he got
- 45:23into this as a baby because he loved music.
- 45:27And the fact that there's still that in him that he's willing to
- 45:31still be an artist and try now to do things on his term now
- 45:35that he has the fully developed prefrontal cortex where he can
- 45:38make decisions for himself that he couldn't make for the first
- 45:40decade and a half of his career. Like, I love that for him.
- 45:44And so I also feel like people can just like, take several
- 45:48seats. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:50Sit on the ground. No chair for you.
- 45:52No chair for you. We are Pro Bieber at this
- 45:55podcast. Yeah, thank you.
- 45:57Yeah, he's, you know, he's gone through a lot too.
- 46:00And I don't, I actually don't really know, you know, because
- 46:02that's the thing, it's always, there's so much information out
- 46:04there about like what's happening with Justin Bieber and
- 46:06all of these other celebrities that the obsession with
- 46:09celebrity like goings on is kind of silly in, in like how hyper
- 46:15critical we as a society can be of these human beings.
- 46:19Yeah. And it but according to the
- 46:22press, Justin's been going through some shit, so good for
- 46:25him. Staying booked, staying blessed.
- 46:28Take care of your family, do your thing, play your guitar,
- 46:31sing, sing a song or don't sing a song.
- 46:33I don't care. OK, go, Biebs.
- 46:35We're we're rooting for you. Yeah.
- 46:37OK. From one cutie pie to another.
- 46:39I need to know gear shift if you know about Jimothy the Raccoon.
- 46:45Our good our dear friend Jimothy up here in Seattle.
- 46:48Yes. Mm hmm.
- 46:50Oh, I know about Jimothy. OK, I I I'm I'm a big fan of
- 46:54Jimothy. Yeah, a big fan of Jimothy, and
- 46:58I have to say, I'm obsessed with raccoons.
- 47:01I want when I get my little hoe with my little farmstead, I'm
- 47:06getting some raccoons I want. I want everyone to know that it
- 47:10might not work well with the chickens.
- 47:11I want to, yeah, but we'll keep them separate, OK?
- 47:16OK, I listeners, if you are not familiar, I'm just going to need
- 47:19you to go ahead and hit pause on this podcast right now, unless
- 47:22you're driving and then wait till you get to, you know, a
- 47:25place where you can actually access your mobile phone safely.
- 47:27But you need to Google Jimothy because he is this adorable
- 47:31little deformed raccoon in Seattle who looks like an alien.
- 47:38The the medical experts say he has a spinal deformity, so I
- 47:41wasn't trying to be offensive with that.
- 47:44But he does have a very unique shape.
- 47:48Looks like, I mean, I don't know, you Google him and then
- 47:50you decide for yourself what you want to make of Jimothy's
- 47:53special uniform. He's so cute.
- 47:56He's so cute. And I love a raccoon as well.
- 48:01Yeah, they're adorable. I just.
- 48:04They're so sweet. I raccoon 10 out of 1010 out of
- 48:0910. A couple weeks ago when we spun
- 48:13the wheel, there was a book recommendation and I recommended
- 48:15a book called The Blood of Hercules.
- 48:17There is a character in that book who is a Sonic like demigod
- 48:22God character who has like his support animal is this little
- 48:26raccoon named Poco. And so he's this big
- 48:29intimidating character and his Poco just like chills on his
- 48:33head and braids his hair and is just like always there.
- 48:37And it's a really phenomenal. If you didn't want to read the
- 48:39book already, I'm just going to tell you Blood of Hercules by
- 48:41Jasmine Moss does feature a very excellent raccoon, so.
- 48:45That's so cute. Yeah, now you know that.
- 48:47What's the name? Rocket was the name of the
- 48:49raccoon in the. Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 48:54Guardians of the Galaxy, Yeah. Best character in the show?
- 48:57Agreed. Yes, heart wrenching.
- 49:01Well, they go together. Yeah.
- 49:04I mean, peas and carrots, Groot and Rocket.
- 49:05Let's go. Amen.
- 49:07OK, we're going to stay on this track of adorable animals.
- 49:11I sent you a post about a gay sheep farm, OK?
- 49:16And I wanted to give you some more information because I
- 49:18looked into it. OK, tell me, Tell me about the
- 49:21gay. Sheep.
- 49:21I didn't even do that for her. I looked into it because that's.
- 49:24Her place. Wow.
- 49:25Sorry, I got shrill there for a second.
- 49:27I jumped up and OK. That's when she gets excited.
- 49:30OK, it never happens. OK OK, so this farm is in
- 49:34Germany. So here's what happens.
- 49:36People, statistically, one in 12 sheep have homosexual interests.
- 49:42OK, they're gay. And that's about.
- 49:45The same as people. Yeah, one in 12, we really it's
- 49:48just one in 12 that was one in four.
- 49:50I think we definitely 10 down. To one in four, but yeah.
- 49:53Okay, anyway, in the sheep world, one in 12 are gay.
- 49:57And when Rams do not fulfill their quote, UN quote, breeding
- 50:01purpose, they get sent to the slaughterhouse because you're
- 50:04not going to be knocking up. Yeah, make that face.
- 50:06It's offensive. If you're not knocking up the
- 50:08ewes. They're like, well, we have no
- 50:09use for you, so we will feed people with you.
- 50:12OK, so there's this German farmer who rescues these gay
- 50:17Rams and has a farm in Germany that's like ecologically
- 50:23sustainable. It's like a wildlife preserve.
- 50:27He's like on the leading edge of conservation efforts and things
- 50:30like that. And his flock is all gay Rams
- 50:34and they. And then when they harvest their
- 50:36wool, they create like apparel and fashion products from the
- 50:40wool from. This run me the website I want
- 50:44gay ram fashion please first. Of all.
- 50:48Gay Ram. We'll just let that sit there.
- 50:52And that's fierce. And what the I'm not surprised
- 51:00that they're killing our people or our our our sheep.
- 51:05Sheep. Our.
- 51:09Kind. Yeah.
- 51:11They're always trying to kill us.
- 51:12What? The fuck?
- 51:13Yeah, it's. Really.
- 51:14Not good. That's nasty.
- 51:16Yeah, that's nasty. Well.
- 51:19Caleb, this is really important. You can sponsor a gay sheep
- 51:23through rainbow wool. OK.
- 51:26So when we start making money, can our podcast sponsor a gay
- 51:31sheep? Yeah, I'm literally I'm going to
- 51:35sponsor a gay sheep. Right right now, Rainbow Wool,
- 51:40we are going to include the link to the Rainbow Wool website in
- 51:43the show notes. He's gasping.
- 51:47I want to sponsor them. All I broke Caleb.
- 51:52I'm so sorry, so cute. What the fuck?
- 51:58Oh wait, hold on, I have to show you.
- 52:05Oh my God, how? Cute they are.
- 52:07I know, I know. Don't you just want to snuggle
- 52:09all their faces? How do you blushy boshy?
- 52:14Cowboy. Joe Cowboy, Franz Kafka, You've
- 52:19got to be fucking kidding me. Frinderlyn von Schroff horny.
- 52:25Horny horny. We love him.
- 52:28Well, listeners, we're gonna have to sponsor a few.
- 52:34We're gonna need to come up with a a, a survey and we're gonna
- 52:41have to choose which which sheep we're gonna sponsor, OK?
- 52:46OK. Yeah, we'll do that.
- 52:48This is the most important thing we've talked about all day.
- 52:53Gay rights. Oh my God.
- 52:55So I'm gonna include the link to the website below our Spotify
- 53:03episode, below the show, and then we're going to start a poll
- 53:08on our Instagram. Yeah, poll on the Instagram.
- 53:12For which Ram we will sponsor? OK, So people, we'll keep the
- 53:19poll up for a little bit of time.
- 53:20So if you're hearing this hustle on over to our Instagram, it's
- 53:22looking into podcast, OK? And you can weigh in on whether
- 53:26or not we're going to be sponsoring Frank Kafka or Horny
- 53:31or Madonna or whatever. Fonsi Bonsi the.
- 53:36Other name. They're all so cute.
- 53:38We're gonna choose. Heidi and I are gonna come up
- 53:40with five and you will all get to choose between those 5.
- 53:44Okay, sounds good. That's so fierce.
- 53:48Wow. Thank you, Heidi.
- 53:49Doing the Lord's work for gay sheep, you know.
- 53:53What? That's I.
- 53:53Feel so seen in this moment. I'm so personally I'm not a
- 53:58sheep, but. But you could be.
- 54:01I could be, you could be. I could be with a horn like
- 54:04that, Mama. Oh my gosh.
- 54:12All. Right, What's next I need, I'm
- 54:15going to, we're going to do a rapid fire summary because I
- 54:17have cult considerations for all of these things.
- 54:20OK? So I think it's always important
- 54:22as we're working on ongoing projects like our intentions to
- 54:25start a cult and they're really your intentions.
- 54:30I'm looping myself into this because I don't want to be left
- 54:32behind. So OK in our intention to.
- 54:35Start a cult. A famous book series.
- 54:37Did you read that from a cult? Of course I did what?
- 54:42Did you think of it? Oh I I read it like it was
- 54:44gospel. Me too.
- 54:46Yeah, me too. And and then I, you know,
- 54:50learned more and realized that the Book of Revelation is
- 54:52actually a very specific form of literature called apocalyptic
- 54:56literature and that it was not meant to be predictive of the
- 54:59future, but it was actually a very stylized and poetic warning
- 55:03to the churches of the day. So hey, if you're going to read
- 55:04the Bible, you have to read it contextually within the cultural
- 55:09context and the literary context of the form of you're written.
- 55:12Like if you're reading poetry, it's poetry.
- 55:14It's not predictive prophecy. So left behind this wrong.
- 55:18I was always like, if there's gonna be a rapture and tons of
- 55:22people are just gonna disappear one day, why don't I just wait
- 55:24for that to be like locked in? Why don't I just lock in then?
- 55:29It didn't really seem like there was a whole lot of consequence
- 55:31to not lock in after the rapture.
- 55:33Oh, no. You know, I I lived in that fear
- 55:35of hell, baby. I was like, we gotta go.
- 55:38We gotta yeah, you can't be left behind.
- 55:42I just feel like I have more chances to rule the world after
- 55:46everyone else is gone. It makes sense given our given
- 55:49our personalities that you would be looking at that
- 55:51strategically. How do I play this to my
- 55:53advantage where I'm like, uh oh, now I'm scared I will respond
- 55:58emotionally. OK.
- 55:59So Kayla, will our cult have access to movie screens and will
- 56:04we invest in IMAX or standard? Our cult will have access to
- 56:12movie screens in a standard format for propaganda purposes.
- 56:16OK, excellent. What will our cult do with
- 56:20troubled teens? Weaponize them.
- 56:26Excellent. Yeah, Arm them and weaponize
- 56:30them, yeah. Do we need checks and balances
- 56:33for our cult leadership organization?
- 56:36No what? OK, we're following the FIFA
- 56:38route. We're not gonna have checks and.
- 56:40Balances. No check.
- 56:41Yeah, checks and balances. OK.
- 56:45The checks. You can write me the checks, but
- 56:47I won't be balanced. Regarding half time
- 56:51performances, sorry, I just, I just caught up with what you
- 56:55were saying. Sometimes I just move on too
- 57:00fast and I miss the quips that you make until I listen to us
- 57:03back and then I'm like, damn it, how did I miss that?
- 57:05He stole the hot pot. Like I don't you can write us
- 57:09checks. We won't be balanced.
- 57:11OK, when it comes to halftime performances, when we host
- 57:15entertainment, what are our production standards and will
- 57:19Biebs be allowed to go lo fi? If it's within the contractual
- 57:28obligations that we agreed upon ahead of time, yes.
- 57:33I am an artist first producer. I like to have artists feel
- 57:39supported, and I like for them to be able to produce the art
- 57:43that they want to produce in its most authentic form because I
- 57:48feel like that's what produces the best art.
- 57:53But they need to communicate what it is that they want to do
- 57:56ahead of time so I can best support them.
- 57:57And if they go off script from the contract, we're gonna have a
- 58:01problem. OK, so listeners, no checks and
- 58:05balances to our system other than the checks that you write
- 58:08us. But if you're coming to provide
- 58:10live entertainment, you will have a locked down contract and
- 58:14you'll have an excellent negotiation.
- 58:18The things that you take seriously.
- 58:19I love it so much, Jimothy. OK, do we need a mascot?
- 58:23Yeah. We probably is our.
- 58:25Mascot going to be Jimoth, yeah. All.
- 58:30All the mascots we're gonna have, Jimothy, we'll have the
- 58:32pygmy hippo, we'll have gay sheep.
- 58:33We'll have them all. Period.
- 58:36Goats. There's gotta be goats. 2 goats.
- 58:39Why? Why there's?
- 58:40Why? Because I'm obsessed with goats.
- 58:42I love goats. But just two.
- 58:45At least 2 two liter goats. There can be young goats too,
- 58:48but at least two leadership goats. 2 leadership The entire
- 58:53leadership team is. Goats.
- 58:56OK, this is really important to me.
- 58:57Screaming goats or fainting goats?
- 59:01One is screaming, one is fainting and they have to do it
- 59:04at the same time. I can't wait for those
- 59:09leadership meetings, babe. It's going to be a great, great
- 59:11cold. Fears.
- 59:13Yeah, that's the balance that we're talking about.
- 59:17Excellent. Yeah, Yeah.
- 59:19My last question was can we sponsor a sheep?
- 59:21But we've already determined that that's happening.
- 59:22So that is. What it is?
- 59:24OK, excellent. Well, that concludes what I have
- 59:29prepared for this episode of Caleb Reacts and our cool
- 59:33considerations. Do you have any follow up
- 59:35thoughts? I'd love, I love your response.
- 59:37And if you like this format, if it worked, if you I don't know,
- 59:39I'm gonna stop talking. I'm gonna let you.
- 59:41Talk I'm I'm really interested in how the how our listeners
- 59:45felt because I love it. I'm obsessed with with you
- 59:50asking me questions. That's great.
- 59:53Yeah. This is so fun.
- 59:57I also want to know are is there a gay goat farm now that we're
- 1:00:00talking about gay livestock? I don't know, babe, you can look
- 1:00:04into that because I feel like, I feel like I'm going to take the
- 1:00:07research I have. My homework.
- 1:00:08You have your homework, OK, I. Have my homework for next week.
- 1:00:11You're going to send me the hippo video and you're going to
- 1:00:13see if there's gay goat farms. I need to listen to Madonna's
- 1:00:17album and then we'll figure out which sheep we're going to
- 1:00:21sponsor. Period.
- 1:00:23Yeah, OK. That's great.
- 1:00:25What a fun time. What a fun time.
- 1:00:27On that note, Brandon, I think we're done here for the night.
- 1:00:30So play us out, babe. Play us out.
