- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, presented by PrizePix.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont E. Jones. Thanks for listening. We're
- 0:11Speaker 1: here to get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:14Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:16Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:19Speaker 1: a hater. Here I was, thinking that since we did
- 0:22Speaker 1: a Monday show, we were done working for Monday, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: then Ryan sends me a text that says, LOL, J.J.
- 0:27Speaker 1: McCarthy did the Giants, and I'm like, what are you... Oh, man,
- 0:30Speaker 1: are you serious? Are they really doing this? And so...
- 0:35Speaker 1: I am very, I don't know. Confused is the right
- 0:38Speaker 1: way to put this. I mean, I think this is
- 0:39Speaker 1: a tricky situation for the giant. Okay. Entertaining though. We
- 0:45Speaker 1: all find James to be, he's sorry. They know he's sorry.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And they have a team that if the quarterback plays
- 0:55Speaker 1: decently has a legitimate chance to win the division or
- 0:59Speaker 1: at the very least make the playoffs, like things are
- 1:02Speaker 1: on the board. What are they? They're 2-1 right now.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It is... far too early to simply bail on the
- 1:09Speaker 1: season so it's like okay let's go get us a
- 1:12Speaker 1: quarterback now there was a world in which maybe the
- 1:15Speaker 1: move would be well you just wait for the raiders
- 1:18Speaker 1: to sorry up a little bit and then you go
- 1:21Speaker 1: get kurt cousins which i don't think is the greatest
- 1:23Speaker 1: idea in the world but it's very much on brand
- 1:25Speaker 1: for the giants he a little yes he a little
- 1:29Speaker 1: hokey though right like maybe phil sims was hokey like
- 1:32Speaker 1: that when he well i guess they had eli manning
- 1:33Speaker 1: too never mind um Anyway, the Raiders are not sorry
- 1:38Speaker 1: enough to allow that to happen, okay? So I guess
- 1:43Speaker 1: they decided to take the big swing on talent and
- 1:47Speaker 1: trade a fifth-round pick to get J.J. McCarthy. Or, I mean,
- 1:57Speaker 1: it's not off the board that these Giants owners... have
- 2:01Speaker 1: witnessed a couple of these Jameis interviews and were like,
- 2:03Speaker 1: hell no. He can't be the quarterback of my speaker.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Speaking of being a little hokey, they're like, yo, he
- 2:11Speaker 1: can't be the quarterback. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. This
- 2:13Speaker 1: ain't the face of our shit. No, no, no, no, no.
- 2:15Speaker 1: We didn't fire Ben McAdoo for playing Geno Smith to
- 2:19Speaker 1: let this cat be in front of what it is
- 2:22Speaker 1: we got going.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Nah, nah, nah.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So now, I guess they're going to have to give J.J.
- 2:26Speaker 3: McCarthy.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Five times nine, get on the sideline?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Nah, nah, nah.
- 2:31Speaker 1: So I guess they got to give McCarthy time to
- 2:34Speaker 1: get a hold of the playbook. I don't know exactly
- 2:38Speaker 1: how long that's going to take. I don't know if
- 2:41Speaker 1: the Giants will really still have a season. I also
- 2:44Speaker 1: have no idea what expectations the Giants have for what
- 2:50Speaker 1: they do when they get McCarthy. But I feel like
- 2:53Speaker 1: the fact that they got him for only a fifth
- 2:56Speaker 1: round pick tells me if he isn't the starter, NBD.
- 3:04Speaker 1: They didn't really like have to put out that much
- 3:07Speaker 1: in order to make this happen.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Now- You want to hear the list of quarterbacks who
- 3:12Speaker 2: didn't start 10 games or less for their team that
- 3:16Speaker 2: drafted them over the last 25 years?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Okay, give me the list of names, and then later
- 3:23Speaker 1: I will give you another list. Go with that list
- 3:25Speaker 1: of names.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Paxton Lynch.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Hold on one second.
- 3:30Speaker 2: It's 10? No, it's four. It's now four.
- 3:33Speaker 1: All right, four in the last 25 years.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yes.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Allow me to guess. Okay. Paxton Lynch.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yep.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Johnny Manziel. Yep. Trey Lance.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I think that's the list.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Oh wow he's the fourth yeah wow damn that's harsh
- 3:53Speaker 3: yes that's that's that's yeah that's that's harsh that's that's
- 4:00Speaker 3: uh and they don't like him like we got i
- 4:03Speaker 3: hate to like.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I keep talking about this with him and i think
- 4:06Speaker 1: it's very important for him to understand about the giants
- 4:09Speaker 1: right now um And granted, part of this is because
- 4:12Speaker 1: it was early in the season, and that's how things
- 4:15Speaker 1: can typically go. But the vibes seem to be good there, right? Like,
- 4:20Speaker 1: they like that Scataboo situation. If you've seen that weird-ass
- 4:25Speaker 1: commercial of him, like, messing stuff up, and he goes
- 4:28Speaker 1: in the restaurant, and the waiter runs away.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I have not seen that, but that is very on-brand.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Basically, they're leaning into the idea, and if he can
- 4:35Speaker 1: run for 1,000 yards, my man from SVU needs to
- 4:40Speaker 1: watch out. Cause it's about to be a whole new
- 4:43Speaker 1: mayhem or mayhem is going to get a sidekick out here.
- 4:47Speaker 1: If this dude could just put together one good season. Right.
- 4:50Speaker 1: But anyway, he got the people feeling good. The Jackson
- 4:53Speaker 1: dark thing. Like, you know, there's a, there's a, there's
- 4:55Speaker 1: a thing around the team right now. And JJ McCarthy's
- 4:59Speaker 1: bad vibes or has been bad vibes. He's got to
- 5:02Speaker 1: figure this out. He's got to come over here. Cause
- 5:05Speaker 1: the Jameis is good vibes, man. It's again, it's very weird,
- 5:09Speaker 1: but it's very true. He is good vibes. McCarthy can't
- 5:13Speaker 1: mess this up. And unfortunately for McCarthy, unless he's just
- 5:19Speaker 1: a vastly different player than we just saw. Vastly different.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They're going to stink with him. And he's going to
- 5:28Speaker 1: go from stinking in Minnesota to stinking in New York City.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Which is going to raise serious questions about will he
- 5:39Speaker 1: have a career? After this year.
- 5:45Speaker 2: At all.
- 5:46Speaker 1: OK, so hear me out here. I got all the
- 5:49Speaker 1: tweets immediately after this happened, and I was like, damn,
- 5:53Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, who after three years was cheeks. We all
- 5:57Speaker 1: agree there. Right. Regardless of what you think it turned into.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It was a desolate situation after three years. And the
- 6:03Speaker 1: Jets still got three picks for him. OK. And then
- 6:08Speaker 1: I mentioned the 49ers got a four. for Trey Lance.
- 6:14Speaker 1: They could only get a five for J.J. McCarthy from
- 6:18Speaker 1: a team desperate for competent quarterback play? They got a
- 6:23Speaker 1: guy young who has started in the NFL? And that's
- 6:29Speaker 1: all you could, all you had to give was a five? Ugh, right? Like,
- 6:37Speaker 1: that's bad, but buddy, I pulled up a list that
- 6:41Speaker 1: I believe is complete of quarterbacks since 2011. Okay, since
- 6:49Speaker 1: the Ricky Wade scale was introduced in the NFL, which
- 6:53Speaker 1: kind of changed the way the teams handled quarterbacks. And
- 6:56Speaker 1: I got a list of teams or quarterbacks whose teams
- 7:01Speaker 1: bailed on them within the first three years. Okay, and
- 7:05Speaker 1: by bailing, I mean, maybe they traded you. Maybe they
- 7:09Speaker 1: released you. Maybe they just set you on the bench.
- 7:13Speaker 1: But you were cooked. It is shocking how many guys
- 7:19Speaker 1: are on this list. Like the number is 14. Okay,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and we're effectively talking about a 14-year time period. So
- 7:30Speaker 1: you're basically betting on there being one quarterback per draft
- 7:35Speaker 1: in the first round that a team is going to
- 7:38Speaker 1: flat out give up on in the first three years.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Blaine Gabbert. Christian Ponder, remember him?
- 7:47Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah. They drafted another quarterback three years later. Robert Griffin.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Brandon Whedon. They flat released him. They didn't even ask
- 7:58Speaker 1: for nothing back. Of course, he was 46 years old.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to say, he got his AARP card.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was a tough situation.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You know, he had another pension. He wasn't even really tripping.
- 8:09Speaker 1: EJ Manuel. And I remember when they benched him. They
- 8:13Speaker 1: benched him because he was out there throwing hospital balls. Like,
- 8:16Speaker 1: it was very clear they traded him or they benched
- 8:19Speaker 1: him because otherwise everybody was going to quit. Johnny Manziel.
- 8:25Speaker 1: released after year two. Paxton Lynch, released after year two.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And by the way, Johnny Manziel's 2014, so we have
- 8:35Speaker 1: at least one quarterback every year through 2014. 2015, this
- 8:39Speaker 1: didn't happen, but 2015 was Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota
- 8:44Speaker 1: to start the draft. Neither of them got extensions. Okay?
- 8:48Speaker 1: 2016 was Paxton Lynch, all-time terrible draft pick that Jerry
- 8:53Speaker 1: Jones wanted to make. And lucky for him, stumbled into
- 8:57Speaker 1: Dak Prescott. Sam Darnold. And I believe, though, that don't
- 9:04Speaker 1: forget the 2017 quarterback. That's Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, which,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you know, worked out okay for the teams that drafted them.
- 9:13Speaker 1: But Mitchell Trubisky was the number two pick that year. Okay.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Sam Darnold traded after year three. Josh Rosen bailed on
- 9:24Speaker 1: him after year one, but they got a second round
- 9:27Speaker 1: pick for him again for context on JJ McCarthy. That
- 9:31Speaker 1: was a weird situation, but apparently he was cheeks and
- 9:34Speaker 1: apparently he doesn't care because he in law school. Dwayne
- 9:37Speaker 1: Haskins rest in peace, but they released him after two years.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Zach Wilson, the 2020, the 2020 draft is interesting because
- 9:47Speaker 1: none of those guys were early washouts, but Tua, we
- 9:50Speaker 1: saw what happened there. It was in the course of
- 9:52Speaker 1: happening and Justin Herbert. But Zach Wilson, 2021, they traded
- 9:58Speaker 1: him for nothing. They basically were like, come pick him up.
- 10:03Speaker 1: We ain't going to bring him to him. You got
- 10:04Speaker 1: to come get him. Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Matt Jones. Okay.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Y'all in one draft.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yeah, that is all four of them in one draft.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And now we get to, who did we just say?
- 10:22Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy in 2024. I went through the entire list
- 10:27Speaker 1: simply because this is a little bit more common than
- 10:30Speaker 1: I was giving it credit for being.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And hey, look at that 2023 draft right now with
- 10:36Speaker 1: CJ Stroud. Is that 23? Yes. That 2023 draft with C.J. Stroud,
- 10:43Speaker 1: we're not sure what's going on there. 2024, it's going
- 10:46Speaker 1: to be very interesting to see what Washington does with
- 10:48Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels, given their concern with his health, but at
- 10:51Speaker 1: least they're not concerned with his play. And then Drake May,
- 10:54Speaker 1: who look like Silky Johnson's coat right now. This just happens.
- 11:01Speaker 2: And who knows with, going a little further, you get to,
- 11:06Speaker 2: you know, Michael Penix is one injury away.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Anthony Richardson.
- 11:11Speaker 1: He's been bailed on. Right. Michael Pennix. I don't, I
- 11:16Speaker 1: don't see it. Right. I do not see it. Bo Nix.
- 11:21Speaker 1: We're going to see what winds up happening there. The
- 11:23Speaker 1: tricky thing with Nix is that they are good.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So they're not in a position to just hit the
- 11:28Speaker 1: reset button on this.
- 11:30Speaker 2: They traded Bo Nix. They get more than a fifth
- 11:33Speaker 2: round pick.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Correct. They could definitely fool somebody into doing this for
- 11:37Speaker 1: a better. I feel like what they needed to do,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and I don't know if this draft had one of those,
- 11:42Speaker 1: is if you can find a Colin Kaepernick, Andy Dalton,
- 11:46Speaker 1: like starter caliber, second round pick that you can mess
- 11:49Speaker 1: around and go get. Right. Like that's the thing about
- 11:52Speaker 1: the 2011 draft. The second round had two actual factual starters,
- 11:57Speaker 1: one of whom played in the Super Bowl. Dalton and Kaepernick,
- 11:59Speaker 1: who I believe were back-to-back picks in that draft. So
- 12:04Speaker 1: it's not so shocking that it worked out this way
- 12:08Speaker 1: for McCarthy. I think the shock is that the Vikings
- 12:12Speaker 1: were good because we typically talk about what ruins it
- 12:16Speaker 1: for quarterbacks is that they're all, you know, they get
- 12:18Speaker 1: caught up in some kind of bad situation and everything
- 12:20Speaker 1: around them is terrible and therefore they can't get it done.
- 12:23Speaker 1: McCarthy was hurt and they gave him one year They
- 12:28Speaker 1: did not force this. They did not continue to try
- 12:31Speaker 1: to do it. They gave him one year and were like, no,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and wound up with him as the third stringer going
- 12:38Speaker 1: into this year.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And their starting quarterback has already gotten a concussion. Yes.
- 12:44Speaker 2: And the backup is Carson Wentz, who gets hurt every year.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And they still said, we don't need this.
- 12:49Speaker 2: We'd rather go to the waiver wire and pick someone
- 12:51Speaker 2: else up than put you in.
- 12:52Speaker 1: No circumstance. Are we putting this guy on the field? Like,
- 12:57Speaker 1: I didn't even bother to look if he was active
- 12:59Speaker 1: for those games. I'm assuming not. Like, he probably didn't
- 13:03Speaker 1: even got no cleats. Yeah, it's like, yeah, man. I mean, like,
- 13:08Speaker 1: if you want to, like, you can watch from back
- 13:10Speaker 1: here if you want. It's your call. I mean, like,
- 13:13Speaker 1: it's a great view from the field. You know, you
- 13:15Speaker 1: can learn a lot for your next job. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 1: That's what they're going to do. And I think you
- 13:22Speaker 1: just made a very interesting point because the Vikings are
- 13:25Speaker 1: 3-0 right now. They have what could prove to be
- 13:31Speaker 1: a great defense. Justin Jefferson just got hurt. So like
- 13:39Speaker 1: the crutch that all those quarterbacks have that one, the
- 13:42Speaker 1: high ankle sprain, I got figuring he's not going to
- 13:44Speaker 1: be worth a damn for a good month and change.
- 13:48Speaker 1: He's not going to be like, he's not going to
- 13:49Speaker 1: be the caliber of player that we've been talking about.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I did say Justin, didn't I?
- 13:54Speaker 2: You did say Justin. Okay.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I feel like I deserve a little credit for that,
- 13:59Speaker 1: you know, but they don't need a lot. They just
- 14:03Speaker 1: need a bit. And like what McCarthy should have been
- 14:06Speaker 1: for them at the very least, given where they took
- 14:08Speaker 1: him in the draft is like. if we can just
- 14:11Speaker 1: stop you from making mistakes and every now and then
- 14:13Speaker 1: you make some sort of big play. Remember he had those,
- 14:15Speaker 1: like last year, he had those two fourth quarters early
- 14:19Speaker 1: in the year, like those game winning drives.
- 14:20Speaker 2: That gave- On national TV, I think, yeah.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that gave like some glimmer of hope. And then
- 14:25Speaker 1: it just became so clear. It really became clear to
- 14:27Speaker 1: me it was over for him where he did the
- 14:29Speaker 1: gritty in the end zone and Kevin O'Connell was so mad.
- 14:34Speaker 2: You bring this up all the time.
- 14:35Speaker 1: He was so mad. I was like, oh, they hate him.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I didn't think that was really that egregious an offense.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I felt like, honestly, if it had been a black
- 14:46Speaker 1: dude who'd done that and O'Connell had been so mad
- 14:48Speaker 1: at him, we'd have had a whole completely different discussion.
- 14:51Speaker 1: We'd be talking about him like they did with Stefanski
- 14:53Speaker 1: and Shador Sanders. Like, damn, what'd he do to you? Nah, man,
- 14:58Speaker 1: they were just like, we can't stand this motherfucker, man. Shit.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Told him to act like he'd been here before. But
- 15:04Speaker 1: clearly he hasn't.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I have one more tangent. I'm becoming a bit of
- 15:14Speaker 2: a truther about the 2024 Michigan National Championship.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Oh, about it being completely bogus because of the cheating?
- 15:22Speaker 2: None of those players in the NFL are good, and
- 15:25Speaker 2: Jim Harbaugh might not be good either. Like, at some point, like.
- 15:33Speaker 2: It's just Blake Corum, who's like a decent NFL player,
- 15:37Speaker 2: and he plays for Sean McVay. He's the backup running
- 15:40Speaker 2: back for Sean McVay. At some point, it has to
- 15:44Speaker 2: matter that all these players got drafted and none of
- 15:47Speaker 2: them are good.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Well, the thing is also it was going one way
- 15:52Speaker 1: for them, and then suddenly it went that way.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:57Speaker 1: And that inflection point appears to coincide with when they
- 16:02Speaker 1: started Blatly cheating.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Yes, which no one denies, by the way. It's not
- 16:10Speaker 2: like it's Spygate where it's like, yeah, but. No, they
- 16:12Speaker 2: just aren't Deflategate where they avidly deny the allegations. No
- 16:16Speaker 2: one is there.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Yeah, well, the thing about Spygate that is interesting is
- 16:21Speaker 1: they're doing the same thing that we're talking about here.
- 16:23Speaker 1: The Michigan story was just so much more interesting because
- 16:26Speaker 1: it was so much more hilarious, right? It was a
- 16:29Speaker 1: guy with a funny name going above and beyond the
- 16:33Speaker 1: call of duty and like getting himself onto the sidelines.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I cannot imagine how much fun it was. to sneak
- 16:40Speaker 1: his way onto the sidelines like he did. Because, like,
- 16:43Speaker 1: some of y'all maybe ain't never snuck into nothing. It's
- 16:46Speaker 1: so much fun. Like, ever tell you about the time
- 16:48Speaker 1: me and my buddy James snuck into a lingerie fashion
- 16:51Speaker 1: show because we saw the Bishop Dom magic wand pull up?
- 16:54Speaker 2: And tried to sneak into the Super Bowl. That one's
- 16:56Speaker 2: been told, too.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I did. I did. That was... No, I did sneak in.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I was just found out before it could, like, really happen.
- 17:05Speaker 1: But anything where you could mess around and get in
- 17:07Speaker 1: that door before that thing shut down or whatever, or, like,
- 17:10Speaker 1: used to be sneaking in the cafeteria when you wasn't
- 17:12Speaker 1: on the meal plan, it's a great time. This dude
- 17:15Speaker 1: was pushing it to the limit. Like, I could even
- 17:18Speaker 1: hear the music. Right. Right. You know, like I would
- 17:21Speaker 1: love to see like an 80s movie montage of him
- 17:23Speaker 1: doing all that with all the different shots and the
- 17:26Speaker 1: music and him like with a hat and some shades.
- 17:28Speaker 1: He just figured out how to get through and just
- 17:30Speaker 1: like it's all there. But yes, you. No one can
- 17:36Speaker 1: say that you're wrong.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:38Speaker 1: As things stand. Right.
- 17:40Speaker 2: You can say my opinion is ridiculous. You cannot refute
- 17:42Speaker 2: it with facts.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Anyway, I wish that young man good luck.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I had to say one last thing about the Giants.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Of course.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Doesn't this feel more like everything about them feel more
- 17:55Speaker 1: like Jets-y behavior? Except if it was the Jets, nobody
- 17:59Speaker 1: would think it was cute here. They would all think
- 18:01Speaker 1: it was clown shit. Yeah, correct.
- 18:02Speaker 2: If it was the Jets, we'd all be laughing at
- 18:03Speaker 2: the Jets. Yes.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yes. Like, even John Riggins had to go to Washington
- 18:08Speaker 1: to be fully appreciated for his eccentricity, from what I
- 18:11Speaker 1: could tell. New York football... It's sorry.
- 18:31Speaker 2: This has been a Playmaker Production.
