- 0:04Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
- 0:08weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
- 0:11ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Friday,
- 0:16December 26, 2025. Let's get you caught up. The
- 0:20California Highway Patrol is investigating a
- 0:23fatal hit and run that killed a pedestrian Wednesday
- 0:25morning near Waterman and Florin Roads. Authorities
- 0:29say the victim was found in a roadside ditch
- 0:31after being struck by a vehicle. If you're walking
- 0:34near a roadway, stay alert. Make eye contact
- 0:36when possible and assume that drivers may not
- 0:39see you. Unfortunately, defensive walking matters.
- 0:44And don't assume that because you have the right
- 0:46-of -way, it's safe. As my grandmother would
- 0:48say, having the right -of -way won't make you
- 0:51less dead. Use caution because not every driver
- 0:54is paying attention. And while that investigation
- 0:57underscores how quickly a moment can turn tragic,
- 1:00another loss this holiday season is being felt
- 1:03deeply within the local law enforcement community.
- 1:07A Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy was killed
- 1:10early Christmas Eve in a solo vehicle crash while
- 1:14heading to work. Deputy James Caravallo, a 19
- 1:18-year veteran, was on his way to the Rio Cosimnes
- 1:21Correctional Center. The Sheriff's Office is
- 1:24asking the community to keep his family and colleagues
- 1:27in your thoughts. In today's weather, it'll bring
- 1:31us mostly cloudy skies with rain developing after
- 1:342 p .m. with a high near 55 and a breezy southwest
- 1:39wind gusting up to 28 miles per hour. Rain tapers
- 1:43off before 10 p .m. with lows around 46, lighter
- 1:47winds, and a few lingering showers possible.
- 1:51In City Watch, today marks the first day of Kwanzaa,
- 1:54beginning with Umoja, the principle of unity
- 1:59that celebrates family, community and coming
- 2:01together. If you'd like to join in, I have included
- 2:05links in today's show notes to Kwanzaa events
- 2:07happening across the city. And while Kwanzaa
- 2:11celebrates honor, tradition and togetherness,
- 2:14the city's nightlife is keeping the holiday energy
- 2:17going with a very different way. Late tonight,
- 2:21the Electric Workshop takes over a North Pole
- 2:25themed rave at Tiger Restaurant and Lounge on
- 2:28K Street. It's an adult only dress the theme
- 2:32dance party running from 9 p .m. until the early
- 2:35morning hours. And if you're not ready to slow
- 2:38it down just yet, Tiger keeps the energy rolling
- 2:41into Saturday night with Snow Day. This is an
- 2:45all white winter party. Takes over Tiger. Lounge
- 2:50again, that'll be at K Street, 9 p .m. Blending
- 2:54R &B, hip hop and top 100 hits with ice inspired
- 2:59visuals and high fashion vibes. Guests are encouraged
- 3:04to wear all white and the first 500 RSVPs can
- 3:08get in free. Details in the show notes. And for
- 3:12something calmer and restorative this weekend.
- 3:16ArtRx returns Saturday morning at the Crocker
- 3:19Art Museum. The free program invites people living
- 3:23with chronic pain along with family, friends,
- 3:25and caregivers to enjoy a guided conversation
- 3:28around the art gallery from 11 to 1215 and no
- 3:35art experience is required. The Crocker Creative
- 3:39Aging Initiative is making this possible with
- 3:42the support from Eschaton. That's all for today's
- 3:47Sacramento Brief. You'll find the links for today's
- 3:50events in the show notes. I'm Carol. Thank you
