- 0:20Speaker 1: Welcome to jag Zam this morning. I'm ka Nannie Stevens,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Brian Sexton, John Osier with me today. We're coming to
- 0:25Speaker 1: you from the UK as the Jaguars at their first
- 0:28Speaker 1: game in the UK. They're gonna play again here at
- 0:30Speaker 1: Wembley Stadium on Sunday and no way to sugarcoat it
- 0:33Speaker 1: a very tough loss against the Bears on Sunday at
- 0:37Speaker 1: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. We're gonna start out with our big
- 0:40Speaker 1: things and number one big thing was drop off. We
- 0:43Speaker 1: saw some drops. This team has dealt with drops throughout
- 0:46Speaker 1: the season from receivers. Trevor Lawrence talked about that issue
- 0:49Speaker 1: but said more than anything, this team needs to learn
- 0:51Speaker 1: how to bounce back.
- 0:54Speaker 2: It's a long game, you know. I think as a
- 0:55Speaker 2: team like we have to be we can't be so fragile.
- 0:58Speaker 2: You know, it's like it's not going to go perfect
- 1:01Speaker 2: every week. You know, most weeks aren't going to go perfect.
- 1:04Speaker 2: You're going to have to sometimes dig yourself out of
- 1:06Speaker 2: a hole. You know. We got down in the second
- 1:09Speaker 2: quarter and had an opportunity to come out a halftime
- 1:11Speaker 2: and didn't take advantage of it. So no, I don't
- 1:14Speaker 2: think that that was. I mean, obviously you look back,
- 1:17Speaker 2: every play matters, and we had plenty of mistakes, but no,
- 1:20Speaker 2: I don't think that that was a huge momentum shift.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Obviously you'd love to make it, but no, it's.
- 1:26Speaker 3: On all of us.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Brian, Trevor Lawrence was talking there specifically about Gabe Davis's
- 1:31Speaker 1: drop in the end zone on that first possession for
- 1:33Speaker 1: the Jaguars where things were going well, they had to
- 1:35Speaker 1: settle for a field goal went downhill from there. I
- 1:37Speaker 1: don't think it. I agree with Trevor in the sense it.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I don't think it was that play alone, but they
- 1:41Speaker 1: cannot find a way to bounce back when they make
- 1:43Speaker 1: some of these mistakes.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Well, he's been preaching what I've been saying. The lack
- 1:48Speaker 4: of resilience here is just crushing. I don't know whether
- 1:52Speaker 4: he said it or whether it was Doug that said
- 1:53Speaker 4: it yesterday after the game, John, but the fragility.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Is a problem, eh.
- 1:58Speaker 4: And I do think that that was a huge, huge play,
- 2:00Speaker 4: and I get it that there were many more plays there,
- 2:02Speaker 4: but I think I would have thrown my helmet if
- 2:04Speaker 4: I were Trevor in disgust because he put that ball.
- 2:07Speaker 4: If you recall John on first and goal from the
- 2:10Speaker 4: eight yard line, gave jumps off sides, so now it's
- 2:13Speaker 4: first and goal from the thirteen. They overcome it, and
- 2:15Speaker 4: on third down and goal, he puts the ball right
- 2:20Speaker 4: on the numbers and the fourteen million dollar wide receiver
- 2:25Speaker 4: drops it. So if Trevor's not gonna be disgusted at least,
- 2:28Speaker 4: I am, yeah, catch the ball right, give this team
- 2:31Speaker 4: a chance to win. The owner, the fans, everybody's out
- 2:35Speaker 4: there and put a lot of time and money and
- 2:37Speaker 4: effort into this thing. And the coach kept saying, well,
- 2:39Speaker 4: these guys have too well, prove it. Catch the damn ball.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Yeah it. It shouldn't have cost him the game, and
- 2:46Speaker 5: it didn't cost him the game. But you had a chance, right.
- 2:51Speaker 5: It's a league of plays and playmakers, and in that
- 2:55Speaker 5: moment you're in the red zone, you have a chance
- 2:57Speaker 5: to you know, you're not post to get a touchdown
- 3:01Speaker 5: on third and twelve in that situation.
- 3:03Speaker 3: That's hard.
- 3:04Speaker 5: But the quarterback puts the ball in the right spot.
- 3:07Speaker 5: And Trevor definitely was the one who said it, because
- 3:10Speaker 5: he said it over and over again in his pressure.
- 3:12Speaker 5: This team is fragile. I don't know why they're fragile,
- 3:15Speaker 5: but for the last twelve games, they haven't made that
- 3:18Speaker 5: play in that situation. And guys, didn't you get the
- 3:21Speaker 5: feeling when it hit seven to three because they didn't
- 3:28Speaker 5: you know, a the Bears were running it looked like that.
- 3:32Speaker 5: But they haven't shown at all in the last three
- 3:35Speaker 5: months of season like they're gonna come back from four
- 3:38Speaker 5: points down. And that shouldn't be that way, kay.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I know that Trevor says that his personality is not
- 3:44Speaker 4: such to get in guys faces, right, and he's got
- 3:47Speaker 4: to leave his own way. He's not gonna be able
- 3:49Speaker 4: to change himself too dramatically, at least he doesn't believe
- 3:52Speaker 4: that he can't. But until we stop hearing after the game, well,
- 3:56Speaker 4: they're not going to catch every ball, right, Guys are
- 3:58Speaker 4: going to make mistakes. Until we started hearing, you can't
- 4:01Speaker 4: make that mistake, right. The edge that this team is
- 4:05Speaker 4: not playing with that it needs to play with to
- 4:07Speaker 4: overcome the mistakes is never just going to magically materialize.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Somebody is going to have to pull it forward by
- 4:14Speaker 4: saying not throwing it again, right, I mean, someone's going
- 4:18Speaker 4: to have to take dramatic measures so that somebody goes, oh, hell,
- 4:23Speaker 4: I better not drop.
- 4:24Speaker 3: That ball again.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Unfortunately, if you say that, though, you'd have to say
- 4:27Speaker 1: it's about three or four people yesterday because it wasn't
- 4:30Speaker 1: just gave Davis. There was a lot of drops and
- 4:33Speaker 1: mistakes that we'll go to big thing number two, which
- 4:35Speaker 1: was too many. There were too many men on the
- 4:38Speaker 1: field at one point on a drive where they had
- 4:40Speaker 1: too many penalties three third downs that they could have
- 4:43Speaker 1: gotten themselves off the field. The defense had penalties. Doug
- 4:45Speaker 1: Peterson talked about that after the game.
- 4:49Speaker 6: Yeah, those are you know, those are penalties that really hurt.
- 4:54Speaker 6: You know. Again, it's the guys are taking nothing away
- 4:58Speaker 6: from the players and they're playing hard doing they're they're
- 5:00Speaker 6: putting everything out on the field, you know, and we'll
- 5:06Speaker 6: just keep we keep talking, We'll just keep we keep
- 5:08Speaker 6: showing them. We'll uh you know, you know, we had
- 5:12Speaker 6: the twelve men on the field, and that's substitution change.
- 5:15Speaker 6: I mean, it's something you know that's I put that
- 5:17Speaker 6: one on us as coaches, you know, that's on us.
- 5:20Speaker 6: You know, so everybody has a piece of this. You know.
- 5:24Speaker 6: It's not just it's not just coaching, not just player.
- 5:26Speaker 6: It's all of us.
- 5:29Speaker 1: John, there's a lot of frustration with this team right now.
- 5:31Speaker 1: This is the one that gets me. It's the penalties,
- 5:33Speaker 1: It's this, it's the self inflicted, undisciplined mistakes. Because yes
- 5:37Speaker 1: there'll be drops, yes they'll be misplays, but those things
- 5:40Speaker 1: are so there. Those should not ever be an issue.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Once you get past high school, you should not be
- 5:44Speaker 1: making the kind of mistakes that they're making in the
- 5:47Speaker 1: most crucial times.
- 5:48Speaker 5: Look, Doug just then showed it. He showed it on
- 5:51Speaker 5: the conference call. Uh, when he talked today, I don't
- 5:55Speaker 5: know what there is to say, and he'll be asked
- 5:57Speaker 5: a question, you know, kind of pause because he's trying
- 5:59Speaker 5: to figure out what he's supposed to say, and I
- 6:02Speaker 5: think the answer is, I don't know. I mean, you know,
- 6:05Speaker 5: at some point, the mistakes that are being made, how
- 6:09Speaker 5: do you coach not to hold in that situation? How
- 6:11Speaker 5: do you coach? You know, now, the twelve minute on
- 6:14Speaker 5: the field thing that is coaching, because the coaches are
- 6:18Speaker 5: telling the players which ones to go in. That's a
- 6:20Speaker 5: disorganization on the sidelines. That hasn't been a season long thing,
- 6:24Speaker 5: you know, but in that moment it happened. If I'm
- 6:27Speaker 5: the Bears on that drive, right, And Brian, you wrote
- 6:30Speaker 5: about it, I wrote about I wrote about it. You're
- 6:34Speaker 5: the game is teetering again, it's an eleven point game
- 6:38Speaker 5: and trayvone gets a big time sack and it gets
- 6:40Speaker 5: taken away h third down a hold, later on another
- 6:45Speaker 5: three down a hold. If I'm the Bears this morning,
- 6:47Speaker 5: I'm laughing at that and saying, well, at some point
- 6:49Speaker 5: we're gonna go ahead and score, because we tried not
- 6:51Speaker 5: to five times and they gave them points there and
- 6:55Speaker 5: it it really, uh, it defined this season in the
- 7:00Speaker 5: lot of ways. And you know, at one in five
- 7:04Speaker 5: they're a bad team, and that was really bad football
- 7:07Speaker 5: for a drive in a drive in a game of
- 7:09Speaker 5: bad football, right.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Can you zoom in?
- 7:12Speaker 4: Just the look of disgusts on my face should say
- 7:15Speaker 4: it all. I can't add anything else except to say
- 7:18Speaker 4: that that was a moment where you could have remarkably,
- 7:22Speaker 4: even after the way that I'm so fired up to
- 7:25Speaker 4: that the second half started, right and you're down fourteen
- 7:30Speaker 4: to three, you're still in the game. Remarkably, you're down
- 7:32Speaker 4: twenty one to three, and Trevor gets you back to
- 7:35Speaker 4: a position where you have a little bit of momentum,
- 7:37Speaker 4: and then Treyvon Walker comes through with a huge playing effect.
- 7:39Speaker 4: The Jaguars got two sacks in three plays from the
- 7:42Speaker 4: front four. If they had taken back control, yeah right,
- 7:45Speaker 4: they were right there. And then it's almost if you said,
- 7:47Speaker 4: you know what, this is what we do and that's
- 7:50Speaker 4: the problem. This is what this team does. It drops
- 7:54Speaker 4: the ball, it makes a mistake. I don't care who's
- 7:57Speaker 4: to blame on this, and I get it. Doug's gotta
- 8:00Speaker 4: be calm in that situation postgame. It doesn't do any good.
- 8:03Speaker 4: But I'm there better be a huge burning flame inside
- 8:07Speaker 4: somebody better hear the wrath of that when they get
- 8:10Speaker 4: back on the practice field because and I'm going to
- 8:13Speaker 4: talk about this a little bit later in Hot Takes
- 8:15Speaker 4: the way that they're coaching millennials these days, and Doug
- 8:19Speaker 4: referred to that the week of the Colts game when
- 8:21Speaker 4: he was asked about Tom Kauughlin style. Hell, it ain't
- 8:24Speaker 4: working here right now, So maybe there has to be
- 8:27Speaker 4: a little bit more edge from the coaches to get
- 8:29Speaker 4: the edge out of the players. I may be oversimplifying it,
- 8:33Speaker 4: but Johnny and you said it. You know what else
- 8:36Speaker 4: is he supposed to say. It isn't what he says now,
- 8:39Speaker 4: it's how he says that.
- 8:40Speaker 5: I think the problem with that drive it was awful.
- 8:43Speaker 5: It cost him the game, and it was it was
- 8:47Speaker 5: almost mind blowingly bad, and it didn't surprise him.
- 8:51Speaker 3: It didn't.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And I think that's the most frustrating part.
- 8:53Speaker 5: I didn't expect that, and I don't like saying it,
- 8:55Speaker 5: but that's I wasn't surprised when the Bears scored on
- 8:58Speaker 5: that drive, even though the your thing it happened because
- 9:01Speaker 5: it fits what they've done all year.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Our final big thing today is gonna be blame game,
- 9:05Speaker 1: because I think at this point it is not just
- 9:06Speaker 1: one issue. We've talked about this for weeks now. At
- 9:09Speaker 1: this point, it's it's front office, it's coaching, it's players
- 9:13Speaker 1: not making plays. Brian, when you look at this, how
- 9:16Speaker 1: when it feels like it's every little part of it,
- 9:17Speaker 1: how do you kind of fix it in when you're
- 9:19Speaker 1: in the midst of it.
- 9:20Speaker 4: It's Uh, when you're in the midst of it, you
- 9:24Speaker 4: you really have to dial your focus in here and
- 9:27Speaker 4: be laser focused on the Patriots because you can't go
- 9:30Speaker 4: back and change what happened yesterday and you can't start
- 9:33Speaker 4: thinking about the Packers and the Eagles and the Vikings
- 9:36Speaker 4: that are coming up in the weeks ahead. You've got
- 9:38Speaker 4: to get your team absolutely dialed in. And that's the
- 9:43Speaker 4: scenario you're in here, you know, at the grove outside London.
- 9:47Speaker 4: You know, players, no family. You're gonna have Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
- 9:52Speaker 4: and it has to be all about ball, all about
- 9:57Speaker 4: ball and John the way the these players probably feel,
- 10:02Speaker 4: if we are frustrated by what we're seeing, what many
- 10:06Speaker 4: of them are enduring is probably very, very similar. So
- 10:10Speaker 4: it shouldn't be that difficult to get these guys to
- 10:13Speaker 4: go beyond the regular work day and to be focused
- 10:17Speaker 4: in the film room, you know, on their iPads, whatever
- 10:19Speaker 4: it takes to get more this week. When you can
- 10:22Speaker 4: get more, because when you get home next week, you're
- 10:24Speaker 4: falling right back into the Hey, they leave the building
- 10:26Speaker 4: at four thirty and then you don't have the opportunity
- 10:28Speaker 4: to necessarily get more. So you better get more right now.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:32Speaker 5: And the playing game, Look, when you're one and five,
- 10:36Speaker 5: everything gets blamed.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Everybody's at fall.
- 10:39Speaker 5: It's like Doug's after the game and Trevor, Look, there's
- 10:42Speaker 5: plenty to go around.
- 10:46Speaker 3: What do you do?
- 10:46Speaker 5: You focus on the Patriots and you try to go in.
- 10:49Speaker 5: That's the nice thing the NFL sort of forces you to,
- 10:53Speaker 5: even if you know it's going bad. As a player
- 10:56Speaker 5: and a coach, there is an element on Wednesday morning,
- 10:59Speaker 5: what what are we gonna do about it? We're getting
- 11:02Speaker 5: paid to go do this. May as well go do
- 11:04Speaker 5: the best we can.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Uh.
- 11:07Speaker 5: Yeah, and you got you got a loss, and I
- 11:10Speaker 5: think everybody is. And you've got eleven more eleven whether
- 11:13Speaker 5: you like it or not, not three more to finish.
- 11:15Speaker 5: You've got eleven more. You want to feel this way
- 11:18Speaker 5: on eleven more? Mondays you don't, So the focus had
- 11:22Speaker 5: better be on not Sometimes when you focus, you're focusing
- 11:25Speaker 5: on what you don't want right as much as what
- 11:27Speaker 5: you do. You're gonna focus on winning because you don't
- 11:29Speaker 5: want the losing.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Don't want to lose.
- 11:31Speaker 3: You don't want to feel that, all right?
- 11:32Speaker 1: Coming back on Jagsam after the break, we're gonna look
- 11:35Speaker 1: at the tape because we talk about it all the time.
- 11:36Speaker 1: You got to go back and look at it and
- 11:38Speaker 1: see where they can fix things.
- 11:44Speaker 6: Defeated, Obviously, I feel feel for the players and the
- 11:48Speaker 6: coaches we work we work extremely too hard, you know,
- 11:51Speaker 6: to be in this position. I feel like I feel
- 11:54Speaker 6: like the guys are you know, they don't quit and
- 11:57Speaker 6: they keep fighting. We got to figure out how to
- 12:02Speaker 6: just get out of our.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Way feeling defeated. After that one, the Jaguars fall to
- 12:08Speaker 1: one and five. We're gonna look at the tape because
- 12:10Speaker 1: some of it frustrating to watch after the fact. But
- 12:13Speaker 1: let's talk a little bit about what we're exactly seeing
- 12:15Speaker 1: out there. As we discussed that first drive of the game,
- 12:17Speaker 1: the offense looked okay driving down the field until we
- 12:20Speaker 1: get to the red zone, which has been a huge
- 12:22Speaker 1: issue for them. Two false star penalties and then the drop.
- 12:25Speaker 1: It felt like that was the little bit of the
- 12:28Speaker 1: beginning to unravel. Because when you see these communication issues
- 12:32Speaker 1: that we've talked about being a problem, and it's a
- 12:34Speaker 1: repeated problem, it's never just a one off. It's two
- 12:37Speaker 1: times in the same drive and then a drop. It's
- 12:40Speaker 1: multiplying upon itself.
- 12:41Speaker 4: In this case, though, I thought the Jaguars were up
- 12:43Speaker 4: to it on Sunday at Tottenham because they overcame it.
- 12:47Speaker 4: They overcame Strange and then they overcame Davis and they
- 12:51Speaker 4: put the ball in the end zone in the receiver stands.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I thought as they were driving down the field, in fact,
- 12:56Speaker 4: they was sitting next to you, and I mentioned, looks
- 12:58Speaker 4: like they've got.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Something here today. And then the ball hits the ground
- 13:02Speaker 3: and it's only three nothing, and well that's hown I did.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a nice drive. And I said, it's
- 13:10Speaker 5: hard to score in the red zone on third and long.
- 13:13Speaker 3: I mean it.
- 13:14Speaker 5: And this was a nice pass and a nice play
- 13:18Speaker 5: he got open, you know, and.
- 13:21Speaker 3: It was.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Yeah, we've talked about it, we have yes, all right,
- 13:27Speaker 5: and I'm laughing because it happens every week. So what
- 13:31Speaker 5: are you gonna say?
- 13:32Speaker 1: All right, let's talk a little bit about the defense.
- 13:34Speaker 1: We know the secondary has been an issue. We saw
- 13:36Speaker 1: the Bears able to kind of convert early on third down,
- 13:40Speaker 1: get that first touchdown. Comet had two touchdowns in the game.
- 13:44Speaker 1: But with the defense at this point, we thought the
- 13:48Speaker 1: first couple of games they were doing all right. It's
- 13:50Speaker 1: been not that since then. And is it lack of
- 13:53Speaker 1: effort at this point? We know they're dealing with injuries,
- 13:55Speaker 1: but some of these some of the stuff, it doesn't
- 13:57Speaker 1: look like there's a ton of effort on the back well.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Usually on stuff like this, when it goes this bad,
- 14:05Speaker 5: it's not the guys aren't trying. It's that they're not
- 14:08Speaker 5: staying within the defense. And you you go and you're
- 14:13Speaker 5: trying to make a play, and everybody says it's effort. Yes,
- 14:17Speaker 5: there were a couple of plays that didn't look like
- 14:19Speaker 5: lack of effort, but for the most part, it's going
- 14:21Speaker 5: off on your own because you're not believing that what
- 14:26Speaker 5: is being asked of you is enough, and it's it's
- 14:31Speaker 5: it's usually the problem when you get to about one
- 14:33Speaker 5: in four, one and five is you play a little
- 14:36Speaker 5: bit of hero ball and try to do it yourself.
- 14:38Speaker 5: And it's not a it's not a thing Brian, where
- 14:42Speaker 5: the players are trying to do the wrong thing. They're
- 14:46Speaker 5: trying to do too much and they're not staying within
- 14:48Speaker 5: what they're supposed to do. And it's it's always the
- 14:52Speaker 5: case in my experience with a team that's going bad.
- 14:55Speaker 5: It is certainly the case with this team right now.
- 14:57Speaker 5: You can see it on the defense, heard on the offense.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Guys are trying to do too much and there are
- 15:03Speaker 5: situations where they're not where they're supposed to be. This
- 15:07Speaker 5: is where the focus that we talked about's got to
- 15:09Speaker 5: get dialed in. The coaches have got to get these
- 15:11Speaker 5: guys all on the same page so that when the
- 15:14Speaker 5: quarterback hits his back foot, everyone's where they're supposed to be.
- 15:17Speaker 5: So when the defense is lined up and the middle
- 15:19Speaker 5: linebackers got everybody with their assignment, they know what they're
- 15:22Speaker 5: supposed to do.
- 15:23Speaker 4: They've got to get back to doing what they do
- 15:26Speaker 4: right what this team can count on, and right now,
- 15:29Speaker 4: even the things that it can count on, guy have
- 15:31Speaker 4: not been dependable.
- 15:32Speaker 1: They got their first defensive turnover of the season, which
- 15:35Speaker 1: is far too it in the season beginning. But andre
- 15:37Speaker 1: Cisco had an interception. I think at that point I
- 15:39Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, they does that was a
- 15:40Speaker 1: little bit of like their head was above water for
- 15:42Speaker 1: a second there, and andre Cisco, talking to Brent Martineau
- 15:47Speaker 1: after the game at extra Jack, said he felt like
- 15:49Speaker 1: some of his teammates weren't you know, they kind of
- 15:52Speaker 1: quitting at the end. They saw a quit in the team.
- 15:55Speaker 1: How do you fix that when we are but six
- 15:58Speaker 1: schemes into this thing.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Well, again, I don't know that quitting is necessarily the
- 16:07Speaker 5: issue as much as not playing hard. Within the dynamic
- 16:13Speaker 5: of how you're supposed to play. Are there moments in
- 16:16Speaker 5: the second half of a game like that where you
- 16:19Speaker 5: know it's over, you know you that your preparation has
- 16:23Speaker 5: not done what it was supposed to do, where you
- 16:26Speaker 5: let down on a play, human emotion comes in. Yes,
- 16:31Speaker 5: you do see that.
- 16:32Speaker 7: Overall.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Do I think this is a team that is quit? No,
- 16:35Speaker 5: but I do think the reality is the Bears. The
- 16:39Speaker 5: Jaguars rolled them in the first quarter, and then the
- 16:42Speaker 5: Bears came back and rolled them. After that, the Bears adjusted,
- 16:45Speaker 5: And what I'm going to say is not that the
- 16:47Speaker 5: Jaggars didn't try to adjust, but my experience is the
- 16:51Speaker 5: Bears came out and when a team comes out and says, oh,
- 16:53Speaker 5: this team's doing this to us, the Bears adjusted back
- 16:56Speaker 5: and the Jaggage didn't have an answer. Means the Bears
- 16:59Speaker 5: are better than the Jaguar and they didn't have an
- 17:01Speaker 5: answer because they're better. And if that's not true, if
- 17:03Speaker 5: that's not what's happening, then the Jaguars need to prove
- 17:05Speaker 5: that statement wrong.
- 17:07Speaker 3: We're gonna find out what the players think. I mean.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Because Andre Cisco was willing to go on record and
- 17:13Speaker 4: say what he thought. Guys have been called out, even
- 17:17Speaker 4: if it just seems like an innocuous Sunday night after
- 17:19Speaker 4: a lost frustration, guys now know that people are questioning
- 17:24Speaker 4: that the question came up, and Doug Peterson's a zoom
- 17:27Speaker 4: teleconference earlier today, so it's out there now. At least
- 17:30Speaker 4: one Jaguar thinks that the other Jaguars aren't playing as well,
- 17:33Speaker 4: aren't playing all the way through. So now it's a
- 17:36Speaker 4: storyline and one that they'll have to address, and one
- 17:38Speaker 4: that they'll have to as John just said, prove, Oh,
- 17:41Speaker 4: let's chip ahead.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I do want to give some credit where credits do.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Evan Ingram back in his first game since dealing with
- 17:47Speaker 1: his hamstring injury, I think makes a play that we
- 17:50Speaker 1: have not seen him make in terms of the fumble
- 17:52Speaker 1: that really that was it at that point if you
- 17:54Speaker 1: thought they were gonna come out in the third quarter
- 17:56Speaker 1: with anything, that kind of sealed the deal. The Bears
- 17:58Speaker 1: went down and got a touchdown after that, but they
- 18:01Speaker 1: went back to him several times after that. He ended
- 18:03Speaker 1: up with over one hundred yards. And that is what
- 18:05Speaker 1: I'm talking about when I say I need to see
- 18:07Speaker 1: a resilience in somebody Brian, you use that word quite frequently,
- 18:10Speaker 1: but to say completely uncharacteristic of what we've seen of
- 18:14Speaker 1: Evan in Jacksonville for him to fumble but then to
- 18:17Speaker 1: say give me the ball. I want the ball back,
- 18:20Speaker 1: And there's not enough of that on this team, in
- 18:21Speaker 1: my opinion. I think there's a lot of when I
- 18:24Speaker 1: make a play, I want to kind of sit and
- 18:26Speaker 1: wallow in it in a in the sense of instead
- 18:30Speaker 1: of going back out and saying, give me the ball back,
- 18:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna make up for what happened, and that's not
- 18:34Speaker 1: going to happen again.
- 18:35Speaker 4: He is the classic case of a guy who hates
- 18:38Speaker 4: losing more than he loves winning, right, And you need
- 18:43Speaker 4: more guys like that who are driven to get back
- 18:47Speaker 4: to the next play to prove that that's who they.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Are and what they're capable of.
- 18:52Speaker 4: You know, I thought on the next offensive series, the
- 18:54Speaker 4: Jacks Werbers still get They went down the field and
- 18:57Speaker 4: Trevor found gave Davis, who caught it back time and
- 19:00Speaker 4: they were right back in there. And then you had
- 19:03Speaker 4: the twelve man on the field penalty and the resilience
- 19:06Speaker 4: washed away.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Yeah, that fumble, much like Travis is in the first game,
- 19:11Speaker 5: sometimes you fumble. It didn't look to me like Evan
- 19:14Speaker 5: was being careless. He was in a funny spot to
- 19:17Speaker 5: get hit, and the guy hit the ball out. Evan
- 19:20Speaker 5: was trying to get his hand over. So sometimes you know,
- 19:25Speaker 5: if you handle the ball enough in the NFL, you're
- 19:28Speaker 5: going to fumble. And I think he is resilient. I
- 19:30Speaker 5: don't think that play is as indicative of what's going
- 19:34Speaker 5: on as other plays. I thought that was a excusably
- 19:40Speaker 5: not excusable because he can't fumble, but an understandable mistake
- 19:43Speaker 5: within a myriad of other things that weren't as understandable.
- 19:45Speaker 4: He's one of their most important players, and he had
- 19:49Speaker 4: a big day with a big mistake. How he responds
- 19:52Speaker 4: on the practice field this week, how he acts, how
- 19:55Speaker 4: he prepares for the Patriots, will be a great example
- 19:59Speaker 4: to the his teammates about how you have to be
- 20:01Speaker 4: a pro.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I agree, and I said the loss of him the
- 20:04Speaker 1: last couple of weeks, even more so than on the field,
- 20:07Speaker 1: has been his leadership. I've noticed the last couple of
- 20:09Speaker 1: games he was traveling with the team. He's very involved,
- 20:11Speaker 1: obviously with Brenton Strange in terms of preparation, and that
- 20:14Speaker 1: is a factor. That's smith you need more than one
- 20:17Speaker 1: of Evan Ingram, you need several on your roster, and
- 20:19Speaker 1: hopefully that's something that can spread as this goes along.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Let's take one more look at that drive we talked
- 20:24Speaker 1: about with the three penalties, where the Bears were just, uh,
- 20:28Speaker 1: somehow gonna find a way into the end zone after
- 20:30Speaker 1: the Jaguars couldn't get off the field on those third downs.
- 20:33Speaker 1: For me, that's you know, twelve min on the field.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Obviously that's coaching substitutions issues there, But then just how
- 20:40Speaker 1: do you keep the defense together when you see one
- 20:44Speaker 1: group excelling and another group isn't able to kind of
- 20:47Speaker 1: even help them out in those senses because of the
- 20:49Speaker 1: penalty situation.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Anybody answer, Hey, keeping together? You just keep playing hard
- 20:57Speaker 5: and you keep saying to do your job. Not I'm
- 21:01Speaker 5: not sure there's a magic formula for keen together. I'm
- 21:04Speaker 5: not and I'm not sure they're not together. I think
- 21:07Speaker 5: they're just making these mistakes that like really really important
- 21:11Speaker 5: times and sometimes mistakes not necessarily Ronald Darby specifically here.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Sometimes mistakes is when you're getting beat. So sometimes you
- 21:23Speaker 5: hold when you have to hold to make the play
- 21:26Speaker 5: not happen, so very unfortunate, and as I said earlier,
- 21:32Speaker 5: a very indicative drive of the season because you had
- 21:36Speaker 5: multiple opportunities to climb out of this and you couldn't
- 21:39Speaker 5: on that drive.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Even when Tyson Campbell comes back, you still have a
- 21:42Speaker 4: secondary that is going to have some weak spots.
- 21:46Speaker 3: The only way for the.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Jaguars to overcome the weak spots is for that defense
- 21:52Speaker 4: to do what John has said all season they have
- 21:55Speaker 4: to do.
- 21:56Speaker 3: They've got to dominate the front.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Right, You've got guys who are capable, especially on the outside.
- 22:02Speaker 4: You saw yesterday what Josh and what Trayvon did on
- 22:07Speaker 4: that one drive where they needed it right, they gave
- 22:09Speaker 4: them two sacks in three plays. The other guys up
- 22:13Speaker 4: front that they got to get more out of Eric Armstead.
- 22:16Speaker 4: But the front is going to determine how good this
- 22:17Speaker 4: defense is going to be the rest of the way.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Either they play closer to their potential and this defense does,
- 22:24Speaker 4: or they don't and this defense doesn't.
- 22:27Speaker 1: All right, to stay with you, we're gonna have some
- 22:28Speaker 1: hot takes for you coming up after the break here
- 22:30Speaker 1: on Jack's Am. Welcome back into Jagg's Am. This morning.
- 22:36Speaker 1: We're gonna give you our firehouse subs, fire hot takes.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I don't know how hot they're all gonna be, but Brian,
- 22:42Speaker 1: what's your hot.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Take for Listen, Everything coming out of my mouth today,
- 22:45Speaker 4: unfortunately is hot because I just I'd had enough so
- 22:52Speaker 4: old school tactics, right, There's not a lot you can
- 22:54Speaker 4: do that truly is old school anymore. The collective bargaining
- 22:59Speaker 4: agreement restraint so much about how many days you can
- 23:02Speaker 4: practice and practice in pads and it. But there's one thing,
- 23:06Speaker 4: and Doug Peterson was asked the week of the Colts game,
- 23:08Speaker 4: you know about Tom Kauughlin who went into the Pride
- 23:10Speaker 4: of the Jaguars that week and his style of coaching.
- 23:13Speaker 4: And the answer really struck me John, because Doug said
- 23:16Speaker 4: that he was coached by guys who employed Tom Coughlin's methods,
- 23:22Speaker 4: but he didn't think you could still use those methods anymore.
- 23:26Speaker 4: And one of the things that he cited that day
- 23:28Speaker 4: was that you couldn't get into a meeting room and
- 23:30Speaker 4: put the plays up on the board and call guys
- 23:33Speaker 4: out in front of their teammates. Well, that's the old
- 23:38Speaker 4: school tactic I think needs to happen this week, you know,
- 23:41Speaker 4: for the reasons that you talked about for Andre Cisco
- 23:44Speaker 4: who who was talking earlier. These younger players can't be
- 23:48Speaker 4: babied through this process. The hard truth of it is,
- 23:51Speaker 4: it's a tough game for tough men, and this is
- 23:53Speaker 4: not a tough team right now. Nobody needs to be
- 23:55Speaker 4: told that. We can see that you want a tougher team. Hey, listen,
- 23:59Speaker 4: call it out right. You missed here? What are we
- 24:02Speaker 4: doing over here? Why aren't we here? The accountability word
- 24:05Speaker 4: is one that is tossed around all the time, but
- 24:08Speaker 4: accountability doesn't exist unless you actually hold someone accountable. And
- 24:11Speaker 4: the only way you're gonna do that is be tough
- 24:13Speaker 4: with these guys. And so I would like to see
- 24:15Speaker 4: old school tactics. I would like to see that edge
- 24:19Speaker 4: return to this football team. Tough game for tough men,
- 24:22Speaker 4: be tough on them.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Yeah, And I don't disagree with that, and it would
- 24:28Speaker 5: be nice if you could do that. I don't know
- 24:30Speaker 5: if they feel like they can, and mine sort of
- 24:33Speaker 5: reflects that. I'm not sure there is anything to do,
- 24:35Speaker 5: and so not much to say, a whole lot of
- 24:39Speaker 5: work to do, and I wonder how you do it
- 24:42Speaker 5: at one in five and it's I wish I had
- 24:47Speaker 5: a better answer than that, But six games in, there
- 24:49Speaker 5: don't seem to be any answers. But there's a lot
- 24:53Speaker 5: of work, and I'm not sure that it's any one
- 24:55Speaker 5: particular area. It's why I said much to do. It's everywhere.
- 24:59Speaker 5: It was off defensive line yesterday, it was defensive lines,
- 25:02Speaker 5: receivers not catching balls. I like Brian's answer better. I
- 25:06Speaker 5: hope they can do that. I hope they can get
- 25:08Speaker 5: tough with these guys, and I hope you can have
- 25:10Speaker 5: you know, accountability in this thing. Does that mean you're
- 25:13Speaker 5: gonna cut eight guys? That's what fans always want, So
- 25:17Speaker 5: there has to be somewhere to hold accountable somewhere, you know,
- 25:21Speaker 5: a lot to do, has a lot to do with that.
- 25:26Speaker 5: I'm more hopeful, or I wish I was more hopeful
- 25:31Speaker 5: that they could get it done. And after five games
- 25:34Speaker 5: of sort of seeing this usually be the pattern, I
- 25:37Speaker 5: kind of wonder. I hope they prove us wrong.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Brian. I'm a little bit different from your perspective because
- 25:43Speaker 1: I think you're still mad. I'm not mad. I'm disappointed,
- 25:47Speaker 1: as the parental part of you is how I kind
- 25:49Speaker 1: of look at this.
- 25:50Speaker 3: My disappointment just manifests itself different than you.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Sure, I'm a little disappointed because, to be honest, the
- 25:55Speaker 1: way teams are constructed, the way this team is constructed,
- 25:58Speaker 1: you expect this team to win. This is not a
- 26:00Speaker 1: team of the past where you're like, oh, the Jaguars
- 26:02Speaker 1: are being the Jaguars. Everyone knows. I came from New England.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I came from a fan base in Boston. You know,
- 26:07Speaker 1: people talk about Philly, people talk about New York. There
- 26:09Speaker 1: are high expectations at all times. There are not excuses.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I think the Jaguars fan base is now at that point. Hey,
- 26:15Speaker 1: we heard this is the best team ever assembled. We
- 26:17Speaker 1: have our quarterback, we have a coach that's won a
- 26:20Speaker 1: Super Bowl. We have expectations for this team. It's not
- 26:23Speaker 1: okay to be one in five at this point in
- 26:25Speaker 1: the season. And when you talk about accountability, sometimes it
- 26:29Speaker 1: comes from the outside of the building. If your fan
- 26:30Speaker 1: base isn't accepting of that, then you need to be
- 26:33Speaker 1: able to respond. I don't know what that's going to
- 26:35Speaker 1: look like exactly for this team. Obviously we're still early
- 26:37Speaker 1: in the season, but you're going to have to find
- 26:40Speaker 1: a way to respond to this because this is not
- 26:43Speaker 1: acceptable anymore. This is not something that is going to
- 26:45Speaker 1: be tolerated, I think by the fan base at all whatsoever.
- 26:49Speaker 1: And I think that's a good place to be if
- 26:50Speaker 1: you want to see change within this organization because what
- 26:53Speaker 1: is going on right now is not okay.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Well, what's gone on the last couple of weeks right
- 26:58Speaker 4: has it worked?
- 27:00Speaker 3: So let's be demanding change is good.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Let's demand all right, say with us here, we'll talk
- 27:04Speaker 1: to you about what's going on this week, what we
- 27:06Speaker 1: have going on in the UK, and what you're going
- 27:07Speaker 1: to see before the game on Sunday.
- 27:12Speaker 7: Since urgency must win. You know, we know we have
- 27:16Speaker 7: the trust and everybody in here, but this is the
- 27:20Speaker 7: urgency needs to pick up. The passion, the love, the
- 27:23Speaker 7: reason why we do the things that we do need
- 27:25Speaker 7: to need to pick up a little bit more. And
- 27:27Speaker 7: it starts to Tuesday, once we get back to practice
- 27:31Speaker 7: and you know, focus on the Patriots, and focus on
- 27:36Speaker 7: the Patriots.
- 27:37Speaker 1: That's next game up. And today is the player day
- 27:39Speaker 1: off this week. So they're going to be Tuesday through
- 27:41Speaker 1: Sunday football, football, football. They're all in the same building
- 27:44Speaker 1: and they're going to see each other every day. Brian,
- 27:46Speaker 1: I would argue that's the best case scenario for them
- 27:48Speaker 1: right now, because I don't want them to check out.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I want them to lock in.
- 27:51Speaker 3: No argument here.
- 27:52Speaker 4: I mean, this is the fortunate part of the circumstance
- 27:56Speaker 4: is is that they are together for the rest of
- 28:00Speaker 4: the week and there's probably gonna be some very frank conversations.
- 28:04Speaker 4: It might not have the edge that I would like
- 28:05Speaker 4: to hear, right, but they can't avoid what the tape
- 28:10Speaker 4: is going to show them, and so hopefully there's some
- 28:15Speaker 4: very difficult conversations that go on and it sparks a
- 28:19Speaker 4: change in the outcome.
- 28:20Speaker 5: On Sunday, John, Yeah, they're kicking off in Wembley, whether
- 28:23Speaker 5: they want to or not, so you may as well
- 28:25Speaker 5: get prepared. And it galvanized the team last year when
- 28:30Speaker 5: they were here. They won the first game and then
- 28:32Speaker 5: they won the second and they went on a winning streak.
- 28:36Speaker 5: That's the hope. And I get that people who are
- 28:40Speaker 5: watching this sort of laugh at that kind of hope,
- 28:43Speaker 5: but that's what they have right now. So I will
- 28:45Speaker 5: see what the week brings.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Time to plays with some passion, play with some pride.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I know everybody at home is frustrated. We are frustrated.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Too sit with it. This Monday, we're going to turn
- 28:54Speaker 1: the page. We'll be back with you for JAGXAM on
- 28:56Speaker 1: Wednesday and Thursday. Here in the UK's we talk patriots
- 28:59Speaker 1: and what they need to do to get a win.
- 29:00Speaker 5: Next week
- 29:30Speaker 3: Sh
