- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter seventeen. Anger. Let a man leave anger, Let him
- 0:08Speaker 1: forsake pride. Let him overcome all bondage. No sufferings befall
- 0:14Speaker 1: the man who is not attached to name and form,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and who calls nothing his own. He who holds back
- 0:24Speaker 1: rising anger like a rolling chariot. Here I call a
- 0:28Speaker 1: real driver. Other people are but holding the reins. Let
- 0:36Speaker 1: a man overcome anger by love, Let him overcome evil
- 0:41Speaker 1: by good. Let him overcome the greedy by liberality, the
- 0:46Speaker 1: liar by truth, speak the truth. Do not yield to anger.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Give if thou art asked for little, by these three steps,
- 0:59Speaker 1: the wilt go near the gods. The sages, who injure nobody,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and who always control their body, They will go to
- 1:11Speaker 1: the unchangeable place nirvana, where if they have gone, they
- 1:18Speaker 1: will suffer no more. Those who are ever watchful, who
- 1:24Speaker 1: study day and night, and who strive after nirvana, their
- 1:30Speaker 1: passions will come to an end. This is an old
- 1:35Speaker 1: saying o'atulah. This is not only of to day. They
- 1:42Speaker 1: blame him who sits silent. They blame him who speaks much.
- 1:48Speaker 1: They also blame him who says little. There is no
- 1:52Speaker 1: one on earth who is not blamed. There never was,
- 1:58Speaker 1: there never will be, Nor is there now a man
- 2:03Speaker 1: who is always blamed, or a man who is always praised.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But he whom those who discriminate praise continually day after day,
- 2:15Speaker 1: as without blemish, wise, rich in knowledge and virtue, Who
- 2:22Speaker 1: would dare to blame him like a coin made of
- 2:26Speaker 1: gold from the Gombo river. Even the gods praise him.
- 2:32Speaker 1: He is praised even by Bramin. Beware of bodily anger,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and control thy body. Leave the sins of the body,
- 2:44Speaker 1: and with thy body practice virtue. Beware of the anger
- 2:49Speaker 1: of the tongue, and control thy tongue. Leave the sins
- 2:54Speaker 1: of the tongue, and practice virtue with thy tongue. Beware
- 3:01Speaker 1: of the anger of the mind, and control thy mind.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Leave the sins of the mind, and practice virtue with
- 3:10Speaker 1: thy mind. The wise who control their body, who control
- 3:17Speaker 1: their tongue. The wise who control their mind, are indeed
- 3:22Speaker 1: well controlled. End of Chapter seventeen.
