- 0:20Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Pastor's Perspective. I'm your host, Brian Perez,
- 0:24Speaker 1: and it is Friday. We are here live in the
- 0:27Speaker 1: studio until 4 o'clock to answer the questions you have
- 0:30Speaker 1: about God's word, the Christian faith, just about anything that's
- 0:34Speaker 1: on your mind. Grab an open line while there's still time.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I love rhyming. Don't always rhyme, but sometimes I do.
- 0:41Speaker 1: 888-564-6173 is the number to call. Don't forget we're also
- 0:46Speaker 1: live streaming.
- 0:47Speaker 1: On Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, so you can watch us
- 0:50Speaker 1: as we do the show. But, uh, we'd love for
- 0:53Speaker 1: you to call in so that uh you can get
- 0:55Speaker 1: your question answered and if you're unable to call in
- 1:00Speaker 1: for whatever reason, maybe your phone's not working, I don't know,
- 1:03Speaker 1: maybe you're at work right now listening with headphones or
- 1:05Speaker 1: something and you can't call in. I get that. We
- 1:08Speaker 1: have an optional way for you to send in your
- 1:10Speaker 1: question and that's to go to um
- 1:12Speaker 1: Kwave.com. Look for the pastor's perspective page and fill out
- 1:16Speaker 1: that form and send in your question. We probably won't
- 1:19Speaker 1: see your question today though, so if you need an
- 1:21Speaker 1: answer today, if you need an answer before the weekend,
- 1:24Speaker 1: maybe you've got friends coming over this weekend and uh
- 1:27Speaker 1: the last time you got together, they asked you a
- 1:29Speaker 1: question that you weren't sure how to answer, call in 888-564-6173.
- 1:35Speaker 1: We've got Pastor Brian Broderson here today answering your questions.
- 1:38Speaker 1: What's going on, Brian?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Well, Brian, um,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I had Cheryl right next to me and then she
- 1:50Speaker 1: just um
- 1:51Speaker 1: It slipped away. I, I tried to hold on to her,
- 1:55Speaker 1: but she said, nope, I'm going. Ah, the truth is
- 1:59Speaker 1: she has wanted a haircut for a really long time,
- 2:03Speaker 1: and our daughter, you know, is her hairstylist, so she
- 2:07Speaker 1: has not had a haircut for about 6 months because
- 2:10Speaker 1: my daughter's been, you know, here on the East Coast. So,
- 2:13Speaker 1: so anyway, today was the day, it was the moment.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Elsie said, Mom, I'll cut your hair right now, and
- 2:19Speaker 1: Cheryl said, Brian.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Adios, you're on your own, you can handle it, you're
- 2:23Speaker 1: a big boy, and, um, yeah, so here I am. Sorry. Well,
- 2:29Speaker 1: that's fine, but you know, Kelsey could have cut Cheryl's
- 2:32Speaker 1: hair there on camera. That would have been cool to
- 2:35Speaker 1: see a live haircut.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it would have been awesome. We could have done that, yeah, yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know, Cheryl, she's a little shy though. She doesn't
- 2:44Speaker 1: like to really get in front of the camera too much, so.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Well, that's OK. 888-564-6173 is the number to call. Let's
- 2:53Speaker 1: answer at least one question that was submitted online, this
- 2:56Speaker 1: one through the, I have to first um respond to
- 3:01Speaker 1: the chatter that I heard before we came on the air.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Somebody said they thought I was in South Connecticut, so, uh,
- 3:07Speaker 1: there is not a South Connecticut, I guess there's a
- 3:09Speaker 1: southern part of Connecticut, um.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I was combining the two because I couldn't remember if
- 3:15Speaker 1: you were in South Carolina or Connecticut, so I just
- 3:18Speaker 1: said South Connecticut. I think it was somebody else who said. OK, yes,
- 3:22Speaker 1: it was somebody else. It was, it wasn't me, it
- 3:24Speaker 1: wasn't me. I would not think of saying anything like that.
- 3:27Speaker 1: It wasn't. I would, I, you know, I would, you
- 3:29Speaker 1: are such a well informed person. I would never ever
- 3:33Speaker 1: think that you did that.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I know my 50 states. I know South Connecticut is
- 3:37Speaker 1: not one of them. So, so there, neither is East Virginia.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I just wanna make sure that um I'm OK with
- 3:46Speaker 1: the camera because you know sometimes that's right in a
- 3:50Speaker 1: little bit of trouble my chin get gets cut off
- 3:53Speaker 1: but I think I'm OK. Can we see all the
- 3:55Speaker 1: hairs on Brian's chinny chin chin?
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah, there's plenty of those. OK, yeah, yes.
- 4:03Speaker 1: This is true. All right, 888-564-6173. Here's a question that
- 4:08Speaker 1: was submitted online from Thomas in Fallbrook, and he writes,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I have a question and I'm hoping you can help
- 4:15Speaker 1: clarify it. I would like to understand whether we are
- 4:19Speaker 1: born with only a soul or with both a soul
- 4:22Speaker 1: and a spirit. If the spirit is attached to our soul,
- 4:27Speaker 1: is it the same spirit as the Holy Spirit, the
- 4:30Speaker 1: one who gives us connection to God?
- 4:33Speaker 1: Thank you for your guidance. Brian, what would you say
- 4:35Speaker 1: to Tomas?
- 4:39Speaker 1: Well
- 4:41Speaker 1: The Holy Spirit is obviously the Holy Spirit. The Holy
- 4:45Speaker 1: Spirit is God. He's the third person of the Triune God,
- 4:50Speaker 1: and so he's distinct from us, but he comes and
- 4:54Speaker 1: takes up a residence in us. But um we do
- 4:59Speaker 1: have a spirit that is not the Holy Spirit. So,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you know, we are, um,
- 5:08Speaker 1: Spirit beings, ah, of course, we're material, we have a
- 5:12Speaker 1: physical body, ah, we have some, some people, you know,
- 5:16Speaker 1: there's a debate over whether we are a, um,
- 5:22Speaker 1: Uh, kind of a 2.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Oh, I forget the word right now, but, um, you know, 2.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Two part being or a tripart. I remember the tripart,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I can't remember the two part one, so I'll just
- 5:38Speaker 1: call it two part, um, so there is bipartite theological.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Bipart is the is the 3, yeah, yeah, but then, um, oh,
- 5:49Speaker 1: I forget, I, my mind just like right now, but it,
- 5:51Speaker 1: but anyway, so, you know, there's like a long, it's,
- 5:55Speaker 1: it's more of a philosophical discussion, um, but it is
- 5:58Speaker 1: theological as well. So anyway, are we body, soul, and spirit?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Are those all three distinct, or is the spirit and
- 6:07Speaker 1: the soul synonymous? And
- 6:11Speaker 1: I know you could kind of argue both ways, although
- 6:15Speaker 1: in Thessalonians, the apostle Paul does refer to our spirit, soul,
- 6:20Speaker 1: and body, so he refers to all three. So anyway,
- 6:23Speaker 1: this is a long way of just saying that we
- 6:27Speaker 1: do possess a spirit, and that spirit is brought to
- 6:31Speaker 1: life by the Holy Spirit when we come into a
- 6:35Speaker 1: relationship with Jesus.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Yes, and um something else Thomas asked is, is the
- 6:45Speaker 1: spirit in us the Holy Spirit? Is it the same
- 6:48Speaker 1: spirit as the Holy Spirit?
- 6:51Speaker 1: If we've received Jesus, yes, we're in dwelt by the
- 6:53Speaker 1: Holy Spirit, but the Spirit that's in us naturally, no,
- 6:56Speaker 1: it's not the Holy Spirit, it's, it's our spirit. Tomas,
- 6:59Speaker 1: thank you so much for sending in your question through
- 7:01Speaker 1: the pastor's perspective page at kwave.com, which you can easily
- 7:06Speaker 1: get to if you're watching right now on Facebook, YouTube,
- 7:08Speaker 1: or Instagram.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Scan that QR code there and that'll take you right
- 7:12Speaker 1: to the page. Let's go to the phones now. 888-564-6173
- 7:16Speaker 1: is the number to call and we're gonna begin our
- 7:18Speaker 1: time on the phones with Desiree. Oh, Desiree, listening in Fontana,
- 7:23Speaker 1: welcome to Pastor's perspective, Desiree.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Hi, hello.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Hi. So, um, I had a question, um, in regards
- 7:34Speaker 1: to some 3 visitors that I had today who were Mormons. Um,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and I'm always open to anyone who wants to talk
- 7:42Speaker 1: about Jesus Christ, and, and, um, so I had 23
- 7:46Speaker 1: visitors that were coming in to talk to me about
- 7:50Speaker 1: their beliefs in, um, Christianity and Mormon, and, um,
- 7:56Speaker 1: They were talking to me about what makes a person
- 7:59Speaker 1: saved and asked me what made me saved as a Christian,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and I said that I believed in what Jesus did
- 8:04Speaker 1: for me on the cross, and, um, and that, that
- 8:09Speaker 1: I'm saved by the blood of Christ.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And um they added some stuff to it and said
- 8:15Speaker 1: that um that I'm not saved unless someone of a
- 8:19Speaker 1: priesthood from, from Mormons or a church that has that
- 8:25Speaker 1: that anointing to, to basically save me with, with their baptism,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and I said, so what you're saying is there's a
- 8:35Speaker 1: middleman besides Jesus.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And they said, well, no, but there's a priesthood, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: it made me think of, um, I, I believe it's
- 8:43Speaker 1: First Peter of, of chapter two. I think it's talking
- 8:48Speaker 1: about where, uh, we are considered royal priesthood as well
- 8:53Speaker 1: and set apart.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And um they just kept putting themselves in the middle
- 8:58Speaker 1: as you cannot be saved, and I said, OK, so
- 9:02Speaker 1: I have Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and, um,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I live for Him and, um, and I have given
- 9:10Speaker 1: my life for Him. He died for me. I live
- 9:11Speaker 1: for Him. So what made, what are you saying? What
- 9:15Speaker 1: happens to me when I die? Do I not go
- 9:17Speaker 1: to heaven? And he says,
- 9:18Speaker 1: Uh, no, you, you, you, I think you'll have to
- 9:21Speaker 1: go through some kind of suffering, and, and I said
- 9:25Speaker 1: that I'm sorry, but that's a lie, and, um, I
- 9:28Speaker 1: guess it, it kind of made me think of, um,
- 9:32Speaker 1: I wanna say Acts chapter 17 with Simon, the sorcerer of,
- 9:35Speaker 1: of wanting to buy.
- 9:38Speaker 1: The, uh, maybe I'm, I'm, I'm saying it wrong, but
- 9:41Speaker 1: he wanted to be the one to basically have the
- 9:44Speaker 1: power to, uh, baptize and for the wrong motive.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And that's what it felt like. It just felt so
- 9:54Speaker 1: like man-centered. And so before they left, I shook their
- 9:57Speaker 1: hand and I said, you know, I appreciate you guys, um,
- 10:01Speaker 1: going from door to door because they were saying basically
- 10:04Speaker 1: the word of God is not gonna go around the
- 10:06Speaker 1: world without them only because the word that I have,
- 10:10Speaker 1: the Bible that I stand on firmly, is not enough
- 10:14Speaker 1: unless they give me the Book of Mormon. I rejected
- 10:16Speaker 1: it and I said the book that I have.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Is enough and that's the very word that I stand
- 10:22Speaker 1: on and um so what's your main question for us Desiree? What,
- 10:25Speaker 1: what part did you want us to clarify?
- 10:28Speaker 1: I, I just would like to clarify of what, what,
- 10:32Speaker 1: what was that about? What, what really, I just wanted
- 10:36Speaker 1: that clarification of that assurance of what truly gives you
- 10:40Speaker 1: space for everyone to hear clearly that what it is. Yeah,
- 10:45Speaker 1: all right, Brian.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Well, that's right. Let me commend you because you did a,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I think you did a fantastic job in talking to, um,
- 10:53Speaker 1: the fact that she didn't slam the door on them,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I mean that right there is because that's usually what
- 10:58Speaker 1: Brian does when they come to my house, and you know, me,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I mean Brian, me, they, they travel in, in groups
- 11:04Speaker 1: of two or three, and you know they do that
- 11:06Speaker 1: for a purpose. They, they gang up on you a
- 11:08Speaker 1: little bit, and it's great that you held your own.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And yeah, I, I remember a conversation I had with
- 11:15Speaker 1: some Mormons ages ago, and they, they came to my
- 11:17Speaker 1: house as, as well, and we were talking and, you know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I was talking about being saved, and they're like, oh, saved,
- 11:22Speaker 1: do you think you're saved?
- 11:24Speaker 1: And, you know, for them, you can't be saved. Like
- 11:27Speaker 1: you can't know you're saved. You've got to keep working
- 11:31Speaker 1: and making sure you do all the, you know, the
- 11:33Speaker 1: right things and of course, be part of the Latter-day
- 11:37Speaker 1: Saints is, is that goes along with it, you know, so,
- 11:40Speaker 1: so I, you know, I would just take them to
- 11:42Speaker 1: the Bible and show them, for by grace you are saved,
- 11:44Speaker 1: past tense, through faith, and, you know, the sad thing is, with,
- 11:50Speaker 1: as it is with so many.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Um, there's kind of a brainwashing that's gone on, and they,
- 11:56Speaker 1: they've just been sold, um, you know, a spiritual bill
- 11:59Speaker 1: of goods that's phony, and they, they bought it, which
- 12:03Speaker 1: is crazy. Ah, you know, when you really start looking
- 12:06Speaker 1: into Mormonism and the things they believe, you just think,
- 12:08Speaker 1: how do
- 12:10Speaker 1: Otherwise intelligent people even believe this stuff because it really
- 12:13Speaker 1: is wild, a lot of it. And so I, I
- 12:18Speaker 1: think you did great, ah, you obviously are saved, you've
- 12:22Speaker 1: trusted in Jesus, that's what you do to be saved,
- 12:26Speaker 1: and Joseph Smith lived in the 1800s and he claimed
- 12:30Speaker 1: that he saw an angel, um, you know, Moronai appeared
- 12:34Speaker 1: to him and told him all of the
- 12:36Speaker 1: All of the churches were wrong and now he was
- 12:39Speaker 1: going to be the, the founder of, of a new movement,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and you know, there's good evidence that he was pretty
- 12:46Speaker 1: much a con artist and probably a criminal as well, so, um,
- 12:52Speaker 1: but that doesn't seem to dissuade anybody, which is crazy.
- 12:57Speaker 1: 11 thing I will say though, it's interesting because they do.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Like they were saying to you, they really put stock
- 13:03Speaker 1: in this whole priesthood thing, and you know, they claim
- 13:06Speaker 1: to have 12 living apostles, and they claim to possess
- 13:12Speaker 1: the priesthood of Melchizedek, which is wild, and of Aaron also. So,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you know, the priesthood of Aaron was the priesthood of um,
- 13:22Speaker 1: The Old Testament. Aaron was the brother of Moses, and
- 13:25Speaker 1: he became the first priest, high priest, and then his,
- 13:28Speaker 1: his descendants were the priests after him. And, um, and
- 13:32Speaker 1: then Jesus is, according to Psalm 110 and according to
- 13:38Speaker 1: Hebrews chapter 6.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Ah, chapter 5. He, he is a priest according to
- 13:45Speaker 1: the Order of Melchizedek. So, so here's the point. The
- 13:47Speaker 1: funny thing is they claim to possess the priesthood of Aaron. Well, um,
- 13:52Speaker 1: Hebrews chapter 8 tells us the, or chapter 7, the
- 13:56Speaker 1: end of chapter 7 tells us the priesthood of Aaron
- 13:58Speaker 1: is obsolete, doesn't exist anymore. It went out of existence,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and then it tells us it went out of existence
- 14:04Speaker 1: because a new priest arose who was not a descendant
- 14:07Speaker 1: of Aaron.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, but he's a
- 14:11Speaker 1: priest according to the Order of Melchizedek, and he holds
- 14:15Speaker 1: an untransferable priesthood.
- 14:19Speaker 1: So his priesthood is not transferable. It can't be passed
- 14:22Speaker 1: on to anybody else. It's his and his alone. So
- 14:26Speaker 1: they claim to be have the priesthood of Aaron, which
- 14:28Speaker 1: no longer exists. They claim to have the priesthood of Melchizedek,
- 14:32Speaker 1: which can't be passed on from Jesus. He, he forever
- 14:36Speaker 1: is a priest. And um so anyway, that's just a
- 14:41Speaker 1: little side note, if they come back, maybe you can
- 14:45Speaker 1: remember that and talk to them about that, but.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Again, good job, and, um, you know, pray for him.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I mean, who knows?
- 14:55Speaker 1: So you never know, God, God can break through with some,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and I, and I have seen like in even in
- 15:00Speaker 1: the situation where they travel together in teams or groups,
- 15:03Speaker 1: and I, I've even seen situations where one person in
- 15:06Speaker 1: the group, you can tell that.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Something's not sitting quite right with them, and they could
- 15:12Speaker 1: be the very one that the, the Holy Spirit is targeting. So,
- 15:15Speaker 1: so it's not in vain when you do that. I'm
- 15:18Speaker 1: glad you mentioned all that extra stuff too, Brian, because
- 15:20Speaker 1: there's a lot of people who listen to K-wave, a
- 15:23Speaker 1: lot of Mormons who listen to K-wave, and they've called
- 15:25Speaker 1: into the show before. They've, you know, written emails to us, whatever,
- 15:29Speaker 1: and they'll say,
- 15:31Speaker 1: I wish you guys would stop putting down Mormons. We're
- 15:34Speaker 1: your brothers and sisters too, so they're listening right now.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I'm glad you gave that extra information.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and, you know, we
- 15:43Speaker 1: We are glad they're listening and, and, but, but we
- 15:47Speaker 1: really want them to come to know the real Jesus
- 15:50Speaker 1: because you can't, you can't be saved by a Jesus who, um,
- 15:56Speaker 1: is not the Jesus of the Bible. And the Jesus
- 15:58Speaker 1: of the Bible, as we know in John chapter one,
- 16:00Speaker 1: in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
- 16:03Speaker 1: with God and the Word was God.
- 16:05Speaker 1: And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. So,
- 16:08Speaker 1: so Jesus is God. There's only one God. There's not,
- 16:12Speaker 1: you know, it's not Adam who ascended to be God.
- 16:17Speaker 1: There's one God, the eternal Creator, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
- 16:23Speaker 1: and we must.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Embrace him by faith and what he did on the
- 16:28Speaker 1: cross in order to be saved, and we don't add
- 16:32Speaker 1: to that.
- 16:33Speaker 1: We don't add to it joining another denomination or organization
- 16:37Speaker 1: or even going from door to door and telling people
- 16:44Speaker 1: about our beliefs. That doesn't save anybody, so only trust
- 16:48Speaker 1: in Jesus. That's right. Desiree, thanks for your phone call
- 16:50Speaker 1: today here on Pastor's Perspective, 888-564-6173. Let's go to Buena Park.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And uh William, are you at Knott's Berry Farm right now?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I'm scared of rides, but, you know, I've
- 17:04Speaker 1: had my own life of, uh, you know, thrill seeking.
- 17:09Speaker 1: So what do you want to know today?
- 17:12Speaker 1: Sir, all I can say is this, uh, God bless
- 17:15Speaker 1: you guys for what you do because growing up, my
- 17:17Speaker 1: grandma always had you guys on and it's honestly, it's great,
- 17:21Speaker 1: it's just so encouraging, so encouraging. Y'all doing the Lord's work.
- 17:25Speaker 1: God bless you. God bless you guys.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Mm, well, thank you. That's great. Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Uh, I'm a thinker and then I, I'm, I'm always thinking.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You know, I'm always thinking about everything.
- 17:41Speaker 1: But, um, and, and today, in today's passage I, I
- 17:44Speaker 1: wanted to know about was the Joel 2:28 when it says,
- 17:48Speaker 1: and I have my Bible right here on me, you
- 17:49Speaker 1: gotta keep the sword on me just like Peter and all. And, um,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and it says,
- 17:54Speaker 1: The Lord will pour out His Spirit, that's the title,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and it shall come to pass afterward that I will
- 17:59Speaker 1: pour out my Spirit unto all flesh.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. Your old men
- 18:05Speaker 1: shall dream dreams. Your monks, your young men shall see visions.
- 18:09Speaker 1: It's highlighted here in my passage. It's been on my
- 18:11Speaker 1: mind for like, man, a while. I don't even know, probably,
- 18:15Speaker 1: probably a while, probably like 2020, maybe 2019. I don't
- 18:18Speaker 1: even know. But, um, in this regard, in this regard,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I wanna know what that pertains to because like, is it,
- 18:24Speaker 1: is it pertaining to.
- 18:26Speaker 1: You're oneself, like maybe the goals or aspirations, and then
- 18:30Speaker 1: stepping out of faith and if you're fearful, you could
- 18:32Speaker 1: see yourself doing these things.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Like whatever it may be, some things of the Lord,
- 18:37Speaker 1: like you don't even speak, it just comes and then
- 18:39Speaker 1: it's like almost confirmation where you're, you, I work in
- 18:42Speaker 1: customer service, so I talk to different people every day,
- 18:44Speaker 1: what they do about their job, and it gives me
- 18:46Speaker 1: just my insight on what direction I should go to
- 18:48Speaker 1: because I, I just turned to.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Just turned 26, so I'm a young man trying to
- 18:52Speaker 1: find my way, you know, but, um, his way is
- 18:55Speaker 1: the best way, and you know, the life, you know,
- 18:58Speaker 1: and then, so I wanna know what that means as
- 19:01Speaker 1: well as to pertain to old man child your dreams.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Now I have a, I have a grandfather. He'll be
- 19:05Speaker 1: turning 90, 92 in October, uh, 21st. Thank God for
- 19:10Speaker 1: his health. Thank you. Wow, that's great.
- 19:13Speaker 1: His, his mind is, is, is, uh, his mind is,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you know, so sometimes it, it takes an effect where
- 19:19Speaker 1: he has, he has these things, there are little episodes
- 19:22Speaker 1: and all that, but for the most part, his body
- 19:23Speaker 1: is healthy, like clean bill of health, thank God, thank God.
- 19:27Speaker 1: That's awesome, William. So is your question like does this
- 19:30Speaker 1: Bible verse pertain to you? Is this something you're experiencing,
- 19:35Speaker 1: dreams and visions and everything, and you're wondering if this is, I,
- 19:37Speaker 1: I want, yeah, yeah. Mhm, mhm. All right, Brian, what
- 19:41Speaker 1: do you say to William?
- 19:43Speaker 1: Yeah, William, um,
- 19:45Speaker 1: So glad you called, and it's great that you're thinking
- 19:48Speaker 1: about this stuff. That's, that's good. It's good to think
- 19:51Speaker 1: on ah the things of God. So, so the passage
- 19:55Speaker 1: from Joel, and maybe you, maybe you're familiar with this,
- 19:59Speaker 1: but if you go over to the New Testament, to
- 20:01Speaker 1: the second chapter of Acts, um, and we come to
- 20:06Speaker 1: what's called the Day of Pentecost.
- 20:09Speaker 1: So Jesus has died, he's risen again, he's promised the
- 20:12Speaker 1: disciples that the Holy Spirit is going to be poured out,
- 20:14Speaker 1: he's ascended back into heaven, and he says, wait, um.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Till you're empowered from, from heaven. And so then in
- 20:27Speaker 1: chapter two, it says, so when the day of Pentecost
- 20:29Speaker 1: fully came, um, the Holy Spirit came down and rested
- 20:36Speaker 1: on the disciples as they were gathered together, and they
- 20:40Speaker 1: began to speak with other tongues, and there was a, um,
- 20:44Speaker 1: over each of their heads there was what looked like
- 20:48Speaker 1: a flame of fire.
- 20:50Speaker 1: And so they, they began to speak with tongues, and
- 20:54Speaker 1: they began to praise God, and all kinds of people
- 20:59Speaker 1: from all around the world were in Jerusalem at the
- 21:02Speaker 1: time because this is the feast of Pentecost and all
- 21:05Speaker 1: of the adult males come to Jerusalem during this feast,
- 21:10Speaker 1: but they come from all over the world because they're
- 21:12Speaker 1: spread from all over the world at this time, so
- 21:13Speaker 1: they speak a variety of different languages.
- 21:16Speaker 1: But they all hear this small group of people. They
- 21:19Speaker 1: hear them speaking the praises of God in their languages
- 21:23Speaker 1: from their country. And so their big question is, wow,
- 21:27Speaker 1: what is going on? These people are, they're kind of
- 21:31Speaker 1: freaked out a bit. It's like, wow, how, how do
- 21:33Speaker 1: these people know these languages and what, what, what is
- 21:36Speaker 1: happening here? And somebody even said, oh yeah, they're drunk,
- 21:39Speaker 1: you know.
- 21:40Speaker 1: And Peter stands up and he says, No, they're not drunk.
- 21:43Speaker 1: It's only 9 in the morning. He says, but this
- 21:46Speaker 1: is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. In
- 21:50Speaker 1: the last days, I will pour out my Spirit on
- 21:52Speaker 1: all flesh. So, so Peter tells us that on the
- 21:55Speaker 1: day of Pentecost, Joel's prophecy was fulfilled. So the Spirit
- 21:59Speaker 1: was poured out on the disciples, and they were empowered
- 22:04Speaker 1: to serve Jesus.
- 22:06Speaker 1: So we who are believers today and everybody in between,
- 22:12Speaker 1: the day of Pentecost and today, um, as we put
- 22:15Speaker 1: our trust in Jesus, we are also filled with the
- 22:19Speaker 1: Holy Spirit and we are empowered to serve the Lord
- 22:23Speaker 1: and God gives us a calling and He gives us
- 22:26Speaker 1: gifts in order to fulfill the calling.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And, um, he, like he, like you said there, he says,
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know, prophesying and having dreams and visions, and these
- 22:36Speaker 1: are the things that began to happen when the Holy
- 22:40Speaker 1: Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost. So,
- 22:43Speaker 1: that was the beginning of what the Bible calls the
- 22:45Speaker 1: last days, and we're still in that period known as
- 22:48Speaker 1: the last days. We're just, I think we're just at
- 22:51Speaker 1: the other end, the far end of the last days,
- 22:54Speaker 1: getting ready for Jesus to return.
- 22:56Speaker 1: But the same Holy Spirit that was poured out on
- 22:58Speaker 1: that day and that was promised in Joel, the Holy Spirit.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Is um with us today as well and so as you, William,
- 23:08Speaker 1: you just say, Lord, you know, fill me with your spirit.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I want to be full of the spirit in you.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Just trust him like you're doing, you know, you're going
- 23:16Speaker 1: to work and you're in fellowship and you're in the
- 23:19Speaker 1: word and you're looking for opportunities to serve the Lord, God.
- 23:25Speaker 1: is empowering you in those things. So that's what that
- 23:29Speaker 1: passage is about.
- 23:31Speaker 1: William, thanks for calling in today to Pastor's Perspective. Early
- 23:34Speaker 1: happy birthday to your grandpa and thank your grandma for
- 23:38Speaker 1: always listening to K-Wave and, you know, training up her
- 23:41Speaker 1: grandchild and the way he should go, and all these
- 23:44Speaker 1: years later, he's listening to Kwave for himself. God bless you, man. Yes,
- 23:49Speaker 1: it is. 888-5864-6173. Rachel and Dana Point watching us on YouTube.
- 23:55Speaker 1: We'll wave hi to Rachel. How can we help you today?
- 24:00Speaker 1: Hi, so thanks for the call. Let me take my question.
- 24:05Speaker 1: The question is I have um 3 of us girlfriends
- 24:09Speaker 1: who got together.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And two of the ladies were talking about how their
- 24:14Speaker 1: grown children are just a little bit discouraged because they're
- 24:19Speaker 1: home kids. It's like the same story. They're both home.
- 24:22Speaker 1: We're homeschoolers and just told their kids all their life
- 24:26Speaker 1: that God has a, um, someone special to wait on
- 24:29Speaker 1: the Lord. Well, now they're in their mid-30s. I, I
- 24:32Speaker 1: don't wanna give any names just in case, you know,
- 24:34Speaker 1: just to protect their image and whatnot, but, um, they
- 24:39Speaker 1: said that, um.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Maybe, it depends on how the Lord wants to work
- 24:44Speaker 1: it out, um.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Having the kids introduced, boy and girl, obviously.
- 24:51Speaker 1: So, um, the other sister was like, that's not right,
- 24:56Speaker 1: you can't do that, you guys are meddling.
- 25:00Speaker 1: But everyone seems to be open. Even I've shared the
- 25:03Speaker 1: story with, uh, is it, um, Isaac's wife where the
- 25:09Speaker 1: servant went out and they asked for a guy to, uh,
- 25:13Speaker 1: water the camels, um, and I think, um, she was
- 25:17Speaker 1: a Gentile. She wasn't even a, you know, part of the.
- 25:22Speaker 1: You know, Israel and all that. I think she was
- 25:24Speaker 1: a Gentile, Rachel.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Um,
- 25:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Rebecca, yeah, but she was part of Abraham's family,
- 25:34Speaker 1: so there was, um, at this point, there wasn't really
- 25:37Speaker 1: a nation of Israel yet, so that, that would come
- 25:39Speaker 1: later because her grandson Jacob would become Israel. Yeah, so, yes, exactly.
- 25:46Speaker 1: And so I was giving my girlfriend that story to
- 25:49Speaker 1: remember what, and then even with how Naomi kind of
- 25:53Speaker 1: intermingled again, I guess.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Yeah, right, yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 1: And it was pretty, pretty hardcore the way Naomi told
- 26:02Speaker 1: her to do it because I would assume having a
- 26:05Speaker 1: woman at your feet, you know, would be such a scandal.
- 26:09Speaker 1: But yet, um, that's how the Lord put it all
- 26:12Speaker 1: together and, and, and they were blessed. I mean, we
- 26:14Speaker 1: were blessed. She isn't she the great, great grandma of Jesus?
- 26:19Speaker 1: So I was telling them, yeah, so as I was
- 26:22Speaker 1: telling my girlfriends about.
- 26:24Speaker 1: They're heavy hearts for their kids, and one's a boy,
- 26:27Speaker 1: one's like, they're around the same age, almost the same
- 26:29Speaker 1: uh upbringing, Calvary Chapel. It's like, it's like very parallel,
- 26:33Speaker 1: both of them.
- 26:35Speaker 1: But this other um ladies like you guys are wrong
- 26:39Speaker 1: and that's not right and that's not of the Lord
- 26:41Speaker 1: and so then are you asking, is it OK to
- 26:44Speaker 1: like set up your kids with people you might know
- 26:48Speaker 1: or whatever, Rachel? Well, yeah, yeah, because it sounds like
- 26:52Speaker 1: their kids are, it's kind of like the same storyline
- 26:55Speaker 1: where they tried even the online when it was in
- 26:57Speaker 1: and
- 26:58Speaker 1: And everything's just not, it's just been a mess because
- 27:00Speaker 1: these people who say they're Christians, they end up not
- 27:03Speaker 1: being Christians and drinking and you know, so the mom's like, well,
- 27:07Speaker 1: my daughter doesn't drink and she's like, my son doesn't
- 27:10Speaker 1: drink and they're built, they're both musical, raised in Calvary.
- 27:15Speaker 1: There you go. Maybe it's uh
- 27:18Speaker 1: I guess, you know, I guess the big, I mean,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I don't, it's not wrong to do that. I mean, it,
- 27:23Speaker 1: it might not work out, but, you know, if you're just,
- 27:28Speaker 1: obviously you can't force anybody in that direction, although many
- 27:32Speaker 1: people in the world today, in different parts of the world,
- 27:35Speaker 1: actually do have arranged marriages, you know, I know people
- 27:39Speaker 1: that were, um,
- 27:42Speaker 1: Sort of promised to one another when they were little
- 27:46Speaker 1: children and they grew up and then they married because
- 27:49Speaker 1: that was the culture and um so all that to say,
- 27:54Speaker 1: you know, that that that still happens. It doesn't really
- 27:56Speaker 1: happen in our Western culture, but um.
- 28:00Speaker 1: To suggest that maybe there could be a match here
- 28:05Speaker 1: and to pray about it, that's great. Obviously, at the
- 28:08Speaker 1: end of the day, it's the couple that's going to
- 28:11Speaker 1: make the decision whether or not this is, you know,
- 28:15Speaker 1: God bringing them together, and they might, they might come
- 28:19Speaker 1: together and realize, oh wow, you know, this is it,
- 28:22Speaker 1: this is God's plan, and they might.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Meet each other and say, oh, you know, you're nice and,
- 28:29Speaker 1: you know, this is good and fine, but it doesn't
- 28:32Speaker 1: go anywhere beyond that. So, so I think the only
- 28:35Speaker 1: issue would be if, if they're trying to force something,
- 28:38Speaker 1: then that would be concerning, but it doesn't sound like
- 28:41Speaker 1: they're trying to force anything. It just sounds like they're
- 28:44Speaker 1: maybe just dreaming like, wow, wouldn't it be great if
- 28:46Speaker 1: our kids got together? Well.
- 28:48Speaker 1: It sounds like it could be great.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I looked up, uh, earlier this week on Monday, I
- 28:53Speaker 1: think it was when Char was on and, uh, the,
- 28:57Speaker 1: the topic got brought up about Christian dating, and I
- 28:59Speaker 1: think he mentioned that he met Grace through a friend,
- 29:02Speaker 1: that a friend kind of told him, oh, hey, I
- 29:05Speaker 1: want to introduce you to this girl or something.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I don't remember the details, but you know, I'm, I'm
- 29:12Speaker 1: sure glad they met. Yeah, that's true. So, uh, because
- 29:16Speaker 1: I got a great daughter-in-law and some really great grandkids
- 29:20Speaker 1: out of it. So awesome. Rachel, thanks for calling in
- 29:22Speaker 1: and yeah, maybe go back and listen to Monday's episode,
- 29:25Speaker 1: October 5th, 2026. It's archived on Facebook, YouTube, Apple Podcasts,
- 29:30Speaker 1: and Spotify, and it is break time here on Pastors.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Perspective. 888-564-6173 is the number to call. We're gonna be
- 29:39Speaker 1: in the studio for another half hour, so call in 888-564-6173.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Pastor Brian Broderson answering your questions till 4 o'clock. 888-564-6173.
- 30:20Speaker 1: We are back here on Pastor's Perspective, 888-564-6173, 888-564-6173. Pastor
- 30:28Speaker 1: Brian Broderson answering your Bible questions till 4 o'clock, so
- 30:31Speaker 1: call in to 888-564-6173.
- 30:37Speaker 1: I just realized that I made a mistake and I
- 30:42Speaker 1: said that Rebecca was the grandmother of Jacob who became Israel.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Rebecca was the mother of Jacob who became Israel. Sarah
- 30:51Speaker 1: was the grandmother, so just, you know, wanted to correct
- 30:55Speaker 1: that in case there were some.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Some people concerned out there that I didn't know my
- 31:02Speaker 1: Bible that well. It's hard to keep track of all
- 31:04Speaker 1: the books and characters and everything. The other day I
- 31:09Speaker 1: was talking about the, um, which, which is a good
- 31:13Speaker 1: topic to bring up, but we do have phone calls
- 31:16Speaker 1: that we want to get to. But, um, the verse
- 31:19Speaker 1: in Acts, and I can't think of it right now,
- 31:23Speaker 1: where
- 31:24Speaker 1: Paul is quoting Jesus, but we don't have anything in
- 31:28Speaker 1: the gospel where Jesus actually said these words, and I
- 31:31Speaker 1: can't remember what it is right now. But because I could,
- 31:33Speaker 1: I was like, wait a minute, did Jesus, I, I
- 31:36Speaker 1: don't remember reading that in the Gospels, but it is
- 31:38Speaker 1: in there, it's just in Acts where Paul refers to
- 31:41Speaker 1: Jesus saying these words, so I, I should not have
- 31:44Speaker 1: doubted myself, but I did. What passage is that? Do
- 31:46Speaker 1: you remember?
- 31:48Speaker 1: Well, uh, there, there is a passage in, um,
- 31:54Speaker 1: I think it's a, there, there is a passage where
- 31:56Speaker 1: Paul says Jesus said it is more blessed to give
- 31:59Speaker 1: than yes, that's it, that's it, that's it, that's it, yeah,
- 32:01Speaker 1: it's in Corinthians, it's not in Acts. Oh, OK, you're right.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and so yes, but right, there is no record
- 32:08Speaker 1: of Jesus saying that, um, but of course, we know
- 32:11Speaker 1: from John's Gospel that Jesus said and did many things
- 32:14Speaker 1: that are not recorded, and if they were recorded, all
- 32:17Speaker 1: the books in the world couldn't contain the things that
- 32:19Speaker 1: would be written therein, so.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yes, but that's it. That's it. Thank you. All right, um,
- 32:26Speaker 1: so we were done with Rachel, but, um, how was that?
- 32:29Speaker 1: And we do have other calls, Rachel, so what else
- 32:32Speaker 1: did you want to ask quickly?
- 32:33Speaker 1: I, I, I try not to call if I really
- 32:36Speaker 1: have to. It's just, uh, I've been trying for a
- 32:39Speaker 1: week already. So, so, um, both, um, children are well
- 32:44Speaker 1: off already. They're, they're established. He's like, OK, mom, I
- 32:48Speaker 1: have the house, I have the, I have everything. I'm
- 32:50Speaker 1: ready for my wife. Where is she? It's been 40,
- 32:53Speaker 1: about 30 years that you've been telling me.
- 32:55Speaker 1: They don't know each other. And the girl from the
- 32:58Speaker 1: other um girlfriend, she's like, OK, mom, you know, I'm ready.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I got my ducks in order. Where's he at? It's
- 33:04Speaker 1: been 30 years. Well, maybe this is the case, right, Brian?
- 33:08Speaker 1: Who knows?
- 33:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you know, they maybe, uh, you know, again,
- 33:15Speaker 1: they could meet and it could be love at first sight.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, this is the person that I'd be
- 33:21Speaker 1: prepared for for 30 years, or they could meet and
- 33:24Speaker 1: just say, it's nice to meet you. Yeah. So, those
- 33:27Speaker 1: are the things that I think.
- 33:29Speaker 1: You don't want to meddle beyond just maybe suggesting or,
- 33:34Speaker 1: you know, setting up an opportunity. People do that all
- 33:36Speaker 1: the time, right? I mean, my wife has been, um,
- 33:40Speaker 1: you know, she's in our younger years, you know, she
- 33:44Speaker 1: was always matchmaking, always thinking like, ah, oh, they would
- 33:49Speaker 1: be amazing. And in some cases, um,
- 33:53Speaker 1: People, you know, we, we have so many friends that
- 33:57Speaker 1: met through.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Kind of relationships with us, and then they ended up, um,
- 34:04Speaker 1: you know, meeting each other and falling in love. I
- 34:07Speaker 1: think of, um, uh, Brian, you know, you know, Neil
- 34:10Speaker 1: Goding and Romy, um, you know, Romy.
- 34:15Speaker 1: was a young girl who
- 34:18Speaker 1: Ah, you know, came to the Lord and was part
- 34:21Speaker 1: of our ministry in Vista in the early days. And
- 34:25Speaker 1: then when we moved to England, you know, she, she
- 34:28Speaker 1: became a really good friend. So she, uh, she had
- 34:30Speaker 1: gone with us on some of the outreaches. So anyway,
- 34:32Speaker 1: when we finally moved there, she came over to visit.
- 34:35Speaker 1: And in the meantime, I'd lived in England for a while,
- 34:38Speaker 1: and I met this guy, Neil, and he was really great. And, uh,
- 34:41Speaker 1: one night we all went out to dinner and
- 34:45Speaker 1: Lo and behold, there were, uh, love was in the
- 34:49Speaker 1: air sparks and butterflies, fireworks, yeah, yeah, so they, you know,
- 34:55Speaker 1: they've been married a long time now, and, uh, yeah,
- 34:57Speaker 1: it's great. So that does happen. It does. Rachel, thanks
- 35:01Speaker 1: for your phone call today on Pastor's Perspective. And now
- 35:03Speaker 1: here's Michelle in San Diego. Thank you, Michelle, for calling 888-564-6173.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Hello. Hi.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Hi.
- 35:15Speaker 1: So my husband keeps asking me this, to ask you
- 35:18Speaker 1: guys this question. He wanted to know what happened to
- 35:20Speaker 1: the spirit of the Nephlins, if it's, he thinks it's,
- 35:24Speaker 1: they're still roaming around the earth today.
- 35:28Speaker 1: And why can't your husband call and ask?
- 35:32Speaker 1: I don't know. Just wondering. No, I'm joking. Brian, what
- 35:35Speaker 1: do you say to Michelle's husband, Mr. Michelle?
- 35:41Speaker 1: Well, you know, here's, here's the thing, we, we don't
- 35:43Speaker 1: know much about that. Um, the Bible doesn't give us
- 35:48Speaker 1: a whole lot. There, there are some people who don't
- 35:52Speaker 1: even believe that the Nephilim were, um, the sort of half,
- 35:58Speaker 1: Spirit, half human beings, um, or, or they were the
- 36:04Speaker 1: ones who, you know, caused that kind of offspring to
- 36:07Speaker 1: come into existence.
- 36:09Speaker 1: So we know that um
- 36:12Speaker 1: Everyone perished in the flood.
- 36:15Speaker 1: They would have perished in the flood if they had
- 36:19Speaker 1: physical bodies, but then of course if they're also spirit beings,
- 36:24Speaker 1: you know, demonic beings or something like that, then they would,
- 36:27Speaker 1: they would go on, but they would go on in
- 36:29Speaker 1: a place of judgment. So there's a passage in 2 Peter,
- 36:34Speaker 1: and there's also one in Jude that talk about the
- 36:39Speaker 1: angels who did not, it says they did not keep
- 36:43Speaker 1: their first estate.
- 36:45Speaker 1: And because of that, they are reserved in chains of darkness.
- 36:49Speaker 1: So that could be a reference to them, that they
- 36:52Speaker 1: didn't keep their first estate. In other words, they didn't
- 36:55Speaker 1: remain in the place that God had created them in,
- 36:58Speaker 1: but they stepped out of that and crossed a boundary,
- 37:01Speaker 1: and this is where the idea that, you know, spirit
- 37:05Speaker 1: beings and human beings had cohabited and produced offspring.
- 37:09Speaker 1: So maybe that is a reference, but we just don't
- 37:12Speaker 1: know because the Bible doesn't really give us any more
- 37:15Speaker 1: detail on it. Some ancient literature, Jewish literature like the
- 37:19Speaker 1: Book of Enoch, for example, goes into extensive detail about
- 37:24Speaker 1: all of this, but it's just, it's not inspired, so
- 37:27Speaker 1: we can't take it and say, oh, this is exactly
- 37:30Speaker 1: what happened. This is kind of the mythology of the
- 37:32Speaker 1: time that's rooted in what we read in Genesis, but,
- 37:37Speaker 1: Uh, it's kind of the imagination of humans, uh, kind
- 37:43Speaker 1: of run wild, so, so we don't know really.
- 37:46Speaker 1: What do you think, Michelle?
- 37:49Speaker 1: Yeah, no, yeah, he did say something about the book
- 37:51Speaker 1: of Enoch too. He must have been reading something or
- 37:55Speaker 1: watching something on TikTok, and that's why he had all
- 37:58Speaker 1: these questions, and he was, he was asking me and
- 38:00Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know. I'm gonna ask the
- 38:02Speaker 1: pastor's perspective, they know everything.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I think there's so much talk about that today,
- 38:07Speaker 1: you know, lots of, I mean, the, these things kind
- 38:09Speaker 1: of come and go in cycles, you know, I remember,
- 38:12Speaker 1: I don't know, 30 years ago or whatever, a lot
- 38:15Speaker 1: of people were talking about the Nephilim, and then, you
- 38:17Speaker 1: didn't hear so much about them. We always did on
- 38:19Speaker 1: pastor's perspective, because it's always a topic that comes up.
- 38:23Speaker 1: But now, again, with, like you said, TikTok and things
- 38:26Speaker 1: like that, ah, it's all kind of back, front and center,
- 38:31Speaker 1: and everybody's talking about the Book of Enoch, and they're
- 38:33Speaker 1: reading the Book of Enoch.
- 38:34Speaker 1: You know, you can read the book of Enoch if
- 38:36Speaker 1: you want, but just make sure you understand it's not
- 38:38Speaker 1: the Bible, it's not God's word, it's not inspired, and
- 38:42Speaker 1: so it's not gonna give you accurate information.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I think the Nephilim of uh 2026 though is the
- 38:48Speaker 1: Ethiopian Bible. We get like at least once a week
- 38:51Speaker 1: it seems. It's kind of died down recently, but I
- 38:54Speaker 1: remember earlier this year it seemed like once a week
- 38:57Speaker 1: or something we'd be getting. It's true. And now that
- 39:00Speaker 1: you brought it up again, someone's gonna call next week.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Next week we're gonna be answering questions on the Ethiopian Bible.
- 39:09Speaker 1: It's how it works. All right, Michelle, thanks for calling
- 39:12Speaker 1: in today.
- 39:13Speaker 1: OK, Brian, I've, I've gotta tell you this, um,
- 39:17Speaker 1: I talked to our good friend, Doctor Ed Stetzer last night,
- 39:21Speaker 1: and he said, hey, let's be in the studio together
- 39:25Speaker 1: next week. And I said, well,
- 39:28Speaker 1: How about you go in the studio and I'll go
- 39:30Speaker 1: on Zoom so that might show up next week. Nice.
- 39:34Speaker 1: On Wednesday and I'll, and I'll, and I'll meet you, yeah,
- 39:36Speaker 1: on Wednesday. Yeah, we're, we're here for a little bit longer.
- 39:40Speaker 1: We're gonna come home on Friday, next Friday, a week
- 39:42Speaker 1: from today. So, um, yeah.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Got it. OK, well, it's been months since Ed's been on,
- 39:50Speaker 1: and I mean he's a little reminder. Hold him to it. Yes, yes,
- 39:54Speaker 1: I will send him a text right now. Uh, see
- 39:58Speaker 1: what he says. All right, uh, Denise in Los Angeles
- 40:00Speaker 1: listening on the Kwave app. Hello, thanks for downloading the
- 40:04Speaker 1: app and thanks for calling 888-564-6173.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Thank you for taking my call. Thank you for all
- 40:12Speaker 1: that you guys do. I really appreciate, uh, being able
- 40:16Speaker 1: to call in and get answers from time to time.
- 40:20Speaker 1: And my question is.
- 40:23Speaker 1: How do you decipher?
- 40:25Speaker 1: If it's yourself, your own temptations and your desires, um,
- 40:30Speaker 1: thinking of James 1:4-16, uh, temptation comes from our own
- 40:35Speaker 1: desires which entice us and drag us away. These desires
- 40:39Speaker 1: give birth to simple actions, and when sin is allowed
- 40:42Speaker 1: to grow, it gives birth to death. So don't be misled,
- 40:46Speaker 1: my dear brothers and sisters, but how do you know
- 40:50Speaker 1: if it's the devil?
- 40:53Speaker 1: Or you and
- 40:57Speaker 1: Well, I hate to say it loud, but when I
- 41:01Speaker 1: come to the Gospels, I read through the Bible every year,
- 41:06Speaker 1: and when I come through the Gospels.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Everything, it's like so much doubt.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Comes
- 41:15Speaker 1: And that God has such an awesome track record in
- 41:18Speaker 1: my life. I've been a Christian all my life that
- 41:21Speaker 1: I know that God is real. I know the Holy Spirit.
- 41:24Speaker 1: I know Jesus. But what, what, why is there so
- 41:29Speaker 1: much doubt when I get to the gospel? It's just,
- 41:32Speaker 1: I know it's just, it's unbelievable and incomprehendible what Jesus
- 41:36Speaker 1: did to us, but there's so much proof that's outside
- 41:40Speaker 1: of the Bible that he is who he says he is, so.
- 41:44Speaker 1: It's kind of a two-part question.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you know, I, I wrote a
- 41:53Speaker 1: A book on the subject of spiritual warfare, and it's
- 41:57Speaker 1: called The Powers of Darkness and the People of God.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And I talked about the temptation to doubt in there.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Now Satan is the tempter. That's one of his titles.
- 42:09Speaker 1: He's a tempter. So, um, but of course he plays
- 42:13Speaker 1: on our weaknesses and he plays on our sinful nature
- 42:17Speaker 1: at times. So everyone is tempted, like you just read
- 42:20Speaker 1: in James, everyone is tempted when they are led away
- 42:22Speaker 1: by their own desire.
- 42:24Speaker 1: And so there is that combination, but
- 42:28Speaker 1: When it comes to something like doubt.
- 42:30Speaker 1: There's, we have to make sure we understand that there's
- 42:33Speaker 1: a difference between being tempted to doubt and actually doubting.
- 42:37Speaker 1: So just because you're tempted to doubt doesn't mean you're doubting.
- 42:41Speaker 1: It just means you're being tempted. You're being, you know, assailed,
- 42:45Speaker 1: and many Christians have experienced this where I've had that
- 42:51Speaker 1: same experience that you're talking about where, you know, reading through.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Parts of the Bible, but you know, the Gospels, where
- 42:58Speaker 1: you read something and suddenly there's a thing in your
- 43:00Speaker 1: mind like, how could that have really happened? Come on,
- 43:02Speaker 1: do you really believe that? You know, these subtle little
- 43:06Speaker 1: suggestions just start coming into your mind and you're like, oh,
- 43:10Speaker 1: I hate that. I, no, I don't think that, I
- 43:12Speaker 1: don't believe that. I don't feel that way, and that's
- 43:16Speaker 1: where I think we need to discern that this is,
- 43:19Speaker 1: this is the devil, he's tempting us to doubt.
- 43:22Speaker 1: And so we resist the temptation, we just say, you
- 43:24Speaker 1: know what, I'm gonna press in and I'm gonna trust
- 43:27Speaker 1: the Lord and I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna give
- 43:29Speaker 1: into this and um.
- 43:33Speaker 1: But it is not uncommon.
- 43:36Speaker 1: The experience that you just described.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Right.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Does that help? Uh, he's, the devil is not omnipresent.
- 43:48Speaker 1: No, but he has, he has a multitude of, you know, forces,
- 43:52Speaker 1: and they all basically do the same thing, so it
- 43:56Speaker 1: doesn't have to be the devil himself, ah, and it's
- 43:59Speaker 1: probably not the devil himself, but his, his, um,
- 44:05Speaker 1: His, um,
- 44:08Speaker 1: You know, proteges, they're very capable. I mean, you think
- 44:12Speaker 1: of the, the demon possessed people in the New Testament
- 44:15Speaker 1: that you read about, um, and then we read about
- 44:18Speaker 1: Satan coming to Jesus and we read about him tempting Jesus.
- 44:22Speaker 1: So when we read about the people in the, in
- 44:25Speaker 1: the New Testament that were demonized, that's what it's called, ah,
- 44:28Speaker 1: literally they were demonized, um, it doesn't necessarily speak of
- 44:33Speaker 1: Satan himself.
- 44:35Speaker 1: But it is the demonic hordes which are under his
- 44:40Speaker 1: um direction.
- 44:43Speaker 1: So I, I, I, I just, I, I can't comprehend
- 44:47Speaker 1: what it, how do they know our thoughts.
- 44:51Speaker 1: You know, if I'm not saying it out loud, how
- 44:56Speaker 1: Well, the spiritual realm is, you know, we, there's a
- 45:00Speaker 1: lot about it that we don't understand, but they, um,
- 45:04Speaker 1: you know, they do, they're able to influence even our
- 45:07Speaker 1: thinking process we know because remember when Jesus, um, when
- 45:13Speaker 1: he's talking about the fact that he is, um, you know,
- 45:18Speaker 1: he is the Christ, he is the Son of the
- 45:20Speaker 1: living God, just as Peter said.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Ah, but then he goes on to talk about, um,
- 45:25Speaker 1: the cross, and Peter jumps in and he says, Lord.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Forbid that should ever happen. That will never happen to you.
- 45:36Speaker 1: And Jesus says to Peter, get behind me, Satan. So
- 45:40Speaker 1: Peter is influenced by Satan to say the things that
- 45:44Speaker 1: he says. Now how that actually works out.
- 45:49Speaker 1: We don't know because we don't have the, the understanding
- 45:53Speaker 1: or the insight into the spiritual realm, but it is clear,
- 45:57Speaker 1: there's many passages, it's clear where the devil influences our thinking.
- 46:01Speaker 1: So if he can influence our thinking, I don't think
- 46:03Speaker 1: it would be a problem for him to also know
- 46:07Speaker 1: what we're thinking.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I've always thought that maybe he can influence our thinking.
- 46:12Speaker 1: We act out on that influence in one way or
- 46:15Speaker 1: another by either telling a friend or saying something out
- 46:18Speaker 1: loud and then that's what he hears or maybe not
- 46:22Speaker 1: him himself like you said, but one of his minions
- 46:26Speaker 1: or whatever and and that that's why we think.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, for some reason it is a hang
- 46:32Speaker 1: up for many people. I've talked to many people over
- 46:34Speaker 1: the years that have, they're hung up on the idea
- 46:36Speaker 1: that the devil could read our mind. I, I don't
- 46:39Speaker 1: honestly don't understand why that bothers people so much. It's like, well,
- 46:43Speaker 1: who cares if he could read our mind? It's just
- 46:45Speaker 1: what he does, um, but
- 46:49Speaker 1: We do again, we, we see, um, you know, places
- 46:55Speaker 1: in scripture and from our own human experience. Let's just
- 46:58Speaker 1: say the scenario you just gave, Brian. Let's just take
- 47:02Speaker 1: that off the table and just say you don't say
- 47:05Speaker 1: anything to anybody. Think about it. Think about when you're praying.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Think about sometimes when you're praying and nobody knows you're praying.
- 47:14Speaker 1: You are praying silently. You're praying in your mind. You're
- 47:18Speaker 1: not even in a posture, like you don't have your
- 47:20Speaker 1: head bowed, you don't have, you're not on your knees,
- 47:23Speaker 1: but you know, there's something really on your heart and
- 47:25Speaker 1: you're praying, and then suddenly you get this crazy interference
- 47:29Speaker 1: in your mind that's disrupting your prayer.
- 47:33Speaker 1: How is that happening? Well,
- 47:36Speaker 1: Good point. The devil obviously knows, the demons obviously know
- 47:39Speaker 1: your brain, and they don't like that, so they want
- 47:42Speaker 1: to mess with it.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Very interesting. Denise, thanks for calling in today to Pastor's
- 47:47Speaker 1: perspective at 888-564-6173. Maybe, Denise, um, it might be helpful
- 47:54Speaker 1: if you wanted to take a little bit of a
- 47:55Speaker 1: deeper dive to, um, to pick up the book, Powers
- 47:58Speaker 1: of Darkness, People of God.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Um, and you can find that at echoes of Mercy.com
- 48:06Speaker 1: and then go to Back to Basics Radio and um
- 48:09Speaker 1: you can, you can um get the book there.
- 48:13Speaker 1: So from echoes of Mercy.com, click Back to Basics radio
- 48:18Speaker 1: and then and then on Back to basics it says
- 48:21Speaker 1: books and, you know, other materials from Pastor Brian. Uh-huh,
- 48:26Speaker 1: very good. All right, Denise, thanks for calling in today
- 48:28Speaker 1: to Pastor's perspective. Let's uh uh read at least one
- 48:32Speaker 1: more question that was submitted online. This one is from John.
- 48:36Speaker 1: And he asks, he watches us on YouTube, by the way,
- 48:39Speaker 1: John asks, when or where in the Bible is the
- 48:42Speaker 1: earliest statement of God's eternal salvation with Him in heaven?
- 48:47Speaker 1: Is it Psalm 23? What do you say to John, Brian?
- 48:54Speaker 1: Mm.
- 48:56Speaker 1: With
- 48:57Speaker 1: The earliest statement regarding eternal salvation.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Mm.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Um, I, I'm trying to think, you know, is it, I,
- 49:13Speaker 1: I think honestly it would probably be.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Uh, something in Job, um.
- 49:20Speaker 1: You know, Job 19, where Job says, I know that
- 49:23Speaker 1: my Redeemer lives.
- 49:25Speaker 1: And um one day he will stand upon the earth
- 49:28Speaker 1: and although my flesh is destroyed, although my skin is
- 49:32Speaker 1: dissolved or destroyed, I know that in my flesh I
- 49:34Speaker 1: will see God, um.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I mean, it doesn't say, it doesn't use the term
- 49:40Speaker 1: eternal salvation, but it's talking about the future, it's talking
- 49:44Speaker 1: about a resurrected body. It's talking about the redeemer living
- 49:48Speaker 1: and standing on the earth in the last days. So I,
- 49:52Speaker 1: I'm sure there's probably something else, but um.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Ah, but Psalm 23, you know, of course if it's Job,
- 49:59Speaker 1: then Job precedes, uh, David, David wrote Psalm 23. Ah,
- 50:04Speaker 1: Job probably lived around the time of Abraham, which would
- 50:07Speaker 1: maybe be 1800 to 2000 BC, and David lived 1000 BC. So, yeah.
- 50:12Speaker 1: John, I hope that helps. Yeah, yeah, not sure.
- 50:17Speaker 1: John, thanks for uh sending in your question through the
- 50:19Speaker 1: pastor's perspective page at Kwave.com. I think Eric is calling
- 50:23Speaker 1: in with uh somewhat of a follow-up question
- 50:25Speaker 2: to what
- 50:26Speaker 1: we
- 50:26Speaker 2: were
- 50:26Speaker 1: discussing
- 50:26Speaker 2: earlier.
- 50:27Speaker 1: He's in San Bernardino. What did you want to know, Eric?
- 50:31Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, I got a comment and a question. I'm
- 50:33Speaker 2: gonna make it quick. Um, a lot of times when
- 50:36Speaker 2: we have doubts, I mean, because we're reading some amazing
- 50:38Speaker 2: things in scripture, and a lot of times when we
- 50:41Speaker 2: have doubts, it doesn't even have to be Satan, even
- 50:44Speaker 2: though Satan's the first one who said, did God really
- 50:46Speaker 2: say that. But secondly, though, um, a lot of times
- 50:49Speaker 2: just our own human, because we're still falling, we're still
- 50:52Speaker 2: susceptible to sin.
- 50:54Speaker 2: And we doubt. Sometimes we just doubt. Satan doesn't have
- 50:57Speaker 2: anything to do with it. We do a good enough
- 50:59Speaker 2: job on our own sometimes. But my question though, is, 00,
- 51:04Speaker 2: and then I was gonna say that, um, a lot
- 51:06Speaker 2: of times what has helped me is when I said, OK,
- 51:09Speaker 2: so let's, let's say, so can I honestly say now,
- 51:13Speaker 2: this scripture is not real. And I've actually tried to
- 51:16Speaker 2: do that. I said, no way did Jesus do that miracle.
- 51:18Speaker 2: And instantly, it's like the spirit said, why not? Why
- 51:21Speaker 2: would it not be possible for Jesus to do that?
- 51:25Speaker 2: I found myself in a real quarry and I realized, OK, it, it,
- 51:29Speaker 2: if it's possible, then it's real. And my question though, was,
- 51:33Speaker 2: what scripture, and just as we're talking, um, I actually
- 51:37Speaker 2: got the answer, but I want to see if there's
- 51:39Speaker 2: something else. My question is, what scripture could we use
- 51:43Speaker 2: when we have these doubts? And I instantly went to
- 51:45Speaker 2: all scripture is inspired with by God.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Uh, by the Holy Spirit, and, uh, so I just
- 51:52Speaker 2: wanna know if you guys know of any other scripture.
- 51:54Speaker 2: I just thought of that one when I asked the
- 51:56Speaker 2: question right now. So I just wanna know if you
- 51:59Speaker 2: guys have any thoughts or any other scripture that we
- 52:01Speaker 2: can rely on.
- 52:03Speaker 1: All right, Brian.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Yeah, um,
- 52:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and I just to say, I agree, I think with,
- 52:12Speaker 1: with your first statement that, um, you know, sometimes the
- 52:15Speaker 1: doubt is, it is just us, it is us doubting
- 52:19Speaker 1: and um.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Regarding that, I mean, you know, Paul in writing to
- 52:24Speaker 1: the church in Ephesus, he talks about the armor of God, um,
- 52:29Speaker 1: putting on the whole armor of God, put on the
- 52:31Speaker 1: belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation,
- 52:35Speaker 1: taking out the sword of the Spirit, which is the
- 52:37Speaker 1: word of God. Um, so I think, you know, those are,
- 52:42Speaker 1: you know, Paul's giving us their, uh, I think a
- 52:45Speaker 1: description of how we are to.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Apply God's word to the various struggles and temptations and,
- 52:54Speaker 1: you know, the battle that we have with the forces
- 52:57Speaker 1: of darkness that he mentions there, so, but the passage
- 53:01Speaker 1: from um 2 Timothy 3, you know, all scripture is
- 53:04Speaker 1: given by inspiration of God, is, it's a great text,
- 53:08Speaker 1: it's a vitally important text because it reminds us that, um,
- 53:13Speaker 1: You know, God's word is God's word, and it is
- 53:16Speaker 1: profitable for everything we need as God's people. But then
- 53:20Speaker 1: I think too, Jesus is another great example. Matthew chapter 4,
- 53:24Speaker 1: when you read through the temptation, Satan comes to Jesus,
- 53:27Speaker 1: he says, if you're the Son of God, turn these
- 53:28Speaker 1: stones into bread. Jesus says, it is written, man shall
- 53:32Speaker 1: not live by bread alone. If you're the Son of God,
- 53:35Speaker 1: cast yourself down from this, for it is written. It
- 53:37Speaker 1: is also written, Jesus said, you shall not tempt the
- 53:40Speaker 1: Lord your God.
- 53:41Speaker 1: And then, you know, the devil took him to a
- 53:45Speaker 1: high place, showed him all the kingdoms of the world
- 53:47Speaker 1: in their glory, and said, If you bow down and
- 53:49Speaker 1: worship me, all these things will be yours. Jesus said,
- 53:52Speaker 1: Get behind me, Satan. It is written, You shall worship
- 53:57Speaker 1: the Lord, your God and serve Him only. So the
- 54:00Speaker 1: point is, Jesus said every time it is written, so
- 54:04Speaker 1: he drew on scripture to defeat the efforts of the
- 54:09Speaker 1: enemy to trip him up.
- 54:10Speaker 1: That's like a master class in people who take scripture
- 54:13Speaker 1: out of context.
- 54:15Speaker 1: Because it's like, you know, Satan himself comes up with
- 54:20Speaker 1: a verse and Jesus says, yeah, but this. So yeah,
- 54:25Speaker 1: that's why the more we know our Bible, the better,
- 54:29Speaker 1: the better off we're gonna be, you know. This is true. Eric,
- 54:33Speaker 1: thanks for your phone call, man. We are out of
- 54:35Speaker 1: time on today's episode of Pastor's Perspective. Well, we do
- 54:38Speaker 1: have a few seconds left, but
- 54:40Speaker 1: Yeah, by the time we introduced the caller and they
- 54:43Speaker 1: ask their question, there'd probably be like 5 seconds for
- 54:46Speaker 1: Pastor Brian to give an answer. So, um,
- 54:48Speaker 1: I will give you instead a fast pass. If you're
- 54:51Speaker 1: on hold right now, here's your fast pass, you can
- 54:53Speaker 1: and if you're on hold and you weren't already on
- 54:55Speaker 1: today's show, here's a fast pass for you. You can
- 54:57Speaker 1: call us on Monday and ask your question, but uh
- 55:01Speaker 1: thanks so much for watching, thanks so much for listening.
- 55:03Speaker 1: We'll see you at church on Sunday and then we'll
- 55:05Speaker 1: be back here on Pastor's perspective on Monday. Pastor Brian
- 55:09Speaker 1: will be back on the show on Tuesday, and Ed
- 55:12Speaker 1: Stetzer has confirmed via text.
- 55:14Speaker 1: He will be here on Wednesday. My biggest question for
- 55:19Speaker 1: Ed is, does he still remember the phone number, because
- 55:22Speaker 1: it's been, I don't know, 4 or 5 months. It's
- 55:24Speaker 1: been a long time. I wonder if he still says
- 55:27Speaker 1: it in his sleep or something. I don't know. Yeah, yeah,
- 55:30Speaker 1: take it down off the wall and make him, you know,
- 55:32Speaker 1: he's got to do it by memory. None of this,
- 55:33Speaker 1: none of this looking at it. That's right. That's right.
- 55:37Speaker 1: All right, God bless you guys. Talk to you next
- 55:38Speaker 1: time here on Pastor's perspective.
