- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, so what's your hot boy, right? So we're FSU.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We're back on the market for a new head coach.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Give me, I know it's on the spot right now,
- 0:08Speaker 1: but give me some names that you've been thinking about
- 0:10Speaker 1: that could be good fits for FSU.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I love in terms of current coaches, right?
- 0:16Speaker 3: Because for us to go get a head coach from
- 0:18Speaker 3: a prominent university, I don't know if we're capable financially
- 0:23Speaker 3: to do that.
- 0:24Speaker 2: And if we're going to go get a coordinator, right?
- 0:28Speaker 3: Go get a coordinator that is used to being in
- 0:32Speaker 3: high atmosphere positions, like environments, right, where it's championship or bust.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I love Glenn Schumann. I love Glenn Schumann from UGA.
- 0:44Speaker 3: And the reason why I love Glenn Schumann from UGA,
- 0:48Speaker 3: I know Kirby personally, and I know how he coaches
- 0:51Speaker 3: the game of football. Kirby Smart is one of those
- 0:55Speaker 3: rare coaches currently– I think he's the only coach currently
- 1:00Speaker 3: in college football that has had coaching relationships with a
- 1:06Speaker 3: Bobby Bowden, with a Mickey Andrews and a Nick Saban.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Right. And I had.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Opportunity to talk to Kirby personally during SEC media day.
- 1:16Speaker 3: And I asked him, what did he learn from all
- 1:19Speaker 3: three of those individuals? And the layout of what he
- 1:22Speaker 3: learned was masterful. And also it makes sense in why
- 1:25Speaker 3: he's doing what he's doing. So one would think everything
- 1:30Speaker 3: that he has dispersed to his team, to his coaching staff,
- 1:33Speaker 3: Glenn has soaked all of that up.
- 1:35Speaker 2: And they're very, very feisty physical defensive unit.
- 1:39Speaker 3: And remember, the last defensive minded guy who left Kirby
- 1:42Speaker 3: went on to do really, really good things, even though
- 1:44Speaker 3: they've had some disappointing outings this season. But when you
- 1:47Speaker 3: look at what Dan Lennon is doing in Oregon, right,
- 1:49Speaker 3: and what he has done in Oregon. So Glenn Schumann
- 1:52Speaker 3: would be my– and if I'm not mistaken, I think
- 1:55Speaker 3: he had some family ties tied to Tallahassee, if I'm
- 1:59Speaker 3: not mistaken.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Glenn, I think he graduated high school. He played at
- 2:02Speaker 1: Valdosta State. He's from the Valdosta area.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he had some kind of family ties tied.
- 2:07Speaker 3: But that would be my first name in terms of
- 2:10Speaker 3: getting someone from a major university. And Georgia is Georgia, right?
- 2:14Speaker 3: You can say whatever you want to say. You can
- 2:16Speaker 3: say– It's a new player here. It's a new player there.
- 2:19Speaker 2: They're consistent. And that defense has been high level, right?
- 2:22Speaker 3: And the next name I'll throw out is a name
- 2:25Speaker 3: that has been circulating around Florida State for quite some time.
- 2:30Speaker 2: It's Jimbo Fisher. And the reason why I say Jimbo
- 2:32Speaker 2: Fisher is this.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Financially, because of what transpired today, where will we be
- 2:40Speaker 3: in terms of having that financial cap to put together
- 2:42Speaker 3: a hell of a staff, right? And if you know,
- 2:45Speaker 3: Jimbo's still getting paid from A & M. So it's
- 2:48Speaker 3: not like Jimbo coming in and say, I need to
- 2:50Speaker 3: get $ 8 million. I'm just throwing out as an opinion.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I don't know for sure, but I would imagine knowing
- 2:55Speaker 3: that he wants to get back into coaching and he
- 2:57Speaker 3: would love to be able to coach Florida State again.
- 3:00Speaker 2: It's not like he's going to say, hey man, give
- 3:02Speaker 2: me six, $ 7 million.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Hey, Jimbo might take the deal for four or five
- 3:05Speaker 3: a year, you know, throw some incentives in there, but
- 3:08Speaker 3: devote the rest of that cap to making this staff prolific, right?
- 3:12Speaker 3: As long as he displays a great plan for what
- 3:16Speaker 3: this staff is going to look like, offensively and defensively.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Guys that come in and they have command of everything
- 3:23Speaker 3: and they have a resume of showing they can handle
- 3:25Speaker 3: that said command. Because one thing we know about Jimbo Fisher,
- 3:28Speaker 3: I understand how it ended. And there's two sides to
- 3:30Speaker 3: every story, right? There's two sides to every story. But
- 3:33Speaker 3: one thing you cannot overlook, especially when he was in
- 3:36Speaker 3: his bag, he dominated when it came to recruiting. He
- 3:41Speaker 3: dominated when it came to our state business. Miami and
- 3:44Speaker 3: Florida State, he dominated. And he put together one of
- 3:48Speaker 3: the best teams we have ever seen at Florida State.
- 3:52Speaker 3: And he understands another thing that I love about Jimbo
- 3:55Speaker 3: because of his bow and ties.
- 3:57Speaker 2: It's personal for him.
- 3:59Speaker 3: When he coached Florida State, when he goes against Miami,
- 4:03Speaker 3: you can see him now at the ACC Network. The
- 4:06Speaker 3: love is still there for him. It's a personal relationship
- 4:09Speaker 3: for him. And it might make the most financial sense. But,
- 4:16Speaker 3: there's a key but, we gotta see the plan. Like,
- 4:20Speaker 3: when you have these discussions for the powers that be, bro,
- 4:23Speaker 3: what is your game plan?
- 4:24Speaker 2: OCs, what options?
- 4:26Speaker 3: Because think about it like this, CJ, if, and I'm
- 4:29Speaker 3: throwing out a hypothetical, I don't know the numbers, but
- 4:32Speaker 3: let's say if we're paying our head coach four or
- 4:34Speaker 3: five million with incentives based on winning, now you can
- 4:38Speaker 3: go out and go get and pay an OC 3 million,
- 4:42Speaker 3: a DC 3 million, right? Now you can go get
- 4:44Speaker 3: the coaches those guys need to have where you know
- 4:48Speaker 3: when they come in, instantly the spark is there in
- 4:50Speaker 3: the recruiting trails, in the portal, because they're a known commodity.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Now we ain't got a penny pitch when we got
- 4:58Speaker 3: to pay a coordinator 1-2 or 1-5. And then some
- 5:02Speaker 3: of the other money that you're not, because, you know,
- 5:04Speaker 3: look at the coaching right now. Most head coaches are
- 5:06Speaker 3: getting north of 10 million a year. So for Florida State,
- 5:09Speaker 3: that would be a win. And make it a short-term deal.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Allow him to show and earn his stripes. But then also, too,
- 5:15Speaker 3: some of the other access money that you're not giving
- 5:17Speaker 3: to your head coach, now you maybe can dump off
- 5:20Speaker 3: in the collector.
- 5:21Speaker 2: So we can get a chance to play big money business.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Do some big money things.
- 5:26Speaker 3: So those, just off the top of my head, those
- 5:28Speaker 3: are the two names. And I know fans are like, well,
- 5:31Speaker 3: we don't want to go. Well, you got to understand something, fans.
- 5:33Speaker 3: You got to be able to accept what you can afford.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Financially or what makes the most financial sense? I don't
- 5:39Speaker 3: want to do this what we just did with Mike
- 5:41Speaker 3: Novell I don't want to go to no group of
- 5:43Speaker 3: five and go get one of these head coaches They've
- 5:45Speaker 3: been doing great at one of these group of.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Five schools cuz now that ain't that no one is
- 5:49Speaker 2: different It's different no, it's not the.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Same the pressure is different the expectations are different No,
- 5:58Speaker 3: go get me someone who's used to who is accustomed
- 6:02Speaker 3: to the pressure to those expectations and for fans that say, well, what.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Happened at A & M? It didn't work out at
- 6:08Speaker 2: A & M. Well, it ain't working out well for
- 6:09Speaker 2: Mike Elko either right now.
- 6:11Speaker 1: It didn't work out for Mike Sumner prior to him either.
- 6:15Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 6:16Speaker 3: So everything is not going to be peaches and cream instantly.
- 6:20Speaker 3: But one thing we do know, look at the coaches
- 6:25Speaker 3: that have won national championships. There is the same. If
- 6:29Speaker 3: you go back the last 20 years, some of the
- 6:32Speaker 3: same names are surfacing.
- 6:33Speaker 2: It ain't like it's a plethora of different names or
- 6:35Speaker 2: different options. You know what I mean?
- 6:36Speaker 3: So that's my take right now, and, you know, we
- 6:39Speaker 3: got time to figure it out, and let's see what happens.
- 6:42Speaker 1: You make it like, and to your point, as far
- 6:45Speaker 1: as dumping money on coaches, Schumann is making two mil
- 6:49Speaker 1: at Georgia. So if you can throw three mil to
- 6:52Speaker 1: a coach, you should be able to get, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 1: elite product. Last question before I get you up out
- 6:56Speaker 1: of here. How quick do you think the turnaround could
- 6:58Speaker 1: be if we get the right coaching? We're still Florida State, right?
- 7:01Speaker 1: And with today's game with the transfer portal, it could
- 7:03Speaker 1: be just like that. So, here's a quick opinion. How
- 7:06Speaker 1: quickly do you think Noah's could get back on track?
- 7:09Speaker 3: I think it can happen quickly. But it starts, the
- 7:13Speaker 3: most key thing we have to hit on is a quarterback.
- 7:17Speaker 2: It's a quarterback. And that's another thing that kind of
- 7:19Speaker 2: made me, bothered me with Mike Norvell. Oh, yeah.
- 7:24Speaker 3: You knew there was a lot at stake for you,
- 7:27Speaker 3: and you go pick Ashton Dames.
- 7:29Speaker 2: No disrespect to Ashton Dames, but.
- 7:34Speaker 3: I felt like there were better options based on what
- 7:37Speaker 3: these kids have done. You need to get you a
- 7:41Speaker 3: known prospect that can deliver right now instead of seeing
- 7:45Speaker 3: flashes of here or there. Because he wasn't really good
- 7:49Speaker 3: at Stanford, and on a four-win team last year at Auburn,
- 7:53Speaker 3: Most said he wasn't even the best quarterback.
- 7:55Speaker 2: He was a true freshman.
- 7:57Speaker 3: You know, so if we, regardless of who the new
- 8:01Speaker 3: head coach is in this staff, the one thing we
- 8:03Speaker 3: got to hit on is quarterback. College football is very,
- 8:05Speaker 3: very simple.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you this much. If you've got
- 8:09Speaker 2: a good quarterback and a good coach, you're going to
- 8:12Speaker 2: win ball games. You're going to be really, really good.
- 8:15Speaker 2: You're going to be competitive.
- 8:16Speaker 3: If you've got a great quarterback and a good coach,
- 8:18Speaker 3: you're going to compete for championships, right? If you got
- 8:21Speaker 3: a great coach and a good quarterback, you're going to
- 8:23Speaker 3: compete for championships.
- 8:24Speaker 2: It ain't that hard. It ain't that hard.
- 8:28Speaker 3: You look at the teams right now, CJ, that are
- 8:31Speaker 3: in that championship conversation, they got one or the other.
- 8:36Speaker 2: It ain't that hard.
- 8:38Speaker 3: And then before Ashton, Jimbo, you went out, I mean,
- 8:40Speaker 3: I'm sorry, not Jimbo, Novell, you went out and got
- 8:43Speaker 3: Tommy Castellanos. No knock on Tommy, but I feel like this, CJ.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I don't want anything that Boston College don't want.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I'm just being real, right? That's an ACC team. Yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 2: we flow the state.
- 9:03Speaker 3: If Boston College didn't want him or any other position,
- 9:07Speaker 3: any other position, why do we?
- 9:10Speaker 2: At this point, you are who you are. So that's it.
- 9:13Speaker 2: So we hit on a quarterback and we get together
- 9:16Speaker 2: a staff that can go ahead and go out and recruit.
- 9:20Speaker 2: and sell water to a well, we're gonna be good.
- 9:23Speaker 3: We're gonna be good. You know what changed for Miami?
- 9:26Speaker 3: When Cam Ward didn't go to Florida State and he
- 9:27Speaker 3: went to Miami?
- 9:30Speaker 1: The rest is history. Everything changed from there.
