- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to Jags AM and happy Victory Monday to all
- 0:18Speaker 1: of you. I'm Kainani Stephens. Brian Sexton and John Ogier
- 0:21Speaker 1: are with me today as we get ready to recap
- 0:23Speaker 1: another beautiful Jaguars win and a dominant one at that.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Let's get into our big things brought to you by GEHA,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Government Employees Health Association. And big thing number one was
- 0:33Speaker 1: a response. It was a word we heard a ton
- 0:35Speaker 1: this week after a lackluster week of practice and a
- 0:37Speaker 1: poor performance in Denver. This team wanted to get back
- 0:40Speaker 1: to their roots and they had a bounce back win.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it was a good response. You know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: I think it was the response we were looking for.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It was a response we talked about all week, you know,
- 0:50Speaker 2: winning the game in all three phases. And, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 2: it was fun to watch. We talked about, you know,
- 0:56Speaker 2: you get what you emphasize so much with this team.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And we emphasize the special teams with the coverage and
- 1:01Speaker 2: obviously with the return and a pop in one. We
- 1:04Speaker 2: emphasize getting our hands on some more balls in the secondary.
- 1:07Speaker 2: And obviously we were able to do that, getting after
- 1:10Speaker 2: the quarterback and affecting them in different ways. I think
- 1:12Speaker 2: we were able to do that. and then running the
- 1:14Speaker 2: football more effectively and more efficiently, which kind of showed
- 1:18Speaker 2: up today as well.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Brian, Liam Cohen wanted a response from his team, and
- 1:23Speaker 1: he got that and more.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Kai, say it with me.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Controlled burn.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Oh, yes.
- 1:28Speaker 4: He executed a controlled burn last week. He got his
- 1:31Speaker 4: team back to the basics, practicing the way that he
- 1:34Speaker 4: wanted them to practice. Now, you might recall that the
- 1:36Speaker 4: last controlled burn was November of last year, and they
- 1:40Speaker 4: came out and won 35-6 and had the opposing quarterback
- 1:43Speaker 4: out of the game in the fourth quarter. Remarkably similar, right?
- 1:47Speaker 4: Liam Cohen is very good at getting his team back.
- 1:49Speaker 4: back on track where he wants them to be. And
- 1:52Speaker 4: they did it all on the practice field last week.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I was out there, I watched, I saw a team
- 1:55Speaker 4: that I thought practiced well, and then Liam confirmed it
- 1:58Speaker 4: for us yesterday. John, this is a guy that when
- 2:01Speaker 4: he has his team playing the way he wants to, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
- 2:06Speaker 4: it's very difficult to beat on Sunday.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know how many houses we have to
- 2:09Speaker 5: burn down to get to the point.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Farms. Farms burn down.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Tree farms, John, tree farms.
- 2:15Speaker 3: But look, they responded to Liam....
- 2:19Speaker 5: I thought it was a day where, as Jaguars observers
- 2:24Speaker 5: and fans get used to this team being one of
- 2:28Speaker 5: the better teams, is going to have to realize that
- 2:31Speaker 5: the early part of the season can be figuring out.
- 2:34Speaker 5: And I'm not saying they weren't motivated. I'm not saying
- 2:37Speaker 5: there wasn't a burning farm somewhere. But sometimes you're trying
- 2:43Speaker 5: to figure out who you are early in the season
- 2:46Speaker 5: and You're playing different teams that are doing that. I
- 2:48Speaker 5: thought Denver was a little bit of that last week,
- 2:50Speaker 5: and I thought on Sunday a motivated team played to
- 2:54Speaker 5: its identity.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I thought that was pretty cool.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It was pretty cool. Let's go to our second big thing,
- 2:57Speaker 1: which is playmakers. We talked about that Broncos game. They
- 3:00Speaker 1: didn't get the catch, the kick, the turnover that they
- 3:03Speaker 1: needed in crucial moments.
- 3:05Speaker 6: Flipped to week three.
- 3:06Speaker 1: They were able to capitalize on all of their opponents' mistakes,
- 3:08Speaker 1: including turning the ball over and takeaways, including Travis Hunter's
- 3:12Speaker 1: first career interception.
- 3:15Speaker 7: For me, I know he tried me a couple times,
- 3:17Speaker 7: so I was just in there saying, I'm getting too
- 3:19Speaker 7: close to the ball. I got to get me one. So,
- 3:21Speaker 7: you know, we just continue to just do what the
- 3:23Speaker 7: coaches schemed up for us, and we just played our
- 3:25Speaker 7: best ball today.
- 3:27Speaker 1: John, all we talked about last week was Travis Hunter
- 3:29Speaker 1: not getting enough snaps. He got enough snaps on defense
- 3:31Speaker 1: this week, and he got his first turnover.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's such a moment's league.
- 3:36Speaker 5: I mean, the Patriots, a couple times in the first half,
- 3:39Speaker 5: had chances to get back into it. The Drake May fumble,
- 3:43Speaker 5: the They gave the Jaguars a chance for their first drive.
- 3:46Speaker 5: This interception, I think you said it in the intro, Kai,
- 3:51Speaker 5: this was a game on Sunday where the Jaguars made
- 3:54Speaker 5: those plays at big moments.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Patriots missed a couple.
- 3:57Speaker 5: They had a touchdown, I think on this drive, they
- 3:59Speaker 5: had a chance for a touchdown on this drive and
- 4:02Speaker 5: missed it. What great teams do, Brian, I think the
- 4:04Speaker 5: Jaguars are ascending to a great team. When those moments
- 4:07Speaker 5: present themselves, You make the play, shut the door, and
- 4:11Speaker 5: make the opponent pay for the mistake they just made.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Guy, Travis Hunter was one storyline last week. Another was
- 4:18Speaker 4: Jacoby Myers and Brenton Strange, who had eight combined targets
- 4:23Speaker 4: coming into week three. And yesterday, I think they finished
- 4:26Speaker 4: with 13 targets. Jacoby obviously had seven catches and the touchdown.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Talk about playmakers. The Jaguars had nine receivers missing. to
- 4:35Speaker 4: whom the ball was thrown. Seven of them caught passes,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and it was impressive to see a team responding to
- 4:40Speaker 4: the stimulus, which was, you guys weren't good enough, and
- 4:43Speaker 4: they were yesterday in making plays. And it's good to see, John,
- 4:47Speaker 4: because you're about to go to Cincinnati, where you're going
- 4:49Speaker 4: to have to make plays against the Bengals. You're going
- 4:52Speaker 4: to have to do it against the Eagles and the Texans.
- 4:54Speaker 4: The next three games are more of the same, and
- 4:58Speaker 4: Liam Cohen needs to have his team, and I think
- 5:01Speaker 4: he will have his team ready to go.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Yeah, and Kai, you showed Travis right before that. I
- 5:04Speaker 5: think he's an example of what I was talking about, right?
- 5:08Speaker 5: Jaguars early in this season trying to figure out exactly
- 5:11Speaker 5: how much they're going to play guys, what roles. Travis
- 5:15Speaker 5: clearly more defensive snaps on Sunday and a bigger role overall.
- 5:19Speaker 5: So it's about sort of whacking your way through the
- 5:23Speaker 5: thicket of the early season and figuring out who you are.
- 5:25Speaker 3: They're figuring out who Travis Hunter is.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Our final big thing today going to be spreading the
- 5:29Speaker 1: wealth because as mentioned, three different wide receivers had a touchdown,
- 5:33Speaker 1: two of their running backs had a touchdown, and everybody's
- 5:36Speaker 1: happy when they get a win.
- 5:38Speaker 8: It makes it tough on defensive coordinators. I mean, you
- 5:40Speaker 8: don't know who's about to get the ball, and whoever
- 5:42Speaker 8: gets the ball, they're going to make the play. So
- 5:44Speaker 8: it's been cool to see, and run game's been good,
- 5:47Speaker 8: pass game's been good. We just want to keep that rolling.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Brian, they spread the ball around, but those receivers make catches,
- 5:53Speaker 1: difficult catches, when they do get the ball sent their way.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And Liam Cohen talking after you guys saying he likes
- 5:59Speaker 1: calling games where he can spread the ball around and
- 6:01Speaker 1: makes it easier for him.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Well, they have lots of options, right? I mean, they've
- 6:04Speaker 4: got two running backs who both scored touchdowns yesterday. They
- 6:07Speaker 4: have got a bevy of receivers. We saw Brenton Strange
- 6:10Speaker 4: get involved. They threw a ball in the direction of
- 6:12Speaker 4: Nate Borkager. Tanner Koziel was active yesterday, though he didn't
- 6:16Speaker 4: get a target. They have got guys, and they have
- 6:20Speaker 4: the ability to create game plans week to week with
- 6:23Speaker 4: all of the different weapons that they've got. You're going
- 6:25Speaker 4: to see a whole lot more of this spreading the
- 6:28Speaker 4: wealth around because, as we talked about last week, John,
- 6:30Speaker 4: that's where this quarterback is really good.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going to say something that will shock you.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I completely agree with Brian. Wow.
- 6:37Speaker 4: That's on him, not me.
- 6:38Speaker 3: They do have a bevy.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Victory Monday miracle. I love it.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Go on.
- 6:41Speaker 5: They've got a bevy of receivers. But they've got Parker Washington.
- 6:49Speaker 5: All the other plays yesterday were really good plays. Parker's
- 6:52Speaker 5: catch in the end zone was a play that changed
- 6:56Speaker 5: the course of the game, meaning he doesn't make that
- 7:00Speaker 5: unbelievable catch, and now you're kicking to be 17-3.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Maybe the Patriots aren't throwing.
- 7:06Speaker 5: On that next down into a Jarrion Jones interception and
- 7:11Speaker 5: allows you to blow out the game. Parker Washington, each
- 7:18Speaker 5: week you run out of things to say about him.
- 7:22Speaker 5: He's big time.
- 7:23Speaker 6: Parker, Parker, Washington, Washington. We love watching him.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And after this, of course, we're going to go over
- 7:27Speaker 1: tons of highlights for you on a Victory Monday edition
- 7:29Speaker 1: of Jags AM.
- 7:37Speaker 4: It's really a cultural thing around. Yeah, you might lose
- 7:40Speaker 4: some games here and there, but we always want to
- 7:42Speaker 4: bounce back.
- 7:42Speaker 3: We always want to play physical. We always want to
- 7:44Speaker 3: DOMINATE OUR OPPONENT.
- 7:46Speaker 4: AFTER A LOSS LIKE THAT, ESPECIALLY, IT WAS THE MAIN
- 7:49Speaker 4: EMPHASIS THIS WEEK.
- 7:51Speaker 1: WELCOME BACK INTO A VICTORY MONDAY EDITION OF JAG ZAM
- 7:53Speaker 1: BROUGHT TO YOU BY LOWE'S AND DEVON HAMILTON. DESERVES A
- 7:56Speaker 1: LOT OF CREDIT, AND NOSE TACKLES DON'T NORMALLY GET IT.
- 7:58Speaker 1: SO THAT'S WHY WE'RE STARTING OUT WITH HIM THIS MORNING.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Maybe this one fell into his lap a little bit,
- 8:02Speaker 1: but that Drake may fumble when he rolled over onto it.
- 8:05Speaker 1: It's a good start to the day.
- 8:06Speaker 3: He pounced.
- 8:07Speaker 4: It was a perfect play. Look, he's right there, and
- 8:11Speaker 4: he saw it. And someone else might have thought, well,
- 8:13Speaker 4: the ball just hit the ground, but not Devon. And
- 8:15Speaker 4: then his pass rush later in the game that set up,
- 8:17Speaker 4: what was it, second and 16 from the goal line?
- 8:20Speaker 4: Devon Hamilton's playing at a high level. And John, he's
- 8:23Speaker 4: in the last year of his deal. He is underpaid
- 8:27Speaker 4: at $ 10 million a year. The Jags are going to
- 8:29Speaker 4: have to figure out a way to pay him.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it's funny.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Nose tackles and offensive linemen, it's sort of two sides
- 8:38Speaker 5: of the same coin. We've noticed Devon in the last
- 8:41Speaker 5: year and a half for knocking down a pass against
- 8:44Speaker 5: the Raiders and falling on this one. And I think
- 8:48Speaker 5: he would tell you neither of those plays are really
- 8:51Speaker 5: why he's getting paid. So it's fun to notice him,
- 8:56Speaker 5: but he's otherworldly good at what he's supposed to be doing.
- 9:01Speaker 5: And you guys know him. Sometimes Devon's not a guy
- 9:04Speaker 5: who gets interviewed a whole lot. And I'm not sure fans,
- 9:08Speaker 5: when Josh Hines-Allen last training camp famously said that they
- 9:12Speaker 5: thought he was the best nose tackle in the league,
- 9:14Speaker 5: everybody kind of rolled their eyes.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Well, he's right. So what a good guy.
- 9:20Speaker 5: I guess what I'm getting at is he's been here six,
- 9:24Speaker 5: seven years. He's one of the guys that absolutely fits
- 9:27Speaker 5: what this franchise is about.
- 9:29Speaker 3: They love him.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Good for a good guy getting this sort of recognition
- 9:35Speaker 5: and really accelerating in his career.
- 9:37Speaker 4: He told me in the locker room last Thursday that
- 9:40Speaker 4: there was a moment in 2023 where he wasn't sure
- 9:42Speaker 4: if he'd play football again. You remember that was when
- 9:44Speaker 4: he had the spinal cord infection and it was touch
- 9:47Speaker 4: and go. He got back on the field in 24. Listen,
- 9:50Speaker 4: your defense isn't the same without him. You're not even
- 9:52Speaker 4: close to being the same without him.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Their calling card is run defense.
- 9:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, he might be the best player on
- 9:58Speaker 5: the team right now.
- 9:59Speaker 6: And I think that's why.
- 10:00Speaker 1: We want to give him a ton of credit because
- 10:01Speaker 1: it's one of those positions where you don't hear their
- 10:03Speaker 1: name a ton, so you don't think about what that is,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but he really is the star.
- 10:07Speaker 3: He was having a Pro Bowl season last year.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Nobody knew it until he stuck his hand up against
- 10:11Speaker 5: the Raiders.
- 10:12Speaker 3: And everybody went, oh, yeah, he's really good, too.
- 10:13Speaker 4: He took Quinn Miners, who might be the best right
- 10:16Speaker 4: guard in football for the Denver Broncos, and moved him
- 10:19Speaker 4: around last week. And most people won't look at that
- 10:21Speaker 4: matchup and see any significance in it because it's a
- 10:24Speaker 4: nose tackle and a right guard. But people who know
- 10:27Speaker 4: saw it and know how good Devon is.
- 10:30Speaker 1: All right, we all love Devon. We are going to
- 10:31Speaker 1: move on, though, unfortunately, fortunately, into some of the fun
- 10:34Speaker 1: plays of the day. Josh Cameron getting his second career touchdown.
- 10:38Speaker 1: The All-22 view of this is great because when Trevor
- 10:41Speaker 1: releases the ball on some of these touchdowns, the wide receiver's.
- 10:44Speaker 6: Nowhere in the vicinity.
- 10:45Speaker 1: He's just kind of throwing it, and then they pop
- 10:47Speaker 1: up and catch it. I'm so impressed with what Josh
- 10:52Speaker 1: Cameron's been able to do in a short amount of
- 10:54Speaker 1: time and really make a name for himself in this offense.
- 10:58Speaker 1: When we talk about how loaded the wide receiver room is,
- 11:01Speaker 1: Josh Cameron's still come out and.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Looked like this. I was told yesterday that this was
- 11:05Speaker 4: a great read by Cameron on what the defense was doing,
- 11:07Speaker 4: and he just slid in underneath behind the linebacker in
- 11:11Speaker 4: front of the safety for a young guy. That was
- 11:13Speaker 4: a really heads-up play, and he was rewarded. Three targets,
- 11:16Speaker 4: three catches, two touchdowns so far for him.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Yeah, you assume that six-round wide receivers are going to
- 11:25Speaker 5: be a story in their second year.
- 11:27Speaker 3: And this kid is in his third game.
- 11:32Speaker 5: I mean, this is accelerated production at a position where
- 11:36Speaker 5: it's hard to have.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Accelerated production sometimes. Not only that, comes down the very
- 11:41Speaker 3: next play, makes special team sackles.
- 11:42Speaker 5: And then has a kickoff return in the second half
- 11:46Speaker 5: that gets you to midfield, those kind of plays change
- 11:50Speaker 5: the game because it puts more pressure on the defense.
- 11:53Speaker 5: As Liam said in the presser, the more you can do,
- 11:57Speaker 5: this guy matters on this offense, and that's rare for
- 12:00Speaker 5: a rookie receiver.
- 12:00Speaker 4: To carry on the theme, what Liam talked about, how
- 12:03Speaker 4: you practice is how you play, we saw those kinds
- 12:05Speaker 4: of catches from him in training camp. From the moment
- 12:08Speaker 4: he got here, he was making those kinds of plays.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Let's take a look at the Jacoby Myers touchdown because
- 12:13Speaker 1: he played a huge role yesterday when we talked about
- 12:15Speaker 1: spreading the ball around. He didn't get a ton last week,
- 12:18Speaker 1: had only that one big catch, but he had eight targets,
- 12:20Speaker 1: seven receptions. We'll get to some of the other big,
- 12:23Speaker 1: you know, first down plays he was able to contribute
- 12:25Speaker 1: to later in the game, but nice to see him
- 12:27Speaker 1: get involved against his old team and get a score
- 12:29Speaker 1: out of it as well.
- 12:30Speaker 5: Yeah, this is really, Kai, when you were talking about
- 12:34Speaker 5: seeing Trevor throw to where you have to anticipate the break, uh,
- 12:39Speaker 5: It was true on camera. It was really true on
- 12:41Speaker 5: this one. He also had to look off to one
- 12:44Speaker 5: side of the field to have his eyes work in
- 12:46Speaker 5: that way. I think it's easy to forget when an
- 12:52Speaker 5: offense is playing this way, which overall it has for
- 12:55Speaker 5: the last 11 games.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Scoring in the red zone is hard. It's really hard.
- 13:01Speaker 5: And I thought during training camp, it was just one
- 13:03Speaker 5: of those little inkling moments where When they were effective
- 13:07Speaker 5: in the red zone in the three joint practices, I
- 13:10Speaker 5: was like, oh, this, this, whatever else was going on,
- 13:14Speaker 5: if you're doing that in this league, you're usually okay
- 13:18Speaker 5: and have a chance to be really good.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Five for five in the red zone yesterday, Brian.
- 13:21Speaker 4: It's off the charts.
- 13:22Speaker 3: With tough.
- 13:24Speaker 6: Yep.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Tough conversions on sometimes.
- 13:26Speaker 2: You bet.
- 13:26Speaker 4: It's off the chart. And you saw Trevor make the
- 13:30Speaker 4: throw into triple coverage. There were three defenders around him.
- 13:33Speaker 4: But what was most impressive was the time. Remember last
- 13:35Speaker 4: week we talked about how the offensive line couldn't protect
- 13:38Speaker 4: him against Denver. And I get it. These guys aren't
- 13:40Speaker 4: the pass rushers that Denver has.
- 13:42Speaker 5: But there is a persistent, grindy pass rush. And it's
- 13:45Speaker 5: hard to keep the same with the quarterback.
- 13:46Speaker 4: He had time all day to throw the football. A
- 13:49Speaker 4: nice response for the offensive line for sure.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Trevor also dealt with that pressure well, which was Not
- 13:54Speaker 1: something you could say for Drake May yesterday. He looked
- 13:56Speaker 1: pretty rattled, and part of this is on him, but
- 13:58Speaker 1: also nice to see Travis Hunter got his first interception
- 14:00Speaker 1: at a big moment in the end zone, keeping the
- 14:03Speaker 1: Patriots from scoring a touchdown here.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Can I tell you who got, Travis, congratulations, first career interceptions,
- 14:09Speaker 4: making a play the week that everyone's pointing their finger
- 14:12Speaker 4: at you. Foye Oluokun gets a part in this. He
- 14:15Speaker 4: comes so hard behind Josh Heinz-Allen on this play. As
- 14:19Speaker 4: you watch this, he's the streaking teal that you see.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Trent May might have had a little bit more time
- 14:25Speaker 4: to set his feet and see that, might have just
- 14:27Speaker 4: thrown it away. Foye didn't give him the chance. He
- 14:29Speaker 4: came so hard and fast.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Yeah, it's also people sometimes wonder, okay, why did they
- 14:35Speaker 5: draft Travis Hunter? This is a play where May is rolling,
- 14:40Speaker 5: and you're taught as a quarterback, if you see the
- 14:42Speaker 5: back of the defender, go ahead and throw the ball
- 14:44Speaker 5: because your receiver knows where it is, and even if
- 14:47Speaker 5: he looks.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Covered, well, Travis had the wherewithal.
- 14:50Speaker 5: And the athleticism to make the, you know, A lot
- 14:54Speaker 5: of normal human beings in that situation see the ball,
- 14:59Speaker 5: but they can't contort their body, get around, make that play.
- 15:03Speaker 3: The playmaker element, go get the ball guy, showed up
- 15:06Speaker 3: on that play.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Let's take a look at the series that led into
- 15:10Speaker 1: Parker Washington's touchdown because what I think was crucial about
- 15:13Speaker 1: this was when Trevor was under pressure here, he's making
- 15:16Speaker 1: these throws, and Jacoby Myers was coming down with the catches.
- 15:19Speaker 6: We talk about being reliable. Trevor's standing in there.
- 15:22Speaker 1: He's going to take a hit on this, but he
- 15:23Speaker 1: knows that Jacoby's going to be in the right spot
- 15:26Speaker 1: and come down with it, get a first down, and
- 15:28Speaker 1: keep this drive alive.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:31Speaker 5: I think this is the series I rewatched this morning.
- 15:34Speaker 3: If I'm confusing them, I apologize.
- 15:36Speaker 5: I think this was a series earlier where on third down,
- 15:38Speaker 5: Trevor's under pressure and finds Tootin off.
- 15:40Speaker 3: To the left.
- 15:45Speaker 5: A bunch of plays like this. This was an eight-minute drive,
- 15:48Speaker 5: I think.
- 15:48Speaker 4: It was, 842.
- 15:49Speaker 3: 15 plays. You get the ball up 11 early in
- 15:53Speaker 3: the third quarter. When you get points late, all.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Of a sudden New England's looking up going, oh, it's
- 16:00Speaker 5: 18 and we have a quarter left.
- 16:01Speaker 3: We don't have a half anymore.
- 16:03Speaker 5: So it was a big-time drive that, again, as I
- 16:06Speaker 5: said last week, I was worried about this game because
- 16:09Speaker 5: the Patriots usually do things like the Jaguars did on
- 16:13Speaker 5: this drive.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Get the ball with a little bit.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Of a lead and then extend it, and all of
- 16:17Speaker 5: a sudden the game is squeezed. The Jaguars squeezed the.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Game on the Patriots' issue.
- 16:21Speaker 4: It was the backbreaker because the missed field goal started
- 16:24Speaker 4: this drive, and that's as good as a turnover. So
- 16:26Speaker 4: that was a 10-point swing. If they cut it, right?
- 16:30Speaker 4: to 14-6. All of a sudden, they've got some momentum.
- 16:35Speaker 4: You come down and just bang, bang, bang, and it
- 16:37Speaker 4: doesn't even matter that you get backed up off the
- 16:39Speaker 4: goal line when you had it first in goal. Trevor
- 16:42Speaker 4: throws the ball and converts that third down and long.
- 16:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I always use, in my mind, when I know
- 16:49Speaker 5: the game, I'm ready to write the game. I wasn't
- 16:51Speaker 5: ready to write the game until this touchdown coming up because,
- 16:54Speaker 5: as you said, it felt 14-3.
- 16:56Speaker 3: You've seen touchdown, two-point, you're back in it, guys.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And then I want to give some credit because I
- 17:03Speaker 1: feel like the defense did a lot differently this week
- 17:06Speaker 1: than maybe we saw against the Broncos.
- 17:07Speaker 6: They felt like they adjusted. They didn't play a perfect
- 17:09Speaker 6: game by any.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Means, but they're best when they can have their eyes
- 17:13Speaker 1: towards the ball and make a play on the ball.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Jarrion Jones also getting an interception. Got to get on
- 17:17Speaker 1: Trayvon a little bit in there. He didn't quite block
- 17:20Speaker 1: out for him. He kind of got in his way.
- 17:21Speaker 6: He might have been able to make the corner, but.
- 17:23Speaker 1: That led to a Chris Rodriguez touchdown, so all was well.
- 17:26Speaker 1: But it feels like they're getting back to their roots
- 17:29Speaker 1: and playing the ball a bit more.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Well, Jarrion's made some big interceptions for this team at
- 17:33Speaker 4: crucial moments. Like in Denver last December, he came up
- 17:37Speaker 4: with a big one. In this case, he had one
- 17:39Speaker 4: in the first half, and he had the penalty.
- 17:41Speaker 6: Right?
- 17:42Speaker 4: And it just, this one felt real because Jarrion is
- 17:45Speaker 4: a playmaker. He's one of those guys that you, you
- 17:47Speaker 4: kind of, you talk about Travis Hunter and you talk
- 17:49Speaker 4: about Jordan. I mean, you talk about all these other
- 17:52Speaker 4: guys and yet there's Jarrion. It seems every game he's
- 17:55Speaker 4: got something that you go, wow, nice play.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Why are they rotating?
- 17:59Speaker 4: Why are they rotating?
- 18:00Speaker 3: Well, you're rotating because you have good players back, you know.
- 18:03Speaker 5: So I think that was evidence, you know, if they
- 18:06Speaker 5: went with their, quote, starters back there, you're going with, Travis, Monteric,
- 18:12Speaker 5: and probably Jordan.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Where's Jarrion?
- 18:14Speaker 5: Well, you need Jarrion on the field at some point.
- 18:18Speaker 5: To me, this was a we've got the lead interception,
- 18:22Speaker 5: meaning 18. Now you know the Patriots with the struggling
- 18:25Speaker 5: quarterback have to throw.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I thought the theme of the game was.
- 18:30Speaker 5: The Jaguars forced Patriots into mistakes that they usually don't make.
- 18:33Speaker 5: and then we're a good enough team to turn those
- 18:36Speaker 5: mistakes into a route. And that's what good teams do
- 18:39Speaker 5: when they're given opportunities like they were yesterday.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And apparently Trevor was already in a run-the-clock mode with
- 18:45Speaker 1: eight minutes left in.
- 18:46Speaker 6: The game when he decided to kneel.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And my first thought was, yes, he's trying to run
- 18:50Speaker 1: the clock probably a little bit early, but I thought
- 18:52Speaker 1: he wanted to give the touchdown to Tootin.
- 18:54Speaker 6: And whether or not he's just saying that after the fact,
- 18:56Speaker 6: that was my first thought. He was like, oh, well,
- 18:58Speaker 6: Tootin doesn't have a score today. Maybe we'll spread the
- 18:59Speaker 6: wealth fully.
- 19:00Speaker 3: He got a lot of grief for this.
- 19:04Speaker 5: To me, it was a very well-intentioned mistake. Really, at
- 19:10Speaker 5: that stage of the game, you're better scoring because you
- 19:14Speaker 5: don't want to put your running back into high-risk, pounding
- 19:18Speaker 5: goal line, all that. But he was trying to do
- 19:20Speaker 5: the right thing. He just did it a little bit
- 19:22Speaker 5: too early. And out of all the sins a quarterback
- 19:26Speaker 5: can have.
- 19:28Speaker 3: This may be the most forgivable I've seen.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Morris Jones Drew famously did that in New York one
- 19:33Speaker 4: year with less than 30 seconds to play to set
- 19:35Speaker 4: up the field goal instead of take the touchdown and
- 19:37Speaker 4: give the Jets any fuel at all. But I looked
- 19:40Speaker 4: at the clock when he took the knee and I went,
- 19:42Speaker 4: what are you doing?
- 19:44Speaker 6: Right?
- 19:45Speaker 4: He took a lot of grief. Gamblers were grieving it
- 19:49Speaker 4: and fantasy footballers. players on both sides. But when you're
- 19:52Speaker 4: winning that big, you just do what you want, I guess.
- 19:54Speaker 5: My first thought was, well, look, I'm 60. Analytics has
- 19:58Speaker 5: all these new things. I thought, well, maybe they're thinking
- 20:01Speaker 5: of something I haven't thought of yet.
- 20:02Speaker 3: No. Score. At that point, just score.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Just a little bit of maneuvering.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Maybe they're playing chess and I'm playing checkers.
- 20:10Speaker 4: He had nine rushing touchdowns last year.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Just score.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I don't think we'll see it again anytime soon, at
- 20:14Speaker 1: least not that early in the fourth quarter.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Stay with us.
- 20:17Speaker 6: We've got hot takes for you after the break.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Week four's matchup against the Bengals is presented by Bud Light.
- 20:24Speaker 6: Bud Light, the official beer of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 20:28Speaker 9: Yeah, I was, you know, the whole drive was kind
- 20:30Speaker 9: of like, Tried to put together a good drive, but
- 20:32Speaker 9: it was a four-minute thought, so I got down there.
- 20:36Speaker 9: And so when I broke free and no one tackled me,
- 20:38Speaker 9: it was just... It's something we talk about all the time, potentially,
- 20:41Speaker 9: in those situations, like going down, keeping the clock running.
- 20:44Speaker 4: That was too much time.
- 20:45Speaker 9: So I look at the clock after, and I'm like,
- 20:47Speaker 9: there's still eight minutes left. So it was probably unnecessary there,
- 20:51Speaker 9: but just trying to eat as much clock as possible.
- 20:54Speaker 9: They used the timeout after that. Trying to give them
- 20:57Speaker 9: as few chances as possible to get back in the game.
- 21:00Speaker 6: But.
- 21:01Speaker 9: If you do the analytics, people will probably be all
- 21:04Speaker 9: over it online, I'm sure. It probably wasn't the best decision,
- 21:08Speaker 9: but we scored the next play. So whatever, give Basial
- 21:11Speaker 9: a touchdown.
- 21:12Speaker 4: That's cool.
- 21:12Speaker 9: Let him get in the end zone.
- 21:15Speaker 6: All is forgotten when you win.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I think people will still be talking about this one
- 21:18Speaker 1: a little bit, but Trevor Lawrence weighing in on what
- 21:21Speaker 1: his thought process was there, taking that knee late. But
- 21:24Speaker 1: I'm going to do my hot take first because it
- 21:25Speaker 1: kind of has to do with this. So my hot
- 21:27Speaker 1: take is that Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars need to
- 21:30Speaker 1: be a little bit more selfish.
- 21:32Speaker 6: Now, Trevor doesn't have that in him.
- 21:33Speaker 1: He's just a very kind, generous guy, likes to spread
- 21:35Speaker 1: the ball around, spread the wealth, let his running.
- 21:37Speaker 6: Back get a touchdown.
- 21:38Speaker 1: But This is a team that every week needs to
- 21:42Speaker 1: earn respect and that's not anything new for the Jacksonville
- 21:44Speaker 1: Jaguars franchise, but not everybody watches these games and sometimes
- 21:49Speaker 1: they just look at the box score. Trevor Lawrence in
- 21:51Speaker 1: games like this doesn't need to stat pad, but he
- 21:54Speaker 1: needs to continue to be as successful as we've seen
- 21:57Speaker 1: him and also have the statistics to back it up.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Because when people look at this and at the end
- 22:02Speaker 1: of the season when they're looking at the touchdown numbers,
- 22:04Speaker 1: there's going to be one.
- 22:04Speaker 6: Less for Trevor Lawrence. That's fine.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I'm sure he'll make up for it later in the season,
- 22:08Speaker 1: but This is a team that can blow out their opponents.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I think they could have scored way more against the Browns.
- 22:15Speaker 6: In week one.
- 22:16Speaker 1: That certainly could have been more of a blowout than
- 22:18Speaker 1: it was. And they need to show their dominance more
- 22:21Speaker 1: than they have. They did in this game against the
- 22:24Speaker 1: defending AFC champion New England Patriots.
- 22:27Speaker 6: But they need to do this every single week when
- 22:28Speaker 6: they have the ability. Brian, I know.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Fred Taylor was talking to you guys post-game saying, hey,
- 22:33Speaker 1: I wish I had some of those goal line touchdowns.
- 22:35Speaker 1: later looking back and you're never going to want to
- 22:37Speaker 1: say i should have taken that no.
- 22:39Speaker 4: As we went to the last break i mentioned trevor
- 22:40Speaker 4: had nine russian touchdowns last year he had 38 touchdowns
- 22:44Speaker 4: total which was the third highest in the league behind
- 22:47Speaker 4: matt stafford the mvp and josh allen who looks like
- 22:50Speaker 4: the mvp this year uh he's a guy who will
- 22:52Speaker 4: find his way to the end zone and you just
- 22:54Speaker 4: like to see that um uh sense of what is it.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Um Brush fires?
- 23:02Speaker 4: No, I'm off the fire thing, John.
- 23:04Speaker 3: We're not burning anymore.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Situational management, right? Situation. The coach wants situational mastery. It's
- 23:11Speaker 4: not a huge problem, but that wasn't situational mastery. Go ahead,
- 23:15Speaker 4: score the touchdown. You're not saving us anything if you
- 23:17Speaker 4: take the knee.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it was, again, I already kind of weighed in
- 23:21Speaker 5: on it. A pretty forgivable sin, I think, trying to
- 23:25Speaker 5: do the right thing. I think he'll get his touchdown,
- 23:28Speaker 5: and I hope that that one doesn't.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Cost him the MVP.
- 23:31Speaker 1: And I will say, I think Liam Cohen's already on
- 23:33Speaker 1: board with me in terms of, let's get as many
- 23:35Speaker 1: scores as we can every single game.
- 23:36Speaker 4: I think everybody's on board with you.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 23:38Speaker 6: Brian, what's your hot take for us?
- 23:39Speaker 4: I was BTJ last Monday, and I am again today,
- 23:43Speaker 4: despite the fact that he had just one catch for
- 23:44Speaker 4: eight yards. BTJ will have his day. John, listen, it
- 23:49Speaker 4: looked like, to my count, he split reps with Josh Cameron.
- 23:53Speaker 4: And everyone's on Josh Cameron, and so am I right now.
- 23:55Speaker 4: I mean, three catches, or three targets, three catches, two
- 23:58Speaker 4: touchdowns in three games. Great. But for as good as
- 24:01Speaker 4: Josh Cameron is, he doesn't have what BTJ can do,
- 24:05Speaker 4: and that is the deep threat. And the Jaguars didn't
- 24:07Speaker 4: need the deep threat yesterday, but they also didn't have
- 24:09Speaker 4: the deep threat. And while people might just look and say, well, BTJ,
- 24:14Speaker 4: you're going to push him off to the side, look
- 24:15Speaker 4: at all the other weapons, he still has the potential
- 24:18Speaker 4: to be the shiniest of all those stars out there
- 24:20Speaker 4: because of his down-the-field capabilities. Remember last year, their two
- 24:24Speaker 4: signature wins were Denver and here against Kansas City, and
- 24:27Speaker 4: you don't beat the Chiefs on Monday night without his
- 24:29Speaker 4: catch down the sideline. I think despite the fact that
- 24:32Speaker 4: he was quiet yesterday, that he split reps, I think
- 24:35Speaker 4: he His response is forthcoming, whether it's next week or
- 24:38Speaker 4: the week after or sometime in November. But I don't
- 24:41Speaker 4: think that people should go to sleep on number seven
- 24:44Speaker 4: because I think he'll have his day.
- 24:47Speaker 5: Liam Cohen's task over the rest of this season, and
- 24:50Speaker 5: it's a task that he will embrace, enjoy, and thrive in,
- 24:55Speaker 5: will be figuring out what defenses are now taking away
- 25:00Speaker 5: from this versatile offense. And at some point, defensive coordinators
- 25:05Speaker 5: are going to sit in a room and say, Parker, Jacoby, Brent,
- 25:08Speaker 5: we've got to stop that, and they're going to forget
- 25:10Speaker 5: that seven's on the field. And then they're going to
- 25:14Speaker 5: pay for that, and then the next week they're going
- 25:16Speaker 5: to worry about seven, and it's going to be 85.
- 25:18Speaker 5: So it's going to be a little bit of a,
- 25:22Speaker 5: in the first quarter, I think Liam's going to say, okay, well,
- 25:24Speaker 5: they're taking this now.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Okay, now we go over here.
- 25:27Speaker 5: So to your point, I don't know if it's going
- 25:29Speaker 5: to be a 1,200-yard season for BTJ, but there's going
- 25:32Speaker 5: to be big.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Moments for every one of these guys.
- 25:34Speaker 6: John, what's your hot take?
- 25:36Speaker 3: I went with, and Brian will understand the reference, I was.
- 25:43Speaker 8: Wrong.
- 25:44Speaker 5: And I really thought it was going to be a
- 25:48Speaker 5: tough test for the Jags. I thought the Patriots were
- 25:50Speaker 5: going to rush well against Trevor. Sort of like the
- 25:54Speaker 5: first quarter sort of went until the Drake May fumble.
- 25:57Speaker 5: And I thought it was going to be tough to
- 25:58Speaker 5: make big plays against this defense. I underestimated a couple things.
- 26:04Speaker 5: I didn't know that Drake May was going to have
- 26:05Speaker 5: a really rough day. And what I think the.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Jaguars really deserve credit for, we've seen it around here
- 26:12Speaker 3: a lot. The quarterbacks struggle.
- 26:15Speaker 5: Can the other team put the foot on the throat
- 26:18Speaker 5: in that situation and pull away?
- 26:21Speaker 3: Really good teams do that. I thought the Jaguars, in
- 26:24Speaker 3: a way, played like I expected the Patriots to play.
- 26:28Speaker 3: They just kept.
- 26:29Speaker 5: doing what they were doing, and gradually got scoreboard confidence,
- 26:32Speaker 5: gradually got up 11, then all of a sudden you're up,
- 26:35Speaker 5: and boom, blew a team out. That overall, except for
- 26:38Speaker 5: the quarterback, didn't play that bad in New England, but
- 26:40Speaker 5: I thought it was also impressive, guys. The offensive and
- 26:43Speaker 5: defensive line, Vrabel was disturbed after the game when he
- 26:47Speaker 5: was talking.
- 26:47Speaker 3: About, you know, as any coach would be after a
- 26:50Speaker 3: 29-point loss.
- 26:52Speaker 5: The front of the Patriots, the Jaguars were able to
- 26:56Speaker 5: run and push defensively I didn't expect that, and that.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Was really impressive.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Kai, in the A block of the show, John said
- 27:04Speaker 4: I was right. And in the C block, John said
- 27:06Speaker 4: he was wrong. At that point, I'm just going to
- 27:10Speaker 4: sit back and let you take it.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a tough day for me.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Not for me.
- 27:14Speaker 6: A true victory Monday.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Good victory Monday. Have everybody else in the building.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Pretty good day for me.
- 27:18Speaker 3: So, yeah, I'm just going to be quiet.
- 27:20Speaker 1: A victory Monday for the Jaguars and for Brian. Stay
- 27:22Speaker 1: with us after the break. We'll tell you what's coming
- 27:24Speaker 1: up the rest of the week. Jags fans, on Tuesday,
- 27:27Speaker 1: September 29th from 6 to 7, head to Publix at
- 27:30Speaker 1: 13170 Atlantic Boulevard to meet some of the Jaguars players.
- 27:34Speaker 1: And Jax DeVille, members of the Roar, will be there
- 27:37Speaker 1: as well. Publix, where shopping is a pleasure.
- 27:41Speaker 10: Hey! Hey, guys.
- 27:53Speaker 11: That one feels real good.
- 27:55Speaker 3: That one feels good.
- 27:56Speaker 11: Hey, man, you talk about responding together as a team.
- 28:00Speaker 3: All week, there was no doubt, no.
- 28:02Speaker 11: Doubt that you guys were going to continue to do
- 28:05Speaker 11: it and do it and stay the course. And, man,
- 28:08Speaker 11: that's what happened. Talk about complimentary football at its finest.
- 28:12Speaker 11: Playing off each other, man. Give it up for you guys, man.
- 28:16Speaker 11: Really proud of you.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Really proud of you guys.
- 28:18Speaker 11: That is a legitimate response to who we know who
- 28:21Speaker 11: we are, guys. We know who we are. That's the reality.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Great job, fellas. Great job.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Enjoy it tonight. All right, Jacks on three.
- 28:28Speaker 9: One, two, three.
- 28:28Speaker 10: Jacks!
- 28:30Speaker 6: We got a running fist pump.
- 28:32Speaker 1: How's that feel? Had to feel good, get a win
- 28:35Speaker 1: against his hometown team. I know Coach Cohen was amped up,
- 28:38Speaker 1: but I think we all were just to, you know,
- 28:40Speaker 1: We've not not seen a response from the team. The
- 28:43Speaker 1: roster of the players really do, you know, when they
- 28:45Speaker 1: have a loss, respond well to what Liam Cohen puts
- 28:48Speaker 1: out in front of them in terms of a challenge
- 28:50Speaker 1: the following week.
- 28:51Speaker 6: So I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they did that.
- 28:53Speaker 5: No, but this is one of those games, it's easy
- 28:57Speaker 5: once your team, and I'll say this as like a
- 28:59Speaker 5: Jaguars observer, once they win it, it's easy to sort
- 29:03Speaker 5: of overlook how important it was because... okay, 35-6, and
- 29:08Speaker 5: it's easy for Jaguars fans to walk in and say, well,
- 29:10Speaker 5: Drake May didn't play very well, blah, blah, blah. You
- 29:13Speaker 5: lose this game, you're 1-2. And I don't care what
- 29:17Speaker 5: yesterday looked like. This team was in the Super Bowl
- 29:19Speaker 5: last year that you beat. And you handled it. And
- 29:23Speaker 5: you are now 2-0 at home. There's always a question
- 29:30Speaker 5: until you see it. And now, Brian, I think it's
- 29:34Speaker 5: more affirmation that this is a contending team that can
- 29:38Speaker 5: play with the best teams in the league.
- 29:40Speaker 3: It's going to be one of those teams. But boy,
- 29:42Speaker 3: you didn't want to be one and two.
- 29:43Speaker 8: No.
- 29:43Speaker 3: This was important.
- 29:44Speaker 6: No.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Listen, there are three teams that have gone from a
- 29:48Speaker 4: 13-loss season to a 13-or-more-win season. And the Patriots were
- 29:53Speaker 4: the other team to do it last year, right? And
- 29:56Speaker 4: they won 14 ballgames and went to the playoffs. So
- 29:59Speaker 4: for whatever analysis you provide of those Patriots, they were
- 30:04Speaker 4: as good as you were last year.
- 30:05Speaker 3: They were better.
- 30:05Speaker 4: They went into the playoffs, won in Denver, and then
- 30:07Speaker 4: went to the Super Bowl. And their head coach is
- 30:10Speaker 4: a guy who, I've got to be careful how I
- 30:13Speaker 4: say this because of the offseason, highly regarded as a
- 30:17Speaker 4: football coach, right? And the coach here, pencil whipped him.
- 30:22Speaker 4: I mean, we took them to the woodshed yesterday, and
- 30:26Speaker 4: that alone should make this a great freaking week for
- 30:30Speaker 4: Jaguars fans. But hold on, because now you've got to
- 30:33Speaker 4: go to it again in Cincinnati against Joe Burrow, T. Higgins,
- 30:36Speaker 4: Jamar Chase.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Fun.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Bring it on. And the expectation, and you've said this
- 30:41Speaker 4: since the season started, this is.
- 30:41Speaker 3: A good team.
- 30:43Speaker 4: The Jaguars fans used to go, oh, you know.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Well, we all know this is a good team.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Not now.
- 30:48Speaker 5: But at the same time, you had Denver, New England, Philadelphia, Cincinnati,
- 30:55Speaker 5: and the Texans, not in that order, but in this
- 30:58Speaker 5: five-game stretch.
- 30:59Speaker 3: It's easy to say, well, we'll get two or three
- 31:01Speaker 3: of those. But you've got to get one before you
- 31:03Speaker 3: get two or three.
- 31:04Speaker 5: And they did it. Now you go into that stretch.
- 31:08Speaker 5: One and two going to Cincinnati, come on now.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Hold on.
- 31:14Speaker 3: It's week to week.
- 31:14Speaker 5: It all starts over. But like Eddie Calvin Lelouch said,
- 31:20Speaker 5: Winning's better than losing. You didn't want to be 1-2
- 31:23Speaker 5: going up.
- 31:23Speaker 4: The new Lelouch reference. Listen, that sort of brings you
- 31:27Speaker 4: back up on a day that you didn't feel like
- 31:29Speaker 4: you won.
- 31:29Speaker 3: No, it's still. I was done.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Everyone, enjoy your beautiful Victory Monday here in Jacksonville. We'll
- 31:36Speaker 1: see you back later in the week as we look
- 31:38Speaker 1: forward to the Bengals' matchup in Week 4.
