In which a great crowd gathers on Horsell Common to witness the unfurling of the mysterious cylinder’s lid, expecting a terrestrial figure but instead encountering a most alien and unsettling being. The menagerie of writhing tentacles and luminous eyes, combined with the creature's grotesque, leathery bulk, instils a profound horror and fascination in all those present, as the scene closes in uneasy stillness around the pit.
