- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the Guitar Jet podcast, where you'll skyrocket your
- 0:03Speaker 1: knowledge of theory, techniques and fundamentals for guitar. Hey, it's Miles,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome to the podcast. I'm going to be talking to
- 0:12Speaker 1: you about the four different types of triads. I wrote
- 0:15Speaker 1: an article about this called Learn Guitar Triad Fundamentals in
- 0:19Speaker 1: five Minutes, and I'll link to that in the description below.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But of course with the podcast, I'm trying to help
- 0:24Speaker 1: you learn guitar theory on the go. So let's talk
- 0:28Speaker 1: about the four different types of triads in music theory,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and those are major, minor, diminished, and augmented. To build
- 0:37Speaker 1: a major triad, you'll put it together with a route,
- 0:40Speaker 1: a third and a fifth, and that gives you the
- 0:42Speaker 1: formula one, three and five. And to turn that into
- 0:46Speaker 1: a minor triad, you'll flatten the third so that gives
- 0:50Speaker 1: you a minor third, which gives you a minor triad,
- 0:53Speaker 1: and that formula is one flat three five, and then
- 0:57Speaker 1: you'll go to the diminished try and a diminished triad
- 1:01Speaker 1: is like a minor triad with a flat and fifth,
- 1:05Speaker 1: or you could call it the diminished fifth, and that
- 1:07Speaker 1: gives you the formula one flat three flat five, and
- 1:12Speaker 1: then we move to the last of our four triads,
- 1:15Speaker 1: which is the augmented triad. The augmented triad is like
- 1:20Speaker 1: a major triad with a sharp fifth or an augmented fifth,
- 1:23Speaker 1: so that gives you the root the third, and the
- 1:27Speaker 1: sharp five the augmented fifth. So let's recap those formulas
- 1:33Speaker 1: for all four triad types. The major triad formula is
- 1:37Speaker 1: one three five, minor triad formula is one flat three five,
- 1:44Speaker 1: the diminished triad formula is one flat three flat five,
- 1:49Speaker 1: and the augmented triad formula is one three sharp five.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And that's it. The easiest way to start playing these
- 1:58Speaker 1: own guitar is to start with a major chord, then
- 2:02Speaker 1: identify where the root, major, third, and fifth are, and
- 2:07Speaker 1: then start modifying those intervals in order to create the
- 2:11Speaker 1: other three types of triads, minor, diminished, and augmented. And
- 2:17Speaker 1: that is it for today's podcast. Thank you so much
- 2:21Speaker 1: for listening to the show and follow along on whatever
- 2:25Speaker 1: podcast hosting platform you use, and I look forward to
- 2:30Speaker 1: catching you in the next episode, and I hope you
- 2:32Speaker 1: have a fantastic day. Rock on
