Transcript
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department podcast.
- 0:27SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Sean Boyle, and joining me today, it's my good buddy.
- 0:30SPEAKER_03: It's a recurring guest, the guy who wears a lot of hats on this program.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: It's Mr.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: Michael Blum.
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: Blum, how are you?
- 0:36SPEAKER_04: I'm good, Sean.
- 0:37SPEAKER_04: Happy to be back on the pod and hopefully uh redeem my lack of an appearance leading up to the uh last golf major.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: So hopefully I can make it up for it.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you're a busy guy.
- 0:47SPEAKER_03: I had to book you a whole month out for this one.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: The last time you did come on to recap the major, so that that does suffice.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: But excited to have you for the preview episode today.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: As you alluded to, we've got a lot to get to.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: We have a home run derby to talk about, which was pretty exciting.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: We're obviously going to preview the open.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: We're gonna do a little bit of an NFL check-in.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: With the World Cup coming to a close, some of my attention is starting to shift towards American football, and there's no better man to talk about the NFL with than Michael Blum.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: And then lastly, we've got some little segments cooked up.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: We've got a would you rather and the return of Did You See This?
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: So a lot to get to, Blum.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: Let's start with the home run derby.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: It was in Philadelphia.
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: It was a beautiful summer evening, and it was a pretty cool event, I have to say.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: I liked the format.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: I thought it was exciting, it was fast-paced.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: The Netflix coverage of the event wasn't as good, but I thought the event itself was a really good job from the MLB, and I would dare to say it was a home run.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: Well done.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, I thought overall it was an enjoyable viewing experience.
- 1:52SPEAKER_04: The format itself, I feel like they just changed it every year, going from a clock to having a number of swings.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: I feel like having no clock allows the viewer to actually like watch the home run compared to when there's clocks with materials like rush to just keep firing in pitches.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: Um, it did drag a little bit in the first round, but I feel like that's just like the MLB wanting to you know reward the paying customer to get their money sort of and be there for the duration of you know how long a baseball game normally is, whether that be two and a half to three hours.
- 2:22SPEAKER_04: Um but overall I thought it was great.
- 2:24SPEAKER_04: I think Philly brought it, you know, having a quarter of the participants uh play for the home team that that brought some juice.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: And uh hopefully MLB got a new star out of the night in Jordan Walker, uh, because I think he's awesome.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: Were you familiar with Jordan Walker before last evening?
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Sean, I drafted him on my fantasy baseball team in in mid-March, humble brag, but he was actually a prize prospect through the Cardinals organization rookie year last year.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: I think he had 16 home runs this year, but he's like a giant of a man.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: Like he was standing next to Schwarber when they were doing like a face-off before the final started, and he was like double his size.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: And um he seems like a funny guy too, like a good personality.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: So I'm glad he got to show that side of him as well.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: I think he's gonna be a good player for a long time because he he crushed it last night.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was certainly impressive.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: He I think it was six of his last six swings went for home runs to beat Schwarber in the final.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: So it was a good night for Philly, it was a good night for baseball.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: The MLB All-Star game takes place obviously a day after it takes place on Tuesday night.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Blum, I don't know about you, but this the All-Star game, not only in baseball, but also in basketball, it used to be something that I really looked forward to as a kid.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: I used to think it was the coolest thing, All-Star Weekend.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: Even the MLB All-Star game, it used to have some significant meaning to it.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: It just feels like a chore now to sit through.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: I can't tell you the last time I've watched one of these games, and I just feel like the excitement for it is not what it used to be.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: Am I just getting old, or is that how you feel as well?
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: No, yeah, I do share that sentiment.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: Uh, I do think it is mostly just us getting old and not caring.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: Uh, but to your point, like all-star games in general have just lost their lost their for a while.
- 4:06SPEAKER_04: You mentioned NBA All-Star Game, the NFL Pro Bowl is just like a flag football game now.
- 4:12SPEAKER_04: Although the NHL seems like they kind of figured out something with that whole four countries tournament.
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: That was sick.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, like I hope they do that again.
- 4:20SPEAKER_04: Like the NBA, just the way player personalities are in the NBA, like that'll never work just because they don't care the way hockey players care.
- 4:28SPEAKER_04: But yeah, like I would used to root for the National League when the outcome of the game, like decided home field advantage in the World Series, which is pretty wild in hindsight that a game that random had that high of stakes.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: But uh yeah, I mean, not my viewing experiences.
- 4:42SPEAKER_04: I'll watch like the first couple innings, uh, maybe see like a cool matchup with like pitcher versus header.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: Uh, but other than that, I'll normally turn it off halfway through.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you brought up a good point.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: The NHL's all-star game is actually awesome.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: The thing is, they just don't do an all-star game, they just turn it into like an Olympics, which was a great idea.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: So maybe if we could get some other sports to do something like that, we might be back on that front.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: But yeah, the home run derby always seems to outshine the all-star game, much like had the dunk contest used to outshine the NBA All-Star Game.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: Now it just feels like there's not many of these things that we grew up looking forward to that we actually care about anymore, which is a little bit sad, but I do think that's just part of getting older.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: We have to pick and choose our battles.
- 5:24SPEAKER_04: And I think it's just like watered down where like the more you do something, just the less important it feels, and you feel like you've seen everything.
- 5:32SPEAKER_04: Like we've seen every dunk in the dunk contest, we've seen every iteration of like an all-star game, different versions of the game.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: So I feel like that just comes with time.
- 5:40SPEAKER_04: Um, there's I don't think there's anything that they could do to get me back into it, but it's nice over work for players.
- 5:46SPEAKER_04: Hopefully, they get a nice bonus if they win.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: But like as a fan, I feel like I'll never really care about it.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: That's that's probably the correct way to phrase that.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: I think that's good for baseball.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: We'll maybe dive more into it as the season gets closer to a finale, but I mean it's such a long season that we just we're not here to break the ins and outs of the baseball season.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: We're here for big moments only.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: We have a big moment in the world of golf this weekend.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: It is the open championship at Royal Burkdale.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: First of all, Bloom, where does the open rank in terms of your preference of majors?
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: I would say the open for me generally is in the three-spot ahead of the PGA championship.
- 6:28SPEAKER_04: I can be swayed to move to two, just depending on like the course and the course setup on any given year between the open and the US Open.
- 6:37SPEAKER_04: But like it's it's I think it's a unique viewing experience with obviously linked scolf.
- 6:41SPEAKER_04: It looks different on TV.
- 6:43SPEAKER_04: If you're into the whole coffee thing, you can wake up, grab a cup of coffee, and just watch the open from you know 7 a.m.
- 6:49SPEAKER_04: to 2 p.m.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: due to the time difference.
- 6:51SPEAKER_04: Um, so from that perspective, I really enjoy it.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: But uh, I don't think I would hold it to the same light as like a master's.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this is firmly number two for me, I think.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: I almost always prefer watching the Lynx style of golf as opposed to the US Open style of golf, golf, which is usually kind of very thick, rough, very challenging for the sake of being hard.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: Whereas in the open, they kind of just let the conditions dictate how the tournament's gonna play.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: Some years it'll be really easy, some years it'll be impossible.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: And I kind of like the mother nature feel to it.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: I also am an I'm a morning person, as you know, so I like getting up early, I like getting that coffee, and I'm all for setting an alarm to watch golf.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: That sounds good to me.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: We'll be done with the Jordan Speath round by 8 a.m.
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: That's what a what a way to start the day to get that over with.
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: So I think the open in general, it is one of my favorite, not only golf majors, but it's one of my favorite weeks of the year.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: It's also coming at a time where the Sunday of the open coincides with the World Cup final.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: So Sunday is going to be a spectacular sports day.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: Let's talk about Burkdale in general, the course itself.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: Do you know some of the list of past champions at Royal Burkdale?
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: Can I interest you in that list?
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: Just when you name dropped his name, Sean, something clicked with me.
- 8:08SPEAKER_04: It was Jordan.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: That was his win, right, in 2017.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: It sure was.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: It was his last major victory, 2017 Jordan Spief.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: But the list of people that have won here, it's a list of heavy hitters.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: We've got Podrick Harrington, Mark O'Mera, Ian Baker Finch, Tom Watson, Johnny Miller, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer, and Peter Thompson two times.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, hey, who am I to say who the legends of the game are?
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: But that's a pretty good list that I like to see my guy's name as a part of.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Before we get into anything else, does Jordan have a chance this week?
- 8:41SPEAKER_04: I don't want to just write him off and say no, but I wouldn't be shocked if he's flirts with contention on the weekend, but will he win?
- 8:50SPEAKER_04: Probably not.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and you know what?
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: I I need that dose of reality.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: I want to say this publicly.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: I always do the same song and dance with Speith.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: And listen, I'm going to, in my heart, I'm always going to follow him and root for him.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: But the days of me getting up to watch every shot of a major or follow his featured group or care about what the result of each hole is, this is my last ride.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: This is my last weekend of doing that.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: I will, from this moment forward, if Jordan Speeth does not win the 2026 Open Championship, I will not follow Jordan Speeth closely in any major championship moving forward.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: He's broken me too many times.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: I'm a shell of a man.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: I'm starting to hate the game of golf because of him.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: I've played once this year.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: I just find no joy in it.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: If you flash back 10 years, I wouldn't think I'd ever be saying these words, Blum, but I think that's the only healthy way out.
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: We'll set those say like in golf, it can happen just at any point.
- 9:48SPEAKER_04: It could happen out of nowhere, which is not something you could say about like any other sport.
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: So all he needs is just four straight days of good golf.
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: And I'm not saying that he will do it, but like we've seen more random winners, especially in majors, over the last couple of years that we would have just never thought about saying they had a chance.
- 10:08SPEAKER_04: So Sean, you never know it could happen.
- 10:10SPEAKER_04: But uh yeah, the last couple years for Jordan have been very bleak.
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: And that's and listen, like I said, I'll be thrilled when it does.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: I just might not be there for the ride at that point.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: I need to take a break.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: It's not good for my health.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: But as we zoom out, let's just talk about the course in general, Bum.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: I'm seeing some pictures this week.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: It looks absolutely baked out.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: It looks like we haven't had rain in weeks there.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: Tell me about how the course is playing and what we should expect this weekend.
- 10:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I saw that ESPN uh they put out an article today that I was reading that we are going to have, quote, unprecedented conditions in terms of what you know an open championship looks like.
- 10:50SPEAKER_04: Um incredibly firm conditions, uh fairway green.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: I saw Jordan said today that five irons are rolling out to 300 yards, which is pretty crazy.
- 11:01SPEAKER_04: That's how dry conditions are.
- 11:03SPEAKER_04: Um temps have been unseasonably warm.
- 11:07SPEAKER_04: Apparently, it's for the first time in a while.
- 11:09SPEAKER_04: There will be no rain.
- 11:10SPEAKER_04: Uh low 70s, and like I said, the rough is pretty burnt out as well.
- 11:14SPEAKER_04: Um, so I'll be curious to see how low scores get.
- 11:18SPEAKER_04: Um I did see Rory and Justin Rose probably said they will make things easier, where you just want to kind of run the ball, you know, as close to the pop bunkers as possible off the tee, and then just play the short wedge game.
- 11:30SPEAKER_04: So yeah, it'll be compared to other, you know, open majors, definitely uh a different experience from a condition standpoint.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: That is interesting.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: Hopefully, we get a little bit of wind too.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: I think that would be the best of both worlds if we get it really burnt and crispy and it's a little windy.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: That's that's a true test of golf there.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: That'd be sweet.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: But hey, beggars can't be choosers.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: We will take a dry open championship any day of the week because sometimes when it's rain soaked, it just plays like a completely different style of course than it was intended to.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: So happy to hear that it's baked out and really dry.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: Well, you came up with a good idea to help us in this preview process.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: Why don't you just fill the listeners in on what that is and we can get go underway with the superlative section here?
- 12:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so we are going to go back to high school um for this preview, Sean, and we're going to come up with six superlatives, three for each of us.
- 12:22SPEAKER_04: Uh, just of something that we anticipate could happen.
- 12:26SPEAKER_04: Maybe uh most likely to be a surprise top 10, miss the cut.
- 12:30SPEAKER_04: Uh we'll name drop those names, then give some analysis on kind of thoughts on the other person's superlative and their predictions.
- 12:37SPEAKER_04: So I can kick us off.
- 12:40SPEAKER_04: My first approach is going to be most likely to surprise with a top 10 this week.
- 12:46SPEAKER_04: And that is going to be a guy that has gotten into better form recently.
- 12:50SPEAKER_04: And that is Max Homa.
- 12:54SPEAKER_04: He has the last couple weeks, he had, I believe, he's made the cut on most weeks.
- 12:59SPEAKER_04: Uh, major performances.
- 13:00SPEAKER_04: He was around in the US Open.
- 13:02SPEAKER_04: He kind of had a bad Sunday, but it seems like he is trending in the right direction.
- 13:06SPEAKER_04: He has a decent open performance record.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, we played four times, has the top ten.
- 13:12SPEAKER_04: And this is just one of those vibe picks, Sean.
- 13:14SPEAKER_04: I think Max Homa is due for a while.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: Very likable guy.
- 13:18SPEAKER_04: I know you like him as well.
- 13:19SPEAKER_04: So rooting for Max to speak first.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: I love that pick, Blum.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: It's sentimental.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: I do love Max.
- 13:25SPEAKER_03: He's he's a very likable person.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: I we saw him at the PGA championship, and he was kind of lost, but it does seem just kind of tracking some recent results, he's in a much better place now than he was a few months ago.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: So good stuff.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: And he he is an open type player.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: He's more of a feel guy, a shot shaper, a shot hitter than he is one of those bomb and gouge type players.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: So I think the open suits him, and hopefully it's a good week for Max on the other side of the pond.
- 13:51SPEAKER_04: So my next superlative, big name, most likely to miss the cut.
- 13:57SPEAKER_04: I'm going to go with the past winner of the Genesis Open last week, Tom Kim.
- 14:03SPEAKER_04: I think this is just a hangover, championship hangover for Tommy.
- 14:06SPEAKER_04: He had a great showing in Scotland last week.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: He does not have the best record at the open.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: He's not really a major guy in general.
- 14:15SPEAKER_04: I love him.
- 14:16SPEAKER_04: I think he's a very likable guy, but I'm voting for the uh the championship hangover for Tom Kim.
- 14:21SPEAKER_04: Uh missing the cut this week off of the dramatic win from last week.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: It's a big week for him because, like you said, not really a major guy, which at this point, if you're not a major guy, you're not really a golfer anymore on my radar.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: So I think the general public really fixates on these four weeks.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: And if you want to become a star in this game or a household name or considered one of the best of the sport, I think you need to start showing up in these.
- 14:44SPEAKER_03: And Tom Kim does seem like he's really right of the ship after a couple years, kind of out in the wilderness.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: He's he's got himself back to playing some proper golf, and this is a big week for him.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: I will root with you on this one, Blum.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: I've never been the biggest young Tom Kim fan.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: He he's fine.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: It's just not my style of play.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: I believe he's a really slow player as well.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: So just maybe not not for me, but I I could get behind this pick.
- 15:11SPEAKER_04: So my final superlative is going to be surprise Sunday contender.
- 15:15SPEAKER_04: This guy, I feel like, is turned into one of the best golfers in the world that no one talks about just because he doesn't win.
- 15:23SPEAKER_04: And that's Maverick McNeely.
- 15:25SPEAKER_04: He has played 16 events this year.
- 15:28SPEAKER_04: He's made every cut but one.
- 15:31SPEAKER_04: He has a very good major record this year.
- 15:35SPEAKER_04: Uh top 30, I believe, are close to it in every single major.
- 15:38SPEAKER_04: 18th in the Masters, 18th in the PGA.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: Uh, so very consistent.
- 15:43SPEAKER_04: And I feel like it's just a matter of time until he just puts together four good days of golf.
- 15:47SPEAKER_04: And uh, why not this week in the open?
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: You know, he's trending in the right way.
- 15:51SPEAKER_04: And uh not saying he's going to win, but I feel like you will see his name on the Sunday leaderboard.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: I like that a lot.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: I love Mav too, so you're you're really doing a good job of pulling at my heartstrings here.
- 16:01SPEAKER_03: So good job, and I like this segment a lot.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: I have three superlatives to provide as well.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: And if you have any that you like for these categories, please please feel free to jump in.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: First one is Sunday leaderboard collapse.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: So someone who could be leading the tournament or sniffing around the lead before inevitably falling flat on their face on Sunday.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: A lot of times we see these exact kind of profiles in majors, and they're guys that kind of fake it those first three days.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: They're maybe not world beaters typically.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: Maybe they're having really hot putting weeks, and then that comes to a screeching halt on Sunday.
- 16:35SPEAKER_03: I'm going, I'm going for a bit of a dramatic one here.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take Lord Tyrrell Hatton.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: It's a home game for him.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: He's he's an Englander, but I just think that it would be absolute drama to watch him melt in a big moment.
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: He's typically not that kind of guy.
- 16:53SPEAKER_03: It doesn't seem like, oh, believe me, he'll melt down and throw clubs and curse and all that, but his golf seems pretty steady eddy, even though his personality doesn't necessarily coincide with that.
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: But I'm expecting him to have a good first three days and then kind of shoot himself out of the tournament on some.
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: That's a good one.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, he is probably the most entertaining golfer to watch just because of his personality.
- 17:15SPEAKER_04: He'll miss a 10-foot putt and then just stand on the green and talk to himself for another two minutes.
- 17:21SPEAKER_04: It's electric.
- 17:22SPEAKER_04: Throws clubs, throws balls in the water that he doesn't like.
- 17:26SPEAKER_04: And he is he is a great golfer.
- 17:28SPEAKER_04: Like he is normally always in contention in these majors.
- 17:31SPEAKER_04: So, yeah, from a viewing standpoint, I would love to see a Sunday class from from our boys hero.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: I would I think we could all agree that'd be appointment viewing.
- 17:41SPEAKER_03: The next superlative was one that I came up with, Blum, and I have to admit, I took the category pretty literally.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: I did actual superlatives that were handed out in my high school.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: So I did best dressed and not golf related one bit really, but I of course have to pick Jason Day.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: This guy just continues to make bold fashion statements everywhere he turns up.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: He's not scared to wear all one color.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: He's not scared to be bold and wear bright colors.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: He's sponsored by Malboun now, and I think it's been a seamless transition for J Day.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: I love the visor game he's been rocking.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure these elements over the other side are gonna be suitable for a visor, but if it's baked out and sunny, who knows?
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm always in on how Jay Day dresses.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: I think he's a clear first pick in the golfer dress draft right now.
- 18:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, all golfers from my perspective all dress the same, and then there's Jason Day the last few years.
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: He is definitely, and I wouldn't say it's like would you call it good style or just different styles?
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: I think most of it's good.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: There's been a few where we we've gotten maybe a little ahead of ourselves, but I think for the most part it's good.
- 18:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so like depending on the color, you could swing me one way or the other.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: But I'd be curious, like, yeah, Jason, like you said, it could be Sony.
- 18:57SPEAKER_04: We got the visor out, we got the baggy pants, uh, like the sweater vest that like hangs down by his knees.
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: He's we've seen it all with him, so I'll be curious to see what he comes up with for this tournament.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: And then lastly, Blum, I went with most likely to succeed.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: And now you might think this is oh, who's gonna just have a good week?
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: I'm actually taking this question a different way.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: This is someone who's going to have a really good showing.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: They won't win, but I think they're going to have a good career.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: So this is we're buying a future stock on this guy.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: And admittedly, he's a few years older than I thought.
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: He had just burst onto my radar, I believe, last year.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: Apparently, he is 28 already, so that's right, that's a good age for a golfer, good age.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: But I'm going with Christopher Rytan.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: He is Norwegian.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: He's born in Oslo.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: We just saw Norway with a pretty magical run in the World Cup.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: I think the good vibes for the Norwegians continue throughout this weekend.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: He has his brother Victor in this tournament.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: I think Victor's gonna have a good showing.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: I think the Norwegians were all rowing that boat in the same direction.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: So give me Christopher Rytan for most likely likely to succeed at a later date.
- 20:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's a guy that also came across my desk last year.
- 20:11SPEAKER_04: Playing great golf this year.
- 20:12SPEAKER_04: He has four top tens.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: He won at the Truist, which is a signature event.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: His major performances have been a little up and down.
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: But like you said, I mean, those European guys, like, they live for this.
- 20:26SPEAKER_04: Like, this is their masters this week.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: So wouldn't be surprised if he had a good week as well.
- 20:30SPEAKER_04: And then, like you said, leading into uh the rest of the season and then the years following, he seems like he's a solid golfer with a strong game.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: Well, let's hope he has it at least, let's hope he doesn't fall flat on his face and embarrass himself at the very least this weekend.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: He missed the cut of the Scottish.
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: I'm receiving word.
- 20:47SPEAKER_03: That's not great news heading in, but I'm I'm optimistic.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: Well, and before we head out of the superlative section, I do like this idea, and I think we can continue to build on this.
- 20:56SPEAKER_03: Maybe even we could do some performance-based ones as we look back on this tournament, and we could do this for majors coming up.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: Did you win a superlative in high school?
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: I don't think we did superlatives in high school.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: Wow, that's very that's very progressive.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: I don't think those are a thing now.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: I think that's a thing of the past, but we did do them, and I I did win one.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: Do you have any guesses what this is?
- 21:16SPEAKER_04: Uh most likely to have the best podcast in 15 years.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: That's well, thank you.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: That that would have been nice if we had that, I would hope, to get it.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: No, I won Most Passionate with Katerina Ferrucci.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: I remember I remember we had to take photos, and we I think unfortunately, we dressed up as cheerleaders.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: I think that was what came along with winning that one.
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: So I'm not sure it was much of a win for me.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: I ended up having to dress the cheerleader, at least with pom poms.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: But I I do consider that a feather in the cap.
- 21:46SPEAKER_03: So pom poms, but no skirt.
- 21:49SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 21:49SPEAKER_03: I doubt I was in a skirt.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: I if there's any photos, please delete anybody who's from that area.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: Just don't go looking in the yearbook.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: But this is all in the trust tree here.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: The Final way for us to go through some of the heavy hitters in this field.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: We've come up with a little segment here.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: Basically, our goal as a podcast, we're uniting instead of drafting against each other, we're going to work in tandem.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: And our goal is to pick the winner of the tournament.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: We only get five picks on our team this week.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: One of them has to win the open.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: The only rule is we can't go straight down the odds board.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: We have to take two of the five, have to be outside of the top ten in odds.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: So we could take a couple favorites, but we got to work our way down the leaderboard a little bit as well.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: One, the first name on the odds list is Scotty Scheffler.
- 22:37SPEAKER_03: Are we including Scotty?
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: Or are we going to get really bold with it?
- 22:42SPEAKER_04: So I think we should have a rule.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: Let's only pick one guy in the top three.
- 22:48SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 22:49SPEAKER_04: So top three on my list right now is Scotty, Rory, and then Tommy, and Fitzpatrick are tired of third.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: So let's say we'll pick one out of those three.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: I'm going to make a strong argument for Tommy Fleetwood in a home game here.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: I know he doesn't win often, but this is a home game for Tommy.
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: And we talked about it maybe coming home on the football pitch on Sunday for England.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: I would hate to miss that party.
- 23:13SPEAKER_04: You make strong points, Sean.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: If it was up to me, I would go Rory, but you are the host, so it is more than happy with Tom.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: We're going to take Rory because I'm I'm the host, but I'm not the expert.
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: I'm happy to say I shouldn't be allowed to pick any of these because I'll go with the heart.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: Before you know it, you'll have a lineup of Tommy, Ludwig, Victor, and Jordan on your hands, and we won't have a winner anywhere in sight.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: So let's go with Rory.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: I'm happy to take the prudent play.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: I don't love the rule on the fly there to completely knock me out of the Matt Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood sweepstakes, but hey, this is your segment now.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: We we're moving on.
- 23:49SPEAKER_04: So I'm willing to walk that back because I didn't realize as I was making that rule on the fly that both Fitz and Tommy were tied for third.
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: So we can open that back up if we want to one of them.
- 23:59SPEAKER_04: Maybe just one of Rory and Scotty, I think is fair.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: That's I think that's fair because there is a difference between Rory and Scotty and then Fitzpatrick and Tommy.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: So who do you prefer between Fitzpatrick and Tommy?
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: I would go with Tommy.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: I will agree with you.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: So we're going Rory, Tommy.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Those are our first two names on the team sheet.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: I like where we're at so far, Bum.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: Now, next up on the odds list, I'm going to read you a few names.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: You let me know who you like from this group.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: We've got John Rom, Xander Shoffley, Chris Goderup, Cameron Young, and Ludwig Aubert.
- 24:31SPEAKER_04: If I had to pick one, I would say the safe pick would be Xander, but if we wanted to get fun, I would go Godderup.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: How about we do this?
- 24:42SPEAKER_03: We have, of course, our picks from our guest expert, a guy who loves to pick any anything you're allowed to gamble on.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: He'll find his way in.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: And Michael Collins, I reached out, I said, who what are your picks this week for the open?
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: The first name he sent back to me as a potential winner was Chris Godderup.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: So I think we should use that as our tiebreaker and we'll add Godterup to the list.
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: I like it.
- 25:04SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 25:05SPEAKER_03: Now we have to pick the last two guys from outside the top 10 in odds, according to my sheet, that looks like Colin Morikawa, Victor Hovland, Robert McIntyre, Terrell Hatton, Wyndham Clark, Justin Rose, Sam Byrne, Siwoo Kim.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: Those are the kind of guys we're talking about.
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: Other notables are Justin Thomas, Brooks Kepka, Patrick Reed, Jordan Smith.
- 25:30SPEAKER_04: So I am there's one name that you said that I would I feel very strongly about, and that is Sam Burns.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: He goes right into the team.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: Listen, here, Blum, you're the expert.
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: I'm here for moral support.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: I hate Sam Burns.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: So I it's perfect.
- 25:48SPEAKER_04: US open performance a lot to me.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: He was a dog.
- 25:52SPEAKER_03: He's been really good.
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:54SPEAKER_04: And then I think if we're talking first time major winners, I think he would be at the top of my list in terms of like for this.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't think that's a bad shout at all, to be honest.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: Who do you want to go with for this last pick?
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: Morikawa seems like he's been playing good golf if he's healthy.
- 26:09SPEAKER_04: I'm not sure how it would probably be up there.
- 26:13SPEAKER_04: Um if we want to have some fun, and I I would want to cater to you, Sean.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: We could do Ludwig.
- 26:19SPEAKER_04: We could throw in one of your guys.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: What about Ludwig or Victor?
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: Who do you like better?
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: Victor stared Scotty Sheffler down in his eyeballs and beat him at the Travelers just a few weeks ago.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: I don't want you to forget that.
- 26:29SPEAKER_04: Between those two, I would say if we're just talking winning, I think you have to go Victor just because you've seen it from him very recently.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: Well, there it is.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: There, there it is.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: The Tortured Fans 5.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: We are riding with Rory McElroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Chris Goddard up, Sam Burns, and Victor Hovland.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: One of those guys has to win the open, or we will come with our with our hand-up apologies next week.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: That's a promise.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: So I I like that list, Blum.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: I think we did a pretty good job.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: Now, do I exactly see a ton of traditional winners in that group?
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: No, there's Tommy doesn't like to win often.
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: Victor doesn't win too often.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: And aside from that, we're really counting on Sam Burns and Godrup to have big weeks.
- 27:11SPEAKER_04: Listen, I really like those our two Americans.
- 27:14SPEAKER_04: I think I think an American has won this, I think, three years in a row.
- 27:18SPEAKER_04: Two or three years in a row.
- 27:20SPEAKER_04: So listen, we faltered in the World Cup, but we're here to take it back across the pond at the open.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: And also, I think there's been 12 first-time winners of the open in a row.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: And we've got four names on this list that would be first time winners.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: So we're sharps over here, I'll tell you what.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: I knew that all along.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: That's we were just picking that.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: And I lastly, to round up the open preview, we'll each give you a name of who our pick would be.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Odds factored in.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: So let's we'll try to be reasonable.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: But before that, our guest picker, Michael Collins, he sent in three things.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: Got her up to win.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: He said Cam Smith for a top 20.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: And then he loved a Jordan Spieth over Bryson DeChambeau matchup.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: I love that as well.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: Bryson has missed the cut at all three majors so far.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: He might go for a clean sweep this week.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: I can't say this course is screaming Bryson to me, but I've been wrong a time or two.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, as a team Bryson guy, um, I have no comments.
- 28:17SPEAKER_04: Who's your pick to win, Bum?
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: So my outright pick is going to be I hate to go chalk here, but plus 850, I'm going to take Rory McElroy.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: I think he's winning two this year, both the Masters and the Open.
- 28:30SPEAKER_04: I just think this is a course that he's going to show up for.
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: Played pretty well last week at the Scottish Open.
- 28:37SPEAKER_04: Um, I think he came in top five or six.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: But uh I think this is gonna be a week where a big name wins, so I'm gonna bet on Rory.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna echo you with the big name talk, and I'm actually gonna go for John Rom, a guy we kind of glanced past, but he he showed me something at the US Open.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: I believe that was where he had a pretty good performance.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: Uh I think he is still that guy, even though he's on live.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: It's in him somewhere, that talent, that ability.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: We haven't seen it as frequently in the last couple of years, but I expect him in the open.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: He has a lot of pride in this.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: I think we see a good performance out of him, especially if it comes down to a feel thing where a lot of short chips and stuff, his short game's ridiculous.
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: So give me Rambo.
- 29:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's been streaky in majors, but I mean his best is up there with anyone's best in the world.
- 29:24SPEAKER_04: So if we get that, we'll be definitely be a contender for sure.
- 29:27SPEAKER_03: Well, and let's transition now to one of your other areas of expertise here.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: It is the NFL.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: We haven't talked about the NFL in a long while on this program.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: So I thought it was a good time.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: You're starting now to people are starting to talk about their fantasy football leagues.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: They're asking their commissioner to reactivate the league, you're starting to plan drafts and things of the sort.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: So let's dive in a little bit.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: We've got something cooked up.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: I said, maybe if you can come up with like an old face in a different place type game for me.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: So what you're going to do is you're going to ask me, I think it's four or five different players' names, and you're going to ask me what team they're on.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: Is that how this is going to go?
- 30:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I have five names for you, all fantasy relevant players, so all offensive players.
- 30:08SPEAKER_04: I have one quarterback, two running backs, two receivers.
- 30:11SPEAKER_04: I'll give you the name.
- 30:12SPEAKER_04: And Sean, you're going to try to tell me uh what team they're on, new team they're on for this upcoming season.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: That's helpful that it's a new team, and you're not trying to trick me that a guy didn't move because I appreciate that.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: I will say for the listeners to context, I am a big fantasy football guy.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: I'm a big football guy, of course.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: I typically don't pay attention at all in the offseason.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: I'm kind of a wake me up when September ends kind of guy.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: When the weather gets cold, that's when I start to really care about football.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: I'm not there yet.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: I'm on vacation still, but unfortunately, these fantasy leagues, the drafts are coming hot and heavy, and I'm unprepared.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: So this is gonna serve as a good little, a good little teaser before we dive into some real fantasy content.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: So I'm happy to do this with you, Bloom.
- 30:55SPEAKER_03: Start us off, please.
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: And I will say for the viewer, I did not feed these names to Sean pre-podcast.
- 31:02SPEAKER_04: He is learning all these names right when I say them to him right now.
- 31:06SPEAKER_04: It's gonna go poorly, I'm pretty sure.
- 31:08SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 31:08SPEAKER_04: Uh, first name, quarterback Kyler Murray.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: Who does he play for?
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 31:15SPEAKER_04: I don't know it.
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: I'll give you a few.
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: I want to say okay.
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: For all five, I have to use them wisely.
- 31:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so you get two hints for all use them wisely.
- 31:27SPEAKER_04: I'll give you a comment.
- 31:29SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna save the hint.
- 31:30SPEAKER_05: I think where he went.
- 31:33SPEAKER_05: I think he's a Miami dolphin.
- 31:37SPEAKER_05: Incorrect.
- 31:39SPEAKER_05: Where is he?
- 31:40SPEAKER_04: Kyler Murray is a Minnesota Viking.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: Oh that's right.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: Because there's jokes about JJ McCarthy not starting, right?
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: Yep, he signed a one-year,$1.3 million deal.
- 31:55SPEAKER_04: The reason that is so low is because the Cardinals are still paying him$35 million for this year.
- 31:59SPEAKER_04: So he will be competing with JJ McCarthy for the starting quarterback job in this.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: That's bad.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: That's a bad start.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: I was pretty confident the Dolphins, too.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: That's why I turned down the hint.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: Who's the Dolphins quarterback?
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: Malik Willis.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: That's probably who you're thinking of.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: I knew the Dolphins got a new quarterback.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: I thought it was Kyler.
- 32:21SPEAKER_03: We're all for one.
- 32:24SPEAKER_04: So on to running back.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: Sean, this is one of your guys.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: I I chose him, so hopefully, this one rings some bells.
- 32:31SPEAKER_04: That is Super Bowl champion.
- 32:33SPEAKER_04: Running back Kenneth Walker the third.
- 32:35SPEAKER_04: Who does he play for?
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: I I know this one.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: Kenny is my guy.
- 32:40SPEAKER_03: He's a potential keeper.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: I know that Kenneth Walker III is a Kansas City chief.
- 32:48SPEAKER_04: He is a Kansas City chief.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: He signed a three-year$45 million deal this offseason with them.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: Um right now there's no clear-cut guy behind him, so he's expected to shoulder most of the load in that backfield this year.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: That's what I was crying out for last year, Bloom.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: They finally gave him the rock in the Super Bowl.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: Look what happened.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, I've been asking for some more carries for the guy for years now, and we finally start to see them hopefully in Kansas City.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: He's moving up my keeper rankings, knowing he was included in this list.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: So good stuff, Kenny.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: I'm happy to be on the board.
- 33:20SPEAKER_04: So you are one for two.
- 33:22SPEAKER_04: So we're going to go with our second running back.
- 33:25SPEAKER_04: Where does Travis Etienne Jr.
- 33:28SPEAKER_04: Who does he play for?
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: No chance here.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Absolutely no chance.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: The team that came to mind immediately is not it, because I was going to say the Falcons.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: Two hints, two hints.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: I would like a hint.
- 33:39SPEAKER_05: I would like a hint.
- 33:41SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 33:42SPEAKER_04: It is in the NFC.
- 33:45SPEAKER_04: Either the I'll give you the NFC South or NFC North.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: The Falcons came to my mind immediately, and I know it's not them because they have Bijan.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: Oh boy.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: I'm going to uh you know what?
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: I think I know.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: I think it's the Saints.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Saints?
- 33:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you got it.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: The reason I thought back.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: I thought back there was something going on with his name being pronounced a certain way.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: And I remember there was some kind of Cajun accent or something to it.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: Like it was like him returning home going to New Orleans.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: So that's what made me think of it.
- 34:15SPEAKER_04: Yes, and I forgot that, so I probably butchered your name wrong, Travis, so apologies.
- 34:19SPEAKER_04: Uh but yeah, you signed with the Saints, so it'll be him and Alvin Kamara if there's anything left of him this year in the Saints title.
- 34:26SPEAKER_04: We're heating up one.
- 34:28SPEAKER_04: Two for three.
- 34:30SPEAKER_04: Alright, so we got two more receivers.
- 34:33SPEAKER_04: The first one is what team does Jalen Waddle now play for?
- 34:39SPEAKER_04: Oh god.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: I don't have a clue.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: Like, this is one that I would have said he was on the Dolphins.
- 34:46SPEAKER_03: I did not know that he left.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: I would like to hit.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: He got traded.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: He has stayed in the AFC.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: That'll be my hand.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: AFC playoff team last year.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: I'll go with the Houston Texans.
- 35:01SPEAKER_04: Good guess, but it's the Denver Broncos.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: God damn it.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I did not know that.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: Did not know that.
- 35:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he was traded in a deal where the Broncos gave up the 30th pick in the draft.
- 35:13SPEAKER_04: Um, so he joins that wide receiver room with Portland Sutton and just a bunch of guys that aren't really fantasy relevant.
- 35:20SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 35:21SPEAKER_04: That's decent.
- 35:22SPEAKER_04: That's decent.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: So this next one's a big one.
- 35:24SPEAKER_04: This is the difference between passing and failing.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: If you get the I would also like for the record to show that Blum did not include any tight ends, which he knows is my favorite position group.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: That is, I want the record to show that.
- 35:38SPEAKER_04: I could do a bonus one, Sean, if you want after this one.
- 35:40SPEAKER_04: If you get depending if you get this one right or wrong.
- 35:42SPEAKER_04: Alright, last name.
- 35:45SPEAKER_04: Mike Evans.
- 35:46SPEAKER_03: Who does he now play for?
- 35:48SPEAKER_03: Blum, this test is going to be a pass for me because I know this one.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: He is a San Francisco 49er.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: Lock it in.
- 35:56SPEAKER_04: He is.
- 35:56SPEAKER_04: Yes, that is correct.
- 35:58SPEAKER_04: After years in Tampa Bay, he's now Brock P number one.
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: Although I do think 60% would technically be failing.
- 36:08SPEAKER_04: It's funny, as I said that, I thought you were three out of four instead of two out of four at the time.
- 36:12SPEAKER_04: So if you want, Sean, I could try to whip up a tight end for you.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because I would like I'd like an honest average here.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: I think a 60%'s a D.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: Technically.
- 36:23SPEAKER_04: You would be correct.
- 36:24SPEAKER_04: That's me just not doing math correctly on the fly.
- 36:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, listen here.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: Two temple math guys.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're an actual real scientist, so who could expect much of us?
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: But yeah, give me a tight end if you could.
- 36:36SPEAKER_03: Or just another player.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I will say the tight end is very bleak in terms of big names changing teams.
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: That just does not happen.
- 36:45SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 36:46SPEAKER_04: So I'll give you a tight end if you want to pass it right away.
- 36:50SPEAKER_04: You can do that if you have no idea.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, give me one.
- 36:54SPEAKER_04: So the best tight end, the best fantasy tight end that changed teams this offseason was Isaiah Likely.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: No shot.
- 37:03SPEAKER_03: No shot of that.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: Dude, it took me 15 seconds to remember who Isaiah Likely was.
- 37:11SPEAKER_03: I was thinking of David and Joku.
- 37:14SPEAKER_04: This won't count for the record.
- 37:16SPEAKER_04: What conference?
- 37:18SPEAKER_04: NFC.
- 37:19SPEAKER_04: What conference?
- 37:21SPEAKER_04: NFC.
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: He went to a historically uh bad franchise the last couple years.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: How about the New York Giants?
- 37:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: I'm a tight end guy.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: That's what I am.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't have gotten it if you didn't say the historically bad franchise.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: Look at that.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: I was thinking NFC South again.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: I was gonna say Saints or something, and then you said historically or bad the last couple seasons, and I was like, well, Commanders or Giants are the first two that came to mind.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: So okay, I'm happy with that.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: We'll consider that a sweeping success.
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you you passed.
- 38:02SPEAKER_04: You know your NFL.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: That was pure lock, the last one.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: The other ones I did kind of know, I think.
- 38:08SPEAKER_03: At least somewhere in my mind.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: I feel like I knew.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: But okay.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: See, that's good, Bum.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: Maybe each time you come on, we'll work a couple more in.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: And by the by season start, we'll have it all covered.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: I like it.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: Now, I think that does it for our sports talk this episode, Bum.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: Let's get into.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: I have a couple would you rathers, and these are kind of the first one's kind of a unique situation to you and I in particular, but I think the listeners will be able to relate to this one as well.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: So we have to set the stage.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: The question I have is would you rather go to the dentist every day for a month or plan one weekend getaway with our friend group?
- 38:47SPEAKER_04: You want me to uh set you up here, Sean, and say the dentist every day of the week?
- 38:52SPEAKER_04: I would never want to plan a weekend with my friend group because there's always drama.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: Is that how you actually feel?
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: Because honestly, I'm I would consider the dentist for a month.
- 39:01SPEAKER_04: I would ask the question of is it like a cleaning or am I getting like a cavity filled for 30?
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Just a normal clean.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: You're just getting that little scraper thing, no cavity treatment.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: I would do the I would rather plan a weekend with my friends.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Well, you could take over then as a group leader for the for the upcoming getaways because I've had it.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: I'm close to retiring from the friend group from our fantasy league.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: But basically, every year we as a group get together for our fantasy football draft on Labor Day weekend.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: Everybody knows, block out that weekend in your calendar.
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: Ideally, we go away somewhere and do the draft.
- 39:38SPEAKER_03: Sometimes we'll do it at somebody's house if they have offered and it's local.
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: But we basically try to make a weekend out of it.
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: We all live in different parts of the country, or at least far enough away from each other where we don't see each other that frequently.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: So we block out that Labor Day weekend.
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: We think that's the time to do it.
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: We draft on the Sunday.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: It's a good time for all.
- 39:56SPEAKER_03: We usually get a round of golfing or whatever.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: Well, one of our friends, I'll say his name, Matt, he he offered to host at his house.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: Very nice gesture.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: Here's the issue.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: We have a 10-person league.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: His house is not big enough to accommodate all of us to sleep.
- 40:12SPEAKER_03: It's just not.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: It's a great house.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: It has a beautiful pool, a backyard, it's a beautiful spot to host a draft.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: To host a draft weekend, it is not.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: So a few of us, some would say the only people with any sense of ration or logic in the group, said, hey, if we're going to do a draft day, Matt's house is good.
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: We'll see you there.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: If we want to do the draft weekend, we should look into a shore house.
- 40:37SPEAKER_03: Because, hey, there's a few that are available, they're pretty reasonable, everybody could get there.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: Well, chaos ensued, and some of the some of the most obscene behavior from Matt Kleinfelther and a podcast regular, Ryan Amaday.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: I have to put them on blast bomb.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: It was disgusting yesterday.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: Ryan sent inflammatory texts and then did a move that I just have to respect.
- 40:57SPEAKER_03: He said, I'd like to detach myself from those inflammatory texts that I sent.
- 41:02SPEAKER_03: It wasn't an apology.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: It was just a detachment, which I have to just say I respect it.
- 41:07SPEAKER_03: I'll be using that going forward.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: Just give me your thoughts on the whole situation.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: What should we do for the draft?
- 41:12SPEAKER_04: So, from my perspective, I think I sent like two one or two messages in the group saying I'm down for whatever, I'm free the whole weekend.
- 41:19SPEAKER_04: If echoing your sentiments, if it was one day, maybe a day and a half, maths is perfect, if not shorthouse.
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: I get pulled into a meeting at work, I come back to my phone with like 200 unread messages just from like our one group chat.
- 41:34SPEAKER_04: So I didn't read through them all until like the end of the day as I was like, you know, driving home, got home.
- 41:41SPEAKER_04: And I can see both sides if our plan was to always do that.
- 41:47SPEAKER_04: But if we're doing the entire weekend and we're sleeping three nights, I want it to be a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all involved.
- 41:58SPEAKER_04: If that means spending a couple hundred dollars to ensure that and having a great weekend like we did last year, then I am all for that.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: And that's my sentiment as well.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: And I I was not trying to be inflammatory.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: I in fact said, no, let's do Matt's.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: I'll have a great time, but it'll just be a day thing for me.
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: I only live 35, 40 minutes away from Matt.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: I could easily head home afterwards and sleep in my own bed comfortably.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: So I send that.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: Somehow Matt had a problem with that as well.
- 42:26SPEAKER_03: So he said, I need to stay or else I'm not hosting.
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: Is it true?
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: Is it true?
- 42:31SPEAKER_03: I can't read these guys.
- 42:33SPEAKER_03: Ryan is holding us hostage.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: It's the first draft he's attended in 10 years, and he's calling all the shots.
- 42:39SPEAKER_03: It's really gross.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna spend too much more time on it because we have some other things to get to, but I would sign up for the dentist, and I think I'm pretty firm in that choice.
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: At least at the time being, I'm sick of this group.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: My next would you rather, bum?
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: Would you rather go to jail for one year or go to jail with a Rubik's Cube and be able to leave when it's finished?
- 42:58SPEAKER_04: I feel like I gotta bet on myself with a Rubik's Cube.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: Have fun, brother.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: That's a life sentence for you.
- 43:04SPEAKER_04: You are you are fucked.
- 43:07SPEAKER_04: Well, it's it gives me something to do every day where I'm occupied and maybe it just like if I'm just sitting in jail for a year, like I I never have completed a Rubik's cube.
- 43:20SPEAKER_04: I don't know the secrets, I'm not one of those guys that can spin it up in two seconds.
- 43:24SPEAKER_04: But I I'm willing to bet on myself that I it's gonna take me less than a year to do it.
- 43:30SPEAKER_03: I love that faith in yourself.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the year sentence, and I'm not thinking twice.
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: I honestly think I would be in there for so much longer than a year.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: It's like I it's like me going to jail saying I could get out when I could speak Portuguese.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: I don't know how to speak Portuguese.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna learn it in jail.
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: I'll just be sitting in myself practicing fake Portuguese, just like I'll be rummaging through a Rubik's Cube in my hand.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: I've never once solved one.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: I know my cellmate's not gonna have a Scooby Doo how to solve it.
- 43:59SPEAKER_03: So we're Wh what am I gonna do?
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: Just sit in jail and twist my hands around for you.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's one of those things, is what I'm saying, that you just oh, I accidentally solved it one day.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: I think there's a secret that I don't know.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: And I'd be worried for you that you'd be going gray in that cell.
- 44:14SPEAKER_04: Listen, Sean, I think you're a smart guy.
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: I think you could figure it out, at least the the technique and the secret within maybe a month.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: If you're just doing it non-stop all day, like that's your full-time job of sitting in that cell and just staring at a cube.
- 44:30SPEAKER_04: So I trust both of our abilities to figure it out in less than a year.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: If I was with one of my friends, like if it me and you going in together, yeah, give us the Rubik's Cube.
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: I'm just worried I get to a point where the whole prison, the whole penitentiary is just laughing at me.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: Oh, that guy's out as soon as he figures out the Rubik's Cube.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: He can't get six blues together to save his life.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: It's like, yeah, that's just how I walk around every day with my head down.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: Like, one day I'll figure it out.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: Next thing you know, I'm 58.
- 44:58SPEAKER_04: Well, that and then, like, if you're in a cell with like Jeffrey Dahmer, like not only are you like trying to figure out this Rubik's Cube, but you're also scared for your life.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: So that's like the double whammy.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: You're hoping each guy that gets arrested is like a doctor or something, somebody that went rogue.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 45:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that would be tough.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: I think that's a true, it could go either way.
- 45:16SPEAKER_03: I see your logic.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: If it is a full-time job, I feel like we would get better at it or at least get close.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: I'm just worried about getting over that final hump.
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: Last one I have for you.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Would you rather be given one million dollars or the opportunity to have a straight five-foot putt for$10 million?
- 45:34SPEAKER_03: Could be a little uphill, it's whatever putt you want from five feet.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: You get one shot at it for$10 million, or you could take a million and walk away.
- 45:42SPEAKER_03: What are you doing?
- 45:43SPEAKER_04: So, as a guy that golfed this past Friday and missed, I want to say three to four five-footers.
- 45:53SPEAKER_04: I am easily taking the million dollars and running away.
- 45:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, same here.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: I would I would be so incredibly nervous over that five-foot putt knowing that I just threw away a million dollars.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: I think you're crazy or a professional golfer if you're choosing to take the$10 million option because that is you've got balls of steel, or you're incredibly well off.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: It's one of the two.
- 46:20SPEAKER_04: Now, what if we changed that to free throws out of 10?
- 46:24SPEAKER_04: What number of free throws would you have to make out of 10 to want to take that instead of the putt?
- 46:30SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's a good hypothetical.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: I would say four for me, four or five.
- 46:34SPEAKER_04: Just add it with the pressure.
- 46:36SPEAKER_05: I think I four or four or five.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: Four or five.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: I'm absolutely betting that on myself there.
- 46:43SPEAKER_03: I'm saying I'll make I'll make at least six or seven.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: Now, now will will we be starting the count on a make?
- 46:52SPEAKER_03: Because that's a big that's a big deal.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: I hate it when you miss the okay.
- 46:55SPEAKER_03: That's tough.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: It changes things.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: You get ten.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: You get ten no matter what.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I would say you can make it six.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know the last time I've stepped to a free throw line.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: Maybe not in my life.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: I'm a gifted shooter plum.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: I don't know in my life if I've stepped to a free throw line and shot worse than six out of ten.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: That would be pretty remarkable.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: It's like riding a bike once you have it.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: So I'm thinking I can go back there tomorrow and knock down seven out of ten under pressure.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: Now we just say this: if the first one goes clank off the back rim, we're in trouble because then if your percentages shrink, I'm I'm all of a sudden very scared.
- 47:32SPEAKER_04: But I do think you if you miss the first one, that basketball becomes a bowling ball.
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: 100% it's and your knees feel like spaghetti, vomit on the sweater, it's bad.
- 47:44SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I I would do that just for the thrill of it, I think.
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: And I feel that there's at least a little bit of a buffer where as the putt, if it's one putt, you're that's just there's no way I'm making that one.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: Now, you have some did you see that, or you have at least one did you see that prepared for me, and then I have one for you.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: So let's get into did you see that, and then maybe we can wrap up with a recommendation or something.
- 48:05SPEAKER_04: So I know we didn't talk about this pre-show, Sean, but did you see this video about the old man and the bison?
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: I did.
- 48:12SPEAKER_04: I did see this.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: Please please describe it though for the listener who might not have seen it.
- 48:17SPEAKER_04: So there's a video that I think it was circulating on on Twitter or X where it was at Yellowstone, I believe, Yellowstone National Park.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: There was an old man, and I would assume his grandson next to him just walking.
- 48:33SPEAKER_04: There were a group of trees where them, some cars, and there was a bison laying down just across the way appeared to be sleeping.
- 48:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:43SPEAKER_04: The old man's own business.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, not a care in the world.
- 48:47SPEAKER_04: No.
- 48:48SPEAKER_04: The old man and the I would assume grandson take out their phones and they start filming, taking pictures.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: The bison starts to stir a little bit.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: Not in a way that's like whoa, like we gotta but like just slowly starting to come to it.
- 49:06SPEAKER_04: Next thing you know, there was like this random white truck that kind of drove by too, which fully woke up a bison.
- 49:15SPEAKER_04: I saw it happening in real time, and you could see him accelerate out of frame, knowing what was about to happen.
- 49:21SPEAKER_04: Like, there was no need for that truck, and I feel terrible for this old man because if you don't know what happened, is the truck fully woke up the bison to the point where the bison slowly just stalks this man walking ever so slowly towards him.
- 49:38SPEAKER_04: Luckily, the kid got out of frame out of picture, so he was safe.
- 49:41SPEAKER_04: So now it's just old man versus bison.
- 49:44SPEAKER_04: This man had like a white Santa beard.
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: Suddenly the bison Yes, the bison charges him.
- 49:50SPEAKER_04: The man was by a group of trees, so he's like dodging and weaving through the trees.
- 49:55SPEAKER_04: So you see like the man go in the trees, the bison go in the trees, the man come out, they do two laps around the trees, and then suddenly the bison gets a hold of him, throws him up in the air.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: This poor man might have been 15 feet in the air.
- 50:09SPEAKER_04: He's turned completely upside down.
- 50:12SPEAKER_04: There's a hilarious still shot of the man just in the air, and his feet are just like six feet above his head.
- 50:20SPEAKER_04: Apparently, he's okay.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: He broke a few bones, but it's not life-threatening stuff.
- 50:27SPEAKER_04: Again, we laugh because I would say it's equally terrifying and funny.
- 50:31SPEAKER_04: If you haven't seen this video, please go seek it out because it's it's amusing.
- 50:43SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 50:44SPEAKER_03: Like they're they're just ones you're always gonna remember.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: And I this I think is one of those.
- 50:49SPEAKER_03: This is something you could talk about for the rest of time.
- 50:51SPEAKER_03: Thankfully, he is okay because you don't want to laugh at it, but the whole situation, the picture that you painted there, from the bull was or the bison was resting to the truck, seemingly taking things from six to midnight immediately.
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: It was just a great video.
- 51:09SPEAKER_03: It was so good, in fact, that I had to verify it was an AI the first couple times I saw it, because I was stunned that that was real.
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: But it does turn out to be real, absolutely an all-time video.
- 51:18SPEAKER_03: Everybody needs to go watch if you haven't.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: I want to ask you, Blum, if you're just trade places with that 65-year-old man, are you evading the bison?
- 51:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, probably not.
- 51:30SPEAKER_03: Now, your body shape up in that air would be I'd be to see it that you were gonna be okay.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, it would be just be a straight line up in the air.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: It would be, I mean, any of us, if you're friends, I would the guys that are bitching about the draft, put please.
- 51:50SPEAKER_03: I wish it didn't happen to that guy.
- 51:52SPEAKER_03: I wish it happened to Ryan Amaday or Matt Kleinfelter.
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: I wish you could just have them trade bases to trade places and go monoe mono with that bison because the boy oh boy, what a funny, funny scene that would be.
- 52:04SPEAKER_04: Like, I would like to think I would be able to last longer than the old man in terms of avoiding contact, but like I'm not going to outrun or like eventually he will get me because I will just get tired running around the same tree for the time in a row.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: Just basically that's what all I would do.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: I would have no chance, obviously, in the open field on 10 a second.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: He's catching me like a safety in in 0.2 seconds, and I'm just getting lit up.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: So I think the only chance I would have would be to just live in those trees, just duck in and out of the trees, and hopefully he accidentally runs into one.
- 52:42SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 52:42SPEAKER_03: I I don't think there's a way out without some some sort of injury for anybody.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: So an all-time video.
- 52:48SPEAKER_03: I'm glad you brought that up.
- 52:49SPEAKER_03: The only thing I had, did you see this plum?
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: It was almost equally as painful to watch this as the old man getting flipped in the air.
- 52:57SPEAKER_03: But did you see Connor McGregor's latest attempt at a return to the ring?
- 53:02SPEAKER_04: I did not order it or watch it.
- 53:04SPEAKER_04: Um I did hear about it, and yeah, he's just a scam artist, I feel like.
- 53:09SPEAKER_04: Like, I don't think he was actually hurt.
- 53:11SPEAKER_04: I mean, being five years away from fighting and then just randomly coming back.
- 53:17SPEAKER_04: I don't know if he didn't want to fight, whatever he wanted to do, but I there's some funny business going on with this, and it I don't think it's injury related.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: A hundred percent.
- 53:28SPEAKER_03: I hadn't seen anything like it because the UFC's on Paramount now, so I just put it on after the World Cup game had ended, and I was like, if this fight's coming on soon, I'll watch it.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: I put it on and the fight was just starting, and I'm not kidding.
- 53:41SPEAKER_03: I thought I was being like trolled.
- 53:43SPEAKER_03: I thought it was a I I thought something happened in the warm-up, or I thought he tore his ACL in the warm-up.
- 53:48SPEAKER_03: No, it just appeared that he couldn't use his legs and just took a dive, like you said, just a complete scam.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: I would assume we're safe in saying that his career's over.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: I don't think you can come back from this.
- 53:59SPEAKER_04: I hope not, and I hope people stop paying for his fights because, like, if you're still doing that, then you're just asking to lose money and be disappointed at this point.
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 54:13SPEAKER_03: Well, um, anything else before we head out?
- 54:15SPEAKER_03: Any recommendations, anything you've been doing?
- 54:16SPEAKER_03: Any trips recently?
- 54:18SPEAKER_04: Only thing is uh we started watching uh Big Brother uh this week.
- 54:22SPEAKER_04: It was the season premiere.
- 54:23SPEAKER_04: I don't know if you're into that, Sean.
- 54:24SPEAKER_04: Uh it's kind of like indoor survivor, basically.
- 54:27SPEAKER_04: It's over the summer.
- 54:28SPEAKER_04: You're locked in a house for I think upwards of 80, 90 days, you vote people out.
- 54:33SPEAKER_04: Um, so similar vibes.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: So we're starting to get into that.
- 54:36SPEAKER_04: Uh I've never watched it before.
- 54:37SPEAKER_04: Like my parents watch it, they've said it's great, but we're giving it a shot for the first time.
- 54:41SPEAKER_04: And I think we're two episodes down, so kind of hard to get a grasp on how I feel about it.
- 54:47SPEAKER_04: But uh just a new show I'm watching.
- 54:48SPEAKER_04: So if you're a big brother or even a Survivor fan and you've never seen Big Brother, give it a shot because it's a kind of similar show and kind of gets you through the summer into football season.
- 54:57SPEAKER_03: That's kind of all we're looking for at this point.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: Just get us get us through to football.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I have never seen Big Brother.
- 55:04SPEAKER_03: I know that people who like Survivor do tend to like Big Brother as well.
- 55:09SPEAKER_03: So maybe one day it'll make the list of, you know, the break glass in case of emergency board type shows.
- 55:15SPEAKER_03: I haven't been watching much TV other than live sports because of the World Cup, so that's kind of consumed all my free time.
- 55:21SPEAKER_03: I did take a trip to cousin Jeremy.
- 55:24SPEAKER_03: He's obviously a regular on this program.
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: He invited us to his lake house this past weekend.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: A brilliant time.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: It was it was great to see Jeremy in his natural element.
- 55:33SPEAKER_03: He's a man of the woods, who would have known the city slicker from Philadelphia who drafted baked potato and beer cup or beer ball in the backyard barbecue draft.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: He does, he does, he's a man of the lake, so it was a fun weekend with some friends up there.
- 55:50SPEAKER_03: I have not been watching too much, other than my dad started Game of Thrones, and when I was visiting some family over the fourth, I was watching some episodes with him.
- 55:59SPEAKER_03: It's a true privilege to watch somebody experience that for the first time.
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: I wish I could delete that from my memory and go through and watch Game of Thrones again.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: So I will be starting.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: That's a long way of saying I will be starting the new House of the Dragon season, which has come out.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: And it's been highly recommended by Michael Collins.
- 56:15SPEAKER_03: So that's what I have on the docket.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: Anything else before we head out?
- 56:19SPEAKER_04: No.
- 56:20SPEAKER_04: Uh thank you for having me, Sean, as always.
- 56:22SPEAKER_04: And uh hopefully we're winners at the open this week with one of our five guys.
- 56:26SPEAKER_04: So uh we'll keep an eye out for that.
- 56:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the Tortured Fans 5 makes their debut.
- 56:31SPEAKER_03: We need to build momentum.
- 56:32SPEAKER_03: We gotta start strong.
- 56:33SPEAKER_03: Blum, thank you as always for joining me.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: It's always a good time.
- 56:36SPEAKER_03: Listeners, thank you all for tuning in, and until next time, take care.
