- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, Gina, I didn't cross-check this with you. Oh, okay.
- 0:03Speaker 1: But I would assume this is from the same person. Okay.
- 0:08Speaker 1: You got this email picture a week ago or so,
- 0:12Speaker 1: I think, right?
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's when you were gone.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And it's face-off, like the movie Face-Off. And it juxtaposes
- 0:22Speaker 1: Gina Barberi with Catherine Zeta-Jones. Because there's been a feud.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Catherine Zeta-Jones is unaware of this.
- 0:29Speaker 4: And it's a minor feud.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And Gina is at war with Catherine Zeta-Jones. She disputes
- 0:36Speaker 1: her age.
- 0:38Speaker 2: By a year or two. It's not a big dispute.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Now, do you remember who sent it to you?
- 0:44Speaker 2: It's Bizarro Matt Damon.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Well, I got, oh yeah, that's the same, yeah, same guy.
- 0:51Speaker 1: He's done one for me, a face-off.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Oh, he has.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Me and Michael Douglas.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Now, do you have a beef with Michael Douglas?
- 1:01Speaker 1: No, no. I don't, actually.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Maybe you need to start one.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Although I wish I still looked like I did in
- 1:08Speaker 1: that picture because I was much younger in that picture.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's not.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Actually, that's not a fair face-off, because you guys, that's
- 1:18Speaker 4: old Michael Douglas. He should have done it with, like,
- 1:21Speaker 4: romancing the Stone Age Michael Douglas.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah, instead of roomy-eyed. And I heard poor Michael Douglas
- 1:30Speaker 1: being interviewed. Now, he's still sharp, but his voice is
- 1:38Speaker 1: not good.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Well, he had throat cancer.
- 1:40Speaker 1: And he has a lot of problems, you can tell, speaking.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Don't feel bad for Michael Douglas. He's a jerk.
- 1:51Speaker 1: As is.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Well... We did a lot of Michael Douglas heavy reporting
- 1:56Speaker 2: while you were gone. Yeah, while you were gone. Because that...
- 1:59Speaker 2: He's got a book out. That memoir came out.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Right, that's what I heard him being interviewed about.
- 2:02Speaker 2: And part of that was... So Michael Douglas.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Had a lot of drug problems of his own.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I mean, he admits being a jerk in this book. Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 1: A lot of jerky behavior.
- 2:12Speaker 2: But his son, Cameron.
- 2:15Speaker 4: had a lot of drug problems and went to jail
- 2:21Speaker 4: and went to rehab. And at rehab, oftentimes they will
- 2:24Speaker 4: do family therapy.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Like we're going to have everybody come in and we're
- 2:29Speaker 2: going to talk about this.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I've been there.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And, and Michael Douglas refused to go.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 2: And he said, because I have a wife.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Well, I'm, I would rather be doing other things. I
- 2:43Speaker 4: think everybody would rather be doing other things.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, we'd all rather be doing something else.
- 2:46Speaker 2: He refused to go.
- 2:48Speaker 1: He told a fascinating story from the book about when
- 2:52Speaker 1: he first got, you know, his father, Kirk Douglas, said
- 2:56Speaker 1: to him, here's $ 10, 000. You're on your own. I'm not
- 3:03Speaker 1: giving you any more money. $ 10, 000. Take that. See if
- 3:07Speaker 1: you can parlay that into something. And he gave me
- 3:10Speaker 1: these two really nice Italian leather suitcases.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Wow.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I mean, just beautiful suitcases. And they were perfect for
- 3:18Speaker 1: holding several kilos of marijuana.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Wow. The right size.
- 3:23Speaker 1: He would go to Mexico and get the marijuana and
- 3:26Speaker 1: then sell it. And the interviewer said, so you were
- 3:31Speaker 1: a drug dealer? Yeah, I was a drug dealer for
- 3:33Speaker 1: quite some time. And I made a pretty good living
- 3:35Speaker 1: doing that. But then I got into it. Show business.
- 3:41Speaker 1: He's had a remarkable career when you think about it.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Interesting story I heard him tell that I did not know.
- 3:50Speaker 4: So One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was a book.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And his dad owned the rights to it.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Well, that's what I was going to say.
- 3:58Speaker 4: His dad, Kirk Douglas, for years tried to get that made,
- 4:04Speaker 4: and he wanted to play the Jack Nicholson role in that.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Nick Murphy.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Could not get it made, and so Michael Douglas said, Dad,
- 4:15Speaker 4: can I take a pass at it? Can I shop
- 4:18Speaker 4: it around and see if I can get it? And somehow,
- 4:21Speaker 4: he was able to convince a studio to do it,
- 4:25Speaker 4: but the studio said, we don't want your dad.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Well, he was too old.
- 4:29Speaker 2: He was too old, but they still said.
- 4:34Speaker 2: And he said, I had to call my dad and say,
- 4:37Speaker 2: good news, bad news.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Sold the rights.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Sold the rights.
- 4:40Speaker 4: I'm making it, but you can't be in it.
- 4:42Speaker 1: They don't want you.
- 4:43Speaker 2: And he said, you know, his dad was hurt, obviously.
- 4:47Speaker 4: But after he saw the finished product, he was like,
- 4:52Speaker 4: Jack did a great job. But how hard to see
- 4:54Speaker 4: this thing that was your baby for years and years
- 4:56Speaker 4: and years.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I'm just surprised he couldn't get it made because it
- 4:59Speaker 1: was a play. in New York before it was ever
- 5:03Speaker 1: a movie. And I'm trying to remember if Kirk Douglas
- 5:08Speaker 1: was in the play. Let me look here.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I imagine he had trouble getting it made because of
- 5:13Speaker 3: the whole Kirk Douglas thing.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Ken Kesey wrote the novel. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,
- 5:21Speaker 1: the play.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Well, and Kirk Douglas, what they said in the interview
- 5:25Speaker 4: was his star had kind of drooped. fallen yeah so
- 5:30Speaker 4: he was not the the the big draw that he
- 5:35Speaker 4: you know he wasn't spartacus anymore he was.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Is it kirk douglas or clint eastwood i can't yeah
- 5:40Speaker 3: it's darn the luck so i was in that play
- 5:46Speaker 3: oh there it is uh i was in the play
- 5:48Speaker 3: and the part i played was billy bibbit which was
- 5:51Speaker 3: originally played on stage.
- 5:54Speaker 1: And i think in the movie and in the movie
- 5:56Speaker 1: too by um Brad Dourif. Oh, yeah. Chucky. The voice
- 6:04Speaker 1: of Chucky. You know, Brad Dourif. Let's see. One Flew
- 6:07Speaker 1: Over the Cuckoo's Nest play. Dale Wasserman adapted it. Won
- 6:11Speaker 1: a bunch of awards. Yeah. Yeah. Kirk Douglas was Randall
- 6:15Speaker 1: McMurphy in 1963 on stage.
- 6:20Speaker 2: That was many years before.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Ed Ames. Remember him? Oh, yeah. He was Chief Bromden.
- 6:28Speaker 1: William Daniels, you know who that is. He was Dale Hardick.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Billy Bibbit was Gene Wilder. Really? That's the part I played.
- 6:36Speaker 1: That would have been interesting to see. Yeah, I was good.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I really was. I was excellent.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I'm sure you were. I meant the Gene Wilder.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Oh!
- 6:49Speaker 2: But I would have liked to have seen you in that.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he would be very good in that. Yeah, so
- 6:55Speaker 1: that's interesting. Kirk Douglas did play it. Then it had
- 6:58Speaker 1: a Broadway revival in 2001. Gary Sinise played Randall McMurphy.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Oh.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And who played the... I don't know any of these
- 7:08Speaker 1: other actors, really.
- 7:10Speaker 4: No.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So, anyway, it's a good play. It's very well done.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And it's pretty close to the movie. Pretty.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Well, yeah, you can see how it could all take
- 7:21Speaker 4: place just in that one.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Danny DeVito.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Therapy room or whatever.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Danny DeVito's in it with his Mr. Martini. Martini. It's, yeah.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Christopher Lloyd, who always has a crazy face.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and who was the big nurse? Nurse Ratched? Yeah,
- 7:41Speaker 1: it was Louise Fletcher. Yeah, Louise Fletcher. She won an
- 7:46Speaker 1: Academy Award for that.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah, she did, and then she disappeared.
- 7:50Speaker 1: She was on Deep Space Nine for a number of years.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I'm sorry. She was Kai Wynn.
- 7:55Speaker 1: She did a lot of stuff.
- 7:57Speaker 2: She was evil. Evil?
- 8:00Speaker 3: My child, she would say. Well, now I just need
- 8:03Speaker 3: that guy to make a face off.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Who do you want to face off with, Kerry?
- 8:07Speaker 1: Well, let's see. Maybe it should be Kirk Douglas.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Young Kirk Douglas.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I think it should be Conway Twitty because he is
- 8:14Speaker 3: my enemy.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Your mortal enemy.
- 8:17Speaker 1: The thing of Michael Douglas, just to go back to that,
- 8:20Speaker 1: He didn't mention this. He mentioned some of his other roles,
- 8:23Speaker 1: you know, and he was good in a lot of stuff.
- 8:26Speaker 1: But when he got his start, he was in The
- 8:28Speaker 1: Streets of San Francisco with Carl Malden, which was a
- 8:32Speaker 1: terrible show. And Carl Malden's nose took up most of
- 8:36Speaker 1: the screen.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it had a good theme song.
- 8:39Speaker 1: It did. And then he was great playing Liberace. And
- 8:46Speaker 1: Louise Fletcher was also in Flowers in the Act.
- 8:48Speaker 2: All right.
- 8:50Speaker 1: She did plenty of stuff. She had stuff. She was around.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I will admit I was wrong about Louise Fletcher.
- 8:55Speaker 1: You want to bitch about her age, too? I know.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Now I need a face-off of Gina and Louise Fletcher.
