Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: On this episode of four All Nerds, we are here
- 0:02Speaker 1: to talk about one of the greatest shows of all time.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Season two of Handles.
- 0:21Speaker 3: And What's Up, y'all and welcome to a very very
- 0:24Speaker 3: special episode.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Of the four All Nerds show. We are here to
- 0:29Speaker 2: talk about it and or season two.
- 0:32Speaker 1: The entire season is now out on Disney Plus, so
- 0:36Speaker 1: if you haven't seen it and you're worried about spoilers,
- 0:39Speaker 1: you might want to log off, go finish the joint.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's incredible, come back and watch this.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I ain't got my AKA tonight because I'm too hype
- 0:47Speaker 3: about this show, so I'm sure to get right into it.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I've got a bunch of special guests. I'm gonna start
- 0:52Speaker 1: off with my brother Melow Barrow Mellow Brown. Please let
- 0:55Speaker 1: them look. People out there know what's.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Going on with Mellow Blah?
- 0:59Speaker 4: What was it?
- 0:59Speaker 3: Akaar uh? I've got too many other akas. Hey, how's
- 1:08Speaker 3: it going all right?
- 1:09Speaker 1: And also we are joined by Joel for All Nerds
- 1:13Speaker 1: listeners know him as our social media maestro.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Hey, that's Joel. I don't have any akas either. That
- 1:20Speaker 5: was too much going on?
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it really is, you know, it's no worries sonight
- 1:24Speaker 1: we you know sayings Aka's unless Porsia Patterson, the last
- 1:28Speaker 1: of the four, has something to add to it.
- 1:31Speaker 6: I have nothing, sadly, I have no Star Wars ones,
- 1:34Speaker 6: all of minor Castle Black related or But like I
- 1:38Speaker 6: think there's a good leg and Or there will be
- 1:41Speaker 6: no more.
- 1:42Speaker 4: There's just real going after this, right, So here we
- 1:44Speaker 4: are sadness.
- 1:46Speaker 1: My first thought is, like to everyone listening, tomorrow, I'm
- 1:50Speaker 1: going to go to a screening of and Andor clips
- 1:53Speaker 1: and stuff with the god Tony Gilroy himself. And one
- 1:57Speaker 1: of my main questions I wanted to ask is what
- 2:00Speaker 1: could you do an and Or special edition where Cassie
- 2:02Speaker 1: and survives?
- 2:04Speaker 2: You know he talking about I know that's not the
- 2:09Speaker 2: point of it.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Please don't know. I'm not going to that's for a
- 2:13Speaker 3: mo Masma show, but not that. There's a lot of
- 2:16Speaker 3: shows on Will Mom's show. You know a lot of
- 2:18Speaker 3: things I could ask for. But yes, we are at
- 2:21Speaker 3: the end of and Or. It's been years in the making.
- 2:26Speaker 3: We've all been waiting for this, you know. First off,
- 2:29Speaker 3: just you know, what did y'all think of season two
- 2:32Speaker 3: and the series in general? So I love season two.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I thought it was incredible and to just give a
- 2:41Speaker 3: quick rap, real quick. I think the series as a
- 2:43Speaker 3: whole is now my personal favorite series, especially being in
- 2:48Speaker 3: like just television production. Just seeing every little piece of
- 2:53Speaker 3: how everything works while also getting film quality acting performances,
- 2:58Speaker 3: special effects. Everything is just above and beyond what TV
- 3:04Speaker 3: should normally do. As long as I keep this career,
- 3:08Speaker 3: this is the show that I'm going to actually be
- 3:10Speaker 3: chasing and I'm proud of it for that reason. In
- 3:14Speaker 3: regards to season two, I'm not gonna throw the masterpiece
- 3:17Speaker 3: word out there. That is something I used for season one,
- 3:20Speaker 3: but for season two, it's one of the best seasons
- 3:24Speaker 3: of television I've ever seen. It's incredible. It had highs
- 3:27Speaker 3: and lows, but I think the lows made the highs higher.
- 3:30Speaker 3: But at the same time they saw I love but
- 3:33Speaker 3: so I like it, you know, I love it.
- 3:36Speaker 2: All right?
- 3:37Speaker 5: Joel, Yeah, I really enjoyed this season too. I think
- 3:42Speaker 5: for me it was like one just how like relevant
- 3:45Speaker 5: shit was to like what's happening now, and just like
- 3:48Speaker 5: how much they have I think put in the group chat,
- 3:49Speaker 5: like is that euphoria clip?
- 3:51Speaker 3: Wait? Is this play about us?
- 3:54Speaker 5: Like all the things that were happening Oh okay, cool,
- 3:59Speaker 5: someone's soon's taking note of things that are going around here.
- 4:04Speaker 5: So yeah, I think, like I really enjoyed that, and
- 4:06Speaker 5: for me, I also just really loved like it showed
- 4:09Speaker 5: the humanity side of like what it means to be
- 4:11Speaker 5: in a rebellion and what it means to be a rebel,
- 4:13Speaker 5: Like at the end of the day, these are also
- 4:15Speaker 5: still people with like emotions and things that they have
- 4:17Speaker 5: to go through, and I really enjoyed that, like and
- 4:19Speaker 5: or explored that some more like yeah, they're part of
- 4:22Speaker 5: this big cause, but like what does that impact have
- 4:24Speaker 5: on like your actual life?
- 4:26Speaker 2: For sure.
- 4:27Speaker 6: I've mentioned this before in different places, but Roguwan is
- 4:30Speaker 6: like the reason why I actually care about Star Wars
- 4:32Speaker 6: at all.
- 4:34Speaker 4: So Indoor was.
- 4:35Speaker 6: The thing for me since it was announced, I was like,
- 4:38Speaker 6: oh my god, like I cannot wait, this is going
- 4:40Speaker 6: to be amazing, and it lived up exactly and above.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Like I didn't even set expectations for it.
- 4:46Speaker 6: I just wanted to live and ride the ride, and
- 4:48Speaker 6: I just enjoyed the ride the whole way through. There
- 4:52Speaker 6: were components of it that I was just like, it
- 4:54Speaker 6: gave me aspects of gamer Thrones at its peak when
- 4:58Speaker 6: it was like, there's they're gonna they're gonna do stuff
- 5:01Speaker 6: with characters that you're not going to expect them to do.
- 5:04Speaker 6: You're like, truly, they're not, and then they do it.
- 5:06Speaker 6: And I appreciated that throughout both seasons, and I really
- 5:12Speaker 6: there were there are things that I was just like
- 5:15Speaker 6: when I look at Andoor, overall, I'm very happy with
- 5:20Speaker 6: like where it went. And I don't even think Tony
- 5:23Speaker 6: was Tony Groroy and like at all like part of
- 5:26Speaker 6: the process for Rogue one, because.
- 5:28Speaker 3: It's it's it's really touch and go. Tony Gilroy was
- 5:32Speaker 3: in a position where he replaced the original director out
- 5:36Speaker 3: of respect for that person who won't say his name,
- 5:38Speaker 3: but here he had to come in and do a
- 5:42Speaker 3: lot of cleanup, but he also heightened roles like Cassie
- 5:46Speaker 3: and and or in that regards.
- 5:48Speaker 6: Yeah, so I just feel like it was a credit
- 5:51Speaker 6: to like all the things I really enjoyed about Rogue one.
- 5:53Speaker 6: It just like took it and I'm like, you can
- 5:56Speaker 6: tell that what the work was that was done, because
- 5:59Speaker 6: there's sometimes where you see, like in different stories in
- 6:02Speaker 6: different series of different movies, where their original purpose.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Doesn't really get lived up to.
- 6:08Speaker 6: I get that a prequel, and I really was like,
- 6:11Speaker 6: this actually made me feel like it flowed well into it.
- 6:14Speaker 6: And this is, like you're saying, Mellow was like a
- 6:15Speaker 6: standard set for like, if you're going to do a series,
- 6:19Speaker 6: especially if you can do a prequel like this has
- 6:21Speaker 6: got to be like what you look at as your
- 6:24Speaker 6: standard for how you're going to pull that together.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Like Melo said, I consider the first season to be
- 6:29Speaker 1: an absolute masterpiece, probably one of my, if not my favorite,
- 6:34Speaker 1: you know, one season of television ever. And there were
- 6:38Speaker 1: a bit more lows in the second season, I think,
- 6:42Speaker 1: but at the same time, even those lows I felt
- 6:46Speaker 1: like contributed to the overall story, and as a second season,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I thought it was near perfect as well as a series,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I think it's near perfect. Like Melo said, It's one
- 6:56Speaker 1: of those things that I just feel like I'm always
- 6:58Speaker 1: trying to be conveying my work too, Like is this,
- 7:01Speaker 1: you know, on the level of and Or? Or is
- 7:02Speaker 1: this trying to say the type of things that and
- 7:05Speaker 1: Or is trying to say? Because that's something that I
- 7:07Speaker 1: just always want to write and talk about revolution and
- 7:11Speaker 1: change and growth and living your life, you know, in
- 7:15Speaker 1: a free way, and that's something that I felt like
- 7:19Speaker 1: this show really did, like Joel said, the way they
- 7:21Speaker 1: explore the humanity of what it does to people to
- 7:25Speaker 1: be in a rebellion, like me and Melo will talk
- 7:27Speaker 1: about when we talk about the first three episodes. One
- 7:29Speaker 1: of my favorite quotes ever is you know, when you
- 7:31Speaker 1: talk about revolution, you better be ready to eat rats
- 7:33Speaker 1: to survive. And if you're not ready to eat rats
- 7:36Speaker 1: and don't talk about revolution. And this show showed that
- 7:39Speaker 1: you're going to eat a lot of rats and a
- 7:41Speaker 1: lot worse than that. And I thought that was incredible,
- 7:44Speaker 1: And it just also just touched on what it means to,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you know, live your life of purpose, and that's something
- 7:51Speaker 1: that I feel like a lot of television, a lot
- 7:53Speaker 1: of media doesn't do it.
- 7:54Speaker 2: It's not inspiring. And that's the way that I have.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I have a problem with a lot of media because
- 8:00Speaker 1: of that, because I feel like it's the easy way
- 8:03Speaker 1: out to offer no hope, you know, or to just
- 8:06Speaker 1: be the checked and depressed about everything, and it's much
- 8:10Speaker 1: harder to be hopeful and positive about things of life.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But I feel like that's just a better way to
- 8:15Speaker 1: go through things, and I struggle with it myself. I'm
- 8:18Speaker 1: sure everyone does, but that's why I rely and I
- 8:21Speaker 1: love media that you know, actually encourages people to live
- 8:25Speaker 1: free and to be hopeful about the future. So getting
- 8:29Speaker 1: into it, did anyone have or what was some of
- 8:33Speaker 1: your favorite moments from season two or favorite episodes?
- 8:39Speaker 6: As an episode, I can't remember the numbers right now.
- 8:44Speaker 6: The one with Claia doing what she needed to do
- 8:47Speaker 6: and as seeing us into the background of like like
- 8:50Speaker 6: when are you talking about being a rebel? We're talking
- 8:52Speaker 6: about being a revolutionary and being having to eat rats,
- 8:55Speaker 6: Like are you willing to do what you say you're
- 8:58Speaker 6: going to do? So her being young and being like
- 9:02Speaker 6: we have to go in like we have to be
- 9:04Speaker 6: like we have to get these people, and he's like
- 9:07Speaker 6: and for Luthin to be like, okay, but you need
- 9:11Speaker 6: to be aware of like the like what happens from that,
- 9:14Speaker 6: like what are the ramifications? And she's her like showing
- 9:18Speaker 6: like the juxtaposition of those scenes as she's doing what
- 9:22Speaker 6: she's doing, and I feel like it's it really plays
- 9:27Speaker 6: with the idea of what you think a revolution will
- 9:32Speaker 6: feel like, what will happen because I think I think generally,
- 9:37Speaker 6: like the general audience, you're gonna think, Oh, she's going
- 9:40Speaker 6: to try to figure out how a way to save
- 9:42Speaker 6: this person or how to get him out of the situation.
- 9:45Speaker 6: And that's not what you do when you're a rebel.
- 9:47Speaker 6: That's not how this all goes down. You have to
- 9:50Speaker 6: be prepared to do the thing that is the hardest
- 9:53Speaker 6: thing for you to ever do. And I really appreciated
- 9:57Speaker 6: them doing that and then for her to be the
- 10:01Speaker 6: way that she was out of sorts afterwards, I'm like,
- 10:03Speaker 6: that makes sense for her, Like it all just made
- 10:05Speaker 6: sense and aligned with her characterization, and aligned with the
- 10:07Speaker 6: circumstances and aligned with like.
- 10:09Speaker 4: All the needs of the storytelling.
- 10:12Speaker 6: So I was just I really appreciated like what they
- 10:15Speaker 6: did with that episode and with her, Like I seeing
- 10:18Speaker 6: her in season one, I'd always wondered, like, how did
- 10:21Speaker 6: she become this person?
- 10:22Speaker 4: And who was she really to this like.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Cause, and actually being able to see it in season
- 10:28Speaker 6: two and like give it a get clearing like wrap
- 10:30Speaker 6: up was actually very compelling, and it'd be cool to
- 10:34Speaker 6: see if there's anything that comes from this, it'd be
- 10:37Speaker 6: cool to see like what that influence does to the
- 10:39Speaker 6: rest of the universe.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Claia played by Elizabeth Doulau, I'm not sure if I
- 10:46Speaker 1: pronouncing their last name right. Was my MVP of season two,
- 10:49Speaker 1: Like I thought, Playa's character, everything they showed, the way
- 10:54Speaker 1: she responded, the situations, everything was just absolutely beautiful and credible.
- 10:59Speaker 1: And like you said, Portie, it was that moment then
- 11:01Speaker 1: because she walked in and there was no hesitation, and
- 11:04Speaker 1: that's what really just sold it. I mean that whole episode,
- 11:08Speaker 1: and that was episode ten, So that was like really
- 11:12Speaker 1: daring for them too. Just to do that, you know,
- 11:14Speaker 1: towards the end of the season, to take this time
- 11:17Speaker 1: out and show you her origin story and Lutheran's origin
- 11:19Speaker 1: story towards the end of the series was really daring
- 11:23Speaker 1: to me as well. And then there was, like I said,
- 11:26Speaker 1: there was just no hesitation. She walked in and did
- 11:28Speaker 1: what needed to be done. It was not knowing I'm
- 11:30Speaker 1: coming here to save this dude. He's already tried to,
- 11:32Speaker 1: you know, unlive himself. He already knows what the situation is.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I was honestly mad at Lutheran for not having the
- 11:39Speaker 1: whole building wires so he could have got Dedra in one,
- 11:41Speaker 1: you know, but I guess you don't want to blow up,
- 11:43Speaker 1: you know, take unnecessary lives around them, et cetera.
- 11:46Speaker 2: But you know, you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Sometimes I kind of.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Think he would have took some unnecessary lives, like you
- 11:56Speaker 3: see the bodies he left behind before.
- 11:58Speaker 2: That, Yo, poor Lani Man.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I just rewatched the episode before we started, and my
- 12:04Speaker 1: man really told him about Yavin. You know, it was like,
- 12:08Speaker 1: I don't know if y'all know of mice and men.
- 12:10Speaker 1: When he was like, yo, go look at the flowers
- 12:12Speaker 1: and then you know.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Gave walking dead.
- 12:15Speaker 4: They did that to the little girl flowers.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Look at the flowers. Yeah, my man told him about
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yavin and then left him on the bench as well. No,
- 12:26Speaker 3: final that he gives that speech in season one that
- 12:29Speaker 3: he gives Lannie is entirely what season two is about.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Mm hmm, Like everything where he's like, like, what does
- 12:36Speaker 3: this cost, like to give up empathy, compassion, comfort, safety,
- 12:43Speaker 3: my sanity. Uh but but the things that you maintain
- 12:47Speaker 3: are like hope and consideration and like and that's the
- 12:52Speaker 3: the one thing they showed. It is actually like the
- 12:55Speaker 3: thesis of the show that it's just like because we
- 12:58Speaker 3: are compassionate for each other, because we're building community in
- 13:00Speaker 3: the process of fighting against this thing that the empire
- 13:03Speaker 3: itself is going to implode, and because it isn't made
- 13:07Speaker 3: of any of those things, it's going to eat itself
- 13:08Speaker 3: to death. And that's also something we see in the
- 13:12Speaker 3: news regularly. It is one of those like very clever
- 13:15Speaker 3: things where it's just like every regime of fascism is
- 13:18Speaker 3: going to eat itself. And that's even embedded in the
- 13:20Speaker 3: Star Wars history, like the Sith rule where there could
- 13:23Speaker 3: only be two because it kinds of telling you, ye,
- 13:27Speaker 3: never be more than two Siths.
- 13:29Speaker 2: So seeing.
- 13:31Speaker 3: The entire season where it's just like we took this
- 13:34Speaker 3: one speech and we're going to make you like experience
- 13:37Speaker 3: it is a genius way to do a season, especially
- 13:42Speaker 3: when you're dealing with characters that aren't powerful. They're like
- 13:45Speaker 3: actually like quite weak, and you're watching the person who
- 13:49Speaker 3: passes the baton and how important that is. Like we
- 13:54Speaker 3: are all also in positions where we're going to be
- 13:57Speaker 3: continuing the fight, and it's the one with a king speech.
- 14:00Speaker 3: It was just like, you know, like I've seen the horizon,
- 14:03Speaker 3: but I know I probably will never get there, m h.
- 14:06Speaker 3: And I know that like even with all black people,
- 14:09Speaker 3: we won't be able to get there, it's gonna take
- 14:11Speaker 3: something else, it's gonna take something a little extra, and
- 14:15Speaker 3: the fact that these characters don't know what that is,
- 14:18Speaker 3: but they're doing it anyway. It's yeah, it's it's amazing, Joe.
- 14:24Speaker 5: I think for me, my favorite episode was when they
- 14:28Speaker 5: got my Mathma out the Senate. It was like the
- 14:32Speaker 5: way I was stressed, even though I knew shereet now.
- 14:35Speaker 5: I was like, I know she makes it, yeah, see
- 14:37Speaker 5: her in the old movies, but like the whole time,
- 14:40Speaker 5: I'm just like, how is she going to get out
- 14:41Speaker 5: of this? Like all the betrayals that were happening, And
- 14:45Speaker 5: then like her speech at the end kind of like
- 14:49Speaker 5: it's Emperor Palpatina, like he's the one, He's the one
- 14:52Speaker 5: behind all this bullshit and like it's all a lie.
- 14:55Speaker 5: And I think it was a great moment too of
- 14:58Speaker 5: like both her and and Senator or Ghana realizing like
- 15:02Speaker 5: there's there's only so much we can do, like in
- 15:05Speaker 5: these positions, like there's only so much you can do
- 15:08Speaker 5: as a senator, being a part of this government, being
- 15:10Speaker 5: a part of this system, Like this was their moment
- 15:13Speaker 5: where they had to like break free to see like
- 15:15Speaker 5: there's a different role I have to play because I've
- 15:17Speaker 5: done all I can.
- 15:18Speaker 3: In what I'm doing.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I'm not sure if I I think one of definitely
- 15:23Speaker 1: the player, you know, and lose an episode was one
- 15:25Speaker 1: of my favorites, and this is something I want to
- 15:30Speaker 1: talk to Melow about and it's not my favorite. But
- 15:34Speaker 1: the Gorman stuff was difficult. Yeah, It's like during the
- 15:44Speaker 1: first season when Cassiane was in prison, that was some
- 15:49Speaker 1: of the most difficult stuff for me to watch. Actually
- 15:52Speaker 1: was reading an interview with gilbroy where they were talking
- 15:54Speaker 1: about that recently, and they were talking about how when
- 15:57Speaker 1: they modeled to prison, it wasn't like on anything they'd seen.
- 16:00Speaker 1: But unfortunately, to me, it was so reminiscent of the
- 16:03Speaker 1: when I was incarcerated, because we were incarcerated in a
- 16:06Speaker 1: place that we didn't have bars on the windows and
- 16:09Speaker 1: things of that nature, and there weren't a lot of guards,
- 16:11Speaker 1: and that's just how it is, and so it was
- 16:13Speaker 1: very reminiscent of that. And I know for Melow this
- 16:15Speaker 1: season and for a lot of us, just the Gorman
- 16:18Speaker 1: stuff is very tough to deal with because it mirrors
- 16:22Speaker 1: our real life and what is happening in the real
- 16:25Speaker 1: world so much.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Right now and throughout history for that matter.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Like that's something that's really kind of messed up about
- 16:32Speaker 1: the show, is that it's not that it's really oh look,
- 16:34Speaker 1: they're getting everything that we're talking that's happening right now.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It's just like the themes of this nature are happening
- 16:39Speaker 1: throughout world history, throughout time. You know, throughout human history,
- 16:44Speaker 1: as long as we've been on this planet, we've had
- 16:45Speaker 1: these type of conflicts and then these type of actions.
- 16:49Speaker 1: In the way that a fascist system replies to rebellions
- 16:55Speaker 1: is tried and true, and you know, it's only improved upon.
- 16:58Speaker 1: So and I know Mellow has some experience with that,
- 17:01Speaker 1: So I wanted to know how you felt about Gorman and.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Everything that went on in that.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yeah, real triggers. Yeah, I understand, Uh yeah for listeners
- 17:14Speaker 3: who don't know what was it. I was also in
- 17:17Speaker 3: the Baltimore riots when it happened, and it was structured
- 17:21Speaker 3: the same way. And when I say structured, I mean
- 17:25Speaker 3: like it takes a long time of planning events to
- 17:30Speaker 3: happen so that way, on the day of everything is
- 17:35Speaker 3: orchestrated perfectly, so that way you have the perfect enemy
- 17:40Speaker 3: to be your victim. And so like in regards to
- 17:45Speaker 3: Baltimore was real high level. A bit of it we
- 17:48Speaker 3: all know about, like the police brutality that caused the
- 17:52Speaker 3: riots to build up to that point, how the city
- 17:55Speaker 3: was supporting the police for that to happen and saying
- 17:57Speaker 3: that it's a violent city. Of course, there's thing that happens,
- 18:00Speaker 3: et cetera. So they have a narrative, but they also
- 18:03Speaker 3: did something specific that a lot of people don't know
- 18:05Speaker 3: about it if you research it. They actually took kids
- 18:09Speaker 3: that were coming out of school and they had a
- 18:12Speaker 3: spat team meet them outside of their school, and they
- 18:14Speaker 3: canceled all their buses, so they forced them to walk
- 18:17Speaker 3: with the swat team that kept riling them up. They
- 18:20Speaker 3: even refused to let them go through a mall that
- 18:24Speaker 3: they usually passed through, and they routed them somewhere else,
- 18:28Speaker 3: which was towards the city, and it was exactly what
- 18:31Speaker 3: they needed. It was exactly what they wanted. And from
- 18:34Speaker 3: there you can start restricting or pulling any laws out
- 18:39Speaker 3: of place because they're just like their animals, we could
- 18:41Speaker 3: do whatever you want to me. And the way that
- 18:44Speaker 3: the show kind of builds up to this where they
- 18:47Speaker 3: give you that sense of inevitability and if you look
- 18:51Speaker 3: at all of the Gorman characters, whom I like a lot,
- 18:55Speaker 3: I like the Gorman's characters because they all didn't agree,
- 19:00Speaker 3: and that is the reality of what a revolution is.
- 19:02Speaker 3: You have motherfucker's arguing all the time over like I
- 19:05Speaker 3: think rhythmic dance will be the way we get out
- 19:08Speaker 3: of this, you know, or anything like that. Like everybody
- 19:12Speaker 3: has an opinion as to how they kind of like
- 19:13Speaker 3: defeat this moment, but for the Gorman in particular, none
- 19:18Speaker 3: of them were wrong. Some of them were like, we
- 19:20Speaker 3: need to pull back because I think this is a trap,
- 19:22Speaker 3: while other ones are just like, if we don't do something,
- 19:24Speaker 3: we're all going to die, and they're both correct. They
- 19:29Speaker 3: were just results of what this war is doing. Like
- 19:34Speaker 3: even Luthan when like Casking is just like, what are
- 19:36Speaker 3: you going to do when like when this whole thing
- 19:39Speaker 3: blows up, and Luthan is referring to them where he's
- 19:42Speaker 3: just like they will burn brightly, like it will be
- 19:45Speaker 3: just a signal that is needed to make other people rise.
- 19:49Speaker 3: And that's also fucked though, And it's I think it
- 19:54Speaker 3: was done incredibly well. Making us experience it is necessary,
- 20:00Speaker 3: but it's not. It's not an episode I'm going to
- 20:02Speaker 3: be coming back to a lot. That's that's something I'm
- 20:04Speaker 3: gonna be watching on repeat, especially when it gets down
- 20:09Speaker 3: to just like every time someone fights back a little bit.
- 20:13Speaker 3: They increased the firepower to the point where they had
- 20:15Speaker 3: droids murdering people instantly, like on site, and it's just
- 20:22Speaker 3: like that all they needed was that a little bit
- 20:23Speaker 3: of escalation, and we're going to see that in a
- 20:26Speaker 3: coming Days of America where it's just like they're going
- 20:28Speaker 3: to keep trying to find ways to push people mm
- 20:30Speaker 3: hmm doing that as well.
- 20:31Speaker 1: But no, and you mentioned MLK earlier, and to me,
- 20:36Speaker 1: it's like a lot of the stuff that MLK did
- 20:38Speaker 1: gets lost in history where people just know that, you know,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I have a dream speech. But MLK once sent kids
- 20:45Speaker 1: to the front lines because he knew that the police
- 20:47Speaker 1: would send dogs to attack the kids. And he's like,
- 20:50Speaker 1: that's trying to get in the national newspapers and everyone
- 20:53Speaker 1: will see this. So it's a very lutins move, you know,
- 20:56Speaker 1: to do that, But it's also the reality of when
- 20:58Speaker 1: you're fighting a war sometimes you have to do these
- 21:01Speaker 1: type of things. And Sawgra's line, you know, from season one,
- 21:05Speaker 1: is still just it's one of the greatest lines to
- 21:08Speaker 1: me of all time, you know, and it's so simple,
- 21:09Speaker 1: let's call it war.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Like that shit just burns in my head.
- 21:13Speaker 1: But yeah, thank you for that, mellow, because I know,
- 21:17Speaker 1: you know, that was tough, and I know it's tough
- 21:19Speaker 1: for all of us because I was bawling at the
- 21:22Speaker 1: end when Castine is driving away and you hear you know,
- 21:28Speaker 1: the voice on the radio, because like we say, it's
- 21:31Speaker 1: just you know the reality of what's going on right now,
- 21:33Speaker 1: like Palestine and a congo, I mean all over the world.
- 21:37Speaker 1: You know, they're oppressed, people being murdered and it feels
- 21:40Speaker 1: like no one is listening to them.
- 21:43Speaker 2: So yeah, it's tough.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's definitely a conversation about choosing your moments as
- 21:51Speaker 3: also a conversation about like the ones that you don't choose,
- 21:55Speaker 3: how do you how do you eat that? Like how
- 21:58Speaker 3: do you continue to get up getting the shower and
- 22:01Speaker 3: still say that you're you're doing the right thing. And
- 22:07Speaker 3: the fact that they didn't let anyone off easy, the
- 22:11Speaker 3: fact that like it was so difficult for everyone to
- 22:14Speaker 3: sleep after that, Like every single character you could feel
- 22:17Speaker 3: the weight of it as they're like just trying to
- 22:19Speaker 3: exist to the point where like mon Mathma Canny, She's
- 22:22Speaker 3: just like, I got to speak out loud, even if
- 22:24Speaker 3: this kills me, leading into what I agree is also
- 22:28Speaker 3: the well I think is the best episode the season,
- 22:31Speaker 3: and my MVP personally is saw Gorera. But that's a
- 22:33Speaker 3: whole we'll get into that. I think Saw Gorera is
- 22:37Speaker 3: the best thing that ever happened to Star Wars. That's
- 22:40Speaker 3: another thing to get into. But yeah, wait, what was
- 22:43Speaker 3: your favorite episode? Then? It's also the mond Mathma escape.
- 22:49Speaker 3: That is one of those things where it's just like
- 22:51Speaker 3: how do you pull this off?
- 22:53Speaker 2: Like how do you like?
- 22:54Speaker 3: It takes so much luck. It takes like just every
- 22:59Speaker 3: bit of like anything you can to get out of instance,
- 23:03Speaker 3: because we do have like the show has to repeat
- 23:05Speaker 3: beat of and or going back to that corus and
- 23:09Speaker 3: pulling someone out of it. But the thing that's interesting
- 23:12Speaker 3: is that every time it gets harder because like that
- 23:15Speaker 3: war is starting a war real hard right now doesn't
- 23:20Speaker 3: happen in the streets. But yeah, all right it Portia.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Did you say your favorite episode.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Was the one with Clea Oh?
- 23:30Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I'm always down for an assassin like take
- 23:35Speaker 6: take out like I don't know, it just does stuff
- 23:37Speaker 6: for me. But whenever you were talking earlier about like
- 23:40Speaker 6: fascists and speeches, that made me think about and I
- 23:46Speaker 6: wonder about y'all's thoughts about part of guys listening to
- 23:48Speaker 6: Mimic man, but everything is going to hit the fan,
- 23:51Speaker 6: and I'm like, Mimic like has not been on screen.
- 23:55Speaker 6: We have not thought about him since season one, like
- 23:57Speaker 6: early on in season one, whenever he's taken out, but
- 24:00Speaker 6: he his like revolutionary thoughts. This manifesto still live on
- 24:03Speaker 6: and they're not even just within just within the rebellion
- 24:07Speaker 6: like the fascists are. Like the lead one of the
- 24:09Speaker 6: lead fascists is listening to this as he sees everything
- 24:13Speaker 6: trembling around him, and I wonder what y'all thought about
- 24:16Speaker 6: like him listening to this like this very like like
- 24:20Speaker 6: we know that they're shaking because we're we're making an impact,
- 24:25Speaker 6: like we're doing the good works. And it's like, what
- 24:27Speaker 6: do you y'all think about seeing this scene play out
- 24:30Speaker 6: and like how it happens.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Oh, I thought it was beautiful. Go ahead, Mela.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I was going to say first, well, first thing I'll
- 24:38Speaker 3: say is that if Nimick had a Patreon, I will
- 24:40Speaker 3: go bro he was dropping if he was droppings every week,
- 24:47Speaker 3: Like I think about m mimic quotes like while I'm
- 24:50Speaker 3: like tying my shoes, it can't take freedom from us.
- 24:53Speaker 3: It comes with us as clearly as it is, you know,
- 24:56Speaker 3: like it's just but like the the fact that part
- 25:00Speaker 3: of Gas was listening to it, part of Gas is
- 25:02Speaker 3: always like part of Gas is an incredibly interesting character,
- 25:06Speaker 3: all the way down to his first appearance where he's like,
- 25:10Speaker 3: we aren't enforcers where like healthcare, we spot little things
- 25:17Speaker 3: that are like little infections within society and we like
- 25:20Speaker 3: smack him down. And so he's always been logistical and
- 25:23Speaker 3: how he pulls off things and like how but also
- 25:27Speaker 3: in terms of like how he views everything and listening
- 25:32Speaker 3: to Tnemic in that moment is like someone that logical
- 25:38Speaker 3: can't live without the concepts of there's a little bit
- 25:42Speaker 3: of hope out there, there's a little bit of like
- 25:46Speaker 3: why the other side of the story is beautiful, And
- 25:50Speaker 3: showing that moment shows like all the moments that you've
- 25:54Speaker 3: seen him have, specifically in season two, there are moments
- 25:57Speaker 3: of regret or when you have like real sniffy, little
- 26:02Speaker 3: disgusting enthusiasm. Yeah, your enthusiasm moment is showing everything about
- 26:11Speaker 3: like he he is a person where he thought he
- 26:14Speaker 3: was actually doing a service, or he could he knew
- 26:18Speaker 3: what they were doing, but he considered what he was
- 26:20Speaker 3: doing was a service of healthcare. And he was also
- 26:24Speaker 3: aware of his sacrifices, unlike Serial Car where he was
- 26:28Speaker 3: just like I am. I am willing to have a
- 26:32Speaker 3: little genocide happen over here if it makes the universe
- 26:35Speaker 3: better in my opinion. And then but because of him
- 26:41Speaker 3: being a logical person, you kind of see the cracks start.
- 26:44Speaker 3: He's kind of see like those things start to fall apart.
- 26:47Speaker 3: And I thought that was like the culmination of that
- 26:51Speaker 3: moment before he shoots himself in the head where he
- 26:53Speaker 3: where It's almost like it was a realization of like
- 26:56Speaker 3: it probably would have went better if I was on
- 26:58Speaker 3: the other side this. Yeah.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but I used to call him star Trek, that
- 27:05Speaker 1: moment of clarity that the Klean Glens would have right
- 27:08Speaker 1: before the proton torpedo blew up their ship, and it's say, damn, man,
- 27:11Speaker 1: I should have just strong the star fleet. You know,
- 27:14Speaker 1: Mama told me I should have been a star fleet
- 27:16Speaker 1: because this life for crime ain't gonna pay out.
- 27:20Speaker 3: No.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I thought he was one of the most beautiful characters
- 27:23Speaker 2: on the show.
- 27:24Speaker 1: And like what you said about Knimick, and because we
- 27:27Speaker 1: hadn't really thought about I mean, I you know, if
- 27:29Speaker 1: you watched the season, obviously it's you know, his manifesto
- 27:31Speaker 1: is so incredible and what he says is so real
- 27:34Speaker 1: to life that it's hard to forget. But as far
- 27:36Speaker 1: as hearing it on the show, we hadn't heard it
- 27:39Speaker 1: since the first season. And for it to come back
- 27:41Speaker 1: at that last moment, like Mello said right before my man,
- 27:44Speaker 1: you know unlives himself, it's just like, damn, you know
- 27:47Speaker 1: this shit is still spreading. You know, you talk to
- 27:49Speaker 1: the other dudes like, yeah, I've heard it too, and
- 27:52Speaker 1: real quick, that is a perfect moment. I do want
- 27:54Speaker 1: to give a shout out to Project Fulcrum, which is
- 27:58Speaker 1: a really dope project that's going on right now where
- 28:01Speaker 1: a group of Star Wars fans have come together and
- 28:05Speaker 1: they're putting out a free newsletter every week that you
- 28:09Speaker 1: can get in your emails. Sign up a get freetogether
- 28:12Speaker 1: dot com and every week you'll get a new email
- 28:17Speaker 1: and you can read all of them because they're basically
- 28:19Speaker 1: limits manifestos where they're sending out information related to every episode,
- 28:23Speaker 1: talking about the episodes and talking about the real life
- 28:26Speaker 1: things that influence these episodes, like and this week with Gorman,
- 28:30Speaker 1: they mentioned the Battle Wounded Knee, they mentioned Palestine.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Of course.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I mean, like I said, there are countless massacres and
- 28:38Speaker 1: violations throughout human history and especially in more recent history
- 28:42Speaker 1: that you can mention. But I really like Project Vocal,
- 28:46Speaker 1: and you can sign up for free at get freetogether
- 28:48Speaker 1: dot com and we'll probably have some more than they're
- 28:51Speaker 1: doing an all star review of this hopefully and have
- 28:54Speaker 1: some more from them. But yeah, I just wanted to
- 28:55Speaker 1: mention them real quick because I really love Mimics manifesto
- 28:59Speaker 1: And like I said, singing in that last moment, seeing it,
- 29:02Speaker 1: you know, hearing it throughout the last you know scene
- 29:06Speaker 1: and just it resonating was like it goes back to
- 29:09Speaker 1: when you see Melchie and Cassie and listening to it
- 29:12Speaker 1: on the beach and just knowing you know that it's
- 29:14Speaker 1: like it's spread, you know, and it's just undeniable, and
- 29:19Speaker 1: that's what's so beautiful about that.
- 29:20Speaker 3: For me, it's the infection self effective.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Yeah, Actually, I know we're gonna we're gonna keep talking
- 29:27Speaker 3: about this dark ass show. But I have one fun
- 29:29Speaker 3: question for everybody here. We do have like so, I
- 29:36Speaker 3: think there's two instances within the show where we may
- 29:38Speaker 3: have seen the Force happen. They were very like blatant
- 29:41Speaker 3: about it in season two with the lady who was
- 29:43Speaker 3: kind of doing the healing and question if that was
- 29:46Speaker 3: real or not. Yeah, But the other one was the
- 29:50Speaker 3: suggestion that Nimick may have been either for sensitive or Jedi,
- 29:54Speaker 3: like at like the end of the day, at the
- 29:56Speaker 3: ability to be a Jedi because of that scene where
- 30:00Speaker 3: they're like flying through the meteorites that media shower as
- 30:03Speaker 3: it's happening and he no longer needs to look at
- 30:05Speaker 3: the console while he got to tell him the directions
- 30:08Speaker 3: and exactly where to go.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 30:11Speaker 3: And he said the number one phrase of both the
- 30:15Speaker 3: series and the movie, which is climb get emotional.
- 30:19Speaker 2: But I'm not that over sign because I'm already thinking
- 30:22Speaker 2: of it.
- 30:23Speaker 3: It's just like the chills are going, you know, nim
- 30:25Speaker 3: It not like not looking looking away from the console
- 30:28Speaker 3: and still directing him and you know him, like, what
- 30:30Speaker 3: are you talking about?
- 30:31Speaker 2: He's like pom Nigga pomb, Like.
- 30:36Speaker 3: My favorite quote from them to climb Niggas climb. But
- 30:42Speaker 3: I don't know, do you do you all believe in
- 30:45Speaker 3: either of those moments was mimic for Sensitive and was
- 30:49Speaker 3: that Lady for Sensitive or mixed match either or or
- 30:53Speaker 3: were they all just circumstances of people being highly skilled
- 30:57Speaker 3: from what we've seen people capable of in the Start universe.
- 31:01Speaker 5: I think for me and I remember you mentioned this
- 31:03Speaker 5: when you talked about season one the first time, about
- 31:05Speaker 5: like how it's such a great show and there's no
- 31:08Speaker 5: Jedi involved, Like I don't care whether or not the
- 31:11Speaker 5: Force was involved or not. Like the Force was such
- 31:14Speaker 5: like an irrelevant part of this show. Like if it happened, cool,
- 31:18Speaker 5: Like that's that's a cute little easter egg for me
- 31:20Speaker 5: to make sure that this is, you know, part of
- 31:22Speaker 5: the Star Wars universe. But like everything else about this
- 31:25Speaker 5: show was just so much more important than like Jedi
- 31:28Speaker 5: and the Force that like it was cool if it happened,
- 31:31Speaker 5: But at the end of the day, I don't really
- 31:32Speaker 5: care because the rest of this show was just like
- 31:34Speaker 5: that good.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Portia.
- 31:37Speaker 6: Well, one thing about me is I always love magic
- 31:40Speaker 6: no matter how it shows up, like I'm with it,
- 31:42Speaker 6: but I think for me and like the force and
- 31:46Speaker 6: when it's in this like intuitive way, when it's less straightforward,
- 31:51Speaker 6: this is a Jedi. This is someone who's like they're
- 31:53Speaker 6: not saying I have forces andtivity so you should listen
- 31:55Speaker 6: to me, Like they're just like, this is like what
- 31:58Speaker 6: I've intuited from the universe, this is what I've been
- 32:00Speaker 6: called to do. This is what's happening, and I'm just
- 32:02Speaker 6: like it's flowing through me. That feels so close to
- 32:07Speaker 6: this like spiritualism that I'm like seeing more and more today,
- 32:11Speaker 6: like it's less so religious based and more so like
- 32:15Speaker 6: being aware of the energies that are like around us,
- 32:18Speaker 6: like environment, like doing moving with that, like in tune
- 32:22Speaker 6: with what works for you and then in lock stuff
- 32:25Speaker 6: with other folks and then just like the channeling get
- 32:28Speaker 6: through your body. So I really do I think they're forcesitive? Yeah,
- 32:32Speaker 6: I think that's what they would call it, Like I
- 32:33Speaker 6: think in this university would call it for sensitivity.
- 32:35Speaker 4: That's what that is. But I think overall it's being.
- 32:39Speaker 6: Aligned with the moment and like what's needed and so
- 32:43Speaker 6: like yeah, for sensativity, sure, because that's what that like.
- 32:47Speaker 6: The force is the like the living like or the yeah,
- 32:51Speaker 6: the living like force throughout the universe. But I think
- 32:54Speaker 6: it's more I really appreciated that the healer, like not
- 33:00Speaker 6: only was she so this is like, this is why
- 33:04Speaker 6: I got in trouble with Ben, and I'm sorry.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Ben. I probably can make it out to you some
- 33:07Speaker 4: kind of way. I will find a way to make
- 33:12Speaker 4: it up to you in the future.
- 33:14Speaker 6: But I had like from the beginning of this season,
- 33:18Speaker 6: like at least by season like episode three, I was like,
- 33:22Speaker 6: because I was Okay, maybe this is because I watched
- 33:25Speaker 6: too many like I've watched soap operas going up like
- 33:27Speaker 6: my in my forend of years, and also like watch
- 33:30Speaker 6: like a lot of romances. But knowing that, knowing what
- 33:34Speaker 6: happens at the end of Rogue one, I was like, okay,
- 33:37Speaker 6: but what about Bis. What's what's Bix's part of this?
- 33:40Speaker 6: And the fact that Bis kept living when she kept
- 33:42Speaker 6: doing things that could have had her unalive. I was like,
- 33:45Speaker 6: there's going to be a child because there's too many reasons,
- 33:49Speaker 6: like they don't keep fixed around and less x y Z.
- 33:52Speaker 4: And then I kept betting confirmation in Confirmation and.
- 33:55Speaker 6: So the Healer saying to Indoor, there's a reason, like
- 33:59Speaker 6: she be your reason that you need to like that's
- 34:02Speaker 6: who you stay with, right, I'm like, this is this
- 34:06Speaker 6: is this is the extra sign I needed that there's
- 34:08Speaker 6: a kid that comes from this and the fact that
- 34:12Speaker 6: when I was right but to that like this is
- 34:14Speaker 6: something like the healer shows up later is in that
- 34:18Speaker 6: scene where Indoor goes to his final mission, Like I
- 34:22Speaker 6: think that is not just like a happenstance of like
- 34:25Speaker 6: she just happened to be the right place in the
- 34:27Speaker 6: right play at the right time or that, Like there's
- 34:31Speaker 6: just like you know, this general like like alignment that
- 34:34Speaker 6: she has with the story. I think that is for
- 34:36Speaker 6: sensitivity because she she knows she's gonna see Indoor again
- 34:38Speaker 6: when she sees him the first time, and she leaves
- 34:41Speaker 6: him with that message, only to see him not with
- 34:44Speaker 6: the person he's supposed to be with, but on a mission.
- 34:47Speaker 1: M hmm yeah for me, mellow with uh Ni make
- 34:55Speaker 1: it didn't really bother me or even you know, do anything.
- 34:57Speaker 1: I was like, cool, you know, that's awesome. This scene
- 34:59Speaker 1: is just made ANDIX amazing.
- 35:01Speaker 2: So whatever. When the healer showed up, that was my
- 35:05Speaker 2: first time.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I think in all of Ander where I was like,
- 35:08Speaker 1: I don't know about this shit, you know, because I'm
- 35:11Speaker 1: not for that. There's a chosen one and you know
- 35:14Speaker 1: this man is the only man who can do it.
- 35:16Speaker 1: That type of storyline is something that I feel tired
- 35:19Speaker 1: and done way too much in Star Wars. But then
- 35:23Speaker 1: again reading interviews with Gil Roy and other people who
- 35:26Speaker 1: are behind the scenes, they were talk about how it's
- 35:30Speaker 1: more about and or, and this is something that has
- 35:32Speaker 1: been throughout you know, the whole show is that he's
- 35:35Speaker 1: constantly running away. He's like the John snow at this
- 35:38Speaker 1: universe where he's constantly that, No, I don't want to
- 35:40Speaker 1: be the chosen one.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I'm not this.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I'm trying to get out of here. I've done enough,
- 35:45Speaker 1: I've put my life on the line.
- 35:46Speaker 3: I need to be to, you know, go away with
- 35:48Speaker 3: Biggs and all this type of stuff. And so it
- 35:52Speaker 3: didn't bother me much after that.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I've kind of like with oh, it's just and like
- 35:57Speaker 1: you said, Porsche, and everyone said, it's part of the universe,
- 36:00Speaker 1: and that's the thing. It's like the Force is part
- 36:02Speaker 1: of the universe, and like Portia said it, spirituality is
- 36:07Speaker 1: expressed and shown in different ways, and we in this
- 36:10Speaker 1: modern age where people are picking and choosing and finding,
- 36:12Speaker 1: you know, different bits of things to help them through today,
- 36:16Speaker 1: and so in this universe, I feel like the same way,
- 36:18Speaker 1: it would just be one of those things that's in
- 36:20Speaker 1: the background. And I also love in Star Wars whenever
- 36:25Speaker 1: the Force is shown to not just be a Jedi
- 36:28Speaker 1: and Sifty, because I think that's so corny that only
- 36:31Speaker 1: these two groups of people, throughout the billions trillions of
- 36:35Speaker 1: people in the galaxy, you know, are the only Force users.
- 36:39Speaker 2: And that's why I love whenever in Star Wars, like
- 36:41Speaker 2: in Rebels and.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Clone Wars everything else, we've seen all the expanded stuff
- 36:46Speaker 1: where it's a lot more than just they.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Could be like the Night which is they got it.
- 36:51Speaker 3: There's like a random animal, yeah, a space yes, like
- 36:56Speaker 3: that discovered the hyperdrives like.
- 37:01Speaker 6: That as a story element that this sets up what
- 37:04Speaker 6: we see in Rogue one, Like it's like we see
- 37:07Speaker 6: that they're not they're not none of them mare Jedi,
- 37:09Speaker 6: but we have Force aligned people that like are walking
- 37:12Speaker 6: around in Rogue one dodging laser fire. Right, So I
- 37:18Speaker 6: think as a prequel, like setting the scene, I think
- 37:23Speaker 6: it did it was like a story element thing as
- 37:24Speaker 6: well that I'm like, I note, like this is we're
- 37:27Speaker 6: getting lay up into what we see in Rogue one
- 37:30Speaker 6: in this as well.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Mm hmm, yeah, it's It's probably the the the most
- 37:36Speaker 3: specific and the most fun conversation in Star Wars for
- 37:39Speaker 3: me personally, of like, do do you think that the force,
- 37:46Speaker 3: like is it working for some of these characters? Doesn't
- 37:49Speaker 3: matter because even going into like Rogue one, like you
- 37:51Speaker 3: were saying what you have like Donnian's character as Donnie
- 37:55Speaker 3: in plays like I don't know maybe the third or
- 37:56Speaker 3: fourth blind man he's played in this group, but two
- 37:59Speaker 3: more after that, I'm seeing that John wickspin off. But
- 38:04Speaker 3: it's but it's one of those things where like he
- 38:09Speaker 3: could also be good enough for it to not matter.
- 38:12Speaker 3: But the thing that mattered the most about him was
- 38:16Speaker 3: his death because of what he did to his friend
- 38:20Speaker 3: immediately after he died, where his friend was just like
- 38:24Speaker 3: the entire time, he's like, the forces just is the
- 38:26Speaker 3: thing that he's into. I am just I am real
- 38:29Speaker 3: supportive of my girlfriend. But the minute that Donnian died,
- 38:35Speaker 3: he was just like he was saying, like I'm on
- 38:37Speaker 3: the force and the forces with me, repeatedly, just because
- 38:40Speaker 3: he's just like, this is going to push me long enough,
- 38:43Speaker 3: and if I believe in it, maybe I'm lucky enough
- 38:45Speaker 3: to see him again.
- 38:47Speaker 2: And I think.
- 38:50Speaker 3: With characters like Dix, she was in the same place
- 38:53Speaker 3: where it's just like I need something and like and
- 38:56Speaker 3: like even if like I like to think that we're special,
- 39:00Speaker 3: to think that there's something special about us and every
- 39:03Speaker 3: now and then, maybe those little miracles do happen, maybe
- 39:06Speaker 3: those little and like it because like Bix is also
- 39:08Speaker 3: a character where I think or that would be like
- 39:13Speaker 3: one of my both my my lows and my high
- 39:16Speaker 3: is what it says character as good as it is
- 39:18Speaker 3: where I think that that character is incredibly skilled and
- 39:22Speaker 3: incredibly capable, and she was before we ever met her
- 39:25Speaker 3: in the first episode. But the way that she's used
- 39:29Speaker 3: is that she is a character who is regularly victimized
- 39:33Speaker 3: and we're seeing her strength to continue. Uh, it is
- 39:37Speaker 3: not my place to say how a victim in that
- 39:39Speaker 3: regard is portrayed either, because what she's doing is incredibly powerful,
- 39:44Speaker 3: It is incredibly strong, and like it is if someone
- 39:48Speaker 3: like that that you're going to need to get to
- 39:50Speaker 3: the end where it's just like if anyone wants to
- 39:53Speaker 3: complain about the conditions, meet Bicks. She's still here. She like,
- 39:59Speaker 3: she didn't give up, she didn't get the torture, she
- 40:01Speaker 3: didn't give up to the worst torture as possible within
- 40:03Speaker 3: the Star Wars universe. And she is still like around
- 40:06Speaker 3: the kicking and making major decisions that will decide the
- 40:09Speaker 3: fad of everybody in this universe. And it is it
- 40:13Speaker 3: the force that why she did it, because of her
- 40:17Speaker 3: belief in it or anything like that. And I think
- 40:19Speaker 3: that's where I also agree with Joel, where it's like
- 40:22Speaker 3: it kind of doesn't matter. It's the fact that it
- 40:25Speaker 3: gave her something to do it. And uh yeah, I
- 40:29Speaker 3: think I think we all feel that too, even when
- 40:30Speaker 3: we pass away, and just like like I know my
- 40:34Speaker 3: loved one is like watching over me in that moment.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Doesn't matter if it's true is what you need to
- 40:39Speaker 3: get through the next thing.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Well, all right, since we are here, let's talk about
- 40:45Speaker 2: the characters.
- 40:46Speaker 1: And you know, since we're talking about Bicks because we
- 40:49Speaker 1: can get to Cassie and of course, but how did
- 40:52Speaker 1: y'all feel about Bicks in season two? Because that was
- 40:55Speaker 1: for me, that was another one of my I don't
- 40:58Speaker 1: know moments, and it was when Biggs got her revenge
- 41:02Speaker 1: on the doctor and blew him up and all that.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Because as someone who is like personally dealing.
- 41:08Speaker 1: With a lot of trauma right now, I wish I
- 41:10Speaker 1: could blow up certain people, but that's just not how
- 41:13Speaker 1: real life works in most cases. And because of that,
- 41:17Speaker 1: I felt like that was kind of a kind of
- 41:19Speaker 1: easy way out for her, even though seeing the rest
- 41:23Speaker 1: of the season she still is suffering and dealing with
- 41:25Speaker 1: all the trauma. It's just, you know, it was that
- 41:28Speaker 1: one moment to get back for her. But how did
- 41:30Speaker 1: you feel about Bigs throughout season two?
- 41:33Speaker 5: When I feel like if the her getting her revenge,
- 41:36Speaker 5: I didn't necessarily have a problem with.
- 41:38Speaker 3: I think what I had a problem with was we.
- 41:40Speaker 5: Didn't really explore the fact that had on her afterwards, Like, yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 5: that was the choice that she made. Cool, but I
- 41:47Speaker 5: wanted to see, like how is she dealing with Like
- 41:50Speaker 5: did that actually give her the piece that she needed?
- 41:52Speaker 5: Like did she still struggle but she still having nightmares?
- 41:55Speaker 5: I think like it was just so swept under the
- 41:57Speaker 5: rug of like, oh, that was it, that was her
- 41:59Speaker 5: like band aid solution.
- 42:00Speaker 3: She's good. She's good now.
- 42:01Speaker 5: She's here for Cassian and just like rooting him on,
- 42:04Speaker 5: while I wanted to see more of her like dealing
- 42:07Speaker 5: with the repercussions of like, Okay, I killed that person,
- 42:09Speaker 5: I killed my torture, Like how do I actually feel
- 42:12Speaker 5: about that? Like is this something that I regret? Is
- 42:15Speaker 5: this something that like has brought me peace and that
- 42:17Speaker 5: I'm proud of? And I just felt like we didn't
- 42:19Speaker 5: really get to see a lot of that because the
- 42:20Speaker 5: rest of the season was focused on her like being
- 42:23Speaker 5: that support for and or and like and ultimately deciding
- 42:26Speaker 5: that like she needs to sacrifice the relationships so that
- 42:28Speaker 5: like he can be good.
- 42:29Speaker 3: But I just wanted to see more of like her
- 42:31Speaker 3: actual story and fold we're sure mellow.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Agreed, like I rest again that's how I was able.
- 42:38Speaker 6: I'm like, there's reasons why they're keeping her around besides
- 42:41Speaker 6: this plot of her like having like revenge on her
- 42:46Speaker 6: a torturer. But I just think there's so much about her,
- 42:51Speaker 6: like even from season one, that is so dependent on
- 42:56Speaker 6: her relationship with Cassian that I, like, I just don't
- 43:01Speaker 6: feel like I have a full flashed understanding of her
- 43:04Speaker 6: as a person like I do, and like they were
- 43:08Speaker 6: able to do as she's out with Clay in one
- 43:09Speaker 6: episode for me, which they in Boox is way more
- 43:13Speaker 6: like episodes where I get parts of her personality and
- 43:15Speaker 6: I still don't really fully know, like who she is
- 43:19Speaker 6: beside her rebel identity and like partially like who she
- 43:24Speaker 6: had to be whenever she was holding things down.
- 43:28Speaker 4: I forget what the name of their planet is or
- 43:31Speaker 4: they pharics, So.
- 43:35Speaker 6: I think that, like yeah, so I I, yeah, I
- 43:38Speaker 6: feel like there's so much of her and then maybe
- 43:39Speaker 6: that's who she is, like maybe she has because of
- 43:42Speaker 6: everything going on. She this is the personality she's putting
- 43:45Speaker 6: forward and that's what you're gonna get, and you're not
- 43:47Speaker 6: gonna be able to read her interior as much. But
- 43:49Speaker 6: I would have liked to, Like we do get to
- 43:51Speaker 6: see other characters' interior moments, and I would have wanted
- 43:54Speaker 6: to see that more than just her being traumatized and
- 43:56Speaker 6: having to work through her trauma.
- 43:58Speaker 5: And yeah, he had a whole addiction and it was
- 44:01Speaker 5: like what happened, like he he got addicted to hit
- 44:05Speaker 5: the Drops.
- 44:06Speaker 6: And she spoke to Luton one time and all of
- 44:08Speaker 6: a sudden, you know, we don't hear any more about it.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Okay, you got a gaping for his rehab, like what
- 44:14Speaker 3: what happened? Like I am in the camp of like
- 44:18Speaker 3: you know, if you kill one not see, maybe you
- 44:20Speaker 3: get over your addictions.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Like if I could have blown up certain people in
- 44:25Speaker 2: my time, I would have felt a lot better.
- 44:27Speaker 6: After you're saying, you're like self medicating because of this
- 44:31Speaker 6: person being alive since they're gone, Like I don't need this.
- 44:33Speaker 4: I don't need this anymore.
- 44:34Speaker 3: It's not even about them being gone, it's about at
- 44:36Speaker 3: the blowing them up. That's yes, sels better afterwards you
- 44:47Speaker 3: live off that high for the rest of your life. Yeah,
- 44:49Speaker 3: you know, I'm good, So I don't yet.
- 44:53Speaker 2: I do kind of feel you, damn Mello.
- 44:55Speaker 3: But there is, Like I agree with both Joel and Porsche,
- 45:00Speaker 3: there is. Uh, there's so much left on the table
- 45:02Speaker 3: about the character. The thing that's also very frustrating, and
- 45:06Speaker 3: the thing I don't like about Star Wars is that
- 45:09Speaker 3: they tend to do that on purpose. They usually leave
- 45:13Speaker 3: tons of stories, like you know that there's probably fifty
- 45:16Speaker 3: Cassian and Dix missions that we have not seen.
- 45:21Speaker 4: In a comic book. They're going to make money for it.
- 45:23Speaker 3: Yeah, they'll pop up as a cameo in a video
- 45:26Speaker 3: game and like it's you know what, I'm gonna lose
- 45:28Speaker 3: my ship when I see them. But at the same
- 45:30Speaker 3: time I.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Want to do you know, I'm a bid those comics,
- 45:34Speaker 2: you know, like you got me, like you can.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Like can we just like talk about the drug addiction
- 45:41Speaker 3: but show them on two speeders just focused people up,
- 45:44Speaker 3: you know. But and that's me just kind of towards
- 45:48Speaker 3: the action side. But that also had to remind myself
- 45:53Speaker 3: as to like and or teaching the and or the
- 45:55Speaker 3: series not the character, and it teaches you how to
- 45:58Speaker 3: watch it as your wife watching it where it's just
- 46:01Speaker 3: like you you're hearing about the rebels getting bigger, and
- 46:06Speaker 3: you're seeing year the year where it's just like, oh,
- 46:08Speaker 3: y'all were a full army now, Like like that planet
- 46:12Speaker 3: that just had like a group of leftists shooting each
- 46:15Speaker 3: other and not knowing what to do is a full
- 46:18Speaker 3: military space now, and you don't see that. You're seeing
- 46:22Speaker 3: the story of like people like eat Away at their
- 46:25Speaker 3: personalities and who they are as people as they're trying
- 46:28Speaker 3: to figure it out, and to the point where we
- 46:30Speaker 3: get an episode called who are You And What does
- 46:35Speaker 3: that mean? In the process. But the where we land
- 46:38Speaker 3: with Bix on that is is one of those things
- 46:42Speaker 3: where it's like, this is not me giving a show
- 46:43Speaker 3: a past, this is me figuring out my feelings on
- 46:46Speaker 3: it because it's, like I said earlier, she is one
- 46:50Speaker 3: hundred percent being victimized repeatedly, and in the process of
- 46:54Speaker 3: that happening. We also saw her pushback on Cassie in
- 47:00Speaker 3: within the first few episodes of like Get Away from Me.
- 47:03Speaker 3: I'm enjoying a good life, like I got my plain,
- 47:07Speaker 3: simple boyfriend who is like dating way up right now,
- 47:13Speaker 3: but maybe I just want It's like The Ocean's eleven,
- 47:19Speaker 3: one of the best lines from Ocean eleven where it's
- 47:21Speaker 3: just like, like does he make you laugh? And Joy
- 47:26Speaker 3: Roberts response is like he doesn't make me cry. And
- 47:31Speaker 3: that's kind of where bix has been. She's been in
- 47:32Speaker 3: a place where she's just like, I just want some
- 47:34Speaker 3: stability and normality in my life. I think we probably
- 47:39Speaker 3: would have gotten more as to like Dixon's story was
- 47:42Speaker 3: dope if we would have known where she was from,
- 47:45Speaker 3: because she's the one other person who has the exact
- 47:47Speaker 3: same accident as Cassian and we don't know their back history.
- 47:52Speaker 3: In relation to that, because Cassie and we saw where
- 47:55Speaker 3: he came from, and it's just like, how did anyone
- 47:57Speaker 3: else make it off of that place? And why is
- 48:02Speaker 3: she the way that she is? What is the life
- 48:04Speaker 3: that she led to led to this point? But she does.
- 48:07Speaker 3: But I do think it is around that space of
- 48:09Speaker 3: just like she's going to fight with her ability to
- 48:13Speaker 3: live in stability, and you need people like that as
- 48:18Speaker 3: well within a revolution. I'm sure she was incredibly necessary,
- 48:22Speaker 3: but that is also me saying that filling in the blanks,
- 48:25Speaker 3: and I wish those blanks weren't blanks.
- 48:29Speaker 6: M I just want to add that if she's because
- 48:33Speaker 6: some of the connotation is that she winged herself off
- 48:37Speaker 6: because she found herself pregnant possibly, And I don't like
- 48:40Speaker 6: that connotation because like you still can have to war
- 48:42Speaker 6: with yourself with that addiction in like learning, So I
- 48:45Speaker 6: don't like that being the thing.
- 48:47Speaker 4: That sits there on the table. And then also I think.
- 48:53Speaker 6: Talking about her like like looking for stability or like
- 48:56Speaker 6: the like the neglect and torment she's faid, being like
- 49:01Speaker 6: tortured by the empire. I think she's also in the rebellion.
- 49:07Speaker 6: There's so much chaos within a rebellion that it's also
- 49:09Speaker 6: like hitting her psyche as well, so like it. She
- 49:12Speaker 6: may not be thinking about it like unconsciously, but there's
- 49:16Speaker 6: levels of neglect for that she's replicating by being like,
- 49:19Speaker 6: I have to sacrifice this relationship for the rebellion, after
- 49:23Speaker 6: sacrifice these different things of myself for the rebellion, and
- 49:27Speaker 6: that's it's done in understanding what she needs to do
- 49:32Speaker 6: as a rebel, but it's also like traumatic to her
- 49:35Speaker 6: as a person, even though it's for a better cause.
- 49:37Speaker 6: So she's getting trauma from all sides. There's no like
- 49:42Speaker 6: safe road for her, it seems, besides going to the
- 49:44Speaker 6: farm and living out her life in a way.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I agree with what everyone said about Bigs,
- 49:51Speaker 1: Like she was definitely one of my favorite characters throughout
- 49:53Speaker 1: this show. And I also love that she was already
- 49:57Speaker 1: involved even before Cassine. You know, she was already working
- 50:00Speaker 1: with Lutheran, already slinging shot on the side, doing what
- 50:03Speaker 1: she had to do.
- 50:04Speaker 2: So she was already about that life and I feel
- 50:07Speaker 2: like the world.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Pushed her more into it where it just like she
- 50:13Speaker 1: accepted even before Cassie and that there is no going back.
- 50:16Speaker 1: You know, this is the world we live in now.
- 50:18Speaker 1: We are in this war, whether we want or to
- 50:20Speaker 1: or not. Like Marva dies and tells her fight the Empire,
- 50:24Speaker 1: and you know, I think she took that the heart
- 50:26Speaker 1: as well as already having been tortured by the Empire,
- 50:29Speaker 1: et cetera, where she's just like, nah, you know, there
- 50:31Speaker 1: is no going back, there is no returning. And then
- 50:34Speaker 1: you know, Brazos just killed and that little bit of
- 50:36Speaker 1: life she had left was gone.
- 50:38Speaker 2: So it just becomes where she had to do what
- 50:40Speaker 2: she had to do.
- 50:42Speaker 1: And yeah, I would have loved to see more, but
- 50:45Speaker 1: I think that's just you know, it's just one of
- 50:47Speaker 1: the limitations of us only having these two seasons. And
- 50:51Speaker 1: it's one of the great things of it only being
- 50:53Speaker 1: two seasons where we don't get a lot of filler,
- 50:55Speaker 1: but then it's also one of the limitations of it.
- 50:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it's tough. H I will say in regards to
- 51:03Speaker 3: personal favorite character Gerera, Uh, every team he was in,
- 51:10Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, this is this is incredible and
- 51:12Speaker 3: it's so cruel like it's actually it's actually pointing out
- 51:16Speaker 3: probably the only time I'm sure Disney probably stepped in
- 51:20Speaker 3: anytime Sagerera's name was written in this cript because of
- 51:25Speaker 3: what it says, like we so the thing that they're
- 51:28Speaker 3: portraying is that there's two sides of the coin. Right,
- 51:31Speaker 3: there's if you're a rebel, you're either with the man
- 51:35Speaker 3: Mathmacrew with Cassie and and the rest of them, or
- 51:39Speaker 3: you going full him with Sagerera and you're eating rat. Well,
- 51:46Speaker 3: Saul is not necessarily eating soul kind of eating. He's
- 51:50Speaker 3: eating all right, but you're also eating civilians.
- 51:55Speaker 1: It's a metaphorical you know, yeah, you might eat good,
- 51:59Speaker 1: but you are meta forwardly eating mad rats.
- 52:01Speaker 3: I mean, I hope the metaphor it's a billion wow.
- 52:05Speaker 3: It's like it's one of those things where when we
- 52:09Speaker 3: get down to it and we're talking about, like we
- 52:11Speaker 3: got to take it to the Empire. So there, I
- 52:14Speaker 3: do want to break up a separate show that is
- 52:16Speaker 3: immediately connected to this that they made a scene within
- 52:19Speaker 3: Star Wars Rebels to promote Rogue one, and it was
- 52:23Speaker 3: a scene that should have been It was originally supposed
- 52:26Speaker 3: to be in Rogue one, and it probably would have
- 52:29Speaker 3: been one of the best scenes that they ever would
- 52:32Speaker 3: have had within a live action Star Wars And it
- 52:35Speaker 3: was definitely in my personal favorite scene within Rebels, and
- 52:41Speaker 3: that is they finally have on a holocron. Sagerera and
- 52:46Speaker 3: my Mathma talk to each other, and my Mathma is
- 52:50Speaker 3: just like, you're a monster. You are terrorizing people. You're
- 52:55Speaker 3: doing like explicit tortures, You're killing innocent people in the
- 53:00Speaker 3: process of killing your targets. And so I was like,
- 53:02Speaker 3: but I do kill my targets unlike you, Like I
- 53:06Speaker 3: get them all, like I wipe them out. And one
- 53:10Speaker 3: thing he brings up in the conversation as well is
- 53:13Speaker 3: that like basically walk on the battlefield and then look
- 53:18Speaker 3: at the bodies on the ground and ask how many
- 53:21Speaker 3: of them are sure happy that they fought fair like
- 53:25Speaker 3: the rules, Like they're not playing by the rules and
- 53:28Speaker 3: why should we? And like, and I always remember that
- 53:32Speaker 3: Rebels scene because I was like, fuck, am I a
- 53:34Speaker 3: Sagarel dude, and like that That's a real difficult conversation
- 53:39Speaker 3: about that scenario. That's a real different difficult because Ma
- 53:42Speaker 3: Mathma is a person where she's like, we're gonna go in,
- 53:46Speaker 3: We're gonna only kill specific targets. I'm gonna risk all
- 53:49Speaker 3: of your lives, and I'm gonna sit here in my
- 53:53Speaker 3: slightly less proper dress than I had last week and
- 53:56Speaker 3: tell you this is the right thing to do. And
- 54:00Speaker 3: you you have Sargerera, and it's just like, we're gonna
- 54:03Speaker 3: kills as many of these motherfuckers as possible, and it's
- 54:06Speaker 3: going to change the scale of the war immediately. It's
- 54:10Speaker 3: gonna it's gonna change everything. I'm gonna lose some of
- 54:13Speaker 3: like some of them, some of them over there, some
- 54:15Speaker 3: of you. But in the process, that's what you signed
- 54:19Speaker 3: up for. He's like, you get, but the rebels, the
- 54:22Speaker 3: rest of the rebels, and Ma Mathma also signed up
- 54:25Speaker 3: for that. But she's going about real soft and real slow,
- 54:28Speaker 3: and that's how you lose a war. And it's it's
- 54:33Speaker 3: such a it's an incredible conversation about the perspective of
- 54:37Speaker 3: what you do when you consider yourself quote unquote a rebel,
- 54:41Speaker 3: and uh, the way that they did not shy away
- 54:43Speaker 3: from it with Sagerera, I think it was like some
- 54:45Speaker 3: of the best stuff and I wish there was more, but.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, real quick on saw I saw someone comparing
- 54:52Speaker 1: him and I feel like there's a lot of this
- 54:55Speaker 1: and I've definitely had this thought before, especially when you
- 54:57Speaker 1: see him in Rogue one that he is bas the
- 55:00Speaker 1: Rebels version of Darth Vader, where he's you know, more
- 55:03Speaker 1: manned in machine, willing to do whatever it takes, and
- 55:07Speaker 1: not about that life, you know, not about agreeing with
- 55:09Speaker 1: everybody else like he you know, Darth Vader calls the
- 55:12Speaker 1: Senate and the whole everything just a bunch of assholes,
- 55:14Speaker 1: and you know, screams on the rest of the Empire,
- 55:17Speaker 1: chokes people out with no choice and keeps it moving.
- 55:21Speaker 2: And Saw I thought.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Even you know, even in his last line in this
- 55:26Speaker 1: season was just the perfection when he's like, you know,
- 55:29Speaker 1: I wish you could fight as well as you lie
- 55:32Speaker 1: because so real, and even in his scenes with Will
- 55:37Speaker 1: mahn Man forst Whitaker, just you know, absolutely rule because
- 55:41Speaker 1: my man's sitting there talking about sniffing gas butt naked,
- 55:45Speaker 1: you know, in the fields. He's just going on like
- 55:49Speaker 1: this is the greatest dam of its life.
- 55:50Speaker 3: But also he makes one hundred correct point where he's
- 55:55Speaker 3: just like y'all don't know what it's like in the dirt,
- 55:57Speaker 3: like like I've lived here my whole life. Yeah, I've
- 56:00Speaker 3: been doing this my whole life, this gas and me family,
- 56:04Speaker 3: like this, don't I can't trust you. You had a
- 56:07Speaker 3: fancy dinner two weeks ago with these motherfuckers that I'm shooting.
- 56:10Speaker 2: M hm.
- 56:11Speaker 3: He's just like, there's a part of you that you
- 56:13Speaker 3: sacrifice in the process, but I'm the real I'm the
- 56:16Speaker 3: real thing, and like I'm the thing that you have
- 56:19Speaker 3: inside of you that you're afraid of. And like the
- 56:23Speaker 3: way they land with saul On in Rogue one, where
- 56:29Speaker 3: it's like he's sacrifices so many pieces of himself that
- 56:32Speaker 3: it's literally sharing physical or he's got like two metal feet,
- 56:36Speaker 3: he's breathing like Darth Vader, who also lost tons of
- 56:38Speaker 3: pieces of himself, So that I don't I don't know
- 56:42Speaker 3: if it really fits kind of analogy in regards it's
- 56:44Speaker 3: it's like one of those things and it's like for me.
- 56:47Speaker 1: Another one that I was noticed in this season is
- 56:49Speaker 1: trying to like how Cyril and mon Mathma are both
- 56:52Speaker 1: kind of not exactly the sides of the same coin,
- 56:55Speaker 1: but they both had that same thing where it's like
- 56:57Speaker 1: they think that they can commit genocide and it'll be
- 57:00Speaker 1: cool the next day, you know, but that's just not
- 57:03Speaker 1: what it is. And when there when Cyril especially is
- 57:07Speaker 1: confronting with the reality, how did y'all feel about you know,
- 57:11Speaker 1: Cyril's last moments on the planet on I can't say
- 57:15Speaker 1: on Earth, but.
- 57:20Speaker 3: Because of what I said about Saw and where I
- 57:24Speaker 3: discovered where I was leaning towards kind of thing, the
- 57:26Speaker 3: fuck Like it's one of those things where like I'm
- 57:31Speaker 3: I'm looking I'm literally looking at a screen across from
- 57:34Speaker 3: you right now. Of like my YouTube was filled with
- 57:36Speaker 3: video essays and people being like, maybe we were wrong
- 57:38Speaker 3: about Cyril, And I'm like, when you pick up make
- 57:44Speaker 3: a new essay exactly, it's like, I'm not going to
- 57:48Speaker 3: give a fuck about the guy out the whip. You
- 57:50Speaker 3: should have never picked up the whip, Like it is
- 57:56Speaker 3: a cautionary tale about someone seeking purpose with like their
- 58:00Speaker 3: own little sniveling, little corner that they live in the
- 58:04Speaker 3: world and everything like that. But at the same time,
- 58:06Speaker 3: it's like I don't feel sorry for him, but he
- 58:09Speaker 3: had plenty of access to to to change this, and
- 58:14Speaker 3: you know, more than once he turned a blind eye.
- 58:17Speaker 3: And how dumb are you where it's like the day
- 58:19Speaker 3: of the genocide and like are we doing the genocide?
- 58:25Speaker 3: You know, Like it's yeah, like so I had I
- 58:31Speaker 3: had no sympathy for him or for Dedra. I was like,
- 58:34Speaker 3: you know, like basically like roundup applugs. Both of them
- 58:39Speaker 3: went down.
- 58:40Speaker 2: But yeah, I had no sympathy for either of him.
- 58:43Speaker 1: I thought Cyril was definitely interesting, and it was like
- 58:47Speaker 1: Ceral just reminds me of too many people, I know,
- 58:49Speaker 1: because it's like, you know, I've seen a lot of
- 58:52Speaker 1: people spacing the last few years, people who I thought
- 58:54Speaker 1: were rational on saying, you know, fall under this way.
- 58:57Speaker 3: Of foolishness and just I'm like, I'll do it. I
- 59:00Speaker 3: didn't know, you know, you're not as saying as I
- 59:02Speaker 3: thought you were. And it's one of those things like
- 59:05Speaker 3: you said with Cyah, like I also don't have sympathy
- 59:07Speaker 3: for these people because I'm also like a grown ass
- 59:09Speaker 3: man and you over here drinking the school laid up,
- 59:12Speaker 3: like for real, you know, you ain't got sense enough
- 59:15Speaker 3: to go to a library or some shit. You just
- 59:17Speaker 3: don't take your you know, news off of Fox. I
- 59:20Speaker 3: can't help you after that, you know, on the right podcast,
- 59:28Speaker 3: I'm mad at their video. It's like, shit, I'm about
- 59:30Speaker 3: to make a video about No, you are not wrong
- 59:32Speaker 3: about Cyril.
- 59:33Speaker 2: My man deserved what he got.
- 59:35Speaker 1: I thought, Now you want to talk about a Plaud
- 59:37Speaker 1: and I fucking rolled when that nigga was.
- 59:40Speaker 2: Like, after all of this, who are you? You know,
- 59:44Speaker 2: that was like that mad Men moment, like Bro, I
- 59:46Speaker 2: don't think about.
- 59:47Speaker 6: You at all, or Sir Sharla whenever, whenever it was
- 59:54Speaker 6: it Bucky said something to him and he was like,
- 59:56Speaker 6: oh no, it was Hawkeye and he was like, excuse.
- 59:58Speaker 3: Me, Yeah, I don't care.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: I don't care. I don't care. Fun out of my.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Way through moving on. Yeah, So no, I no real
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: sympathy for Cyril. I feel, like I said, I thought
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: that was hilarious. That that was just you know, like
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I say, his moment of real, you know, moment of
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: clarity moment where it's like, damn, bro, I should have
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: joined the rebellion.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: You know, ship would have worked out better.
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: I was just looking for a family. That's all Cyril
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: was looking for with a family, and it's like you
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: could have found it somewhere else other than not to Bro.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Well.
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: There was a moment too where I thought like they
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: were going to try to like redeem Cyril, like he
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: was I'm going to be a rebel. I'm going to
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: join the Like it's too late, we vote, we don't
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: want you in this. I was like, I know he's
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: not about to join the.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: Rebellion because which I'm so happy you vote because they do.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: They did that in Rebels, and for me, I thought
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: it was the stupidest thing. They took up a whole
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: member of the team, someone who like I don't know
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: if you have seen Rebels or anything, like, I don't
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: bet you have. What was the big purple dude? Yeah,
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: that's in like the Mandalorian and c g uh. They
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: had a whole ass white man genocide people. And then
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: eventually he joins the team and they suggest that they're
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: like gay lovers, and he like brought yeah porch space, Yeah,
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: right place. And it's one of those like like I
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: don't know, maybe George looks is right. Maybe he did
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: sell the franchise or the Slave Traders.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: It has a lot of good stuff too. Come on, man,
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: you know that's not for the maybe out with the
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: bath Water Man that bath Water.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: No.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: So I was to have about that because like y'all
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: episode I'm like, yeah, I'm like Cyril's you know, he's
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: he's getting a change of heart right here.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: You know, he's looking to get on a new date.
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: But no, no, I probably shouldn't say this for professional reasons,
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: but I think that it is far too aligned with
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: this like narrative that we should be thoughtful about the
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: people who just don't know and they just need the
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: right information or the right person to talk to them
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: in order for them to move towards the place where
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: we all care more about humanity, and they just see
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: the light and the fact that he bought into.
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: Something that his mother.
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: Had like like had driven into him and like had reinforced,
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: and he was just looking for his own way in
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: a very confusing and complex system. Like you know, we
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: all make mistakes, we all you know, have problems, and
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: even if we're presented with information that's contradictory, sometimes we
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: just you know, don't go where we should. And that's
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: what we should consider with serial story. And that's what
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: I'm I'm sure those essays probably like catch on.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: And I hate that narrative. I hate the idea that
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: like it takes.
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: You seeing someone die or like be brutalized for you
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: to finally be like, aha, the light.
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: I knew it was bad, but my golly, that bad.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: I had no idea.
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: I was saying, lie to the whole time. Golly gee, golly, bulletkers.
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: I had no idea. It's not like all these people
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: had been saying it the whole time and I just
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: decided to not.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: Listen to them. Oh my gosh, I don't even know.
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: How can I make it up to you? I I
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: have no patience for that.
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: And so I was so like, similar to y'all, was
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: glad to see him go. Not even glad because I
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: don't I don't care about this man.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: Yeah, like it was just like.
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: Okay at least and.
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: Or took out his op like you know, and it's
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: like Cardi d Line, It's like you said, you with
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: my op.
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: I don't know how to look you up. Like, I
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: have no idea who this person.
- 1:04:08Speaker 7: Is, but you know, it could be.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: It could be the smartest thing that Tony Gilroy does.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: Is because it and to h Yes and Portia in
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: a more aggressive way, because I already worked with Disney.
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: I'm going to Japan though it was. It's a white
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: fantasy to believe that everybody could be redeemed. So why
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: we get people complaining about like how come you killed
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: Kylo Rere and blah blah blah blah, or or different
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: things like that, or like he should have been redeemed sooner,
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: where it's like the I think the better stories of
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Ryan Johnson was leaning towards which is like, no, he's
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: just irredeemable. He's just a bad person. Sometimes people are
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: just bad people. And the fact that, like Serial Karn,
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: I thought that what his life was doing was important,
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: had a meaning, was special, and everything ends with a
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: warm wan wan his final moments, it's exactly what he deserves.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: It was like over and over again in that episode
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: for him, like you know, he wasn't on deadra. He
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: goes out see people getting slaughtered, you know, and then
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: finally I have no idea who you are and then
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: ma'am you know, the final the fates. It added to
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: the fact that, like Serial Karn for the second season
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: is comedy relief, like at every moment, like even in
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: the moments where he's doing shitty things and he's like
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: working to Gorman and everything like that, it's him being like,
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: they think I'm a special boy. And he got addicted
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: also to being special boy because he needs to always
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: be somebody's special boy. I've never seen someone well, I mean,
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: like it makes sense for someone to equally be a
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: mom guy and a wife guy and can't figure out
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: the difference between the two. So there's a thing in there.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: And like the fact that he was like, oh, I
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: have a new Gorman girlfriend. Are you gonna kill her too? Though?
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: But I just recognized you as a human because she
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: thought I was a special boy. And there's nothing, there's
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: nothing redeemable about that.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Can we talk about the moment it's not like a
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: battle Repperer now special boy.
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: Can we talk about when he had a moment of
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: being a mentor to someone, like he thought he was
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: really teaching somebody, when he was like, well I was
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: able to work my way up went by simply, guy, do.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: You would never never know?
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: You never know what you can do with a simple
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: little search, you know. I was like, this man really thought,
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: really thinks that he's really done something.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: It's beautiful. It's like the opposite end, Like you're watching
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: from the perspective of the opposite end of what was
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: it office space when like they're showing the cubicles and
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: the dude the glasses and the coffee mug just taking
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: a sip, and like he clearly thinks that his environment
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: is beautiful. The place of order that he controls and
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: everything like that, and he's like, this is great, right,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: and it's it's such a good joke because it is
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: how all of the members of the Empire see everything.
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: They they're just like everything is so organized now that
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: I like started to crush any form of care, individuality
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: and empathy and everything. Like now we're all good because
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: everybody is going to look just like me. They're going
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: to eat everything with mayonnaise instead of hot sauce. Is great.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: This is.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: Like all seasoning has been banned. We worked so hard
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: for this and like and which is why everyone I know,
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: I talked about it the last podcast, which is like
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: why everybody in the Empire kind of looks the same.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: They are very like like within a Star Wars universe,
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: like Star Wars universe is the most wild West, the
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: worst place to live kind of thing where it's like
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: you got to pull your weight in some kind of way,
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: you gotta have some kind of like ruggedness about you,
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: because there's like it's just a wild place to be
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: and the weakest, most scared and cowardly creatures that have
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: no appreciation for individuality or of life. And they refer
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: to its specifically with the word chaos, which is what
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: we're actually seeing in our real life regime right now,
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: where chaos is used for any kind of special individ
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: visuality and celebration. In the moment, thinks that every form
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: of oppression so that way everything can be flattened is
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: beautiful because they don't fit in another world. They don't
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: fit in a world where there's like edges to anything,
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: but it's impossible to smooth out all edges, so those
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: people always be the and it's fun to watch. No,
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: it's yeah, Cyril, Like we were talking about Cyril Dedra,
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: I really had no sympathy for them, you know, for
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: especially you know, at the end of their careers and lives.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: I thought they both got exactly what they deserved.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I was speaking of Mellow about this scene Dedra in prison.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: Did you know give me a slight like a bit
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: of regret, just because like I said, I don't. I
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: think the concept of prison is so inhumane, and that
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: especially that one they were in was so just, you know,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: way too real to life for me.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: So I was like, damn.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: But at the same time, it's like, well, you know,
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: because my only other thing for her would have been
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: a you know, bolt to the head.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: So I was, you know, like.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: About that conversation because like, I know everything that happened
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: to you, and I'm always like horrified by the story.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: You know, I have so much sympathy for it. But
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: even when you told me that, I said, you a
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: bunch of cry laughing faces, this is.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Also true, and I had to accept. You know, Dedra
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: is a Nazi and you know, got what they deserve
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: by the end of it. And I, you know, Dedra
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: is like Sarah at least, can I can't understand both
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: of them. You know, Dedra was raised in this environment.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: This is all they know, just what they you know,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: were born into and they just and they love it.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: In a way, I think too, because Dedra really seemed
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: to join and I thought she really called sirr out.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: We were talking about this, but when she called him out,
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: like you weren't, you know, you didn't turn down none
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: of those promotions, you know, because any little bit of
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: growth for him, he just thought he was doing the
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: greatest thing in the world. Like when part of Gas
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: gave him a little shine, He's like, oh my god.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: You know about the you know, you're about to ejaculate
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: standing right there, and it's like, come on, man. I
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: also said that watching this series that this is the
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: first time I was like, yeah, that care the first time.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: Watching Star Wars w I was like, yeah, he likes
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: to get oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: Every night.
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: For me, Dedra was like a perfect example of what
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: happens when white women, white women like that, like our
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: MAGA supporters that wil for Trump, Like, yes, you think
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: you're apart, you think that you can keep rising through
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: the ranks. They think you were an equal, that you're
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: on the same level, But at the end of the day,
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: you fuck up, like you're the one that's gonna get
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: the blame. You're the one that's gonna get the punishment.
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: Because like she really was moving throughout this world like
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: she was an old white man, like she wants apart
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: so bad. She wanted to like be at the head,
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: you want to be in all the important plans. But
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: the end of the day, they never saw her in
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: that space. They just saw her as a tool to
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: get to what they want. And she realized that at
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: the end, like no, you weren't. You weren't our peer,
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: you weren't our colleague. You were just someone that we
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: wanted to use to get to the rebellion, to get
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: get back at them.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: Did y'all feel that it was intentional?
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: And this sometimes I really want to ask your boy
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: about like the fact that I mean, we know, the
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: empire is you know, usually uniformly non alien et cetera,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: you know, humanity only. But I really enjoyed how for
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: the most part it was straight up white men British
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: accents a lot of the times, and like Melo said,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: usually weak looking, you know, frail ass white man who
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: couldn't do anything else unless they had to support this empire.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: And then a few times we do see you know,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: brown or black people, Like we see the light stin brother,
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: like the one person of you know, a higher power
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: is a very light stin brother. He immediately vanishes out
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: of the scene, like you know, they're like, yeah, whatever,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: you fuck, it wants you out here, Negro. And then
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: we see the other darkstin brother in the heist and
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: during the Eye, and I thought his role was so
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: great because it was like he was used as that,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: like he was specifically a darkskin brother who is told
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: go tell these natives what to do, you know, and
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: all that type of stuff, and he's like, yo, I've
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: been serving you.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: I deserve that and did to.
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: The second fighter unfortunately, but you know, like that, please please,
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: I'll talk too much.
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: I wouldn't say that. Like for me, I saw it
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: as a way that they were.
- 1:13:13Speaker 6: Showing the lack of diversity from the original series like
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: the Empire, because we're because this is the timeline.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: Of the original like the first three movies. Yeah, so
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: like that's what the Empire looked like at the.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: Time, Like and it's like this is actually what is
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: it continuity that they are showing how like white stale
- 1:13:36Speaker 6: Stark it is because that's who they cast the first
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: time around, and like they did like they've upgraded the
- 1:13:41Speaker 6: like rebels to not be quite as much that you know,
- 1:13:45Speaker 6: So I do see that like this is a choice
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: outside of continuity as well. But also I think when
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: Melo was talking earlier about the idea of the rebels
- 1:13:57Speaker 6: being infection, like even in the hospital where they put luthen,
- 1:14:03Speaker 6: like everything is very sterile, like the colors of the Empire,
- 1:14:06Speaker 6: the colors of where they work, the colors of their
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: their uniforms, the colors that they are themselves, like washed
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: out in these like very dour plate like they are
- 1:14:16Speaker 6: they are they look like like to the Empire, probably
- 1:14:20Speaker 6: their representation of the white blood cells coming here to
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: fight the infection, and that's like literally what they are.
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: So I like the characterization like coinciding with the continuity
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: of the original series as well as like this concept
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: of like the rebels are an infection and they're here
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: to like pulse shit and get rid of it. I
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: think that also, like is what I catch from like
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: the color design. But yeah, I think, yeah, there's a
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: lot of intention behind the lack of diversity, And I'm.
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: Like and also like who wants to be cast? If
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: you're a person, like do you want to be cast
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: in the Empire? I don't think I would. I'd like,
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: excuse me.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Do you know anything what showed up for Kanye's video
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: so you know, to get them there?
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: If I was like in like, uh, I mean they
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: do it's all video auditions now, but if it was
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: like old school days, people go to the office gat
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: audition and I saw everyone and they looked like me,
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: and like they had like sunking in eyes and a
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: real long nose and they like had like just one
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: to two rap features.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: I'd be like, what what am I doing? Just don't
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: seem to be the Jedi line.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: I need to go make a BBC special or something.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I thought, I thought, And like you said, portion,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: I thought it was a great flip, you know, because
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: the original shows and movies did have you know, this
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: very whiteness to them, but especially in the Empire where
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: it's all old white men and they always look weak
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: and frail, you know, generally.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: So I thought that was just a really dope flip
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: of them to use that and make that work.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: And then you know, make it where Because I had
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: a friend who I've been telling about and Or and
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: he accidentally started on the second season, and so when
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: he starts, he's like, man, what is this? All these
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: British jobs, you know, just enforcing tops of whiteness and
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: all this, And I'm like, bro, you are completely missing
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: it because Diego Luna is the lead and he is
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: a you know, Mexican brother who speaks with a thick
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: accent versus all these white British cats who are speaking
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: with you know.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: So yeah, so I.
- 1:16:24Speaker 5: Thought it was very interesting that like Gorman was like
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: predominantly like rich white people and so like the fact
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: that like we saw this like massacre happen and like
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: basically the plan of genocide on like rich white people.
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: I thought it was a very interesting choice that they made,
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: Like how else are you gonna get like, you know,
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: the main audience to really resonate like if this is
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: like these upper class white people that like you saw
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: their buildings and out their fashions, like they weren't like
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: living in rags and like eating off the street, like
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: they had palaces. They look like fucking like Northwest Washington,
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: DC and there. And so I was like the fact
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: that you showed this happened to like these upper crosslooking
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: people is really speaking to like, yes, if this can
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: happen to them, this can happen to anyone.
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: Like don't think that you're.
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: Excluded from oppression, that you're excluded from like genocide happening
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: to you.
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: I liked that they showed man Matma talking to that
- 1:17:18Speaker 6: like textile merchant firm Gorman, who was like like in
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: like the time lass between she first saw him and
- 1:17:24Speaker 6: he was like, look, I can't like risk my like
- 1:17:28Speaker 6: my money made, like my resources that I'm making whatever
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: by like standing up with this like I can't do that.
- 1:17:33Speaker 6: And then it's like she sees him again later and
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: he's like it's over. I like, I know it's over,
- 1:17:39Speaker 6: and I know I can't do anything about it. And
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: it's like this is a like this is a planet
- 1:17:43Speaker 6: whose hold they have one resource that has made them
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: a bunch of wealth, and yet it still does not
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: save them when the empire comes like running right, And I.
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: Did, like I enjoyed that joyl too, because I was like,
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: this is not just a discussion.
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: About like race, it's also like class and it's like
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: not like all the things that like white supremacy has
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: told folks will save them, it's not.
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: It's never true.
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: Like and that's what that's the whole thing about what's
- 1:18:09Speaker 6: happening today, what's happened in history, Like all these echoes
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: and white people keep talking about the history and how
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: it goes today because it's there's like these quote about
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: like they came for this person, and then they came
- 1:18:20Speaker 6: and then they came for this person, and then they
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: came for me, and it's like that's how the cycle goes.
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: You're sitting here, you're.
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: Scapegoating one group of people, and they're kind of because
- 1:18:32Speaker 6: they're currently coming for them. You feel like you're safe.
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: But the closer and closer they get to you, you
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: go start thinking, oh crap, did I mess up?
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: And it's too late.
- 1:18:40Speaker 6: By then you don't have any recourse because you have
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: to sit with it, and like that, you should be
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: ready to go as soon as you see it pipe up.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: And the fact that.
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: People aren't keeps putting in putting us in this place.
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: It keeps putting people in the Tar Wars universe in
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: that place.
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: No.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: And I love that because, like and Gorman, you see
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: these rich white people, you know, like you said, you know,
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: taking the l's and having to deal with everything. But
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: throughout the series, like when in the play episode when
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: we see her first see people get massacred, it's a
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: bunch of people of color and it's children, everyone getting killed.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: And that's something else that I've often said, and I've
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: said it before on the show, is that tox of
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: whiteness affects us all like even when we're not at war,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: even though you know we are constantly pretty much out
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: of state of war with this, even just in the
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: normal everyday life, because like that, you see the empire
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: is drained of color, and it can be the same
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: thing in our reality. Like, Joel just hurt me when
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: you said, you know, it's like Northwest DC where all
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: the white people are, And I'm like, what, Like, you know,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: Northwest DC to.
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: Me is you know, black as hell and hood.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: But that's also Northwest d C of like ten, fifteen,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: twenty years ago, where it's like, no, Northwest DC has
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: now been sterilized and a lot of that color and
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: that flavor has been taken out of it. And I
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: see the same thing happening in bed Star where I
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: live now, where people are trying to sterilize Bedsty and
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: take all the flavor and the color out of it.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: And it's such a sad life because flavor and color
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: and all these things bring so much joy and happiness
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: and wealth to the world, and to take it out
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: of it, everyone suffers because of it. Oh, I do
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: have a question for Joel and for everyone. How did
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: y'all feel about Bell and Sinta And did you feel
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: that it was a bit of kill your gaze trope,
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: some gay erasure going on here?
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: You know?
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: I was I love getting to see Bell and Sentta
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: on the screen, like I thought their story was really beautiful.
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: Like I loved Sinta since season one where she had
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: that conversation with Belle like I'm about this rebellion, like
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: at the end of the day, like I love you,
- 1:20:49Speaker 5: but I'm about this rebellion. So if it's not about
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: this rebellion, we can't keep it going. And then to
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: see her like turn around in season two and be like, actually,
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: like my life can't just be about the rebellion, like
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: I live and like I want to choose you. But
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: then to like, you know, her heartbreakingly gets shot up
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: in the heist scene and like because of some stupid
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: white man they couldn't follow instructions, Like I think it
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: was it was hard to see that because like again,
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: you know, Disney likes to give us like a little shot,
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: a little shot of rainbow, a little shot of gay,
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: and then like take it away so quickly. So yeah,
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: I think it was nice to see it. But at
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: the same time, like to have Sin to Die as
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: kind of like this this plot device to like you know,
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: Vell is now kind of feeling type of way and
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: she's moving throughout the rebellion in a different like mindset
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: because of how Sin to die. I mean really like
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: since his death also kind of being a booster for that.
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: I don't remember their names in Gorman, but that one
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: white man like when we saw him a few like
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: time passed later when it was time for the masacre,
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: like he was about that life now, like he really
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: you could tell that, like what Bell said, like since
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: is gonna be with you forever, like she will always
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: be a part of you. You can kind of tell
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: that he's felt that and like he sees like all
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: these people and wants to make sure that like he
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: does right by people because he knows that he did
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: wrong by Santa. I think it was just And then
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: like is.
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: That is that do we have to use?
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: Do we have to sacrifice Santa to get to that?
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: Especially like this beautiful brown lesbian woman, Like why did
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: she have to be the one to like be the
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: catalyst to get the the Gorman rebellion like to where
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: it needed to be.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: Manage?
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: You fine, it's such a bad ass on a new
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: season the Doctor. Yeah, I know, no, Like I fell
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: in love with her when she came home.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: It was like that's not my blood and you know,
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: and then I love Bell that moment too, because bells
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: like look at my badass bitch was a winner. That's
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: when I fell in love with both of them, right there,
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: anyone else, How did y'all feel about Bell and Censa?
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: I also love Santa the first time we met her,
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: and honestly because I don't, I didn't, I didn't follo
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: in love with Belle. Bell Is has always been like
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: the scrappy white woman. She's exactly who she is, the
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: rich white woman who got into the rip of rebel
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: to like be different from the rest of her family.
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: And I look at me, I mean what I say,
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: and I do what I do, and I'm boom boom bang,
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: like I've never really cared for her. Sinta was everything
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: for me and I was whenever since A died, I
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: was like, couldn't it have been Bell because then I
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: would feel a little bit better about what's happening.
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: Not like no real shade to Bell, just that I
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: prefer Santa. And then also I think.
- 1:23:38Speaker 6: Like I also just liked that her death was all
- 1:23:41Speaker 6: to serve for this random white man who does not
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: mean anything, since I means so much, and I think
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: that's part of the story, Like it doesn't help, It
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: doesn't help the story at all.
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: To me like I don't like it, but I see
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: what they.
- 1:23:54Speaker 6: Were doing with like sometimes the people who you think
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: should deserve to get to the end are not going
- 1:24:00Speaker 6: to make it, and that like you get that, we
- 1:24:02Speaker 6: get this so earlier on in the season that you're like,
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: we is preparing to stage for what we're going to
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: see later. But I just didn't like that, And again
- 1:24:08Speaker 6: couldn't have been Beil, Like she didn't really serve she
- 1:24:11Speaker 6: wasn't doing too much for me this season since I.
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: Was doing so much, and so couldn't have been should
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: But again no.
- 1:24:21Speaker 6: Shape of bell except for I don't I don't see
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: it for you. And then I think for if for
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: it to serve the white random white man, I think
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: it goes back to mellow. It's not about the special
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: special boy or whatever kind of thing. It's like, now
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: is he the special boy?
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: Like is he like?
- 1:24:36Speaker 6: Oh, like the fact that his gun went off and
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: the guy who he was tussling with, probably if you
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: would have just said to the man, hey, we're doing
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: a covert operation right now, like because he was part
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: of the Gorman Resistance, he just wasn't like as into it,
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: like in the way that they were and he was
- 1:24:52Speaker 6: just like, hey, we're.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: Doing an operation right now.
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: I need didn't chill like kind of like circin like
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: and I think, again, that's part of the plot.
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: Is that like this, I is not thinking. He doesn't
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: know how to like he's not.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: He's a he's like a foot soldier.
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: He's not really prepared to like actually respond in a
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: way that makes sense right now. But I just it, Yeah,
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: it all annoyed me. I'm like, he should have died
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: over her, Bell should have died over her. Any of
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: them could have died with side cens sent I should
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: still be kicking. And I actually was annoyed because I
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: also wanted to. I think it was like a layup
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: for us to hear about what happened when she drove Koma,
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: like what Luthn led her to do, and she said
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: she's gonna tell Belle later, and then we get her
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: killed off and we never really get the story. And
- 1:25:36Speaker 6: I'm like, that was like, again, Santa should have survived,
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: she had the story to tell, she had the notes,
- 1:25:43Speaker 6: and maybe we'll get a comic, but I don't want that.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: I want sensa. Okay, I rest my kids.
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: I don't know. That was pretty perfect it. I do
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: think it was. For me, it was a they they
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: killed the gays in this regards and like it's I'm
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: a big Joe Joe's Bizarre Adventure friend, and that is
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: a show where like if you kill a character because
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: they're pretty much a lot of them are somewhat pretty
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: positive gay representation and a lot of regards as you
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: go later in the seasons, and they do kill a
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: gay couple in it, and you don't feel it as
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: her in regards to like, I can't believe they would
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: do that to this couple because you still have so
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: many options. You got the rest of the cast, and
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: like it feels different. It's just like if Bicks was
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: a man, I wonder if I would feel the same
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: way about everything that happened to how we got that
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: story portrayed to us. But she's not, and and Santa
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: and Veil are both gay women, and we lose one
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: and we lose our favorite one, and yeah, I'm just upset,
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: And I wonder if that was the goal. I wonder
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: if it was the goal to just be upset about,
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: like you're going to lose the one that you like
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: a lot, and you probably may not feel as much
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: about it as you would about like Bell. But at
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: the same time, I do like Vell a lot because
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: I like Vell actually more than I like mam Mama.
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: And the reason why is because, like, yes, Bell is
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: doing the thing that Luthen is like, you're going to
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: have to do this, and my Mathma is the treasury
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: and some and like, as a general, I don't know
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: she's always the person that deserves that part, and I
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: actually actively think she probably isn't the person who deserves
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: that part, and Bell is the one that does because
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: Bell knows how to get dirty and she's living. She's
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: living the thing she's not typing on Twitter about like
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: we should stand up y'all. She's right out there in
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: the dirt for most waiting for one heist and trying
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: to manage everybody, making all the right deals and everything
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: like that. And she when she loses Sensa, she loses
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: like this important piece of herself. But that's just fridging
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: her girlfriend. She could have got that a different way.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, And I also agree with the same
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: thing that I think I love Vel more than I
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: love my Matha, and I get what your same port.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: But I felt like Vell made that choice more so
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: than Ma Mathma did, whereas like like man is still
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: like but we have to live, Like when she tells
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: that the vel when they're you know, on the retreat,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: and it's like Vell's already past that point, Like living
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: isn't really the option, Like rebellion, war is a moan
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: is still thinking and I think that's you know, I'm
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: not even sure if she ever comes to that place.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: Like Melo said, she's still wearing you know, slightly nice
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: dresses throughout the time that we see her. It's like
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: she never really comes to the place realizing what she's
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: really a part of, you know. It's like that was
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: one of my other favorite you know lines, just how
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: nice of you, you know, how nice for you? Is
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: when Luton tells her that that ship was so fucking
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: cold blooded, Like that's something that I've used a normal conversation,
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: you know, since then, and.
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: We'll continue for the rest of my life. It's how
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: nice for you, you know, Like, oh.
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: Wow, it's also kind of telling. But I don't know
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: if this is like the actress and like how she
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: normally is, because the actress who plays Bell was also
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: an adolescence and she sort of has the same posture
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: that she does within anding mm hmm. But when she
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: is within those like very fancy parties, whenever we see
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: her there, there's a layer of like she doesn't belong
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: there there, like we know who she really is, and
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: like this is this looks like a disguise. This feels
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: like like like how we're supposed to be looking at,
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: like how Batman thinks of himself, Like in his mind
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: he calls us self Batman. He doesn't. He never calls
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: himself Bruce. I feel the same way about Bell. Whenever
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: she is in her civilian clothing, she's just like, I
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: guess I got to put on this pretty dress, and
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: I guess I gotta walk this way, And she chooses
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: still not to walk that way. She walks pretty tough.
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: She is still kind of like pretty hands off and
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: pretty stern in that environment. And I like that about
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: that character. It's like this is this is who she
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: actually is, as opposed to man Mathma, who was like
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: you need her, you on her, You have to have
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: this person there because they're also funness. But at the
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: same time, I don't know if that's the person that
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: should be telling us what to do.
- 1:30:43Speaker 6: Beautiful yeah, I was just having this conversation for a
- 1:30:46Speaker 6: real life step about the role of donors and how
- 1:30:52Speaker 6: donor's move is. And this is anybody right like we
- 1:30:55Speaker 6: see it's on the local lize level with ourselves. Like
- 1:30:58Speaker 6: whenever we're paying money for service, we feel like we
- 1:31:01Speaker 6: should dictate how that service is rendered, right like we're
- 1:31:04Speaker 6: paying for it, we should be able to say what
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: we get from it. Donors act that way with these
- 1:31:10Speaker 6: major things, with like I'm giving you my money because
- 1:31:16Speaker 6: you said that you're going to like use it towards
- 1:31:20Speaker 6: a defense fund.
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: I think that I should.
- 1:31:23Speaker 6: Dictate if like, not only the defense fund, like this
- 1:31:26Speaker 6: is what I support, but if you move in a
- 1:31:28Speaker 6: way that I don't feel like aligns with my politics
- 1:31:32Speaker 6: outside of like you tweet something about a cause that
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: I don't align with, then I feel like I should
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: be able to tell you that you should never tweet
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: that way because that's that's against my role as a donor,
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: and therefore I will really not give you further donations
- 1:31:48Speaker 6: in the future if you continue to do that thing.
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: So I think, man, Mathma is she's holding the reins
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: as I'm the one providing money. Therefore I get to
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: dictate what said, and Luten is like she what can
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: like I can only brain her in.
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: I can't say that no, because that's not how that works.
- 1:32:11Speaker 6: But I was going to say, I was while we're
- 1:32:13Speaker 6: here on this family, how did y'all feel about the
- 1:32:16Speaker 6: daughter and the wedding and her like her like man
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: Mathama being like, you know, you don't have to do this,
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: like my mom did not do this for me, but
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: I want to do this for you, like you don't
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: have to do this, and her getting like a slap
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: in the face and that what did you How did
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: y'all feel about that? If you felt anything at all
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: about this whole situation?
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: I thought that it was like and I think that
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: goes into something. I feel like that society is very traditional,
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: and I feel like that's why Belle is the way
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: she is too, where she's there, where when she talks
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: to Player, she's like, we're just two single women out
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: here looking for prospects when both of them are not that,
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: you know, And I feel like that society is a
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: society where it's like, especially as it seems to you know,
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: being steered back towards conservativism.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: You know, it's like it's going back to the always
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: and the always. So you get married young to a
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: dude and you have a family, et cetera. So I
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: feel like it's that For my mathma, it's the yo.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: It's like my kid has bought, you know, has dranked
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: the kool aid, and everything I did to raise this
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: kid a different way it hasn't worked out.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: They like to taste of the kool aid, and so
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: I'm going to have to accept that and move on.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: I think it's telling that we really don't even see
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: her daughter after that. Like at the end, we see
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: you know, her husband, you know, off with you know,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: his new boot. You know, I'm not sure what happened
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: to old booze, you know.
- 1:33:35Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: Yeah, like that's a little a little interesting.
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: I realized, because I think my man's is a player,
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: you know. I feel like, you know, everybody loves him,
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: used to life for the party, you know. So, but
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: we don't see her daughter after that because she is
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: fully drained the kool aid and is you know, well
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: on her way to being you know, a little miss princess. Yeah,
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: I mean I agree. I'm always gonna want an episode
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: where we talk about and or I'm always going to
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: bring up still hilarious. The parent is past pointing as
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: a jedily appropriating Jedi every time we see them, and
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: that says everything you need to know about him as
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: a person. But in regards to like Mon Mathma and
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: the wedding is the crucial point there is that it
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: happened on Mond Mathma's personal writing day where her mom
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: didn't get have that talk with her, but her mom
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: did drink so much that she couldn't stop dancing and
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: like she was like just completely out of it. And
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: that let man Matha know two things. Is the endless
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: cycle that is infinite and impossible to break, and this
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: is just your turn in it, Like you are not
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: that special, which is also what the show is kind
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: of saying as a whole about all these characters, that
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: they're all just fogs in a cycle instead of the
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: special piece. And there's beauty in being a cloud yea.
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: But for her situation that the andism that she is
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: is so toxic that it proves the second point, which
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: is you can't beat this monster from the inside. It's
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: going to keep eating you no matter how much you
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: think you're in control, no matter how much you think
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: you have ability for it. These these aren't monsters you
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: could beat by being the person that's just in the
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: door and it's slowly chipping everything away. And her reflection
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: of that moment as she just gave the okay for
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: her friend to be assassinated by just being like, I'm
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: going to clutch my pearls until it's over and Luthen
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: giving her a pass and be like I'll let you
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: do that this time. Yeah, you can do that this time,
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: like like go go drink that. I think that is
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: the birth of who man Mama will be later, that
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: particular moment. But even still that's that's all. That's also
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: still further approving the point where I'm just like, why
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: is she the leader of the rebellion?
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: But yeah, the money talk, Yeah, I mean, I think
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: when I saw that scene, it was very I think
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: it was when mon Matha realized like what she was
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: going to have to sacrifice for this for like her
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: one of her big sacrifices was like her family and
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: like her privilege and her status, and like you know,
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: it's kind of like a shout out to like, hey,
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: white people, you're gonna have to sacrifice your privilege, to
- 1:36:33Speaker 5: be a part, like you can't have all the nice things,
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: and I think, like you are going to have to
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: cut relationships. You are going to have to cut ties,
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: like she realized because oh, my daughter is so into this.
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: My family is like they've drank the kool aid so much,
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: like there's no turning back from them. But I know
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: that's like not the right path, Like I have to
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: make the decision that I can't be on the same
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: path as them anymore.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: Like she was drinking her life away because.
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: She was just like, well, fuck it, this is the
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: last time I really spend with my family because I
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: know from here on out, I can't follow the same
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: path that they're on. Like if they decide to come
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: to their bellion, cool, but they've chosen their life and
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: they've chosen to be on the empire side. So like
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: I have to really like make that sacrifice of like, yeah,
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: I can't have this relationship with my daughter or my husband.
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: All right, we have spoken about this season for a
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: good minute here. Any last thoughts anyone, anything else you
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: want to talk about, anything you felt you took away
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: from this show, you know, any last feelings anything before
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: we get out of here.
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: Recently, I saw something that kind of like put everything
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: back into perspective of me for me about like this
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: current present moment and like really how people are moving
- 1:37:47Speaker 6: and I think the indoor has been doing. Like it's
- 1:37:50Speaker 6: what indoor showcases in a way is very much this
- 1:37:53Speaker 6: thought about what we're doing, like what we're the progress
- 1:37:58Speaker 6: we're making, what we're trying to do, what they're trying
- 1:38:00Speaker 6: to make progress towards what they end up like seeing
- 1:38:04Speaker 6: people on the fall to the waystside and they themselves
- 1:38:07Speaker 6: are like you know, coming off of and being traumatized
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: by they're not feutile, Like there is this like greater,
- 1:38:15Speaker 6: bigger picture, but the bigger picture is and it also
- 1:38:18Speaker 6: like you see this in Rogue one. It's not on
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: you realizing and being able to see it yourself within
- 1:38:24Speaker 6: your lifetime.
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: It's on you to build out your time in a.
- 1:38:28Speaker 6: Way that the people that come behind you are able
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: to actually make that thing come to fruition. So not
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: to lose heart when you don't see things that you're
- 1:38:37Speaker 6: building towards actually come and like actually come into fristion
- 1:38:41Speaker 6: and become part of life in front of you. This
- 1:38:44Speaker 6: is something that is a longer term legacy. And I
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: think that's the that's the story of Luthan, that's the
- 1:38:51Speaker 6: story of the whole rebellion. But I think seeing Luthen's
- 1:38:54Speaker 6: case is very like specific of like that's how quick
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: to turn around is you can be in it, not
- 1:39:00Speaker 6: not want to be in it, decide to be in
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: it for like a very like specific reason, become intertwined
- 1:39:07Speaker 6: with it, create your own space within it, and then
- 1:39:11Speaker 6: also know that when you're it's your time to go,
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: is your time to go, But at least you've done
- 1:39:15Speaker 6: what you've can so that someone else behind you can
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: take up your take up the cause and move forward
- 1:39:20Speaker 6: because it's something that you've done. So I found I
- 1:39:24Speaker 6: find a level of like heart in that. But also
- 1:39:27Speaker 6: that is it's not something easy to do. It's not
- 1:39:30Speaker 6: easy to like reconcile with the fact that what you're
- 1:39:33Speaker 6: doing now is not something that you will see the
- 1:39:36Speaker 6: bear the fruits of in your lifetime. But you have
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: to be okay with that, and I appreciate seeing that nandor.
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I think to add on, I liked how we
- 1:39:48Speaker 5: saw with Luthan that like not everyone is like quote
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: unquote right all the time, but like will their ideas.
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: Their contributions still matter, Like I think about that episodes
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: are there where, and Or's back and he's telling the
- 1:40:02Speaker 5: news of the death Star, and the Council's kind of
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: like shitting on Luthen. They're like, oh, like why should
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: we believe Luthan, Like it's been a year since you've
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: last talked him. We don't know what he's been doing.
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: And Andre was like, it's an insult to like what
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: he's done for the rebellion for y'all to be talking
- 1:40:17Speaker 5: to him about, Like, yes he had his flaws, Yes
- 1:40:19Speaker 5: he didn't always make the right choices, but like his
- 1:40:22Speaker 5: contributions matter, Like well, I was recently in the Philippines
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: and I was at the Museum of Like but they
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: showed the different revolutions and like how one of our
- 1:40:30Speaker 5: major revolutions is like on just Bonifacio was like, by
- 1:40:32Speaker 5: the end of the time, I was.
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: Seen as a trader.
- 1:40:34Speaker 5: And it's just like the leaders that we have in
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: the rebellion, they might not all be right one hundred
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: percent of the time, but like the ideas that they
- 1:40:41Speaker 5: contribute that we build up off that we like polish
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: and refine and like make better their their contributions still matter,
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: and we need to.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: Make sure that we understand like how everyone has the
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: part to play. I'm not sure gonna go pretty full
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: of mine because how serious this all is. So if
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: you are a fan of and Or and you're like, yo,
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: this is the part of the Star Wars universe that
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: I actually like and that I love it. This is
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: the only part I want to stick with. Anything like that,
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: They're not going to make anymore. What your worriesn't coming back,
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: don't worry, because what you actually are as a fan
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: of mumble Suit Gundam, this show is one Gundam. It
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: is as Gundam as possible. If you want recommendations as
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: a way to start with Gundam, the original seventies show
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: is one of the best. Child Soldier. This is what
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: it's like to be a civilian during war and then
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: you suddenly pick up a gun and you figure out
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: what it's about and it puts you through the mental
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: process of everything that goes through that. It's amazing it
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: does that. There's Iron Blooded Orphans, which is got the
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: dopest premise I've ever heard of in the show, which
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: is a bunch of child soldiers free themselves from their captors,
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: turn themselves into a company of mercenaries, and then they
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: take the money that they earn to go free more
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: child soldiers and add to their army, which is the
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: dopest concept ever. And then there's also Gundam Double Low,
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: which is like, what if sower energy became the main
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: power in the world and it made other places like
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: Saudi Arabia and Russia useless? What happens to the Grold
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: and what kind of factions happen and what kind of
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: war goes on during that? And your main characters who
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: are Dune the pilots identify themselves as terrorists where they
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: go to a battlefield and they kill everybody until they
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: all stop fighting because they're cool with being villains. So
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: what I'm saying is, if you like and Or, please
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: watch Gundam because it's doing all that, and it doesn't
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: have the Star Wars problem where you're watching a fraction
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: of a story. You're getting the whole thing. You're getting
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: the full meal. You have to walk away with it.
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: So don't worry that Andor's going because you got tons
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: of all of that so available to you.
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: But since we're doing better recommendations and I just recently
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: rewatched it. I would and I always say this, watch
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: Athena on Netflix. It's one of the greatest to me
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: ever made. And if you want to see something that's
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: as hard and tough and inspiring as and Or about
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: revolution and rebellion, I would say Athena is it because
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: we watching it really broke my heart again and it
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: also inspired me. And that's something I take away from
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: and Or it's like, you know, I thought that you know,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: mom was a little bugging when she says, you know,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: we have to live, and even her husband who's like,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: you know, we got to enjoyed a good times in life.
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: I feel like that's also a real beautiful part of
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: the show is that it shows you that even while
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: others are losing their humanity, you know, you still have
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: to hold onto that because that is something that makes
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: us great.
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: I believe in our art, our music are everything that
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: we create.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: Being a creative is something that you know, it's always
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: I just do every day, even if we're in a fight,
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: I still believe we have to live and have to
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: enjoy this life as much as possible.
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: During all these dark times that we're all living through
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: and So. I thought that was very beautiful for and
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: Or to say that as well. I think that's about it.
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: I you know, could talk about this show, and we
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: probably will be talking more about the show in the
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: coming weeks. I definitely want to would love to have
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: an all star review of and Or, so I could
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: talk more about it.
- 1:44:14Speaker 3: Will be.
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: Like I said, I'll be going to a talk tomorrow
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: to speak with mister Gilroy himself. Hopefully we can get
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: him on for All Nerds very soon to discuss this.
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: It will be one of my greatest moments on this
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: show to have him on here. So let's make that happen.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: Anything else before we get out here and all, y'all,
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: please let the people know where they can find you
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: at if you want them to find you.
