- 0:14Speaker 1: Rockland County. Dave, how you doing?
- 0:18Speaker 4: Good, how are you? Good.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I was just asking about the groups in Germany.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Trump's pulling them out. What's going on with that?
- 0:28Speaker 4: You hear anything?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a big thing. I didn't hear one thing
- 0:31Speaker 1: he said. Your phone is breaking up. You got that
- 0:34Speaker 1: Rockland County cell service. Just say it again.
- 0:39Speaker 5: With Trump and the troops in Germany bringing out all
- 0:41Speaker 5: the troops for the EU issues.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. We're bringing some troops back from Germany. We
- 0:46Speaker 1: don't need all the troops there. The EU, let them
- 0:50Speaker 1: put up their own troops. You know, this EU... All
- 0:53Speaker 1: these things we're involved in, you know, we pay all
- 0:55Speaker 1: the money. They don't put in a penny. Let them
- 0:58Speaker 1: kick in some of that. Let's go to Frank in Manhattan. Frank,
- 1:02Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 1:04Speaker 4: I'm doing fine. Greetings from flyover country.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Where are you?
- 1:09Speaker 4: I'm in Manhattan.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That's not flyover country.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Well, you're not thinking of the right Manhattan.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Oh, you're in Manhattan, Kansas?
- 1:17Speaker 4: I'm... I'm in Manhattan, Kansas.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 1:20Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I'm a native New Yorker, and you go by Mr.
- 1:25Speaker 2: New York.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And why'd you move to Kansas?
- 1:29Speaker 4: I went to school here.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Back in 1970.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So what happened? You saw a cornfield, and you said,
- 1:34Speaker 1: this is great. I got to move here.
- 1:37Speaker 4: It's the wheat state, okay? Get it straight. It's the
- 1:39Speaker 4: wheat state.
- 1:40Speaker 1: That's better? I'd rather have corn. What are you going
- 1:44Speaker 1: to do with all that wheat?
- 1:47Speaker 4: Make bread.
- 1:48Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So what do you do in Manhattan, Kansas?
- 1:54Speaker 4: I'm retired.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Oh, no wonder you're in your pajamas at 1130.
- 2:00Speaker 4: No, I've actually been out watering the garden and stuff.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I've got a question for you. Go ahead. You go
- 2:07Speaker 4: by Mr. New York, right?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And I just want to see if you're really Mr.
- 2:11Speaker 2: New York.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 2:12Speaker 4: So I've got a New York question for you.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 2:15Speaker 4: What is a two-sewer hip?
- 2:18Speaker 1: Say it again. What is a what?
- 2:20Speaker 4: A two-sewer hit.
- 2:21Speaker 1: A two-sewer hit was in stickball if you hit the
- 2:24Speaker 1: ball far enough that it went two sewers.
- 2:26Speaker 4: All right. That's good. That's good. Can you name two
- 2:29Speaker 4: ingredients that are not in an egg cream?
- 2:33Speaker 1: Well, there's hundreds of ingredients that aren't in an egg cream.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It's chocolate syrup. There are two major ones. What do
- 2:40Speaker 1: you mean?
- 2:40Speaker 4: Eggs are cream.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Eggs are no cream.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Well, that's true.
- 2:43Speaker 2: That's true.
- 2:44Speaker 1: All right. You thought I wouldn't know the stickball question?
- 2:46Speaker 1: I'm friends with Curtis. You can't hang around Curtis and
- 2:49Speaker 1: not know anything about stickball. He was like a stickball champion.
- 2:53Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Good call, Frank.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Thanks for calling. Let's go to Stephen. Now, there's a
- 2:59Speaker 1: debate whether it's Mayo Pack or Mahopic. Which is it, Steve?
- 3:06Speaker 5: Well, it depends if you're a liberal or you're an American.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah, they actually fight up there about what their town's called.
- 3:12Speaker 1: They got nothing better to do. I always call it
- 3:14Speaker 1: Mayo Pack.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I protest for a little bit. I'm going after Mike Lauer.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 5: I'm not going after him physically.
- 3:25Speaker 4: You're talking about Mike Lawler?
- 3:29Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm working my way up. I'm different.
- 3:34Speaker 1: You're definitely different. Not in a good way, but you're
- 3:37Speaker 1: definitely different.
- 3:39Speaker 5: I had four strokes. I'm a bereaved parent. When I
- 3:41Speaker 5: was three years old, my brother got killed in a
- 3:43Speaker 5: car there. But I'm doing okay. The police tried to
- 3:49Speaker 5: take away my... What's that?
- 3:51Speaker 1: No, you sound good. You sound like you have a
- 3:52Speaker 1: good outlook on life, good personality. All right.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Well, give me a question, please, so I can figure
- 3:57Speaker 5: you out.
- 3:58Speaker 1: What's the capital of Kentucky?
- 4:01Speaker 5: Oh, gosh. Come on. Give me something different.
- 4:04Speaker 1: That's a good question to ask people, because nobody ever
- 4:06Speaker 1: gets it. It's Frankfurt. It's the one capital you'll never get.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Okay, give me something else. Give me something else that's different.
- 4:13Speaker 1: What's the capital of Guatemala?
- 4:17Speaker 5: Oh, gosh. Stop asking me these questions.
- 4:20Speaker 1: It's Guatemala City. It's an easy one to remember. Use
- 4:22Speaker 1: that one, too, on people. Anyway, Frank.
- 4:25Speaker 5: In your whole life, when you were with Grandma, what
- 4:28Speaker 5: did she do to make you so happy?
- 4:30Speaker 1: What?
- 4:32Speaker 5: When we were kids... When you were with Grandma, what
- 4:36Speaker 5: did she do to make you so happy?
- 4:38Speaker 1: Oh, she was wonderful. She'd say, turn that TV down. Anyway,
- 4:43Speaker 1: thanks for calling, Steve. Let's go to Mike in Manhattan. Mike,
- 4:47Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 4:49Speaker 4: Mark, how are you?
- 4:50Speaker 1: Good.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Mark, let me tell you something. It's been a weird summer.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I could never get to Beach Street. I can't believe
- 4:57Speaker 2: tomorrow is September 1st.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 5:00Speaker 4: It's unbelievable.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I forgot that. Oh, my God.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It's unbelievable. And the Jewish holidays are next week. Usually
- 5:05Speaker 2: the last few years have been later than the years.
- 5:07Speaker 2: But I got to tell you something.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 2: For the last 10, 15 years, after July 4th, the
- 5:13Speaker 2: summer's over. You go two days in the store, like
- 5:16Speaker 2: you're going to Target, and two days after July 4th,
- 5:19Speaker 2: every shelf is all back to school, back to school this.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And a week later, two weeks later, Halloween stuff is
- 5:26Speaker 2: popping up.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:27Speaker 2: They don't give you a break. It's crazy. Before you
- 5:30Speaker 2: know it, you know what they've been doing the last
- 5:32Speaker 2: few years? They've been skipping Thanksgiving and going right into Christmas.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So come mid-September, you'll be looking, you'll go to Lowe's,
- 5:39Speaker 2: Best Buy, you'll go to Lowe's, Home Depot, you see
- 5:41Speaker 2: Christmas trees in the window already.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. Absolutely. Good point, Mike. Yeah, it's terrible.
- 5:50Speaker 1: What's that story? There's these stores that just sell Christmas stuff.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I actually saw one of them already open. One of
- 5:55Speaker 1: them is already open. Got time for one more? Michael
- 5:58Speaker 1: on the east side. Michael, how are you doing?
- 6:01Speaker 3: Hey, I tried. Sorry. We used to make our own bagels.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I do breakfast and lunchtime catering. And I stopped by
- 6:14Speaker 3: one of these pop-up places. There were some young college
- 6:17Speaker 3: kids there. And they said, oh, do you want to
- 6:19Speaker 3: try one? That pop-up, everything bagel. is incredible.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It is. Pop-up bagels are amazingly good. Now, why would
- 6:30Speaker 1: you make your own bagels? You live on the east
- 6:32Speaker 1: side of Manhattan. There's a bagel store every two feet.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Why would you make your own bagels?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of them are crap.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Well, they're not good enough for the great Michael of
- 6:42Speaker 1: the Upper East Side, but you got H & H.
- 6:44Speaker 1: You got all the best bagels. Hey, that one in Queens,
- 6:48Speaker 1: they've been considered the best in Manhattan, the best in
- 6:50Speaker 1: New York City for years. Utopia Bagels. They finally opened
- 6:53Speaker 1: in Manhattan. There's one like 3rd Avenue, 52nd. There's one
- 6:57Speaker 1: on 34th Street. But that pop-up is everywhere. They're really
- 7:01Speaker 1: stealing their thunder. Pop-up bagels, pretty amazing. Hey, when we
- 7:04Speaker 1: come back, speak of the devil, the best food writer
- 7:07Speaker 1: and real estate writer, Steve Cuso. We'll talk to him
- 7:11Speaker 1: next about restaurants, food, Manhattan, how's New York City doing,
- 7:15Speaker 1: and rent and all that. We'll get to all that
- 7:17Speaker 1: coming up on 710WOR.
