- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with i R Radio. It's time for the Almost Famous podcast.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I am in Nashville, Tennessee. I just arrived about ten
- 0:12Speaker 1: minutes ago. Getting ready now for my wedding this Saturday. Yes,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I said last week I didn't know if i'd be
- 0:18Speaker 1: here or not. But I just can't stay away for
- 0:20Speaker 1: that long. I thought two weeks off was too much. Uh.
- 0:24Speaker 1: And Plus, Ashley, I had to hear in person about
- 0:29Speaker 1: your big news. You and Jared have had huge, huge
- 0:33Speaker 1: news this week that I thought, uh that I really
- 0:36Speaker 1: just want to hear about. Oh, it's been a big
- 0:39Speaker 1: week for us. One we have Well, there's two weddings
- 0:43Speaker 1: in our lives this weekend, one being Ben's. Jared has
- 0:46Speaker 1: his other best friends, the one the girl who signed
- 0:50Speaker 1: him up for The Bachelor. That wedding is the day
- 0:52Speaker 1: before in Cancoun and he's just going to be a flying,
- 0:55Speaker 1: crazy mess. Um. I'm not going to Cancoun because I
- 0:59Speaker 1: don't know that would be the best for me in
- 1:02Speaker 1: this third trimester as I approach it. This week, Um,
- 1:06Speaker 1: I'm burying the lead. Jared, I became aunt and uncle
- 1:08Speaker 1: last night. So cute. We haven't met our niece yet though. Yeah,
- 1:14Speaker 1: the COVID restrictions are really strict. It's all like kind
- 1:19Speaker 1: of dependent on hospital and maybe state, I'm not sure,
- 1:22Speaker 1: Like the hospital I'm delivering at, but that's not an issue.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Like my sister and Jared can be in the delivery room,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I can have like one other person, like my parents
- 1:31Speaker 1: can visit, but like at the hospital and she's at
- 1:34Speaker 1: we can't. So babies are just gonna be all over
- 1:38Speaker 1: the placens. Yeah, it's so crazy. We were a trimester apart,
- 1:43Speaker 1: which was really fun. We were like exactly thirteen weeks apart,
- 1:46Speaker 1: which is crazy. Well, congratulations you guys and the Haven family.
- 1:51Speaker 1: That's just um, such a cool deal and what a
- 1:55Speaker 1: thing to celebrate. And then yeah, I have a lot
- 1:59Speaker 1: of love for Jerry um the fact that he's even
- 2:02Speaker 1: trying and he will but he's attempting to make it
- 2:04Speaker 1: to the wedding, which is such a will no attempts here.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I know, It's just cool. It's a big deal that
- 2:10Speaker 1: he's even doing it, and uh, who Jared is right,
- 2:14Speaker 1: very important weddings they are. I get that. But in
- 2:19Speaker 1: the midst of setting up a business, in the midst
- 2:21Speaker 1: of two weddings, He's still gonna make happen. And we
- 2:24Speaker 1: just need to take a second to realize that Jared's
- 2:26Speaker 1: just Jared's is the best, Like he's just a good dude.
- 2:29Speaker 1: He's the best, and he's been working his butt off
- 2:32Speaker 1: so it'll all pay off soon. But yeah, well, tell
- 2:37Speaker 1: me about the opening of the Generous Shop in Soho. Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 1: so we uh there's a shop and in Soho now
- 2:43Speaker 1: on West Broadway. It's I just got back today. Um
- 2:48Speaker 1: it's serving generous coffee. It's called the Good Market. So
- 2:52Speaker 1: the Good Market is a place where thirty different four
- 2:55Speaker 1: purpose brands are being represented underneath one roof. So you
- 2:58Speaker 1: can walk in and you can buy um some of
- 3:01Speaker 1: the brains that you might even know, like Sackcloth and ashes,
- 3:04Speaker 1: an able and Generous Um mud Love, which is a
- 3:08Speaker 1: really popular pottery company out of Worth Sunday and actually
- 3:12Speaker 1: but it's everywhere now and so you can walk in
- 3:13Speaker 1: and buy him. And in the back the Generous coffee
- 3:16Speaker 1: is being served up at the cafe. So go in
- 3:18Speaker 1: and stop if you're in New York City in the
- 3:20Speaker 1: Soho neighborhood and say hey, and then tell him I
- 3:23Speaker 1: sent you. I don't think you get a discount, but
- 3:26Speaker 1: I think you just might get a high five and
- 3:28Speaker 1: that would be worth As we get started today, we
- 3:31Speaker 1: want to mention our batch Bracket rule of the week.
- 3:35Speaker 1: The Batch Bracket rule of the week is for week five,
- 3:38Speaker 1: you get ten plus points every time a contestant is
- 3:42Speaker 1: seen holding Michelle's hand. Oh my goodness, that's gonna be
- 3:46Speaker 1: a lot of points brought out this week. Guys, we
- 3:48Speaker 1: have a very cool guest on the podcast today. His
- 3:51Speaker 1: name is Ben Smith. You may not have um, he
- 3:55Speaker 1: may not have crossed your mind lately, but he was
- 3:57Speaker 1: such a big figure on Tatious season, so we're really
- 4:00Speaker 1: exciting to We're really excited to catch up with him,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and we're going to do so after this break. Okay, guys,
- 4:16Speaker 1: we have Ben Smith on the podcast and it's the
- 4:20Speaker 1: first time even though he was as a prominent contestant
- 4:23Speaker 1: last year on Tatia and Claire season. Ben, Hey, where
- 4:29Speaker 1: have you been? Why haven't you visited us? Well, this
- 4:33Speaker 1: is the first time I've been invited to stop that. No,
- 4:36Speaker 1: they keep that, they keep you guys from us, they
- 4:40Speaker 1: lock you up. I'm happy to be here. I hear
- 4:43Speaker 1: that you're pregnant. The last time I saw you, you
- 4:45Speaker 1: weren't pregnant, and I hear you're pregnant. Now I'm super
- 4:48Speaker 1: much so and it's I miss, I'm pretty miss. I
- 4:52Speaker 1: try not to complain because, like you know, blessed right,
- 4:56Speaker 1: but also just like my body doesn't like it. But
- 5:00Speaker 1: thank you for asking. Yeah, well you've seen your spirits
- 5:03Speaker 1: seem high. That's cool. Thanks. I can fake it for
- 5:06Speaker 1: a while. I just want to let you know that
- 5:08Speaker 1: at one point a couple of weeks ago, I told actually,
- 5:10Speaker 1: she's like beautiful, and she's like, no, I'm not. I like,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I get really triggered by like the glow thing. I
- 5:18Speaker 1: think it's like really toxic for women to have to
- 5:21Speaker 1: like feel like they should glow. No, well, you seem
- 5:24Speaker 1: like you're doing all right, even though it's miserable. Thank you, Ben, congrats,
- 5:27Speaker 1: congrats on your wedding. That seems like a cool thing.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Thank you. Was just a good decision to still record
- 5:32Speaker 1: a podcast to one one day before guests arrive and
- 5:38Speaker 1: ten minutes after entering into Nashville. But that sounds portant,
- 5:41Speaker 1: you are. I appreciate I appreciate it well. To answer
- 5:45Speaker 1: your question, Ashley, I've just been living my life. I
- 5:51Speaker 1: have a business here in Los Angeles, so I've been
- 5:53Speaker 1: pretty you know, stuck working with that. Not stuck, but
- 5:56Speaker 1: I've been pretty focused on building that and the gym
- 5:59Speaker 1: space that I own here in the community that we're
- 6:01Speaker 1: slowly growing. Um, you know, the world starting to open
- 6:04Speaker 1: up a bit again, you know, especially here on the
- 6:06Speaker 1: West Coast, and so we've got this new opportunity to
- 6:08Speaker 1: like finally go full speed with everything. So I've been
- 6:11Speaker 1: I've been pretty committed and uh, you know, focused on that.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So like that's I guess that's the reason why I
- 6:18Speaker 1: haven't haven't come on the show, but also maybe have
- 6:21Speaker 1: been like a little bit m i A. Because I'm
- 6:23Speaker 1: focused on on all the stuff that I've got going
- 6:24Speaker 1: on in my life. So you like jumped into business
- 6:28Speaker 1: entrepreneurship after the show? Was it what you were doing?
- 6:32Speaker 1: The same thing you were doing before the show? Yeahh so,
- 6:35Speaker 1: uh yeah. So for the last couple of years, like
- 6:36Speaker 1: about two years prior to going on the show, I
- 6:38Speaker 1: was working as a strength conditioning coach in l A.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Had a small personal training business than coached for a
- 6:43Speaker 1: family of gym's locally, and then after the show, we
- 6:49Speaker 1: came back to like a quarantined Los Angeles still um
- 6:52Speaker 1: so Jim was still closed. During that process, my now
- 6:56Speaker 1: business partner and I built an online platform for training,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and then through that, once the world started to open
- 7:01Speaker 1: back up again, we like combined what we were doing
- 7:03Speaker 1: digitally with the space we have in Los Angeles and
- 7:06Speaker 1: we actually just rebranded into a into a fully new
- 7:09Speaker 1: thing last month. So it's a new community, new name,
- 7:14Speaker 1: same type of thing. Strange conditioning training for for anyone
- 7:17Speaker 1: that's open to getting better and stronger and feeling better
- 7:20Speaker 1: about themselves. So it's been a really cool thing, but
- 7:23Speaker 1: it takes all my time. So, I mean, my most
- 7:26Speaker 1: burning question is why didn't you go on Bachelor in Paradise?
- 7:30Speaker 1: So I feel like you're dedicated. I hear that's invite
- 7:34Speaker 1: only and stop that now, I know. Now, I'm I'm
- 7:39Speaker 1: really just focused on on all the stuff that I've
- 7:41Speaker 1: got going on here. I don't feel like it's uh,
- 7:44Speaker 1: you know, appropriate to my partner in the community that
- 7:47Speaker 1: we've got to like step away for long periods of
- 7:49Speaker 1: time and and uh, you know, Bachelor production just wasn't
- 7:52Speaker 1: in the cards for me this time. But like you,
- 7:54Speaker 1: but you got the invite, right, I did not come on.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Now that's sucking. That's that's surprising to me. Um, why
- 8:04Speaker 1: do you think that is? Did you talk I mean,
- 8:05Speaker 1: did you talk to anybody? No? I mean I has
- 8:10Speaker 1: been limited with with uh, you know, the people inside
- 8:13Speaker 1: the franchise since leaving the show, but you know, all
- 8:17Speaker 1: on good terms. I'm just I'm focused on my life
- 8:19Speaker 1: and maybe they saw that as a as a thing,
- 8:21Speaker 1: like they know very well that I that I own
- 8:23Speaker 1: a business here and I'm really focused on all the
- 8:25Speaker 1: things that I've got going on in l A. And
- 8:27Speaker 1: you know, maybe it's somebody looking out for me, just
- 8:29Speaker 1: knowing that maybe it's not the right step for me
- 8:31Speaker 1: personally at this time. But but I think you know,
- 8:35Speaker 1: I was kind of joking, but it is invite only,
- 8:37Speaker 1: and I just didn't receive any invitation. I'm truly mind boggled,
- 8:41Speaker 1: as you being the runner up on Tasia's season to
- 8:45Speaker 1: not be invited. There's always gonna be. There's always gonna
- 8:48Speaker 1: be more, right, there is, I guess there is. But
- 8:52Speaker 1: that is surprising to me because it feels like, you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: you weren't the only one this year that we expected
- 8:57Speaker 1: to see at the beach and some people you know,
- 8:59Speaker 1: into it in relationships, and some people maybe decline. I
- 9:03Speaker 1: don't know if any extra buddy actually declined the offer,
- 9:06Speaker 1: but it is support like we expected you to be there.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Like if you were to say, who who's going to
- 9:10Speaker 1: definitely be on that beach, it was you. Um, and
- 9:14Speaker 1: some surprised that the call didn't even happen. I didn't
- 9:16Speaker 1: realize that it was that exclusive. I don't really know.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I don't really know. I've never been. I don't really know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: but yeah, they uh, yeah, just it wasn't for me
- 9:27Speaker 1: this year, and and uh, you know, maybe people have
- 9:29Speaker 1: had enough Ben. You no, never enough Bens. Uh. Now
- 9:34Speaker 1: you wait. Also, I hear Ben from Indiana. I was
- 9:37Speaker 1: going Ben from Indiana. Yeah, so so I'll let you
- 9:43Speaker 1: take that from me. Are Ben's from Indiana? Were Ben's
- 9:48Speaker 1: from Indiana? So? What high school? Did you go to?
- 9:50Speaker 1: Cathedral High School in Indianapolis? Yeah, so I'm from northern Indiana.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I'm I'm glad you represented well. The Midwest is still strong.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But yeah, I saw, I knew that, and then I
- 10:03Speaker 1: reminded that in our in our notes leading up to
- 10:05Speaker 1: the show, is that we're both Hoosiers, um. And if
- 10:08Speaker 1: somebody doesn't know what Whosier is, that is what you
- 10:10Speaker 1: call somebody from Indiana. Because the story goes like this.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Somebody was standing on one side of the Ohio River,
- 10:15Speaker 1: some guy was standing on the other, and they yelled,
- 10:18Speaker 1: who is there? But the guy on the other side,
- 10:20Speaker 1: I thought he was saying, Hohosier. And so we call
- 10:22Speaker 1: ourselves the Hoosiers. That's where this came from. Yeah, it's
- 10:26Speaker 1: very disappointing, actually I know, but it's it's it's who
- 10:29Speaker 1: we are. Oh that's hilarious. Okay, Well, Ben, I have
- 10:36Speaker 1: to play a little like tough question game with you
- 10:38Speaker 1: for a second. If you were to have been in paradise,
- 10:42Speaker 1: like what girls would have been on your list? Who
- 10:44Speaker 1: would you wanted to meet? Who would I want to meet?
- 10:48Speaker 1: And this is and then I want to tell you
- 10:50Speaker 1: this is a good platform to share this because we've
- 10:52Speaker 1: had people say this and then they connect afterwards and
- 10:54Speaker 1: love is blossom. We like to consider ourselves a love
- 10:57Speaker 1: show is as much as a show about the bachelor's um.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Throw your shout out there, man, holy cow, Well, I
- 11:04Speaker 1: have a secret to tell you. I didn't watch a
- 11:06Speaker 1: single episode of Paradise, So I don't even know who
- 11:09Speaker 1: was there, But but who would you wanted, Like, who
- 11:11Speaker 1: would you wanted to have an invite with you from
- 11:14Speaker 1: previous seasons? Man, that's rough. I wasn't really a fan
- 11:18Speaker 1: of the show before going on, so like, you're gonna
- 11:20Speaker 1: throw out names of people that I like, don't really
- 11:22Speaker 1: follow it, don't really pay attention to. But I said
- 11:27Speaker 1: this before. I always thought Demmy was funny. But I
- 11:31Speaker 1: know that she was on. I heard that she was
- 11:32Speaker 1: on this season. Um, I don't know. I Uh, that's
- 11:37Speaker 1: a really hard question. I'm like not giving you a
- 11:39Speaker 1: great answer. No, it's okay. Now we'll we'll flip it
- 11:41Speaker 1: and make it easier. If there was a celebrity and
- 11:43Speaker 1: we were allowed to have celebrities on the island, who
- 11:45Speaker 1: would you bring ye, Sydney Sweeney? Who the heck is
- 11:48Speaker 1: that from Euphoria? Then notice who that is? I know
- 11:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm hoping actually was some that girl from
- 11:59Speaker 1: from Hbos. Oh my god, I'm gonna look her up.
- 12:03Speaker 1: She's the one from White Lotus Voyors. I've never seen
- 12:11Speaker 1: White Lotus, but that's my She's my celebrity crush. But
- 12:15Speaker 1: I get it now, I get it that that's fair
- 12:17Speaker 1: to me. Yeah, that's you know, Ben. If you would
- 12:19Speaker 1: have said if if Ashley and I would um, because
- 12:23Speaker 1: this is this is our podcast. Sometimes we like to
- 12:25Speaker 1: overstep our bounds. And if you would have said, who
- 12:27Speaker 1: would you have set me up with? We love Himmi,
- 12:31Speaker 1: We like Demmis as a human. We just think she's funny. Um,
- 12:35Speaker 1: but it would not have been who first came to
- 12:37Speaker 1: my mind when I thought of you. Well see, you're
- 12:39Speaker 1: gonna tell me people that I wouldn't be thinking like
- 12:42Speaker 1: to be blatantly honest. Nobody's like front of mine right now.
- 12:44Speaker 1: But who would you have set me up? Who would
- 12:46Speaker 1: you have put me with? I mean I would think
- 12:48Speaker 1: you'd be more of like a quiet like um, like
- 12:52Speaker 1: just kind of like like just more like low key person.
- 12:55Speaker 1: So maybe like Serena who ended up with Joe or um,
- 13:01Speaker 1: you know some of these people, like some of the
- 13:04Speaker 1: people that came and went even on this show. Um
- 13:07Speaker 1: somebody maybe that was released a few weeks earlier due
- 13:09Speaker 1: to some controversy. I think you could have seen through
- 13:11Speaker 1: that and been with him. I was going to put
- 13:13Speaker 1: you more with the Serena this year. I thought you'd
- 13:15Speaker 1: be competing for those types. Yeah, like a quieter, less
- 13:19Speaker 1: outspoken but you know you threw out to me even
- 13:22Speaker 1: a Mari maybe like Mari had like the edge to
- 13:25Speaker 1: her because she was like, um, she wasn't like the
- 13:29Speaker 1: loudest or most like known character. Because because she was consistent,
- 13:33Speaker 1: Denny obviously steps onto the beach and makes a name
- 13:37Speaker 1: for herself every time she does. I think it's funny.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Just so this is actually gonna be a funny thing.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So I didn't I didn't watch. I didn't really understand
- 13:46Speaker 1: what the Bachelor Bachelor it was before going on the show.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I didn't understand how did you get there? I was
- 13:53Speaker 1: reached out to randomly. They were like via social media,
- 13:58Speaker 1: which that was my story too. I begged and pleaded.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Not really, I just sent it the most elaborate audition tape.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Actually that surprises me a lot. Actually, wait for real,
- 14:10Speaker 1: are you being sarcastic? You can see her audition video. No,
- 14:15Speaker 1: so I was asked, I was asking on the show, um,
- 14:18Speaker 1: and I like I didn't know, Like I didn't understand
- 14:22Speaker 1: like the gravity of what it was, or like how
- 14:24Speaker 1: deep the fan base was. I just like, was not
- 14:26Speaker 1: you to that fact and I and I wish I
- 14:29Speaker 1: would have known like going on now, like what to
- 14:31Speaker 1: expect coming out of it. Um, it's been a wild,
- 14:37Speaker 1: wild year, a pretty exciting year. Um. But that I
- 14:41Speaker 1: didn't really know who were the characters were, who like
- 14:43Speaker 1: the prominent influential people inside the franchise were. I didn't
- 14:46Speaker 1: really understand any of that. But I did know who
- 14:49Speaker 1: Demi was because one time I randomly came across the
- 14:51Speaker 1: video of her like just saying some outlandish on the internet,
- 14:55Speaker 1: and I thought it was hilarious, And so she was
- 14:58Speaker 1: really the only person that I knew inside of franchise
- 15:00Speaker 1: before going on. Um, But yeah, it's been a really
- 15:03Speaker 1: cool experience. Everyone's been super nice and like really warm
- 15:06Speaker 1: and accepting inside. So it's been it's been really great
- 15:09Speaker 1: to meet people like you and everyone else that I've
- 15:11Speaker 1: come across. Since then, I gotta pause you here, Yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 1: was that a lion that just walked through your background?
- 15:18Speaker 1: Because something massive that semi looked like a house cat
- 15:21Speaker 1: just came across your back. It's a cat. I'm at
- 15:24Speaker 1: a friend's house and she's got a cat and a
- 15:26Speaker 1: huge dog. The dog's out for a walk, but it's
- 15:29Speaker 1: a I think I don't know where she went. Yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 1: it's a big, big cat, Holy Holy anyway, is it
- 15:36Speaker 1: a friend's house or is it a girl friend's house?
- 15:38Speaker 1: These are the questions. It is a friend's house. I'm
- 15:41Speaker 1: right down the street. My gym's in West Hollywood, but
- 15:43Speaker 1: I live in Venice, and so that's an exhausting continute.
- 15:48Speaker 1: It's unreal and so um the gym's of mathouse right now.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So I just walked down the street to a friend's house,
- 15:55Speaker 1: and I'm just taking the call from inside her house,
- 15:57Speaker 1: which is like, really nice. I think it's really not.
- 16:00Speaker 1: When she left, I said, people are going to think
- 16:02Speaker 1: that this is my home and decorated I was gonna say.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I was like, then I understand why I didn't get
- 16:08Speaker 1: a Bachelor in Paradise because the businesses obviously didn't quite spectacularly.
- 16:13Speaker 1: We're doing all right. I don't know's it's been a
- 16:15Speaker 1: cool it's been a cool thing. Um, but I do
- 16:17Speaker 1: appreciate you saying that, like, maybe someone a little bit
- 16:20Speaker 1: quieter would be my style. I think I don't know. Um,
- 16:25Speaker 1: I don't know. I've dated all types of girls before
- 16:27Speaker 1: I and I I'm generally pretty reserved like, I'm pretty calm,
- 16:33Speaker 1: but I think like having a little spice is fun.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So like, yeah, I don't know, Yeah, I get it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I mean I'm getting married on Saturday, and I'm married
- 16:42Speaker 1: a girl who definitely is more reserved and quiet. But
- 16:46Speaker 1: every once in a while you a little spice and
- 16:47Speaker 1: that spices shockingly entertaining. It makes his life of that.
- 16:52Speaker 1: H Then you know, one of the things that wasn't
- 16:55Speaker 1: mentioned enough, ah right or wrong on the show was
- 17:00Speaker 1: your background being, um an Army ranger. Yeah, so do
- 17:04Speaker 1: you mind explaining that little bit? Yeah? So, um, that's
- 17:07Speaker 1: a typo from that. That's an insane thing that happened.
- 17:11Speaker 1: So I'm ranger qualified. So I graduated from Army Ranger
- 17:14Speaker 1: School in chazz and fourteen. Um. The Army Rangers specifically
- 17:18Speaker 1: is like a very elite small unit of Army Army
- 17:21Speaker 1: Special Operations. Although I was a graduate of the school,
- 17:23Speaker 1: I never served in that unit, the range of Regiment. Um,
- 17:27Speaker 1: so that was like a huge thing. Initially. You'll notice
- 17:29Speaker 1: that the wording was switched on the show, um like
- 17:32Speaker 1: by episode two because I was like, yeah, I can't
- 17:35Speaker 1: say this. Um. Yeah, I graduated the course in Chazz
- 17:39Speaker 1: and fourteen ranger qualified. My job was artillery, so I
- 17:42Speaker 1: shot cannons and rockets and missiles for the majority of
- 17:46Speaker 1: my career, but that that experience was incredibly profound for me.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I ended up like getting hurt about seven years in
- 17:54Speaker 1: almost seven years into my service and decided that it
- 17:57Speaker 1: was right for me to leave um and and it's
- 18:00Speaker 1: really like helped me not only in the profession that
- 18:02Speaker 1: I have now been in fitness, just because fitness is
- 18:05Speaker 1: such an integral part of that job in that life,
- 18:08Speaker 1: but the thing that I love most or the thing
- 18:11Speaker 1: that I love most was soldiers, and it gave me
- 18:12Speaker 1: this incredible opportunity to like mold and shape young young soldiers,
- 18:16Speaker 1: which was like really cool. And now I kind of
- 18:18Speaker 1: get to do that in a weird like adjacent way
- 18:20Speaker 1: with the people that are a part of our gym.
- 18:23Speaker 1: So it's been really cool for me. And that experience
- 18:25Speaker 1: was the best thing I've ever done, so I really
- 18:29Speaker 1: enjoyed it. Your panic out when you saw on your
- 18:32Speaker 1: list Army Ranger was like, oh crap, because you know, yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 1: but I know what I know what it means. Yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 1: I know, yeah, I know. It was unfortunate to me
- 18:41Speaker 1: because like knowing what that means and then also like
- 18:44Speaker 1: having limited control over what gets shown. I mean, you
- 18:46Speaker 1: could both have been through the experience like they're the product.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Like everyone's intentions are great and good, but things can
- 18:55Speaker 1: be you know, like misconstrued or misunderstood. And there were
- 19:00Speaker 1: response from that community specifically, or the army community military
- 19:03Speaker 1: community specifically. It was pretty resounding. And these are the
- 19:06Speaker 1: people that I love most and care about most and
- 19:08Speaker 1: don't want to offend most, and so, uh, starting off
- 19:12Speaker 1: on week one with that response from the community that
- 19:15Speaker 1: I'm I'm in love with was like pretty rough and
- 19:18Speaker 1: it kind of set it kind of set the tone
- 19:20Speaker 1: for like a less than awesome experience during the airing
- 19:25Speaker 1: of the show. You know, but but yeah, I mean people,
- 19:31Speaker 1: things happen, and it was easily rectified. And the people
- 19:33Speaker 1: that I needed to explain this too, like they heard
- 19:36Speaker 1: it and they got an explanation. Was all was all
- 19:39Speaker 1: the issue because of the title. Yeah, It's just like
- 19:42Speaker 1: it's a very specific thing that you just like shouldn't
- 19:45Speaker 1: say if you're not a part of this small group.
- 19:48Speaker 1: And so it was fixed almost immediately. I just called
- 19:51Speaker 1: someone on the team, was like, Hey, this can't be
- 19:53Speaker 1: this way. I know that it's like supposed to be.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Like it's also like add value to my character or
- 19:58Speaker 1: like the person that I'm portraying, but like it can't
- 20:00Speaker 1: be display and so it was an easy to fix
- 20:02Speaker 1: and then uh uh, you know, it doesn't really come
- 20:05Speaker 1: up because it's it was a massive part of my life.
- 20:07Speaker 1: But like since I've left the military, it's become just
- 20:09Speaker 1: a thing that I was. It's not it's not a
- 20:11Speaker 1: thing that I am anymore, you know. I think some
- 20:14Speaker 1: people see that differently, But like I was a soldier
- 20:16Speaker 1: for a long time and I had an incredible experience
- 20:18Speaker 1: and it shaped me in ways that I could like
- 20:20Speaker 1: never replicate in any other way. But like now I
- 20:23Speaker 1: do another thing, and uh, I'm excited for the opportunity
- 20:27Speaker 1: to step out of that life and into something new.
- 20:29Speaker 1: When you talk about how you used your experience there
- 20:32Speaker 1: with training and you know with the gym, you were
- 20:36Speaker 1: also super vulnerable and it was really I don't want
- 20:40Speaker 1: to say it was cool to get a guy's perspective
- 20:43Speaker 1: on an eating disorder, but it was just something that
- 20:46Speaker 1: we don't ever talk about, but it affects a lot
- 20:49Speaker 1: of men. So it was just it was it was
- 20:52Speaker 1: nice to get out there. So how do you do that?
- 20:55Speaker 1: Because you do work in the fitness and the wellness industry,
- 20:59Speaker 1: Like you're surrounded by food all the time. Um, you
- 21:03Speaker 1: probably think about nutrition all the time. So my job
- 21:07Speaker 1: before owning the gym and coaching like fitness per se
- 21:10Speaker 1: or strength being a strength coach, I coached nutrition and
- 21:13Speaker 1: I was ah working with people who were struggling with
- 21:16Speaker 1: similar things that I dealt with. Sharing that with Tasia
- 21:19Speaker 1: on the show wasn't like a weird thing for me,
- 21:21Speaker 1: Like I didn't really understand that it would have such
- 21:23Speaker 1: a big impact. I It's a thing that I use
- 21:25Speaker 1: in my business every day. So I'm like, you know,
- 21:28Speaker 1: these are my experiences, and I hope that I can
- 21:30Speaker 1: like you know, share in yours and like I work
- 21:33Speaker 1: intimately with it with a small group of of clients,
- 21:36Speaker 1: uh specifically with like eating disorder type things or like
- 21:39Speaker 1: building healthy relationships of food, uh you know currently. But
- 21:43Speaker 1: but the career that I had going into the show
- 21:45Speaker 1: incorporated a lot of my own experience, and so sharing
- 21:47Speaker 1: that with her it was just like me just being
- 21:52Speaker 1: open like that wasn't a scary thing for me. There's
- 21:54Speaker 1: other things I talked about on the show that like
- 21:56Speaker 1: we're much larger and much scarier and far more impactful
- 22:01Speaker 1: or or like traumatizing for me to share. But that
- 22:03Speaker 1: experience with my eating disorder was just something that I
- 22:06Speaker 1: openly talked about here in the community that I coach
- 22:09Speaker 1: in now and before. And so I'm happy that, like
- 22:12Speaker 1: I started the conversation, and I'm happy that since the show,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I've been able to talk openly about it in other
- 22:18Speaker 1: venues and on other platforms. And and I said this
- 22:21Speaker 1: the whole time, if I'm able to just like maybe
- 22:22Speaker 1: bring light to a situation that makes someone else feel
- 22:24Speaker 1: a little bit less unheard or unseen or less understood
- 22:29Speaker 1: than I can, Like, I feel good about everything that
- 22:32Speaker 1: that's happened so far. So definitely did that I know
- 22:34Speaker 1: that's happened, and I know, and it's been really cool. Uh,
- 22:39Speaker 1: Like a guy that looks like me, or a guy
- 22:40Speaker 1: that does the job that I do, or you know,
- 22:42Speaker 1: there's all these like preconceptions about who I am and
- 22:44Speaker 1: what I am, and it was nice to share just
- 22:48Speaker 1: a little bit of myself on the show. I know
- 22:49Speaker 1: it's like you see one percent of one percent of
- 22:51Speaker 1: what I am, and then after the fact you see
- 22:55Speaker 1: what I care to show, you know, like via social
- 22:57Speaker 1: media or in like an interview like this, and so
- 22:59Speaker 1: people never get the full picture. But I am really
- 23:01Speaker 1: thankful that like a small part, a really valuable part,
- 23:04Speaker 1: was able to be shared with a lot of people.
- 23:06Speaker 1: So that's been really cool. Talk me through. It's always
- 23:09Speaker 1: interesting to to Ashley and I, um talk me through
- 23:14Speaker 1: the moment that you decided to open up about this
- 23:19Speaker 1: um and walk out butt naked on national television on
- 23:23Speaker 1: a date. So obviously this is a okay, So like
- 23:27Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna set up this a little bit. So
- 23:30Speaker 1: like you have this thing that you know is going
- 23:34Speaker 1: to be an important conversation to be had, and you
- 23:37Speaker 1: know that you are at this point ready to talk
- 23:40Speaker 1: about it, and you're getting prepped for this date, and
- 23:44Speaker 1: at some point you decided this is the way it's
- 23:46Speaker 1: going to happen. I and like take away everything else,
- 23:52Speaker 1: But you can't really do but take away everything else,
- 23:54Speaker 1: like the courage to just do that. In general, like
- 23:55Speaker 1: nowadays we're seeing more and more people come out on
- 23:57Speaker 1: this show naked. I would have never been it. I
- 24:03Speaker 1: just I don't have that confidence. I guess yeah, like
- 24:06Speaker 1: walks through that behind the scenes for for everybody listening. So, um,
- 24:10Speaker 1: I can like set the scene, but the date, it's
- 24:13Speaker 1: an art specific date. We're expressing ourselves through like different mediums,
- 24:18Speaker 1: ones like clay. There's a charcoal painting expression, and there's
- 24:22Speaker 1: some other stuff that's going on. And the final portion
- 24:25Speaker 1: of the date is a self portrait. And I'm not
- 24:27Speaker 1: good at drawing, and I'm pretty okay like expressing myself verbally,
- 24:32Speaker 1: but I I wanted it to be like impactful and
- 24:35Speaker 1: like some grand gesture. I think maybe I struggle with
- 24:40Speaker 1: like I struggle with opening up sometimes. But the eating
- 24:45Speaker 1: disorder and that date were or or sharing that I
- 24:48Speaker 1: had and eating disorder for a long time and that
- 24:50Speaker 1: date were like mutually exclusive. Like the thing with getting
- 24:53Speaker 1: naked was a thing that like I'm comfortable doing. I
- 24:56Speaker 1: if you ask them, if you called my mom and said,
- 24:58Speaker 1: you know, what is Ben's deal, He's always naked, to
- 25:01Speaker 1: be like, yeah, he's been doing that since he was
- 25:02Speaker 1: a baby. Um, the eating disorder wasn't about me being
- 25:05Speaker 1: uncomfortable in my body. It was more of a control thing.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Like I uh, like someone who like turns to alcohol.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I turned to food. It was a numbing agent. It
- 25:13Speaker 1: kept me safe in times where I felt like I
- 25:16Speaker 1: wasn't safe. And so that's what the eating disorder was
- 25:18Speaker 1: for me. Um fueled by my childhood, fueled by my
- 25:21Speaker 1: experience in the military, fueled by a ton of things
- 25:23Speaker 1: that made me feel really out of control. And food
- 25:26Speaker 1: was something that I could control explicitly. And so that's
- 25:29Speaker 1: that's where the eating disorder came from. But the the
- 25:31Speaker 1: being naked thing was I was in a room full
- 25:33Speaker 1: of guys who felt the same way about this woman
- 25:36Speaker 1: that I did, and I knew that they were all
- 25:39Speaker 1: going to do something artistic in the form of like
- 25:43Speaker 1: a sculpture or a painting or a whatever. And immediately
- 25:46Speaker 1: my brain turns to, oh, Ben, just like take your
- 25:47Speaker 1: clothes off and that will be the thing that like
- 25:49Speaker 1: it's like, oh he did something big. Um. But I
- 25:53Speaker 1: was so terrified that it was going to be like
- 25:55Speaker 1: everybody in the rooms like, oh my god, there's a butt,
- 25:56Speaker 1: Like look you see his butt over there, and like
- 25:58Speaker 1: unfortunately that kind of what happened except for Tasia, And
- 26:03Speaker 1: so in that moment, I was able to stand there like, yeah,
- 26:06Speaker 1: being naked, like doesn't it doesn't scare me. So like
- 26:08Speaker 1: I'm naked there, I got everybody's attention, and then I
- 26:11Speaker 1: was able to have a real conversation with her, and
- 26:12Speaker 1: I said, I said. All I said was like, look,
- 26:15Speaker 1: you see a physical thing here. You see my body,
- 26:18Speaker 1: you see my face, you see my hair. But there's
- 26:20Speaker 1: so much underneath here, and there's so much underneath that
- 26:22Speaker 1: I haven't shared with anybody, and I'm so excited for
- 26:24Speaker 1: you to be the one that like uncovers that. And
- 26:27Speaker 1: so I can't remember exactly what I said, but it
- 26:29Speaker 1: was something along on along the lines of like you've
- 26:31Speaker 1: got this physical being, but you've also got everything inside
- 26:34Speaker 1: and and it was impactful. And I don't know that
- 26:37Speaker 1: I can't remember exactly what they showed, but it was
- 26:39Speaker 1: that conversation and like it was this meaningful moment together
- 26:42Speaker 1: where we I think, like the relationship took you know,
- 26:45Speaker 1: a different turn or a different step um and getting
- 26:49Speaker 1: naked just happened to be the like the flash that
- 26:52Speaker 1: like allowed the moment to have, you know, I just
- 26:54Speaker 1: I was trying to create something, show this grand gesture
- 26:57Speaker 1: and then tell her something really mean, meaningful and like
- 27:00Speaker 1: it's miss that's that's interpreted a million different ways by
- 27:03Speaker 1: a million different people, like, oh, but I just wants
- 27:05Speaker 1: to show off as Wiener in front of the room.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I'm like, no, I don't know. No, I just wanted
- 27:10Speaker 1: it to be something where people she specifically would remember, Yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 1: you mentioned a couple of times basically what you get
- 27:17Speaker 1: to see like such a small part of your personality
- 27:20Speaker 1: like one percent? Um, what was looking back on your experience,
- 27:25Speaker 1: like the most frustrating part of your storyline that only
- 27:28Speaker 1: got shown one percent? Yeah, there's two parts of this.
- 27:36Speaker 1: So my biggest fear going in was that nobody would
- 27:39Speaker 1: understand my humor, like a pretty dry sense of humor, um,
- 27:44Speaker 1: like a a bit eclectic, Like I'm just my humor
- 27:47Speaker 1: is different than than most of the people I interact with,
- 27:50Speaker 1: but like, I think it's funny as hell. So I
- 27:53Speaker 1: was concerned that I would go on this show and
- 27:55Speaker 1: I would be myself and people would misunderstand my humor
- 27:59Speaker 1: and be like, oh, what's the dudes deal. It only
- 28:03Speaker 1: got shown once. There was like a roast date where
- 28:06Speaker 1: we got to like roast everybody and I stopped there
- 28:08Speaker 1: and just had a ton of material and little bits
- 28:11Speaker 1: of it were shown. But that was the only time
- 28:14Speaker 1: I ever got to be funny on the on the program,
- 28:16Speaker 1: and so like I dodged able it. They're where like
- 28:19Speaker 1: they never even showed me being funny, so like never
- 28:21Speaker 1: never got to be interpreted that was never part of
- 28:23Speaker 1: your character. Yeah, But but like I was, you know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I'm not frustrated by any part of the experience because
- 28:31Speaker 1: it's given me things I could have never even hoped for,
- 28:34Speaker 1: which is so incredible, namely this platform to like talk
- 28:37Speaker 1: about the stuff that's really important to me. Um, but
- 28:41Speaker 1: I was a bit frustrated by the narrative that like
- 28:44Speaker 1: I can't express myself emotionally or that I'm a poor communicator.
- 28:48Speaker 1: And you know, I think there's like a level of
- 28:52Speaker 1: empathy from the viewership or from the people that are
- 28:56Speaker 1: like interpreting this thing where you're like, this is not
- 28:58Speaker 1: a real life experience. This is like real life intensified
- 29:02Speaker 1: a millionfold, and so the way that you might normally
- 29:05Speaker 1: act or the way that you might normally respond in
- 29:07Speaker 1: the situation might not happen on the TV screen. And
- 29:13Speaker 1: so if I had any frustration to feel that, like,
- 29:16Speaker 1: you know, I think that I'm an okay communicator, I
- 29:20Speaker 1: wouldn't say I'm great, but I not for lack of trying.
- 29:24Speaker 1: You know, some things weren't said or some things weren't
- 29:25Speaker 1: shared in the moment, but like looking back, it was
- 29:29Speaker 1: stressful as hell and so um, you know, people interpret
- 29:34Speaker 1: everything the way that they want to interpret it. But
- 29:35Speaker 1: like I am, I'm more than just the guy who
- 29:41Speaker 1: can't share his feelings, you know. And that was like
- 29:44Speaker 1: a bit frustrating trying to say that in the most
- 29:49Speaker 1: the best way. But yeah, I'm more than that guy.
- 29:52Speaker 1: So we are in the in the final minutes here seconds,
- 29:57Speaker 1: maybe would you um and I want at the end
- 30:01Speaker 1: here um actuley And I was like, if if you
- 30:04Speaker 1: kind of um publicize what you're up to, you know,
- 30:07Speaker 1: your Jim's name, how people can join you all that stuff.
- 30:10Speaker 1: But I do have a question kind of bouncing off
- 30:12Speaker 1: of what you just said. So if your storyline true,
- 30:17Speaker 1: not good or bad, was that you you lacked your
- 30:20Speaker 1: ability to communicate? Um, what was it about your moment
- 30:25Speaker 1: with Tasha where all the other guys um laughed, shocked,
- 30:31Speaker 1: said look at his butt? And she said, what was
- 30:36Speaker 1: it about Tassia that allowed her to see something more?
- 30:39Speaker 1: She was the one person that roomed that said, I,
- 30:41Speaker 1: I understand what he's doing. Why was that in your opinion? Well,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I think all I think, um, I'll gas taste up
- 30:50Speaker 1: here a bit. I think she's an incredible listener, at
- 30:53Speaker 1: least in our experience, was an incredible listener, and she
- 30:56Speaker 1: was able to see, uh, the intention behind what was
- 31:01Speaker 1: going on. And so you know, I'll give her all
- 31:04Speaker 1: the credit in that. But like in a moment where
- 31:06Speaker 1: it's chaotic, there's a bunch of people in the room,
- 31:08Speaker 1: there's eight other guys or ten other guys, or however
- 31:11Speaker 1: many it was, she gave me the space, she gave
- 31:15Speaker 1: me the spotlight to like share a thing. And I'll
- 31:20Speaker 1: say that she was never distracted. I mean, as you've
- 31:22Speaker 1: been the lead before and I'm sure there's like a
- 31:24Speaker 1: million things going through your head at all times. But
- 31:28Speaker 1: what allowed me to share that with her and allowed
- 31:30Speaker 1: her to receive that is there was no distraction for her.
- 31:32Speaker 1: She was totally focused on me, and in that moment,
- 31:34Speaker 1: I was totally focused on her, and it was I
- 31:39Speaker 1: was grateful then. I'm grateful now that like I had
- 31:41Speaker 1: this opportunity to share all these things with her and
- 31:45Speaker 1: for like probably the first time in a romantic relationship
- 31:50Speaker 1: in my life. I felt hurt, I felt listened to,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I felt seen, which was really exceptional. And it also like,
- 31:56Speaker 1: even though things didn't pan out in that relationship, it
- 31:59Speaker 1: lets me know that, like there is an opportunity for
- 32:02Speaker 1: that later in my life, which is really really cool. Um.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I went into the experience, I'll like elaborate just a
- 32:08Speaker 1: little bit more. I I went into the experience with
- 32:10Speaker 1: like three intentions. One was to like maybe meet a
- 32:14Speaker 1: really cool girl and have a relationship with her. The
- 32:17Speaker 1: second was to learn something about myself, and then the
- 32:20Speaker 1: third was, even if a relationship didn't materialize, to like
- 32:23Speaker 1: have faith in myself in a relationship in the future,
- 32:26Speaker 1: and also like restore my faith in women or in
- 32:31Speaker 1: my partner, you know, my future partner. And I think
- 32:33Speaker 1: all three of those things happened, which is really cool. Um.
- 32:37Speaker 1: You know, it goes the way that it goes, and
- 32:40Speaker 1: I'm just really grateful for her listening to me, for
- 32:42Speaker 1: her creating space for me to share my story, and
- 32:44Speaker 1: then for the opportunity that's come on the back end,
- 32:48Speaker 1: which has been really special and incredible. No, well, after
- 32:53Speaker 1: this half an hour conversation, now I really want to
- 32:55Speaker 1: see more of you on our TV. Well, you know,
- 32:59Speaker 1: maybe that happens later, okay man. Also, you're making me
- 33:04Speaker 1: want you to be the Bachelor because this Clayton guy
- 33:07Speaker 1: is so boring. I know nothing about him, but I
- 33:12Speaker 1: heard that he's really tall and has big muscles. Sure,
- 33:15Speaker 1: but that doesn't cut it. Well, I have the same
- 33:19Speaker 1: thing for me. Yeah, look at Ben, you know what
- 33:22Speaker 1: I mean, really tall, huge muscles, and Benny's the Bachelor.
- 33:26Speaker 1: That's That's just not all Ben either. He just has
- 33:29Speaker 1: so many more things about that. That's the one person
- 33:32Speaker 1: I remember. Ben, You Ben both Ben from Indiana, Ben Smith.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I just want to wrap up with two like really
- 33:41Speaker 1: silly questions about some guys that made some splashy, splashy
- 33:46Speaker 1: headlines since your time with them on your season. There's
- 33:50Speaker 1: Blake Moins. Uh, what do you think about everything that's
- 33:54Speaker 1: gone down with him over the past nine months? Well,
- 33:57Speaker 1: so I didn't even realize that he was going back
- 34:01Speaker 1: on the show, Like I didn't you And and then
- 34:04Speaker 1: I see all these like people send me like Instagram
- 34:07Speaker 1: stuff all the time, but I see all these things
- 34:09Speaker 1: like he's back on the show. I think the video
- 34:10Speaker 1: was like him holding a thing, holding a boom box
- 34:13Speaker 1: in the street, which is kind of funny. So you
- 34:16Speaker 1: haven't kept in touch, I suppose not not really, not
- 34:18Speaker 1: really no, Um, you know, I think there was like
- 34:21Speaker 1: talk with maybe doing some like philanthropic thing where we
- 34:24Speaker 1: like go to Africa and we do great stuff for
- 34:26Speaker 1: rhinos and other wildlife, but we really haven't communicated much
- 34:31Speaker 1: since then. I heard that he just broke up with Katie.
- 34:34Speaker 1: I I don't know the specifics on that, but I
- 34:37Speaker 1: heard that that happened, and I hope that they're both
- 34:38Speaker 1: doing all right. Um, I should probably reach out to him.
- 34:42Speaker 1: And and then there's Brandon, who you're Brendan, who you're
- 34:45Speaker 1: with the entire time on tatious season, and he was
- 34:50Speaker 1: a little sketch ball down in Paradise. Was that at
- 34:52Speaker 1: all surprising for you? I was very taken aback. Again,
- 34:56Speaker 1: I like didn't watch Paradise. I feel he's saying that
- 35:00Speaker 1: is like you guys right, Uh, yes, I didn't watch anything.
- 35:07Speaker 1: But like just the same way with Blake, I've heard
- 35:09Speaker 1: tons of stuff. Um, you know, Brennan has visited me
- 35:13Speaker 1: in Los Angeles at the gym, so I was very
- 35:16Speaker 1: you know, we we were close on our season together. Um,
- 35:20Speaker 1: he's come and visit me in Los Angeles. I was
- 35:23Speaker 1: incredibly surprised by what not only what he said, but
- 35:27Speaker 1: but what has been said, you know, in response to
- 35:30Speaker 1: all the things. And and I hope for his sake
- 35:33Speaker 1: that he's doing okay. And I hope that like everyone
- 35:35Speaker 1: else affected by everything that's gone on, is also doing okay.
- 35:38Speaker 1: It's it's just such a crazy deal telling you what.
- 35:44Speaker 1: These characters come out at some point. So here's a
- 35:49Speaker 1: here's the funny thing. I had a boss early on,
- 35:52Speaker 1: and what did he say. He said, you can fool
- 35:54Speaker 1: everybody for a little bit, but you can't fool anybody forever.
- 36:00Speaker 1: It's good everybody for a little bit, but you can't
- 36:02Speaker 1: fool everybody forever. So atually, when your life is televised,
- 36:07Speaker 1: it's kind of hard. Whenever there's cameras and microphones all
- 36:12Speaker 1: the time, Yeah, all the time, like not even just
- 36:15Speaker 1: have all of the time. Yeah, it's wild to me.
- 36:18Speaker 1: So it's always been shocking, is the things people decided
- 36:21Speaker 1: to say they're gonna get away with it. They never do.
- 36:24Speaker 1: They never do. It's always the thing that's shown. Actually,
- 36:27Speaker 1: I can think of a time or two people didn't
- 36:29Speaker 1: get away with it, but we won't go there. Yeah, um, Ben,
- 36:34Speaker 1: as we say goodbye to you. If you can't just
- 36:36Speaker 1: get like a twenty minute plug, twenty second plug. You're
- 36:43Speaker 1: commercial for everything you're up to, where people can find you,
- 36:47Speaker 1: how they can support you. Yeah, I really appreciate it.
- 36:50Speaker 1: My name's Ben Smith. I live in Venice Beach, California.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I own a gym called Rodeo Athletic at Rodeo r
- 36:57Speaker 1: O d e O Athletic, we are in West Hollywood, California.
- 37:02Speaker 1: My social media is at Ben V Smith B N
- 37:05Speaker 1: V E S M I T h UM. If you're
- 37:09Speaker 1: into feeling really good about yourself and about the life
- 37:12Speaker 1: that you're currently living, follow along and I'll relate to
- 37:16Speaker 1: on there. Sweet go check out Rodeo Athletic. Ben Smith,
- 37:21Speaker 1: thanks for coming almost for his podcast. It's been a pleasure,
- 37:24Speaker 1: and thanks for joining us for the first time. Every Yeah, well,
- 37:40Speaker 1: it's great to have been Smith on the episode. It
- 37:42Speaker 1: is good to hear from him. It's been a while.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I am shocked actually that he was not invited to
- 37:48Speaker 1: Paradise weird. Do you know what it reminds me of? What? Um?
- 37:55Speaker 1: Remember Peter from Rachel's season when he didn't get invited
- 37:59Speaker 1: back to any thing else. Well, yeah, but I think
- 38:04Speaker 1: that that was more like Peter's decision making right, It
- 38:08Speaker 1: wasn't that, more like negotiations didn't exactly go the best
- 38:13Speaker 1: like they wanted him, but like he had you know. Yeah,
- 38:20Speaker 1: well it's still shocking. It was great to have been on. Hey. Actually,
- 38:24Speaker 1: before we do this week's breakdown of the episode, I
- 38:26Speaker 1: want to say thank you to everybody. I'm not gonna
- 38:29Speaker 1: be able to respond to everybody because it's been a
- 38:31Speaker 1: lot who sent advice or info on a ls are
- 38:36Speaker 1: our fan base. Actually, like I've never asked anything of
- 38:40Speaker 1: anybody that I've gotten a bigger response to. Well, that's
- 38:45Speaker 1: so so good to hear, and I'm reading them all,
- 38:48Speaker 1: but like it's impossible to I know, sometimes when you
- 38:52Speaker 1: open up about something, you get the most incredible responses
- 38:57Speaker 1: and you do end up reading them all, but then
- 38:59Speaker 1: you have a sense of being overwhelmed that you can't
- 39:02Speaker 1: thank people enough. Yeah, so like just you guys, just
- 39:07Speaker 1: let we just want to let you know that, like
- 39:09Speaker 1: we appreciate everything that you send us and we really
- 39:14Speaker 1: do try to read it all. We're so sorry we
- 39:15Speaker 1: can't respond to it all, definitely, And then this side
- 39:18Speaker 1: is I don't want, you know, Brandon Sam to be
- 39:20Speaker 1: overwhelmed either, like you know, and so we're filtering through stuff.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I have somebody always going through the emails and the
- 39:27Speaker 1: d m s, like you know, gathering information, sending it
- 39:30Speaker 1: off to me or them when it feels helpful. But
- 39:32Speaker 1: just like people are awesome. So that's you know, that's something,
- 39:35Speaker 1: UM that I just want to sit on. Well, hey, uh,
- 39:38Speaker 1: it is time to break down another episode of Michelle's
- 39:40Speaker 1: season Ashley. To get us started, I think it would
- 39:45Speaker 1: be helpful, um to share overarching thoughts so far leading
- 39:50Speaker 1: up to this and then even after this episode, and
- 39:52Speaker 1: we go step by step in chronological order. Here's my thoughts.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Clinton still did not shine and I'm shocked. Why. Uh,
- 40:00Speaker 1: It's just I'm waiting for him to explode as a
- 40:04Speaker 1: main character, and it just doesn't feel like it's happening
- 40:06Speaker 1: to me. I don't think it's gonna happen. You don't
- 40:08Speaker 1: think it's gonna happen. No, I I don't know what
- 40:11Speaker 1: they were thinking. I don't even think that there's anything
- 40:14Speaker 1: he can do to make me in gross in him
- 40:18Speaker 1: right now? Well, you would expect him to have a
- 40:20Speaker 1: few more episodes laugh, and it just takes one like
- 40:23Speaker 1: that's what world not. It just takes one episode to
- 40:25Speaker 1: really like change the narrative. But at this point I
- 40:29Speaker 1: am surprised because they need they need a good Bachelor's season.
- 40:33Speaker 1: They need a compelling lead. They need somebody that like
- 40:36Speaker 1: the audience rally behind, and I actually thought, like, this
- 40:39Speaker 1: is gonna be that guy. They haven't had it in
- 40:41Speaker 1: a while. Um, you know, I thought, oh, this is
- 40:45Speaker 1: this is the reason they chose him so early is
- 40:47Speaker 1: because they think this guy is gonna steal the hearts
- 40:50Speaker 1: of America and uh and so far we just don't
- 40:53Speaker 1: know anything about him, Like he's just there. But like
- 40:56Speaker 1: there's guys on the season, like the Nates of the
- 40:58Speaker 1: world and the Joes of the world and the Rodney's
- 41:01Speaker 1: of the world that are like, in my opinion, people
- 41:04Speaker 1: are rallied behind, like they're like, oh, this is good, this,
- 41:07Speaker 1: this is good stuff. Like these guys could do it. Yeah,
- 41:11Speaker 1: He's there's definitely better options. But I have to say, overall,
- 41:15Speaker 1: because you did want my macro opinion, then these guys
- 41:21Speaker 1: are good enough for my show. I'm like obsessed with her.
- 41:24Speaker 1: She's so cool and so pretty, and I just feel
- 41:29Speaker 1: very underwhelmed by the group in general. Um that's a
- 41:34Speaker 1: fair statement, because I do think she is in a
- 41:36Speaker 1: league of her own when it comes to life. I
- 41:40Speaker 1: just think she's really incredible. Um. I you know, we
- 41:45Speaker 1: feel this way often. Actually, I want to remind us
- 41:47Speaker 1: that we feel this way often at this point in
- 41:49Speaker 1: a season where um, we're like, you know what, there's
- 41:52Speaker 1: just nobody up to the lead, you know, standards, and
- 41:56Speaker 1: then at the end of the season, um, you know,
- 41:59Speaker 1: stuff starts to which I mean, think about how big.
- 42:01Speaker 1: It's not like we are ever not a fan of
- 42:03Speaker 1: Zack um, but there was a moment during that season
- 42:06Speaker 1: where we didn't know she'd end up with Zach's true
- 42:10Speaker 1: and now we see Tasha and Zach together and we're like,
- 42:13Speaker 1: oh no, this is this is good bigod. I became
- 42:18Speaker 1: obsessed with with Zach for Tasia as time went on. Yeah,
- 42:23Speaker 1: late in the season, were not at Yeah, so it
- 42:28Speaker 1: could still happen. I'm with you. I think Michelle is incredible.
- 42:32Speaker 1: We've talked about the upcoming lead, We've talked about the
- 42:34Speaker 1: current lead. Um, we're still waiting for both things to
- 42:38Speaker 1: happen for Michelle on her season and also Clayton to shine.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Uh again, I said in the same place I did.
- 42:46Speaker 1: I don't dislike the guy. I just don't know the guy.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I don't have much of a feeling on the man,
- 42:51Speaker 1: and so as a result, I'm just not convinced that
- 42:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna be like full on support running into this
- 42:59Speaker 1: bat next that's their season going. I cannot wait for
- 43:02Speaker 1: this guy to find love because I just don't know.
- 43:04Speaker 1: So that's where we stand. I'm hoping that changes for Michelle. Yeah, like,
- 43:08Speaker 1: maybe we'll just stop talking about him for the next
- 43:11Speaker 1: couple of weeks, and then if if he gets eliminated
- 43:15Speaker 1: and we still feel nothing, then we'll really critique the
- 43:18Speaker 1: crap out of this whole situation. I'm going to talk
- 43:20Speaker 1: about every week because I think I think it's a
- 43:23Speaker 1: storyline that everybody's wondering. Every week. You see Twitter blowing up.
- 43:26Speaker 1: I mean last week, his name was trending with people
- 43:28Speaker 1: going where it's a big conversation. People are waiting, people
- 43:35Speaker 1: are wanting um, and they need a big one. So okay, Ashley,
- 43:38Speaker 1: chronological order this episode, Let's step through it, all right,
- 43:43Speaker 1: Let's do it Okay, so let's do the first one
- 43:51Speaker 1: on one, which is with m Martin. And Martin we
- 43:56Speaker 1: were saying that we kind of liked him, he was
- 43:58Speaker 1: kind of a dark horse LA this week. This this
- 44:02Speaker 1: date actually didn't make me like it more. What about you? No, Um,
- 44:09Speaker 1: I think he was fine. I think what I would
- 44:11Speaker 1: say about this date was it just like it allowed
- 44:14Speaker 1: us to highlight him. And I just don't think he's
- 44:15Speaker 1: like stepped up, like I just don't. I mean, he
- 44:19Speaker 1: he was obviously, he tried to open up, he was vulnerable,
- 44:23Speaker 1: and he tried to communicate. And that's good. I mean,
- 44:25Speaker 1: it's good and it's healthy in a dating relationship. However,
- 44:29Speaker 1: nothing from this date made me go this is her
- 44:31Speaker 1: husband or this is a future partner? Just made go
- 44:34Speaker 1: and and even the way uh yeah, yeah, they're very awkward,
- 44:42Speaker 1: like tub thing Um was when I really saw and
- 44:46Speaker 1: I was like, this guy just doesn't it for her.
- 44:48Speaker 1: In my opinion, he's missing it and he doesn't necessarily
- 44:51Speaker 1: know how to handle himself right now and like a
- 44:55Speaker 1: natural way with an incredible person by side. So no,
- 45:00Speaker 1: I mean, I still I'm more of a fan of
- 45:02Speaker 1: him than I thought I would be. Um and that's
- 45:04Speaker 1: mostly based on my judgmental ways of seeing him in
- 45:08Speaker 1: a picture. Uh. And he's growing on me, but I
- 45:12Speaker 1: think this week he didn't grow any further than he
- 45:14Speaker 1: did last week. No, I don't think that he was
- 45:18Speaker 1: trying to like question her judgment about the Jamie situation.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Maybe he didn't pick the words correctly. I can still
- 45:27Speaker 1: understand why should we get a little awkward about it,
- 45:31Speaker 1: But I just felt like there was Yeah, there just
- 45:35Speaker 1: was like not enough there for me for me to
- 45:38Speaker 1: like pull him through as a favorite in my mind. Yeah. Um,
- 45:43Speaker 1: And their conversation over dinner was just kind of about
- 45:46Speaker 1: like the fact that he's like blunt and like it's
- 45:49Speaker 1: always working on like what what do we say, like
- 45:52Speaker 1: get get just like communicating better and allowing himself to
- 45:59Speaker 1: open up. Yeah, And I mean, and I mean I'm sure,
- 46:04Speaker 1: like I don't know everybody's upbringing, and I'm sure people
- 46:07Speaker 1: do struggle with that. You know. Michelle did empathize with
- 46:09Speaker 1: him and said I'm similar. He was like, I don't cry. Yeah,
- 46:13Speaker 1: but the the hey, I'm blunt and it can come
- 46:16Speaker 1: off wrong. Like it's kind of when somebody says like sorry,
- 46:20Speaker 1: I just I just speak truth. But really they're just
- 46:22Speaker 1: me like you know, like it's like, oh, you know,
- 46:25Speaker 1: you're just a jerk, like you just you know, when
- 46:27Speaker 1: somebody's like sorry, I just say what's on my mind,
- 46:29Speaker 1: it's like, well, yeah, like if we all did that
- 46:32Speaker 1: all the time, like we just all be mean to
- 46:34Speaker 1: each other. Probably, So it doesn't like that end fly
- 46:37Speaker 1: with me as much as them relating on the So
- 46:39Speaker 1: it's hard for me to get emotional. It's it's you know,
- 46:43Speaker 1: I don't get I'm not allowing myself to go deep.
- 46:46Speaker 1: That stuff was fine. I just don't that this whole
- 46:49Speaker 1: date fell short for me on a romantic level for
- 46:53Speaker 1: the two of them. Meanwhile, back at the house, there's
- 46:57Speaker 1: a group date card that comes. Nate sees that he's
- 47:01Speaker 1: not the person who's going on the one on one,
- 47:03Speaker 1: and he ends up saying that he's not stressed about
- 47:07Speaker 1: um not getting it. He said, eventually it will come.
- 47:10Speaker 1: He feels like he's in a good spot regardless, which
- 47:12Speaker 1: flags Chris s to like, I think that he's coming
- 47:16Speaker 1: off as cocky. I can kind of see that there's
- 47:20Speaker 1: like a you know, there's a fine line between confidence
- 47:25Speaker 1: and cocky. Um. I think he just feels good about himself.
- 47:28Speaker 1: I don't. I didn't find a huge problem with it.
- 47:32Speaker 1: I think that absolutely Chris is ridiculous in the entire
- 47:36Speaker 1: second half of the episode. Yeah yeah, I mean, what
- 47:39Speaker 1: do you want Nate to say, like, oh my gosh,
- 47:41Speaker 1: I don't have the one on one. I think I'm
- 47:43Speaker 1: going home. He He's not, like it's fair for him
- 47:47Speaker 1: to say, I'm okay, Like this is the journey that
- 47:50Speaker 1: she wants to go on. I don't need to go
- 47:51Speaker 1: on this day, and I would like to be on
- 47:53Speaker 1: this day, but I know it's gonna come at some point.
- 47:55Speaker 1: That's okay. Maybe it came off a little cocky, maybe
- 47:59Speaker 1: somebody there was since it of to it, But at
- 48:00Speaker 1: the same time, I personally have zero problem with that
- 48:04Speaker 1: mindset of I'm good for now, like I'll wait until
- 48:08Speaker 1: she's ready. Same same, okay. So the group date was
- 48:12Speaker 1: like a real big bummer for Michelle because it was
- 48:17Speaker 1: a sleepover themed but it seemed like the guys all
- 48:20Speaker 1: went into bro zone and they gave her no attention,
- 48:25Speaker 1: and I guys do this and girls don't. This would
- 48:29Speaker 1: only happen on The Bachelorette, where the guys get so
- 48:33Speaker 1: browy and like enjoy the activity so much that they
- 48:37Speaker 1: end up ignoring the girl. The girls would never have
- 48:41Speaker 1: that happen and have the guy be sitting in the
- 48:43Speaker 1: corner not being pursued. No, guys love hanging out with
- 48:48Speaker 1: guys sometimes. Well, yeah, I get that, but it's also
- 48:54Speaker 1: just weird to me that she was so alone the
- 48:56Speaker 1: whole time. I mean, do you think that like there
- 48:59Speaker 1: was something said ed where they were like, yeah, Michelle
- 49:01Speaker 1: doesn't feel very good today. We were alone? Oh maybe?
- 49:06Speaker 1: I mean even then, though you would have had somebody there,
- 49:09Speaker 1: you'd expect that would have checked on her. They didn't
- 49:12Speaker 1: show it, but like typically, you know, what I would
- 49:15Speaker 1: say is like the overall tone of the date um
- 49:20Speaker 1: is fairly accurately shown on television, Like there's not a
- 49:24Speaker 1: date that I ever went on that. I watched it
- 49:26Speaker 1: back and I was like, that's not at all what happened. Like,
- 49:29Speaker 1: if the tone of the date overall was hey, she
- 49:32Speaker 1: felt like she was on the outside looking in, then uh,
- 49:38Speaker 1: I think they accurately portrayed. And I'm imagining that is
- 49:40Speaker 1: because she has personal conversations about that afterwards. So she
- 49:44Speaker 1: felt pushed aside. She felt like these guys were more
- 49:47Speaker 1: interested in to hang out with each other, but also
- 49:49Speaker 1: just a weird date. I mean, I know they're trying
- 49:51Speaker 1: to get creative and so far this season has had
- 49:54Speaker 1: some incredible dates, but like this is probably in the
- 49:57Speaker 1: hotel conference room and they've like don't look like a
- 50:00Speaker 1: living room. Like what a weird date to have. In general, Yeah,
- 50:05Speaker 1: I didn't like it. Again, as far as the pillow
- 50:10Speaker 1: Fly and the pillow slash Cheddy Bear flight, you guys
- 50:13Speaker 1: know that I can't stand it when it's like some
- 50:16Speaker 1: sort of competition. At least this time it was a
- 50:18Speaker 1: competition where nobody was going to get hurt, because we
- 50:21Speaker 1: always complain about that because somebody always gets hurt. But
- 50:25Speaker 1: it's pretty safe, pretty PG. But I still like kind
- 50:29Speaker 1: of dazed out about it, Like I don't really care. Um,
- 50:34Speaker 1: I don't know. I think it was I think it's
- 50:38Speaker 1: was odd how little she was pursued to the point
- 50:43Speaker 1: where it's just like was there something going on? I
- 50:47Speaker 1: don't know. But I also don't think that that is
- 50:52Speaker 1: Like I'm not worried about that being the tone for
- 50:54Speaker 1: the guys about Michelle, Like I think they're very yeah
- 50:58Speaker 1: and so possibly, Um, you know, the date just didn't
- 51:02Speaker 1: go according to plan or you know, nobody stepped up
- 51:05Speaker 1: to do it well. But I I think these guys
- 51:09Speaker 1: are super into into Michelle, and I think they want
- 51:13Speaker 1: to give her attention. Maybe they just didn't know how
- 51:15Speaker 1: to in them in that scenario. Okay, That's my one
- 51:18Speaker 1: thing is sometimes I would just be so nervous on
- 51:22Speaker 1: the show, the the main show, that I would be
- 51:26Speaker 1: just like scared to kind of like go up to
- 51:28Speaker 1: Chris and start talking because I'd be like, oh, if
- 51:32Speaker 1: nobody else is doing it, then maybe I shouldn't be
- 51:34Speaker 1: doing it. Is this awkward like what am I going
- 51:36Speaker 1: to talk about? All so to kind of like psych
- 51:38Speaker 1: yourself out? And I can see that maybe like that
- 51:41Speaker 1: became a train like effect. Yeah it is, but it
- 51:47Speaker 1: doesn't it And it sparks an important conversation for Michelle
- 51:50Speaker 1: where we get to see more of her and understand
- 51:53Speaker 1: more of her um because this day really led into
- 51:58Speaker 1: her then opening up about the fear of not being seen,
- 52:01Speaker 1: the fear of being um pushed aside, the fear of
- 52:05Speaker 1: being like feeling like the outsider looking in when you
- 52:08Speaker 1: know she's not right. She's the lead of the show,
- 52:10Speaker 1: She's she's the the has the attention of every man,
- 52:14Speaker 1: at least we hope that is there. But it does
- 52:17Speaker 1: allow us to hear more of her, some of her
- 52:19Speaker 1: insecurities and struggles and what makes her Michelle. And that
- 52:22Speaker 1: was a great moment and some guys did step up
- 52:25Speaker 1: in that moment for her as she opened up about
- 52:27Speaker 1: that Alu being the one. I mean, he stepped up
- 52:33Speaker 1: for her in that moment and was, in my opinion,
- 52:36Speaker 1: if we're looking at this thing, like now I know,
- 52:39Speaker 1: I know he's a He's a force to be recogniss
- 52:44Speaker 1: on with on this show. He is now the Martin
- 52:46Speaker 1: of last week, where we don't know a lot about
- 52:48Speaker 1: him leading up to this and now we're like, you know,
- 52:50Speaker 1: this guy's this guy's got something for her. Yeah, he's
- 52:53Speaker 1: a sweetness. I got good vibes from him and it
- 52:57Speaker 1: was a really good, meaningful, deep converse station that they had.
- 53:01Speaker 1: I'm glad he got that Rose. I'm glad that, like
- 53:06Speaker 1: we have another solid quality man in this group. Yeah.
- 53:11Speaker 1: And the other quality guy that I think kind of
- 53:13Speaker 1: like came out of the woodwork this episode was Rick,
- 53:17Speaker 1: who got the other one on one day. It seems
- 53:20Speaker 1: like a really sweet guy. I do not feel a
- 53:23Speaker 1: ton of romance between them. But he's a nice guy
- 53:28Speaker 1: right before this episode and maybe still forever. I'm going
- 53:33Speaker 1: to think about his head on the dinner track. That's
- 53:37Speaker 1: weird that it. It's really sticking for with me. It's
- 53:40Speaker 1: hard to take him seriously and that's how you can remember,
- 53:42Speaker 1: is his head on a platter. Um. But yeah, I'm
- 53:45Speaker 1: with you. But he did, he stood up, stood out,
- 53:48Speaker 1: and um, this is I'd say the two the best
- 53:52Speaker 1: episode was for a Loo and then for Rick. Those
- 53:56Speaker 1: two had the best episode. Um. I believe they both
- 54:00Speaker 1: will be around now a while because it wasn't like this, Um,
- 54:05Speaker 1: this kind of like sudden spark. Now we both got
- 54:08Speaker 1: to see a lot, We got to see his viewers
- 54:10Speaker 1: a lot of both of them, and I think that
- 54:13Speaker 1: proved over time. It proved that this related their relationship
- 54:16Speaker 1: with Michelle is something special. Yeah, they're both going to
- 54:20Speaker 1: go way farther than I think we would have initially imagined.
- 54:23Speaker 1: With Rick. Um, he he had that story that he
- 54:30Speaker 1: told about his dad was just heartbreaking. I mean, this
- 54:35Speaker 1: is the second one on one that Michelle's had where
- 54:39Speaker 1: she has somebody confide in her that apparent committed suicide
- 54:43Speaker 1: and that is a lot to handle, I mean, and
- 54:47Speaker 1: for him to have this guilt like with him for
- 54:51Speaker 1: the rest of his life because he was the one
- 54:55Speaker 1: who caught the dad cheating is just so heavy, so sad. Yeah,
- 55:02Speaker 1: you know, actually it shows us every time, and it's
- 55:06Speaker 1: people that go on this show and and people in
- 55:10Speaker 1: general have incredibly hard and also incredibly beautiful stories, and
- 55:15Speaker 1: we get to hear him on this show. It's one
- 55:17Speaker 1: of the the best parts of the show. Is that
- 55:20Speaker 1: does allow the space for us to connect with the
- 55:23Speaker 1: cast members and also have conversations that matter, which Michelle
- 55:26Speaker 1: is doing this year, and then have conversations with people
- 55:28Speaker 1: like Rick that matter and that get to know him better. Um.
- 55:33Speaker 1: And that's why I'm just saying, like, over time, we
- 55:35Speaker 1: we either fall in love with these people more or
- 55:39Speaker 1: we push away from him more. And for us this week,
- 55:42Speaker 1: especially like we understand Rick better. Um, and we'll probably
- 55:47Speaker 1: get to understand Rick a lot more as this season
- 55:49Speaker 1: goes on. But uh, that was that was a tough
- 55:52Speaker 1: conversation to sit through, but one that was so necessary
- 55:56Speaker 1: because I'm sure Rick is not the only one out
- 55:58Speaker 1: there who feels similar to how he's feeling now. Yeah,
- 56:04Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite parts of the show is
- 56:05Speaker 1: that people get to see, you know, viewers get to
- 56:09Speaker 1: watch people have these hard conversations on TV, and therefore
- 56:14Speaker 1: them being at home feel like more seen, which is
- 56:18Speaker 1: like kind of ironic that like I'm talking about being
- 56:20Speaker 1: seen when the theme of the episode was Michelle feeling
- 56:22Speaker 1: not seen. But I do think that Rick was a
- 56:26Speaker 1: great choice following that group date because he is the
- 56:30Speaker 1: kind of personality that's just going to be like obsessed
- 56:34Speaker 1: with her, do you know what I mean? Like he
- 56:36Speaker 1: probably feels like he's a little out of that she's
- 56:38Speaker 1: a little out of his league, and that's the kind
- 56:41Speaker 1: of guy that's gonna like give you, He's gonna worship
- 56:45Speaker 1: you if you're a Michion. Is interesting too because Mache
- 56:50Speaker 1: I mean, and I know this, Michelle would have had
- 56:53Speaker 1: no idea his story before this date. Like there's not
- 56:58Speaker 1: like a list of this is Rick, this is his story?
- 57:00Speaker 1: Do you want him to go on this world? She
- 57:03Speaker 1: chose Rick because she was obviously interested in Rick, and
- 57:07Speaker 1: he just happened to be there on a week that
- 57:09Speaker 1: it was so I would say, probably uh needed for
- 57:13Speaker 1: her and for him. Uh And and so the timing
- 57:18Speaker 1: of this is really beautiful because she would have known
- 57:21Speaker 1: his story, um when she asked him to go on
- 57:23Speaker 1: this week's one on one. Yes, yes, so true. So
- 57:28Speaker 1: the theme of being seen continues with the cocktail party
- 57:32Speaker 1: slash Rose ceremony when Chris is a little weird and like,
- 57:37Speaker 1: there were some bleepout things that I was a little
- 57:40Speaker 1: confused with. They were bleeping out. Uh, I guess he
- 57:43Speaker 1: says that's left up, right, He just like straight off
- 57:46Speaker 1: the top, says it's left up that you guys didn't
- 57:48Speaker 1: show her the effort she deserves. But I'm like, um, Chris,
- 57:53Speaker 1: you were on that date too. You're clumbed into that feeling.
- 57:59Speaker 1: She was refer into your part of the date, not
- 58:01Speaker 1: the nighttime portion of the date. Um, you know, you
- 58:05Speaker 1: just classic And this is classic guy not getting attention,
- 58:10Speaker 1: you know, probably on the verge of getting eliminated, and
- 58:14Speaker 1: he decides to get attention by creating some drama. Yeah,
- 58:20Speaker 1: oh yeah, I mean it just happens every season. We
- 58:23Speaker 1: could get upset about it every season. We could, you know,
- 58:26Speaker 1: throw our fists up in the air and be like, Chris,
- 58:28Speaker 1: what are you doing? This makes no sense? Where do
- 58:30Speaker 1: you hope this goes, are you trying to ruin this
- 58:33Speaker 1: experience for her and for everybody else there? And just
- 58:37Speaker 1: like help yourself out? So I'm you know what it
- 58:42Speaker 1: does for me, ash if I'm gonna be like harsh, yeah,
- 58:45Speaker 1: I just don't take him seriously anyway. I mean like
- 58:47Speaker 1: there's nothing to take seriously. He comes across as like
- 58:51Speaker 1: I used car salesman in an eighties movie. Yeah, sure, yeah,
- 58:55Speaker 1: that's that's a great example. It's like, all right, cool man,
- 58:58Speaker 1: you've you've you've said what you need to say, You've
- 59:00Speaker 1: had your your party here, the attention has been on you.
- 59:03Speaker 1: You're gone. You know, this is just in my head,
- 59:06Speaker 1: this doesn't matter anymore, Like and I'm tired what I
- 59:09Speaker 1: don't love Ashley? And it's happened now through Michelle's season,
- 59:12Speaker 1: it's been this constant theme is every week, somehow, some way,
- 59:20Speaker 1: her week has been ruined. And I remember times when
- 59:26Speaker 1: you know, if Michelle is feeling if her insecurity is
- 59:29Speaker 1: not being seen. I imagine she has some insecurities being
- 59:32Speaker 1: the bachelor, Like she's doing an incredible job, but like
- 59:37Speaker 1: at some point you're holding on for anything just to
- 59:42Speaker 1: feel like you belong there. As the bachelors so you
- 59:44Speaker 1: can can you continue to date and function this environment?
- 59:48Speaker 1: And if every week you're in your own head questioning
- 59:52Speaker 1: is anybody into me? Um? Is anybody here for me?
- 59:57Speaker 1: Like it's gonna mess with you Like people and viewers
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: might not get that like it does. I had two
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: weeks of this during my season where like something happened
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: when I was like, I don't think anybody actually wants
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: to be here, um And and you lay in bed
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: at night and you're like, this thing's gonna come crashing
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: down around like this thing's done. I don't belong here.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I'm I've proven it to myself. So I'm sick of
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: that because I feel bad for Michelle that we have
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: to continue to, you know, broach this subject. I feel you,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: how do you feel about Nate when she sat down
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: with him? Because while I'm of course more on Nate's
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: side here than Chris's, I don't think it was Nate's
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: shining moment. When he sat down. You could tell that
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: he he didn't like feeling. I mean, obviously nobody's gonna
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: like feeling targeted. Yeah, but I don't know that he
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: like reassured her in the best way. He kind of
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: came across as cool guy. Yeah, that might be that.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I think you just explained it. You know, how do
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I feel about it? Was? Um, he was defending, you know,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: he felt defensive and instead of um, being in a
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: place where you are defensive of the person probably most hurt,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: which is not him, it's Michelle. He is defensive himself,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: and that just doesn't come off well. But you know
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: it's he's also in the moment, which is why one
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: of the issues with the show is you don't have
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: time to like process and think and like step away
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: and then come back and be like, you know what
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: after you're thinking about that, Michelle, you're probably most hurt here.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Let me hear from you. You have to almost react.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: And that's why, you know, you've heard me say it before,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: and we've talked about like the best leads and the
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: best cast members are ones that don't overreact. Um, they're
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: really get at navigating the problems. Michelle is really good
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: at navigating the problems. She takes time away, she cancels
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: cocktail parties. She says, Hey, I'm not ready to speak
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: on this stuff yet. But for Nate, it was I
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: felt like he just started talking too soon, and it
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: came off it came off fairly uh self promoting and
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: not as much focused on her. I hope he turned
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: back to the guy that we saw previously come next
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: week in which they're going to Minnesota. Yeah, you and
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: I wanted them to go to Minnesota. I don't know
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: why I've been not cool with them being in Palm Springs.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I'm just really sad that they're hot, so hot all
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: the time and so sweaty. Minnesota is gonna be great,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: It's gonna be beautiful. Um, it's gonna be comfortable to her,
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: and you know she's down to a smaller group of people. Uh,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: and hope. I mean we said it last week, were
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: this group guys are like the right ones for her.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I really hope that there's somebody that emerges that I
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: feel like is the perfect combination of sweet, smart, romantic,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: because I feel like she has romance with some guys
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: and then she has like depth and like real quality
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: in some guys. But I don't know that I'm seeing
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: someone who has the full rounded picture for I'm hoping.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I'm hoping. Well, I mean, it's a good point. Um.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: As we talked about earlier viewers, listeners out there, who
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: do you see from Michelle right now? Who is your
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: top choices? But Ashuley so right us in Ashley as
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: we do every week. Now, who's your top three? Mm
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: hmm Joe Rodney and right, maybe Brendon Brendon, No, yeah,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Brandon Brendon. Okay, so Brandon, Yeah, I'm gonna go Joe Rodney.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna still throw Nate up there. Um Yeah, I'm
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: gonna say I like Brandon a lot. I mean, he's
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: he's got a lot of momentum, but I still see
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: the Joe Rodney Nate thing is um as the three,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: you know, biggest players. It's interesting if you look at
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: this list of Brandon Leroy, Joe Rodney, Clayton, Casey, Nate,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Chris s um I I would say that, you know, Rick, Brandon, Joe,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Nate Rodney are all above Clayton in terms of familiarity
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: right now. And that's just odd again, just out of me.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: We could keep beating that thought down. I just I'm
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: a little surprised by it. Super super weird thing about Joe.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: How interesting would be if she ends up with a
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: guy that she like previously d M and like lives
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: in her city. I mean it's probably happened before, maybe
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: not the city thing, but the previous d M thing.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Well kind of a Katie and and Blake. Yeah, I
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: would say it's not gonna be there, but I think
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: it would be cool because maybe they needed this to
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: get together. Um, they needed this to push him, and
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: I'm I'm cool with that. Like, ultimately, we just want
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: to see everybody's love story play out, and so if
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: that's where love takes them, then that's where I love
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: takes them. Yep. All right, Well, after this, we're gonna
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: do Bachelor headlines, and Ben, you're part of Bachelor Headlines
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: and I can't wait to dig into it with you.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: It's time for Bachelor Headlines with our resident expert, Ashley.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: I get Eddie here to break down everything going on
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: in Bachelor headlines. I haven't seen the headline yet, but
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: she hinted to me that I'm in them, so uh
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: oh is Anyways, Um, here's the first headline of this week.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Katie Thurston seemingly responds to wild rumors about her friendship
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: with John Hersey after Blake Moyne split. As according to
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: US Weekly, so there's this guy, John Hersey which you
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: may not even know if you and follow Katie or
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: him on social media. He was eliminated week two during
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: her season, and she wrote or said something on Instagram
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: this week saying, y'all are getting wild in my d ms.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Um said internet rumors are leading me to become This
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: is weeks ago. She said this part internet rumors lead
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: me to this guy becoming a dear friend. UM, and
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: people are d m ng her things like hope you
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: guys are more than friends now heart emoji um, or
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: it won't be long until romance blooms between you guys.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: But I think she's trying to make it very clear
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: they are just friends. Apparently, she posted a picture of
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: a bouquet of flowers that she got from a friend
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: and the note said these are not romantic flowers. These
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: are happy flowers because I want you to be happy
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: and um, fans are speculating that that was from him now,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: just based on this info. Do you think that the
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: that this guy John wants to be friends with Katie
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: or is he slowly trying to make his way out
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: of the friend zone. Oh, I'm sure he's trying to
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: make his way out of friends zone. Of I think
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: there's a lot of really good examples of guys and
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: girls being friends, right Sending flowers that's always. That's like
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: where you have to draw the line. That's where I
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: drew a line with Jared where I was like, Nope,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: no matter what people tell me, he likes me. This
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: was between Bachelor and Paradise seasons because there were two moments,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: one in October and one in March where he sent
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: me flowers and the note was so personal, definitely not
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: just friends, like he said in the second one on
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: my birthday, like the cory to your topanga, and it
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: was just like I was like, Okay, guys, you can
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: pretend like I'm crazy, but I am not. So he
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: really knows the way to your heart. Wow. All right.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Next headline is this Ben Higgins. We we kind of
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: know him details Jessica Clark kind of know her. Also
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: wedding three efficients and countless Bachelor and Bachelor at Alums
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: is according to US Weekly, what do you want to
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: talk about? According to US Weekly and yourself three officiants,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: how did you not mention this last week? And I
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: was grilling you about wedding details? That's a good point.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: I don't know why didn't it. Um, Yeah, we're having
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: three efficients and it's I think it's gonna be like
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: the cool unique one of the one of the unique
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: things that exists for us is, Um, we want Jessic
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: and I both wanted this wedding to be a celebration. Um,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: And every wedding is right, but we really wanted this
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: to highlight us coming together and the people in our
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: lives that have played a role in us coming together,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: if that's childhood, if that's you know, adulthood, whatever, and
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: so um, it's a big deal for us because we
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: have my childhood pastor, we have her childhood pastor. Uh,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: and then we have a pastor who had a huge
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: role in my life specifically and hers over the last
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: couple of years in Denver. And so we wanted to
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: incorporate all of them because it didn't make sense for
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: us to just have one of them. And so one
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: is going to intro, one is going to do the middle,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: one is going to do the closing, And that way
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: we get married by all three of them, and we
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: can say, like those three people in our lives, Um,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: we'll have played a role and will now have always
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: played a role in our relationship. That's really sweet. I
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: love that. And then of course everybody wants to know
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: who's going to be there. And this guest list of
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: Bachelor contestants and alms and friends. Nobody is surprising to me,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: but I'm going to list them off. Okay, so it's
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: me and Jared, it's not all, that's not all. That's
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: not all of them. Okay, this is what you mentioned,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: So Me Jared, Becka Kouffrin, who's bringing her plus one, Thomas. Um.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: Then there's Dean and Kaylin. Chase mcnarry's bringing his new
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: girlfriend or I guess he's been with her for a while. Um,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: Blake in a lease, Beckatilly, Um, Sewan Booth, Caitlin and
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: and Jason We're both invited, but they have a tour
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: date in Boston, so are not going to be there,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: which I'm going to miss her for sure there. Um
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: and then Nick and Natalie, Chris Souls and uh. Okay,
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: so who are we missing from that? Yeah? I would
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: have to look back at the list and find out
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: who we have to cross out, but that's a lot
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: of them, most of them, right, um and uh. And
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: I'm just super pumped to have everybody there. I'm so
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: excited to see everyone, so excited. Um, so excited to
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: see everybody's so excited to celebrate with everybody. It's been
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: a long time since we've been in the together in
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: the same spot, and so um, you know, it's gonna
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: be great. It's gonna be like a reunion a lot
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: of ways. And the cool part about this is, you know,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: these people are friends of mine, Like, these are people
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I still talk to on a regular basis. Um, there's
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: still people that have a huge role in my life. Wells,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I don't know if Wells is on the I know,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: I think I meant to mention Wells separately. So it
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: says he's going to be an usher. You call him
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: an usher, Does that mean that you're not having a
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: proper bridal party or or is he is he's a groomsman. No,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: he's like an usher. So he helps people get seated.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a Midwest thing. Um, when
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: you walk in, he'll be it's like, you know, it's
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: there's four friends of mine. Avery uh, Wells, Yeah, they're
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: gonna be ushers. They're gonna help people get seated, sit down,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: kind of get people a rally. Together. Um, so they're
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: part of the wedding party. They're just ushers and not
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: standing up with me. Do you have grooms been standing
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: up with you? I do? Yeah, So, um they're gonna
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: be uh standing up with They're gonna walk out with me,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: I believe. And then my dad is my best man,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: as I mentioned, Um and so they Yes, I do
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: have RNs with standing up with me. That's very important
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: to me. Uh. And and and Jess, I mean she
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: has a lot of friends that she won standing besider lovely. Okay,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: so excited. We will have a big report next week.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: There were four days away ash four days, four days
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: so so crazy, very exciting. Um yeah, I can't wait,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: can't wait. I gonna cry my eyes out. I'm sure
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna be I'm gonna be a messages. You're going
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: to starting to do not she said, not like out
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: of anything more than just like we're so close and
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: it's so exciting, and we just got to Nashville, like
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: literally right when I walked in the door, and like
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: I finally now feel like it's here, so um, the
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: place that all started, I'm right back at it. Well, um,
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: that's enough about me. Why bachelor Nations. Peter Weber says
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: dating Madison prut was the most difficult experience ever disaccording
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: to Eat Okay, so he goes, this is literally the
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: most trying experience he's ever endured, most difficult experience ever
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: been through. As much as respect as I have for
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: her and think so highly of her, I definitely see
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: there were differences between the two of us that probably
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: weren't going to allow a meaningful long term relationship to flourish.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Nothing against either one of us. It's just who we are.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: It is what it is. Uh, it's very interesting there.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of it probably has to
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: do with religion, because she is so religious, and I
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: don't know that that really ever came out about him.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: So in this article from page six that came out
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: this week, it talks about how Maddie, who was waiting
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: um saving herself her marriage, walked away after learning that
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: Peter had been intimate with both Hannah and and Victoria
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: and the fantasy suits. And he was asked about whether
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: or not Maddie had had a fantasy suitet date, whether
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: that would have given them a better chance, and he said,
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: if that would have been the case, obviously the show
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: would have gone a little different. But I really truly
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: mean this. I don't know that that would have changed
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: anything in the long run, which I'm pretty sure he's
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: quite accurate about. I mean, yeah, of course not, because
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: they ended up having like plenty of private solo conversations.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Nothing about a fantasy suite date would have made the difference. No. Well, um,
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I don't headline other than one kind of fun one
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: that we want to do. Congratulations to Tasha Adams, her fiance,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: Zack Matt, James uh and many more. Biler who else
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: was There's a lot bachelor LNG, Peter Webber did it.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Dr Joe did it. I mean, there's a huge list
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: here of people who did it. But they just ran
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: in completed all of them. The New York City Marathon.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I was in New York City the day of the marathon. Um,
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: all I saw was a bunch of people and a
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: lot of traffic. But it was And I also had
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: a big piece of pizza, a couple of pieces that
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: night while they were running. Um, but it doesn't matter.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Congratulations to them on on completing this. It's a huge deal.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: It is such a huge deal. I am mind boggled
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: that anyone can run a marathon. I can't even believe.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: I used to run three miles in high school in
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: pe class. I give myself props for being able to
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: do that. Marathons are just I know I said this before,
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: but like they fascinate me because they are just seems
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: like the most difficul gould feet And for all of
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: these Bachelor alums that I've met to be able to
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: have the strength and endurance to do it, like I'm
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: I am and all of you guys, congratulations. Yeah. Well,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: final headline, the fun one that we wanted to read.

- 1:16:37Speaker 1: credit for that since I was on that sea. I
