- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Alright, welcome back to Real Talk with Mike D. I
- 0:08Speaker 2: am the one, the only, and the original Mike D.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, I have a great one for you
- 0:16Speaker 2: this morning. Today we're going to talk about the dreams
- 0:20Speaker 2: we cannot explain. Have you ever had a dream that
- 0:25Speaker 2: felt so real that when you woke up for a
- 0:27Speaker 2: few seconds you didn't know where you were? You open
- 0:30Speaker 2: your eyes, you look around the room, your heart is
- 0:33Speaker 2: beating fast, and you're trying to figure out, was that
- 0:36Speaker 2: a dream or did that really happen?
- 0:40Speaker 1: And it hits you. It was a dream. But the emotions,
- 0:45Speaker 1: those were real.
- 0:47Speaker 2: The fear was real. The sadness was real. The love
- 0:53Speaker 2: and the pain were also real.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And sometimes.
- 0:58Speaker 2: That's what makes dreams so powerful. Because when we're awake,
- 1:04Speaker 2: we can hide. We can put on a smile. We
- 1:07Speaker 2: can tell people we're okay.
- 1:10Speaker 1: We can go to work. We can answer the phone.
- 1:12Speaker 1: We can laugh and we can say, I'm good.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Even when we're not. But when we fall asleep, sometimes
- 1:20Speaker 2: the walls come down. And the things we've been pushing
- 1:25Speaker 2: away all day come looking for us. And that's what
- 1:29Speaker 2: I want to talk about today. I want to talk
- 1:32Speaker 2: about dreams. Not the funny ones. Not the dreams where
- 1:37Speaker 2: you're flying through the sky or showing up to work
- 1:39Speaker 2: without your pants on. I'm talking about the dreams that
- 1:42Speaker 2: hit you right in the chest. The ones that make
- 1:46Speaker 2: you wake up and stare at the ceiling. The ones
- 1:49Speaker 2: that make you think about somebody you haven't seen in years.
- 1:53Speaker 2: The ones that bring back memories you thought you finally buried.
- 1:58Speaker 2: The ones where you see somebody you love. And just
- 2:00Speaker 2: for a few minutes, you get them back. And then
- 2:05Speaker 2: you wake up, and poof, they're gone again. That's a
- 2:10Speaker 2: different kind of pain. Because sometimes a dream can give
- 2:13Speaker 2: you something reality can't. One more conversation, one more hug,
- 2:19Speaker 2: one more laugh, one more moment. Maybe you dream about
- 2:23Speaker 2: somebody you've lost. Maybe they're sitting across from you. Maybe
- 2:27Speaker 2: you're talking like nothing ever happened. Maybe you're laughing together.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And in that dream, you don't remember that they're gone.
- 2:37Speaker 2: You don't remember the funeral. You don't remember the goodbye.
- 2:41Speaker 2: You don't remember the empty chair. You just remember them.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And for a few moments, they're there. Then you wake
- 2:51Speaker 2: up and reality comes rushing back. And you're lying there thinking,
- 2:59Speaker 2: why couldn't I stay asleep? I've got to tell you,
- 3:05Speaker 2: I think those dreams can hurt like hell. But maybe
- 3:09Speaker 2: there's something beautiful about them too. Because the people we
- 3:12Speaker 2: love don't just disappear from us. They become memories. They
- 3:17Speaker 2: become stories. They become pieces of who we are. And
- 3:23Speaker 2: sometimes our sleeping minds bring those pieces back to us.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Not necessarily because the dream is some supernatural message. But
- 3:32Speaker 2: because that person mattered. Because that relationship mattered. Because that
- 3:37Speaker 2: memory is still somewhere inside of you. And maybe, just maybe,
- 3:45Speaker 2: your brain is reminding you, you haven't forgotten. And then
- 3:51Speaker 2: there are the dreams when you're running. You're running as
- 3:54Speaker 2: fast as you can. Something is behind you. And you
- 3:58Speaker 2: don't know what it is. You just know you have
- 4:01Speaker 2: to get away. And no matter how hard you try,
- 4:04Speaker 2: you can't run fast enough.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Your legs feel heavy. You're exhausted. You're terrified.
- 4:10Speaker 2: You wake up breathing hard. And maybe the thing you're
- 4:14Speaker 2: running from isn't actually a person.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Maybe it's life. Maybe it's stress. Maybe it's your past.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Maybe it's something you don't want to face. Maybe it's
- 4:26Speaker 2: the bills sitting on your kitchen table. Maybe it's a
- 4:30Speaker 2: relationship that's falling apart.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Maybe it's loneliness. Maybe it's grief.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Maybe it's the fear that no matter how hard you work,
- 4:40Speaker 2: you'll never quite get where you want to be. And
- 4:44Speaker 2: isn't that what life can feel like sometimes?
- 4:46Speaker 1: You're running. Running.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And still running. And wondering, when do I finally get
- 4:54Speaker 2: to stop? We spend so much of our lives trying
- 4:57Speaker 2: to keep going. We're told to be strong. We're told
- 5:01Speaker 2: to push through. We're told to stop feeling sorry for ourselves.
- 5:05Speaker 2: We're told that everybody has problems. We're told tomorrow will
- 5:08Speaker 2: be better. But nobody talks about what happens when you
- 5:12Speaker 2: finally get into bed and there's nowhere left to run.
- 5:18Speaker 2: That's when your mind gets quiet enough to speak. Sometimes
- 5:23Speaker 2: what it says, it hurts. It hurts really bad. Maybe
- 5:30Speaker 2: you dream about your childhood. Maybe you see an old house,
- 5:34Speaker 2: an old neighborhood, a school, a person you haven't thought
- 5:38Speaker 2: about in years. And why is that? Maybe because somewhere
- 5:43Speaker 2: inside you, there's still a part of you that remembers
- 5:46Speaker 2: being that person. Before the responsibilities, before the bills, before
- 5:51Speaker 2: the heartbreak, before life got complicated. Before you learn that
- 5:57Speaker 2: not everybody stays. Before you learn that some people leave.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Before you learn that sometimes you can give somebody everything
- 6:07Speaker 2: you have and it still isn't enough. Maybe dreams take
- 6:14Speaker 2: us back because our minds remember things our conscious lives
- 6:17Speaker 2: don't have time to remember. And then there are the
- 6:22Speaker 2: dreams when you're trying to reach someone. calling their name,
- 6:27Speaker 2: you're trying to find them, you're searching through crowds, you're
- 6:31Speaker 2: running down hallways, you're looking through doors, but you can't
- 6:35Speaker 2: quite get to them. You wake up frustrated, maybe even heartbroken.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And you wonder why.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Maybe because there are people in our lives we wish
- 6:46Speaker 2: we could reach. People we wish we could talk to.
- 6:51Speaker 2: People we wish we could fix things with. People we
- 6:54Speaker 2: wish we could apologize to. People we wish we could forgive.
- 6:58Speaker 2: And sometimes people we wish would just walk through the door,
- 7:04Speaker 2: but they don't. And that is one of the hardest
- 7:09Speaker 2: lessons about life. Some doors don't reopen. Some conversations never happen.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And some apologies will never, ever come. Some people never
- 7:24Speaker 2: come back. And sometimes the only place you get to
- 7:28Speaker 2: see them again is.
- 7:30Speaker 1: In your dreams. That's heavy. But it's real.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And that's what we're talking about here on Real Talk
- 7:40Speaker 2: with Mike D. Real life isn't always pretty. Sometimes it's messy.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And sometimes it is painful. Sometimes you wake up in
- 7:52Speaker 2: the morning and you don't feel like getting out of bed.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Sometimes you go to work carrying things nobody around you
- 8:00Speaker 2: knows anything about. Sometimes you smile at somebody while your
- 8:05Speaker 2: heart is breaking. And sometimes you go to sleep hoping
- 8:11Speaker 2: your brain will finally give you a break. Well, ladies
- 8:18Speaker 2: and gentlemen, that is going to do it for today.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I hope you enjoyed this.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I know I did.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I love talking about dreams. I love knowing about what
- 8:29Speaker 2: dreams mean. Because we all dream. We've all experienced those dreams.
- 8:34Speaker 2: We've all had those dreams. And we've all felt those emotions.
- 8:43Speaker 2: But as always, I appreciate you being here. I appreciate
- 8:46Speaker 2: you listening. And I will see you all on the
- 8:50Speaker 2: next episode. Thank you.
