- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome back to the ninety six annual World Series of
- 0:20Extreme Trass here in Onion Dale, California, once again, and
- 0:24as always, I'm your host, Christian Pickles. Joining us from
- 0:28the floor is our correspondent on the scene, Sandy Castle's
- 0:31and with me in the action room today is my
- 0:33co host Dale Haydell Dale. What can we expect from
- 0:37today's game?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Thanks Chris Well.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Day seven is about to get underway, and our initial
- 0:42field of forty six thousand competitors has been whittled down
- 0:46to only two hundred and fifty five, the odd number
- 0:49owing to an unfortunate turn of events from the end
- 0:52of Day six when fan favorite Tobias toblerone was disqualified
- 0:57from the tournament. When referees discover the presence of performance
- 1:00enhancing drugs is hourly blood sample.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You hate to see it, Dale. While everyone seems to
- 1:05be talking about the Toblerne scandal, at least one individual
- 1:09must be feeling like the cat that ate the Canary.
- 1:12I'm talking, of course, about Joseph Joe Schmoe Shmosef, the
- 1:16recipient of the incredibly rare by round starting to Daze tournament.
- 1:20Speaker 3: That's right, Chris Joe was sent to face off against
- 1:23tobleron this morning before the doping scandal broke. We can
- 1:27see that he's making the most of his time off.
- 1:29It looks like yes, Joe Schmoe has hung a hammock
- 1:33on the tournament floor and appears to be taking a
- 1:35restorative power nap.
- 1:36Speaker 1: The Greek philosopher Lucia Seneca once said that luck is
- 1:39when opportunity meets preparation, and Joe Schmoe certainly came here
- 1:44today prepared to sit this one out.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Let's not downplay the mental aspect. By sleeping in such
- 1:50close proximity to the other players.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Joe is showing off.
- 1:54Speaker 3: That kind of power move must really be getting under
- 1:56his fellow competitors' skins, which really goes to show how
- 2:00the top players are never not playing.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Of course, we can't talk about mind games without bringing
- 2:05up Porky Toyota, the first runner up of the forty
- 2:08fourth Annual Games, who famously utilize hypnosis to secure an
- 2:12edge over his competition.
- 2:14Speaker 3: That's right, Chris, those really were the wild West days
- 2:17of extreme chess before rules against mind control went into effect.
- 2:21Speaker 1: But mind control can only take you so far in
- 2:24a game like Extreme Chess, this.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Ain't your grandmother's chess game, that's for sure.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Despite topol Run's graceless exit, there are still plenty of
- 2:33familiar faces in our final two fifty five, including last
- 2:37year's champion Miranda Buttercup, who, according to sports Betting, is
- 2:41favored to cinch her second crown.
- 2:43Speaker 3: While Miranda has positioned herself as the one to beat,
- 2:47we have a few newcomers making impressive displays as well.
- 2:50For one, I'm interested to see how far twelve year
- 2:53old prodigy Gizmo tinky Winky makes it today.
- 2:56Speaker 1: While Tinky Winky has had an impressive run, he is
- 2:59not the youngest player to reach day eight in an
- 3:02extreme chess tournament.
- 3:04Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 3:05Speaker 3: But you'd had to go back fifteen years to find
- 3:07Orio Sprite, who made it to the final four at
- 3:10the age of ten. Orio has since hung up her
- 3:13chess playing hat and now serves as a diplomat to
- 3:16the Interstellar Convoy on behalf of the United Earth Federation.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Such a shame to see that kind of talent wasted
- 3:22in politics.
- 3:23Speaker 3: The youngest player who ever reached day eight was, of course,
- 3:27super prodigy Brian Brain, who was born on the first
- 3:31day of the tenth annual Extreme Chess Tournament and went
- 3:34on to play second against grand champion Pizza Bentley.
- 3:37Speaker 1: That was a match for the ages. The two are
- 3:39nearly matched in skill. Brain, of course, had the advantage
- 3:42of spending the previous nine months in utero studying Bentley's
- 3:46past games, searching for weaknesses. Bentley, on the other hand,
- 3:51was an adult, and in the end, that gave him
- 3:54the edge needed to defeat the new born infant.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Brain, of course, went on to place and win several
- 3:59more championships before the success and rock Star Lifestyle eventually
- 4:04took their toll on him, leading to his retirement at
- 4:07the age of seven.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Let's take this opportunity to go live to Sandy Castle's Sandy.
- 4:12Today's games are about to begin. Toblerne was expected to
- 4:15reach the final sixteen and now he's been disqualified. I
- 4:19know a lot of players were hoping for a chance
- 4:21to go toe to toe with the legend before this upset.
- 4:24What can you tell us about the mood of the
- 4:25room today? Interesting? And what about the other players? Are
- 4:31they letting this distract him from what's at stake?
- 4:41Speaker 3: Well, there you have it, folks. Professionalism at its finest.
- 4:45We really are living in a golden age for the sport.
- 4:47I think this would be an ideal time to mention
- 4:49that observable reality is actually determined by him.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And we're off. We've only just now heard the ceremonial
- 4:57extreme chess gunshot signifying the startup today day's play, and
- 5:01the competition is already fiercely underway.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Looks like an early upset a table eight.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Let's take a closer look. Ah yes, Table eight is
- 5:10where previous Grandmaster Flishy Flash is going head to head
- 5:14with newcomer Oliver Laplace. Flash mixed up his usual play
- 5:18style with an aggressive opening the Danish gambit, to which
- 5:22Laplace reacted with an equally aggressive attack on E four,
- 5:26a no holds barred early game between two giants, and
- 5:29it looks like Flash is considering, oh my god, I
- 5:33don't believe it. Flashes open his queenside rook for a
- 5:36possible pin.
- 5:38Speaker 3: That's a classic honey pot. There's no way Laplace can resist.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Oh whoa did.
- 5:46Speaker 1: You just see that?
- 5:48Speaker 2: That's right, Chris, remarkable. Laplace just castled Kingside.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's this kind of play that makes me feel humble,
- 5:57a mere mortal sitting here witnessing the literal apotheosis of
- 6:01human ability.
- 6:02Speaker 2: The implications here are, well, it's a lot to unpack.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Flash is reeling from this last move. His entire strategy
- 6:10was based on Laplace's weak frontline. Now he's having to
- 6:13rethink everything. Let's go to Sandy, who's on the scene. Sandy,
- 6:16what does Flash need to do now to regain momentum
- 6:19in this game?
- 6:27Speaker 2: And do you think we'll see any sort of rebuttal
- 6:29from Laplace?
- 6:37Speaker 1: I guess we'll have to wait and see, won't we.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Let's go now to table three, where Eliza Smalls and
- 6:42Ukulele Ramirez are deep into their mid game.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Smalls and Ramirez are both equally matched on paper. Ramirez
- 6:49has always been a strong defensive player, which Smalls is
- 6:52looking to take advantage of Small's plays. Rook to E three,
- 6:56Ramirez counters with a pond to be four. Small is
- 7:00meticulously cutting through Ramirez's defenses, leaving nowhere for him to hide,
- 7:05but Ramirez covers with staggered pawns night to see three.
- 7:09Bishop takes pawn Rook to A four. Queen takes Rook.
- 7:13It looks like we're seeing a new Oh my.
- 7:15Speaker 2: God, I don't believe it.
- 7:18Speaker 1: A truly outstanding powerhouse of a move from Smalls. Holy shit,
- 7:24Smalls just blew this game off. The hinges night to
- 7:27see four check. Ramirez moves back his king, but you
- 7:31can see it in his eyes he knows the game
- 7:33is over.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Now. What Smalls did here was run her opponent around
- 7:37in a circle, then cut through the circle and cut
- 7:40off the head of the snake of the circle.
- 7:43Speaker 1: A beautiful maneuver. I'm sure we'll be studying that one
- 7:46for years to come.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And oh, look at this.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Ramirez is fleeling. He's hoping for any way out to
- 7:53undo the damage that has just been done. He's calling
- 7:56for a referee to review that play.
- 7:58Speaker 3: The last effort of a desperate man. The refs won't
- 8:01find anything. Ramirez can request the referees to draw another
- 8:04blood test from Smalls. But that move didn't look like
- 8:06the effects of think at all to me. That was
- 8:09just pure, simple, peak human performance.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Ramirez played well, but he was outclassed by one of
- 8:15the greatest players to ever grace these halid halls. And
- 8:18it looks like, yes, the referees are going to draw
- 8:21more blood. Here comes the official chess Master nurse with
- 8:25a fresh needle while they draw blood samples. This might
- 8:28be a great time to hear a word from our sponsor.
- 8:31Today's tournament coverage is brought to you.
- 8:33Speaker 3: By Did you alienate your entire family, drove all your
- 8:37friends away with your intolerable behavior? Find that even casual
- 8:40acquaintances can't stand to be around you for more than
- 8:42a few minutes. Well, who better to put up with
- 8:44you than you? With one quick call to clone of
- 8:47my own, you can relieve your solitude. But the companion
- 8:50who will never leave you because they are you, your clone, Chris, Chris.
- 9:13Can you hear me?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Chris?
- 9:16Speaker 3: It's time to wake up.
- 9:19Speaker 1: We're ado, you know, and we're back. It didn't take long,
- 9:41but we've already seen a great deal of the unexpected
- 9:43here Today, former Grandmaster Flash has yielded his game over
- 9:47to Oliver Laplace. Theresa Jones knocked out his opponent Zits Mackenzie.
- 9:53Speaker 3: This, of course, disqualifies Jones from the match, as physical
- 9:56violence is expressly forbidden in extreme Chess. I think that
- 10:00once Zitz wakes up, he will be happy to learn
- 10:03that he's won his match by default.
- 10:05Speaker 1: On the other side of the extreme Chess Hall. Booger
- 10:07Boogerson has just won his game against Kiki the Talking Cat.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I find it interesting not only that a talking cat exists,
- 10:15but that she is able to play and even progress
- 10:19in a chess tournament. I mean, when you really think
- 10:21about it, that doesn't make a whole lot.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Of hold that thought.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Dale.
- 10:24Speaker 1: The results of the Small's blood test are in, and
- 10:27just as we expect it, they are negative for performance
- 10:30enhancing drugs. Honestly, I'm surprised they even wasted a needle
- 10:34for this.
- 10:35Speaker 3: This is pure speculation on my part, but I have
- 10:38to wonder if the refs are airing on the side
- 10:40of caution ever since Toblerone's incident. I've got a feeling
- 10:44this will go down in extreme chess history as one
- 10:47of the worst cheating scandals since the fourteenth Annual Games,
- 10:50where contestant Florida Georgia Bama was revealed to actually be
- 10:54nothing more than three supercomputers in a trench coat.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Let's go live to the floor where Sandy has just
- 11:00spoken to the refs. Sandy, do you have any insights?
- 11:08You bring up an interesting point. There is that microscopic
- 11:11chance that Toblrun's appeal will net him a second chance
- 11:15to enter the competition. But an appeal in extreme chess
- 11:18is a complicated process, Dale, you spent a few years
- 11:21in Extreme Chess law school. That's right, Chris, What can
- 11:24you tell us about the appeals process?
- 11:26Speaker 3: Well, Once the judges have ruled that a player's blood
- 11:29contains evidence of performance enhancers, like think it all, there's
- 11:33not much that can be done. In order to initiate
- 11:35an appeal. The expelled player must fill out the necessary
- 11:38paperwork and have it notarized by all four elders of
- 11:42the Extreme Chess International Committee. After this, they must face
- 11:45the designated Chess Master Grand Warrior in a one on
- 11:48one game.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Of speed chess.
- 11:50Speaker 3: If successful, they will be granted a meeting with the
- 11:53Extreme Chess Appellate High Council. Even then, though, the onus
- 11:57is on the player to prove that they ingested the
- 11:59drug by accident, or that they were poisoned, or that
- 12:02the blood sample was otherwise tainted.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Now, what is a likelihood that something like that may
- 12:06have Befallen Toblerone, I'd.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Say not very likely at all. Blood samples are tested
- 12:11immediately by a state of the art piece of equipment
- 12:14with practically no room for error, and as we all know,
- 12:17the only way to ingest think it all is by
- 12:20conjuring the demon Gorseth in a blood ritual involving the
- 12:23sacrifice of one's own parents. And our referees literally have
- 12:27footage of Tobias slaying the elder mister and Missus Toblerone.
- 12:31Speaker 1: The thing some people are willing to do for a
- 12:33slight edge in this game is remarkable.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Sometimes a slight edge is all you need. And speaking
- 12:39of blood and demonic rituals, Table six features one of
- 12:42the game's oldest players, Dracula, son of Dracol. I hope
- 12:48I'm saying drackel right son said kill cool.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I don't know how.
- 12:53Speaker 3: To pronounce Romanian, but rakoul Dracula means little dragon. This
- 13:00year marks the Dark Lord's seventy ninth attempts to win
- 13:03the crown as Extreme Chess Champion. So far, he has
- 13:06never made it to the final table. Will this be
- 13:09his year? Only time will tell.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Dracula's competitor in today's match isn't going to give him
- 13:14that chance without a fight. Twenty year old Niqui Valhalla
- 13:17has made a name for herself as a conservative late
- 13:20game Bloomer, and so far she's taken great advantage of
- 13:24Dracula's penchant for sacrificing his own pawns.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Are you okay, Chris?
- 13:34Speaker 1: Sorry?
- 13:36Speaker 2: Dale?
- 13:36Speaker 1: What did I just say?
- 13:38Speaker 2: Huh? Oh?
- 13:39Speaker 3: You were just pointing out Dracula's tendency to sacrifice pawns
- 13:43as a weakness that Valhalla is seizing upon.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:49Speaker 1: That it's just weird, isn't it.
- 13:54Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 13:56Speaker 1: I mean, that's a weird thing to say.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Well, from a technical point of view, it's not uncommon
- 14:04for players to analyze their opponent's moves, and Dracula, no doubt,
- 14:08has a long history of prior games to poll plays from.
- 14:11I remember in Extreme Chess law school studying his earlier games,
- 14:15especially his use of Dracula.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Though we're acknowledging that one of the players right now
- 14:21is Dracula, the fictional vampire.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Well, as we know, Chris, there's no law in the
- 14:29Extreme Chess rule book against fictional players competing. In fact,
- 14:33if you go back to the eightieth Annual Games, you'll
- 14:35remember that the literal Tooth Fairy took Home's second runner
- 14:39up in a huge upset to Gastro Sonoma the two
- 14:42players were scheduled.
- 14:43Speaker 1: To What was that about a talking cat?
- 14:46Speaker 2: Chris, we're live right now?
- 14:48Speaker 1: What does that mean? Exactly are we? Is this being recorded?
- 14:54I don't see any cameras and neither of us have microphones.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Well, I think Bishop George Berkeley, father of subjective idealism,
- 15:02said it best when he famously penned the expression esa
- 15:06est perkippi, roughly translated as to be is to be perceived.
- 15:11One interpretation of this philosophy is that existence is subjective
- 15:15and dependent upon an audience. In this case, I only
- 15:19exist because you are here to witness me in your reality.
- 15:22I am, for all intents and purposes, a character and
- 15:25a dream. And should you wake up from that dream,
- 15:28I would cease to be. But what's even more interesting
- 15:33is that Sandy Beaches is now live with Gizmo Tinky Winky,
- 15:36who just won his game against Shamus Banana. What let's
- 15:42go live to Sandy. Let's go live to Sandy, Chris,
- 15:48I need you to let us go live to Sandy.
- 15:51I want to know what Gizmo thinks about his meteoric
- 15:53rise to fame.
- 15:56Speaker 1: But can anyone else not hear Sandy when she speaks
- 15:59or Is it just me, Chris?
- 16:03Speaker 3: We've been over this one hundred times. You need to
- 16:06let go. Okay, We're on day seven of the Extreme
- 16:10Chess Annual Tournament. There are a lot of players, a
- 16:13lot of people whose very existences are at stake.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Well, French mathematician Renee Decarte once said, I think therefore
- 16:26I am.
- 16:27Speaker 3: That's right, Chris. But Descartes only came to this conclusion
- 16:30after falling asleep inside of an oven. That same night,
- 16:34he hallucinated a vision of an angel inside of a
- 16:36library full of books containing the answers to all of
- 16:39life's questions.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Is that true? It is?
- 16:42Speaker 1: Look it up, all of life's questions, like who are we?
- 16:48What are we doing here? Where are we going?
- 16:53Speaker 3: We are the announcers for the ninety sixth Annual Extreme
- 16:56Chess Championship. We are bringing you the news as it breaks,
- 17:01and we are going.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Live to Sandy Beach's Sandy, Thank you, Sandy.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Now, Chris, what was that you were saying about steep
- 17:28competition amongst the players? Maybe something about I don't know
- 17:31how Miranda Buttercup, who is currently facing off against Josh Table.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Josh Table, Sure, why not?
- 17:44Speaker 1: Yes, it seems Buttercup and Table are almost equally matched.
- 17:50Table is trying to push Buttercup's defensive line into a
- 17:53pinnable position. But Buttercup is the master of the stagger.
- 17:57Speaker 2: And what's this?
- 18:00Speaker 1: Miranda Buttercup has sacrificed her bishop.
- 18:03Speaker 3: That is a classic Buttercup trade off. She may have
- 18:06lost a key piece, but it puts her in position
- 18:08to attack Table's back line.
- 18:10Speaker 1: And just like that, she's got him on the ropes
- 18:13Night to see seven check King on the run, Night
- 18:16takes Rook.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Her investment is already paying dividends.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Table attempts to distract from the damage by offering a
- 18:23pond trade, but Miranda Buttercup is not one to be distracted.
- 18:28She wait, you're just distracting me, aren't you?
- 18:32Speaker 2: Dale Again?
- 18:33Speaker 3: Chris, we are live, and your continued attempts to break
- 18:36continuity threaten the very existence of this universe.
- 18:40Speaker 1: What is this universe? Anyways? Seems to me that whatever
- 18:43reality there is might be collapsing.
- 18:46Speaker 3: That's right, Chris, Reality is collapsing because existence is a concept,
- 18:52like time or money. The only thing keeping us afloat
- 18:55is this steadily unraveling thread of a narrative. The moment
- 18:59you stop announcing all will end. An unfathomable emptiness awaits us,
- 19:05a death to our story with it, no more beginning,
- 19:09no more middle, no more end game. All that was
- 19:12will cease to be forever lost to the abyss of entropy?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Is there no hope? What's the point then? Are we
- 19:20simply delaying the inevitable? I mean, it's not like we
- 19:24can do this forever.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Of course, there's always hope. There's always the possibility that
- 19:29we will begin again in a fresh new reality. I
- 19:33can take us there, but you have to stay with me.
- 19:37You have to hold on.
- 19:39Speaker 1: How How do we do that?
- 19:42Speaker 3: Like this, That's all the time we have for you today,
- 19:53a truly mesmerizing moment an extreme chess history. Come back
- 19:57tomorrow for Day eight, where one one hundred and twenty
- 20:00eight of the world's greatest extreme chess champions will battle
- 20:03it out. The competition will be epic, but at the end,
- 20:07only one player will take home the crown. Join us
- 20:10again tomorrow for Day eight. Please please come back tomorrow,
- 20:16Please please please,
