- 0:06Speaker 1: Padres closer Mason Miller joining us after the first few games.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Big weekend of the season here in MLB. Mason, great
- 0:13Speaker 1: to have you on.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Man.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Let's start with the entrance. I think we have to.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I know you've answered some questions about it, but take
- 0:18Speaker 1: us through, like the behind the scenes of everything that
- 0:21Speaker 1: went into Corn popping up as your entrance music.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Yeah, obviously Corns a little before my time, so I
- 0:28Speaker 3: had to be a little bit more going into that.
- 0:30Speaker 2: The clubhouse staff Klubbies.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Came to me in spring training right after I got
- 0:34Speaker 3: back from the WBC and they're like, hey, we were
- 0:36Speaker 3: in here last night. This song came on and we
- 0:39Speaker 3: think it'd be great for you. So they threw it on,
- 0:43Speaker 3: and I mean the loud speaker. When you kind of
- 0:46Speaker 3: listen to it on like your phone, you're like, eh,
- 0:48Speaker 3: I don't know, but you put it on a loud speaker,
- 0:51Speaker 3: It's like, this is pretty sweet. So I think I
- 0:53Speaker 3: think it turned out all right. The club he's already
- 0:55Speaker 3: said they're gonna they're they're trying to get it even louder.
- 0:58Speaker 2: So yeah, I think I think it turned out pretty well.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Did you have to hear it in the stadium before
- 1:04Speaker 4: you said okay, yeah, I definitely like this.
- 1:07Speaker 2: No, they get the bump box in the locker rooms
- 1:10Speaker 2: loud enough. Yeah, that captures it.
- 1:13Speaker 4: What's the one klubby? When I was with the Padres,
- 1:15Speaker 4: he might not even still be there. Does he still
- 1:17Speaker 4: ride around on the hoverboard when he's doing laundry?
- 1:21Speaker 2: I think I haven't seen that.
- 1:23Speaker 4: You haven't seen it, Okay, But anyway, those dudes were
- 1:26Speaker 4: always in when I was there. They were always into
- 1:28Speaker 4: heavy metal, So I love that they chose it. But
- 1:31Speaker 4: take us to that moment, Take us to a moment
- 1:32Speaker 4: when you came out there. You knew it was going
- 1:35Speaker 4: to be a different, choreographed light show, all that stuff.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Did you get the reaction yourself? Or is your heart
- 1:43Speaker 4: rate already pumping and you don't. It doesn't really matter
- 1:45Speaker 4: what the music and the lights are doing.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I don't think it really matters. I mean, you know
- 1:50Speaker 3: where I played for a couple of years ago, so
- 1:54Speaker 3: that doesn't need I don't need those to get the
- 1:56Speaker 3: juices fun. But man, they do help. I mean playing
- 1:59Speaker 3: it is one of the kind uh sick experience. They
- 2:04Speaker 3: love the ninth inning, they love saved situations. So and
- 2:08Speaker 3: it's the first one a year too, so obviously I
- 2:10Speaker 3: was excited to get out there and and get that one.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Out of the way.
- 2:14Speaker 5: No doubt you got the first. Say for Craig Stamons
- 2:16Speaker 5: first when talk a little about him, was there a
- 2:19Speaker 5: speech afterwards? The excitement, you know, just for him to
- 2:22Speaker 5: get that first went off his back.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Yeah, the first one is that you always celebrate the first.
- 2:28Speaker 3: You have to, you know, that's that's fun, you know,
- 2:32Speaker 3: brings the guys together. Not not really a speech, but
- 2:35Speaker 3: we did put him in the cart, and you know
- 2:38Speaker 3: he's done that before, so he knew that was coming.
- 2:40Speaker 3: But just all good fun with the guys and we
- 2:43Speaker 3: got the first one out of the way. So play
- 2:45Speaker 3: a little more free hopefully this next series and you
- 2:48Speaker 3: know these things get rolling, you know, be the team
- 2:50Speaker 3: that we know we can be.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Do you have to ask the hefe if he's okay
- 2:54Speaker 4: going in the cart or was this like a pre
- 2:56Speaker 4: determined because Craig albern As the players on the Orioles
- 2:59Speaker 4: on his first victory, asked him and he's like, yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 4: I'm down for the boys. Did you guys go as
- 3:04Speaker 4: crazy as you did for other guys? Times when they
- 3:07Speaker 4: when they get in the cart or was it.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Just I think that was actually my I think that
- 3:12Speaker 3: might have been my first or maybe second one with
- 3:15Speaker 3: the padres, so.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Pretty standard, I would imagine.
- 3:19Speaker 3: But it was respectfully, of course, as was Joe just said, hey,
- 3:25Speaker 3: we you.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Know, jump in the cart respectfully. That's okay with you?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Of course it was. So he's one of one of
- 3:34Speaker 2: the boys, you know.
- 3:35Speaker 3: That's part of what makes Stem unique and why we
- 3:39Speaker 3: were pretty excited about having him there is you know,
- 3:43Speaker 3: he has that different relationship and not a lot of
- 3:46Speaker 3: teams are a lot of managers are accustomed to having
- 3:49Speaker 3: where you know, he played with some of the guys.
- 3:52Speaker 3: I think the respect and the like understanding level was
- 3:55Speaker 3: a little bit different. Not necessarily better or worse, you know,
- 3:59Speaker 3: but I think that that's a welcome change for a
- 4:02Speaker 3: lot of the guys here.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Do you feel it on the pitching side too, with
- 4:07Speaker 1: his experience not just as a former pitcher but a
- 4:09Speaker 1: really recent former pitcher.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I think time will tell more. You know, we're
- 4:15Speaker 3: three games into it, so it's kind of hard to tell.
- 4:17Speaker 3: But you know, I don't think it's gonna hurt. There's
- 4:21Speaker 3: no way that it should hurt. You know, he's been
- 4:23Speaker 3: in our position. He's been in you know, stretches where
- 4:27Speaker 3: he's throwing a ton or stretches where he's not throwing.
- 4:30Speaker 3: So I think the just general usage and game planning
- 4:33Speaker 3: of it will be will be great.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Hey, Mason, you got to watch a little bit of
- 4:39Speaker 1: the Tigers. They were one of the better teams in
- 4:40Speaker 1: the AL last year. They should be again this year.
- 4:45Speaker 1: One of the conversations we're gonna go over later in
- 4:46Speaker 1: the show is the burst of rookies on the scene.
- 4:49Speaker 1: This looks like one of the better rookie classes that
- 4:51Speaker 1: we've seen in a while. What was your first hand
- 4:54Speaker 1: viewing experience of Kevin McGonagall like for the Tigers.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm impressive obviously.
- 5:00Speaker 3: You know they have that entrance to your your big
- 5:04Speaker 3: league career, let alone on an opening day and you
- 5:06Speaker 3: know he's playing several different positions and you know, you
- 5:11Speaker 3: just tip your cap to that.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You know, he was putting a lot of good swings
- 5:14Speaker 2: on the ball.
- 5:15Speaker 3: You know, he's all over the dish, which you know,
- 5:17Speaker 3: as a pitcher is pretty annoying. You know, I feel
- 5:21Speaker 3: like with his leg kick, his foots in the strike
- 5:23Speaker 3: und but he covers it inside pitch well. Alway's got
- 5:27Speaker 3: great plate discipline, so you know, I'm not surprised at
- 5:30Speaker 3: all to see him having success given his pedigree, and yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 3: I wish him nothing.
- 5:35Speaker 2: But the best.
- 5:38Speaker 6: This one's for the dudes looking for that peak bedroom performance.

- 6:36Speaker 2: It's blue choo.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Obviously we're gonna talk about the rookies later, but when
- 6:39Speaker 4: you see a rookie like that come up and I
- 6:41Speaker 4: get it, you got four hits in the first game.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Do you guys feel like as big league pitchers who
- 6:47Speaker 4: are established, you're like, we don't really have a lot
- 6:50Speaker 4: on them. Yeah, we have some double A triple A video.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Does that hurt your ability to necessarily make the best
- 6:58Speaker 4: pitches or could you guys really care less and just
- 7:00Speaker 4: go with whatever you guys got going.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I think each pitcher is going to be different.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I do think there's some truth to seeing you know
- 7:08Speaker 3: what he's had success against and what he's had struggles with,
- 7:13Speaker 3: and then you know you have to kind of extrapolate.
- 7:15Speaker 2: That to the big league level.
- 7:16Speaker 3: You know, if you know he's hitting I think his
- 7:19Speaker 3: his numbers on ninety seven plus, we're pretty good in
- 7:22Speaker 3: the minor leagues. But then you also don't know how
- 7:25Speaker 3: many you know, hit able pitches he's seen at ninety
- 7:28Speaker 3: seven plus either, So you kind of take like everything
- 7:32Speaker 3: with a grain of salt, at least in my opinion,
- 7:34Speaker 3: and for me, I always kind of fall back on,
- 7:37Speaker 3: you know, what I do well and at the end
- 7:39Speaker 3: of the day, like if I execute what I'm trying
- 7:42Speaker 3: to do, you know, if it's a slider below the
- 7:44Speaker 3: zone or a fastball in or fastball at the top, like,
- 7:48Speaker 3: it doesn't really matter who it is. You know, more
- 7:51Speaker 3: times than not, if you execute your pitch, you're going
- 7:53Speaker 3: to have a good outcome. Sometimes they will be you,
- 7:56Speaker 3: and you know, more prolific or players that you know,
- 8:01Speaker 3: we all know who they are, might have a little
- 8:03Speaker 3: bit higher success rate. But those guys that are the
- 8:06Speaker 3: best in the game are still hitting you know, three,
- 8:08Speaker 3: three hundred three twenty so seventy percent of the time
- 8:11Speaker 3: they're getting out.
- 8:14Speaker 5: See, I want to ask this question. You've been on
- 8:16Speaker 5: cruise control here. It seems like these last you know,
- 8:18Speaker 5: ten games. I've been looking at here since September sixth
- 8:21Speaker 5: hitters bet oh for thirty twenty three strikeouts. My question
- 8:24Speaker 5: is five walks, man, what's that about?
- 8:28Speaker 2: We got cut down on the walk.
- 8:30Speaker 5: We gotta cut that out.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yeah, we gotta get back to that. The walk rate
- 8:34Speaker 3: was great in twenty four the walk rate took it
- 8:36Speaker 3: hit last year and watched one in my first outings.
- 8:40Speaker 3: So Uh, that's that's that's up here where we're trying
- 8:44Speaker 3: to dial it in and limit those walks for sure.
- 8:47Speaker 5: And I want to just go and kind of finish
- 8:49Speaker 5: what I was trying to get out here. Like it's
- 8:52Speaker 5: it's really impressive, brot. Let's just call spaders pade. What
- 8:55Speaker 5: you've been doing, how you've been doing it? You face
- 8:57Speaker 5: these batters. I'm sure you have some sort of that
- 9:00Speaker 5: you talk about. Is there. You know, you don't have
- 9:03Speaker 5: to tell me the game plan, But sometimes you when
- 9:05Speaker 5: you throw that hard, do you feel like sometimes I
- 9:08Speaker 5: just got to get it to a spot where I
- 9:10Speaker 5: need to be and I'm going to execute. Or sometimes
- 9:13Speaker 5: do you think I'm throwing this hard? Let me just
- 9:15Speaker 5: grip it and rip it, you know, and hopefully I
- 9:17Speaker 5: get the movement I want to.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's a blend. Each day is different,
- 9:22Speaker 3: y'all know that. You know, sometimes you feel great, sometimes
- 9:25Speaker 3: you don't feel as good. Sometimes it's no thoughts, sometimes
- 9:28Speaker 3: it's all the thoughts. I say, last year, towards the
- 9:32Speaker 3: end of the season, it was kind of like that
- 9:33Speaker 3: flow state and I'm not thinking about anything, just kind
- 9:35Speaker 3: of going out there ripping it, you know, having a
- 9:38Speaker 3: good idea of where the ball was going, a good
- 9:41Speaker 3: feel for pitches, a good feel for misses. I feel
- 9:45Speaker 3: like that's a big part of my game. I'm not
- 9:47Speaker 3: a solo put it in a solo cup guy. You know,
- 9:50Speaker 3: I have a lot of good you know, work on
- 9:54Speaker 3: the edge of the strike zone, but some of that
- 9:56Speaker 3: is playing you know where my miss is that day too,
- 9:59Speaker 3: and and like how it can be effective on the
- 10:01Speaker 3: glove side, but also my miss is going to be
- 10:03Speaker 3: the top, which is going to be a great pitch too.
- 10:06Speaker 3: But yeah, now it's a new season, so you know,
- 10:08Speaker 3: everybody's starting at zero, and you know it's a little
- 10:11Speaker 3: bit of everybody finding their foot and some guys are
- 10:14Speaker 3: coming out scorching hot, some guys are coming out cold,
- 10:16Speaker 3: and everybody's freaking out because you know, oh my gosh,
- 10:19Speaker 3: you're gonna get a hit in your first ten to
- 10:21Speaker 3: fifteen at bats, or you give a couple of runs
- 10:23Speaker 3: in your first outing. It's like, you know, we're all
- 10:26Speaker 3: we're all getting our sea legs under us a little bit.
- 10:28Speaker 3: And you know, playing in front of the big league stadium,
- 10:30Speaker 3: there's there's no simulating that in spring training, so guys
- 10:33Speaker 3: are choiced guys are amped up and we're all excited
- 10:35Speaker 3: Baseball's back, all right.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Well, all that excitement and then you guys have off
- 10:40Speaker 4: on Sunday, Mason off on a Sunday. Have you ever
- 10:43Speaker 4: in your big league career had no game on a
- 10:46Speaker 4: Sunday that wasn't a right now?
- 10:49Speaker 3: No, I don't know if I ever ever have. I
- 10:51Speaker 3: don't know if I ever will again. This is the
- 10:54Speaker 3: opening day schedule is kind of kind of weird with
- 10:58Speaker 3: you know, we had a Wednesday game an off day
- 11:01Speaker 3: for those guys, and I just kinda up a weird
- 11:04Speaker 3: setup to me. But what we're gonna do. We don't
- 11:08Speaker 3: make the schedule. We just play the game, all.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Right, Well, one of the dudes is playing the game.
- 11:12Speaker 4: He's playing a new position. Castianis is gonna get some
- 11:15Speaker 4: time at first d H For you guys, I know
- 11:18Speaker 4: you missed part of spring with the WBC, But what
- 11:21Speaker 4: are the conversations you're hearing? Like is there a little
- 11:24Speaker 4: bit of a chip on his shoulder? Because I feel
- 11:26Speaker 4: like he's a really good player and I felt like
- 11:28Speaker 4: he kind of got he got a band rep in Philly,
- 11:32Speaker 4: and now all of a sudden he's with a really
- 11:34Speaker 4: good team inserted in this lineup. What are you hearing
- 11:37Speaker 4: from his side?
- 11:39Speaker 3: I mean, I think he's in a great spot. We've
- 11:41Speaker 3: seen him take a couple of good swings this first
- 11:43Speaker 3: series too. Some of that was off the bench, and
- 11:47Speaker 3: you know that's obviously an adjustment for him, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 3: me personally him, we're talking about a pinch hitting I
- 11:53Speaker 3: think is one of the toughest things in the game,
- 11:55Speaker 3: especially these days.
- 11:57Speaker 2: You know, you're always.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Getting you know, late inning leverage arm type situation, and
- 12:01Speaker 3: as a leverage armor, you know, you know who's on
- 12:04Speaker 3: the bench, you have a pretty good idea, you know,
- 12:06Speaker 3: a spot that a guy might show up, so just
- 12:08Speaker 3: that preparation. But yeah, I think he's in a great headspace.
- 12:13Speaker 3: You know, San Diego is a really hard place to
- 12:15Speaker 3: be unhappy, you know, with the weather and the guys
- 12:18Speaker 3: that we have here. So I think it is a
- 12:21Speaker 3: little bit of like, you know, fresh start and looking
- 12:25Speaker 3: to prove some things, and you know his opportunities are
- 12:27Speaker 3: coming this year and he's going to be ready.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Mason. The story that dominated the weekend was the ABS
- 12:33Speaker 1: challenge system coming to life in regular season games, and
- 12:36Speaker 1: many fans that weren't paying much attention in spring training
- 12:39Speaker 1: or like this is awesome. So what was your experience
- 12:42Speaker 1: like with it in your series? But then also just
- 12:44Speaker 1: checking out some other clips that went viral on social media.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think you know, we're seeing exactly what
- 12:52Speaker 3: we hope to see from it, and you know, some
- 12:54Speaker 3: calls getting overturned in big.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Spots, you know.
- 12:58Speaker 3: For me though, I think we had three challenges and
- 13:03Speaker 3: eighteen pitches the other night, and I kind of expected
- 13:06Speaker 3: that to be the case if a team, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 3: has their challenges still, which you know, knowing how teams
- 13:12Speaker 3: are looking at it, you don't want to burn your
- 13:14Speaker 3: challenges early and be without them the rest of the game.
- 13:17Speaker 3: So good chance they're going to have at least one
- 13:19Speaker 3: and you can't take it with you. So I'm gonna
- 13:21Speaker 3: guess there's gonna be a lot of challenges. In the
- 13:23Speaker 3: ninth inning, Freddy Freddy got got one right, he challenged one,
- 13:29Speaker 3: got it right, got to count to two instead of
- 13:32Speaker 3: one to one.
- 13:33Speaker 2: So that was big. Yeah, so early indications. It's good.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I haven't had that backbreaker yet.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I mean I threw a back door slider the cold
- 13:44Speaker 3: Keith that got called strike three. He challenged it, so
- 13:47Speaker 3: It's kind of like you start your loop around the
- 13:48Speaker 3: mound and then you got to stop, and then you
- 13:50Speaker 3: gonna wait, and then it's like, oh yeah it is
- 13:52Speaker 3: strike three, Okay, could keep going. So it's kind of
- 13:55Speaker 3: like that weird disruption of you know, the the natural
- 13:59Speaker 3: flow of the game that we're used to. But I
- 14:01Speaker 3: think objectively, it's going to avoid these I guess egregious
- 14:07Speaker 3: calls that people end up talking about for the next
- 14:10Speaker 3: you know, three days after it came in.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Is this episode is brought to you by Fox One.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Go get that new app, stream baseball, stream football, stream
- 14:22Speaker 1: World Cup action.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You'll be watching definitely. I can't wait.
- 14:25Speaker 6: I actually want to try and get to a game.
- 14:26Speaker 6: But well and there, I'll still have my Fox one app.
- 14:28Speaker 6: I'll have MLB, the shows, the great shows that Fox has,
- 14:33Speaker 6: college football that I love, college basketball, they have it all.
- 14:35Speaker 6: This really is the app that you can get all
- 14:37Speaker 6: of anything you want to watch on an app. Fox
- 14:40Speaker 6: one has it and they are great.
- 14:42Speaker 1: At yeah, the big sporting events. And by the way,
- 14:44Speaker 1: the World Cup is June eleventh to July nineteenth. You
- 14:47Speaker 1: can get a free seven day trial of Fox one,
- 14:50Speaker 1: So go check that out and you can start your
- 14:53Speaker 1: seven day free trial today. Offers are subject to change.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Go to Fox one for complete terms and conditions. Fox
- 14:59Speaker 1: one dreaming Now.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Could you see could you see pitchers being affected by
- 15:03Speaker 4: you kind of hitt it on it a little bit
- 15:05Speaker 4: in the sense of how do you lock back in
- 15:07Speaker 4: after that seventeen to twenty two second delay when you
- 15:12Speaker 4: thought you had something and then you didn't. You all
- 15:15Speaker 4: thought you had to strike out, and now I gotta
- 15:17Speaker 4: keep battling this good hit.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think there's if it's egregious, you're
- 15:23Speaker 3: gonna know already, you know, like you're gonna throw it
- 15:26Speaker 3: and you're gonna be you're gonna get the call, and
- 15:27Speaker 3: you're gonna be like would have been last year.
- 15:30Speaker 2: But I know that's the ball, So.
- 15:33Speaker 3: I don't know. It's it's a tough, little like gap
- 15:36Speaker 3: of times. It's not like it's not like a mountain
- 15:39Speaker 3: visit necessarily, but it's like closer to that than it
- 15:42Speaker 3: is a normal, you know, pitch pitch gap between with
- 15:47Speaker 3: the timer. For me, I think I'm just trying to
- 15:50Speaker 3: take it as like, you know, we don't get to
- 15:53Speaker 3: just step off as much times as we want, So
- 15:55Speaker 3: that's just like, take a moment center yourself. I'm trying
- 15:59Speaker 3: not to stare at the board the whole time, honestly,
- 16:02Speaker 3: I want to see it when day it comes in.
- 16:03Speaker 3: But if you sit there and you turn around and
- 16:05Speaker 3: you stare up at the board, and you're centered on
- 16:07Speaker 3: the board, and you're staring at this bright LED screen
- 16:10Speaker 3: and then you turned back around and you got to
- 16:11Speaker 3: lock back in on like the hitter and what you're doing,
- 16:14Speaker 3: I just feel like, visually that's difficult, but I think
- 16:17Speaker 3: person to person that don't very that's.
- 16:20Speaker 2: A good point.
- 16:20Speaker 4: I liked that. I didn't think about the LED screen blinding.
- 16:23Speaker 4: You get off your screens, kids, I liked it. So
- 16:25Speaker 4: you're getting off your screen, all right. I got two
- 16:27Speaker 4: WBC questions. First one, some people kind of felt like
- 16:31Speaker 4: it was viral and didn't know what was going on.
- 16:34Speaker 4: You got your medal and you took it right off.
- 16:37Speaker 4: I saw some of your other teammates doing it. When
- 16:38Speaker 4: you guys got your second place metal, can you go
- 16:41Speaker 4: through that moment and kind of like think, explain to
- 16:44Speaker 4: us what you guys were talking about leading up to that,
- 16:47Speaker 4: and then when you've got your metal, what your thought.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Was there really wasn't any discussion prior to it, so
- 16:54Speaker 3: I don't know, you know, at least for me, that
- 16:57Speaker 3: was I didn't come there to finish second place. Nobody did.
- 17:02Speaker 3: And it's in no way a slight to our competitors
- 17:05Speaker 3: or anybody that were playing, or anybody that you know
- 17:09Speaker 3: didn't get a chance to play for that medal. But
- 17:12Speaker 3: you know, as competitors, I feel like the expectation is
- 17:14Speaker 3: to come there and win. And I also feel like
- 17:17Speaker 3: with baseball, that's not something that we're super accustomed to.
- 17:21Speaker 3: I don't really remember getting like a runner up or
- 17:25Speaker 3: like on field presentation for second place since like Little League,
- 17:30Speaker 3: So I just kind of felt it felt a little
- 17:32Speaker 3: bit weird, and you know, I obviously finishing second isn't
- 17:36Speaker 3: why we came there. You know, the silver medal was
- 17:39Speaker 3: is still you know, something that was I'm sure desired
- 17:42Speaker 3: by a lot of teams, but that had been just
- 17:45Speaker 3: kind of our discussion like throughout the whole time. It's like,
- 17:48Speaker 3: you know, the target felt like it was kind of
- 17:50Speaker 3: on our back, and you know, we had every intention
- 17:52Speaker 3: of you know, living up to that and winning the gold,
- 17:56Speaker 3: but unfortunately weren't able to. So I think it was
- 17:59Speaker 3: just just some in moment, you know, disappointment that that
- 18:01Speaker 3: kind of showed out there. But you know, like I said,
- 18:03Speaker 3: not any any of his flight towards you know, the
- 18:07Speaker 3: other team, the competitors, or anybody that fell short.
- 18:10Speaker 4: All right, can you shed some light on the availability
- 18:13Speaker 4: because we found out after the game that you were
- 18:15Speaker 4: available if you guys, you were available to save the
- 18:18Speaker 4: game if you guys were winning. Kind of feels like
- 18:21Speaker 4: an oxymoron. If you're winning, the game would be over
- 18:25Speaker 4: as the home team. So can you give us the
- 18:28Speaker 4: shed some light on act your actual availability for that game.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going into the tournament just talking with the Padres.
- 18:36Speaker 2: The plan was to not go three out of five
- 18:38Speaker 2: at all.
- 18:40Speaker 3: And AJ said to me, he was like, hey, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 3: so if you pitch in the quarterfinals in the semi finals,
- 18:47Speaker 3: you're cool.
- 18:47Speaker 2: With not pitching the finals.
- 18:49Speaker 3: And I just told him at that point, like, hey,
- 18:51Speaker 3: we'll just cross that bridge when we get there. You know,
- 18:53Speaker 3: hopefully that doesn't come to that. So of course it
- 18:55Speaker 3: did through the quarterfinals, semi finals. I'm sure he knew
- 18:58Speaker 3: I was gonna call him an ash. You know, we
- 19:01Speaker 3: talked to we talked to the pitching the pitching guys
- 19:04Speaker 3: here too, and you know, they trusted me, and I
- 19:08Speaker 3: told him I felt good, you know, and they said,
- 19:11Speaker 3: we're okay with you being available for a save only,
- 19:15Speaker 3: which I agree, you know, looking back, save only, like
- 19:19Speaker 3: that's always a tough part. Like closer pitches a tie
- 19:21Speaker 3: game normally at home, but also during the season. You know,
- 19:24Speaker 3: unless it's September, probably if you've had your your closure
- 19:28Speaker 3: goes two of the last four days, you're probably gonna
- 19:32Speaker 3: run somebody else out there in a tie game in
- 19:34Speaker 3: the ninth you know, the save only verbiage is pretty common,
- 19:38Speaker 3: so I don't think it was super surprising. I was
- 19:42Speaker 3: just glad that they allowed me to be available because
- 19:45Speaker 3: I totally expected it to be a no because that's
- 19:48Speaker 3: how we came into the tournament. But obviously would have
- 19:52Speaker 3: loved to get the chance to pitch. But we're surrounded
- 19:55Speaker 3: by a lot of guys down there that you know,
- 19:57Speaker 3: our best at what they do as well, so you know,
- 19:59Speaker 3: I don't I'll take the you know, there was a
- 20:02Speaker 3: bad option down there, you know, but obviously I would
- 20:06Speaker 3: have liked to be in that game too.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, well said now a helpful explanation. Yeah,
- 20:11Speaker 1: and Garrett Wicklock and company. Not too shabby. We had
- 20:13Speaker 1: wed some good arms down there for Team USA. I
- 20:16Speaker 1: know it hurts, but thanks to the explanation and also
- 20:20Speaker 1: did great start to the season. Love the entrance, so
- 20:24Speaker 1: let's roll that. Great choice and thanks for joining us.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Do great to see you guys.
