- 0:20the thrill of wheel to wheel racing.
- 0:21We've got you covered with UpToDate.
- 0:23F1 News delivered at full throttle.
- 0:25Strap in because the lights are out and we're underway.
- 0:28This is formula fanatics.
- 0:40All right, formula One.
- 0:41It's almost March formula.
- 0:44March 7th.
- 0:45Is that the first race?
- 0:46That's Australia?
- 0:48Yes.
- 0:48Man, we gotta get that Apple TV subscription turned up.
- 0:51It went live today, apparently did.
- 0:53Okay.
- 0:53I was wondering when that was gonna happen.
- 0:55So that's the other big thing.
- 0:57Right now we can link our Apple TV to the Formula One app and
- 1:01still use the Formula One app.
- 1:03Like we used to use the Formula One app and then they say that after I deleted it.
- 1:07'cause I was like, what do I need this for?
- 1:09Yeah, I deleted it too.
- 1:11Freaking hokey pokey.
- 1:13Right.
- 1:14Why couldn't he have just said that from the beginning?
- 1:16I don't know.
- 1:17But then you, you'd still have to log in with the Apple, right?
- 1:20Your Apple creds.
- 1:21I don't even know.
- 1:22I don't know how it's gonna work.
- 1:23We're gonna have to figure it out March 7th, so not that far away.
- 1:27Brad, you said the Formula one calendar is available to like download, to
- 1:30like put on your phone and stuff.
- 1:32Like, it'll actually add it to your, like, I cal. Yeah, I have the, not the
- 1:36F1 TV app on my phone, but the actual F1 app, and when you go to schedule,
- 1:42you could, there's a downloadable.
- 1:45Schedule for Apple Outlook and Google Map, uh, Google Calendar.
- 1:48Oh, that's awesome.
- 1:49Yeah, so I added it to both the, my Apple and Google calendars.
- 1:53Nice.
- 1:53I have to do that too.
- 1:55I did it manually last year, like a full, and I'm like, I'm looking for the
- 1:58easy button so I don't miss the races.
- 2:00Yeah.
- 2:00And I, I get notifications, so like, if I pull up my calendar right now, not to, you
- 2:05know, belabor this point or whatever, but.
- 2:07Yeah, I see Formula One Aramco preseason testing, you know, which
- 2:12is all going on tomorrow in Bahrain.
- 2:16So they're, they're testing this week in Bahrain.
- 2:19And then March 5th, they're, I. I guess the Australian Grand Prix.
- 2:24Hmm.
- 2:25Well, they're in Australia and they have the practices and then Yeah.
- 2:27Yeah.
- 2:27Qualify the races.
- 2:29Yeah.
- 2:29The seventh at 11:00 PM so we'll be seeing it on the eighth.
- 2:33Yeah, exactly.
- 2:35Speaking of schedules, Franz Herman might be making some more debuts this year.
- 2:41What?
- 2:41What was this whole scuttlebutt about racing schedules?
- 2:44Didn't we talk about this last time too?
- 2:46No, we did not.
- 2:47When did we have all these conversations?
- 2:49Were we talking They always happened like the day after?
- 2:52Well, yes, because he is interested in endurance racing and is one of the, I
- 2:56think it's the North Life endurance race.
- 3:00Essentially the, they're moving around the dates of that race
- 3:04to accommodate the Formula One schedule so he can participate.
- 3:07That's some serious influence right there.
- 3:11How much power does Max aff in wield?
- 3:14If he can get the sanctioning bodies to change their schedules
- 3:19for him, I mean, that's baller.
- 3:23He'll draw a crowd.
- 3:24So, um, I wanna see it.
- 3:26Where's is that gonna be on the FIA We plus after we talked
- 3:30about in the other episode?
- 3:31Good question.
- 3:33They gotta show it somewhere.
- 3:34Can't just keep it to themselves.
- 3:36Brad, you were talking about preseason testing.
- 3:38They've already done some preseason testing at Barcelona, which
- 3:43Barcelona, none of it really matters.
- 3:45I suppose It doesn't.
- 3:46None of it matters to all crap.
- 3:48But Tanya, you told me something the other day that was very important
- 3:51about that Barcelona testing, which was that the drivers hate their cars.
- 3:55Yes, I saw in, yeah, I read some quotes from the drivers
- 4:00and all of them hate their cars.
- 4:02Sorry, I just jumped in 'cause.
- 4:05Whatever.
- 4:05But yes, none of 'em like their cars.
- 4:08I mean, it wasn't, I mean, Barcelona was already several weeks ago,
- 4:10but the more recent news from people is that, I don't know.
- 4:15The driving is very different.
- 4:17Very, very different.
- 4:19Some people are saying it's like, well, max Statin is quoted as
- 4:22saying it's Formula E on steroids.
- 4:25So what exactly that means for them?
- 4:27I don't know, but I also saw something that said about like shifting into
- 4:32first gear and it's really rough.
- 4:35Oh, for the type?
- 4:35Yeah.
- 4:36If you don't do it right, you'll like upset the car.
- 4:39And like, why are we like, what are we doing here?
- 4:42And, and they talk about coasting into corners because it's all
- 4:45about your battery regents.
- 4:46So now it's this whole strategy game you have to play in order to
- 4:49keep like your battery up and, and then passings now like, well the.
- 4:55Without DRS anymore, they, I guess they have to go to old
- 4:58school passing, I don't know, but apparently passing super difficult.
- 5:01So it's gonna be like parade laps the whole time and then
- 5:04everybody's just driving under speed to maintain their battery.
- 5:07It's gonna be the worst season formula.
- 5:09Dumb.
- 5:10That's, we're gonna start calling.
- 5:11It's be terrible, but let's talk about this Racecraft thing for a second.
- 5:16Okay.
- 5:16Oh my God.
- 5:18You don't know how to pass.
- 5:19You don't how to late break.
- 5:20You don't know how to maneuver.
- 5:22Just watch some Sena versus prot and you'll see how it's done by the masters.
- 5:26Come on.
- 5:27I don't know, but apparently first ENS has already figured out how
- 5:31to shift gears, so, oh my God.
- 5:35He pushes the same button he pushed before to make it go down.
- 5:38I mean, come on, really.
- 5:40And Louis said something about how people watching aren't gonna
- 5:43understand what's going on.
- 5:45Like how the rules have changed and how I guess they get to
- 5:49drive and all that stuff.
- 5:50I'm like, that's interesting.
- 5:52I mean, you're either passing someone or you're not.
- 5:56What are the other rules that are going into place?
- 5:58It's gonna look like a giant Alonzo train is what it's gonna look like.
- 6:02I guess the confusing thing's gonna be however they're announcing it, where
- 6:04they're like, he is coasting into the corner for her battery regen ad and
- 6:08blah, blah percent, blah, blah, blah.
- 6:12So are we gonna get live telemetry from the cars showing how much regen
- 6:15that they're doing now on this tv?
- 6:18They do that Atta, or did they do that at lama?
- 6:21They do do that at lama.
- 6:22That's why I'm wondering.
- 6:23I don't know.
- 6:23I mean, I'm sure that's something that would be available in the F1 app.
- 6:26'cause you could see a lot of telemetry data in the F1 app anyway, depending
- 6:31on what you had, you could get into the dry reviews and all that stuff.
- 6:36Has there been any mention about when the cutoff is between the gas
- 6:41powered engine and the electric motor?
- 6:44To your point about Formula E on steroids, is it gonna be mostly
- 6:47electric and then kick over to gas?
- 6:50I haven't seen anything, so I'd have to research it.
- 6:52Because the way they're doing it in the prototype cars that like Rolex and Lamont,
- 6:56places like that is to a certain speed.
- 6:59It's running under electric and then it kicks over to gas to
- 7:02carry it the rest of the way.
- 7:03So when it's, so it's 50 50 apparently.
- 7:08So I guess that's where it comes in, that you have to be really careful
- 7:13with how you drain the battery then.
- 7:16'cause it's half your, it's half your power.
- 7:20So that means land's gonna be pulled over about lap five.
- 7:23'cause he doesn't do very well at keeping his battery up.
- 7:25We saw that last year.
- 7:26He is always like zero.
- 7:27You know what I mean?
- 7:28There's like nothing.
- 7:30So it'll be interesting to see how they do.
- 7:32I think there's other things about how like the fuel flows are
- 7:35reduced for efficiency and ah.
- 7:40So they got rid of the DRS, but I think there's like still like the
- 7:42Mario Kart Turbo Boost button or something where they can activate.
- 7:46I think they could do anyway where they could get a power
- 7:49boost from the batteries.
- 7:50But like that apparently is gonna be the only thing they have to pass.
- 7:55But I'm like.
- 7:55Don't.
- 7:56Slipstream still work?
- 7:57I don't get it.
- 7:58Drafting is drafting and like it hasn't changed in a hundred years, but I don't
- 8:02know, maybe we're wrong because they're always talking about the dirty air that
- 8:05you're in when you're following somebody.
- 8:10Maybe that's something else that we're not understanding.
- 8:13That's like new math where we've reinvented math to make
- 8:16it more complicated, but the numbers end up being the same.
- 8:19Well, I guess it depends.
- 8:20I don't know what the aerodynamic, like how does the
- 8:23air come off the back of them?
- 8:25Is it so turbulent that if you're too far up somebody,
- 8:28you're no longer in a slipstream?
- 8:30Because in a slipstream, the air goes around you and you're in a pocket
- 8:34of no air resistance and that's why you can keep accelerating and gain.
- 8:39But what if coming off the back of those wings and everything
- 8:42is just this turbulent mess?
- 8:44They would actually.
- 8:45Hinder you, you wouldn't be in a slipstream, you know, these cars just
- 8:49need bumpers and a full cockpit and fenders and, and then they could bump,
- 8:59draft and then they would, they wouldn't have these problems, you know, if that
- 9:03was true, then Ferrari would stand a chance 'cause they would just put the 4
- 9:069, 9 b on track and, exactly, exactly.
- 9:09They need different cars.
- 9:10That's what they, that's what they need.
- 9:11They just get rid of, get rid of this shit.
- 9:13Which was other news if we didn't already talk about it.
- 9:15'cause since I can't remember where we talked about anything, is
- 9:18they're actually sending over those engineers from that car in that
- 9:23series to work on the Formula One car.
- 9:26So maybe, maybe it's our year.
- 9:32No, no.
- 9:33It's just gonna be more meh.
- 9:35That's what it's gonna be.
- 9:36But to a point you made, if they have to rely on.
- 9:41Late breaking and drafting and actually passing.
- 9:46It's called racing.
- 9:47Yes.
- 9:48Racing that thing.
- 9:49Yeah.
- 9:49Who in the field is probably best suited for that?
- 9:54Ollie Biman and Kimmy Antonelli, boom.
- 9:56Hammy and Alonzo.
- 9:58And of course Master Staffing 'cause he apparently can do anything.
- 10:01And Kinberg because, and Hulk's Ancient too.
- 10:04And Bo, yeah.
- 10:06All the old timers are gonna be able to drive, so who knows?
- 10:09I don't know.
- 10:10It'll be interesting, I guess.
- 10:11I guess it's either gonna be horrifically boring.
- 10:14It got awful.
- 10:16Or maybe it'll actually be interesting.
- 10:18I think it's gonna be A and not B. I can't wait to see the drive to survive of it.
- 10:23I can't wait to see the first person who depletes the battery and they're
- 10:27stuck going half speed around the track.
- 10:30I don't know.
- 10:31Money says it's Perez.
- 10:35I was gonna say it's stroll.
- 10:37Well, you're right about that.
- 10:39Never, I, I just, I put him out of my mind.
- 10:43Stroll's gonna be on a stroll.
- 10:46I just, I put him out of my mind.
- 10:47I. I don't know why, but it's still, it's still too early to tell what's
- 10:51going on because you have, you got the, oh, Audi is doing terrible,
- 10:55blah, blah, blah, to like, people go, oh no, we're really, Audi's progress
- 10:58is amazing in the preseason testing.
- 11:01And then you have like, oh, red Bull.
- 11:02I saw something posted like Red Bull.
- 11:04I don't know.
- 11:04It's like at least 15 miles an hour faster than the next car.
- 11:09And then you have, oh, well Red Bull's the fourth fastest team right now.
- 11:13It's like, what lies?
- 11:15It's all bullshit.
- 11:17Really, but they had the highest top speed, but they're the fourth
- 11:20fastest and Vertin driving.
- 11:21And then, oh, well Mercedes is sandbagging and oh, Ferrari.
- 11:24Then it's like, it's all smoke and mirrors at this point.
- 11:28It's all lies.
- 11:29But to your point about Audi bono.
- 11:33Talk about hokey pokey.
- 11:35Well, we're the best.
- 11:36We're gonna be amazing.
- 11:36We're gonna be, we're gonna be terrible.
- 11:38Bono came out and said they have reliability issues
- 11:41with the motors already.
- 11:43Haven't they been working on this for like two years?
- 11:46I don't know.
- 11:46I don't know what to believe Lies.
- 11:49I don't know what to believe because it's smoke mirrors at the moment.
- 11:53I've got an unrelated question regarding the race numbers.
- 11:57So Lando Norris won last year.
- 11:59Is he taking the number one as Vertin going back to the 33?
- 12:03Yes.
- 12:04Tappin's going back to a different number.
- 12:08I think he's, he had to go ask Ricardo if he could use the number he was using.
- 12:13Oh, Ricardo was using three.
- 12:15Yeah, so then I think he's going to three.
- 12:18Okay.
- 12:18Why do you have to ask another driver who's retired and isn't
- 12:22even in Motorsport anymore?
- 12:24If you can use his number.
- 12:25Maybe it was a courtesy, but they registered.
- 12:28Don't know.
- 12:28Maybe he didn't have to.
- 12:29It was just a courtesy.
- 12:31You think Max gives a crap about Ricardo?
- 12:33Never researched it.
- 12:36That's weird.
- 12:37I did see a chart about the numbers and like numbers that were
- 12:41unallocated and numbers that belonged to certain people that they've
- 12:45reused over, like Lewis Hamilton, the 44 and all that kind of stuff.
- 12:48And it's like, I didn't understand the significance of that chart, but
- 12:51maybe that's why it all lines up now.
- 12:54They're somehow reserved.
- 12:56But yeah, so Audi has engine troubles.
- 12:59I don't like their livery.
- 13:00I think they should have stuck to what we saw online in the last year's images.
- 13:05I, I think I just, I don't like the way it looks.
- 13:07It looks too much like the Cadillac.
- 13:09Did you see the Cadillac?
- 13:10You know we talked about the Super Bowl and all that stuff in the last episode.
- 13:14Did you stick around till 10 30 to see the Cadillac reveal?
- 13:18Yes.
- 13:19Super late and it was really boring.
- 13:21It was not like anything we talked about.
- 13:23It's like black and silver.
- 13:25That's it.
- 13:25Well, it had the little lines that's on everything except they were just black
- 13:29and white, so they're like hard to see.
- 13:30But those like the little rectangles that are like the yellow and the
- 13:34red uhhuh or whatever, Uhhuh.
- 13:36It has those, they're just like black and white.
- 13:39It's a gray scale.
- 13:40It's a gray scale car.
- 13:41This thing looks like a newspaper.
- 13:43So when the Mercedes is coming at you and the Audi's coming at you and
- 13:47the Cadillac's coming at you, you're gonna be able to tell the difference.
- 13:50They're literally all the same color.
- 13:52A don't get it.
- 13:54Well, at least.
- 13:54We'll, we'll look for the red or the orange on the Audi and
- 13:57we'll know which one it is.
- 13:59God, yeah.
- 14:00It looks like it's about to explode from this picture.
- 14:02It looks like it's overheating in the center.
- 14:04It's about the rupture.
- 14:06Danger to beautiful.
- 14:07But speaking of liberties, you know, Williams was one of the last ones.
- 14:12You guys can say it because I, obviously, I'm a hater and I say
- 14:15it every year, but I don't, there's not much you can do with these cars.
- 14:20Okay.
- 14:20In terms of liberties, like honestly, especially with Gone are the days that
- 14:26you had the big Marlboro across it or something like that, you know, like.
- 14:30Yes.
- 14:31I don't know.
- 14:32It looks just like last year's car to me because I don't care that much to get into
- 14:36the design of the air foil on the front.
- 14:38It's a wing.
- 14:39It has a wing.
- 14:40It has wheels that are exposed.
- 14:41But I always like the Duracell thing on the Williams car.
- 14:45I think that's super cute up top.
- 14:46Did you notice the wheels on the Williams though?
- 14:49Are we going to this style wheel or are we gonna stay with those closed hubcap things
- 14:53that we've had for the last couple years?
- 14:55Uh, I don't know.
- 14:56I didn't see 'em.
- 14:57Look at the Williams closely.
- 14:58They got spokes.
- 14:59They got spokes, exactly.
- 15:01And they made 'em look like a roulette wheel, which I
- 15:03thought was also kind of cool.
- 15:05But that's an open wheel instead of a closed wheel like we've been used to
- 15:09seeing over the last couple of years.
- 15:10So I'm wondering, are we gonna see some different wheels at least
- 15:12kind of shake up the way they look because they all look the same.
- 15:16Mm. I do think this year's car is the best looking car in a while.
- 15:22It looks more like a car from, let's say, the Schumacher era.
- 15:27Not with the high nose, but like, you know, the late eighties, early nineties.
- 15:31Formula cars.
- 15:32It looks more like a formula.
- 15:33Last year's formula car with the funky, you know, multi-layer
- 15:36wings, and it just looked like cat Whiskers and I, it looked goofy.
- 15:41They claim these are shorter.
- 15:42I don't know how by how much, but they do look shorter.
- 15:45They look a little bit more compact.
- 15:47So maybe that'll make for a better Monaco race at the end of the day, but
- 15:50I don't know, they all look the same.
- 15:52So on this month's drive through episode, we talked about things
- 15:56going away, closing, being resurrected, stuff like that.
- 15:59You know, who's back, do hands, back, back, back, back again.
- 16:04Han is going to be the reserve driver at Haas.
- 16:10Okay, go for him.
- 16:12So when did they bring back Latifee?
- 16:13Never.
- 16:17That's No.
- 16:19I mean, no, no, we're not gonna, I mean, we kept stroll around.
- 16:23We remember what country he's from or you thinking maid?
- 16:26Oh yeah.
- 16:27I was thinking Maid.
- 16:28Who the hell was Latifee?
- 16:29Oh, he was Canadian dude.
- 16:31Oh my God.
- 16:32Who remembers him?
- 16:36Apparently not you.
- 16:39I have mixed feelings about this year's formula.
- 16:41One season.
- 16:42A quick lightning round.
- 16:44Are we excited for this year's season?
- 16:45Are we just going to suffer through it?
- 16:48Brad?
- 16:49I'm excited to actually be able to watch some of the races.
- 16:51So yes, Tanya?
- 16:54No, I mean, I'm looking forward to seeing at least.
- 16:58All right.
- 16:58The real question is how many races in does it become meth?
- 17:04Three.
- 17:05Just like last season, by the third race, there's two new teams, so
- 17:09it'll be interesting to see Perez and BOTAs back and Cadillac, and
- 17:14then seeing the Audi out there.
- 17:17Seeing what all these rule changes are and how the cars behave or don't
- 17:21behave under the new engines and aerodynamics and all that stuff.
- 17:24So I think there's at least several races of something interesting happening,
- 17:29followed by a whole lot of meh.
- 17:31So, I mean, yeah, I mean, look forward to it in that sense.
- 17:34It, there's changes, there's enough changes to make.
- 17:37Least gotta see how it shakes out and hopefully it'll be something
- 17:40competitive and not just parade laps at every track, because if they can't
- 17:45pass, then what the hell are we doing?
- 17:46We basically, like you end the race where you qualified because
- 17:49like Monaco, every race is Monaco.
- 17:52Yeah.
- 17:52Do you think that if that's how Australia feels, that every
- 17:58race is gonna be like that?
- 17:59Or is it gonna be track dependent?
- 18:03I think if every race starts becoming parade laps, these
- 18:06drivers are gonna flip their lids.
- 18:09There'll be a rule change, midseason, there's gonna be something that
- 18:11changes 'cause they're gonna be pissed.
- 18:13What does the sanctioning body care about?
- 18:15That it's Formula one.
- 18:16This is the formula we came up with.
- 18:18Figure it out.
- 18:19Isn't that how they take their arrogant attitude towards it?
- 18:22What if all your drivers say, fuck you?
- 18:24Yeah.
- 18:24What if the fans stop watching?
- 18:26What if the ratings drop?
- 18:27That's why you have people like Duhan waiting to be in to take somebody's seat.
- 18:32We'll see.
- 18:33I mean, they'll lose viewership because they're gonna lose all
- 18:36their American viewership because if they're bored, they're not
- 18:39gonna sit there fucking watching.
- 18:41They're already gonna lose their viewership anyway by
- 18:43switching everybody to Apple tv.
- 18:44So, I mean, I'm not saying they're losing everybody to get app.
- 18:48I mean, that's a whole thing.
- 18:49It's a whole, if you're not already there or you're not an,
- 18:52and even if you are an Apple device owner, it's a whole nother thing.
- 18:57It's like how many more services are there?
- 19:00Or it's just excuse somebody needed to get Apple tv.
- 19:02'cause to your point, it's cheaper to pay for the Apple TV subscription
- 19:05than F1 subscription was only.
- 19:07So you can watch the Brad Pitt movie, that's why I'm doing it.
- 19:13There's other shows there you wanna see.
- 19:15That's true, but the, the pool is not very deep on that side.
- 19:19No, I have Apple TV and I literally never turn it on.
- 19:22Probably turn it on more than you turn on Amazon Prime.
- 19:24Can you imagine if Formula One was on Amazon Prime?
- 19:28I actually use Amazon Prime Daily because of the kids.
- 19:31I do not.
- 19:32Almost do it.
- 19:33I don't know.
- 19:33I, again, I am on the fence about this formula one season.
- 19:36I guess we just, we only have a couple more weeks to wait and we'll
- 19:40know and we'll be able to talk about like what's actually happening.
- 19:43It's such a slog to get to this point, but every day seems like a new piece of news.
- 19:48But by the time this episode airs, we're within two weeks of
- 19:51the first race, so there we go.
- 19:53Right.
- 19:53So after all the testing, who's gonna win?
- 19:56Has your prediction changed?
- 19:58It's gonna be Max's year again, because the McLaren boys aren't
- 20:02gonna be able to figure it out.
- 20:03It's Oscar, it's Kimmy.
- 20:05I'm keeping an eye on Beerman and I don't know what to say about the rest of them.
- 20:09I know who's not gonna win.
- 20:11Stroll.
- 20:12Stroll
- 20:15terrible.
- 20:16We don't know.
- 20:17We don't know.
- 20:18Because the other twist to the plot is we have an Adrian Newey car.
- 20:22In order to win, you have to finish.
- 20:26That's not gonna happen.
- 20:27I don't know.
- 20:28It's.
- 20:29It'll be interesting to see.
- 20:30Well, you have to wait and see.
- 20:31Wait and see.
- 20:33Taste the goodness of Formula one.
- 20:37Oh, Brad, you had something here for us to wrap up this formula one episode
- 20:41with, what was this clip from Instagram?
- 20:44Just a little, a little fun clip, uh, that came across my feed from
- 20:48a racing season back in 2024.
- 20:51It wasn't F1.
- 20:53It was super formula.
- 20:54Okay.
- 20:55But basically the drivers, there was a safety car out on the track and
- 20:58the safety car was going so fast.
- 21:00The drivers were having a hard time keeping up with it.
- 21:02It was a marked by Toyota Super driven by Koji Obar, who I guess.
- 21:07Is a great driver, obviously, but they, the, and the, the commentary
- 21:12from the other drivers in the field were kind of funny talking about
- 21:16how fast this, the safety car was.
- 21:18They couldn't even keep up with it commenting on entering and
- 21:21exiting the turns and everything.
- 21:22So it's just a fun little clip.
- 21:24To get us like kind of jazzed for the season.
- 21:26He is booking, he's whipping that thing around.
- 21:29He's, he's kicking ass.
- 21:30And then the drivers are like, is that safety car always that quick?
- 21:34I do like that.
- 21:34I thought that was really cool.
- 21:36No, that's a good way to end this episode and, you know, puts us on a
- 21:39high note for the Formula one season.
- 21:41So let's get back to our regularly scheduled programming
