- 0:00Enough is enough i have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking
- 0:07plane everybody strap in i'm about to open some fucking windows,
- 0:14hey everybody this is kieran your very kind and gracious host of citizen frame
- 0:23thanks general front back and some people's opinion are you your own and not
- 0:29everybody the answers, but anyway, go ahead.
- 0:31Today's a sad day. That's right.
- 0:34Yeah, even though it's, you know, Manchester's playing today,
- 0:37so I don't know if it's going to be a sad day as of yet.
- 0:41But today is the end of Plain Month.
- 0:44Yeah. This is emotional stuff. It's been such a rollercoaster journey,
- 0:49you know, an emotional journey.
- 0:51You know, we've had the highs, the lows, the excitement, the drama.
- 0:56What's the What films are you watching? Kurt Russell fly out of plane.
- 1:01You know, Nicholas Cage season today. I'll tell you what,
- 1:06Kurt Russell flying the plane makes a lot more sense than what we get on this next film.
- 1:10Oh, dear. Yeah. Yeah. We're here to talk Snakes on a Plane. So far,
- 1:16Playmont's been pretty good. We've endorsed all the films.
- 1:19Actually, quite stellar passes. Yeah. But we might hit a roadblock here.
- 1:24We're going to see here Snakes on a Plane.
- 1:28It's the first film that I did read up on a bit where the lead actor,
- 1:33Samuel Jackson, says he wouldn't do the film. if they change the name.
- 1:38Yes, I heard that. Apparently his agent said that he was wanting them to take
- 1:42it on if they changed the name or they were going to accept it for him.
- 1:46But it was Samuel L. Jackson said, no, he wants the name kept.
- 1:50He loves it. It's pretty much straightforward.
- 1:54Gee, what's this movie about? Hmm. Well, the title's probably the best thing
- 1:58about the film, but anyway.
- 2:00This was directed by a stuntman, David Ellis, who's a stuntman early in his
- 2:05career and he started directing in the early 2000s.
- 2:08Died suddenly of a heart attack at the age 60, which is sad.
- 2:11I kind of like some of his stuff. He introduced us to Jason Statham in the States,
- 2:16with a little film called Cellular, which I really enjoyed.
- 2:18You guys should check it out. It's pretty good. It's with young Chris Evans,
- 2:22Jason Statham, and Kid Basinger.
- 2:23It's actually a pretty decent little film. Implausible, but what the heck.
- 2:27And he did Final Destination 2, which is probably one of the better received ones.
- 2:32Whoa, whoa, whoa. Can I just stop you there? an implausible Jason Statham film
- 2:36no way, no I won't have it Jason Statham,
- 2:42that's pretty good yeah I actually thought I was doing a podcast with Jason
- 2:46Statham there that was that good you know.
- 2:51That's pretty good I've retired X-Forces and I'm out for revenge against an
- 2:58evil criminal people smuggling gang in every single film don't give a fuck it's
- 3:03Jason Statham I'm gonna see it,
- 3:06alright and don't forget big sharks,
- 3:10Oh, yeah, absolutely. Well, the Meg, yeah. People smugglers and big sharks,
- 3:14beware. Jason's after you.
- 3:17All right, Steaks on a Plane had a lot of things going for it.
- 3:22It really started making buzz on the internet, and people really wanted to see this film.
- 3:28In fact, it went from a PG-13 to an R because of that.
- 3:31They felt that the core audience is going to want to see some good gore and
- 3:35so forth, so they upped the nudity and gore so they can get that R rating,
- 3:40which is usually the opposite.
- 3:42Usually they want a PG-13 to get more asses in the chair.
- 3:45But in this case, they reversed it. It bombed on them. Didn't work. Movie tanked.
- 3:50Plus $35 million to make. It made $33 million in the US.
- 3:53$60 worldwide. But keep in mind, worldwide just means nothing.
- 3:59They pretty much- Well, you have to take on the account promotion. Yeah.
- 4:02You have to pretty much double your profit, double your budget.
- 4:08And also, when I say worldwide, different production companies take over the distribution rights.
- 4:16So Paramount doesn't see every dime of that. Long story short, it was a failure.
- 4:22Here's the issue for me.
- 4:27You cannot intentionally go out to make a cult classic. Cult classics happen by accident.
- 4:33So there's been a spate of the Sharknado films.
- 4:38There was even one recently I watched, which was terrible, called Bad CGI Gator.
- 4:44And it's like they're trying too hard to make a cult classic.
- 4:48Cult classics happen by accident.
- 4:50You cannot intentionally go out to make a cult classic. And also cult classics
- 4:54are actually films that were received poorly.
- 4:58Are you serious? Were received poorly, but then as it progressed on the DVD
- 5:05and so forth, people start seeing it from a different persona,
- 5:08different eyes, I guess you can say, and they see a different film and they're actually respected.
- 5:14Like Blade Runner and The Thing are the two ones I always go to for that and
- 5:20this would never be a cult classic. No.
- 5:24But that guy I think we're starting off on the wrong foot here.
- 5:27I think we're bad mouthing it. I'm going to be honest with you.
- 5:29I'm not going to tear this to shreds.
- 5:32It has some mirth. It's got some decent points that I've listed two or three of them.
- 5:41Let's just jump into it and then we'll explain more on what a cult classic is.
- 5:46But when I think cult classic, I think The Thing. I think Big Trouble in Old
- 5:50China. I think John Carpenter. I think, I don't think Stakes on the fucking Plains.
- 5:54Yeah, I mean it's, and again I expect it's very difficult to make cult classics
- 6:01in the modern era as well where things are so slick and polished anyway. You know what I mean?
- 6:08We'll get to it. Yeah, I think the age of cult classics are done.
- 6:11Yeah i agree i think they're gone now yeah but uh
- 6:14maybe that's a good thing because if people put
- 6:18snakes on a plane as a cult classic i'd be pissed yeah and also you know films
- 6:24that have become cult classics are usually played straight you know i'm not
- 6:29talking about the thing or blade runner which are actually very well made i'm
- 6:32not talking about more sort of b-movie sort of, you know,
- 6:36cult sort of cheesy fur. Like Ed Wood.
- 6:39Yeah, well he was playing that straight believe it or not, you know,
- 6:43with Glenn or Glenda and Plan 9 from Outer Space and stuff.
- 6:46That's why he deserves to be a cult because there's a charm to that.
- 6:50Exactly. Yeah. I just watched Ed Wood the other day.
- 6:56Brilliant. Yeah, I love it. Yeah. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. Yeah.
- 7:00All right. So here's the one thing that the movie gets wrong. No, CGI is not bad here.
- 7:07Even it's early 2000s. It's about 2000, whatever year it was.
- 7:10And so CGI is fair. They actually mix real snakes here? Yeah, they do.
- 7:15450 are real snakes, including a 22-foot python named Kitty.
- 7:20Um that fucking pythons that terrify me
- 7:24and all the snakes that they put in there
- 7:26are non-venomous the only ones they put in
- 7:29no shit yeah i know the only ones they they cgi
- 7:32the venomous snakes there's a problem if i'm
- 7:35going to see a film i have huge fear of
- 7:38snakes they scare the fuck
- 7:41out of me they terrify me now
- 7:44i'm not saying they open up door in the
- 7:47bathroom the snake pops out that's a cheap okay i'm talking
- 7:50like just seeing on the screen i will shit myself i terrified
- 7:54of snakes is that you trying to be indiana jones
- 7:57yeah because of harrison ford yeah well like
- 7:59if i if i look down there and i saw with salad
- 8:02i say oh look it's snakes okay i'd be
- 8:05like i'm not going down there fuck fuck the fuck the ark i
- 8:08don't need i'm not getting there fuck it i i don't
- 8:12mind snakes i mean i have had snakes wrapped around my neck and i mean obviously
- 8:16non-venomous saying that I wouldn't fancy running into a big giant boa constricta
- 8:21you know or any sort of poisonous venomous snake but you know yeah I don't mind them but my point is.
- 8:30It's kind of like people who watch the movie Fall, wonderful little independent
- 8:33film. We'll probably get to it. People should see it. But if you're afraid of
- 8:36heights, that movie's going to terrify you.
- 8:38It's going to terrify you. Do you get where I'm going with this?
- 8:41This movie does not terrify me at all.
- 8:44All right? Okay. The boa scene creeped the fuck out of me. It gets a massive
- 8:48pass from the boa scene. It is terrifying.
- 8:51And that's why I hate snakes, because of what they do and what they can do.
- 8:56And so that, but we'll jump into it.
- 8:59It doesn't have the bite it should pardon the pun,
- 9:03but I'm actually going to defend most probably about 75% of this film and we'll see why,
- 9:12that was a long intro but I don't give a fuck okay let's do it alright we got
- 9:16Samuel Jackson, Juliana Marguerite, Nathan Phillips, Bobby Cannavel, David Kosher,
- 9:22they play Neville, Claire Sean, Hank and Rick and a bunch of other misfits called
- 9:27Mercedes 3G's, Troy, Leroy, Grace, Ken, Tiffany, Chen, and Maria.
- 9:33Maria, we all know, is Thor's wife.
- 9:36Yes, we reviewed a film of hers about three years ago.
- 9:40That straight to Netflix piece of shit. I enjoyed it, remember?
- 9:43I knew what it was. Interceptor or something.
- 9:47I like it. Is it Ilsa Pataki? Something like that.
- 9:52She's also in, which we reviewed recently, Furiosa. Yeah, well,
- 9:56she does a lot of stuff with her husband. So if he's in it, she's in it, usually.
- 10:00Better nepotism, but yes. I like him. You seem like a nice couple.
- 10:04No, I like him. Yeah, I mean, I don't really know much about her, but yes.
- 10:08Give him credit what credits do.
- 10:11Well, he did start off in Home on Away, the Australian soup opera.
- 10:14But you know. Fuck right off.
- 10:17I'm surprised you didn't say Nathan Phillips. He's Australian.
- 10:21Right. Well, I was just getting the left. Wow, you didn't even look him up, did you?
- 10:24Didn't even look him up if he was in Neighbors. Way to go, neighbor boy.
- 10:29I apologize to all Neighbors fans for my great feelings. Wow.
- 10:33A lead Australian actor in this film, and you didn't even know that.
- 10:37Wow. Every Australian actor was at Neighbors, and if they weren't,
- 10:41then there's something wrong. I don't know. I didn't look up Nathan Phillips, but I'm sure he was.
- 10:44All Australians have to do their time in Neighbors or Home and Away. Exactly.
- 10:48The trenches, yeah. Our prisoner's cell blockage.
- 10:52All right. So the plot's quite simple. We got our boy, Sean,
- 10:57who witnesses what could have been
- 10:58a brutal execution. You don't see it on screen, but it's pretty brutal.
- 11:02It's quite brutal, yeah. Yeah, beaten by a bat, and he's got to be taken into
- 11:07custody of John Sanders and Neville.
- 11:09They're going to fly him to testify in L.A. from Hawaii to L.A.,
- 11:13and the bad guy, instead of shooting them,
- 11:17doing whatever they can to try to get them, they decide they're going to put
- 11:20highly aggressive snakes in the plane and a special pheromone that causes them
- 11:28to want to just fucking go batshit crazy.
- 11:30What a completely convoluted, you know, why didn't they just shoot the guy, you know?
- 11:35I think because we had that one scene, they show you that one little scene where
- 11:39he's getting gunned down and then Neville saves his life and he tells him this
- 11:44is going to go on and on if you don't do what we tell you.
- 11:47You know what this film really lacks and it did bug me?
- 11:52The human villain who just disappears once we get on the plane,
- 11:55completely. I know, we needed to see him get it.
- 11:58Yeah, big time. I don't care. He disappears completely. He's a decent villain,
- 12:02too. I mean, yeah. For what we do see of him. He's in there for like five minutes.
- 12:05Yeah, but he's quite decent. And what I don't get is we end with a surfing scene,
- 12:11but we don't end with him going, at least seeing him, he's guilty.
- 12:15There's no resolution. Yeah.
- 12:17Show him. Not Hank on screen going, get the arrest warrant for him.
- 12:22He's going to do life and prison. Does he want gas or the electric chair?
- 12:25You know? There's no resolution. There's nothing.
- 12:28Yeah. All right, but we're jumping way ahead there. Sorry, go ahead.
- 12:31So we get ourselves to the plane. We meet Claire, Tiffany, Grace,
- 12:34and Ken. They're the flight attendants. Actually, they're likable.
- 12:37That's one thing I'll say about this.
- 12:39Most of the characters are kind of likable. I kind of like that one in it.
- 12:41Yeah. Especially the prick.
- 12:44Oh, the English guy? Yeah. Well, he was, I mean, he is always going to die a
- 12:48horrible death. Oh, you knew that. But I love how he goes out.
- 12:52Well, I like how you meet, like you meet Troy in 3G. Troy, he's pretty funny.
- 12:57He's a comedian. Keenan Thompson, I think his name is.
- 13:00Okay. Yes. I remember. Burger. He was on Good Burger, a Nickelodeon guy. Yeah.
- 13:05I wouldn't have been a kid, but I would have been like in my sort of twenties.
- 13:09And there was a show of his over here that we had obviously imported from America
- 13:14called Keenan and Kale, but it was a kid's program.
- 13:17But I just remember vaguely sort of catching glimpses of it.
- 13:21I'm finding it deeply annoying.
- 13:23Yeah. Nickelodeon kid. Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:26Yeah, you got some of the characters that are kind of stupid,
- 13:28like Mercedes, and you've got the germaphobe, which is 3G, but he's quite good at it.
- 13:37Yeah, he actually has a pretty good scene near the end there.
- 13:42And so the FBI has to take over first class, and they have to put the first class in.
- 13:46There's some very funny lines, like when they tell the fucking snob,
- 13:51first class is booked up, you have to go sit and coach. and he makes,
- 13:56well, these little coupons aren't going to get me to my meeting in time.
- 14:01And then Claire says, well, I think coach will get there at the same time as first class.
- 14:06Stuff like that. It's kind of not bad. Not bad. It's got some pretty good lines.
- 14:12I wasn't pecking my ribs off the floor, let's just say, but patiently.
- 14:15It's smart enough dialogue.
- 14:17Claire's character kind of would be like that to somebody like that.
- 14:22Yeah, sarcastic. and then when Mercedes goes oh you have to go to coach and
- 14:26Mercedes goes oh my god is it
- 14:27safe you know stuff like that I chuckled because you can see some of the,
- 14:33rich pricks behaving like that oh totally 100% I mean I think anyone who works
- 14:40in customer service would agree with that in any way you know so yes once we
- 14:46get on the plane you got the cliches that you want to get rid of and this is
- 14:49the part of the movie I do not like I don't like the over-the-top humor.
- 14:53The couple having sex, getting attacked by snakes, thought was stupid.
- 14:56The guy taking a piss, getting his dick bitten by the snake,
- 15:02I thought was fucking stupid.
- 15:03The snake going up a girl's, a woman's dress.
- 15:05All this is cliche. You know this all was going to happen. It was almost like
- 15:09they did a data dump of cliches in the first.
- 15:12Because it takes about 40 minutes for this, all the really shit to hit the fan.
- 15:16And so you're meeting all these different characters.
- 15:20But once the 40 minutes hits, once everything goes to fuck, it turns for me.
- 15:28It turns into a lot competent film than the first act. The first act was too much, too silliness.
- 15:35And I'm assuming that was the intent of the director. We're going to show something
- 15:39fun, you know, have a good laugh, some boobie shots.
- 15:42Ha, ha, ha, isn't that funny? And then they up the game once the snakes take over.
- 15:47And so you kind of get two films in
- 15:50one which i do like the double genre yeah what really
- 15:53helps the film is the one part well
- 15:56they're all very good they're all good at what they do here they're all
- 15:59competent actors they're not bad actors actually and they're pretty good but
- 16:02it's samuel jackson and the reason samuel jackson pulls it off he's he's playing
- 16:07it like he's doing shakespeare that's obviously he knows what he's doing he's
- 16:11doing this so dead straight and every line he gives is like he's giving an Oscar winning performance.
- 16:17And that's the saving grace is Samuel L. Jackson.
- 16:21For me with Samuel L. Jackson, although regarding his acting on it,
- 16:25I think he is a little bit phoning it in.
- 16:28It's his presence that totally, I think saves it actually, the film.
- 16:32Essentially, it's Samuel L. Jackson looking to kill motherfucking snakes, you know?
- 16:36And that does save it for me. If it had been any other actor,
- 16:40I don't know if it would have won. I don't think any other actor would have taken the role.
- 16:44Well this is it you know i mean he was he was at
- 16:47this point he was you know fresh out of starring in the
- 16:49star wars prequels and stuff so yeah samuel's
- 16:53presence alone saves us i think well i think a lot of it
- 16:56is saved on the second act the first act is just throw away the first act would
- 17:02have been done would it would have been better if it was directed by corman
- 17:05yeah corman can do it better we talked about the bonnet alligator the subtle
- 17:10humor works better than films than it did in this. Once they take away the humor.
- 17:16We get more of a series. And it shows. I do like the fact. Yeah.
- 17:19Edwin is in peril. I like the fact the kid got bit, little fucker.
- 17:23I like. Those kids were pretty annoying. I love the fact when the dog gets kicked
- 17:27into the python. That was fucking hilarious.
- 17:29But I can't stand, you know, people and their fucking pets. There's actually
- 17:33quite an emotional send off for the Lin Shay character.
- 17:37You know, the teacher from Nightmare on Elm Street. Yeah. You know,
- 17:40she's like, it's the whole sort of cop.
- 17:44Last day before retirement. Cliché, but they're doing it with an ear hostess, i.e. her.
- 17:48This is her last flight before retirement, and she ends up sort of sacrificing herself for a baby.
- 17:55So it's a good little character arc. Yeah, you have a couple of those.
- 17:59You have it with, not Sam and Jack, I do like, I go back to the cliche of,
- 18:04I'm retiring soon, you know she's dead.
- 18:07Then you have Sam and Jack's partner, and there's a line with Sam and Jack goes,
- 18:10he's the bravest man I've ever known. Well, you know, he's dead.
- 18:14Stuff like that even the dipshit.
- 18:20Rapper 3G's he has a bit of a tiny character arc
- 18:23where he's a complete prick throughout the whole film but then eventually he
- 18:27turns around and apologises you know after he's been sort of basically being
- 18:31an asshole and pushing people around it's not the greatest character arc in
- 18:34the world you know don't get me wrong but at least it's something and then he's
- 18:38also got decent characters because in all fairness besides the guy who kicks the dog which is funny,
- 18:43you they're all there to help each other you meet chen he's
- 18:45that kickboxer guy who is and he
- 18:48ends up saving i think mercedes and he yes the arhost yeah he puts her on her
- 18:54on his back and gets her through the alley through the uh through the aisle
- 18:57so they're all decent even ken who i thought would be kind of annoying the guy
- 19:01you think is kind of he's playing kind of gay and yes the whole time you don't
- 19:05know if he's gay or not but,
- 19:07And his character actually, I thought would be annoying, but again,
- 19:11the second act, he turns it around.
- 19:13I love when he takes the snake and he throws it in the microwave.
- 19:16Yeah, yeah. And I love that death because I fucking hate snakes.
- 19:19But did you see the setting in the microwave?
- 19:21No, what was the setting? There's a snake setting. Was there right? I must have.
- 19:26I had to read up on it to catch it myself. Right. But pretty funny,
- 19:30actually. I didn't see it.
- 19:32I like the fact you were introduced to a couple you thought would be more in
- 19:35it. The newlywed couple, the one that was afraid of flying.
- 19:38They died quite quickly? Yeah. They get it pretty quickly. So some of the characters
- 19:42you are introduced to from the beginning get it pretty quick.
- 19:46And there's a big body count. A lot of films don't have a lot of body count.
- 19:51And they show you most of the bites and most of the deaths, especially when
- 19:54the shit hits the fan and what they look like after.
- 19:57And they did their homework because I was questioning, wait,
- 20:01why is this person not dying?
- 20:03Different snakes? different yeah exactly different
- 20:07strengths of venom cobra all you pretty much just suck
- 20:09that out and that's what i believe she does to the the boy to get his swelling
- 20:15down that's right and then you have uh and then the i like the idea they're
- 20:19using phones and even back then phones weren't really available but that is
- 20:23well camera phones and the email and so now they're taking pictures just,
- 20:28Yeah, they're taking pictures of the snakes so they can show the snake experts
- 20:31in LA what they look like, what kind of venom, what kind of antidote they need.
- 20:37I thought that was all very clever and fun.
- 20:40There's some good ingredients here, but I would have liked to have seen more of the kickboxer guy.
- 20:46I thought he was quite a good character. I don't think we've seen enough of
- 20:49him. I wanted him to do more, basically more kickboxing to a snake,
- 20:53like a roundhouse kick to a snake or something.
- 20:56I think there should have been with the lead, the rest of the cast that we get
- 21:01in the second act when they're all kind of isolating themselves away from the snakes.
- 21:06Besides some, you know, extras that get sucked at, that get bitten when they start attacking again.
- 21:14Some, like, not Troy, but maybe even G and maybe Mercedes.
- 21:21We need some of the main characters to get it. Now, we did see it when the stewardess
- 21:26got it, Lynn Shea, and, you know, but, like, sacrifice Ken.
- 21:34Up the ante. Even though they do give us good body count, some of the body counts
- 21:38should have been the regulars.
- 21:39Yeah. I mean, it ups the tension. So there is a lack of tension here,
- 21:43I would say, overall, in terms of the direction.
- 21:46You know, I wanted more tension, essentially, and more stakes,
- 21:52and that would have happened like you say, with killing off one of the bigger, more main characters?
- 21:59Fuck. Even Samuel Jackson.
- 22:01You know, I mean, he did it. Well, maybe not so much mirroring Deep Blue Sea.
- 22:07Get these motherfucking planes up, get these motherfucking snakes off the motherfucking
- 22:11plane, you know, and then he gets attacked by the boa.
- 22:14Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, definitely, even his partner's death,
- 22:19because we weren't that invested in the character, because we don't see hardly
- 22:23anything of him, it doesn't really have that emotional impact.
- 22:26And Snape's on a plane, I'm not talking like high stuff, you know,
- 22:29in terms of emotional impact, but it would have helped more if we had,
- 22:33you know, learnt more about that character and sort of spent more time with
- 22:38that character before he gets bumped off.
- 22:40So there is a lack of, it does lack that emotional punch. again,
- 22:43we're talking snakes in a plane here but still, you know, with bigger sort of
- 22:47action films and some of the more classic action films, there always is an emotional
- 22:53aspect to them, which is lacking here.
- 22:55Yes, we'll have the Lin Shay thing, but that's probably about the height of it Yeah, but it's now,
- 23:0140 minutes, and I think they do that with the Lin Shay character and with Maria's
- 23:07character helping the boy so I do think they do actually do a pretty good job
- 23:12of doing that without sugarcoating the whole film like that.
- 23:16They do give us a couple different characters that do self-sacrifice or do help
- 23:21the others, like we saw with Chen.
- 23:23So I do think we do get that, believe it or not, with this film.
- 23:27And this is why this movie's getting a pass from me, because the second act
- 23:30gives us everything that snakes in the plane should have been.
- 23:33That first act was like this.
- 23:36I think it was too tongue-in-cheek in the first act. If you made that a little
- 23:39bit darker, we would have had something.
- 23:42Really good. We do get a bit of it. I was just looking more, essentially.
- 23:47Well, then we're just watching a, well, putting in your words,
- 23:50a fucking neighbor's episode with snakes.
- 23:53Good one. I like little things. I like when Claire, they're all talking,
- 23:58and Claire sees the can of Coke
- 24:00rolling right there. She knows something's wrong with the plane. Yeah.
- 24:03We're not straight here. So I do love the fact this is the best part of the
- 24:09whole film. The fucker is Neville.
- 24:13They know something's wrong with the plane. They know the pilot's been bit, so he might be dead.
- 24:17So they can't get in because it's a failsafe door. You can't get in. Yeah.
- 24:22Right? And so he takes his little knife and gets in. I'm like, oh, fuck.
- 24:28You're not getting in. But my favorite death, and it terrified me.
- 24:33I looked away. I rewilded to watch it again is when the prick,
- 24:38as he kicks Machetti's dog.
- 24:40He gets bitten by the python and it shows what a python does.
- 24:44It wraps him and then you can see him suffocating. It goes right over his head.
- 24:48Just off screen. Just off screen. It's terrifying.
- 24:52You see the mouth of the snake open. I'm getting chills just saying this.
- 24:56And it starts devouring his... Yeah.
- 24:59Well, it doesn't look like that earlier on as well.
- 25:02But yes, it is the best. It's certainly the best death by a long stretch.
- 25:06But because he was the biggest asshole in the film He was always going to get
- 25:09the worst death So they're giving us that So that is expected But it is a good
- 25:14death and the best one in the film,
- 25:18And Mercedes is talking to the fucking kid, right? The kid, the kid and the brother who got bit.
- 25:22And she goes, what are you drawing there? And he's drawing a cobra.
- 25:25It's like, what the fuck? If I was here, I'd go, fuck you, kid.
- 25:28Why are you drawing these fuckers?
- 25:29Yeah, we're fucking, we're trying to save our lives. We're fighting these fuckers
- 25:33and you're drawing pictures of them. But that works later on.
- 25:35That comes into play later on. I know.
- 25:37I know. I know. What steak bit your brother?
- 25:41Oh, I drew him. I was like, oh, fuck. Yeah, I know. It is a bit sort of convenient, let's just say.
- 25:46But yeah but it stays on a plane.
- 25:51For a film that has a lot of deaths, some gore, some lot of swearing,
- 25:55some tits, some sex some guy getting his penis bit it has a lot of Disney moments,
- 26:01well I suppose they're trying to strike a balance between the sort of emotional
- 26:05heart, even though I was just saying earlier on that I don't think they quite
- 26:08capture it, but I think they were essentially trying to basically have that
- 26:13balance between the emotional,
- 26:15scenes and And also, you know, the crazy stuff with the snakes basically attacking
- 26:20people and, you know, you know, basically biting people's dicks off and all the rest.
- 26:27I do like the fact that he decides to shoot. There's a scene where he decides
- 26:31he's going to shoot the window and suck all the snakes out. It works.
- 26:36You see the boa going out.
- 26:37It's quite, it's quite funny. In fact, it works. But I think it's funny where,
- 26:42guys, strap you down, strap down, make sure you're not going to be sucked out, whatever.
- 26:47And yet, he shoots the window right around where people are sitting.
- 26:51Yeah, exactly where they're sitting.
- 26:53Why did you guys move on the other side of the plane first? Put your seatbelts on for the start.
- 26:57That would help. Yeah, get your seatbelts on. You got fucking Sean who's wrapped
- 27:01a piece of rope around underneath the chair. Where the fuck are you going with this, son? Yeah.
- 27:07But in fact, in the little scene, it does work. and when they land the plane,
- 27:11I do like my jump scare and the jump scare is pretty good when Sean gets bitten
- 27:14by a snake and he shoots him now when Neville shoots Sean I knew right away
- 27:19he had a bulletproof vest,
- 27:20but it's more about the jump scare of the snake.
- 27:23What I did find really stupid and irritating was whenever the guy from Keenan
- 27:27and Kel I don't know which one it is they get him to land a plane because he's
- 27:32played it on a computer game or he's good at landing planes on a computer game
- 27:36you know I get what the word what they were you know doing it's all meant to
- 27:40be tongue and cheek and a bit silly
- 27:41but it was just a bit annoying you know,
- 27:46Yeah, but they kind of do play on that. The guy who's giving him instructions
- 27:51tells them, we need to get somebody else in place here.
- 27:55And Samuel Jassica, there isn't anybody. He's got to do it.
- 27:58And so they kind of do one line fix it. I guess you can say, I don't like it myself.
- 28:03I think Claire, I think Claire could have, should have taken over because she's probably.
- 28:09Yeah. I don't know. But we're not going to get that.
- 28:14I mean, come on, snakes on the phone. Yeah, we find out Ken isn't gay.
- 28:18That's right, his girlfriend appears at the end. Yes, that's right.
- 28:21Yeah. That's the big twist. That was the big twist.
- 28:26Yeah. That was all right. Yeah, I've been watching this film again and just
- 28:30talking about Corman, not recently with Alligator and Piranha.
- 28:33Maybe I'm still in that zone, so I can kind of appreciate what this film was trying to do.
- 28:40But the first act does fail it a bit, like I mentioned.
- 28:43But the second act turns it fucking around. And I'll tell you what,
- 28:46the action doesn't stop It's not boring,
- 28:49it's not dull The acting is quite up to par The visual effects of the snakes
- 28:53are decent But that boa scene wins it for me That boa scene terrifies the fuck
- 28:58out of me So it has to get a pass just for that I think,
- 29:01well going back to what we were saying at the start About cult classic films,
- 29:06Corman with Piranha and stuff,
- 29:09I'm pretty certain at the time He wasn't going out to make a cult classic Like,
- 29:14you know, obviously Corman didn't direct it. He produced these films.
- 29:18But here, I think they're trying a bit too hard. But there's stuff I like about
- 29:23it, and I'm sort of on the fence.
- 29:25It's, you know, for a B-movie, this type of B-movie, it just about shades it for me.
- 29:33But, you know, in terms of a past, but I definitely have issues overall.
- 29:38But, yeah, it just about shades it. Samuel L. Jackson makes a difference. There you go.
- 29:44So there you go, guys. We're going to end Plane Month on a high note. Get it? Okay. Yeah.
- 29:52Rather, I thought I was going to roll my eyes and go, fuck, but it finds itself. It's all right.
