- 0:00Jenn: Hey everyone.
- 0:00Jenn: Welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday.
- 0:04Jenn: We all love to save a little bit of money, right Meggan?
- 0:09Meggan: Yeah.
- 0:09Meggan: And this economy especially, we're into saving cash.
- 0:12Jenn: We are.
- 0:13Jenn: So this week I'm kind of expanding on something that I mentioned in our Beginner's Guide to Miami episode, which is using Groupon to save on tours.
- 0:25Jenn: So I feel like Groupon was like all the rage like 10 to 15 years ago.
- 0:31Meggan: It was, you couldn't go anywhere without people saying, do you have a Groupon
- 0:35Jenn: Right.
- 0:36Jenn: And I don't hear a lot about it anymore, but it's still active and you can find some hidden gems on there.
- 0:44Jenn: Although I was on there recently and you do have to do a bit of digging, like there's a lot of crap, but there are some good stuff.
- 0:51Jenn: For example, I was just looking at Orlando 'cause we're headed there in a few weeks and there's discounts on a lot of stuff from like pirate themed dinner theaters to like mini golf.
- 1:02Jenn: Boat tours, salsa dancing lessons, glass blowing classes, like there was all kinds of stuff and thought that that was really cool.
- 1:12Jenn: there's also a few websites that, offer, pay what you please, so they're not free, but kind of pay by donation, if you will.
- 1:21Jenn: Um, different walking tours.
- 1:23Jenn: So a couple that I saw are Walk Guru and free tour.com.
- 1:28Jenn: These seem really popular in Europe mostly.
- 1:32Jenn: And then another way to save a bit of money is to check if a museum that you wanna visit has a free or a pay what you wish day or a discount day.
- 1:42Jenn: So a lot of museums in New York City, for example, have these options.
- 1:46Jenn: And I actually learned, Meggan, that there were several free museums in Halifax that I.
- 1:52Jenn: I was like, oh.
- 1:53Jenn: So, um, Dalhousie Art Gallery, St.
- 1:56Jenn: Mary's University Art Gallery.
- 1:59Jenn: I take this to mean that many universities around the world probably have free art galleries that
- 2:04Meggan: Yeah, probably.
- 2:04Jenn: people not visiting.
- 2:06Jenn: then also the Emera Oval here in Halifax provides free public skating, including free equipment rentals.
- 2:13Jenn: So that's amazing.
- 2:14Jenn: So when you start digging, you can really find free and low cost options probably anywhere.
- 2:21Jenn: If we could find it in Halifax you could find it anywhere.
- 2:25Meggan: Yes.
- 2:26Meggan: Yes, I agree.
- 2:27Jenn: So Meggan, is I, I don't think you've done this before, but would you use Groupon in the future?
- 2:33Jenn: Have you looked for like free walking tours or am I just blowing your mind right now?
- 2:38Meggan: I'm not, I'm not above saving the cash.
- 2:40Meggan: I'm, I'm in the same economy as everybody else.
- 2:42Meggan: I'm definitely into it, so I haven't like, I haven't seriously thought about it though, like this is, this is why we do the travel tip Tuesday.
- 2:49Meggan: Sometimes you and I learn right along with everybody else, and of course I used Groupon years ago, but like you mentioned it, it was what, I don't know if things were viral then, but it was, it was a big thing for a while.
- 3:01Meggan: but of course with upcoming trips this year, including maybe a long weekend in New York, I will definitely, um, be taking a look because if you're going to do it anyway, why not take a quick glance, as we say, do a little research just to see, and if it can save you money, why wouldn't you?
- 3:19Meggan: So maybe not, but going forward yeah.
- 3:22Jenn: let us know if you've ever done this.
- 3:24Jenn: if you've used Groupon, if you've done a pay what you wish and actually named your own price, let us know.
- 3:29Jenn: Uh, that is all that we have for this week's travel tip Tuesday.
