- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, NASA Chobi.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome back to another edition of Hawk Talk. The Seahawks
- 0:14Speaker 1: get it done in dominating fashion. 31-7 being the Arizona Cardinals.
- 0:20Speaker 1: And Seahawks got their number. I mean, straight up, the
- 0:22Speaker 1: Seahawks beat the Cardinals for the 10th time in a row.
- 0:25Speaker 1: 12 showed up, took over State Farm Stadium like they
- 0:28Speaker 1: always do. Now won a franchise record 12 consecutive games,
- 0:32Speaker 1: including the postseason, nine consecutive regular season games, 25-5 in
- 0:37Speaker 1: their last 30-game bump, 25 games in a row without
- 0:40Speaker 1: losing a game by more.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Than one score.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Yeah, these guys are dialed in, and we knew they
- 0:44Speaker 3: were going to be dialed in. It's the Cardinals.
- 0:46Speaker 4: The Cardinals had a good week against the Chargers. They're
- 0:48Speaker 4: trying to see if they're for real, if we're for real,
- 0:51Speaker 4: and the score don't lie.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It's unreal and then you throw in coach mike mcdonald's
- 0:55Speaker 1: record on the road 16 and 2 are you kidding
- 0:58Speaker 1: me that's crazy it is it's unbelievable these guys do
- 1:00Speaker 1: it on the road and what they've just really done
- 1:02Speaker 1: over the last we are so spoiled and anyone who's
- 1:04Speaker 1: been a seahawk fan for a really long time obviously
- 1:07Speaker 1: people been a seahawk fan for a lot longer than
- 1:08Speaker 1: i've been alive you can really appreciate what we're witnessing
- 1:11Speaker 1: right now because greatness come on man 12 in a
- 1:13Speaker 1: row yeah There's, I think, the Colts watching their game.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I think they lost nine consecutive going back to last season. So, just, like,
- 1:20Speaker 1: to be in that place, I feel.
- 1:23Speaker 2: For them, man. But not too much. I don't.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Couldn't relate.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Couldn't relate, Colts. Wouldn't be me. All right, let's get
- 1:30Speaker 2: right into this game, what had happened. See, what had
- 1:33Speaker 2: happened was. What had happened at first was. What had
- 1:36Speaker 2: happened was. On Hawk Talk.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Cardinals got the ball. First, going eight yards, three plays,
- 1:42Speaker 1: punting that thing away. Seahawks get the ball, two plays in,
- 1:46Speaker 1: bump Drew Locke, finding Jackson Smith and Jigba for an
- 1:48Speaker 1: 82-yard touchdown, the longest play of his career. Nasty double move.
- 1:53Speaker 1: We'll break that down a little bit later, but that
- 1:55Speaker 1: made the score 7-0, and really good start for the Seahawks.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah, great start for the Seahawks.
- 2:00Speaker 4: And then the next few drives with in and punts
- 2:02Speaker 4: before the Cardinals got their only productive drive of the game.
- 2:04Speaker 4: They go 12 plays, 61 yards with a two-yard touchdown
- 2:08Speaker 4: as Jacoby Brissett found Trey McBride. That tied the score
- 2:11Speaker 4: at 7-1. disaster would strike for the Seahawks on the
- 2:14Speaker 4: next drive as Jadarian Price was stripped fighting for more yards.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Can't blame the kid for fighting for more yards.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Luckily, the Seahawks' defense stepped up and stopped the Cardinals
- 2:22Speaker 4: on the following drive, so didn't get any points off
- 2:25Speaker 4: of that.
- 2:25Speaker 1: No, and what I love about Price, though, yeah, he
- 2:28Speaker 1: fumbled that, but on that next drive, he was running angry,
- 2:30Speaker 1: absolutely embarrassed the safety for the Cardinals, so he got
- 2:33Speaker 1: that fixed quickly.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Sat him down.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yes, he did.
- 2:36Speaker 5: Whew.
- 2:37Speaker 1: The next two drives would end in punts, and the
- 2:39Speaker 1: Seahawks would put a small drive together, get into the Cardinals'
- 2:42Speaker 1: one-yard line. Unfortunately, Manuel Wilson got stopped on fourth and goal.
- 2:45Speaker 1: They'd walk away with no points there. The next two
- 2:48Speaker 1: drives would also result in no points, and the teams
- 2:49Speaker 1: would head into the locker room tied at seven. But
- 2:52Speaker 1: the second half was all Seahawks.
- 2:54Speaker 3: All Seahawks, man. They got things going.
- 2:56Speaker 4: The first drive, going 37 yards on just four plays,
- 2:59Speaker 4: and Drew Locke connected with Jason for his second touchdown
- 3:01Speaker 4: of the night. That made the score 14-7. The next possession,
- 3:05Speaker 4: Jay Love picked off Jacoby Brissett, which set up a
- 3:08Speaker 4: Jason Myers field goal.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Three games in a row if you go back to
- 3:11Speaker 3: the Super Bowl. J-Lo has an interception.
- 3:13Speaker 1: We'll talk about him in Playmakers, but he's easily one
- 3:16Speaker 1: of the most underrated players in the National Football League.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Maybe because he's nice, unless you're talking Puginacool, but everyone
- 3:21Speaker 1: else thinks he's a nice dude because he is, but
- 3:23Speaker 1: he is playing at an incredibly high level right now, Bo.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:26Speaker 4: The Hawks will get another stop, and the offense will
- 3:28Speaker 4: put together another really solid drive. Tim plays 80 yards
- 3:31Speaker 4: in it with a touchdown pass to who? jsn down
- 3:34Speaker 4: the red zone looking good man both of those touchdowns
- 3:37Speaker 4: minus 82 yarder right the other two all in man
- 3:41Speaker 4: are you gonna man them up down there good luck
- 3:43Speaker 4: to you and uh drew locked his flicking his wrist
- 3:46Speaker 4: and find a number 11 easy money.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah i mean carters go out next possession they go
- 3:50Speaker 1: through and out games over nail in the coffin but
- 3:53Speaker 1: what anyone who loves you know big ray roberts guys
- 3:55Speaker 1: like that will love this the way the seahawks finished
- 3:57Speaker 1: that game oh yeah 16 plays 70 yards, bump, they
- 4:02Speaker 1: ran the ball 15 of those times.
- 4:03Speaker 3: 15 times.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I mean, you want to talk about demoralizing against your will,
- 4:08Speaker 1: moving people, finishing it with a barnyard, and that's how
- 4:11Speaker 1: you do it. The Seahawks, how Mike McDonald and this
- 4:14Speaker 1: team want to play football is on full display in
- 4:16Speaker 1: that second half. The Seahawks are playing historically good football.
- 4:19Speaker 2: How good? Let's talk about Sunday.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Two sacks, seven QB hits, five TFLs, one interception, four
- 4:24Speaker 1: passes defended, allowed just 151 yards. But, Bump, this is
- 4:28Speaker 1: the one that I still can't get my brain around. Cardinals,
- 4:32Speaker 1: one explosive play. Okay, that was Bam Knight, 18-yard run
- 4:35Speaker 1: on the second-to-last play of the game. Through two games
- 4:37Speaker 1: this season, the Seahawks have not allowed a play over
- 4:40Speaker 1: 20 yards.
- 4:41Speaker 2: That's insane. Crazy.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Crazy dominance, man. And I wish they didn't get that
- 4:45Speaker 4: little 18-yarder, but it is what it is. But this
- 4:47Speaker 4: defense has been on point. Sunday was the first time
- 4:49Speaker 4: the Cardinals did not complete a pass over 10 yards
- 4:53Speaker 4: since October 11, 1987. You weren't born. I was barely walking.
- 4:58Speaker 4: That's how long that was, man. And that's dominance. And
- 5:02Speaker 4: you're coming off a week where Jacoby Brissett looked good.
- 5:04Speaker 4: He's completing the underneath stuff and getting that yak and
- 5:07Speaker 4: all that stuff. But, no, man, this defense really sets
- 5:10Speaker 4: the tone. There was a play where I think Spoon
- 5:12Speaker 4: made the tackle, but as soon as he got there,
- 5:14Speaker 4: D-Law was there. And I think J-Love was there. You
- 5:17Speaker 4: get the football, they are on your you-know-what.
- 5:20Speaker 1: If you don't let a team in the National Football
- 5:22Speaker 1: League complete a pass for over 10 yards, two things
- 5:24Speaker 1: are true, right? You're rock solid behind in the secondary,
- 5:28Speaker 1: in coverage. You're not letting anyone get behind you. And
- 5:30Speaker 1: then on top of that, you are getting to the football.
- 5:33Speaker 1: That means no one's breaking a tackle for 10 or 15.
- 5:36Speaker 1: You're playing good football, getting north-south, and it's unreal, man.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And on top of that, let's talk a little next-gen
- 5:41Speaker 1: stats here. The Seahawks' defense now ranks against downfield throws.
- 5:45Speaker 1: They're only allowing 25% completion rate. That's first in the NFL.
- 5:49Speaker 1: 22 passing yards per game downfield. That's first in the NFL.
- 5:53Speaker 1: 3.7 yards per attempt downfield. First in the NFL. Zero
- 5:56Speaker 1: touchdowns allowed. First in the NFL. Four interceptions on downfield throws.
- 6:00Speaker 1: First in the NFL. 2.8 passer rating. First in the NFL.
- 6:04Speaker 1: They're shutting it down. And the crazy thing about all
- 6:07Speaker 1: that is you're missing a starter. You're still missing Ty Okada.
- 6:10Speaker 1: You're still not fully, you know, at full strength but
- 6:14Speaker 1: rodney thomas balling out i mean the entire secondary um
- 6:17Speaker 1: they're playing well everyone's playing well everyone on this team
- 6:20Speaker 1: wearing a seahawks uniform is playing well bump coming out
- 6:22Speaker 1: of the game what did you learn the most out
- 6:24Speaker 1: of sunday.
- 6:25Speaker 4: I learned that our offensive coordinator is learning to make
- 6:29Speaker 4: adjustments seven to seven and a half then you come
- 6:32Speaker 4: out and it is on he's figuring out who his
- 6:34Speaker 4: personnel is how how he can use other guys jason 155, he.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Should get the love. I get that.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Rasheed Shaheed still had a catch of 22 yards. Arroyo
- 6:42Speaker 4: had a catch of 18 yards. Cooper Cupp had a
- 6:44Speaker 4: catch of 16 yards. So, yes, Jason led the charge.
- 6:48Speaker 3: He should. He's the number one guy. He should do
- 6:49Speaker 3: it every single week.
- 6:50Speaker 4: But he still found a way to sprinkle in those
- 6:52Speaker 4: other guys. And then Emmanuel Wilson with 90-plus yards. It
- 6:55Speaker 4: was a balanced attack. Still waiting for the tight ends
- 6:57Speaker 4: to get involved a bit more. Barner did have the barnyard. But, no,
- 7:02Speaker 4: the OC is starting to figure out who's who and
- 7:04Speaker 4: how to use them.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think, for me, it's just, Continuing, Coach
- 7:08Speaker 1: McDonald consistently talks about stacking plays, one play after another.
- 7:12Speaker 1: It felt like, I think because we're used to this
- 7:16Speaker 1: team being so dominant, early in that game, we're like, oh, man,
- 7:19Speaker 1: we're in for a dogfight.
- 7:19Speaker 2: These Cardinals are moving the ball. They're doing this. And
- 7:22Speaker 2: then you look at the stats, and you go, man,
- 7:23Speaker 2: I thought Trey McBride was going off.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And then you look back, and you go, yeah, he
- 7:26Speaker 1: had eight receptions, but for like 40 yards.
- 7:28Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 7:29Speaker 1: So it's just like, again, they're just consistent at each level.
- 7:32Speaker 1: The defense doesn't matter who it is, Drake Thomas. insert
- 7:35Speaker 1: whoever they're making plays for this defense. So I love
- 7:37Speaker 1: what we're seeing there. Speaking of this defense and this team,
- 7:40Speaker 1: everyone making plays all over time to get into playmakers.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Touchdown!
- 7:46Speaker 1: Seahawks!
- 7:47Speaker 2: Playmakers. Show them what time it is!
- 7:52Speaker 4: Holy catfish!
- 7:54Speaker 1: Starting with our guy, quarterback number two on your programs,
- 7:58Speaker 1: number one in your hearts this week, Drew Locke, 19-26, 235.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Three touchdowns, zero interceptions. Sacked just the one time. QB
- 8:07Speaker 1: rating of 139.1. Might have been a perfect rating if
- 8:09Speaker 1: it wasn't for a couple drops. Clutch throws in the
- 8:12Speaker 1: second half.
- 8:12Speaker 3: How crazy was that?
- 8:13Speaker 2: It would have fooled me. I just don't believe it. But,
- 8:17Speaker 2: I mean, literally, he's just a gamer.
- 8:19Speaker 1: We understand why he's on this team, of course, because
- 8:22Speaker 1: Drew Lockett has starting quarterback skills, right? That's why he
- 8:26Speaker 1: was known as the best backup in the league. We're
- 8:28Speaker 1: seeing a lot of other backups playing right now, Bump,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and they don't look like Drew Lockett.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Ask people in Atlanta. Ask people.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I'm telling you, they don't look like Drew. Drew is
- 8:37Speaker 1: the man for a reason. I love his confidence. We're
- 8:40Speaker 1: going to talk about this when we break down some
- 8:41Speaker 1: of these plays, but he's not playing in a game
- 8:44Speaker 1: manager way. He's playing in a game manager way when
- 8:47Speaker 1: it comes to taking care of the football, but he's
- 8:49Speaker 1: making throws that if he's not on point, those balls
- 8:51Speaker 1: are getting batted down or intercepted. He's playing with confidence,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and I love what we're seeing.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Now, Drew Locke, smooth and calm back there.
- 8:58Speaker 4: There are times where there's one, I think it was
- 9:01Speaker 4: JSN's second touchdown, Second or third.
- 9:05Speaker 3: They send a lot of pressure on the left side.
- 9:07Speaker 3: You're outnumbered.
- 9:08Speaker 4: You don't have enough to block everybody. He knows I'm
- 9:10Speaker 4: responsible for one of these guys. I'm going to get
- 9:12Speaker 4: hit or I have to stand there to throw the football.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Backpedal a little bit. Flick the wrist. Cool his head
- 9:17Speaker 4: and lets the ball go. I just love his poise, man.
- 9:20Speaker 4: He looks really good.
- 9:21Speaker 3: We got Jackson Smith and Jigba. Nine catches.
- 9:24Speaker 4: 155 yards on 11 targets. Three touchdowns with that 155.
- 9:30Speaker 4: He is now third in franchise history for most receiving
- 9:33Speaker 4: yards in a player's first four seasons. He set his
- 9:36Speaker 4: career high with three receiving touchdowns and became the first
- 9:39Speaker 4: Seahawks player with three since DK Metcalf in 2023. Fourth
- 9:43Speaker 4: time Jason has had multiple touchdowns in one game. Jason
- 9:48Speaker 4: is the second player in NFL history to record each
- 9:51Speaker 4: of his team's first four touchdowns of the season. Jason
- 9:54Speaker 4: is now the fifth wide receiver ever.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I mean, come on. come on.
- 9:58Speaker 4: He's the fifth wide receiver ever with at least eight catches,
- 10:01Speaker 4: 120 receiving yards, and a touchdown reception in each of
- 10:04Speaker 4: his team's first two games, joining Diggs, of course, at Buffalo,
- 10:07Speaker 4: Antonio Brown with Pittsburgh. You got Charlie Hennigan in 1962
- 10:13Speaker 4: with the Oilers, and Andre Risen, TLC, in 1994 with Atlanta.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Through two weeks, he leads the NFL in yards and touchdowns.
- 10:23Speaker 4: He's third in reception.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I mean.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I mean, my guys just.
- 10:28Speaker 1: You can keep going. There's more stuff out there. That's
- 10:30Speaker 1: just like a quick little search on the Internet. You'll
- 10:32Speaker 1: find all those numbers on Jason.
- 10:34Speaker 2: He is. A little teaser.
- 10:37Speaker 1: This is I'm thinking about this bump when we if
- 10:39Speaker 1: you guys for those of you subscribe to Hawks live,
- 10:41Speaker 1: listen to that.
- 10:42Speaker 2: We're gonna have a great guest this week. Every Thursday,
- 10:44Speaker 2: the Bellevue Square.
- 10:45Speaker 3: But.
- 10:45Speaker 2: We always do talk that talk, right? Where we debate,
- 10:48Speaker 2: you know, you guys, you and Paul go back and forth.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 1: The question of where JSN is going to be in
- 10:53Speaker 1: the history of this franchise. Steve Largen is the goat.
- 10:55Speaker 2: We know that. Are you kidding me? Hall of Famer.
- 10:57Speaker 1: One best to ever do it in the history of
- 10:58Speaker 1: the NFL. JSN is on a trajectory that is unbelievable.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And he does it. It just, it all looks different.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Every great receiver in this building has looked a little
- 11:08Speaker 1: bit different, but he is, again, it's early on, but
- 11:13Speaker 1: I'm telling you, he, is playing at.
- 11:15Speaker 2: A gold jacket level.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And if we just take a snapshot of two games
- 11:20Speaker 1: this year, count the playoffs, 22 games, we're looking at
- 11:25Speaker 1: the best receiver to put on a Seahawks uniform if
- 11:28Speaker 1: I'm only looking at 20 games.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I'm just saying.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Hey, all facts. No gas, all facts, man.
- 11:35Speaker 4: And what's cool about the receiver situation here, Largent, the GOAT,
- 11:41Speaker 4: JSN on his way.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Both guys are under six foot. Get her done. My
- 11:47Speaker 3: under six footers.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Hey, come on. I see you, bub.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I see you, bub. All right, next up, we got
- 11:51Speaker 3: Emmanuel Wilson and Jadarian Price.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Wilson led all ball carries with 91 yards on 21 carries.
- 11:57Speaker 4: He did most of his damage in the second half.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Price and Halani were both dealing with separate injuries. So
- 12:01Speaker 4: it was a nice welcome to Seattle. Price had a
- 12:04Speaker 4: decent day. Yeah, 53 yards and 13 carries. He lost
- 12:07Speaker 4: a fumble, but he was running hard, man. He ran
- 12:09Speaker 4: all over the Cardinal safety, ran him over, lowered that shoulder,
- 12:12Speaker 4: set him down, The messed up part about that play,
- 12:14Speaker 4: they kept showing in the slow motion.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Like, good for us, but a boy got sat down.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Fox was on it. They had every angle of that thing.
- 12:22Speaker 3: The Hawks had 162 rushing yards on 40 carries. Productive
- 12:25Speaker 3: day on the ground. Yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I mean, that's exactly what you want to see. Coach
- 12:28Speaker 1: John Benton off the line. Coach getting the game ball
- 12:30Speaker 1: at the end of the game. But it's really cool
- 12:31Speaker 1: to see that unit, that offensive line is so together.
- 12:34Speaker 1: And I'm excited for Emmanuel.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Because he done stuff in this league. People forget that
- 12:39Speaker 1: coming in here. He has had some success already. Now
- 12:41Speaker 1: you couple that with Price being here and then Charbonnet
- 12:44Speaker 1: is going to come back. I'm really excited for this
- 12:47Speaker 1: run game and especially this run game where it looks
- 12:49Speaker 1: today versus where it looked two or three weeks into
- 12:52Speaker 1: last season. Seahawks won a Super Bowl last season, so
- 12:54Speaker 1: they obviously got it figured out. Really got their stride
- 12:57Speaker 1: at the end of last season. If they look this
- 12:59Speaker 1: good in week two, you know, good things can happen
- 13:01Speaker 1: for the Seahawks team.
- 13:02Speaker 2: So I'm excited about that.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Flipping it over defense, Julian Love, man. Three tackles, two
- 13:07Speaker 1: pass defender, one interception. He's just a general back there, man.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I mentioned he's the most underrated person in the league.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I think Richard Sherman's been on record talking about how
- 13:14Speaker 1: good he is. Mike McDonald, everyone. And he's just consistent, man.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Last year was the first year he'd ever really been
- 13:21Speaker 1: hurt ever in his career, really in his life. When
- 13:23Speaker 1: he talks about he's just so Mr. Consistent and is
- 13:25Speaker 1: always there showing up. So love what we saw from him.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And we're continuing to see it from him. And he's
- 13:30Speaker 1: playing at an all-pro level and really anchoring things in
- 13:33Speaker 1: a group where people are really concerned because Nicky Minoru
- 13:35Speaker 1: is just coming back. You're missing Ty Okada. Like, what's
- 13:37Speaker 1: going to happen at the third corner spot? All we've
- 13:39Speaker 1: done is seen the defensive backs really solidify what's.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Going on in the back end. Yeah, J-Love just everywhere, man.
- 13:45Speaker 4: He's got true range when he talks about freelancing back there.
- 13:49Speaker 3: So keep up the good work, J-Love.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Also, we got Leonard Williams, six tackles, two TFLs, one sack,
- 13:54Speaker 4: one quarterback hit. Expect nothing less from the All-Pro.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah, no, he's going to be hopefully all those dudes
- 14:00Speaker 1: in the All-Pro again. And we'll finish it off with
- 14:02Speaker 1: Devin Witherspoon, eight tackles, one tackle for loss. He's a
- 14:06Speaker 1: dude when any time he, I think you said it,
- 14:08Speaker 1: during the pregame show this past weekend, he's the best
- 14:13Speaker 1: blitzing guy in the secondary in the NFL. And when
- 14:16Speaker 1: he decides to pull the trigger, it is right now.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And he doesn't miss tackles, though. It's easy to blitz
- 14:22Speaker 1: and run and just be like, okay, well, I can
- 14:24Speaker 1: get him to where my other guys are. You're going
- 14:25Speaker 1: to miss a tackle here and there.
- 14:27Speaker 2: No.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Devin Witherspoon does not miss tackles.
- 14:29Speaker 2: If he blitzes and he's getting you, that's it. You're down.
- 14:32Speaker 2: You're done. So good to see that there.
- 14:34Speaker 5: Bump.
- 14:34Speaker 2: We can quickly go through this.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Wide receiver roundup looked a lot to what it looked
- 14:38Speaker 1: like last week.
- 14:39Speaker 4: A little bit of the same. You got Jason with
- 14:42Speaker 4: a buck 55 and three touchdowns. Rashid Shaheed at three receptions,
- 14:45Speaker 4: 35 cup at two for 20. Elijah Royal had one
- 14:48Speaker 4: for 17. Barnett had one for eight. Price had one
- 14:50Speaker 4: for eight. Helani had one for two. Collectively, 235 through
- 14:54Speaker 4: the air along of 82. That's that long touchdown from Jason. Listen,
- 14:59Speaker 4: he should get 11 targets again until someone figures out
- 15:02Speaker 4: how to slow this man down. I expect these type
- 15:05Speaker 4: of numbers every week now, which isn't fair, but it
- 15:07Speaker 4: is at the same time because he's done nothing but
- 15:09Speaker 4: show us that he's capable of doing it.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and if it continues to work, I'm throwing a
- 15:13Speaker 1: number 11, which is a great transition and segue here
- 15:16Speaker 1: as we get to the place of the game.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Started off early.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Drew Locke hooking up with Jackson Smith and Jigba for
- 15:21Speaker 1: an 82-yard touchdown.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Inside of JSN, Locke out of the shotgun. Drops back
- 15:27Speaker 3: to pass.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Looks has all day. Going to throw down the field.
- 15:30Speaker 5: He's got him at GSM.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Wide open. 45, 40, 30, 20. Chasing him.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Can't catch him.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Into the end zone.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Touchdown Seahawks.
- 15:42Speaker 5: Holy catfish. Jackson, Smith, and Jimba just ran right past.
- 15:49Speaker 5: Right past the defense of Arizona. I don't know what
- 15:53Speaker 5: they were thinking, but he goes 82 yards for a touchdown.
- 15:58Speaker 5: Down the right sideline. I think Drew looked up and said, oh,
- 16:02Speaker 5: my word. This guy's wide open. All he has to
- 16:05Speaker 5: do is get it to him. And he does.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Yeah, this right here is in a two by two formation. Essentially,
- 16:11Speaker 4: you got a Royal and Jason to the right of
- 16:14Speaker 4: Drew Locke. You got who's our time? Is that A.J.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Barnum?
- 16:19Speaker 4: And Rasheed Shaheed at the top, right? This is a cover, too.
- 16:24Speaker 4: I tried to figure out, I went back and I
- 16:26Speaker 4: looked at all the past plays from last week against
- 16:30Speaker 4: New England. I told myself, is there something on film
- 16:33Speaker 4: that made Buda Baker want to jump this? Did we
- 16:35Speaker 4: run a concept similar to this that made Buda Baker
- 16:38Speaker 4: want to jump it?
- 16:39Speaker 3: I saw none. Did I miss it?
- 16:41Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 16:42Speaker 4: But I saw no double outs like we're seeing, essentially,
- 16:45Speaker 4: between Arroyo and Jason. to make him want to jump this.
- 16:49Speaker 4: So what happens is you got Arroyo who's in a slot.
- 16:51Speaker 3: He runs an out.
- 16:52Speaker 4: You got JSM who runs a double move. I think
- 16:55Speaker 4: that if that corner was off a bit more, he
- 16:57Speaker 4: probably would have sold the out a bit more, but
- 16:59Speaker 4: because he jumped up and got outside of him, he
- 17:00Speaker 4: kind of one-stepped the out and then got skinny. Buda Baker,
- 17:05Speaker 4: who's supposed to have deep halves, I'm convinced, he's supposed
- 17:08Speaker 4: to have deep halves, just bites on him. I don't
- 17:10Speaker 4: know if he's looking at Arroyo or he's looking at JSM.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Either way, the action of those two makes Buda Baker
- 17:16Speaker 4: bite down So all Jason has to do is turn
- 17:19Speaker 4: the shoulders, get a field, Drew Locke, double pad it,
- 17:21Speaker 4: throw it up there, 82-yard touchdown, strike up the bend.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you too, Bump, especially Buda Baker, such
- 17:27Speaker 2: a good player.
- 17:28Speaker 1: We know, obviously, Bellevue High School, University of Washington, got
- 17:30Speaker 1: a lot of love for Buda Baker from being out here.
- 17:33Speaker 2: But, yeah, I don't understand it either.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Looks like he's in cover two there, especially judging by
- 17:37Speaker 1: how everyone else is playing, what it looks like on
- 17:39Speaker 1: the other side of the field. The only thing that
- 17:41Speaker 1: I can think of, what I saw, is I feel
- 17:42Speaker 1: like he was reading Drew Locke. And Drew does enough
- 17:45Speaker 1: subtleness to kind of Not a bit.
- 17:47Speaker 2: He doesn't pump fake. He doesn't rip the arm out.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Give him a little something, though.
- 17:49Speaker 1: But he gives him a little bit looking at Arroyo,
- 17:51Speaker 1: and he just, second play of the game was just bizarre.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Maybe he thought Drew Locke, you know, first game in,
- 17:57Speaker 1: they're trying to get the ball out quick or something.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure. But he jumps it, and then
- 18:02Speaker 1: it's called, you know, the O read when you realize
- 18:06Speaker 1: you take a step and you go, oh, no.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:07Speaker 2: This is coming to me, and it's over my head.
- 18:09Speaker 1: But, yeah, it's a great, great head pick by JSN,
- 18:12Speaker 1: but it's all in, you know, it looks like just
- 18:14Speaker 1: a big bust in the secondary.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Doesn't matter because he made the play and then outran
- 18:18Speaker 1: him to the end zone, Jason, doing what Jason does. And, again,
- 18:21Speaker 1: other things too, Bump, I've heard you talk about this.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Sometimes those are the hardest plays to make when it's
- 18:26Speaker 1: that wide open.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Wide open.
- 18:28Speaker 1: You know, Drew Locke could have easily overthrown him. Jason
- 18:30Speaker 1: easily could have hit his shoulder pads.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yeah. But he made the play.
- 18:34Speaker 4: It wasn't the cleanest catch, but he made it happen.
- 18:36Speaker 4: He hit his face mask or pads a little bit, but,
- 18:39Speaker 4: you know, he's all right.
- 18:39Speaker 3: He's good to go.
- 18:40Speaker 2: That's Jason.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Best in the game.
- 18:41Speaker 1: And we're going to stick with the best in the
- 18:43Speaker 1: game because I thought it would be fair with this day.
- 18:46Speaker 1: career high in touchdowns, three touchdowns. We're going to look
- 18:48Speaker 1: at his third and final touchdown of the day as
- 18:50Speaker 1: he hooked up with Drew Locke for a 12-yard touchdown.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Locke.
- 18:54Speaker 5: From the shotgun, four-man rush. Looks, throws to the back
- 18:58Speaker 5: of the end zone.
- 18:58Speaker 2: It's caught.
- 19:00Speaker 5: Touchdown, Seahawks. Guess who? I'll give you a hint. It
- 19:06Speaker 5: starts with JSN from 12 yards and an absolute laser
- 19:13Speaker 5: to Jax in the back of the end zone. His
- 19:16Speaker 5: third touchdown of the game.
- 19:19Speaker 4: So you got an empty formation, three receivers to the right.
- 19:23Speaker 4: You got Jason as the number three receiver closest to
- 19:26Speaker 4: the right tackle over there. Two receivers down to the bottom.
- 19:29Speaker 4: This is man right here. They're going to send four.
- 19:31Speaker 4: They're going to drop seven.
- 19:32Speaker 3: All right. So you got five guys covering five. You
- 19:35Speaker 3: got two.
- 19:35Speaker 4: We get to float a little bit in the middle
- 19:36Speaker 4: of the field. So essentially, Jason is one on one
- 19:39Speaker 4: with Buda Baker. Buda's playing the safety spot about eight
- 19:42Speaker 4: yards off of him.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Already dangerous.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Right.
- 19:44Speaker 4: But that's why you put him in the slot right there,
- 19:45Speaker 4: because you're not going to tell your safety to walk
- 19:48Speaker 4: down and be tight because in that back. in that corner,
- 19:50Speaker 4: things get mixed up, you guys run into each other,
- 19:52Speaker 4: not going to do it. So he's got to play
- 19:53Speaker 4: him from depth. Jason knows he's going to attack the
- 19:56Speaker 4: middle of the field. So he gets vertical about four yards,
- 19:59Speaker 4: and what does he start to do? He starts to
- 20:01Speaker 4: lean Buda Baker to the outside, right? Jason's right shoulder,
- 20:04Speaker 4: Buda Baker's left shoulder. Once he gets that one step
- 20:07Speaker 4: to the outside, now he snaps it vertical, running like
- 20:10Speaker 4: a post or a bang, whatever you want to call it.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Gets Buda Baker to his back, and Drew Locke just
- 20:14Speaker 4: stands in there and delivers. And the pocket is collapsing
- 20:16Speaker 4: around Drew Locke. He can't really step into his throw
- 20:19Speaker 4: a bit like he wants to, but he does exactly that. One-on-one,
- 20:24Speaker 4: good versus good. Jason moves him, snaps it off. Drew
- 20:28Speaker 4: Locke with a great throw.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I mean, again, Jason is an amazing route runner. For one,
- 20:34Speaker 2: there's two things here.
- 20:35Speaker 1: One, Okay, I don't really want to be pressing JSN either,
- 20:40Speaker 1: but playing JSN from depth is a nightmare.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Nightmare.
- 20:43Speaker 1: As a safety in the slot, and you have all
- 20:46Speaker 1: of this field, good luck. Because you know, obviously it's
- 20:50Speaker 1: Fleury now, whether it's Kubiak, they're going to do stuff
- 20:52Speaker 1: to already help him get open, not that he needs it.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And then he stems him a little bit, and Baker tries,
- 20:58Speaker 1: he kind of veers over the top, and then it's
- 21:00Speaker 1: just that one step. It's not like, Buda fell down,
- 21:03Speaker 1: but it's just subtle enough because everything we learned in
- 21:06Speaker 1: hard knocks, everything from JSN looks the same in terms
- 21:09Speaker 1: of his level base of gravity. And he stems him here,
- 21:11Speaker 1: puts his foot in the ground. And then drew lock
- 21:13Speaker 1: perfect throw because it's cut. The linebacker gets a nice
- 21:16Speaker 1: little drop. So drew has to get it over the linebacker,
- 21:19Speaker 1: but in front of the safety dots, the T's cross
- 21:21Speaker 1: the eyes as a touchdown for the CEO. So you
- 21:23Speaker 1: say play the band and we are going. Seahawks win it.
- 21:27Speaker 1: 31 to seven. It's our favorite formation.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Victory formation.
- 21:33Speaker 5: Here comes the Seahawks offense onto the field and the
- 21:36Speaker 5: Vikings defense trudging out there, knowing that one kneel down
- 21:42Speaker 5: and the Seahawks are going to wind the clock down.
- 21:44Speaker 2: And win this one. It's the victory formation on Hawk Talk.
- 21:48Speaker 1: It was a domination Seahawks defense playing at an unbelievable
- 21:51Speaker 1: level right now. Not allowing a completion of 10 yards
- 21:55Speaker 1: in an NFL game is insane. That's hard to do
- 21:57Speaker 1: in high school, college, any level of college. That's hard
- 22:00Speaker 1: to do in practice, let alone in a game when
- 22:03Speaker 1: a team is getting paid to play said game.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Just an unreal stat.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Holding them at 151 yards, not allowing a play of
- 22:09Speaker 1: 20 or more yards in two games is insane. Coach
- 22:11Speaker 1: McDonald has those guys dialed up right now.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Dialed in.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Also, you held Trey McBride to only 41 yards.
- 22:18Speaker 3: That's impressive.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Two games before that, you got like a buck 79
- 22:21Speaker 4: combined in a touchdown. Not so fast this time. Coach
- 22:24Speaker 4: McDonald is 16-2 on the road. And J-Love is playing
- 22:29Speaker 4: like an all-pro. Give him some love.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 2: No, I mean, it's 16-2. 16-2. Yeah, that's crazy. Man,
- 22:35Speaker 2: that's hard to do.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And, again, have any level of appreciation because in the yesteryear,
- 22:41Speaker 1: the Seahawks couldn't win on the road. I was obviously
- 22:43Speaker 1: prior to Pete Carroll and all that stuff. But, like,
- 22:45Speaker 1: to be that dominant, that is hard. And those two losses,
- 22:48Speaker 1: they're right in them. So it's pretty insane. And then, obviously,
- 22:52Speaker 1: Sam Darnold. No Sam, no problem. Can't wait until he's back.
- 22:55Speaker 1: But it's just the confidence in what Drew was able
- 22:57Speaker 1: to do. He had a full 10 days to prepare
- 22:59Speaker 1: for that football game. Got to show you why the
- 23:01Speaker 1: Seahawks wanted him back. Because he can handle pressure. He
- 23:05Speaker 1: knew what he was supposed to do. He took care
- 23:07Speaker 1: of the football, which he said he was going to
- 23:08Speaker 1: do before the game. And he was going to get
- 23:10Speaker 1: the ball to those playmakers, which he said he was
- 23:11Speaker 1: going to do before the game. Finds Jason, three touchdowns.
- 23:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:15Speaker 4: And Jason, speaking of him, continues to show why he's
- 23:17Speaker 4: the best receiver in all the land. And you know what?
- 23:21Speaker 4: You got some good running back play. Emmanuel Wilson, Price
- 23:24Speaker 4: looked good. The Hawks improved to 2-0, and you got
- 23:27Speaker 4: to go East Coast. Now, East Coast trip to D.C.
- 23:29Speaker 4: to take on the Commanders. No Jaden Daniels this time.
- 23:32Speaker 5: No.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Yeah, similar.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I mean, the Seahawks were beating them pretty badly. I
- 23:35Speaker 1: think it was 31-7 or 38-7 before Daniels got hurt
- 23:39Speaker 1: the last time.
- 23:39Speaker 2: So it'll be interesting.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Obviously, Marcus Mariota is going to be starting for them,
- 23:43Speaker 1: and they have some weapons as well. But I like
- 23:46Speaker 1: the Seahawks' chances. We'll get you guys prepared and ready
- 23:49Speaker 1: for that on Thursday. The Seahawks, though, took care of
- 23:52Speaker 1: business being the Arizona Cardinals 31-7. Always good to win
- 23:55Speaker 1: a game in the NFC West. Seahawks improved the 2-0,
- 23:58Speaker 1: so it should be fun. Appreciate you guys listening or watching.
- 24:01Speaker 1: You can make sure to listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify,

- 24:08Speaker 1: you can do.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Listen to us.
- 24:09Speaker 1: We appreciate that. He's Michael Bumpus. I'm Nassif Chobi. This
- 24:12Speaker 1: has been Hawk Talk.
