- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. So today we are talking about
- 0:31what beliefs you hold about yourself.
- 0:34Yesterday I had the privilege of taking my son to an interview
- 0:39for an internship at a company that does heating, plumbing,
- 0:45HVAC, all kinds of stuff like that because my son wants to be
- 0:49a plumber and I, I have to say I'm incredibly impressed that he
- 0:53has made a decision about this. He's fascinated by it.
- 0:57He he is mechanical as the day is long, building a motorcycle
- 1:02for himself, taking the engine apart.
- 1:05Last night something went wrong. He already diagnosed it has to
- 1:08try to figure out how to do, you know, fix it.
- 1:11But he's extremely mechanical and the idea of doing plumbing
- 1:16is fascinating. Tim has no no interest in
- 1:19electrician, but was really fascinated.
- 1:21I think the plumbing thing came up because of his fish tanks and
- 1:24he's got very large fish tanks and he watched a bunch of
- 1:27different videos in his school about career exploration.
- 1:32And when he learned that all the things that plumbers are
- 1:35involved with, he was fascinated by it.
- 1:38So we reached out, We were going to go to a technical school.
- 1:44They didn't offer it for plumbing because apparently
- 1:46plumbers have to be trained very specifically by other plumbers,
- 1:49which is really what's interesting about it.
- 1:51And we reached out to a company that I saw about a commercial on
- 1:57television. And the guy that owned the
- 1:59company was doing the commercial, and he was just
- 2:01incredibly sincere and you could just tell.
- 2:04And I reached out and I asked them if they were doing
- 2:07internships on plumbing and they said they don't usually do it,
- 2:10but they would because it's, it's a long process, but they
- 2:13would love to talk to him. So we went down and sat with the
- 2:19person that would be his manager and the person who would be his
- 2:23trainer from the office. And I, I got to witness first
- 2:28hand what we believe about ourselves.
- 2:31The man was asking my son very specific questions and he said
- 2:35to him, so tell me, what do you believe about doing this job?
- 2:40And he said, I believe it's going to be awesome.
- 2:44I'm going to have my hands dirty all the time.
- 2:46I'm I just, I'm curious. I want to know.
- 2:48And I watched how he framed himself and what he had to say
- 2:52about it. Now, my son is 16 years old and
- 2:56most 16 year old kids don't have a ton of confidence, in my
- 3:01experience, to walk in with a room full of adults, sit at a,
- 3:05at a, you know, a meeting table, really a corporate table that
- 3:09they had set up because it's a pretty big company, and answer
- 3:13questions from different people. And he did and he shook hands
- 3:18and he was strong. And the man said to him, you
- 3:21know, I believe that you believe everything you're saying.
- 3:24And he goes, oh, I'm confident. And it was and it came out of
- 3:29him so strong. And one, of course, OK, so
- 3:32that's me having a brag moment about my son saying look at look
- 3:36at how confident he is. Look at the young man he has
- 3:38become. But it's also a lot of work that
- 3:41we've done. It's we've put him in the
- 3:43position to grow. We let him fail.
- 3:45He has a job where he's already gone into this.
- 3:48But it's also more than that. It's about teaching him how to
- 3:51talk to himself. And whenever he gets frustrated
- 3:53or has gotten frustrated in the past, we have lots of
- 3:56conversations about you have to believe, you have to have that
- 4:00belief in yourself. And yesterday I witnessed first
- 4:04hand how that shows up because when they asked him specific
- 4:08questions about what he believed, because he's going
- 4:10into something that's going to be very difficult.
- 4:13It's a long path to become a master plumber.
- 4:15And that's what he wants to do. And the guy said to him, well,
- 4:19what's going to happen when it gets hard?
- 4:21And he's like, well, you could see that he was like stunned
- 4:25even by the question. He goes, what do you mean?
- 4:27I'm not going to give up. I'm just, I, I'm going to keep
- 4:30going. I'm going to have questions.
- 4:31I'm going to lean on people that can answer questions for me.
- 4:35He's like, I like asking questions and when he said that
- 4:39I was like, look at his beliefs about himself.
- 4:41So the the real crux of this today is what do you believe
- 4:46about yourself? Do you believe that you're
- 4:48capable? Do you believe that you can go
- 4:50in and and learn? Do you believe that you can go
- 4:53in and set yourself up to win? Or do you believe that it's
- 4:57hard? Do you believe that it's, you
- 4:59know, overwhelming? Your beliefs dictate these
- 5:03outcomes so much more than you could ever imagine, my friends.
- 5:07And when you do see it happening, when you see right
- 5:11before your eyes what's going on, like I witnessed with my
- 5:14son, it is amazing to say, hey, you know what?
- 5:18I'm I, I can do this. And that's what he did.
- 5:22And that's what you can do by making sure you're aligned and
- 5:26understand those beliefs and fix them if they're not in the right
- 5:30place and shift them to positive beliefs by telling yourself, no,
- 5:36that's a bunch of crap. And I'm not going to believe
- 5:38that about myself. I'm going to believe this.
- 5:40And you push yourself to do it. It's a question of pushing.
- 5:44It's a question of making yourself be so hungry for the
- 5:49greater good of who you are. Leave nothing on the table.
- 5:53You know that old saying about you know, when I die, I don't
- 5:56want there to be any music left in me.
- 5:58I don't want to leave anything on the table.
- 6:00If I had to be really honest, I would say that's exactly why I
- 6:04push myself. I have no idea what my time
- 6:07frame is and I have no way of knowing, and I refuse to leave
- 6:12anything on the table. That's just the end right there.
- 6:16I refuse to leave it on the table because you've heard me
- 6:19say this before, but I'll remind you the real definition of hell
- 6:23is when the person you are meets the person you could have been.
- 6:27So on that note, go out and figure that out and really nail
- 6:32those beliefs. I hope you all have a blessed
- 6:34day and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
