- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM640, the Bill Handel Show on
- 0:04Speaker 1: demand on the iHeartRadio.
- 0:11Speaker 2: App.
- 0:15Speaker 3: And now, Handel on the News. Ladies and gentlemen, here's
- 0:19Speaker 3: Bill Handel.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Good morning.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Already it's Tuesday. Wednesday now. Less than a week to
- 0:34Speaker 1: go before our election. Israel, the election yesterday, and no surprise.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We'll talk more about that at 7 o'clock, what happened.
- 0:42Speaker 1: A few political things we're going to talk about. The
- 0:50Speaker 1: citizenship verification request The feds asking L.A. County Or actually
- 0:55Speaker 1: Orange County election officials And then we're going to do
- 0:58Speaker 1: some props today Prop 5, 37, 38 No, we're not
- 1:01Speaker 1: going to do Prop 5 Because it's really kind of
- 1:06Speaker 1: eh I'm choosing the most controversial props That we're going
- 1:10Speaker 1: to be talking about The propositions And my voter's guide
- 1:13Speaker 1: Which you cannot pay attention to Okay, let me say
- 1:16Speaker 1: a quick hello to one and all.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Mario, good morning. Good morning, everybody. Okay, there you go.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Neil.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Hi, William. Hey, I'm going to try to go over
- 1:27Speaker 2: to your place on Halloween evening. Is that right?
- 1:30Speaker 1: In the rain?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to try. I'm calling BS.
- 1:34Speaker 1: No, I know, I know, but I have to see
- 1:36Speaker 1: what you're doing this year. I've only seen one.
- 1:38Speaker 5: Well, keep in mind, it might be raining, so I'm
- 1:41Speaker 5: not sure what's going out.
- 1:44Speaker 2: What happens if it starts pouring rain? What do you
- 1:46Speaker 2: do at that point? Just hang it up? It goes
- 1:48Speaker 2: next year?
- 1:49Speaker 5: Do minimum, but it looks like the rain's going to
- 1:52Speaker 5: hit around 7 p.m., which is like when people start
- 1:55Speaker 5: coming out. So I'm going to continue doing what I'm doing,
- 1:59Speaker 5: but I think it might be a little bit of
- 2:02Speaker 5: a bust.
- 2:03Speaker 6: I think yours, though, Neil, yours is going to be
- 2:06Speaker 6: really cool in the rain, right?
- 2:09Speaker 2: But you don't want animatronics in the rain.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Put an umbrella over it.
- 2:14Speaker 2: That's what my wife said. Yeah, it's not the same.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Also, keep in mind that this is way early for
- 2:23Speaker 1: Halloween in terms of the time the rain starts, et cetera,
- 2:28Speaker 1: isn't it? I mean, you know, sometimes the cell coming
- 2:32Speaker 1: in over is a lot slower, a lot faster, doesn't
- 2:36Speaker 1: move in quite the right direction.
- 2:38Speaker 2: All right, Amy.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Anne and I are talking back and forth about both
- 2:42Speaker 5: of us doing our houses and we're just moving forward.
- 2:45Speaker 6: Hoping for the best. There are some weather models that
- 2:48Speaker 6: are saying that the rain might not arrive until later,
- 2:51Speaker 6: like later in the evening or even on Sunday. So
- 2:54Speaker 6: there's still a chance.
- 2:55Speaker 1: There is, and good morning. Anne, good morning to you.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Hello.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And there is Will with his cheap Costco Tommy Bahama knockoff.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And Guy doesn't know how to turn on a microphone.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It's not me. Okay. No, this is Cook Street. This
- 3:16Speaker 2: is high quality. Oh. Cook Street. Oh, I haven't heard
- 3:20Speaker 2: of Cook Street. It's the Costco brand. Oh, is it?
- 3:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I thought it was, the Costco brand was like Jax
- 3:26Speaker 2: or something. J-A-X-X. Yeah, there you go.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:30Speaker 2: What was I going to, I was going to say
- 3:33Speaker 2: something about, and this is for.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Ann and Neil, who seriously do their Halloween thing. I mean,
- 3:42Speaker 1: really do. And as I've said before, when I'm asked,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I do nothing. I do not give out candy. I
- 3:47Speaker 1: am not interested in people coming anywhere near me. So
- 3:51Speaker 1: I have, I have my, I go to the back
- 3:53Speaker 1: of the house, have all the front.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Lights, the front part of the house off, including my
- 3:58Speaker 2: porch life off.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And then, uh, a sign that says, um, sex offender
- 4:04Speaker 1: lives here please do not knock on the door and
- 4:07Speaker 1: so we're in the city actually give you that sign
- 4:10Speaker 1: and i know they didn't but i'd love to get
- 4:14Speaker 1: one because mine are handwritten it's not the same as
- 4:16Speaker 1: a city it's one it's.
- 4:18Speaker 5: Too bad because you already have the cryptkeeper costume No.
- 4:23Speaker 2: That's very funny. All right. Here we go. Oh, and Halloween.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I've been invited to a Halloween thing.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Tomorrow, but I'm not going to be able to go,
- 4:31Speaker 1: which is a shame because I love doing I love
- 4:33Speaker 1: costume stuff.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I really do.
- 4:35Speaker 1: OK, anybody real quickly before we go into the news
- 4:40Speaker 1: and it gets fairly serious fairly quickly. Uh, costumes, uh, anything, any,
- 4:46Speaker 1: what are we doing? Uh, this, uh, Halloween costume party time,
- 4:49Speaker 1: Neil costumes.
- 4:51Speaker 5: Anna and I are dressing up as two really very
- 4:54Speaker 5: tired people who are, are hoping it doesn't rain.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Excellent. Well said.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Amy, are you doing anything Halloween costume wise?
- 5:03Speaker 6: If I do, it's going to be Sanderson sister. Cause
- 5:05Speaker 6: I have that costume.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:08Speaker 6: And the red hair and the red hair.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Okay, fair enough, Mario. I would be Winifred.
- 5:14Speaker 4: You're dressing yourself up as an illegal alien, correct? Yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 4: that's on Friday night. For Saturday night, I'll be a
- 5:23Speaker 4: werewolf on Saturday night.
- 5:25Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 5:26Speaker 1: You know what's really a lot of fun is going
- 5:28Speaker 1: to a party. that is primarily Latino, if you know
- 5:33Speaker 1: any groups of Latino, and coming as a Border Patrol agent.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Oh, dear God.
- 5:36Speaker 1: That is, boy, that's entertainment with a capital E. Will,
- 5:41Speaker 1: any costumes for you?
- 5:42Speaker 2: No, I'm too tired.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Uh-huh.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody is. This is a tough way to go.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And finally, costume? No. No.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:53Speaker 6: All right.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Enough of that.
- 5:55Speaker 1: We used to do costumes coming around the station. When's
- 5:57Speaker 1: the last time anybody actually wore a costume around the station? Oh,
- 6:00Speaker 1: it was pre-COVID is what it was. And then some
- 6:03Speaker 1: people would come and some people would not.
- 6:04Speaker 2: When was the last time anybody liked each other around here?
- 6:06Speaker 2: That's a good point. But you went for the prizes.
- 6:09Speaker 6: What?
- 6:10Speaker 2: There is a party tomorrow, isn't there, at the station?
- 6:13Speaker 6: Maybe I'll dig out my Tigger costume.
- 6:15Speaker 2: There you go.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Bill, you should go as a bottle of roll-on deodorant.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Just put a turtleneck on.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I can go as... You know what I.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Could do is carry a plate of crudités and come
- 6:28Speaker 1: as Jeffrey Dahmer and go, here, these are... Or little
- 6:31Speaker 1: tiny sandwiches. These are finger sandwiches. Okay, why don't we
- 6:35Speaker 1: do this? Why don't we... Go right into the news, guys.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It is time for Handle on the News with Amy, Neil,
- 6:43Speaker 1: and me.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Lead story. Anticipation.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah, well, the election in Israel was yesterday. And as
- 6:51Speaker 1: I said, we'll talk about it this morning. And final
- 6:53Speaker 1: results are, nobody knows. Up in the air once again.
- 6:59Speaker 1: As to this point, there has been no party that
- 7:01Speaker 1: has ever received a majority in the Knesset, their parliament,
- 7:05Speaker 1: So a group of parties are not cobbled together. Netanyahu,
- 7:10Speaker 1: who did win, his party won more seats than his opponent,
- 7:14Speaker 1: but not enough to create a government, is now courting
- 7:18Speaker 1: other governments or other parties. Up to this point, ultra-nationalist,
- 7:23Speaker 1: orthodox organizations, which is why the government of Israel still
- 7:27Speaker 1: maintains the religious people are exempt from.
- 7:30Speaker 2: The army concept.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And policy, which gets a lot of people really upset
- 7:36Speaker 1: because their kids and they had to fight and join
- 7:39Speaker 1: the army.
- 7:40Speaker 2: The religious folks do not.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So there's also, I'll tell you, a great inroads are
- 7:45Speaker 1: the Arab parties. Do you know if someone's born in Israel,
- 7:48Speaker 1: that's an Israeli citizen. 20% of the population of Israel
- 7:52Speaker 1: is Arab and they get elected. I mean, there are
- 7:55Speaker 1: members of the Arab community that are elected to the parliament. Now,
- 7:59Speaker 1: are there some restrictions?
- 8:00Speaker 2: Oh, you bet. They're not allowed in the Army.
- 8:02Speaker 1: They're not allowed on any committee that deals with security.
- 8:07Speaker 1: In Israel, they're not allowed near any of that stuff
- 8:11Speaker 1: for obvious reasons. But the Liberal Party, that's the opposition,
- 8:19Speaker 1: is thinking of, and we're talking about Eisenhower, Yashar, may
- 8:23Speaker 1: put together an Arab coalition, his party and the Arab party.
- 8:27Speaker 2: It's really wild. We're going to find out more.
- 8:31Speaker 1: By the way, it's not going to be weeks of
- 8:32Speaker 1: negotiations going to happen before a government is formed.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Weeks. All right, moving on.
- 8:37Speaker 6: Neck and neck down to the wire. Our elections are
- 8:40Speaker 6: less than a week away and the race for mayor
- 8:42Speaker 6: of L.A. is basically in a dead heat. Karen Bass
- 8:48Speaker 6: and Nithya Raman now have 40 percent of likely L.A.
- 8:53Speaker 6: voters on their side. That's according to the newest poll
- 8:56Speaker 6: out of UC Berkeley. Nineteen percent say they're still undecided
- 9:01Speaker 6: ahead of the November 3rd election.
- 9:03Speaker 2: That's a lot of people.
- 9:04Speaker 1: That's a lot of people undecided because usually by this point,
- 9:08Speaker 1: the vote is pretty well baked in and the undecided
- 9:11Speaker 1: are very small.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Well, the Spencer Pratt group is really what they're looking for.
- 9:16Speaker 2: There's a lot of danglers.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And if I had to guess right now, I think
- 9:21Speaker 1: Karen Bass is going to pull it off.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's my guess. Yeah, we'll see. All right. Story out
- 9:27Speaker 2: of Spain. This is very sad.
- 9:32Speaker 5: You've got two trains colliding in Spain. At least 30
- 9:36Speaker 5: people were killed. These are high-speed trains. They're in central Spain.
- 9:42Speaker 5: And just yesterday, they came together and second deadly crash
- 9:49Speaker 5: this year.
- 9:49Speaker 6: And this one just got worse, too. They've increased the
- 9:52Speaker 6: death toll up to at least 64 now.
- 9:54Speaker 1: You know, for some reason, Spain has more than its
- 9:57Speaker 1: share of this. If you look at the number of
- 10:00Speaker 1: accidents on trains, Spain seems to be sort of the
- 10:03Speaker 1: poster child of this in Europe.
- 10:05Speaker 5: But is it because more people use.
- 10:08Speaker 2: The trains there? No, not necessarily. Or is it an
- 10:10Speaker 2: infrastructure problem?
- 10:11Speaker 6: It's got to be an infrastructure problem. There was a
- 10:14Speaker 6: train stopped on the tracks and the other train slammed
- 10:17Speaker 6: into it.
- 10:18Speaker 1: There is also, there was one in which a train
- 10:20Speaker 1: driver went on a curve way too fast and he flipped,
- 10:24Speaker 1: the train went off the tracks. But this is at
- 10:27Speaker 1: two high-speed trains. You ever been on a high-speed train?
- 10:29Speaker 6: Yeah, I just did it.
- 10:30Speaker 2: It's cool.
- 10:31Speaker 1: You're zipping along at 220 miles per hour on the
- 10:35Speaker 1: super fast one. Now, can you imagine if you're going
- 10:39Speaker 1: head-on and you crash... with the train going that same
- 10:43Speaker 1: speed in your direction, and it becomes a head-on crash.
- 10:47Speaker 1: So now you're talking about crashing at 440 miles per hour.
- 10:52Speaker 1: The people in those front cars become vaporized.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I mean, just nothing there. I'm going to.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Get out to Modesto and ride our.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yeah, not even body parts. It's just horrific.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I think of that when you're sitting on a train,
- 11:08Speaker 1: and Amy will tell you, and you're crossing a train.
- 11:12Speaker 2: You're going one way, the other train goes the other way,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and it's a blip.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:16Speaker 1: And that's what I think about. What happens in a
- 11:19Speaker 1: head-on crash? For some reason, that's what I think about.
- 11:23Speaker 6: Of course, that's what you think about.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:25Speaker 2: And I think it'd be fairly instant. Oh, yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I mean, you wouldn't know.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You would probably wouldn't even know about it to be
- 11:32Speaker 1: instant disappearance. OK, let's go ahead and take a break.
- 11:35Speaker 1: We'll come back and do more of Handle on the News.
- 11:39Speaker 3: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 11:45Speaker 2: More Handle on the News. Amy, Neil and me.
- 11:48Speaker 6: Some breathing room, but no breaks.
- 11:51Speaker 2: L.A.
- 11:52Speaker 6: DWP's Board of Commissioners moved yesterday to immediately suspend residential
- 11:59Speaker 6: water and electricity shutoffs because of nonpayment for the rest
- 12:03Speaker 6: of the year. And of course, it's because of those
- 12:06Speaker 6: stupid expensive utility bills that customers have been getting over
- 12:10Speaker 6: the summer. The president, Alan Marks, encouraged residents to enroll
- 12:15Speaker 6: in programs that could help alleviate rising costs and said
- 12:19Speaker 6: that the board doesn't have the authority to forgive those charges.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Who does?
- 12:23Speaker 1: You would think that it would be the DWP, maybe
- 12:26Speaker 1: since it's a agency, semi-autonomous agency of the city of
- 12:32Speaker 1: Los Angeles.
- 12:32Speaker 2: It would be the city council agency.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I don't know the answer to that, but they don't
- 12:37Speaker 1: know why it's gotten so crazy. Now, they're saying because
- 12:39Speaker 1: it's particularly hot. One of the things about hot weather
- 12:42Speaker 1: is it sucks up a lot of energy with air conditioning.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And there's even a move, by the way, and it's
- 12:48Speaker 1: getting more and more, more legs or much more legs.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And that is viewing utilities, air conditioning specifically, not as
- 12:59Speaker 1: a privilege, but as a right. in Southern California or
- 13:03Speaker 1: parts of the United States in which the heat kills people.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Well, is the cost going up because people are using
- 13:10Speaker 5: so much?
- 13:11Speaker 2: That's what they're there.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Or is it because they're charging more during the summer?
- 13:16Speaker 2: I don't think they charge more during the summer. It's
- 13:18Speaker 2: just the use is more.
- 13:20Speaker 1: And then it gets really expensive because as you use
- 13:24Speaker 1: more electricity, you go into the next tier of And
- 13:27Speaker 1: then it gets more and more expensive depending on how
- 13:30Speaker 1: much you're using.
- 13:31Speaker 2: So it really is a killer.
- 13:32Speaker 6: The more you use, the more you pay?
- 13:34Speaker 2: That's exactly it.
- 13:35Speaker 6: The higher rate you pay?
- 13:36Speaker 2: That's correct.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Wow.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Because you go into another tier.
- 13:39Speaker 5: How is that not gouging during the summer?
- 13:41Speaker 1: Because it is based on the use and they want
- 13:46Speaker 1: to keep down the amount of usage. They want to
- 13:49Speaker 1: basically say, which we hear, keep your electricity, keep your
- 13:53Speaker 1: temperature at 78 or higher during the summer. or at 68,
- 13:59Speaker 1: I believe, or warmer during or colder during the winter.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Because at those extremes, particularly the summertime, the amount of
- 14:07Speaker 1: energy that is sucked up by AC units is enormous.
- 14:10Speaker 2: And what the state, what these.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Utilities want to do is keep it to a minimum
- 14:14Speaker 1: because they don't want to build more power plants because
- 14:18Speaker 1: they want to conserve power. And how do you conserve power? Well,
- 14:22Speaker 1: you make it more expensive as you use more and more.
- 14:25Speaker 1: It's like a graduated income tax. The more you make,
- 14:28Speaker 1: the more you pay.
- 14:29Speaker 5: And then they want to mandate people to drive electric
- 14:32Speaker 5: cars by 2036?
- 14:33Speaker 1: 2035.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Let's not exaggerate here. Oh, genius.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Because we have no problems. We have plenty of problems.
- 14:43Speaker 2: By the way, I don't have a problem with that.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Remember the big deal about LED lights and incandescent light
- 14:48Speaker 1: bulbs and how dare the government force us to buy
- 14:53Speaker 1: a LED light instead of an incandescent light.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Oh my God, remember that was horrific. that particular discussion.
- 15:00Speaker 2: All right, give me a break.
- 15:00Speaker 6: I know, but did our bills go down because we're
- 15:02Speaker 6: all saving all this energy with the LED lights?
- 15:05Speaker 2: No, but we're using, but here's the argument. We use,
- 15:07Speaker 2: it did use less electricity.
- 15:10Speaker 6: Then why are we paying?
- 15:10Speaker 1: Across the board because the electricity rates have climbed anyway
- 15:13Speaker 1: because inflation is part of it.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Because none of it matters. It's all garbage. No, no,
- 15:18Speaker 2: that's not true.
- 15:18Speaker 1: It is.
- 15:18Speaker 2: That's not true.
- 15:19Speaker 1: No.
- 15:19Speaker 2: They make these lights.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Okay, green energy. All right, green energy. All of it
- 15:23Speaker 1: a hoax. We don't need green energy except.
- 15:25Speaker 2: It's not a hoax.
- 15:26Speaker 5: Hoax the fact is you and i are not going
- 15:28Speaker 5: to change the globe by buying no but you're going
- 15:32Speaker 5: to change your electric bill uh that's the whole point
- 15:36Speaker 5: it depends if you put in uh well for example
- 15:38Speaker 5: i have i have a solar system now i paid
- 15:41Speaker 5: a lot of money up front but i pay zero
- 15:44Speaker 5: for my electricity And that helps. That helps not only me,
- 15:47Speaker 5: although I don't over the I don't know how many
- 15:49Speaker 5: years is the payback, but it also. Well, I hope
- 15:53Speaker 5: you stay in that house for years and years to
- 15:55Speaker 5: come and get that money back.
- 15:56Speaker 2: That's very funny.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Flavio Bolsonaro and his family going to get visas for
- 16:01Speaker 5: here in the US. Of course, they left. They left Brazil. And,
- 16:07Speaker 5: you know, because things can get, you know, we think
- 16:10Speaker 5: it's bad here in the United States. No, people have
- 16:13Speaker 5: to leave when they lose in other places.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Not necessarily. This is the Bolsonaro family.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Let's talk about his father, Jair Bolsonaro, who was president
- 16:23Speaker 1: of Brazil, lost the race to Lula da Silva, tried to,
- 16:28Speaker 1: in fact, undo the election, taking a page right out
- 16:31Speaker 1: of Donald Trump.
- 16:31Speaker 2: It was rigged. And then he.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Tried to overthrow that election. The father hired Bolsonaro, 27
- 16:37Speaker 1: years in jail. for that, for treason, basically. So now
- 16:41Speaker 1: you have the son who also ran for president and
- 16:43Speaker 1: just lost and his passport was taken away.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Why?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Because he's doing the same thing, trying to overturn, appeal
- 16:51Speaker 1: the election, except he got smart. He said, I'm not
- 16:54Speaker 1: going to do it here. I'm getting the hell out
- 16:56Speaker 1: of Dodge. So he leaves Brazil. Somehow he was able
- 17:02Speaker 1: to do it without a passport or he took the
- 17:04Speaker 1: passport and just ran before he turned it in. And
- 17:07Speaker 1: I think he went to Ecuador and then the United
- 17:09Speaker 1: States gave him a visa.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Why did the U.S. give him a visa? Because no
- 17:12Speaker 2: Brazilians were able to get visas, of course.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Well, because the Bolsonaros were Trump allies and acolytes of Trump.
- 17:20Speaker 1: The father called himself the Donald Trump of South America.
- 17:23Speaker 1: President Trump so backed up Bolsonaro that he imposed a
- 17:28Speaker 1: 50 percent tariff on Brazil just for electing or just
- 17:34Speaker 1: for throwing out Bolsonaro the first time around. You don't
- 17:37Speaker 1: go against the president. And he says, if you go
- 17:39Speaker 1: against me or someone who is my ally, read Bolsonaro,
- 17:43Speaker 1: I'm going to screw you over. And the argument, of course,
- 17:46Speaker 1: with Brazil is the balance of trade. They're stealing money
- 17:49Speaker 1: from us like other countries.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Here's the problem. We export to Brazil more than we import.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So it totally undermines the argument that we're going to
- 18:00Speaker 1: punish Brazil for exporting too much.
- 18:01Speaker 2: It was purely personal.
- 18:03Speaker 1: That's it.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Straight out personal. And Bolsonaro, of course, got a visa immediately.
- 18:07Speaker 2: to the United States. And here he comes. He's never
- 18:10Speaker 2: going to go back to Brazil. I'll tell you that. Never.
- 18:13Speaker 3: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Next Tuesday is the big day. You bet.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Yesterday was the Israeli elections. I'll do more about that
- 18:25Speaker 1: at seven o'clock. And not a lot happened. That was
- 18:28Speaker 1: one of the fears or a lot happened and nothing
- 18:30Speaker 1: came out of it much. We'll talk about more about
- 18:32Speaker 1: that at seven. In the meantime, We continue with Handel
- 18:36Speaker 1: on the News.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Amy, Neil, and me.
- 18:38Speaker 6: It looks like he got another one. Authorities in Utah
- 18:43Speaker 6: used DNA technology to link Ted Bundy, the notorious serial killer,
- 18:49Speaker 6: to the murder of a 17-year-old girl whose body was
- 18:53Speaker 6: discovered by hunters 52 years ago in Utah, as I mentioned.
- 18:59Speaker 6: She was found October 27th, 1974. There were signs that
- 19:02Speaker 6: she had been raped and tortured. Her name was Melissa
- 19:05Speaker 6: Ann Smith and she was the daughter of the local
- 19:08Speaker 6: police chief.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Oh, boy. Yeah.
- 19:10Speaker 2: If memory serves, didn't Bundy represent himself? Do I have
- 19:13Speaker 2: that right? I don't know.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I think so. And he was he's been tied to
- 19:20Speaker 1: at least 30 murders. I think he admitted to a
- 19:23Speaker 1: few after the conviction while he was.
- 19:24Speaker 2: On death row.
- 19:26Speaker 6: Wow. Yes, he acted as his own defense attorney.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Yeah. And I think it was Anne Rice who interviewed
- 19:30Speaker 1: him a bunch of times, if I'm not mistaken on
- 19:32Speaker 1: that one. She wrote the Vampire series.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Really?
- 19:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:37Speaker 2: She was the one that interviewed him? Yeah.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Probably produced the most extensive information about him after he
- 19:46Speaker 1: was convicted during prison.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And I think I have that right.
- 19:49Speaker 5: You'd think they'd give up every name or every situation
- 19:52Speaker 5: just for closure.
- 19:53Speaker 2: You would.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I don't think he ever, ever experienced any closure. This
- 19:58Speaker 1: guy was such a psychopath, sociopath, that he just, I
- 20:02Speaker 1: don't think he cared at all.
- 20:04Speaker 2: And very good looking. And he also, a lot of charisma.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Ah.
- 20:10Speaker 2: A lot of good hair, very depressing. Okay, moving on.
- 20:15Speaker 5: The FBI searched Beverly Hills Mansion this week on Tuesday.
- 20:19Speaker 5: This is all connected to an investigation into former representative
- 20:24Speaker 5: Eric Swalwell. And two people that are familiar with this
- 20:28Speaker 5: probe apparently said the home was owned by Swalwell, a
- 20:33Speaker 5: Swalwell donor rather. And the FBI in a statement to
- 20:36Speaker 5: CNN said the agency ran... An operation in the Los
- 20:40Speaker 5: Angeles region related to an ongoing criminal investigation, but they
- 20:44Speaker 5: didn't give any other information.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Yeah, the home was owned by Steve or is owned
- 20:48Speaker 1: by Steve Klubeck, who ran for governor. We had him
- 20:51Speaker 1: on the show, by the way, interviewed Steve and he
- 20:54Speaker 1: made a developer. And I think he owns a series
- 20:58Speaker 1: of resorts around the country. And very wealthy. And he
- 21:03Speaker 1: backed up Selwell until this whole thing went south. And
- 21:06Speaker 1: he made it very clear that as soon as he
- 21:08Speaker 1: found out, he got out of Dodge. And he was
- 21:12Speaker 1: fairly vehement about that because he was interviewed yesterday. He goes, hey, man,
- 21:15Speaker 1: as soon as I found out, I'm done. I have
- 21:17Speaker 1: nothing more to do with him. Now, we'll see what happens,
- 21:21Speaker 1: what the FBI picked up, whatever information from the House.
- 21:24Speaker 6: Still searching for answers. Alex Preti's parents have accused the
- 21:29Speaker 6: Department of Justice of violating their rights as they demand
- 21:34Speaker 6: transparency and justice in their son's death. Now, Alex Preti
- 21:37Speaker 6: was shot and killed during immigration protests in Minneapolis back
- 21:42Speaker 6: in January. The parents say they still have not received
- 21:46Speaker 6: any substantive updates from the DOJ. about its investigation into
- 21:51Speaker 6: their son's death and called the department's attitude about it cruel.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Hey, has any one of these agents been held accountable
- 22:00Speaker 1: or I assume they've been investigated, but I think the
- 22:04Speaker 1: DOJ has not gone forward very quickly with investigating or
- 22:09Speaker 1: holding these shootings, holding agents responsible for these shootings.
- 22:13Speaker 5: It's a lot of contention, particularly Minneapolis, big time. Whatever
- 22:16Speaker 5: they're doing, it seems to be on the DL.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Yeah, they're trying to calm it really down. I mean,
- 22:22Speaker 1: the arrests and the deportations are going along gangbusters. There
- 22:26Speaker 1: are balls to the wall on that. It's just that
- 22:29Speaker 1: they're going exactly the way you say. It's really low
- 22:33Speaker 1: key in terms of the publicity around it.
- 22:37Speaker 2: They're trying to keep it as quiet as possible. All right.
- 22:41Speaker 5: The Federal Election Commission electronic filing system has been down
- 22:46Speaker 5: for hours and hours on Tuesday. So a spokesperson came out,
- 22:50Speaker 5: confirmed the agency's IT team obviously is trying to restore
- 22:54Speaker 5: everything back to service. And, you know, that's goes with
- 22:59Speaker 5: the territory. I guess it's just one of those things
- 23:01Speaker 5: where when you're using electronics, things can go bad. They
- 23:05Speaker 5: are investigating the issue. And obviously these things tend to
- 23:11Speaker 5: happen when they're doing updating. Whenever they're updating something, software, firmware, whatever,
- 23:16Speaker 5: but they're working on restoring the service.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Are we backing up now? Are we backing up?
- 23:21Speaker 5: Are we back and up now that it is Wednesday?
- 23:24Speaker 5: This happened yesterday.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Oh.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Monday night into Tuesday. I have absolutely no idea, but
- 23:31Speaker 2: thanks for asking.
- 23:33Speaker 3: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 23:40Speaker 1: OK, let's finish up Handel on the news with Amy,
- 23:44Speaker 1: Neil and me.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Looks like a bad apple's been busted.
- 23:47Speaker 1: An L.A.
- 23:48Speaker 6: Police officer is suspected of trying to meet up with
- 23:52Speaker 6: an underage girl for what's being called lewd purposes. The
- 23:56Speaker 6: officer was taken into custody by police in Monrovia after
- 24:00Speaker 6: a group, calling itself YN versus Preds, recorded video apparently
- 24:05Speaker 6: showing the officer being chased and held down. It posted
- 24:09Speaker 6: the video on Instagram. They basically trapped the officer in
- 24:15Speaker 6: a predator sting operation.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I have a question.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I don't, you know, I mean, these guys obviously are
- 24:21Speaker 1: perverts and predators, but who is going to go on
- 24:26Speaker 1: a predator website to meet a minor and And not
- 24:31Speaker 1: figure this could be a sting. Why would you ever
- 24:34Speaker 1: do that? I imagine they're not in their right mind. Yeah,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I would think so. Well, no, they're perverts. No, I
- 24:41Speaker 1: think they're in the right mind when they do this.
- 24:43Speaker 2: No, but the.
- 24:44Speaker 5: Compulsion is what I'm saying moves them to not think reasonably.
- 24:48Speaker 2: And that's legit. The possibility is. I'll buy that. I'll
- 24:52Speaker 2: buy that. I had a friend who worked.
- 24:53Speaker 5: For the FBI in crimes against children, and he would
- 24:58Speaker 5: say that sometimes these things backfire and end up making
- 25:02Speaker 5: it problematic for them to be able to prosecute.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the same friend that we had. And
- 25:11Speaker 2: I said, how difficult is it to find these guys?
- 25:13Speaker 2: And he said, it's like– It's like catching fish in
- 25:15Speaker 2: a barrel, like shooting fish in a barrel. That's how
- 25:17Speaker 2: many there are out there.
- 25:18Speaker 5: And there are lawyers and doctors and cops and everything.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah, crazy.
- 25:24Speaker 1: All righty.
- 25:24Speaker 5: A group of 13 killer whales. You heard Amy talking
- 25:27Speaker 5: about this during the break. Just gave passengers, could you
- 25:31Speaker 5: imagine on a Southern California whale watching boat, the best
- 25:34Speaker 5: experience in the world. I guess they call this mugging.
- 25:38Speaker 5: It's not considered aggressive, but... But you had these 13
- 25:42Speaker 5: killer whales just getting very close, swimming directly up to
- 25:47Speaker 5: the vessel. And these were orcas, you know, which are
- 25:51Speaker 5: in the dolphin family.
- 25:53Speaker 2: And they're just big, beautiful creatures. And if you've ever...
- 25:56Speaker 2: It's called mugging.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Does that take the fins being put in their mouths
- 26:00Speaker 1: and then they pull to make those weird faces?
- 26:04Speaker 5: No, they pull guns and then they take your wallet.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I feel better now.
- 26:08Speaker 5: You know, when we had this happen was in the Galapagos,
- 26:11Speaker 5: I think is where we were. And they came up
- 26:13Speaker 5: to your little zodiac that you take to the islands
- 26:18Speaker 5: and the pods swim alongside.
- 26:21Speaker 2: It's intimidating. They're massive, but beautiful. Wow.
- 26:25Speaker 6: Too many people are enjoying the Hollywood sign. A group
- 26:28Speaker 6: of residents in L.A. have filed a public nuisance complaint
- 26:31Speaker 6: over visitors gathering at the sign. The complaint... claims the
- 26:36Speaker 6: city of Los Angeles has allowed conditions on the streets
- 26:39Speaker 6: surrounding the sign to become a public nuisance to the
- 26:42Speaker 6: point of putting residents' safety at risk.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And there's a little history there, and I'm going to
- 26:47Speaker 1: cover this at 7.50. And complaints are totally legitimate and
- 26:53Speaker 1: see what's going on. And the history of not only
- 26:56Speaker 1: the sign, but also of people going up there and
- 26:59Speaker 1: photographing themselves in front of the sign.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Yeah, you can't get too close to it. But these roads,
- 27:05Speaker 5: they've been battling this forever.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Years.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:09Speaker 2: All right. Judge finds L.A.
- 27:10Speaker 5: 's top federal prosecutor is unlawfully serving. So explain this, Bill.
- 27:16Speaker 5: You've got this. Saley, they say, is unlawfully serving as
- 27:21Speaker 5: a de facto United States attorney.
- 27:24Speaker 2: So just Tuesday.
- 27:26Speaker 5: Ruled that bill assaili is um kind of just in
- 27:31Speaker 5: a position that has not been yeah it's.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Like what happened it's like what happened back east this
- 27:36Speaker 1: is a senate confirmation the senate will not confirm or
- 27:39Speaker 1: uh the the dog just goes uh beyond that and
- 27:44Speaker 1: just says we don't care and so you have these
- 27:46Speaker 1: assistant U.S.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Attorneys who are they're.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Not supposed to be the U.S. attorney in that area.
- 27:54Speaker 1: They become the U.S.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Attorney.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Remember what was that Hallibrand or what was the one
- 27:58Speaker 1: back east in Virginia? What her name was. And she
- 28:03Speaker 1: was tossed off several cases because the same thing happened.
- 28:07Speaker 2: And that's what's happening now. Yeah. Yeah. The rules are
- 28:10Speaker 2: simply not being followed. That's all.
- 28:13Speaker 6: You know, it's not only the housing market that's suffering
- 28:16Speaker 6: under high interest rates. It's some of the stuff that
- 28:18Speaker 6: goes in your house, too. Appliance shoppers obviously aren't buying
- 28:23Speaker 6: many appliances. And Whirlpool is paying the price. The struggling
- 28:27Speaker 6: appliance maker announced that it expects a full year loss
- 28:29Speaker 6: of $ 1. 30 per share. And it's just saying that high
- 28:33Speaker 6: interest rates are continuing to suppress home sales. And when
- 28:36Speaker 6: people don't buy new homes, they're not buying new washers
- 28:39Speaker 6: and dryers and refrigerators for those homes.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and the story goes on to say it tried
- 28:44Speaker 1: to make it up with higher prices and cost cutting,
- 28:50Speaker 1: but couldn't do it. Too much of a disparity between
- 28:54Speaker 1: what people were buying, the prices, et cetera. It's just
- 28:57Speaker 1: the economy, but for AI, is really tottering.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Teetering, tottering. Teetering.
- 29:03Speaker 5: I was listening to Dean Sharp the other day. He
- 29:06Speaker 5: changed his name to the apartment whisperer. It's gotten so bad.
- 29:12Speaker 5: Tip your waitress, everybody.
- 29:13Speaker 2: No, that's right.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Not bad.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Not bad. Yeah, I mean, you've done better, but not much. Okay,
- 29:18Speaker 2: we're done, guys.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Coming up, what happened in Israel yesterday, and what does
- 29:24Speaker 1: it affect us? But it's really interesting, the whole makeup
- 29:28Speaker 1: of Israeli politics, and I'll share that with you when
- 29:31Speaker 1: we come back.
- 29:32Speaker 2: This is KFI AM 640.
- 29:35Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 29:37Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and
- 29:40Speaker 1: anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
